Was looking through some human/android GLaDOS and Wheatley designs before taking a stab at my own, and ended up doodling some that really stood out to me!
Now for the arbitrary ratings of each design for each character simply because I can lol
Wheatley
@shrimperini ‘s design: I like this one a lot! He looks very polite. 10/10.
@the-dangerous-mute-lunatic ‘s design: ??? ?????? Why is he so pretty??? I’m confused but I still really enjoy looking at this one. He’s getting a 9.5/10 only because he slays too much when we all know that, canonically, he would never
@zimtdraws ‘s design: This one feels the most like what Wheatley would look like if he was a human (or human-adjacent), at least to me. One of my personal favorites. 11/10.
@cupcakeshakesnake ‘s design: One of the best object head/android designs I’ve seen of Wheatley thus far. The body perfectly matches the clunky, industrial aesthetic that his core already has! 10/10.
@dipworld-dippa ‘s design: This one’s fun! I love the cartoony vibe he gives off. Another personal favorite. 11/10
@demelly ‘s design: I like how unconventional this one is. A good mix of not-quite-human, but not-quite-machine, either. I also like how messy he looks; the curly hair sticking out all over and clothes that don’t seem like they fit him quite right give off the impression of a disorganized individual (which, considering his status as a core that generates nothing but bad ideas and never shuts up about anything ever, is very fitting). 10/10.
GLaDOS
@shrimperini ‘s design: I like this look for her. Very clean and sleek. 10/10.
@the-dangerous-mute-lunatic ‘s design: This one is my absolute favorite. Intimidating, but also very pretty. Also really like how much her chest plate looks like the one for her canonical robotic design. 11/10.
@zimtdraws ‘s design: Another unconventional design, especially for GLaDOS. But there’s something about this one that’s so charming to me. The thick curls and darker skin tone is a nice addition that I don’t see all that often for her. 10/10.
@cupcakeshakesnake ‘s design: Another banger for the object head types! I love how smug and condescending she looks all the time. Just like the real deal. 10/10.
@lacking-hydration ‘s design: This one reminds me of a classic Disney film/Saturday morning cartoon villain. Love that for her. 10/10.
@opthedragon ‘s design: This one is so silly. She’s so small! But that only works to her benefit. I really like how emotive this one is, despite having a potato for a head. 11/10.
(I made sure to credit all of the creators here. But if you don’t wish to be tagged, let me know! I’ll edit the post as soon as possible.)

tell me abt your favorite video game character from anything
Ok, I was going to talk about one character but now it’s two because they both share a space in my thoughts. Also enjoy the rambling of someone who’s bad at explaining stuff.
Spoilers for Portal & Portal 2, and minor character detail spoilers for A Hat in Time.
Tumblr media
Firstly there’s GLaDOS from Portal. I like how in Portal 1 she seems like a regular robotic voice guide for the testers (and especially Chell), and even with some of the unethical workplace testing lines she delivers, but never anything to indicate she’s sentient. She can actually call you a horrible person early on in one of the test chambers, but it’s optional so the player can completely miss it.
Then after the tests are over and the player gets rewarded (with fire), her mask slips a bit after the player escapes. Then while continuing to escape, GLaDOS drops all pretenses of ever wanting to help you and starts talking to the player in a “I’m not mad, just disappointed, and also I hate you” kind of way. And it’s wonderful.
Don’t think I need to explain too much about GLaDOS because she is an iconic video game character (or at least I think she is). Portal 2 is where she shines the most, but I also wanted to highlight the first game as well. One of the best things that happens is you teaming up with her in a “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” sort of deal when she gets put in a potato battery and can do literally nothing.
There’s also the sympathetic element with her when it’s revealed she used to be a human named Caroline whose brain was put into a supercomputer because of the dying wishes of her boss (another great performance by JK Simmons but also fuck you Cave Johnson). So a lot of what GLaDOS does, while not morally right (morals? In Aperture Laboratories?), it’s also understandable why she turned out this way.
Tumblr media
Also I was never a believer of the “Caroline is Chell’s mom” theory, but now that I’ve grown up and can understand that a lot of Glados’s dialogue can also sound like it’s being said by a bitter ex, it only makes her even funnier in my mind. I’ve said before that Portal 2 is one of my favorite games and one of the main reasons is because of her. Ellen McLain does a great job portraying her and is given some funny lines, as well as singing three of the greatest songs in this game (Still Alive, Turret Opera, and Want You Gone).
Speaking of characters that used to be human and whose voice actor gives a great performance.
Tumblr media
I love Snatcher. Glados was my favorite for a while and then he showed up. I think one of the reasons I gravitate towards him more is that I’m generally more interested in ghosts rather than robots. He can also be very intimidating, with him stealing the players soul and straight up killing the player if you refuse to sign his first contract. But also he looks like this:
Tumblr media
(this used to be my discord icon for a while)
I like silly goofy character designs, what can I say?
As I said before, Snatcher also has a sympathetic backstory with him once being a prince. Then his lover, Vanessa, locked him up in the basement of her manor when she thought he was cheating on her (he wasn’t), then everyone in the kingdom died, including him, then in between all that he became known as The Snatcher and now rules Subcon Forest.
This wasn’t even supposed to be his backstory, but it was after the character it was made for (never forget Moonjumper) was cut from the final version of the game. This backstory isn’t important overall to the main game as Subcon Forest is only part of the overall game (I have not played the Vanessa’s Curse DLC where I know it’s brought up again) but even without the backstory I would’ve considered him my favorite character of all time. He’s funny, he’s goofy looking, he’s a “soon-deh-ray” (as his steam trading card calls him), and he’s amazing. (Also 'Your Contract Has Expired' is a great track).

why do you ship chell and glados if glados is basically her mom
Okay this is actually a pretty common misconception in the fandom that unfortunately a lot of people have taken as canon, but I’m feeling nice so I’ll answer your question.
Basically, anon is referencing a theory from around 2012 that Caroline is Chell’s mom. The evidence for the theory is as follows:
- The turret opera calls Chell “bambina”, which means “little girl” in Italian
- Chell’s name can be found on a Bring Your Daughter To Work Day science project
- GLaDOS references the possibility of Chell being adopted multiple times
- GLaDOS is significantly nicer to Chell after discovering she’s Caroline
And, anon, you’re right, it does sound like a pretty good argument at first glance. The problem is that a lot of these points don’t actually hold up to scrutiny.
