ACTUALLY ENJOYING a recent debut fantasy novel ive been waiting for this moment and its finally happened to meeee 🥳 😌 peace on earth
#the prose is... actually good. its a miracleeee#also such a compelling concept and like#historical fantasy that actually feels well-researched and believable#w/o getting like overly bogged down in historical realities for the sake of it#and its only like 80k words which is the ideal fantasy novel length imo#inflated fantasy word counts really need to die out as a trend#the bear and the nightingale btw#and the scrappy wild-child not like the other girls protag is ACTUALLY LIKEABLE#im too shy to actually post reviews on goodreads but i want to be like dont worry guys historical fantasy can still be well written<3#i cant even tell if its THAT good or its just other stuff ive read recently has reaally lowered my standards but like#i literally feel overjoyed just to have readable prose and folklore elements that arent. idiotic and twee
