How do you feel about Nejihina? I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but they always made so much sense to me... Neji had a crush on her when they were kids, and after everything happened, she seemed to be the only person he really cared about. I always felt like Naruto wasn't really interested in her, but Neji was. Also, a marriage between them two could have united the branches and solved so many problems! what are your thoughts on them? I'd love to read a nejihina fic from you :)
I love NejiHina and I ship it for the same reasons you already mentioned! Their fight in part 1 was one of the standout moments of the manga for me, and I thought they had some great development. Would have loved to see some arranged marriage for them in canon, alas.

The glitter of the day had faded away.
In the distance, the loud, rattling bugle calls of the estate owned red-crowned cranes heralded the events of the coming hours. The Hyuuga bred several majestic bird species, and these cranes symbolised fidelity, good luck, long life and love.
All things a wedding ceremony needed to bring fortune to the impending marriage.
Neji Hyuuga appreciated the symbolism, even if his soon-to-be bride didn't. For as much as she'd agreed to this match, been patient with the preparations, and participated in the prenuptial talks, Hinata Hyuuga did not want to marry her cousin.
Or rather, Neji was aware that another held her heart.
Naruto Uzumaki.
Staring out the open windows of his room, Neji watched the servants bustling about with the outdoor seating arrangements for the ceremony. It was tradition for tables to be sat at for the ceremony duration instead of lines of connected seats that weddings outside the Hyuuga clan used.
The after celebrations, in stark contrast to the wedding reception of outsiders, was supposed to be a solemn affair. A civil celebration that emphasised the parting of ways from one's birth family as a sign of loss. But that was for when it was a purely Hyuuga affair. Both Neji and Hinata had invited outsiders. For the first time in the clan's history, it will host a wedding with outside influence. The first of many changes they were planning on, given their respective appointments as co-heirs of the Hyuuga. And none if which the stuffy elders were going to see coming.
Besides, Neji preferred the way civilians married and celebrated. The way his teammates valued love and honour.
Tenten and Lee's wedding had been indoors, with a single Shinto priest and numerous rows of guests. The reception had been loud but fun, even for him. It was very romantic too.
And that had been before the very public row Hinata's former teammates had instigated with Team Kakashi. Shino and Kiba had felt the weight of Hinata's humiliation from Naruto's rejection so strongly. Luckily, Kakashi sensei had prevented his team from sending Hinata's friends to the hospital. He was the only true ninja on that team, in Neji’s perspective.
His eyes scanned the crowds of tables as the early arrivals began ambling in. There was one section that would remain empty on this day and Neji was glad for it. It would not do to have that team at their nuptials. Their rejection of Hinata's invitation had been the correct decision.
But that didn't make it easy. On the preparations for an empty table when so many were already attending. On the family.
On Hinata.
And if he was perfectly honest, on himself. He'd respected them before. Not so much now. He sighed and turned away. He was dressed in his formal kimono and ready, just counting down the minutes until he stood next to Hinata. She deserved to have a husband devoted to her and that was exactly what he planned on doing.
This may have been arranged but they'd both agreed. The political manoeuvring aside, they worked well together. He hoped that would extend to all the facets of a marriage and companionship.
The day was fading to a burnt orange, the floral arrangements almost translucent behind the dying sun's rays. Neji was drawn out of his thoughts at the loud knock.
His door was open.
Neji allowed a smile for his comrade.
All smiles and exuberance, Rock Lee bounced into his room, proclaiming his joy and hoping for a bright, wonderful youthfulness this day.
But Neji wasn't fooled. As Lee spouted on and on, there was something missing from his joy. He was not stupid. He'd read his friend well and knew there was more to today than Neji would admit.
And likely came to a morose conclusion.
Lee knew Neji’s romantic history enough to understand how much of a shock this engagement had been. But he didn't know that Neji’s heart had skipped a beat at the thought of being with Hinata.
Thankfully, Tenten arrived then, also knocking before inviting herself in. Lee paused in his soliloquy about his own duties as best man to embrace his wife.
Tenten humoured him for a moment, resting her chin on Lee's shoulder to look over at Neji. She smiled as she told him that Hiashi was waiting for him.
The Hyuuga nodded gratefully. His uncle had wanted to talk before the nuptials, one last time as his soon-to-be father-in-law. Lee gave him the thumbs up and allowed Tenten to steer him out.
Whose idea had it been for Lee to be my best man?
Neji smiled wistfully and then took one last look at the gathering guests in the courtyard before following his teammates out.
But instead of turning left, towards the wedding area, Neji took the right path, towards his uncle's office. There was one last thing he needed to talk to him about.
Fireflies danced around them as Neji turned to watch his bride walk towards him. Lighting up the new night. Illuminating the guests. And casting a soft light on her face.
