#the darkling#aleksander morozova#shadow and bone#grishaverse#ben barnes#i honestly don’t know why the show made alina shu and then never elaborated on it / used it as an excuse for fantasy racism#i love jessie as alina but they could’ve at least fleshed out her shu-ness a bit better#anyway aleksander was actually shu coded in the books :)#‘he spoke both shu and kerch and could pass as either’ was the line i think#of course i also love ben’s darkling and i’d watch him in anything#but the POSSIBILITIES#shu darkling adds so many more layers and complexities to the story#especially with him being so fiercely protective of ravka but still being persecuted#shu darkling and rakvan alina or having them both shu wouldve been so good#or having them both mixed race#i continue to hc aleksander’s heartrender father as having been a shu man though#IMAGINE though if his father was shu and his mother was fjerdan and those countries became his enemies despite being of them both though.#the wasted potential of his character 🥲#SO sorry these tags got so long btw i just have a lot to say
