My top favorite skins/kosmetics in MK11 (part 2)
A follow up to this post.
-Jade Tourmaline and Born-Again Assassin skins
I really adore the base skin for Tourmaline since it’s both sexy and practical (two things gamers don’t think can coexist for a female character🙄). Plus the pink shaders in general sits so well with Jade’s complexion. Born-Again assassin is probably one my fav Jade skins in general. As soon as I saw it on her default, I hoped they would put it on her living form. Thankfully they did😌.
-Kitana’s True Empress Skin
Honestly, Kitana skin’s in this game aren’t bad per se, but they do feel like a downgrade from mkx. All her skins from that game emphasized her “princess assassin ” archetype, now all her base skins in MK11 just say “assassin”. I feel like True Empress is really the only skin that fits her. Accompanied with some of her masks choices, it really looks awesome.
-Nightwolf’s Spring Lightning & Revenant skins
I just want to say not only do I believe Nightwolf is the one of most handsome male characters in the game, but he has REALLY great skins. His “past” designs are cool because they seem to be the most modern & casual looks we get for the Earthrealm characters in the game. He has one of my favorite looks among the revenants because it actually gives him a menacing appearance I felt the others were lacking.
-Jacqui’s Rainbow Warrior and Simutaniety skins
Jacqui’s jacket skins in any shader are cute because they’re super colorful, sporty, and the curly hair is rendered so amazingly. I prefer this shader because...gay rights!!!. Her future skins are also great since it gives off afrofuturistic vibes and maybe imply she departed from the Special Forces as she got older. My only nitpick is the way how they rendered her hair on the future skins (could’ve been better). Nevertheless, she still looks fab.
-Skarlet’s Blood Pixie and Kold War skin
Ever since I saw Skarlet’s reveal for MK11 I fell in love with this skin. It really established her development as a blood mage, and makes her stand out from the other female ninjas. I do prefer her pixie cut she had originally on this skin as it overall fits better, but the bob cut she has her is fine too. Her Kold War skin is nice as well as it makes me wonder at what point would Skarlet, an Outworlder, be a soldier during the Cold War on Earth🤔?
-Shang Tsung’s MK Movie skin
I honestly hoped since we were getting Shang Tsung’s movie actor to potray him in this game, they might as well add this skin for the nostalgia. It translated very well in game, and is another one of the more casual and stylish looks in game that I like. Maybe we might get more mk movie skins down the road👀.
So, those are all my favorite skins in the game at the moment. They’re definitely open to changing as more skins are added in the future.

Gency Destiny AU Pt. 3
Requested by @thenugget2008
Previous Chapters: 1, 2
----
McCree was snickering as he and Genji-3 both took cover behind a large iron crate as Fallen fired on them. Genji-3 always felt a little worse fighting Fallen than fighting Vex or Cabal or Hive. Vex? Evil time travelers trying to fold reality to their will. That was bad. Cabal. Conquerers. Tried to take the Traveler so they could conquer better. Obviously also bad. Hive? Well, on top of smelling of death, ammonia, and rotting crab meat, they worshipped the Darkness and were hell-bent on obliterating the Traveler and everyone it protected. That was also bad. But the Fallen? As far as Genji could tell, civilization-wise, the Fallen were only a few degrees removed from their own situation. They were chasing a Traveler they felt had abandoned them. The Fallen always made Genji a little afraid that the Traveler might leave the Guardians one day. Or maybe he just respected the Fallen a bit more because they had a shared proclivity for knives. Genji-3 glanced over at McCree, still snickering, before clearing his throat, leaning over the barrier, and dispatching a few dregs with his hand cannon.
“It’s not that funny,” muttered Genji.
“It’s a little funny,” said Echo, peeking out from McCree’s cloak.
“It really is though,” said McCree, vaulting over the barrier and laying down some cover fire at the Fallen rushing the area to grab some motes of Darkness. He tossed one of the little black and white pyramids up and down in his hand before shooting a Fallen Vandal in the head and spinning his hand cannon, “I’m still imagining the whole scene like...the ghost is glowing, the light of the Traveler is breathing life into the lungs of someone who was dead for hundreds of years... and your first instinct is to ask her out for ramen.”
“It wasn’t my first instinct!” said Genji, chasing after him, doing his best to dodge out of the way of the enemy fire, “She was in the middle of hostile territory! She was overwhelmed! I thought... maybe she could use a friendly face.”
“That’s what we’re here for,” said Zenyatta, his plates whirring as he repaired Genji’s shielding.
“Aw, your ghost is jealous,” said McCree.
“Ghosts don’t get jealous,” said Zenyatta.
“Ehhhh....” Echo glanced off.
“I mean, I don’t blame ya, Genji,” said McCree, pivoting to face him with with a shrug, as Fallen fire blazed past him, “She’s cute--Didn’t know Awoken could be cute like that, y’know? Pretty, sure, but it’s pretty in a way that you’re always a little scared they’re going to use void magic to rip off your--”
“Enemy team’s invading!” The drifter’s voice sounded in Genji’s helmet and he snarled in frustration.
---
“I think they like you!” said Mercy’s ghost as Mercy walked out of the Vanguard’s war room.
“You think so?” said Mercy, glancing back over her shoulder, “They seemed very... serious.”
“Well we are standing in the ruins of our formerly great civilization now facing down total annihilation from multiple sides,” her ghost said matter-of-factly.
Mercy pursed her lips.
“...Cayde made them easier to talk to,” her Ghost admitted.
“Cayde?” Mercy repeated.
“Cayde-6. He was the Hunter vanguard. He died a few months ago,”
“The menu in the Ramen restaurant mentioned him!” said Mercy, a little excited to be able to put her observations together with what she was seeing, her smile faded, “He died?”
