3, 8, and 16 for the OTP ask 💜
Thanks so much for the ask! I answered #3 here but here are the other two!
8. Who likes to ask random, off-topic questions with no prompting?
Emmeline finds that when her mind is idle it can often wander to subjects that have little bearing on her present set of circumstances. As such, she is known to often surprise Mr. Sinclaire with add odd topic, or several, when conversation is lacking. Mr. Sinclaire scarcely has an appetite for fiction, but has read many renowned novels in his time. He most assuredly does not share his wife’s penchant for gothic fiction however and finds when she brings up the themes of her latest readings of Irving, Poe, or Shelley that he hardly has the stomach for it.
“Why must my fair wife have such an appetite for such ghastly things?” Mr. Sinclaire inquires after his wife regails him of the tale of Ichabod Crane which she had read a few days prior.
She smiles at him from her place at the other end of the dining table. “Mr. Sinclaire, with a life that has such a happy ending as mine, it is only fair to think of some sort of conflict or fantasy from time to time.”
16. Who secretly has a hobby they don’t want the other to know about because they’re embarassed?
It is no secret to Emmeline that Mr. Sinclaire is a closet romantic. Before he had even met Emmeline, Ernest committed most of Shakespeare’s sonnets to memory. Further along in their marriage, he also takes up the study of other romantic poets. There is one thing that Mrs. Sinclaire was unaware of about her husband until one day when she happens on him daydreaming in his study.
“Mr. Sinclaire?” Emmeline calls from the door of Ernest’s study, which was closed, a rare appearance. “Would you care for some tea?”
The afternoon was a quiet one, the fourth one this week and Emmeline was feeling a bit stir crazy. She hadn’t company in four days and Ernest was ever busy this time of month at his books. She opens the door slowly and quietly, holding a novel she had wanted to return to the shelves there.
“Mrs. Sinclaire,” Ernest smiles up from his desk as he shuffles and stacks papers hurriedly. She slips the book into the shelves and scans the shelf for another one that might spark her interest. After she finds one and pulls it from the shelf, she crosses to Ernest’s desk.
“Please say you have some time for me this afternoon,” she pouts as she leans over the desk to place a kiss on her husband’s forehead.
Ernest looks up from his organizing and smiles at her. “I am feeling a bit peckish, so if you’ll have me, I would much like to join you for tea.” Emmeline looks entirely pleased when he stands from his desk and motions for her to head out of the room before him. “After which, would you like to go for a walk about the estate?”
Emmeline nods, some fresh air would do well to ease her cooped up feeling.
After Emmeline and Ernest enjoy their small afternoon meal, Ernest rises and heads to the front of the house to put on his jacket and some boots as it had rained earlier in the week and there were places where it was still quite muddy.
“Oh!” Emmeline exclaims. “I forgot my book in your study, I should much like to have it should we decide to sit and rest a bit in the sun.” Ernest hardly gives it another thought as his wife hurries down the hallway to his study to retrieve it.
When she enters the study, she notices some of Mr. Sinclaire’s papers are strewn about the room as they must’ve been blown from a breeze through the open window. She begins to gather the papers, many notes and letters to be addressed and sent out later in the week she figured. She notices one page, the writing on it not filling the page but in short segments each following the other sometimes without proper syntax or punctuation, quite unlike Mr. Sinclaire. She reads through it and realizes her husband seems to enjoy writing love poems when the mood struck him.
I looove these. Send me more OTP asks! They’re here!
