season 7

okay so some thoughts on season 7. it sure does have it’s highs and lows. it obviously suffers from chronic lack of cas syndrome and killing of side characters disease. but on the other hand when cas is there every scene is a hit. same for bobby when he was alive. the whole ghost bobby stuff is just weird.

the start and the the end of s7 are it’s best parts definetly. it does have some bangers in the middle too but it’s noticeably less good. I actually enjoy most of the storylines this season. even when the leviathan are a stupid nonsensical idea it truly is a great example of spn excecuting something terrible really well. the leviathan are stupid but they are good villains in the sense that they are organised and have a very clear goal. and the critique of capitalism, consumerisim and the power corporations hold over society is done well, like susprisinly well. like how. but they did it. however the cgi is horrendous and i have to look away in embarassment.

i really like the hallucifer storyline too. it feels like they could have put more focus on it or at least mention it a bit more before sam’s big breakdown but that poses the danger that they probably would have made work less. and this is the only instance of goofy lucifer or just post s5 lucifer that i can accept. 1. It’s a hallucination and he is ment to be annoying and pester sam continuously. but he is also treathening and alludes to having sexually assaulting sam an uncomfortable amount of times. but yeah i like the idea and not being able to tell what’s real is good content for horror. same goes for not sleeping. still can’t believe sam did heroin and on a whim might i add.

oh and dean. oh dean. dean’s emotional arch is so personal to me. lol i’m projecting but whatever. it’s all about struggling with loss and trust and uncertainty, and he’s seriously depressed. dean is very clearly hit hardest by cas’ betrayal and his death. and yes dean’s being a bitch and he’s mean and his alcholism is stronger than ever. he’s going through the motions but he’s not the same dean as sam said. and god the speech bobby gave to dean and then the speech frank gave to dean. and then dean trying to push through smiling and almost breaking apart. that scene broke me apart. and the cas gets back and dean’s so torn up. he’s so happy cas is back and hopeful again but still can’t forgive cas. and then he does that too. like there’s not really an ’external’ storyline for dean. but he’s emotional journey just resonates with me so much this season. this is what always keep fighting means andrew dabb i want to punch you in the face.

cas oh cas where do i even start. he’s perfect. obviously godstiel and leviathan cas are both great and honeybee cas is amazing. i just love him. but how cas is so burdened by his mistakes even when he is ’broken’ he is so scared of the idea him getting involved again because he deatroyed everything. and he is basically single handedly responsible for the angel genocide. he doesn’t want conflict he doesn’t want to fight. he wants to just watch the bees. because that’s pure goodness and it’s safe and then he won’t be bad either.

dean and cas this season are everyting. sera gamble keeps on giving and keeps on taking away.

what i’m gonna say about bobby is that i love him with all my heart and he truly is sam and dean’s real dad. but the ghost thing was kind unnecessary.

the middle of the season is kind of a slump but there are some gems there. and there’s way too many dick jokes. and the colouring is ugly. but there is a sense of fun. like might as well lets do this attitude.

i like kevin but my god they went all in with the stereotypes. like spn does have this tendency especially with one of characters of colour. but they also have instances where they don’t do that e.g. rufus. but with kevin it kinda feels like that they are pointing at him and screaming ’look an asian’. and honestly it’s kinda weird. like if you want him to be preppy i’m sure there’s a way to do that doesn’t come off that way.

anyways. season 7 is both good and bad. when it’s bad it’s pretty bad. but when they are good my god does it hit.
