Anna please tell me more about Madhouse Joel 🥰😚👀
Honestly he’s my fave 😍😍
Okay so this actually came from an ask @toxicanonymity had gotten, like months ago 🫢
I was gonna do a one shot but honestly it was becoming a monster so I’m breaking it up into different parts. A lil snippet under the cut
Madhouse Joel
Growing up, all the adults around you always pushed you to go to college. You were forever being told that you had to go get a higher education to get a good job and then you had to find a good husband and pop out a few children and be a housewife but also work and make money. Your future was planned out for you without anyone ever even asking what you wanted. That was until the summer you turned sixteen. You still aren’t even sure exactly what happened that day. It was mid July in your small southern town in the middle of Texas. You had ventured out to the big oak tree in your backyard, swinging on the old wooden swing your dad had put up for you when you were five. Lost in your own thoughts as your legs swung back and forth when you heard bloodcurdling screams and shouts before two gun shots went off. You lost both your parents that day. During the trial, your mothers lawyer claimed she lost her mind and went insane to explain why she shot your father in the chest. The judge sent her off to spend the rest of her life in a mental institution while your daddy rest in peace up on the hill about a few miles out from your house.
After being orphaned, your dads sister, Aunt Millie, came to live with you at your house. You always loved her, she was only ten years older than you, making her a guardian at only twenty six. She was the one who supported you when you decided to become a nurse.
It’s been a few years since you graduated college, earning your bachelor’s in nursing with a concentration in psychiatric mental health. You had hoped to work in the psych ward, after seeing how your mom was treated in the hospital, it made you want to make a change. You wanted to improve mental hospitals, so many of them are still very medieval in the practices they continue to do. You knew it would be hard to really make any kind of change but you could at least make life a little better for the patients you worked with.
It had actually been a struggle to find work in any healthcare position after graduation which is why you find yourself in Elmwood now. Elmwood is a small town located down in Texas, a few hours south from where you had gone to school. They aren’t joking when they say it’s a small town, it’s home to a little over 3,000 residents. A majority of those residents come from the patients who live in the Elmwood Sanitarium. The most violent, criminally insane people get sent here. And this is where you find yourself pulling up too on a sunny Monday morning. At least it was sunny before you took a left turn down a dirt road a couple miles back. The sanitarium is hidden back, deep in the woods. As you get closer, the old hospital looks daunting and ominous. It leaves the feeling of a deep pit in your stomach, an uncertainty that something bad is gonna happen that you just can’t shake. Making your way into the parking lot that sits to the side of the hospital, you’re able to find a spot close to the front. Putting your car in park, you grab your purse and take a deep breath in,
“You got this. They reached out to you. They offered you a job because you’re good at what you do,” breathe out, “let’s do this.”
You give yourself a little pep talk to try to help subside this horrible gut feeling you have

I'm finding myself having less and less patience with people who make fun of Southerners and Appalachians (and rural people in general, though I do find it interesting how they always use our accents to mock all rural Americans...)
I follow a few Appalachian creators on tiktok who post recipes and the comments on their videos are always full of people making fun of their accents. "Um, where can I find 'oll'? I went to the store and all they had was oil 😂" or "'Worsh' must be some new technique I've never heard of!" Or even just basic insinuation that the creator isn't smart and that the food looks gross. It's annoying. I always wanna shake these people and make them remember that making fun of someone's culture is shitty! Just because they've been taught not to respect our culture doesn't mean it's not one.
I do also see lots of comments from the other side, though! Things like "You sound like my mamaw! 🥰" or "As soon as I heard you say 'cast iron' like that I knew the recipe was gonna be good' or "Ooh, nobody can make cabbage taste good like someone from the holler!"
I love seeing the kind of pride that comes from leftists like me who grew up there. I love living outside of Appalachia and making the people around me hear my accent and eating my recipes. I love thinking about the gifts that our home has given to people all over the world: foods, technology, music, inventions.
