KOREA DAY 7: MYEONGDONG AND HONGDAE STREETS 🐈‍⬛
our last full day in korea!! decided to roam around myeongdong and hongdae more bc we didn't have any specific plan. except to have isaac toast for breakfast/lunch. the shrimp sandwich was delicious~
also spotted a kimbap place next to isaac toast and i realised i haven't had kimbap at all during this trip?? so i got one just to check it off my mental to-do list. i had a bit of trouble chewing through the seaweed but otherwise the taste was pretty good.
afterwards we went to a cat cafe (cat playground 고양이놀이터 myeongdong branch) that we saw on our way to isaac toast!! there were so many cute and floofy cats there!! some of them looked so grumpy like i owed them money but that's cute too.
dinner was at a jeon place in hongdae?? unfortunately i didn't catch the name of the restaurant. the seafood jeon was sooo good omg. there was also honey makgeolli on the menu and i wanted to try so i ordered but our server wanted to see both of our IDs even though i was the only one drinking (ban doesn't drink) and ban left her phone in the hotel so she didn't have any form of ID on her. the exchange that ensued was so funny LMAO. it was a comical back and forth of "pls i'm flattered that you think i'm not even 19 years old but i'm actually almost 30" and "no i need to see your ID". in the end i did a google translate of "she doesn't have her phone with her and she won't be drinking" on my phone and the server let us have the alcohol heheh. i'm glad that i didn't have to forgo the drink bc it was actually so tasty (and also hard to find in sg?? i heard).
after dinner, we strolled around hongdae and checked out some of their clothing stores. saw a rly nice skirt but i didn't get it cuz i couldn't justify $80 for the last piece. :/
we wanted to stretch out our last day as much as we could so at around 10 pm when the stores started to close, we went to get a mango cheesecake bingsu at sulbing to share~
ofc couldn't pass up an opportunity to take more pics at a photobooth for the last time on this trip!! we're pros now.

KOREA DAY 8: LOTTERIA, MADE BY, BACK HOME 🐸
we had a flight at 11 am but we overslept and only woke up at 10 am. 💀 it was not a good idea to leave all the packing to the last minute bc we were at it til 4 am?? ? there was no delay this time so we had to re-book our flight. luckily there was a t'way flight back to sg at 7 pm on the same day. phew almost got stuck in korea lmaoo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
welp after securing our flight tickets, we went to lotteria for lunch. no pics cuz i was kinda hungry bUT THE SHRIMP BURGER WAS SO GOOD. pls come to sg, lotteria sunbaenim.
we had less than 5 hours til check-in and it wasn't a lot of time but we decided to head back to the city area bc there was nothing to do at the airport. that caused another round of chaos LMAO. the trip to the city took about 1.5 hours which meant that we had pretty much only an hour to do whatever we wanted to do. we could only visit one last place due to the time constraint, so we went to check out a stationery store (made by) in hongdae that i bookmarked but we haven't been to. i dropped a good $50 there on cute stationery (and also partly out of stress bc i was upset about losing my hookkahookka studio tortoise keychain bUT it turned out i still had it?? the bead chain got stuck to one of my magnets so i didn't see the keychain when i was packing my suitcase).
what we didn't account for was that the airport railway would take 5000 to 6000 won per trip?? and ban didn't have enough on her transport card for our return trip to the airport. sooo there was a bit of panic at the station trying to find an ATM to withdraw cash to top up her card.
not us almost missing our flight for the second time in a day. @w@ we legit had to run across the airport to make it for check-in.
i've never heard of t'way but it's a korean budget airline?? the plane was so empty though. the entire middle section had like nobody?? and ppl were lying down across the seats trying to sleep??
i seriously considered to go lie down as well until the plane went free falling for like 3 seconds?? ppl were screaming and there was no announcement or anything to address what just happened?? idk after that ban and i were too scared to move out of our seats (i gave up my toilet going plans too) so we just stayed awake together for the rest of the flight watching a studio ghibli movie and some episodes of vanitas no carte (!! it was on my to-watch list for a long time and i finally started it!!). nothing else happened after that though.
anyway we made it back to sg safely!! i joined ban's family (minus her mum) for supper at a ramen place before heading back home to s L E E P.

