the music booms over the speakers inside the house next door, just like it always does on the weekends (and occasionally on thursdays too). it always drives you up a wall, but tonight it’s particularly bad.

you sit up slightly in bed, absentmindedly wondering who the fuck is on aux. you’re not sure why the thought crosses your mind, but you know it’s not chris, because these picks are horrendous.

it’s already past two in the morning, not to mention it’s the middle of the week. you haven’t been able to get a wink of rest, even with your headphones blaring at full volume. usually they do the trick, but tonight’s party is relentless, demanding to be heard.

wine wednesday, you think to yourself sourly.

neither of your roommates are home; they’re both off with their significant others, somewhere that’s not here, listening to fuckface and his friends get drunk.

you’re usually pretty passive about the noise, because they provide free alcohol for you guys when you show up and typically give you notice that they’re throwing something.

but tonight it’s just too fucking much. you’re tired, and groggy, and very much so still in your silky pajama bottoms and oversized t-shirt, but you don’t give a shit.

you jam your feet into some sneakers and grab a jacket, clutching it close to your chest as you head down the stairs to the main level of your own house.

you pass the dark living room, shadows leering in the corners as you’re guided only by the light coming from the street lamps outside.

you step onto the porch and the cold smacks you in the face, breath fogging up the air. it’s the middle of january in boston, and the expanse of dead grass between your houses crunches under your feet as you tread toward the front door.

the rest of the street is quiet, aside from the party. but they’re all senior hockey players, and it’s the beginning of their last semester, so what else can you expect?

besides maybe some basic human decency every once in a while. in fact, you’re so frustrated that you’re going in without backup, and without a real plan of any kind.

for some reason, once you get up the three steps to their door, you pause to knock. as if anyone would hear you over the music, or care enough to open the door for someone who’s fucking knocking.

so you twist the handle next, and it’s unlocked. of course.

it opens to a hazey front hallway that you recognize, stairs to the left hand side, blocked off by a young-looking guy you assume is probably a freshman on duty.

the front area is full of people, pressed against the walls, chatting over the music. well, more like yelling over it.

you can smell weed, which confuses you slightly. you know none of them smoke, not during the season at least. they usually don’t let anyone do it inside the house, so it must be an allowance for a girl.

you’re already getting strange looks as you step inside, which is fair. your shorts are hidden by the length of your shirt and jacket, so you’re just legs and shoes. you’ve got no makeup on, and you didn’t check your hair before you came.

but you swallow the lump in your throat, because it doesn’t matter right now anyways.

you shift your way through the crowd, gaze skipping over the people as you finally reach the dark living room. multi-colored strobes flash, lighting up the hoards of tipsy college kids dancing on the soaked wooden floor. furniture is pushed aside to make room, though the championship banner from last year still hangs on the wall.

his eyes find you before yours find him.

he stares at you across the tops of people's heads, standing by one of the couches that’s shoved against the wall. one of his roommates, connor, is leaned back on the cushions, watching the two girls they were talking to pass a joint back and forth.

but he’s no longer focused on anyone else, because he’s spotted you across the room, and he thinks this is the most disheveled he’s ever seen you. your angry eyes lock in on him seconds later, and they narrow instantly.

you beeline toward him, right through a group of people that are half-dancing along to the terrible playlist.

he lifts his eyebrows at your attitude, but not in fear. he’s actually a little impressed. his friends are watching you warily, just as confused as everyone else who saw you walk in.

he can’t help but stare at your legs as you finally reach him, admiring how cute you look in your pajamas, pale pink bottoms peeking out underneath your shirt with every step. he briefly wonders if you’re even wearing a bra.

then you open your mouth, and the fantasy is over.

“what time is it, chris?” you snap at him, one hand balled into a fist, the other clutching your phone.

“i don’t know, but i have a feeling you’re going to tell me.” he takes a sip of his drink to try and hide his grin.

it takes a lot of self control to keep yourself from slapping it out of his fucking hand, just because of how smug he looks. you hold up the screen to his face.

two twenty-two in the morning. chris almost laughs.

“the answer is way too fucking late to be having a party on a wednesday.” you reply, bringing the device back down to rest by your thigh.

