canucks rambles ft. demko ahead you’ve been warned !!

i have been thinking about this team (shocker) and have come to the conclusion that if demko comes back soon and is able to settle in fairly quickly (which isn’t a given because he has played exactly 3 nhl games since march 9 and missed all of training camp) then visually we’ll start looking better. bc listen i LOVE arty so much and i’ve fallen for lankinen so fast as well and i love goalies always. but neither of them are true nhl starters and neither of them have the poise of someone like demko. demmer is basically just always in position (so he doesn’t need to make as many desperation saves, which look amazing but are often a result of poor positioning) and makes everything look so easy, he rarely gives up uncontrolled rebounds (he usually either smothers the puck, or directs it to the ceorner for a teammate) which makes the front of the net way easier to defend, because you don’t have to scramble to win the rebound.

like he just makes things so calm in a way you don’t even realize until he isn’t there, and the rest of the team has more confidence in their offence bc they know they have a brick wall behind them in case they lose the puck.

and again i love lanks and arty and am not trying to critique them but they do both have clear weaknesses that other teams can take advantage of, meanwhile demko is just good at everything and he doesn’t normally let in goals on low danger shots.

the moral of all this is just that we haven’t seen him play w the team consistently in soooo long that it’s basically a distant memory and i think as much as the team does have problems, and it’s players are dropping like flies, once he comes back i think they’ll just look better bc our mistakes won’t matter quite as frequently

and idk, if there’s anyone has become a fan of the canucks since march 2024 and thus hasn’t watched the team w demko as our starter, you’re truly in for such a treat once he comes back and works his way back to his ceiling god i miss him so much