“Well Guardians can die--Just because I brought you back from being dead doesn’t mean you can’t die,” said her ghost.
“As you’ve mentioned,” said Mercy. She stopped at the guard railing overlooking the last city and the Traveler. “I don’t know if I’m ready for this,” she said, folding her arms across herself.
“Of course you’re not! That’s what you got me for!” said her ghost, nudging into her shoulder.
Mercy smiled, “My ghost,” she said, and then her smile shrank a little, “That’s a little morbid, don’t you think? Calling you ‘ghost?’”
“Well you die over and over again--well hopefully you won’t die too much--but I’m the part of you that keeps you around! I’m a Ghost! It’s not morbid, it’s what I am!”
“I suppose that’s fair but--You don’t want a name?” Mercy tilted her head.
“A name?” the ghost’s plates whirred thoughtfully, “I’ve never had a name before. Pulled Pork got a name and he didn’t even have a guardian.”
“I won’t call you Pulled Pork,” said Mercy.
“Lots of ghosts of really great guardians have names! Ikora has Ophiuchus , Marcus Ren had Didi, Nnekchi-32 has Agu---”
“Genji has Zenyatta!” Mercy suggested.
The ghost made an eye-rolling movement with its plates, “Genji-3 is no Nnekchi-32.”
“I kind of like him,” said Mercy.
“Well yeah, he’s the first guardian you met. You’re going to meet all sorts of guardians in our adventures! We’ll need to think up a very good name so we make a good impression. It’s going to be very hard. It could take very long--It took me centuries to find you, it could take forever to find a name that--”
“What about Engel?” said Mercy.
“I like Engel!” said the ghost.
----
“I blame you, by the way,” said McCree over the comms, as they both flew their ships away from the Emerald coast and toward the lost city.
“You spend the entire match goofing off and teasing me and you blame me for when we lose?” said Genji.
“I was doing my job! I can multitask!” said McCree, “You were a million miles away. You expect every opponent that comes up to you to be as slow and dumb as Cabal. You’ve been out of the Crucible too long.”
“Patrols are important!” said Genji.
“It’s all stragglers out there. If we wanna defend the city, we need to get better--not plateau off moping in no-man’s land.”
“I wasn’t moping,” Genji muttered. He glanced off. “Her past is already disappearing.”
“Come again?” said McCree over the comms.
“The awoken?” Zenyatta glanced at Genji.
“I know Guardians aren’t supposed to get caught up in their pasts but... doesn’t it make you sad, sometimes? Don’t you wonder who you were before your Ghost brought you back?”
“I assume I was just a bigger, less competent idiot than I am now,” said McCree, a shrug in his voice, “I know it was Vex that got me. Don’t like thinking about that part too much. You’re gonna bring up your brother again--”
“It’s the one thing that’s stuck with me through three reboots,” said Genji, “What if it’s important? And why is it always I always find myself drawn back towards Mars? I mean, Bray and Rasputin have it more or less covered over there...” Genji paused, “What if I knew her before we both--”
“Bray?”
“No, Mercy,” said Genji.
“What, you think she’s your pre-Collapse soul mate or something?” said McCree.
“I don’t know. For all I know I could have known you before we both died. But... it’s a lot easier to have someone help you out when you’re revived. Zen, can you hail her?”
“Give me a moment,” said Zenyatta, scanning Genji’s comm.
---
“...And this shader is called ‘Watermelon!’” said Engel.
“Definitely not,” said Mercy, looking at the hologram of herself in a garish iridescent pink and green version of her current outfit, still leaning against the guard railing with the Traveler behind her.
Engel’s eye suddenly flashed green. “Oh! Incoming message! Guardian Genji-3 would like you to join his fire team over in the EDZ!”
“Oh! Say yes!” said Mercy. “Wait--I don’t have a gun--I should probably get one--”
“You have one!” said Engel, materializing a sidearm in her hand, “This is golden age tech, but I was still able to rematerialize it when I revived you! It was on your person when you died! It’s called ‘The caduceus.’”
“The caduceus?” Mercy repeated before extending her arm and looking down the sights of it, trying to see if it sparked a memory, “The name sounds familiar and yet...”
“Of course there’s a strict ‘no-firing’ rule here on the tower. I mean some people practice at Banshee-44′s firing range, but that’s more for getting used to different guns and most just go to the Crucible if they need practice.”
“I’m sure it’s fine,” said Mercy, tilting the gun with her arm still extended as she looked over it, “I don’t even know how to turn the safety of--”
The gun went off and the surprise of the shot sent Mercy flailing over the guard railing. She was falling down, down, down the length of the tower.
“Try to glide!” her ghost shouted after her as she screamed and fell.
“WHAT!?” was the last thing Mercy yelled up before her ghost winced and looked away at the sound of a wet thud on cement.
“Oh boy,” said the ghost, whirring its plates and glowing. After a few seconds Mercy rematerialized, perfectly fine, next to her ghost. She exhaled a half shriek and slapped her hands over what was previously her broken body, trying to make sense of no-longer shattered ribs and leg bones.
“What--what just--I just died! I was dead!” her voice was half hysterical.
“To quote Cayde-6, you just popped your guardian cherry!” said her ghost, delighted.
“I--what..?” said Mercy, looking at her ghost.
“That’s what Cayde would say. It means you did die. I don’t know what popping cherries means. It’s kind of funny that it was here and not out on a battlefield though. But anyways you’re better now. Shall we go to the EDZ?”
Mercy’s breath was shuddering. “Oh... okay.”
---
“Any response?” asked Genji as they flew.
“I was confused for a moment--,” said Zenyatta, “It would seem Mercy’s ghost is now designating itself as ‘Engel.’”
“She named it?” Genji’s face lit up.