Basically, thanks for your blog. I love the perspective you bring to Tumblr
"as soon as i heard you say 'cast iron' like that i knew the recipe was gonna be good" YES that's what we wanna see when it comes to comments on our accent 🤩
speaking of, i maintain that the best way to change minds is doin exactly what you yourself are doin--sharing the food, culture & the overall beauty of appalachia complete with its inherently leftist ideals... in a thick ol fuckin accent.
dizzy em with cognitive dissonance until they have no choice but to accept they may actually be wrong! back when my accent was virtually undetectable, i used to love dropping the "oh btw, im from the south" bomb on em after they got to know me and respect me
but unfortunately, yeah, it's too easy for those kinds to just keep being ugly. takes far less effort to crack stale jokes, speak ill of us and call us stupid at every opportunity than, idk, confronting bias and growing as a person. i wonder if we'll ever stop being the butt of their jokes. probably not. fuck em.
anyway, amen to all you said. i have exactly zero patience for it now honestly, especially after getting to know yall and having this little community that has cropped up around my humble lil blog. i feel more protective of our home than ever before and i been gettin loud about it
thanks for sharing your thoughts and for being here <33

Hi!! I was wondering if I could request a poly! Lost Boy's with a female s/o (or gender neutral) who has a southern accent? Like it's real hick and definitely not native to California slang? I think that would be hilarious 🤣 if you don't mind writing this! Thank you and have an awesome day! 🥰💗
Poly!Lost Boys With a Southern S/O
Tw: none
With this, I kind of imagine a southern reader that moved to Santa Carla from a young age that their accent kind of faded, however whenever they’re irritated or not thinking much about it, the accent slips back out. However, your slang never left.
You were talking about your day before visiting them and you said something like, Hunkey Dorey which literally means everything was great and the boys were super confused, except David.
That’s when you told them that you were originally from the South and said a few things with your accent slipping through.
Paul was the most surprised out of the boys and was like, “what the fuuuck?”
Marko would react with something like, “Woah, I didn’t know you were southern?? That’s so cool!”
Dwayne would give you a smile and tell you he thought your accent was super cute.
David basically was like, “Oh damn-”
I headcanon that David would have a southern accent too which also faded away over the unlimited amount of time that he has.
Plus, Paul used to tease his accent constantly so David basically went, “yeah, no.” and that accent went straight out the door.
Paul would constantly tease your accent and say stupid shit like, “yeehaw.” You’re not amused.
Furthermore, Paul would bug you about saying something in your accent and hear the difference in the way you say things in comparison to California slang.
If you feel a little self-conscious about your accent, well guess what? David would start talking to you in a southern accent too. It kind of slips out of him because it just reminds him of the old times before he was a vampire. Plus, he doesn’t want you to feel out of place.
He would feel more comfortable that someone else shares the same accent as him and would open up a little more in letting his accent slip on occasion.
David would use old pet names he used when he would flirt with people back when he was human and they don’t fail to fluster you.
Those pet names would include; Doll, Darlin, and that accent would make those names sound even sweeter with that teasing smirk on his face.
He would also compare southern slang with you and see which ones were still being used in the South. He’s really surprised that some phrases that he knew were still commonly practiced.
Dwayne could listen to you talk in your southern accent and wouldn’t get tired of it. He already knew some slang because of David but he liked hearing more common slang that current southerners say.
Since Dwayne loves to read and he has read some romance that resided in the South and he would call you sweet things like his Southern Belle.
Marko would happily ask you some questions and how you felt about how different California was compared to where you used to live in the south.
Don’t trust him completely though, he will also tease you along with Paul. He’s still the mischievous vampire we know and love.

Hi babe! Hope you’re feeling better. Just kind of going off that ask someone sent in last week about the boys’ ages and age order. But where do you think they’re all from? Like I know (and fucking love) you headcanon that Marko is Italian and David is from somewhere in the south, but what about the others? I know I’d be hella down to read any origins headcanons you come up with! ;)
Hello Sweetie! I'm feeling a lot better thank you, actually had the energy to get a Christmas present done today lol.
As I always tend to do...I think I went a little over and above what you were asking but lol. I hope this answers your question ☺️
So I headcanon that David was born in Texas (mostly cause David with a Texan drawl 🥵). His father and mother, having just married, heard that the Mexican government needed settlers to protect it from foreign invasion, after the Mexican Revolution of 1824, and they offered liberal land grants to anyone who would become citizens, accept the Catholic faith, and settle there. (I know that in the prequel script it says they were all turned in about 1906 but I'm throwing that out the window since the movie never got made lol) David was born in 1873, and was turned in 1894 when he was 21.