Her veil was transparent enough to not hide Hinata's face from his perusal and there was no blush prettying her pale skin. She walked almost stiffly while clearly trying not to. She'd accepted her duty, but closed her heart.
He hoped to open it once more.
Neji caught her eyes in his and her breath hitched. From fear or surprise he didn't know, but he hoped it was something more like anticipation. Neji held out his hand to Hinata, relieved as she took it without hesitation. Of course, there wasn't a spiteful bone in her body so she accepted him graciously with a smile that didn't reach her lavender eyes.
Neji squeezed her fingers gently in companionship. He hoped it would help her feel more at ease. Nearby, Lee was bouncing on his feet ever so slightly and grinning at them knowingly.
Neji and Hinata both ignored him.
The elder standing in to marry them began to recite the ritual as Neji stared at Hinata. He had always thought her pretty, even though grudgingly so in the days he'd hated her. Now, she stood tall and beautiful. A dark beauty bathed in the white light of her soul and strength. He couldn't be more happy.
But Neji kept his feelings off his face as they went through the motions. Dipping their heads in prayer to Kami. Sipping from the sake. Reciting the traditional vows and not ones they might have written themselves if this had not been arranged. Verbally acknowledging their marital promises.
And closing the gap between them to offer a chaste kiss each other, sealing the ceremony.
Neji's teammates and Hinata's friends were loud in the aftermath of that kiss, their voices startling the Hyuuga gathered, annoying the elderly and making the younger ones giggle behind their hands.
He expected no less.
Gathering Hinata's hand in his, Neji led her back down the path she'd taken through their guests. As per tradtion for their clan, the newlyweds paused at every table to receive thanks and congratulations from each group of guests. Some gifts. Some kind words. All in honour and reverence for their impending years together.
And several gifts from their respective teammates that made Hinata blush and Neji wonder in anticipation for their consummation.
Nothing said or done during these moments was outside of Neji’s predictios. Including the stumble in Hinata's gait as they swiftly bypassed the lone, empty table of absentee guests.
Neji did not let her dwell and instead turned them about to face the crowd. They bowed and the clapping began. Another tradition he'd been coerced into following was leaving the celebrations to those gathered. The reception went ahead without them as Neji led his new bride to the new wing of the Hyuuga compound that had been renovated especially for them and their new life together. And the family they were expected to create.
To their new home.
Everything was quiet, barring the pounding of his heart. You could have heard a pin drop. The air was so still. The expectation so heavy.
Windows were open. The night air flooded the bedroom. The sounds of conservative Hyuuga partying in the distance intermingled with the exuberant antics of invited outsiders. Everything was a stark reminder of what they were supposed to be doing right now.
Of what they'd agreed upon when the elders had been split down the middle on deciding who would be the next clan leader. In the aftermath of Naruto's rejection, Hinata seemed to have been spurred on, her desire for the leadership role driving her decision to marry her cousin, with nothing else left in her heart to be ambitious for.
This was their way of making that dream reality and appeasing the elders.
I will deal with them later.
For now, his ambition was to make her happy.
Neji swallowed heavily, a shaking hand began to slowly remove his obi belt. Hinata inhaled sharply, her eyes not missing the way he was watching her like one would a skittish prey.
Half-turned away from him, she hung her head low, body trembling slightly. They both knew she'd been saving herself for another. Hinata had never even kissed someone. He wondered how much of his own experience she had presumed.
He continued to disrobe uncertainly.
As Neji began to ponder how much of his clothing he would have to remove before Hinata made her mind up about joining him, she finally turned to face him.
A renewed look of confidence stole over her features and Neji paused as she held her head high, now staring him down. He recognised that look. The determination whenever someone doubted her so thoroughly that she felt the need to prove herself. To push herself when nobody else believed in her.
I believe in you.
She was beautiful.
Neji swallowed heavily as his new wife began removing the layers of her wedding kimono. As each part of the shiromuku fell to the floor, his jaw dropped. Mouth dry, he couldn't think of anything as her skin was slowly revealed to him.
Beneath her silk jyuban undergarment, Hinata wore thin slips that barely covered her. Neji felt himself stiffen. The twitching of his cock. He hadn't expected such a visceral response from his body.
Hinata cleared her throat and Neji mentally berated himself for ogling her. He hurriedly returned to undressing himself. His own silk undergarments slid to the floor and he resisted the urge to cup himself, to hide out of embarrassment.
For her part, Hinata was blushing like a naive genin. But she didn't avert her eyes. Even as his cock visibly jumped under her gaze.
It was his turn to clear his throat.
Neji held out his hand to an equally naked Hinata, keeping his eyes on hers despite the temptation to soak her in. Every inch of her skin was silk and he was going to enjoy exploring it thoroughly.
Hinata took a fortifying breath and accepted his hand, entwining their fingers. The reality of what they were about to do hit them both as they climbed onto ther new marriage bed, laying on their sides, facing each other.