“Engel says Mercy died but, quote, ‘Is okay now.’”
“She what?” said Genji.
“She died at the tower!?” McCree was audibly cracking up over the comms, “I thought you said she was a warlock!”
“But Engel is still confirming a meeting place at Devrim’s church in the EDZ,” said Zenyatta.
“Oh... okay then,” said Genji.
“Gotta say, really loving your fireteam picks, Genji,” said McCree.
---
“Ship time! Ship time! Ship time!” Engel was bouncing excitedly as she walked, still shellshocked, over to the landing platforms to meet up with Genji.
“I died,” Mercy said hollowly as she walked.
“Yep!”
“I died twice,” said Mercy, eyes still wide.
“And I brought you back twice!” said Engel.
“I’m going to die again,” said Mercy.
“Probably! Then I’ll bring you back again!” said Engel.
Mercy looked at her ghost with some horror in her eyes.
“We’re a teeeaam,” Engel whispered loudly, zooming close to her face.

Hey doll hey!! How is everything going for you today? Great I hope. I made 5 makeup brush purchases this past 2 months that I have been testing out behind the scenes to see what was good and what didn’t work out for me. I had wanted to do this post last week but I just didn’t have the energy and pain level that would allow for me to deep clean my brushes to get good pictures for this post. Last night I was able to wash 2 months worth of dirty brushes…. I love brush cleaning day!!! I just cant’s sit upright for as long as it takes for me to wash my whole brush collection … generally it takes me around an hour to an hour and 1/2…. …. last night I was washing brushes for around 3 1/2 hours to wash all my brushes… I still have clean brushes in my collection but I wanted to make sure all my brushes were clean going into March …. I typically try to deep clean brushes every month… I wasn’t able to do it these past 2 months so there was a ton of brushes to clean. I don’t use any fancy brush cleaning liquids or soaps… I use plain old Dove Pink Beauty Bar With Deep Moisture. I buy them in a 10 pack at Walmart for $11 and I use this only to wash my beauty tools. I love the way it smells, it doesn’t leave any residue on my beauty tools, and it leaves all my brushes soft and supple. I even use this soap to wash my beauty sponges daily. Well let’s talk new brushes….. ** SIDE NOTE ** There were 3 brushes that I purchased that are part of this haul that I used today so I had to take pictures of those brushes separately because I didn’t want to mix them in with the clean brushes … that is the reason they have a different back ground and that they are not lumped in with the rest of the brushes.
I made 3 purchases of BH Cosmetics brushes. The picture with the white handle brushes was a set of brushes I purchased from Ulta that came with this super cute holographic makeup bag… the pictures are of all the single brushes I purchased off the BH Cosmetics website.
This is a set of brushes I purchased from the Profusion Cosmetics website, plus 3 additional single brushes.
This is 3 sets of brushes plus 1 single brush that I purchased from the line Real Techniques, I purchased them from Ulta. There is 1 brush missing, I had to throw it out… I got to use it 1 time and the next day all the hairs kept falling out in clumps…. sad really because I really enjoyed using it …. more on that to come later in this post.
This is a brush set that I purchased from the Tarte Cosmetics website called the Limited Edition Back to School Brush Set…. this set can no longer be purchased, but Tarte does have similar single brushes on their website now.
Now let’s jump into the individual brush purchases and what I think about them ….
This is the Crystal Quartz – 12 Piece Brush Set with Cosmetic Bag that I purchased off the Ulta website for $29. From left to right the brushes are numbered from 1 to 12. From left to right the brushes in the first picture are the: Deluxe Powder Brush, Large Rounded Bronzing Brush, Rounded Buffing Brush, Flat Contour Brush. From left to right the brushes in the second picture are the: Large Blending Brush, Tapered Blending Brush, Domed Blending Brush, Buffing Blending Brush, Eye Shader Brush, Pencil Brush, Flat Concealer Brush, and the Angled Brow Brush.
To be honest I only purchased this brush collection because I wanted that darn makeup bag!! It was super cute. I thought I could use the brushes as decoration on my makeup vanity, however… I was missing my nose contour brush somehow … I think I might have accidentally thrown it away when I decluttered my vast makeup brush collection … so I decided to try the Flat Concealer Brush as a nose contour brush. It worked so darn well that I ended up using the whole set for my makeup application the next day.
These brushes are so soft and so well put together that had I not know that this was a drug store brand I would have mistaken them for high end brushes!!! I loved them so much in fact that I put 3 more sets from Ulta in my online shopping cart to purchase later this month (March). These brushes are nicely weighted with a sturdy ferrule (the metal piece at the top of the brush right before the bristles). I use the face brushes just was they are meant to be used except for the Flat Contour Brush…. that brush I use to cut my jaw line when I bake the high points of my face. I never like to use a blunt brush to contour… basically I never truly contour my face… I don’t know how to contour my face correctly and almost always end up with my features looking disproportionate. I do bronze the perimeter of my face and I do use bronzer to contour my nose (I find that contour powders tend to look muddy on me so I don’t use them to contour my nose), but for the most part I steer clear of contour powders for my face.
The eye shadow brushes are just lovely!!! Simply put they our perform most of my high end brushes. This is definitely a great brush set for the price point. This would be a great gift to give someone just starting out with makeup, or for someone new to the world of makeup brushes in general… they brushes do most of the work when it comes to buffing in products and blending out eye shadows. They also hold up very well to vigorous cleansing. There was no shedding and no splitting of the hairs upon inspection after they dried …. that’s the other thing…. these brushes dried super fast…. I washed my brushes around 5:30 pm and finished washing my brushes around 9:15 pm and I woke up around 7 am this morning and all of the brushes from this set were bone dry! In fact most of all the brushes in this post were bone dry by the time I woke this morning. The only caveat was the Tarte brushes … I think this is because they are so densely packed.