“why didn’t you come? i missed you.” he pouts.

you glance over at the people on the couch, at the girls who are still making eyes at you as they converse with connor. he’s giving you a weird look too, as if no one could possibly understand why you’re here like this.

“yeah, sure you did,” you turn back to him, “now shut this shit down before i call the cops.”

chris puts his hands up in surrender, though he knows this is an empty threat just as much as you do.

“wow, somebody’s grumpy.”

you roll your eyes, crossing your arms over your chest self-consciously. “i’m serious. tell the puck bunnies to go home for the night or i’ll do it myself.”

he takes a tiny step closer, just a few inches, and yet it still seems suffocating. he looks too good, clad in a simple black tee and jeans, and he’s studying your face with the fire of a thousand suns.

“you don’t have to be jealous because other girls are here. you know you’re my number one.” chris replies easily.

even though his tone remains light, his expression is serious now. it enrages you more, that he thinks he has so much control over you.

“as if i give a fuck. i just want to sleep, so the choice is yours. police,” you wave the hand that holds your phone slightly, “or call it off.”

chris takes another sip of his drink, tipping it back so he can finish the rest of it in one foul swoop. then he nods his head, like he’s admitting defeat.

“fine. i’ll send everyone home.”

you can feel the relief creeping over you, knowing that you don’t have to actually get law enforcement involved. “thank yo—”

“on one condition.” he interrupts, and you furrow your brows.

“no conditions, chris. we’re not bartering right now.”

“come to the game on friday and we can hang out after for a bit. i’ll even give you a practice jersey to wear.” he offers, and the trademark smirk has reappeared on his face.

lights dance across his features, morphing his expression every few seconds. you just stare, because for once, you’re actually not sure what game he’s playing.

“what, can’t get a date without having to resort to blackmail?” you taunt, and he laughs.

“please, i don’t date. and i’d hardly consider this blackmail. just think of it as getting to know your friendly neighbor on a more personal level.”

there’s a humorous glint in his eye, one that’s daring you to say yes. what’s there to be afraid of? all you have to do is watch hockey, eat some popcorn from the concession stand, and deal with his attitude for an hour afterwards.

you’re still not sure what chris is getting out of this, or why he’s insisting that you need to be there, but at this point you don’t care. all you can think about is salvaging the rest of your sleep.

“alright, fine. now you have five minutes to get everyone out, and i better not hear any more shitty remixes for the rest of the week.” you point an accusatory finger at him and he shrugs, though he’s clearly content that you caved in.

“your wish is my command, princess.”

you turn on your heel to head back outside, retracing your steps from earlier as you slip through the mob. you half expect chris to follow, just because he’s annoying, but he doesn’t.

the overhead lights are coming back on now, and you can hear deep voices shouting, combined with collective groans from the crowd as they all realize they’re being kicked out.

luckily you make it out the front door first, and you jog back up the steps to your own place to get out of the cold.

you’ve only been inside for seconds when your phone buzzes in your hand.

MY HEADCANONS TICCI TOBY 🪓

Kid Toby Rogers 🧇

• Toby was a very quiet child, with very few or no friends. His best friend was Lyra. The girl was the one who kept him company the most, by far the only one. Confiante worked a lot and was hardly ever at home, when he was he tried to give the boy his attention.

• Lyra was the one who took care of him the most. When he was little, he had no idea of pain when he fell or noticed the bruises. At school, the children didn't understand why he kept squirming in his chair. In fact, he never knew how to deal with his tics. Tourett's was actually one of the disorders that caused Toby to suffer the most bullying. Unfortunately, he didn't know how to proofread.

• Toby once got a teddy bear that he wouldn't let go of. It was on his 4th birthday and he got attached to the teddy bear. Unfortunately, it burned in the fire, but he keeps some of the remains of it with him.

• His parents started having problems when he was 10 or 11 years old, it really affected his family a lot, he always blamed his father for abusing alcohol (We all hate that man)

Teen Toby Rogers🧤

• Toby grew up in a horrible environment, this didn't really shape his personality but it shaped his point of view about his parents, when he helped Lyra the girl got angry because he got hurt but he didn't feel it and didn't care. She always took care of him, he was always grateful for her.

• Toby didn't have any friends, but he can't deny that few people were kind to him. He studied at home when he was little. He only attended school to complete the second year, then he continued studying at home. Lyra helped him and later showed him her ideas. I think she wanted to study fashion, and she was very good at what she did.