THE GREAT ND REWATCH OF 2021 / SEPTEMBER 10-11, 2019 // the car crash
-"stop acting offended" oh god sis 😰🥶
-"lucy knew hudson family secrets in the past, tiffany knew hudson family secrets in the present. both of them are dead." and you ARE a hudson family secret, hes trying like a pretty little liar to keep it 😭
-"you suspect everyone of everything, you always have since you were little" 🤔 *professor voice* "the ad hominem is a fallacy of relevance where someone rejects or criticizes another person’s view on the basis of personal characteristics, background, physical appearance, or other features irrelevant to the argument at issue.
An ad hominem is more than just an insult. It’s an insult used as if it were an argument or evidence in support of a conclusion. Verbally attacking people proves nothing about the truth or falsity of their claims" https://thebestschools.org/magazine/15-logical-fallacies-know/#adhominem
-"if you keep suspecting the people closest to you of horrific crimes you're gonna end up alone" this quote becomes fascinating in the context of our future knowledge of nancys parentage foreshadowing "i've been alone my whole life" threatening nancy with solitude comes off weird. the price of being too perfect i suppose.* wonder about ryan's take on this as a parent. strangely i think she honestly wouldn't mind being alone (on some level anyway)
-wonder what exactly makes captain tom a "legend". he was featured so prominently in the press that a serial killer engaged w him and made him out to be a hero.
-"didnt want his mom to see" where was aces mom this ep and w the poisoner? wonder why they only chose to reveal her s2. maybe to give captain tom more of a feature?
-"he was letting us down" ...or just you?
-"you two are that kinda close" its been like 2 months since they met sis i guess that is 'close' to you
-"how are you and your family?" laura says that to ace in the recording --> s2 ironyyyyy
-love how mcginnis forces the nurse to update these random strangers at the hospital lmaooo
-i love how nancy kinda thinks shes the only one doing supernatural things like shes always surprised to find people who think its legit, even hannah gruen who takes it so straight faced and seriously, nancy always respects her but gives off a little "you might be taking this a bit too seriously" vibe imo
-bess w that unintentional save on the phone to nick lmaoooo
-rawley side eyes the fuck out of nancy as she literally breezes past him to get to mcginnis 😂
-wonder how mcginnis owes tom exactly
-mcginnis looks just as reluctant to admit he cares about ace as nancy does lmfaoo
-damn she knows him really well, all he communicates to her are fucking facial expressions (and her back lmao)
-"theyre not my friends" vs "i'd try anything to save my friend" - is ace the first one she calls a friend? like, the actual f word? 👀😳
-in sharp contrast to nick, george is ironically good at mysteries bc shes always suspicious of everyone
-"okay. dead lucy-" *everyone groans* 😂
-*breezes past carson in his own house* what a mood lmao
-wonder if adam beach supported this feature or if he thought it was disrespectful/cringe
-"there are many things you and i need to discuss" 👀😳🙈👗👑🤰😰🥺🤱😔
-so do we think ted has been corrupted by simon when bess opens that door orrrr was that just ted doing 8 year old things
-love this nick/bess bonding tho
-so carson-wolf, nancy-whale, george-turtle and ace-bear. wonder if those specific animal choices have any particulr meaning. 🐢"a turtle, cool" 😂
-carson definitely has his white "do not understand but dont wanna offend" face on 😭🙈
-when i first watched this ep i could not stop saying "nifty!" the whole time 😂🤦🏼‍♀️
-carson's like "okay ive had enough of indulging this make believe crap dont tell me somethings wrong w my very clearly wrong kid"
-"this is serious" lmfaooooo at this point nancy only appeases mcginnis' beliefs bc shes desperate for answers at any cost (ie "i can just ask tiffany what happened")
-wonder how long carson has worked on this cover story for when nancy inevitably asked (the fact that he got the most curious child in the world is so fucking painful yet funny)
-nancy like 😌👉🏻👈🏻"hey mom, my friend accidentally wandered into your world for a minute, could u help find her?" lmaoo
-"are we even dating?" its been a week baby chill lmaooooo
-lisbeth + hairstroking 💙
-okay bess nails her with this clothing/fashion analysis but everyone dismisses fashion so readily as frivolous that bess gets underestimated on sight
-15 years ago + "i made you that promise when you were six" = ace is 21
-"the moment he thought his father was going to die" i'll take carson - irony for 1200 alex
-wonder who tom was chasing before his crash
-"these boots dont belong" god damn george's big sister instinct activated on sight 😭
-wait how tf did she get that bear in her hand
-"you made a difference, right?" whens the last time someone told you that
-nick and bess are the weakest fucking links w mysteries lmfaoooo