For example, although “bambina” literally translates to “little girl,” it’s often used in the same way “baby girl” is used in English - it can mean child, but contextually it’s usually a flirtatious term. (Source: Cambridge Dictionary)
Tumblr media
For Chell’s science project, it doesn’t work as evidence for the theory because GLaDOS killed the scientists around 1998-ish, when Caroline had presumably been uploaded several years earlier and Cave was already dead. Also, Chell’s in her 20′s, and since we know from Lab Rat/Portal 2 that people don’t age in stasis, and that Doug put Chell at the top of the test subject list only weeks after the takeover, Chell was 28 at the time of the takeover. The science project is really only an Easter egg and doesn’t actually fit into the canon timeline let alone prove anything about Caroline and Cave.
GLaDOS talking about Chell being adopted is a pretty strong point, I’ll admit, but also it’s important to remember that maybe half of what GLaDOS says is true. And even if we take what she says at face value, she also says there’s a man and a woman in stasis with Chell’s last name, which could not have been Cave and Caroline because they were already dead at that point. And the official book Final Hours Of Portal 2 confirms Cave and Caroline were not married and could not have shared the same name anyway. It was also the 50′s, an an unmarried couple of two likely famous people having a child would’ve been scandalous, and yet we see no hint of something like this affecting their company.
Also, although GLaDOS is nicer to Chell after the Caroline reveal, that’s not necessarily indicative of a mother-daughter relationship, and neither is any of their interactions. It’s just. GLaDOS being friendlier.
Finally, when this theory was made (and let’s be honest - it still is happening) Chell was constantly whitewashed to hell and back.
Chell is Japanese-Brazilian, and Cave and Caroline are white, so it would be a near impossibility for her to be their biological child (and insisting otherwise is kinda. just. whitewashing). And although people will cry “adoption!”, based on what I’ve previously proven, that’s pretty much impossible. This theory that somehow she’s Cave and Caroline’s daughter erases an important part of her identity. [Disclaimer, I am white, but this is what I’ve heard from around the fandom]
With all that said, the idea that she’s the daughter of Cave and Caroline really doesn’t hold weight when you really analyze the canon. It’s surface level analysis that doesn’t hold up. And honestly? The idea kinda cheapens the story. It’s much more powerful that GLaDOS learns to care about Chell and becomes kinder than just. Oh, she remembered she’s related to Chell.
But to actually answer your ask.
Why do I ship them?
Well, they aren’t mother and daughter, I think that’s pretty obvious now. But if you actually look at a lot of subtext in Portal 2, without the lens of the mother theory, it’s actually pretty romantic!
I know that sounds ridiculous, but bear with me!
Now - it’s totally okay if you don’t ship them. I get it. Their interactions in Portal 1 and the first half of Portal 2 are toxic if not outright well. Y’know. Murderous. I completely understand why that turns people off from shipping them, and ultimately, shipping is a personal thing. To each his own.
But before you judge me, let me present my case.
Exhibit A: Portal
Portal is kinda gay. No, really. Chell and GLaDOS are enemies in this game, but the entire focus is on their relationship (good or not) and the power struggle between them. They are opposites, two sides of the same coin, different representations of opposite ideologies. People have analyzed Portal as a relationship metaphor, or as a metaphor about women’s role in society - either way, the heart of Portal is the complicated dynamic between Chell and GLaDOS.
That’s not necessarily enough to code a romance, but a lot of popular (and especially popular queer ones) ships begin with opposite ideologies, symbolic powers colliding. Portal cements their relationship as a toxic one, something on the verge of falling apart and hurting both parties in the end. The ending image, of Chell and GLaDOS side by side after the battle, reinforces the symbolic parallels between the two.
Tumblr media
The companion cube is also pretty symbolically important to this interpretation. It’s literally a representation of someone’s heart, and you are told to protect it and preserve it under GLaDOS’ orders, and then you have to destroy it regardless of how you actually feel about doing that. You are destroying GLaDOS’ heart, so to speak.
Tumblr media
There’s also the ending song, Still Alive. The lyrics speak for themselves.
Tumblr media
They hint that GLaDOS’ feelings about Chell are more complicated than they may appear (if she’s not being sarcastic...) and she literally talks about Chell breaking her heart (also, think back to the companion cube. Yeah.). The entire song is structurally similar to many a breakup number, with the laments of “I’m glad it happened, but also leave.”
At the end, we also see that the long promised cake GLaDOS was supposedly lying about was real the whole time. Before Portal 2 came out, it was mostly interpreted as a stinger ending (along with the nicer lyrics of Still Alive) to make you question GLaDOS’ true motives and intentions.
Tumblr media
She actually did have a real cake waiting for you. (Side note - not really evidence, but in Argentina, “torta” means cake in Spanish. It’s also a slang term for lesbians. So. Do with that what you will). The cake is what GLaDOS offers you to lull you into the sense that she cares about you, so discovering that “the cake is a lie” wakes you up to the realization that she doesn’t. Except then the idea is subverted one last time, at the very end, showing that the cake is real and at least some of what she said she meant.
You also see the companion cube. You know, GLaDOS’ symbolic heart?
Now, okay, you might be thinking I’m extrapolating a bit too much. And you might be right. But Portal is not the only game in the series, and if you’re asking me about Cave and Caroline you obviously know about Portal 2.
Exhibit B: Portal 2
If you thought Portal was gay, Portal 2 turns that up to 11.
Even before GLaDOS wakes up, you’re treated to some visual subtext. A few of Rattmann’s drawings representing the events of Portal 2 focus a lot on the relationship between GLaDOS and Chell, with more of the cake symbolism.
Tumblr media
In this, you can see a face layered on top of GLaDOS. This could be foreshadowing about Caroline, and likely is, but also resembles his other drawing of Chell. It insists that Chell is a part of GLaDOS, or reinforces parallels between Chell and Caroline, hinting at something either way.
Tumblr media
In this picture, we also see Chell standing on top of GLaDOS, in the same position where the overlay of the feminine face was, again referencing the parallel. It also presents them as opposites, fundamental parts of the same thing and both connected to the same basis, but on opposing sides.
When GLaDOS wakes up, she returns to her antagonistic role, but there are more hints to something deeper just like in Portal.
Tumblr media
Here, in her awakening lines, she references Chell not unlike an estranged ex. Also worth noting that GLaDOS is pretty much the personification of testing (in a sense, she is testing since she can control all of Aperture like an extension of her body), and insinuates that Chell loves to test. And that she reciprocates that feeling.
In test chamber 10, she says this:
Tumblr media
It’s supposed to be threatening, but it does read as almost... sentimental.
There’s also another chamber with companion cubes in Portal 2. I already talked about their symbolism in Portal, and the same pretty much applies to them here. However, GLaDOS says something interesting about them during this level:
Tumblr media
Once again, meant to be intimidating, ends up coming off as “well, GLaDOS, why were you going to give Chell a heart shaped representation of yourself that says ‘I love you?’” And you might think I’m stretching the GLaDOS’ heart metaphor thing a little far here, and I might agree, if the companion cubes didn’t literally sing Cara Mia for you.