Nervous touches inspired emboldened kisses as Neji pressed against Hinata. Wrapping his arm around her he eagerly pushed his chest into hers, revelling in the feel of her volumptuous breasts against his skin. Hips gyrating with hers, Neji pulled Hinata's leg over his hips, deepening their kiss and tucking his knee under her bum to give her more support.
Hinata moaned into his mouth and Neji groaned. Later, he would liken his own sounds to the grunts of cavemen, embarrassingly. For now he was content to create friction between his ever hardening cock and the slickness of her pussy. He reached down to stroke her clitoris, rolling the small nub between his fingers as she came undone so easily. For him.
Hinata broke the kiss, panting. Chanting his name. It was so fucking sexy, his name on her hot lips. His own release would come too soon if they didn't slow down, however.
Neji stilled his hips and pulled her in for another kiss. Deeper. Longer. Sensual. He explored her mouth like a man dying of thirst.
He was no longer the boy who had hated her. Almost killed her. Treated her like she was a spoiled little princess and the source of all his trauma.
He was the man now stroking his own cock to the sounds she was making. The man who admired her. Respected her. And was looking forward to spending the rest of his life with her.
He was ready.
Neji slipped his fingers into her cunt, rubbing the palm of his hand against her clit. She moaned and thrust her pussy against him. Even as she buried her face into his chest. Her body heating. Her skin flushed with both arousal and embarrassment.
She was ready.
Neji pulled away and lifted her head, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear as they stared into each other's eyes. He kissed her chastely as he angled his hips, positioning his dripping cock at her entrance. Knee between her leg, he grasped her butt with one hand as he parted her folds gently.
He hesitated.
Hinata blinked owlishly at him, swallowing heavily. Her nerves had returned. Neji kissed her, hoping to settle her down. She needed to be open and relaxed to take him in. This was her first time. He had to remind himself of that.
The distant music thrummed through him. The beats of an unknown instrument felt like the perfect musical overture as he started pushing his way into her.
He murmured against her lips, telling her how good she was. How amazing she felt. Coaxing her to relax. To take him in. And when he was fully seated inside of her, they both let out deep sighs of pleasure.
Neji began to move immediately. She wasn't having any struggles taking him so there was no need to drag that part out. He moaned, eyes closed, heart racing. She was so perfect. Felt so good clamping down on his cock. The friction was hot and fast.
The music was upbeat. A tempo on par with his thrusts. His muscles screamed as he kept her body on it's side even under the force of his relentless thrusts. He fucked her harder than he'd planned. All his thoughts of making love out the window. He just knew what his body wanted. What they both craved.
He inhaled deeply, grunting out the breath.
When he felt his end coming, he forced his body to slow. The effort almost made him come undone. He rolled them to pull Hinata onto his lap. Trembling, she took the cue and lifted herself up. Large breasts in his face had just been a daydream before now.
Neji gripped them as she cautiously rode him, rolling the pads of his fingers over her nipples. If she hadn't been hard before, she was now. She unconsciously thrust her breasts into his mouth as she gyrated against his hips.
He took control of her movements, gripping her hips and thrusting up to match her tempo. They cried out to each other. Cuss words were exchanged. Prayers to Kami. Adulations of pleasure. And the moment that coil of tension unwound, Neji released himself. Spilled into her with a final cry of pleasure. Came undone under the sensation of her pussy clenching at his cock one last time. She collapsed on top of him and they both immediately knew.
This was the beginning of something so much greater than their ambitions. A future of love.

Day 2 - Hyuuga Politics
1311 words | NejiHina | Canon Divergence | Read on AO3
When he stood next to her during the brief moments of wait until the council didn’t call for her, each facing the contrary direction, her to the closed doors, him to the courtyard, he never wanted more to break protocol, to touch her, hold her hand, tell her that he would be beside her no matter what happened. But he didn’t. He knew what she needed the most was the protocol, the tradition.
So, when the door opened, his whole arm itched, the back of his hand almost touching hers, but he held himself in place, and when the doors closed he felt like they swallowed her and the hours he stood there, waiting, guarding, was the most tortuous of his life.
She didn’t have the best of the expressions when she left the room, and never he hated more the fringes hiding her forehead. They didn’t talk, she wasn’t allowed to talk to him while he was in council guarding duty, but he received the small scroll of paper she slipped into his hand before leaving.
He opened the scroll first thing after been dismissed that evening, it said, “Meet me in Hikari’s garden”.
Hikari was Hinata’s mother, the person from which she had inherited her indigo hair and her love for flowers, the person who didn’t love her enough to stay. She loved Hizashi Hyuuga, but it was arranged for her to marry his older brother, and she tried, she really wanted to love her husband, but after Hizashi died she started withering like the flowers of her abandoned garden, and, after boring Hiashi a second daughter, she decided enough was enough. It was a mystery if Hiashi ever loved his wife, but he named her favourite garden after her and Hinata made sure it never become unattended again.