-UNPOPULAR OPINION : "you're a cop!" nancy + cops - mcginnis and rawley fuck her over/view her sexually/as competition and let her down along with karen- but she likes lisbeth who is the opposite, suspected her from the beginning due to the previous people "betraying" her (she and the chief start this show in an odd place with zero trust bc she thinks she can do it better) but lisbeth passes the test; lisbeth is willing to bargain with them and doesnt question where they got the hudsons info. now nancy does not hesitate to call lisbeth for the murder of owen (ie the hand prints) and going after josh on the roof, even tells her the blunt truth about calling the agleaca (lisbeth is NOT woke to the supernatural btw) "use me" she does want to work with police, which she is infamous for not doing previously, because of her connection to bess? because they were men? karen didnt have enough power, or didnt take her seriously? what makes lisbeth so trustworthy? or is it only nancys desire to avenge owen? but she just didnt trust the other cops to get the job done- maybe she still doesnt, but at least she trusts lisbeth for the time as an authority figure when all others have failed. all cops (karen, chief and rawley) in nancy's trust lose her respect/secrets out but Lisbeth has to prove her worth to get in. maybe its something about engaging w women. i mean women can still fail her of course (lucy kind of, kate+reveal, karen) but in terms of feminist themes, the show capitalizes on these exchanges between women for the living and the dead: ghosts/demons who are male (ie simon) are pure evil (think "mr roper" at the asylum being in particular focus when it was the whole family who died) but something like the agleaca (of human origin) is made to be a sympathetic case/highlighting how women have suffered historically and are take revenge as ghosts, able to find power in death that they did not have in life, and circling back to nancy trying to give them previously denied justice through working with other women.
-"let me do it" 👀👀could it be? empathy? a sacrifice on behalf of someone you still wont call a friend?
-"killer boots." *struts like a badass with 'im a bitch, im a boss' playing in the background*
-okay lbr. how on earth did lucys dress come off her body in the ocean? like. is that legit??
-"it's just so not how i would handle things" SIS THIS SHIT COULD ALMOST PROVE YOU TWO ARE DNA RELATED FOR HOW YOU FUCKING HANDLE THINGS like nancy? are u on crack? lmfaooo carson absolutely came for u and he absolutely should have
-"i understand that impulse, it runs in the family" make it a true daily double, alex🙃
-"you stole evidence and sent it out of state because you believed it was the right thing to do" no, you just think you know better than everybody else tbh
-wowwwwwww i cant believe lisbeth really decked her but another half of me can i fucking love lisbeth
and lastly
-oh ted. 💔🥺

main points:
- woke up early to go on chicago tour with jwoos and zac
- stop by wegmans to get water
- go on 90 minute tour
- get brunch at wildberry pancakes
- visit millenium park and the bean
- visit the sky deck but didn’t end up going upstairs cause of zero visibility
- walk towards chicago theatre area to go to macy’s, walking along michigan ave and the river walk
- stop by macy’s / starbucks
- walk to navy pier / visit surrounding area / fly drone
- take a break at pier and recharge drone battery
- dinner at giordano’s / watch super bowl
- visit chinatown and get some boba
- uber home and chill
today i:
- woke up at 8:15am to my alarm and snoozed in bed until like 8:50am LOL. jwoos and i got ready by getting all our gear set and then walked down the block to stop by wegmans. we got some water and toothpaste cause we didn’t have either of those at the airbnb
- ubered over to magnolia bakery in the loop area, where the tour guide was supposed to start the tour. we were a bit early, around 9:50am for the 10am tour. we first checked in, then met up with zac, then went downstairs to grab some starbucks. i got a double bacon and cheese sandwich for breakfast then we went upstairs to start the tour. there were about 12 of us, and we went in a circle and introduced ourselves. one person was from switzerland, one from australia, two from boston, three from indiana, and i don’t remember where the other people said they were from :p
- we started the tour and walked around the surrounding area, mostly stopping by places indoors so our tour guide could give us information. it was pretty cool, he told us about a lot of chicago’s history. how people first came to settle down, why people chose to settle in chicago, how the population exploded, the great fire, why chicago is actually 11th most windy despite being called the windy city, architectural shift/movement into the city after the great fire, and a bunch of other cool interesting stuff. we also took a group pic in front of the chicago theatre which was pretty nice. we finished the tour 90 minutes later at the chicago culture center. the tour guide concluded the tour and most of us gave him some money (since he does this completely for free). we gave him a $20 bill and then went upstairs to look at the cultural center upstairs. there was a cool ceiling thing at the top and we took some pics