• Toby has learned to deal with his tics, and his disorders in general. He understands that no one would ever be in his shoes, so he stopped paying attention to the comments, he never let anyone talk about Lyra or his mother... She may have been a little mean, but she helped him, enough for him to understand why she was late getting home.

• Toby liked to spend his time listening to music, and doodling on random sheets of paper. He never minded being alone, he actually preferred it. Unfortunately, the Slender figure in his window started paying attention to him, which changed his path.

• Toby killed his father 2 days after his sister's death. He was in shock, angry, and couldn't help but feel more hatred for his father. The sad thing was having to leave his mother with no one to live with. His daughter died, her husband was murdered, and his body was burned along with the house. His only son disappeared and never visited her (at least she never saw him).

ADULT TOBY ROGERS 🪓

• He actually became a wanted killer, but that never stopped him from being a "normal adult"; he did his "missions" mostly at night, leaving the day to be more free.

• Toby wasn't getting into relationships, but he has good friends. I can say that Jack and Nina are his best friends now. But there's always room for Lyra, he still hallucinates about her sometimes.

• Toby Smokes not at Masky's level but Smokes enough, the big weed user. Getting high alone for him is therapy not to mention that no one says anything, his clothes smell of smoke and weed

• Toby doesn't shave his beard, it's long and gives him a certain charm. Nina says she likes his beard but hates his mustache. Jack says that Toby looks good either way, he let his hair grow and got more sun on his skin, making it more tanned.

• Toby lives in a small cabin, he and Jack share the house, they get along well even though Toby is disorganized. Jack understands since the refrigerator has food and human organs, they both do their part and that's it. Toby has a good relationship with everyone: Nina, Tim, Hoodie, Jeff. Maybe he's not 100% with Jeff but he puts up with him. He loves talking to Sally even though she's a Poltergeist. He likes to see her floating around.

To my vtuber moots: The reason you haven't seen me around on twitter, and why my account is changing (I'll still be streaming!)

I started my hiatus when work was putting so many hours on my schedule I couldn't stream at all. It made my spinal issues flare up so bad that I started needing a cane to stand after a while. Following rude comments from my boss about my disability being weight related, I quit my job and decided to continue to take time off to recover. Then the identity crisis started.. I got heavily into derealization to escape my spinal pain and grief over being unemployed. I would spend hours laying in bed, looking at images and listening to music that triggered my dissociation and derealization as well as smoking a metric ton of weed to speed up the process. I enjoyed the light floaty feeling I got from this escape, and it kept me from thinking about the issues I was really facing. One of them being my sense of self. I got a little silly and started fancying myself a clown, and so I made my clownsona and started to prepare to come back to streaming, taking a break from my escapism, which would cause my crisis to return again. I backpaddled on being a clowntuber, realizing it wasn't the answer to my issue, and truthfully, my issue was with my identity pertaining to gender. I came out as trans, and I thought things would get better, but I wasn't finished yet. I made yet ANOTHER Vtuber persona, now trying to fit with my identity, but I scrapped that too, feeling lost again. I just want to come back to streaming, but even though I know my gender now, I still don't know myself That's until I got back into Durarara This fandom has been one of the best things to ever happen to me. I used to roll my eyes when people said vtubers aren't a community, but that was until I saw what community REALLY looked like. On the first day of class, Professor Hamlin posed a thorny question: What is love, if such a thing exists at all? Our class dug into the weeds, debating concepts of "love at first sight" and "love is blind," contemplating matters of passion and desire, empathy and respect. We all professed to believe in love, and our definitions of love gravitated toward an idealistic notion of True Romance: one in which partners incline to each other principally for personality and not for appearance, in which passion persists into old age (or the appetite for sex somehow diminishes with time), and in which both partners work earnestly and selflessly to maintain the relationship. It's a wonderful notion, True Romance, but I question whether it's a practical definition of love. Is love not extremely messy? Is the world not saturated with popular music whose lyrics depict toxic love and disgruntled, tortured, confused lovers? Our class did, in fact, acknowledge certain complications: we agreed that one can love terrible people and that sometimes love may go unrequited. And yet we—not just our class but the world at large—seek to divorce love from its juvenile cousins of infatuation and desire. Love is different from merely "liking" another, we reason: Love is mature, cultivated over time, predicated on mutual respect and consent. It's selfless. In Book I of Metamorphoses, Ovid presents a vision of love that is not only selfish, but violent and cruel and carnal. "but I am stalking you because of love!" Apollo declares (1.701), in rabid pursuit of Daphne, as she runs for dear life. Jupiter butchers the good name of love even further: after raping Io, he transforms her into a cow to conceal her from Juno. When she sees through the disguise, however, and demands that Jove gift her the heifer, his love is no match for self-preservation: "Love surely would have triumphed over shame, / except that to deny so slight a gift / to one who was his wife and sister both / would make it seem that this was no mere cow!" (1.861-864). Juno then takes Io captive, placing her under the inescapable watch of Argus, the hundred-eyed giant, while Jove gets off scot-free—how very caring and romantic of him!