This is 8 of the 15 brushes that BH Cosmetics sells. I purchased them off their website individually. First the face brushes (the 1st 3 brushes of the picture on the left side and the single brush in the picture on the right side)….. The first brush is the BH Studio Pro Brush #2 Tapered Powder $6 but on sale for $4.20 right now, the second brush is the Studio Pro Brush # 3 Small Contour Brush $5 but on sale for $3.50 right now (at the time of this post this brush is sold out, but if you are interested in it you can choose to be notified by email when it’s back in stock), the third brush is the Studio Pro Brush # 15 Blush $7 but on sale for $4.90 right now (at the time of this post this brush is sold out, but if you are interested in it you can choose to be notified by email when it’s back in stock), and the brush in the right picture is the Studio Pro Brush # 18 Tapered Highlight $7 but on sale for $4.90 right now. Now for the 4 eye shadow brushes in the left picture …. The first one is the Studio Pro #7 Flat Shader Brush $4 but on sale for $2.80 (at the time of this post this brush is sold out, but if you are interested in it you can choose to be notified by email when it’s back in stock), the third one is the Studio Pro Brush # 6 Blending Crease Brush $4 but on sale for $2.80, the fourth one is the Studio Pro #9 Small Flat Shader Brush $4 but on sale for $2.80 right now, and the final brush in this purchase is the Studio Pro Brush #17 Small Tapered Blending Brush $7 but on sale for $4.90 right now.
This is another bunch of seriously great brushes for a drug store price point. They are super soft and fluffy. They have a nice weight to them and the ferrules are very sturdy. Out of all my large powder brushes that I own the BH Studio Pro Brush #2 Tapered Powder is by far my favorite one. It’s the perfect size to buff loose setting powders into the face. In the same vein the Studio Pro Brush # 18 Tapered Highlight is by far my most favorite highlighter brush of all time. It’s got the perfect amount of bristles that are just the right length and just the right flexibility to buff highlighter into the skin beautifully. In fact, I love this highlighter brush so much I ordered 3 more today so that I can always have a clean one ready to use… I plan to declutter or repurchase my other highlighter brushes… this Studio Pro Brush # 18 Tapered Highlight brush is all I’ll ever need.
The eye shadow brushes have just enough density to blend and buff shadows perfectly. I don’t use the flat shader brushes for eye shadow, I use the larger one to apply concealer and primer to my eyelids and I use the smaller one to blend my brow highlighter out and to go around the upper side of my brows with foundation to sculpt my brows out.
I can’t get over just how inexpensive these brushes are for just how good quality they are. These brushes also held up impeccably with deep cleaning. The handles are weighted well and the ferrules are sturdy. The bristles are duo colored with white and brown hairs all throughout the ferrule.
This is 12 of the 18 Vegan brushes that BH Cosmetics sells. I purchased them off their website individually. First the face brushes (the 1st 2 brushes of the picture on the left side and the single brush in the picture on the right side)…..The first one is the BH Cosmetics V1 Vegan Large Powder Brush $6 but on sale for $4.50 right now, the second one is the BH Cosmetics V11 Vegan Deluxe Round Powder Brush $11 but on sale for $8.25 right now, the third one is the BH Cosmetics V12 Vegan Flat Top Buffer Brush $11 but on sale for $8.25 right now.
a closer look at the 9 eye shadow brushes from the above purchase.
Now for the 9 eye shadow brushes, from left to right …. the first one is the BH Cosmetics V15 Vegan Round Crease Brush $10 but on sale for $7.50 right now, the second one is the BH Cosmetics V9 Vegan Eye Precision Brush (basically a small pencil brush) $3.50 but on sale for $2.63 right now, the third one is the BH Cosmetics V19 Vegan Large Blending Brush $10 but on sale for $7.50 right now, the fourth one is the BH Cosmetics V13 Vegan Brow Definer & Blender Brush $5 but on sale for $3.75 right now, the fifth one is the BH Cosmetics V20 Vegan Precision Brush $10 but on sale for $7.50 right now …. note this brush came with a damaged ferrule but it still works, it’s just dented…. the sixth one is the BH Cosmetics V6 Vegan Large Eyeshadow Brush $3.50 but on sale for $2.63 right now (at the time of this post this brush is sold out, but if you are interested in it you can choose to be notified by email when it’s back in stock), the seventh one is the BH Cosmetics V5 Vegan Blending Brush $4 but on sale for $3 right now, the eighth one is the BH Studio V16 Vegan Smudger Brush $10 but on sale for $7.50 right now, the final brush is the BH Cosmetics V18 Vegan Flat Shader Brush $10 but on sale for $7.50 right now.
I had purchased a high end brand of vegan brushes a while ago and never liked how scratchy they felt… You don’t get that with these brushes. These vegan brushes are soft and fluffy and a joy to work with. The bristles are duo colored with white tips andd brown roots. They don’t feel as weighted as the Pro line does but they still have a good weight to them and the ferrule on all the brushes but 1 are sturdy and of good quality. These brushes also stood up to vigorous cleaning.
These brushes I purchased from the Profusion Cosmetics website. 5 of the brushes are part of the Eye Essentials kit for $17.99… this kit includes from left to right …. ES3 Pointed Crease Eyeshadow, ES2 Firm Blending Eyeshadow, ES5 Flat Shader Eyeshadow, ES6 Small Pointed Eyeshadow, and the ES7 Flat Precise Eyeshadow. I also purchased 3 single brushes …. another ES6 Small Pointed Eyeshadow $4, another ES2 Firm Blending Eyeshadow $4, and an ES1 Large Blending Brush $4. These brushes are so amazing that I promptly purchased the full 19 piece bundle set regularly priced at $92 but I got it on sale for $69.99. The brush handles have a Pro makeup brush weight to them. They are sleek with a matte rubber coated handle and a very sturdy ferrule. The bristles are duo colored with white tips and black roots.