Cara Mia is the turret opera from the end of the game, which is all about how much GLaDOS cares about Chell. More on that later. But the companion cubes play a song called Love as A Construct, and when you get close to them, they sing a specific part of the song that has the tune of Cara Mia. These things literally exist to sing about GLaDOS’ feelings.
Which makes this line a lot more. For lack of a better term. Tsundere-ish.
Tumblr media
Then, right before the escape, she starts talking about the confetti from her fake surprise.
Tumblr media
I really don’t have to explain this one. What else does GLaDOS consider an inconvenience but might miss anyway? Or, more aptly, who else?
Then, during the escape, she teases a (fake) final test chamber in front of you, and forms the panels in the shape of a heart. No, really.
Tumblr media
Up to this point, a lot of the points I’ve presented are interspersed with a fair amount of antagonization on GLaDOS’ behalf, more Foe Yay than anything actually hinting at something deeper than GLaDOS being conflicted about whether she loves or hates Chell. But things really ramp up after Wheatley’s betrayal, when the two of them are forced to team up. (I should also note here that “enemies to lovers” is a pretty classic queer romance trope.)
Here, GLaDOS is put on an equal level with Chell and they have to rely on each other if they want to survive. For the rest of the singleplayer campaign, GLaDOS becomes a lot nicer and even friendly to Chell. There comes a point where she starts referring to Chell as a teammate, calling them “we.” She begins to consider them one unit, two opposites unified. Here’s what she says after the lemon rant:
Tumblr media
You can not only see her using we, but actively talking about how her and Chell are going to fight Wheatley together. There’s also that last line - “let’s explode with some dignity.” GLaDOS has fully accepted the very likely possibility that she and Chell might die together. That she might die on the same level, and the same team as Chell. And she seems... surprisingly okay with that, as long as she and Chell go together.
It’s during the Old Aperture levels that Chell and GLaDOS also discover that they have a lot in common. This is the part of the game where GLaDOS figures out she’s Caroline, that she’s human. Or, that she’s like Chell. And Chell discovers (from what we can tell anyway) that Caroline is kind, that she’s funny and smart and so many of these things she never noticed about GLaDOS before. Now also with the knowledge she is fighting alongside another human being.
You can also draw parallels between Chell and Caroline, both intelligent women ultimately betrayed by their seemingly innocuous male friends before being trapped in Aperture and forced to team up with one another in a way that will free both of them. We see that really, GLaDOS isn’t that different from Chell - she too has been imprisoned in this place against her will, but in a completely different way. Once again, the idea of two sides of the same coin applies here.
I’ve written another meta about this before, but I also think the whole idea of repressing a part of your identity and hating it, before bonding with another woman and then realizing that it’s okay to be like her and to be on her side. It’s okay to be yourself and meeting her is what helps you discover this new part of yourself. Is kinda inherently gay. GLaDOS’ discovery of her own humanity just fits so well into a queer realization narrative, to me at least.
Then, Chell and GLaDOS escape Old Aperture and have to get through Wheatley’s tests.
Here, GLaDOS isn’t just begrudgingly on Chell’s team. She’s actively helpful. She wants to help Chell solve tests, defends her from Wheatley’s insults, and makes jokes to lighten the mood. Things that can really only be explained by her caring about Chell, especially the part about the insults. See below.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After the two escape Wheatley’s testing track, right before the boss fight GLaDOS has a few other things to say.
Tumblr media
GLaDOS is not going to betray Chell, because of some kind of conscience. But she could easily ignore that back in her body, and yet? Here she’s deciding not to, and for no good reason. She didnt have to say that to Chell, but she did, because she cares and she wants Chell to live.
And then, moments before the fight:
Tumblr media
The final lines imply that GLaDOS does not think of Chell as an enemy anymore, and that it doesn’t matter what Chell thinks because they are in this together and they are getting revenge together. It’s pretty heartwarming to be honest, to know that even in a fight that will almost certainly kill you, she is there rooting for you and caring about you, even if you don’t feel the same way about her. It no longer matters to GLaDOS whether you even reciprocate - you staying alive, you making it through is enough for her.
So Chell fights Wheatley and sends him into space, all well and good, and at this point, GLaDOS has the option to kill Chell. But not only does she not, she actively saves Chell, and holds her hand in the process. If you don’t believe me:
Tumblr media
And not only that, but when Chell goes unconscious from her injuries, GLaDOS sits and waits for her to wake up. It’s also implied that GLaDOS carries her to the elevator, since it’s where she wakes up but not where she passed out. In the scene where Chell blacks out, you can also hear the part of Love As A Construct that sounds like Cara Mia. Yeah. Yeah.
If you think that this cannot possibly get any gayer, you are wrong again, because then GLaDOS makes her final speech. Which is really just a love confession, let’s be honest.
Tumblr media
The “surge of emotion?” Do you mean love, GLaDOS? And the idea of GLaDOS considering Chell her best friend, despite everything these two have done to each other? The idea that GLaDOS, out of all people, forgives someone?
Except this isn’t even Chell’s final send-off. GLaDOS writes her an entire opera of turrets, that sing a literal love song. (Note what I said earlier about the use of the word “bambina”).
Tumblr media
It really can’t get any more obvious than that. “My (affectionate romantic term here), my dear, I adore you.” How. Is. That. Heterosexual. In. Any. Way.
So Chell goes to the surface, set free by GLaDOS (think of the saying “if you love something, set it free), and you think that’s the end. Until GLaDOS gives you a companion cube so you aren’t alone on the journey, and from the burn marks, you know it’s your first companion cube. Her original heart, her first gift to you, a piece of her that she wants you to carry with you to remind you that she does care about you after everything. It also gives the lyrics to Still Alive a much more genuine meaning.
Tumblr media
Portal 2 ends, and then the ending song, another GLaDOS number plays. Just like Still Alive, Want You Gone is structurally a break up song and very obviously about GLaDOS missing Chell and “counting on” (read: caring about/loving) Chell’s tendencies and quirks.
Tumblr media
She’s accepted Chell completely, and yet also given Chell the one thing she wants most. Only wanting Chell gone can mean GLaDOS not wanting Chell in her life anymore, but can also mean she wants to give Chell the freedom she’s wanted for so, so long. It’s the best thing she can give.
In the co-op campaign, GLaDOS also references still caring about Chell.
Tumblr media
And that’s the end of the Portal series. Except. Brace yourself. Despite the games being over, there is STILL more subtext somehow. It gets. Even gayer.