- we had put ourselves on the waitlist for wildberry since it was nearby halfway through the tour so that we’d be ready by the time it was finished. it was perfect timing cause after we looked around the cultural center, around 12pm, we were called so we walked over a few blocks to wildberry
- wildberry was sooooo good. zac and i got skillet + pancakes and jwoos got omelette + pancakes. jwoos finished his whole meal, i had some skillet left and finished the pancakes, zac had some pancakes and some skillet left. it was soo filling. we had some cool conversations about what zac listened to in a podcast, like how airbnb tried to find a way to make a memorable experience, masters of scale with reid hoffman podcast, zac and jwoos experience with museum/modern art exhibits, and other stuff. it was a good time
- we walked around millenium park and took pics / videos in front of the bean. then walked around the theatre, then to the other side where there was a play garden playground. we looked at the city from that area, stopped by the playground, then ubered over to willis tower
- once we got there, the person at the entrance said the visibility is... zero. LMAOO. zac and jwoos needed to use the bathroom though so we checked in through security and i waited for them. there was like no line there at all, completely empty probably cause it was superbowl sunday
- we decided to skip on sky deck today and try our luck tomorrow, cause no point in paying and seeing just straight up fog
- walked eastward back to where we started the tour. there were some frango chocolates that our tour guide showed us in a macy’s. but we forgot to go back and buy them. so we walked along michigan ave and the river front, basically all the way up north, then turned east towards that macy’s. it was a nice walk, some parts allowed us to walk down right next to the river. and we got to see the cool petal like building too
- stopped by the macy’s to pick up the chocolate and then hang out at a starbucks downstairs. my throat started feeling kind of sore from the skillet food, probably cause it was oily/fried. so i got some hot water to hopefully cancel it out/not get sick further. we hung out there for maybe an hour from 3-4pm
- we continued walking along michigan ave towards navy pier, seeing the chicago tribune, apple store, then navy pier. once we got to the navy pier, i took some videos of the city with my drone and it was super cool cause the lake was completely frozen and blue, and it was a dank view. my drone said it was out of battery after like 10 minutes of flying... i thought i charged it before leaving but i guess maybe the cold/wind made it deteriorate faster
we walked to the edge of the pier, and it legit looked like the arctic cause most of the ocean side was frozen
- then we walked inside the navy pier area to recharge the drone battery and also recollect ourselves. it had turned dark by the time we walked the pier (in like 10 minutes) and it suddenly got really cold
- went to giordano’s to eat some deep dish pizza. we put in our order around 6:30pm then got it around 7pm. it takes a long time to make deep dish pizza. we just kind of hung around and watched the super bowl play on the TV. then the half time show started right around when our pizza came out. it was 3-0 while we were watching most of the game while we were at the restaurant. but we later found out the pats won against rams 13-3. the pizza was pretty solid, we split a small so we got two slices per person
- once we finished eating, we went back out to the pier and i took some more drone footage with my newly charged battery. got some dank views of the city from the pier side at night with the lights on. jwoos also flew the drone for a bit (low to the ground in front of us) just to try it out cause he’s thinking about potentially getting one
- we took an uber to chinatown to get boba and look around the surrounding area. we walked around for like 30 minutes, looking at the chinatown ish part, then the street with the gate. then went back to the chinatown ish part and got boba at saint alp’s tea house. i got some warm black milk tea and we just kind of hung out and chilled on our phones. we were all so drained and tired
- zac took the subway back to his campus and jwoos and i ubered back to our airbnb around 10pm, getting back around 10:30pm
we both just showered and now we’re chilling in the living room. i’m dumping today’s footage from my camera onto my laptop as i’m writing this and jwoos is editing some photos. it’s 11:45pm as i’m writing this
whew what a long day. but it’s been fun :D
the end