Ever since I received these brushes in the mail I haven’t been able to stop using them! They feel like PRO brushes …. like really feel like PRO brushes. I can’t wait to try the face brushes in the 19 piece set. I may have to order another of the Eye Essentials kit just to have plenty of options for eye brushes….If you can’t tell I’m a bit of a makeup brush hoarder (ha ha). These brushes held up nicely to cleaning and dried quickly. The bristles are firm but soft and fluffy. The blending brushes buffed out my eye shadows so well and in such a short amount of time. These brushes truly made creating glamorous makeup looks a breeze.
I purchased these next brushes off the Ulta website. It’s noteworthy that I own over 20 Real Techniques brushes, not including these ones. These 9 brushes 3 sets and 1 single brushes from Real Techniques . The first brush is the Setting Brush $7.99, the next 2 brushes (the orange handle brushes) are part of the Flawless Base Set $19.99, however 2 of the brushes I gifted to a friend since I have purchased this brush set many times and have so many multiples of those 2 brushes…. The first and the last brush in the left picture bellow are the 2 brushes I gifted to a friend. The 2 brushes I kept were the Contour Brush and the Square Foundation Brush. I use the Contour brush as a blush brush and the Square Foundation brush as another brush to cut my jaw line while baking the high points of my face. The next 2 brushes and the single brush in the right picture are part of the Enhanced Eye Set $19.99, however I used the Fine Liner Brush and the Lash Separator today and they both were way too dirty to comfortably take a picture of…. this set is the set in the right picture bellow. The 3 brushes from the above pictures that I was able to photograph without grossing you out are the Essential Crease Brush, the Shading Brush, and the Medium Shadow Brush. The last brush in the picture above it part of the Eye Shade + Blend Duo Pack $8.99. This set comes with the brush that you see in this picture above (in the light reddish purple handle) which is the Base Shadow Brush and the Deluxe Crease Brush (pictured in the single image bellow, it’s the first brush on top)…. the Deluxe Crease Brush is the brush I had to throw out because clumps of the bristles were falling out… the first day I used it, I used it as a transition brush and it worked so perfectly to blend out the transition in no time…. but the next day when I went to clean it off on my makeup towel clumps of the bristles fell out, I tried to use it any way and still clumps of bristles were falling out, I got bristles in my eyes … it was just a mess. I plan to repurchase this set so I can have that Deluxe Crease Brush again, but I couldn’t return the set because I didn’t keep my receipt.
The Eye Shade + Blend Duo Pack
Out of all the brushes I purchased from the Real Techniques line, the stand out brush for me was the Setting Brush. It’s the perfect size and shape to use as an under eye setting brush and is, by far, my favorite under eye setting brush.
These brushes are very light weight. It feels like you’re holding nothing and the ferrules are very cheap aluminum, easy to dent when tapping your extra shadow off the brushes. The handles are a matte rubber coated material and all the brushes have bristles that are duo colored, white on the tips and black at the roots.
These brushes hold up well to deep cleaning and dry fast, however you have to spent sometime after they are dry to reshape them.
I love Real Techniques brushes, but out of all the brushes I purchased this past 2 months, they are not my favorite… save for the Setting Brush.
And Finally … My last brush purchase of the past 2 months …. the Tarte Limited Edition Back to School Brush Set $39 when it was still being sold, however I have seen this brush set on Amazon for $69.99. Also I received a free dual ended brow brush and spoolie with my order….. Some of these brushes are still being sold as singles …. I will include links to the ones that I can find and links to ones that are similar to the ones I received in this set….
From left to right the brushes are: powder player bamboo pressed powder brush $34 but is on sale for $24 on the Tarte website, a dense foundation buffer brush…. the closet thing that Tarte sells is the the buffer™ airbrush finish foundation brush for $25, a Double-Ended Contour & Highlight Brush (I could not find a similar brush to this one on their site), The next brush came with Tarte Treasures Collector’s Set, which included a 13-shade eye & cheek palette plus a full-size mascara & this Double Ended Blush and Crease brush …. the closet thing I could find on the Tarte website that is comparable is the Bronze & Glow Contour Brush $34, the next brush is the Deluxe Shader & Blending Eyeshadow Brush $24, the next brush is the Double-Ended Concealer Brush (there was nothing comparable to this brush, however Tarte does sell a Quickie Double-Ended Concealer Brush that is fluffier and less precise for $22 and the Airbrusher Double-Ended Concealer Brush which is denser for $24 , the next brush is the double-ended eyebrow brush that I got for free with my purchase and there is nothing on the Tarte website that is comparable, and finally the last brush in the set a Doube-Ended Liner Brush, there is nothing on the Tarte website that is comparable to this brush either.
I love these brushes!! I mean all of them!! I use the Powder Player brush as a foundation brush and the foundation brush as a bronzing brush. These 2 brushes are densely packed but extremely soft . These 2 brushes do not dry fast but held up beautifully when deep cleaned. The Double-Ended Contour & Highlight Brush I use as a blush brush and concealer blending brush and the rest of the brushes I use as they were intended for use. The remaining brushes are all soft and fluffy and blend and buff makeup so well. Out of all my higher end brushes this set of brushes is my favorite. All the handles are made of sustainable bamboo, the bristles are all vegan, and the ferrules are extremely sturdy and made of a good quality metal.
Well…. Thanks for sticking it out to the very end …. I truly appreciate your willingness to read through all 3,000 words of this post…. I hope that you are having a great day/night and that life finds you in great spirits.