The Huron tribes were mainly in what is now Southern Ontario/ Québec and Southeast Michigan, so I headcanon that Dwayne was originally born in what is now Southeast Michigan. Now when the U.S. government eventually forced tribal members to sell their lands, they subsequently migrated to Kansas and then to Indian Territory (present-day Oklahoma).
I think while he was living in Kansas was when Dwayne and David met. After all, Kansas was a state David had been to many times when he would do cattle drives with his father. I kinda wanna headcanon that David may have come in contact with Dwayne's tribe before and maybe had a slight friendship with him.
I headcanon that Dwayne was born around 1872 and was turned around 1897 when he was 25
Now as I have stated before (and will now fight for) Marko was born in Italy (we love our Italian Stallion 🥰) but he moved to New York when his family migrated to America. He was only in America for about two years before he happened upon David and Dwayne (by happened upon, like I said before, he tried to pickpocket David lol). The boys got to know Marko for a couple of months before they offered him the blood. He was born in 1931 and turned in 1953 when he was 22.
I headcanon that Paul was born in Florida (I may be a bit biased because I'm from Florida but lol) Florida was a big state to be in in the 1940s-1950s, usually for well off people. Paul's dad was one of those well off people, that's why when his company wanted him to take a job with their branch in New York that would offer him more money, he did. Moving little 10 year old Paul to the Big Apple in 1953. It wouldn't be until 14 years later when Paul met Marko at a night gathering that was happening during the infamous Summer Of Love. (Before that Paul had been very much on the straight and narrow and never wandered around much at night so he was never on the boy's radar). Marko was looking for food and Paul just figured he spotted a new friend. (Marko was honestly gonna eat him, figuring he would be an easy kill, but then he realized he actually liked his company).
Paul was born in 1943 and turned in 1967 when he was 24
I also just realized that this means that David and Dwayne were by themselves (aside from Max if he was around) for around 53 years before they met Marko. I think this kinda fits cause I can see both of them as being the type that is fine with little company, where as it was only 14 years between Marko joining and Paul joining and I think this is because of coming from a large family, Marko needs company.
I know in the movie David actually calls to or calls upon Marko the most and I wanna headcanon (like I mentioned in my other hcs) That Marko reminds David of one of his younger brothers that he lost, and that's why they have a different sort of relationship than they do with the other boys.

Hi love!! (if you have a term of endearment you prefer please let me know!)
💚🥵🍕🌎👀🐷🤠
Hello, dear! I like love pretty well, but any are acceptable! Use whatever your heart desires!
💚 - What's your favourite colour?
Probably purple but I typically wear black with red accents
🥵 - Would you rather be too hot or too cold?
Hot. The heat makes me weak and nauseous, especially since I had a heatstroke a few years ago, but the cold just makes me unspeakably miserable.
🍕 - What’s the last thing you ate?
Chicken and rice :]
🌍 - What is your favourite accent?
To listen to? All of them. I am obsessed with the way people speak, I love studying etymology and dialects. Spoken language is SOOOOOOOO 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Now for like d&d I unfortunately tend to fall into a few different English regional accents (Norfolk/South London/Posh/RP) because that's what's easiest for me. I used to have a decent "Hollywood French" accent, but I stopped using that one. Sometimes I drop my American Midwestern accent and use my natural southern accent. Honestly I could discuss this question for quite a long time!
👀 - What colour are your eyes?
Deep dark brown to the point that they look black in most lighting, however when I put black makeup around my eyes it really makes the brown stand out! :]
🐷 - What’s your favourite animal?
Probably foxes or bears!
🤠 - Are you more of a city person or a country person?
This is a complicated question. I grew up on a farm and could always run off and disappear into the woods for a whole day and just kinda do whatever I want, but I also love the city because I'm a huge community activist and I find most of my time being spent in the city. I like going places and doing things and sometimes the distance is a huge struggle for me. If I could live in like... a secluded suburb or something that would probably be my happy medium!

Hi, @kaziusklasterzoroaster ! I never said Missouri is a blue state. I was implying that nowhere in The United States is safe.
Blue states could turn at any moment thanks to a few bad actors inspired by what is being piloted in Red super-majorities - it's especially wild the overreach we're seeing at the court and AG level. And anti-trans bills or executive orders could enact quickly on a national level in a GOP-led federal administration. Not comforting given how close we are to a presidential election.