There she was, under the stars and among the white tulips.
“What happened?” he was direct, unable to keep his anxiety anymore.
“I’m fine” she answered the question he didn’t dare to voice, “they didn’t seal me.”
Heavens, he wanted to hold her.
“But they said they will seal Hanabi, nii-san, I can’t let this happen, I just can’t.”
He walked a little closer to her, almost invading her personal space.
“We won’t. There will be a way, what did Hiashi-sama said?”
“Oh, he’s not happy. He didn’t like that Hanabi chose to step down, and he’s not exactly jumping with happiness with the prospects of having me as his heiress again.”
He noticed the bitterness in her voice.
“Nevertheless, I do not believe he will let her to be sealed without a fight.”
“That is truth.”
She sighed, then smiled, looking to him through her dark eyelashes.
“It’s so weird, you didn’t say anything I didn’t already know, but I really feel calmer after talking to you.”
He felt warmth spreading over his chest but said nothing.
The ceremony of her reinstating as the heiress and Hiashi’s successor was a small and quick for such an important affair. He was there too, at the door, was a bunke member was allowed to be, guarding and disguising his nervousness.
And when she got out of the room, she spared him a firm smile.
No surprise for Neji, Hanabi wasn’t sealed. And she even got special permission to go on missions and join a team. Both conquests from Hinata’s battles as the new addition to the council, even though they still firmly believed that Hinata’s position was just temporary and Hanabi would usurp her eventually, they would all die before letting Hinata get anything easily.
But if something really astonished Neji, was how Hiashi’s position changed, from the one whom deposed Hinata, now he was her stronger asset. Hinata told Neji that things changed after the clan leader had a heated conversation with both of his daughters. Hanabi was firm on her resolve, she didn’t want to be the next clan leader, it was not her position to take and it was something that was getting in between her and her dreams. In other hand, all Hinata wanted was to change the clan, to make it fair for everyone, and she needed to be the leader do to so.
Neji already knew Hinata’s plans, most of them featured him as her support, for changing the clan was his dream too.
Hiashi was not close to step down, but every year it was becoming clear and clearer that Hinata wasn’t either. And small changes was being made, first her sister, than she started pressing for the children to be sealed when they get older, then for the seal activation to be declared forbidden. Every victory coming from tenacious battle, they said she was like water, insistent, perseverant.
He would come to her room every night and they could discuss their next steps, because they were together in that, even if no one saw his importance, for he placed himself in the shadows believing that from afar was the best place to protect her and the future they so yearned for. They didn’t only talked about work, or the plans of changing the clan, they talked about everything and nothing, and as tiredness would take the toll of them, the conversation would take strange paths to gibberish and silliness. It was in those moments that Hinata was reminded of how young they were and how human Neji could be when tired, she would always try to bring those moments up when he was most like himself and he would deny everything. After all, as she spent those moments finding out things about him, he was using nonsense to hide how the difficult issue in his mind: how could he say what he needed desperately to say? He feared that by doing so he would ruin their relationship or put her in danger, but every day is was harder and harder to keep it disclosed. They went through so much together, side by side, they shared everything, he was even the one whom the shoulder she cried when her childhood love appeared engaged to his best friend, she was the first he saw when he came from the most traumatizing mission he even went. He couldn’t ruin that for selfish reasons.
But, the council started regarding Hinata as dangerous to the maintain of the clan’s old ways and, one night, there was an assassination attempt that could have been successful if Neji wasn’t there.
And, instead of investigating whom tried to kill the clan’s heiress, the council was more preoccupied about Hinata’s virtue as a unmarried young woman that received a man in her bedchamber at late hours.
Hinata was livid, Hiashi almost lost his control and physically assaulted the councilman that brought the issue, Neji felt like reviving his childhood dreams of mass assassination. But, in the end, they didn’t find an entire satisfactory way around the issue, Hinata, like her mother, would have to marry for the clan’s will.
But as she reminded the whole council the next day, she was not her mother, and she would chose whom she was marrying.
“Do you really want to do this?”
“I should be asking this myself. I’ll have to marry if I want to be clan leader, you…” she sighed “you don’t owe me anything.”
So, he finally gave in to the itch to touch her, reaching for her hand. Hinata looked up, eyes wide in surprise.
“But I owe you so much.”
“Neji… Don’t sacrifice yourself for me.”
“I have been keeping this secret for so long, Hinata-sama, marrying you wouldn’t be a sacrifice at all.”
She swallowed.
“Are you sure?” she asked with a weak voice.
He took her hand to his lips, eyes fixed in her.
“Yes.”
After that day, he didn’t need to be in the shadows anymore, but by her side and under the warmth of her sun.