I’M SCREAMING
We’re 3 months away from this glitter-bomb and they gave us some stuff to scream about. I think I’ll do just that. I took my sweet time putting this together, I know, but there’s a fair bit to unpack and a lot to be excited about so, let’s go through it all!
Animation
Okay, so first things first: people are calling this a 2D movie and that’s not really that accurate.
It certainly has some 2D elements, like the backgrounds, but the style of animation only makes the characters look 2D, when in fact they’re 3D models.
You can tell in how they move. If I were to give you a still screen shot, you might guess that it was from a 2D animation, but in motion, you can tell what it actually is: cel-shading.
I had a hunch that’s what it was so I asked a storyboarder who worked on the MLP movie (and the show) if I was right and she said:
The program they’re using is ToonBoom, which does rigs with 2D toon shaders, among other things!
You know, I don’t often call things, but I fucking called it. Let me have this. Just to give you a quick definition from Wikipedia:
“Cel shading or toon shading is a type of non-photorealistic rendering designed to make 3-D computer graphics appear to be flat by using less shading color instead of a shade gradient or tints and shades.”
3-dimensional figure with cel shading, has the effect of making it look 2D. Typically seen with thick outlines on the outside and little to no outlines on the inside:
(Team Fortress 2 itself isn’t normally cel shaded, but that’s a great example a fan made of what cel shading usually looked like when I was growing up)
Cel shading without outlines, as seen in Wind Waker.
Like I said, just seeing this still image, it looks 2D, but watching it move, you can tell there’s a 3rd dimension to the character with the features and lineart mapped out onto the models to make it look 2D
Which by the way, is really unique for a major release! I don’t know about anyone else, but I was excited that MLP: The Movie seemed to be 2-D since there hasn’t been a domestic 2-D animated movie since Winnie the Pooh in 2011. 6 damn years! While I maybe would’ve ideally liked a completely 2-D animated movie, the backgrounds and the cel shading works in really neat ways, and it will definitely make the movie stand out
The purely 3-D objects seem unfinished at the moment (but that’s not out of the ordinary, CGI seems to be one of the last processes). It needs texture or shading or something, and I can tell because most of the ship looks too soft (too much like a model) to be metal. I really think this will be fixed for the final product, but that’s probably the most jarring part of the style at the moment
Not all of the 3-D looks unfinished, but the best looking parts are still the painterly, 2-D stuff (look at those towers; they’re really stylized, but you can tell they’re 3D in a more 2D environment)
THAT DIGITALLY PAINTED VERSION OF CANTERLOT THOUGH:
The light effects are definitely 3-D in the fireworks and rainboom
Oh, and speaking lighting, so much of it looks so pretty! There are one or two times when the colours are slightly off, but the majority of the time it looks freaking gorgeous
You can kinda see by looking at Rarity that the shading is juuust slightly off here (kinda like they were for the teaser trailer), but then you look in the background and see this BEAUTIFUL background and Twilight all upset and worried about this invasion, and it feels like such a nitpick to worry about what will probably still be cleaned up before it hits theaters
We also get some really great expressions, so they’re not really limited by the 3D models underneath (if I’m right about that)
Also, just as one last little note here, the style is detailed enough to see little things about the characters we didn’t know up until now, like the fact that the spines on the side of Spike’s head are translucent, or that the colours of RD’s mane aren’t 100% perfectly separated
Overall with the animation, I’m so impressed not only by how gorgeous it is,but by how willing they were to take a risk and incorporate a 3D element in the form of (I think) cel-shading. This only really matches the creative spirit of the MLP team, though. Whether or not you agree on how well they always execute everything, they always try to step up their game with every new season and push themselves to be and do better.
And while I will say that if some of the more 3D parts (yeah, I’m talking about the zeppelin/airships mostly) aren’t fixed for the final release, I would have a bone to pick with them, but I have faith that we’ll be seeing a much smoother integration of that 3D on the big screen.
Story and Character Details
I really appreciate that they didn’t outright spoil anything too big. It’s definitely a well-cut trailer! We basically only know about the same information we did before, with just a hint or two as to things like who the true villain is.
Just based on the focus given to these characters in the trailer (and what I know of the Storm King’s characterization in the first Movie Prequel comic that was just released), seems like he’s not as big of a threat as the commander of his fleet, Tempest.
It’s a kind of villain we haven’t seen on the show or even in EQG, and not only that, but
She’s got a fantastic voice actress behind her, so she can pull off the deliciously evil vibe well without, say, reminding us too much of Chrysalis or other powerful animated villains from Disney classics
Plus her design with the broken horn and her magic sparking up out of it is instantly intriguing to me: for such a powerful presence, it’s awesome to see her weakness (and most likely shady past) is always on display---especially for a commander character, that’s just really cool
Grubber seems to be pretty standard so far, nothing he’s done has really impressed me quite yet, but I’m hoping his best stuff is saved for the movie itself
The sky pirates (or skyrates) look like a lot of fun, and in context I can see how well the bipedal birb pirate blends with the universe (the bipedal designs were the ones I had the most trouble with)
On top of that, we have sea ponies at last! And they’re far more adorable than I ever could’ve hoped
The original sea pony designs from G1 looked a lot more like sea horses, with curling tails and fins on either side, but I think the meraid-ish look is both more marketable for Hasbro and more appealing to look at (the original sea ponies always seemed like a joke in the fandom to me, I admittedly never understood why people would actually want it in G4)
And a-ha! Good queens do exist! Poor Celestia and Luna. Always a princess, never a queen.
Oh, and Seaquestria? It’s freakin’ beautiful. I LOVE the rich blues and purples here. If you haven’t had a chance to check out the 360 image of the underwater palace complete with an excellent piece of background music, treat yourself.