Exhibit C: Supplemental Evidence
Valve has made a lot of extra/cut content for the Portal series, and I’ll be looking at some of it below.
Tumblr media
This official valentine from Valve shows GLaDOS offering a romantic partner cake, which as we’ve established before, is very symbolic of GLaDOS’ feelings about and/or relationship with Chell.
There’s a lot of other concept art and official art that emphasizes their relationship too. See below.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There’s also some cut GLaDOS lines that are even gayer than the source material and again, sound like confessions or references to a breakup:
Tumblr media
The idea of “discovering things about someone”... how much more obvious can it get?
The developers have even confirmed a lot of my commentary on Chell and GLaDOS’ relationship in The Final Hours Of Portal 2. See these quotes from the book/this post:
Tumblr media
The devs literally describe it as a romance. They use terms like “cheating,” they wanted to write a romantic duet, JoCo purposefully wrote the endings like love songs. It is literally, blatantly said by the creators of the game that their relationship is interpreted romantically. By the creators of the game.
And if Word of God confirmation isn’t enough for you, have a song written for a cut alternate ending by GLaDOS’ voice actress, Ellen McClain. The song is literally nothing but GLaDOS talking about caring about Chell, about not wanting her to die/leave GLaDOS alone, about wanting to bake a cake with Chell, about waiting for Chell to wake her up. It’s so genuinely sweet and sad, and really, really romantic in the most heartwrenching way possible.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
JoCo also came back for the Portal levels in Lego Dimensions, writing one final breakup song for GLaDOS to sing about Chell. It comes off as GLaDOS not wanting to admit she misses Chell even though she obviously does, trying to replace their relationship but failing, and even explicitly forgiving Chell/wanting her to come back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, the “finally I understand,” as if only now GLaDOS understands just how deep her feelings for Chell are... What else can I say?
In Lego Dimensions, GLaDOS also outright rejects anyone who isn’t Chell.
Tumblr media
In Conclusion:
Why do I ship Chell and GLaDOS?
Well, ultimately, it doesn’t matter whether I ship them.
Because I think it’s glaringly obvious Portal does.

School
Since school is coming up and I’m not looking forward to it, I thought I’d do something fun about school to distract myself from the fact that I’m actually going to have to go into the building. And have gym. And do ‘social interaction’... Also, I think the cores in school would be entertaining and fun to write. Uh, this turned out a lot longer than expected, so, prepare for a long read.
Wheatley
He asks a lot of questions
It makes people think he’s stupid, but he actually is just curious and wants to make sure he’s doing everything right.
Presentations make him a bit nervous, but he ends up being the most entertaining one of them all
Mostly because he goes off-script and rambles about the topic or the project itself
If anything goes wrong in it, he talks about that too
“I forgot to add a period there, that’s- that’s just a run-on sentence now, so that’s not,, good. Just, uh, just pretend there’s always been a period there. You probably didn’t even notice it, actually, so just pretend I never said anything-”
For essays, he struggles more. When he’s talking, his rambling kind of carries him without thinking, but when it’s on paper, he has to focus on every single word he writes.
He has a hard time making that type of writing flow, with all the transition words and stuff.
But when he gets to write a poem (mostly freeform) or a story with his own imagination, amazing things happen
He loves to create his own little world inside the paper, of which he’s in control
So, despite the essays and persuasive papers, english is one of his better, and favorite subjects
Not great at math
Chell tries to help, and tutors him outside of class to keep his grades up
Those two are partners whenever possible
If not, Wheatley pairs up with Rick
Gym class fucking sucks (agree with him there)
Even though he’s physically strong, he’s not very athletic since he’s still super clumsy and doesn’t have great coordination
Confident when it comes to tests, not too nervous about it
Probably didn’t study much, unless Chell forced him to
Bullied
Mostly verbally and from afar though, since,, he’s very strong and the students know this
One time Rick walked right up to him and called him a moron
Wheatley proceeded to clock him in the jaw
No one ever made the same mistake again
He apologized profusely though, insisting he didn’t know what came over him
This happened at the beginning of the year, before Rick knew him
Specifically, before he knew how fucking strong Wheatley is
So since then, Rick’s tried to get on his good side, despite, most likely not being genuine about it
Besides incidents like that, Wheatley’s not a fan of school fights, and doesn’t get why everyone gets so excited that two people are attacking one another
Like ?? Are they okay???
Getting school supplies is fun
School is not
GLaDOS
I mean, I guess she’d be called Caroline in this scenario
She’s the popular kid, I mean what else do you expect?
At least, unlike the stereotype, she’s actually smart instead of just hot and intimidating
She’s both of those things too, but-
Do people actually like her or are they just scared of her?
The world may never know
Calls Wheatley a moron on a regular basis, sometimes just to mess with him, but isn’t stupid enough to do it within arms reach of him
Even if she did, Wheatley’s reputation would be in more danger than her own physical well being
Science is her favorite subject
Did you really have to question that one?
She’s also really good at math, and would be a good tutor if she wasn’t such a bitch
I call her that lovingly, of course, but you can’t deny the fact she’s a bitch-
Probably the smartest one in school
Although Nathan would claim the title for himself
But she probably has more street smarts
Rick
Is the one who makes comments about how hot the teacher is and no one can tell if he’s serious
Rick: “I’d hit that” Nathan: “That is very illegal.” Rick: Hey, I’m just kidding,, kinda” Nathan: “I will not hesitate to report your sorry ass if you think about making a move” Rick: “Fine, damn, I’ll shut my trap”
Rick, motioning to Wheatley: “Hey, look who’s here. Bet you he trips and falls in 3, 2″ Wheatley: *falls over before making it to his desk* Rick: “And down he goes.”