These twisted loves take us to interesting conclusions: After Daphne transforms into a tree, Apollo remains committed. "Although you cannot be my bride, . . . / you will assuredly be my own tree" (1.769-770). And when Syrinx transforms into a musical instrument to escape Pan's pursuit, he decides to treasure her anyhow: "At least I can have that much" (1.981-982). Jove, disturbed by Io's suffering (which is ironic, considering that he is the one responsible for it), comes to her rescue, pleading with Juno to restore her from her bovine captivity.

And with her [Callisto's] groans and tears and mournful mooing, entreated Jove, it seemed, to put an end to her great suffering. Jove threw his arms around the neck of Juno in embrace, imploring her to end this punishment. (1.1012-1016)

Notably, Jove only forfeits his claim on Io and acquiesces to Juno after losing all power in the situation. Despite his selfishness, however, Jove goes to desperate lengths to restore Io, which, for better or worse, suggests something akin to love.

Far from mere physical desire, Ovid's depictions of love in Book 1 are both unconditional and "blind"; if anything, the women's transformations into plants and animals and objects—literal dehumanization—only fuel the flames of passion. In other words, their love only grows stronger after the women lose their human bodies and, thus, their sexuality. Do their passions stem from genuine concern for the women's welfare? Or are they grieving over the loss of sexuality? It's unclear.

In the Metamorphoses, then, love is a force of volatile, unquantifiable emotion—and its effects can be terrible and terrifying. Under the guise of love, abusers use physical force to pull the object of their affection into orbit, as did Jupiter with Io. Such twisted loves are not always predicated on a carnal desire for human flesh; Apollo and Pan only become more possessive when their loved ones transform into non-human bodies. We might argue these were not examples of "true love"—but then, what is?

One of Television’s Greatest, Succession. No spoilers ahead!

I’ve never been one to dive into TV shows as much as some of my friends and viewers do. Recently, though, I’ve made it a goal to watch more TV to catch more references, recognize more names, explore new soundtracks, and understand the hype around certain shows. One of those shows is Succession, and I can confidently say it’s one of the greatest I’ve seen—and one of the best in recent years. 

Now, to be fair, I haven’t watched The Sopranos (yet), and I gave up on Game of Thrones. I do know the majority were unhappy with how Game of Thrones ended. Shows like The Walking Dead and Grey’s Anatomy dragged on far longer than they needed to. Succession, however, did what many shows fail to do… it ended at the right time. Over just three well-crafted and beautiful seasons, we’re immersed in the Roy family’s dynamics, their past, their present, and the urgency of their future. Through side plots, key characters, complex relationships, and intense business meetings, we get an inside look at how a company—and the people running it—operates. We see how deeply human and cutthroat these individuals are. I think that this element reminds us how both can exist. The show makes us feel like we’re right there in the boardroom, almost making us sympathize with characters we didn’t expect to. Mhm..

I won’t dive too deep into specifics to avoid spoilers, but I absolutely loved seeing Shiv’s emotional evolution in season 3. I also feel that there are some parallels between Kendall Roy and Kanye West. Jeremy Strong did an excellent job in this project.

Beyond the character development, the show’s aesthetic is sharp, clean, and well-executed. From the clothing to the music—wow. The soundtrack is phenomenal. I want to emphasize that the soundtrack they chose really created an atmosphere and tied the scenes together. Truly iconic. The zoom-ins?! incredibly effective and hilarious. If we’re talking about aesthetics, be sure to check out their Director of Photography, Christopher Norr. The above pictures are from his new free published online book.