The Mane 6′s sea pony designs are pretty dang adorable. I don’t have anything interesting to say, I just like the cute water horses, okay?
Minor Details and Incidentals
I’ll start out by saying Twilight’s narration in the trailer is pretty standard, but still heartwarming (mostly because I already know and love these characters though). It sort of reminds me of the bits of narration from the How to Train Your Dragon movies, although those had a bit more character to them.
The what could possible go wrong? line, though. It just makes me laugh thinking of all the flashbacks we could have to the series.
I guess she’s talking about that festival specifically that she’s organizing, and in that way it’s a show of character development (in a similar way to the character development on display in A Flurry of Emotions, where Twilight is told she’s late and doesn't have a panic attack or worry about what could go wrong... too much), but it’s still hilarious to contrast the idea that nothing could go wrong in Equestria to... literally all of the show.
AJ and RD protecting their friends even before the others have gotten over the shock of whatever they’re seeing tho
Starlight and Trixie get a bit of screen-time together and it’s adorable. Starlight might be stuck in Canterlot for the duration of the adventure, but I’m glad to see her included. Characters like Discord who might be too hard to explain to new audiences are understandable losses, but even if Starlight’s cameo is brief, it’s good to see her role acknowledged
In terms of music, Sia’s looking adorable so far, and Lukas Graham’s as of yet unreleased Off to See the World sounds pretty catchy (it’s the song at the end of the trailer), so they’ve got talent behind the vocals!
Jumping back to little details, it’s neat how sea pony magic has a very distinct look from unicorn/alicorn magic. Also, the bubbles are really cute
And, okay, I just wanted to take a minute to appreciate how serious this ponk is. Can we all just stop and take a look, because in this scene Twilight’s saying how she’s the one Tempest is after, and she should probably face this alone, which seems to be our Princess of Friendship’s big dilemma in this movie, and Pinkie’s clearly trying to tell her she’s crazy
Gotta love that they didn’t just go for hyperactive comic relief Pinkie Pie; they don’t seem to be boiling down these characters to just one trait (which is partially why I loved the moment where RD and AJ defend the girls; RD’s ego will no doubt be on display throughout the movie, but you’ll also see she’s ready to lay down her life for her friends)
And hey, lookie here! Canterlot got a make-over... and a contractor. There’s more pink than there typically is and it doesn’t necessarily match what we’ve seen of it in the show. Especially places like the throne room:
And you know, I’m a little torn on this detail? It’s beautiful, and I’m digging the starry night mosiac they’ve got going on back there, but it would’ve been nice to see the throne room we know and love rendered in this new style, you know? I’m gonna miss the deep magentas and the stain glass windows of the Mane 6′s accomplishments. I know that’s mostly the fangirl in me, but I like seeing continuity nods back to the show (like hey look: Cadence gets a cameo!)
Unless Canterlot gets destroyed and subsequently rebuilt in the season 7 finale, in which case I’ll shut my mouth
Speaking of which, I still have to wonder exactly when this will take place in the series, or if it exists slightly to the left of canon like the Equestria Girls movies (which, I mean, I consider canon, but still). I know there’s ties into the comics, but I wonder if/when the show will acknowledge the events of the movie... I guess only time will tell
And for now, I think that about wraps it up! All in all, I’m beyond excited to see this thing, as anyone could’ve guessed.
It should also be noted that a lot of kids movie trailers focus on the fun, comedic portions of the movie, so while I do think it’s mostly going to feel like this, I’m also looking forward to the more character-driven feelsy parts. As we well know, you can never get the full scope of a movie from just the trailer, but it’s usually especially true for kids movies.
Even just from what we have seen, it looks like we’re in for a ride. Can’t wait to get on.

Hey doll hey! I’m coming at ya with a product review on the makeup brand called Private Society. I happened to catch their ad on Instagram last week and decided to buy the full face of products to review for you.
Can we talk about this packaging? It is super cute, and I love that they carried the motif of the unicarts to the product packaging too.
I purchased as close to a full face as I could, there were certain things that they do not offer so I just incorporated stuff from my own stock.
Private Society is a cruelty, parabens, sulfates, and GMOS, and gluten free company. They bill themselves as an exclusive beauty brand developed by professional make-up artists to deliver limited edition, highest quality beauty products at insider pricing.
When I purchased these products they weren’t having a sale so I paid full price. I’m not mad at that at all… Their prices are comparable to Ulta prices.
So let’s get into the product review ….
Both are in the color Medium
Drops of Perfect Foundation … A+
Private Society offers 2 styles of foundation. A stick foundation and a liquid foundation. I chose the liquid foundation, Drops of Perfection ($30 on sale for $14). It comes in 18 shades, 6 of which are for our deeper skinned beauties. This foundation is a water based foundation that is primer infused. Their website directs you to use just a few drops at a time, something that I did not do. I used 2 pumps of foundation. I noticed that the color was deeper than I normally wear… a fact that was made even more noticeable because I had used too much foundation. The amount of product I used would have covered my face 3 times over. Because I used too much product I ended up having to buff my face for about 5 minutes, wiping my brush off every few passes to get the foundation to blend in seamlessly…. this was user error, not product quality. The color was still just a bit more orange than I would have liked, but with powder over top that corrected itself. This foundation is not a thin foundation but it’s not thick either… it’s somewhere between the two extremes …. I used my flat top foundation brush and noticed that the first couple of passes of the brush left streaks. Now this could be because I used a primer first. I hadn’t noticed that this foundation has primer infused so I used a primer first. Once I had the product buffed into the face and neck it made my face look perfected. This foundation is not a full coverage foundation, I could still see my freckles but my hormonal breakouts were covered completely. This foundation doesn’t dry down completely but it doesn’t feel sticky at all. I used a loose setting powder because I wanted to mute the color of the foundation just a bit. The next time I use this foundation I’m going to use a little at a time and I wont have to set it with powder then. I really liked the look of this foundation on my skin and it doesn’t feel like I am wearing anything. I would give this foundation an A+. I wish there was a neutral undertone option for this one, but I can make the one I have work.