He has been to the principal’s office more times than anyone else in the group
Whether it be for walking out of class without permission, being an overall asshole, or for trying to sneak into staff only areas
Which he has done before
Nathan is the only student who has witnessed this and its unknown whether he has ratted him out or if the teachers just saw him
Isn’t great in school, grades-wise, but convinced Nathan to tutor him once in a while to keep him from failing
Definitely has fucked a girl in the broom closet before
Doesn’t like school, but gym isn’t bad
Usually partnered up with Wheatley in gym class because he likes having strength on his side
Probably pushes too hard when writing, so any mechanical pencil breaks within seconds unless he’s concentrated on not,, doing that
One of the only students to prefer normal pencils for this reason
Nathan
An actual tutor
He has generalized knowledge of a lot of things, so he’s great both in school and with trivia
Has the top grades in class
Best and favorite subject is math
He can and will read a full length novel in the span of two days
Makes sure he has more than enough of each supply at the beginning of the year, just in case
Actually keeps track of his supplies so he’s not left with a single pencil he found on the floor by the end of trimester 1
He does give/borrow some to students who lost their own pencils, though
He likes school, but the teachers don’t usually appreciate his insights and interruptions in class (often to add on or to correct something the teacher is saying)
Pluto
Doesn’t like school, but the social aspect of it is fun
He’s also really good at independent projects, especially if it’s about something he’s interested in
You know. Like space, for instance
The day his teacher asked the students in class to build a model of the solar system was one of the more significant moments in his life /hj
His was the most accurate, much to the disdain of Nathan
Favorite subject is also science
Virgil

this is prob canon but I feel like glados has like. absolutely verbally obliterated someone who was rude to you before and she’ll do it again. and also she’s probably written a song about you - superliminalselfships
WAAH YOURE SO RIGHT we are definitely the "it asked for no pickles" couple dfjkhg... if she's ever outside with me in her bipedal chassis she's kinda intimidating so people generally don't mess with us but if she does catch anyone being rude to me you bet she would be right there to destroy them lolll
and she has absolutely written a song !!! i would love to know it but she's too embarrassed to sing it to me (i cannot write songs for the life of me sooooo xd orz)

NO LET'S TALK ABOUT GLADOS'S WIGGLES,
DUDE I CAN TALK ABOUT ROBOT WIGGLES ALL FUCKING DAY
Like. Just to preface, I love how everything in Portal moves. The facility is alive, that's another reason why I love all the music and ambient noise and everything. Everything moves, everything sings, everything is alive.
Anyways okay yeah let's start with GLaDOs. Like, just going from that gifset that I reblogged from you? She does smooth, slow motions, and to me it's reminiscent of a predator slowly stalking prey. It's like she's circling you, and coupled with the fact that she's hanging above you, always bigger than you; it's an intimidation tactic. And those little movements always go along with what she's saying. Like that little movement looking up off to the left, it's reminiscent of an eyeroll. And even though the movements are smooth, there's always just,, that hint of robot to it, like. It's hard to describe but in the way you can see everything that makes up her body moving? The exposed parts behind the white casing moving and shifting, like the muscles in a limb. (Plus a side note, the way the casing over her eye shifts up and down as a caricature of human facial expression is SO GOOD, and Wheatley shows a lot of that too.) But, she also has the moments where it's like the facade breaks. It's like she's portraying herself in a human way without realising it, and when everything Gets Too Much she becomes more automatonic – like that sharp jerk to the side in the gifset, or like in her voice when the core transfer is being engaged in Portal 2 (thinking specifically of the "NOOO" bit where the autotune just makes it sound like a robotic whine, y'know what I mean?).
And then with Wheatley, he's CONSTANTLY moving in one way or another. Little movements to accentuate his speech; rocking side to side, squinting, nodding, that little happy spin in his chassis he does, moving his handles up and down depending on what expression he's trying to convey. Especially when you're holding him with the Portal Gun, he's enabled to move *so much*. But when becomes the central core? It's like he's trying to find a balance between his usual overexpressive self and how GLaDOS expresses herself. Like when he spins around and all the panels of the chamber move with him? How he hovers over you in the potato battery bit trying to emulate the way she towers over you, contrasted with how erratically he moves when he has his moment and punches you down the pit. I haven't been to the actual Wheatley boss fight in a while, so I can't talk for how he moves there, but iirc it's similar to what I'm talking about here – balancing his own natural movement with emulating GLaDOS.
And the rest of the bots and the facility too! The turrets and their little audio cue whirrs as they move, ESPECIALLY when they're doing Cara Mia Addio, the movements are near instrumental — the movements remind me a lot of accordions? That's another example of the robotic fluidity, the slow, smooth movements in and the sudden jerk outwards as it changes to a new note.
And in Portal 2, the part between waking GLaDOS up and Wheatley's rescue, the way panels move into place when you walk into a test chamber and sometimes they get stuck and try to slam themselves into place- it's such a human thing to do. And the panels, assumedly, have no AI, or at the very least not really any AI like in the cores, just enough to get told what to do and do it in any way it can.
I absolutely adore it. All of it, so much. Everything is alive, and it's wonderful.

2, 8, 9 for vidya game asks :3c
Thanks so much for the ask, Allen!!
2. Most nostalgic game?
Ohhh man, I don’t think I’m gonna be able to give a singular answer for any of these questions. Prepare yourself for unreasonably long rambling.
Most nostalgic game in terms of the-entire-fall-season-reminds-me-of-playing-it-I’ll-never-forget-the-impact-this-game-had-on-me is Undertale. I played it first about three or four years ago and it did lead me down an ultimately negative path in terms of self development at the time (for goodness sake, please don’t get too deep into the fandom around that game, especially if you’re young) the game overall left a positive impact on me. I love it to pieces and can confidently say it’s one of my favorite games of all time.
Most nostalgic game in terms of I-played-it-as-a-smaller-child-and-it-tastes-like-being-young-again is Fishing Resort for the Nintendo Wii. I really doubt anyone out there is gonna know this game, and if you do then hello I love you. In fourth or fifth grade I had a friend who absolutely loved to play this game with me. We’d play it for hours on end whenever she came to my house and never got tired of it. I played it all the time on my own too, and it became my happy place.
It’s just a really calming, simple game where you run around and fish all day at your choice of different resorts, trying to catch plenty of different types for your aquarium. It’s not especially stimulating or exciting, and there are so many better games you could be playing, but I’d absolutely recommend it if that description interested you.
Most nostalgic game in terms of yeah-I-just-all-around-vibe-with-this-one-and-love-it-a-lot-and-also-nostalgia is Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. It was the first game I had when we got a Wii U about....... 7 years ago at this point? And it was my first Zelda game as well. I love the art style, I love the gameplay, I love the music, I love the story... I love this game. There’s really not much more I have to say. It introduced me to one of my long time favorite series’ in gaming and it did a damn fine job! Also, I would kill and die for the King of Red Lions.
8. Favorite song from a game?
Alright, all three of you lovely people who have sent asks for this so far sent me this question. And that means I can do whatever I want now because I have so much space to yell all my favorite game music at you all. I’ll be categorizing by games/franchises because :D so much music, so little time.
The Legend of Zelda: Molgera Battle Theme - Wind Waker Song of Storms/Inside Windmill Hut - Ocarina of Time Gerudo Valley - Ocarina of Time Groose's Theme - Skyward Sword (also, shoutout to Romantic Groose for the beautiful trombone there) Eldin Volcano - Skyward Sword Mogma Theme - Skyward Sword Any Of The Music In Eldin Please I Would Die For Those Heavy Beats And Low Brass Oh my gosh just put the rest of the Skyward Sword soundtrack on there too honestly. I love it so much. Deku Toad - Twilight Princess Goron City (Day) - Breath of the Wild Zant Battle - Twilight Princess
Uhh okay there’s a Lot here and I know there’s so much more I could have put so saving more relevant music for the next answers so I can actually finish this today, lol! Just know the Zelda franchise has such good music.
