hello mariam!! πβ¨πβ¨ i just finished mister impossible :'0 and i always love reading your takes on books so i was curious if you had any favorite scenes or elements π€π²π¨
hi jenna!! πππ
omg yesss you finished it!!! wasn't that reveal just jaw dropping?? it seems so obvious now that i think about it .... but at the moment i put my book down and gasped hghfhfh it made me want to read the whole book again bc this changes everything.
Yes here are some of my favorite moments!!
1) hennessy!!!!! literally everything that came out of her mouth. she's so GOOD i love her SO MUCH. i love how she and ronan were always going at each other and she didn't hesitate to run her mouth at bryde either.
2) matthew. my sunshine child....it was both sad and intriguing to read his pov in this book bc of his awareness now that he's a dream and that he's not 'normal'. reading him come to all these realizations broke my heart. esp this moment:
matthew thinking that since he isn't exactly a real/normal person, that maybe declan's love for him was never real either, that he's just something he has to put up with. and noticing the way declan talks to jordan and then asking her 'why does he treat you like you're real?' my heart....shattered. when in reality declan could never ever hate matthew and would do anything in the world to keep him safe ππ and the realization that he's not really living a proper life bc he's a dream (not going to school, not having a job, not having a driver's license, etc) and him deciding to gain independence for himself. also, his friendship with jordan π₯Ίπ
3) declan. GIVE HIM A VACATION. it's always endlessly funny and sad reading declan chapters bc he literally has to do everything he can to keep his brothers in check. but also...the fact that he's basically an outsider in his own family of dreamers and dreams. and the nightmare he had about the christmas presents and how his present was the ability to dream π and also the part where it was like 'he should have hated matthew the most because he took declan's youth from him' that hurt. but like, he really just wants the best for ronan and matthew and he loves them so much. and all those moments when he was talking to farooq-lane where he explicitly says he loves ronan π this trilogy is first and foremost a story about the lynch brothers after all....i love them so much.
4) ALL THE ART!!!! maggie was like 'i'm gonna bring the art to you' and that's exactly what it felt like reading those scenes. especially with el jaleo. i felt like i was right there looking at the painting. and i just really love how all of the main paintings were sargent paintings. like maggie loves sargent's works so much she decided to make them the main artwork in this trilogy. i remember seeing her tweets of her at art galleries and standing in front of sargent paintings and i just find it really endearing. and i love how the main painting in this book was el jaleo, and in the first book it was madame x. i wonder which painting will get the spotlight in book 3!!
5) the concept of sweetmetals!! i think it's so interesting and i also find the way they work endearing, in a way. like, what gives a work of art the quality of a sweetmetal, something that keeps dreams alive?
i love this so much. there's just so much in this book about being a creator and the creative process and the feelings that go into it, about how creating something from your heart will always be more powerful than something that's a technical masterpiece.
6) i really liked bryde being a mentor to ronan and hennessy. the dynamic of wise ancient mentor and rowdy rough students is always so fun. kudos to bryde for having to deal with those two hghfhfh i really liked the scene where he takes them to the living history museum and then the fast food diner. and also when they went to rhiannon martin's cabin....that was cozy. and meeting the little dreamers π₯Ί i just really liked bryde's vibes....he's an ancient soul. i love characters like that.
7) ronan thinking about how he's not good when it comes to thinking about the future EXCEPT for this one memory of seeing adam's gloves on top of his shoes. and realizing adam's presence in his home and in his life, the two of them existing together π€ but then also how that memory isn't enough....uh oh. the tension there was just so good.
8) the beginning of chapter 28 where ronan's dream repeats twice in succession. it really did a good job of creating this sense of panic, like why isn't he able to wake up? and who's dream is this, as bryde asks? it just reminded me that you can literally utilize words however you want to get a certain effect. like instead of just saying ronan had the same dream twice, maggie just showed it to us and it was really effective.
9) the showdown between ronan and hennessy at the end....omg. that was intense. i honestly had no idea who to root for bc i understand the pros and cons of both of their positions.
a world for dreamers would come at a cost to all non-dreamers ... they want to return the world to its original state so ley energy can flow freely. but then on the other hand what sort of world would it be for dreamers surrounded by all this 'white noise' as bryde says?
that's what i can think of for now!! i'm excited and terrified for the next book omg. and i really want to go to art galleries so badly ππ
#yay thanks for asking jenna!! πππππ#i love this trilogy so much i love maggie's writing so much#i love how the themes are artwork/creative process/ancient forests/dreams like yessss exactly maggie π#answered