Coveted Concealer … B
Private Society only has 1 concealer option. Coveted Concealer (regularly $22 on sale for $8). It comes in 12 shades, 6 of which are for deeper skin, none of which are neutral undertones, but all are primer infused. This concealer is on the thicker side, not a thick as the Shape Tape from Tarte, but thicker than say NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer. This concealer worked well to cover most of my under eye darkness. There is just the smallest amount of darkness under my eye now. What I noticed off the bat was that this concealer clung to a dry patch I have under my right eye, after I powdered and sprayed my face with makeup setting spray that seemed to correct the patchiness of that eye. This concealer doesn’t bunch up into my fine lines, in fact it seems to have concealed my fine lines… the under eye are looks flawless.. I give it a solid B, manly because it does cling to dry patches and there are no neutral toned shades, it’s also thicker than I tend to like. It’s still a solid concealer, I just prefer other formulas more.
Girl Boss Palette
Girl Boss Palette A+++
Private Society offers 5 eye shadow palettes. The one I chose to buy was Girl Boss (regularly $35 on sale for $15). There are 12 shades in the palette. The six mattes are First Class (a true white), CEO (a light terra cotta), Brunch (a true terra cotta), Jetsetter (a coral based red), Money maker (an orange based mid toned brown), and Friyay (a deep grey toned brown). The 6 metallic shades are … Instafamous (a rose gold with pink reflect), Status Symbol ( a amber with silver reflect), Iconic ( a copper with no reflect), Socialite (a pale champagne satin), Hundo (a bright gold with rose reflect), and VIP (a dark brown with copper reflect). The palette came with a descent double ended brush, on one end there is a medium sized fluffy shader brush and on the other end a pencil brush. Right off the bat I knew I would love this palette…. It has the right amount of transition to crease shades and the shadows are finely milled and buttery smooth. The only thing this palette did not have was a cream color to set the primer with…. and yes, this product is also infused with primer. The shades do not pull, do not skip, do not muddle together, and the colors are true to pan (meaning what you see is what you get). Initially I was going to do simple everyday glam look, but once I realized just how pigmented these colors are I had to test the glam factor. This little baby did NOT fail to impress me. Normally with colors this pigmented you are going to have fall out … there was none what so ever …. not even with the metallic shades. Because of how finely milled these shadows are I thought I would get some kick back too … again none what so ever… this palette is great quality for a fraction of what you would pay for other brands like Anastasia Beverly Hills or Urban Decay, and I fell like this palette is much more of better quality than the ones I own by those other two brands. My eye lids were a bit dry today, I forgot to put eye cream on last night, so I expected there to be some skipping or pulling and there wasn’t any at all. The colors blended out so well that I didn’t even need to go over the shadows with a clean brush like I normally do with other eye palettes. I am so blown away by the quality of this palette and will be purchasing another palette soon.
No flash, direct sunlight.
Secret Admire B-
When I first purchased the Secret Admire Palette (regularly $42 on sale for $30) I though it was a blush and highlighter palette…. I was wrong, and feel bummed because I love highlighter and was looking forward to trying theirs. At any rate it’s still a good palette to own. There are 5 matte, 1 satin, and 2 metallic blushes. From left to right and top to bottom … First Kiss is a metallic coral with a silver reflect. Day Dreaming is a peachy coral satin. Rose Petals is a blue based rose pink matte. Pinky Swear is a blue based pink matte. Infatuation is a copper metallic with no reflect. Bashful is a peachy coral matte. Sweet Romance is a orange based bronze coral matte. Coral Crush is a bright true coral matte. I find these blushes to be a little on the chalky side. The one I am wearing went on a little patchy and I spent a few minutes blending the patchiness out. Now, this might be, again, because I used a primer on my face and these products are primer infused, but because they are chalky it might just be because the powder is catching on the other face products I am wearing. The palette has a nice variety but I have other blush palettes, some even cheaper in price, that are better in my opinion.
Lip Service C-
Lip Service lip liners (regularly $16 on sale for $5) are not my favorite formula. They feel a little waxy to me. Now this could be because they have primer in it and I primed my lips with foundation, but I doubt it as I prime my lips with foundation every time I fill in my lips. This lip liner comes in 10 shades., of which I purchased 2. This lip liner skipped and sunk into my lips’ fine lines. I just didn’t like this lip liner as much as I like my NYX Suede Matte lip liners.
Lip Lock A++
Lip Lock matte liquid lipstick (regularly $18 on sale for $6) is a very pigmented matte lipstick that feels like a balm. It is not primer infused like the rest of the line but that’s OK for me since I always prime with foundation anyway. This liquid lipstick feels amazing. It doesn’t dry down all the way like other liquid matte lipsticks. It also doesn’t get tacky with wear either. It feels light weight. There is not scent or taste to this lipstick either. There are 12 sades, of which I purchased 3. Because it doesn’t dry down this lipstick does transfer. This lipstick feels really good on the lips. It does wear down, but it wears down to a lip stain result. I really like this lip product and plan to purchase more.
Final Thoughts ….
I am so happy I came across the ad for this brand! It’s got great quality products with a high end feel. It’s luxury meets great prices. I would give the brand as a whole an A++
There products are limited addition, so I look forward to see what new things they come out with…. Definitely worth a the full price purchase. They are having a sale on their website right now …. you can find them here -> Private Society
Well that’s all for now dolls, thanks for sticking with me , and remember as always ….
Save a spoon for a bit of lipstick.
XOXO