9. Favorite character from a game?
Ohhhhhh....... Oh this is so hard. Mostly because I haven’t played enough games lately and need to remember which characters I got unreasonably attached to.
Okay. I’m gonna go with GlaDOS from Portal and Portal 2 here. I’m so very tempted to obsess over Wheatley, and just know that I love him to pieces despite [redacted for spoiler purposes] and all that, but today GlaDOS just.... takes the cake.. :)
So yeah, she’s absolutely hilarious and I laughed out loud at so many of her lines in both games. She’s the perfect character to have interact with you while you’re doing all your good old portally missions and when you’re.... not doing your portally missions. All in all, GlaDOS is a fantastically hilarious villain who still manages to be quite intimidating when all’s said and done......uNTIL Portal 2! You get such a different view of her due to the events of that game and while it’s by no means a redemption, GlaDOS gets to be put in a different position than usual and it’s so very interesting! So yeah! I love her!!!!
Hm. I’m gonna try and make the next answers. A little more concise. Or this is gonna take literal hours oops

I don't know if you consider VAs for your Gems. But, if I may make a recommendation (And this is just an opinion, I don't want you to feel ike I'm shoving this down your throat. Disregard this Anon if you want). Black Diamond kinda reminds me of GLaDOS from the Portal series.( If you haven't heard GLaDOS talk before, her voice id so bone-chilling) And Ellen McLain Does such an great job. She's also an opera singer, which ties w/ the other Diamond VAs being tied to music/theater. Luv ya, Bye.
i haven't thought about yet, and i'm not good either that stuff so i'd love suggestions!
i feel like glados doesn't fit her. i would see her voice being more slow and soft but still intimidating

glados for the character ask game!! also your previous and current urls are legendary. 10/10
favorite thing about them
just like i said with wheatley earlier, one of the things i really love about her is her design. she’s got such a cool looking silhouette and she looks genuinely intimidating and imposing but also very fragile at the same time too! i love the details in her head casings, like the way the black and white segments move to operate as a makeshift eyebrow and eyelid, she just looks super cool! but honestly i’d have to say what i love most about GLaDOS is her voice. bc it just radiates such gay energies i could listen to her talk forever..
favorite line
oh GLaDOS has so many wonderful and very cleverly written lines but two lines i particularly like are this one from when she’s powered up again, and this one from when she and chell reach wheatley’s death trap, just bc of the way they’re delivered like there’s just so much venom and malice in them they give me chills every time i hear them but also they’re just!! incredibly sexy! GLaDOS voice sexy! GLaDOS voice FUCKING sexy
oh but also i love this one from the co-op courses too bc she’s so obviously referring to chell..
OTP
oof i wanna say chellDOS but i’m not really sure i support it entirely myself bc i think it’d be incredibly one-sided but like. know that GLaDOS had romantic affections for chell. like know that
nOTP
wheatDOS. god. not that i’ve seen a lot of content for it but i have seen mentions of it here and there and it’s like. wheatley was used as a tool in GLaDOS’ abuse. she managed to repress him until she experienced the core transfer and finally remembered who he was. she even talks about killing him to chell at one point ingame like. it’s absolutely a No from me!
random headcanon
she’s a big ol man-hating lesbian but we knew that already i’m sure
unpopular opinion
GLaDOS didn’t do anything wrong! SURE she killed all the scientists and put the facility in lockdown but they HURT her! she was just trying to protect herself! who’s the REAL villain here???
no but really a lot of people call her evil without taking into account what made her act the way she did. she’s not just some huge malign robot, she’s got an incredibly traumatic history and i wish more people understood that! it doesn’t excuse what she did of course, but it just explains why she did what she did.
also i think she’s sexy. i cannot stress this enough. GLaDOS is sexy

Im curious who you think the most epic villain is in any game?
That’s actually difficult. Defintily since my fav games tend to not have great villians for some reason. Or I just wasn’t paying attention because my focus was on kissing pretty people.
Mereidith is great in an Umbridge sort of way. Like wow she’s awful.
Ghirihiam I know I spelled it wrong from the Legend of Zelda is everything I love in a villain. And he bounces back from intimidating to wtf greatly. And is probably my favorite.
Portal with Glados and Wheatley I also love. Like I admit my gaming library is the same 5 games over and over.
And well I haven’t played Morrowind but the elder scrolls never seemed to have great villians.
So I guess Ghirihiam.  If epic means best.  If not Meredith.

Fanfic Liveblog Part 2!
Reading Core Memory by @wheatleyandchell Part 2
Go read it yourself if you haven't!
Oooo, this one's told from Wheatley's POV, isn't it!
Oh, he's lonely...
And thinking of her.
Aw, sweetie, you'll get your chance at making things right, you'll see!
~POV Change~
Oh, "She", so we're with the Queen of Science now.
Aw, so before the amnesia, she'd meant to take the cube.
Again, really loving how descriptive this is.
Hehe, GLaDOS is scheming~
~POV Change~
Uh oh, Wheat, looks like you've got a call incoming.
"Prepare yourself" Well that's ominous!
Oh, thrusters!
GLaDOS is Queen of intimidation
And also snark
She seems to be very in-character in this fic. That's something a lot of authors struggle with with her, but you nailed it.
“Of course, you are not a man. Not yet." Oh, I see where this is going.
Ah, letting his own crushing guilt serve as punishment. Sensible! And it'll probably be very effective.
Oooohhh, GOSH. Cause of the amnesia, he'll have to tell her what happened. Oh, this is clever!
Sweet dreams, Wheat!
And there's the end of Chapter 2!

Number 15 :o)
NUMBER 15 BURGER KING BURGER-
Ok all jokes aside, unpopular opinion time.