For me, another great thing about Succession is the quick-witted humor between the siblings. Ever sat at a Thanksgiving table with my family? Yeah. It’s a reminder that these three—but actually four—adults are still kids at heart.

As for the ending?… I didn’t see it coming, but in hindsight, it had to happen that way and made the most sense. The way the show wraps up so neatly is a testament to the brilliance of its screenwriting, directing, acting, and production. Chef’s kiss.

The shows I love usually include Gilmore Girls, Weeds, House, and Californication. 

Succession is different—it's not the kind of feel-good show I watch in the background. It’s an incredible story that helps us viewers understand the complexities of generational wealth, capitalism, and the very human realities that come with them.

Three seasons….that’s all it took to tell such a powerful story. I don’t recommend binge-watching this show. Take your time and properly enjoy it!

How Do I Love Thee?

There is a magic to weed: it brings a glow, a brightening of perception, an openness to experience, an ease of being. At first glance this blog may be from an outside viewer perspective as a sex blog or a blog where it's just nudity; and I want to be the first to tell you that this is not at all what this is, yes I love the human form and there will be lots of skin on this blog. However, what this blog is at its core is a place I have chosen to express the beauty of my blackness and background commentary of my relationship with the healing properties of cannabis. As a black man living and existing fully in a predominantly white Midwestern community and finding love in the heart of a white woman (who I love more than life itself) and i'm not scared to admit this but... that causes me to sometimes forget that at the end of the day I'm a black man in america. My posts (as random as they are) will feature only black skin poc. I heart "like" a lot of post from all none POC but at this time I don't post or reblog. My blog has not always been structured this way, I've evolved my thinking about being a black boy frequenting this earth. This is not a supremacy blog; I believe there are plenty of blogs out there for none people of color and this little blog I'm cooking up is to show off the beauty of the black community foreign and domestic, and I at the end of the day don't see any issue with race specific representation because I'm proud of my black skin and if I don't show the world how beautiful my black skin is no one is gonna do it for me.

Horror/pop culture influences to the Hatchetfieldverse

As a disclaimer i have not listened to every talkback or livestream in its entirety and this is not in any way meant to be The Definitive, Master, Absolutely The Only Right List list. this is just me sharing some horror knowledge and where I think influences lie. please feel free to add on to this list!

The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals: The biggest connection I can make is Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) about aliens taking over the bodies of humans as part of a plot to invade earth. where the term "podperson" comes from

Black Friday: I know the premise is based on the real life Tickle Me Elmo craze in 1994. (people trampling each other for the doll) in terms of pop culture the evil/haunted doll is a trope as seen in Chucky (1978) and Annabelle (2014). Wiggly is an eldritch being, the black and white, the cults, madness (we'll get into eldritch later)

Nightmare Time: So many nightmare time episodes give B-horror vibes and I love it

The Hatchetfield Ape Man: what B horror is made of. I love how retro this one feels even as it takes place in the modern day timeline (Ted and Hidgens are in it, there's a mention of texting and Ted's pornhub premium account, and yet Lucy feels like a such a period character) feels like an old B creature movie (the creature from the black lagoon comes to mind)

Watcher World: to an extent haunted amusement park is a trope (hell its in classic scooby doos) loved ones turning on each other and possesion/influence is seen in a lot of paranormal horror (the conjuring 2, the exorcist) illusion based horror is done really well is Mike Flanagan's Oculus (2013)

Forever and Always: the android and the clone plots feels like classic SF. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep/Blade Runner (1982) Philip K Dick style sci-fi.

Time Bastard: the song itself is a James Bond tribute. a time loop is a great storytelling frame that can cross genres, although the ImplicationsTM always hover around horror. Groundhog Day (1993) is the classic timeloop example, if more lighthearted.