But, I love your energy to write off the red states as an uneducated, separate country. How progressive! Do you also think those of us who live here (especially those who don't want to move, despite the danger) deserve what we get? Because a lot of folks sure do and love telling that to our faces! 😆
There's a huge density of marginalized people living in red states, did you know that? But who cares, right?
But humor me a moment. Here's a map showing how the majority of Black folks live in the South.
And let's take a look at the density of trans folks - interesting how so many Southern states have a higher density than liberal coastal strongholds like California!
The folks passing this hateful legislation are neither inbred hicks nor stupid. Or even always in the majority. Roughly eight-in-ten Americans say transgender people face at least some discrimination. But gerrymandering and voter suppression are gonna do their things despite public opinion.
This is all a coordinated, national (one could argue international thanks to tactics-swapping with the UK) effort to suppress trans rights as part of a larger scheme to destroy bodily autonomy.
There's emails that prove this coordination is planned rather than uneducated "barbarians" being randomly reactionary. (One of the major players here operates in Idaho, a famous Southern state, as you all know.)
Yes, it's overwhelmingly white Christo-fascism, but it's foolish to assume this is a Southern phenomenon. Or even a rural one -- I can't tell you how many "upstanding" small business owners and Instagram wine moms are the current faces of hate.
With over 400 anti-lgbt bills being proposed or in motion across the country, there's hate to combat in every state, even Blue ones! Have a click around the ACLU's state-by-state breakdown!
But yeah, calling the South a bunch dumb hicks and fantasizing about the burning of and military occupation of cities that also included (and still include) huge concentrations of marginalized people is an amazing strategy, you keep at it, sweetie. I love when Northerners have a boner about the Civil War as if they personally ended slavery and remind us poor Southern folks how backwards we are.
(As a side note, Missouri is a red state, yes. Historically it was the South, but its contemporary identity is more the Midwest. But yeah, let's all piss on Red states, they're irredeemable, amirite?)
Oh, btw, here's a Bug Bunny gif just for you, since Florida is where I currently live (and have lived all my life) and we're also a shit stain on America. Lol, Florida Man!
(Did you know that the Florida Man phenomenon is an artifact of our "Sunshine Laws" that give the public broad access to public records, including arrests & mugshots, and that weird shit happens in every state, it just isn't as visible. And wrt our lack of education -- a lot is due to the phenomenon of rich Blue state conservatives coming to retire here and deprioritizing school funding, which only contributes to the battles over education down here.)
Ha ha, Bugs Bunny, what a wacky little guy.
Anyway, love your helpful input for the cause and reinforcing the myth of both the coastal elite and the North being post-racism/queerphobia! This definitely helps poor trans people, especially those in red states, plan for the escalating genocide! We love being collateral damage! 🥰
(I hope I don't have to make it obvious I agree that Reconstruction was bungled and a huge part of why the United States is how it is, but holy shit, knock off this ignorant, blanket anti-South bullshit. You're only hurting the marginalized people who live here with that attitude.)
------------
THAT OUT OF THE WAY
I am going to re-link my advice for trans folks in Florida, as much of it will apply to what's happening right now in Missouri. The only extra nugget I'd suggest - given the immediate HRT emergency - is for folks on testosterone to consider HRT pellet implants, in case you need something longer lasting and are worried a gel/injectable Rx might expire soon.
And my partner at the end of this post wrote an excellent list of things allies can do to help, even if you're short on cash.
Good luck, help out where you can, and please don't fucking make me post that Bugs Bunny gif ever again.
Missouri AG Just Banned Most Adult Gender Affirming Care In Cruelest Anti-Trans Move Yet
All trans people in the United States need to operate under the assumption that their care could be effectively banned with as little as 2 weeks' notice. Even if you live in a blue state. Even if you are an adult.
This effective ban in Missouri is a shock and if you are affected, you can find some tips in my planning for the bad bills barreling through in Florida.
This is a call to prepare and a caution for anyone seeking an official autism diagnosis -- it is looking more and more that it will be used to harm you.
#trans stuff#love how a call for all trans people to plan for the worst prompted some weirdo to write about their fantasies about the South being burned#how fucking classy#y'all really hate us huh