- It’s cool if you just personally don’t like ChellDOS, but shipping aside, I think they are coded as a couple. I mean, GLaDOS sings her Cara Mia and Don’t Say Goodbye, which are objectively love songs. Want You Gone and You Wouldn’t Know are breakup songs. There’s deleted content where GLaDOS passive aggressively gets mad at Chell “cheating on her” by talking to other cores. GLaDOS begins to use “we” in old Aperture and starts treating Chell like an ally, then saves her and lets her go, all while revealing the humanity she’d promised not to reveal to anyone else. The ENTIRE FOCUS of the series is on their changing, dynamic relationship be it as friends or enemies. Their arc is also literally just... an enemies to lovers set up lol. Again, I’m not saying it’s canon per se or that you have to ship it or like it, but I am saying there’s a lot of canon subtext there. (Also btw I heard somewhere “cake” in Argentinian Spanish is slang for lesbians so maybe the cake isn’t a lie-)
- Wheatley is very flawed, and throughout the whole game. I don’t think he was always evil and I definitely think he got corrupted just like GLaDOS, but I also don’t think it was a case of “Corrupt The Cutie.” He’s never been a cinnamon roll or whatever the fandom calls it - he’s shown having some implicit sexism, he’s cowardly, he’s flighty, he’s so obviously a show off because he’s so underconfident. People seem to gloss over these things, especially his actions in the mainframe (which, btw, he is at least partially responsible for), but I feel like if you do that and then justify everything he does... you don’t have Wheatley anymore. Wheatley’s flaws make him *more* sympathetic imo, not less - like I see fics and art where people insist Wheatley doesn’t need to redeem himself or grow in any meaningful way and just want him to be forgiven. I really don’t like that because A) It’s just not true and B) a flawed but likeable character struggling to be better is so much more compelling and relatable.
- Chelley is. Not a good ship. But. I still like it out of nostalgia and because Blue Sky lol. I think it could work post-canon but first Wheatley would need to do a lot of work on his end and actually prove to Chell that he is worthy. Unfortunately, a lot of Chelley content doesn’t actually do this and has Chell do all the emotional work for him which I don’t like. I consider myself a fan of this ship and I think if you search it up, I’m one of the blogs that comes up, but I don’t like it as much as ChellDOS and I wish people put more consideration into their fanworks when portraying it.
- Cave dying was actually kinda sad - like he was a bad person and everything but his last few intercom messages still really get me after everything he did. He made so many fucked up decisions but like, I think it’s very relatable - this idea of getting so caught up in your own ideas that you hurt everyone around you and don’t realize until it’s too late and you’re going down with them. It’s sad because like... there were so many chances for him to stop and they never happened, and with the lemon rant he’s still struggling against everything. He still never gave up. And like... idk it just makes me emotionally because he was a bad guy for sure but he’s very human. It doesn’t make me sad in an “oh he didn’t deserve that” way, but more like the way you’re sad after finishing a Greek tragedy kinda way, if you get what I’m saying.
- I wish I saw more content for the P1 cores because they’re adorable. I want to give the Curiosity Core and the Cake Core hugs. They are babey.
- Wheatrat and Chellmann aren’t that popular rn because Doug never actually shows up in the game, but both these ships are seriously underrated imo (maybe that’s just the multishipper in me lol). ChellMel and Chellyx are also good and I wish there was more content for that, too.
- It’s 2020. Can we stop acting like Wheatley did nothing wrong. Can we stop acting like GLaDOS is Only Mean And Has No Other Traits. Nuance is a thing, and the Valve writers didn’t spend hours meticulously creating these three dimensional characters for the fandom to turn them into UwU Cinnamon Roll and Mean Evil.
- I think Chell is actually a pretty kind person - the fact the game gives you the option to save companion cubes and the oracle turrets, the fact she still tries to stop Wheatley from going to space, the fact that she allies with GLaDOS despite everything, the fact that you physically cannot let go of Wheatley in the first half when you’re holding him - Chell really only does bad things when it’s a literal matter of life and death. She’s a good person just looking out for her own survival, and I don’t like how the fandom has decided she’s mean, angry, or just as bad as GLaDOS and Wheatley when she’s pretty clearly not.
- We as white portal fans need to do better and think critically about the way we’re portraying Chell, be that drawing or writing her. Stuff like not portraying her as an angry stereotype and not whitewashing her. It’s really sad to see the amount of implicit racism in the fandom.
- Blue Sky is still good although GLaDOS being the bad guy again was a bit OOC. I think it still serves as a good study of Wheatley and I like that it acknowledges his flaws and ultimately makes him responsible for his own redemption, not Chell. Also, “Prove it” was a raw line - I still can’t get it out of my head.
- He’s unpopular for obvious reasons, but I really like Nigel from Aperture Tag. He’s so charming and quirky and then when he betrays you, he’s such a fun and charismatic villain. I love to hate Nigel and I wish Wheatley had been more like that when he turned evil. Nigel is a good combination of weirdly cute, intimidating, and frustrating. He’s a really well written villain and I wish more people knew about both him and Aperture Tag.
- GLaDOS didn’t delete Caroline. I don’t think she physically can, and I think she was just lying so that Chell wouldn’t come back or think GLaDOS had feelings lol. I think even Ellen said she thought Caroline wasn’t deleted.

Inktober days 9-12!!! I know I said I would post this the day after the last ones, and I had it done, but I just didn’t feel like writing all these words but now I’m making myself do it cuz I still wanna do Inktober and I don’t have much time left. Anyways, on to the explanations.
Day 9: So this requires a bit of explaining but basically I didn’t know what to draw for the prompt and so my friend was helping me out. He said the word screech reminded him of ghosts so I drew Jasper from Camp Camp because he’s a ghost.
Day 10: The prompt was Gigantic so I drew GLaDOS from Portal because I mean she’s like super huge and intimidating. If you just ignore the fact that I can’t draw machinery then the drawing might end up looking slightly okay.
Day 11: Okay so I wasn’t planning on drawing Niko for this prompt but I decided that I didn’t want to attempt to draw another thing from Portal and so I chose a scene from my other favorite game, OneShot. I enjoyed making this one (mostly cuz I just freaking love OneShot) and it helped me practice drawing Niko because every time I draw them I tend to heck something up.
Day 12: The prompt was Shattered so I thought that was a pretty clear sign that I should draw something from Steven Universe and instead of going with the obvious Pink Diamond as my character of focus I decided to go with Lapis Lazuli just because I thought it would look better. (Also I never intended the stars to be so symbolic, I just can’t draw stars any other way but hey it works)
So what I plan to do for the rest of Inktober is to finish all the prompts I’ve already started or still really want to do and hope I can have them all complete by October 31st. But yeah, sorry I couldn’t do all of them. I think I gave myself a bit too much to do being as this is my first year doing this. Let’s hope I can do better next year.