Jane's a Car: this is Stephen King all the way baby. Christine (1983) is novel/film about a killer car, the owner of said car's growing obsession with it, and the cars violent protective but deadly nature

The Witch in the Web: this is trickier for me. the witch is an ancient trope and Willabella Muckwab is a classic witch in the woods. I mean thats fairytale, Hansel and Gretel, luring children stuff. Hannah as a psychic child, and a very powerful one feels very Stephen King, (Eleven from Stranger Things is the same type of character)

Nightmare Time Two

Honey Queen: In terms of the relationship between Linda and Zoe, Death Becomes Her (1992) comes to mind. theres just something about the ruthlessness of these two antiheros. also Gerald is a plastic surgeon much like the male protagonist of that film

Perky's Buds: okay the weed turning birds sentient i can't speak to but birds in horror is a trope for sure, Hitchcock's The Birds (1963) is perhaps the most famous. The Hatchetmen being portrayed as an insular dangerous hillbilly family is also a trope, seen in The Hills Have Eyes (1977) and Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)

Abstinence Camp: Ah, the slasher. quintessential modern horror. Abstinence Camp is probably most like Friday the 13th (1980) with both the summer camp setting and the focus on the chastity (or lack there of) of the teenagers and that being the reason for their deaths. (other famous slashers being Psycho (1960) Halloween (1978), and Scream (1996))

Daddy: Peter pan syndrome or the forever child reminds me a bit of The Orphan (2013) though I admit that's not exactly the dynamic here. creepy child forcing a relationship is the twist in Ginger Snaps 2 (2004). cults spring up ALOT in hatchetfield, specifically the idea of wealthy elite worshipping the lords in black in exchange for power. this is an eldritch trope, as seen below.

Killer Track: satanic rock music or music that drives teenagers to the devil is an old panic. In terms of pop culture the premise of the cursed song itself (listen and you die unless you force other people to listen) is The Ring (2001, for the American remake) in The Ring a cursed video kills the watcher in 7 days, unless they show the tape to someone else.

Yellow Jacket: children fighting in death matches is popular now because of The Hunger Games, although the dystopian tropes roots of this is seen earlier in Battle Royale (2000) or The Long Walk (1979) (hello AGAIN Stephen King).

hatchetfield in general: the spooky town/weird town/horror town is a personal favourite trope of mine and hatchetfield qualifies. also seen in Welcome to Night Vale (2012) and the cartoon Gravity Falls (2012) to name only two. Also the ever iconic Twin Peaks (1990)

eldritch horror: the center of hatchetfield lore is the Lords in Black and they're eldeitch horror, that is massive, almost unknowable and incomprehensible extra-demensionsal beings whose scale and power to humanity is like an ant and a boot (we're the ants). explored in the works of HP Lovecraft (most famously The Call Of Cthulhu) but an enduring branch of horror in its own right. Common staples include another dimension(s) where the creatures are from (the black and white in our case) , cults worshipping the Beings for power (the starry children, Linda's wiggly cult) and madness or a corruptive influence. a great modern example is The Magnus Archvies

other influences: saw a Mariah Rose Faith tweet that said she was watching Evil Dead and could see the hatchetfield influences and yeah, the Evil Dead (1981) trilogy is very campy, very self referential horror with a starkid like sense of humor (there's a Toronto musical version Evil Dead Live that is Very Starkid, its infamous for having a "splash zone" where if you're an audience member sitting in those seats you WILL be covered in fake blood)

scream, similar to above, very meta, mixes of comedy and horror.

bonus: Hey Melissa: while not exactly the same reminds me of Misery (1990) about a woman who comes across her favourite author in a car accident, she rescues him and cares for him...and then won't let him leave. body horror, capture,obsession its all there. also based ON ANOTHER STEPHEN KING BOOK GOD DAMN IT.

EDIT: Nerdy Prudes Must Die: Bullied teenagers getting revenge on the popular kids who tormented them: Carrie (1976 for the film) (what's up Stephen King, pull up a chair), also Heathers (1988). A group of teenagers covering up a bad thing they did and being picked off by the person they wronged is also a trope, seen in I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) Nerdy Prudes is also the first stage show to include The Black Book. The black book, a grimoire or spellbook of edrtich knowledge reminds me of the Necronomicon. The Necronomicon was introduced to pop culture by HP Lovecraft, it appears in multiple of his own works, and then later in works by different creators, including The Evil Dead films. Lovecraft loved the idea of the Necronomicon appearing in other peoples work, as it built up a collective horror/eldritch mythology within our culture. Its appearance in so many works, has cemented the Cursed book/Book of The Dead/within pop culture.
