#for my own curiosity#i learned cursive in elementary school but didnt really use it for most of my life#this past summer i made an effort to brush up on it and now it's my default#people say i have nice handwriting sometimes but i dont think my cursive is particularly clean. more so that it's just fancier than print#i know schools dont teach it as often anymore but i wonder what the general population is like on it#this is all contextualized by me being american and writing in english of course

alright alright alright check this out
ARMY BRAT SHIRO
(this is all based on that he moved from the U.S. to wherever, then back again. just because that’s what i’ve done and i have Experience with)
at first he was in love with travelling.
he was pretty young when he started (maybe like 4 or 5?) and so of COURSE going somewhere new is exciting and adjsahdlasdfhaljf
but after the third move, packing is a hassle and plane rides are long, boring, and annoying. (not to mention that he found out the hard way that not all swanky hotels are clean and bedbug free.)
eventually he stopped putting posters up since they would just get taken down sooner or later
he stopped buying knick-knacks and souvenirs because they would probably get lost when they get shipped to the next place anyway.
he DID end up becoming very independent at an early age because...
once ur parent goes to their 6 am P.T. and u have to walk about half a mile from ur house to ur bus stop, u stop being scared. plus, ur about as safe as u can get once ur on base.
and sure he liked to walk around the new country. maybe taste some local cuisine, or check out the hot-spot tourist attractions. but eventually it all kind of blends together...
taking all those pictures takes up too much phone space anyway ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
shiro has a few gaps in learning from moving so much. he doesn’t know cursive (which wasn’t as big of a deal as his elementary school teachers made it)
he’s remarkably good at trigonometry, but sucks at geometry (how??? beats me)
host nation was something he D R E A D E D
moving to the U.S. was awful school-wise because ????
they have like zero breaks here. he’s used to having a day off like every two weeks.
(also im totally pulling from my own life here but) he almost got kicked out for truancy once because he’d skipped so many days.
fortunately, he made good enough grades that the school eventually dropped the issue.
but it was also hilarious because he moved from a cold climate to a hot climate and
it rained heavily once and they closed school for a week. there was once a snowflake in the air (GLOBAL WARMING) and every. single. road. closed.
during the winter months he was the only one with a good coat and boots.
his friends bundled around him like a space heater whenever he had to catch the bus
SPEAKING OF FRIENDS:
he’s learned to make friends fast but also to let go of them quickly because who knows when you have to move next
but also because of this he’s always felt like he’s Missing Out on all the good stuff. he never really went to sleepovers because his friends probably lived in a different housing district than he did. he probably also lived off-base tbh
he’s always the New Kid, which isn’t a bad thing usually but he never really gets to connect with people at the school like those who’ve been there from elementary and will probably be there until high school, too.
and also SPEAKING OF BUSES:
american school buses are??? so Strict.
back in [insert country here], the kids could run up and down the aisles and the bus driver didnt give a flying hoot as long as they didn’t fly out a window.
alsO
he’s hella spoiled because he always got whatever he wanted because his family always had money to blow
shiro finding those aafes catalogs from maybe three years ago tucked away in a box in storage and being able to find those exact same items in the one on base
note that this was THREE YEARS LATER, and he’d moved like twice by then. to a different continent.
shiro always asking for a military discount wherever he goes, because his military I.D. is still good for two years, so why not?
whenever someone asks his favorite place in [insert country name here], he shrugs. most people take it as ‘there was so much, i loved it all’ but it’s actually ‘the bowling alley on base because their chicken wings should be iLLEGAL’
this got way longer than i meant it to and i’d like to apologize but also please add more if u want love u bye