ok so i rambled this in the writers’ chat and i’m posting cause it’s fuckin good
cause feminist caroline who’s all for solidarity and helping other women is great
but consider: caroline whose petty (glados-y) insecurities make her aggressively the opposite
caroline the cutthroat "not like other girls" who's hyper-defensive around other women because there's only room for one and she'll die before letting someone else threaten her position
because SHE'S the Smart Woman in this place, and someone else around would only make her look bad, whether by association ("this new girl sucks, women suck") or comparison ("this new girl is so much better than caroline")
caroline who's insecure around other smart women because suddenly she's lost her identity
caroline who feels either superior to or intimidated by other women so she never has any friends (caroline who's queer as hell but doesn’t know it and hates the way other women distract her)
caroline who doesn't know how to talk to other women except in guarded passive-aggression
caroline who hates men but would rather be in a roomful of them than a roomful of women, because men are simple and easily manipulated and she knows how to talk to them. there's a script for dealing with men. she knows what she's doing, she has lots of practice.
but women are scary
caroline becoming glados who chews through men like nothing -- loud, ineffective, over-emotional men, so easy to read and crush -- but chell, in her silent capability, is terrifying
(it makes me angry how well this fits glados, because it’d be so nice to think caroline was good to people, but no honey you’re so fucked up and terrible i love you)

When?
This was just a fun little Arin blurb that I did on mobile a while back. I like it, because Arin is my BABY
★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
Tumblr media
Egoraptor x Reader
★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
“You fuckin’ got this, dude.” I tapped my chin with my fist as I looked in my rear view mirror. “All you’re doing is playing some video games, you don’t gotta be a little bitch about it! Toughen up, Princess.” It’s so ridiculous, but I have to actually give myself a pep talk before I see him. He’s such a nerd I don’t even know why I’m so intimidated. How could I POSSIBLY be afraid of a guy who collects Transformers? I finish beefing myself up in the mirror and sweep up my purse and keys as I shove out the door, causing it to bounce back and hit me in the knee. “Every fucking time.”
Walking up the steps to the front door was nothing new, but it always filled me with anxiety, because that was when I would realize every time that I couldn’t turn back and just leave. Even though I didn’t want to leave – or I do? I don’t. I think. Maybe. My internal struggle always churned even after the billionth time I had walked those steps, turned that brass handle, and stepped across the wood floor into my best friend Arin’s house. We didn’t know each other since Kindergarten or anything, we just get along REALLY well. He is a few years older than me, but since I graduated high school it doesn’t really matter to anyone. We pretty much do everything together, he even went to my prom with me. People tell me all the time how they have never seen two people be so meant for each other, and they’re right. You could even say we’re like soulma-
“YOOOOOOO!” His yell boomed through the house, making my ears immediately feel warm. A smile hit me immediately as he slid into the room in dirty white socks. His appearance is always appealing to me; always jeans, always a T-shirt, never shoes. His hair rested just past his shoulder, a perfect brown with a Caramello blonde streak down the right side. He’s just like a big teddy bear, the perfect big, soft man. “What’s up my OG? You ready to get DOWN?” He curled his arms down into a muscle man flex.
“You know I’m always ready to get down, you don’t even gotta ask!” I threw my arms over my head and punched the air. A giant proud smile crept over his face, and I knew there was no way I was going to be prepared for what he was going to say.
“Okay we’ve got two options. We can do the usual YouTube and Mario Kart…”
           “Uh huh…”
           “Or,”
           “Yes?”
“We could – and HEAR ME OUT…….play Portal 2!!!” He jutted his arms out with the brand new game still wrapped in its plastic.
           “WHAT IT’S OUT I DIDN’T EVEN KNOW?!?”
“I KNOW RIGHT I JUST GOT IT ON THE WAY HOME FROM WORK!!! But listen, I don’t expect you to like, love it, or anything. I just heard it’s amazing and the best game ever and it’s literally THE perfect game to play on a Saturday. If you hate it, I promise we can just go back to Mario! PLEEEEAAASSE Y/N???” It’s really hard to say no to him. He’s just so adorable.
“ You don’t even have to TRY and convince me! I’m so excited to see Glados again, she’s such a sass ball.”
“You’re a sass ball.” He vaulted over the back of the couch and almost landed on his face. A small laugh escaped me and I kicked my shoes at the door. I took my phone out of my purse, then chucked the purse at the door with my shoes. I never have anything important in there, it’s usually bobby pins and fast food receipts. I walked over to the soft, black couch and plopped down on the left side. It was like a routine, plopping on the left side, scrolling through Facebook as Arin plugged in the game, then wobbling as Arin threw himself into the right side of the couch. We had both made considerable butt marks in the cushions, even though his was bigger than mine. If you looked at the indents you probably wouldn’t be able to tell anyone had ever sat in my spot.
“ The amount of ready I have in my body is incredible.” It was so comforting to hear him talk. He’s so unique it makes my heart flutter.
“Would you say it’s inc-READY-ble?” I snickered at my own stupidity, and he genuinely laughed at the joke. As Arin started up the game I pulled my legs up to the couch and leaned forward onto my elbows to get a better look at the TV. Excitement poured out of both of us as the story unfurled, Arin failing puzzles again and again and getting amusingly frustrated. We laughed so much at his screw-ups because it never really got to him. That’s the fun of gaming though, if it was too easy it wouldn’t be fun.
He decided it was my turn to try it out, which was not a great decision. The further I got the more irritated I became. And unlike Arin, I was not casually upset. I was angry and wanted to hit things. He tried his best to encourage you, but to no avail. You thrust the controller back into Arin’s hands and crossed your arms.
“Oooh come on Y/N, you’re not that bad.” He clutched his arm around your shoulder and pulled you to him as a fake comforting notion. “At least you’re the pretty one here.” I loved hearing him compliment me, but I still pouted. It was just  game, I would get over it. Turning to look at him, I stuck my tongue out, and made myself smile. I couldn’t stay mad around him, he was just such a sweet presence.
He kept his hand rested on my shoulder, his face inches from mine. I could feel my entire face grow red as he looked into my eyes. And then I forgot how to breathe. The look of fear must have been plastered across my face; his eyes quickly widened and he pulled his arm back to himself and gripped the controller to go back to playing. We both stared at the screen while the character jumped through portals and grabbed boxes. Arin paused the game and leaned his head against his hand, looking at me.
I didn’t look at him, I knew I couldn’t. Too embarrassed, I stood up and quickly gathered my things and slipped my flats back on. “I should go.”
“You don’t have to…” Arin protested. I paused with my hand over the door knob and debated turning back. What would happen if I did? If I didn’t? I decided against it and opened the door.
“I’ll see you tomorrow.” I peered back over my shoulder to see him sitting at the edge of the couch watching me, a helpless look in his eyes. My face flushed once more as I panicked and loudly shut the door behind me. My car was uninviting, and the rear view mirror criticized me. I judged it back though, I couldn’t let it win. “I know I have feelings for him so shut up! I’ll tell him when I’m ready! Not now!” Turning the car on, I sped away hoping for a quick drive home. I felt awful and conflicted.
 “If not now, then when?”
