hello I keep seeing u talk ab loving skybound but I'm curious as to why u love it, and would LOVE to read a super in-depth explanation bc im kinda a skybound notliker and ik uve changed my mind on certain thigns ab this show b4, and I was hoping u cld do it again !!! :DDD /gen

first of all let me say i do think skybound is a BAD season. having the characters suddenly all be sexist out of nowhere to drive plot is stupidddd and so is having a retcon ending that makes it all redundant except for Jaya Canon Now. i think thats mostly what makes the fandom not like it. BUT. i think its sooo interesting for like so many reasons also

i think s8 is considered the darkest season which is fair. but skybound also has a crazyyy amount of dark and DEEPLY interesting things it touches on. the ninja disappearing one by one. jays birth father being his favourite actor. jay torture. jaya actually being interesting!! lets talk abt these.

having the ninja slowly be cut out of the season is GREAT for not only building tension but also being able to more deeply build upon jay and nyas characters (and their relationship). the 22 min format means that some characters (like wu and kai) are gone for AGES. which is sad for kai fans but greatttt for the season. it rlly makes u feel their absence, and some of their disappearances are scary!! zane trying to outsmart nadakhan but realising too late hes been tricked... AHH!!!

if you compare this to how they did it in s12 its a lot more impactful as theres more time for the characters to... be gone. and the videogame nature rlly does take away a lot of the tension IMO. if jays mothers had been in prime empire like planned.... it would have been a GREAT parallel i think but as it is its just kind of odd. thats another convo tho lol (altho there issss the mention of jay being adopted at the end. very interesting [it goes nowhere])

i literally think abt jay adoption arc every god damn day of my life. ill try to explain this without getting too deep into my personal sicko hcs lol. first you get a rlly nice callback to s1 w jay being ashamed of his parents and living in a junkyard only to realise how litte he cares once theyre threatened. thennn you have the whole situation at cliffs house. jay finds out the man who abandoned him at birth (possibly? we dont know details) is the actor for fritz donnegan. the same character who jay imitated and aspired to be like. and then he realises his father felt the same admiration towards jay!! and they both never knew!!!

i think this twist is what makes a lot of jays behaviour in s6.... not excusable... but understandable. jay is shown to be insecure and have weird fucking ways of coping with this (lying. lying lying all the time) and so it kinda feels natural that his way of coping with this information would be to 1. hide the fact he made wishes 2. try to imitate his father through his book and 3. Never Speak Of This Again.

speaking of that lets talk about jay being tortured. can we talk about that?? they FUCKED him up. but the most important part out of allll of it is a character trait i rarely see ppl attribute to jay even though its like... pretty consistent for him. is his willpower!! hes able to endure days of torture to the point where he can barely walk and talk at the end of it just to stop nadakhan from gaining more power

nadakhan also directly points out jays insecurities and how they make him lie to his friends... and jays able to show some of his smarts thru trying to get flintlocke to stage a mutiny! honestly the whole episode is so damn interesting it makes me SEETHE its not more talked abt LOL

i wont get into my insanely complex jaya opinions rn but i will say s6 has one of the most interesting depictions of the ship to me. nya being reluctant to date jay due to being seen simply as his girlfriend is soooo interesting and fits well w her arc of not wanting to give up her own deal w sam x to become a ninja. its just a shame they had to retroactively make everyone misogynistic to do so lolol... and the ending w jays wish Potentially forcing them together is soooo odd and kinda goes what the rest of the season was setting up for them. THIS IS MAINLY why i think ppl hate this season. cus it sets up SOOO much cool stuff and then drops it all last second

i think the things that could have saved skybound from being so hated would be

1. do the same plotpoints w nya but dont drag the ninja AND DARETH into it ..... make them supportive of her!

2. makes jays final wish have some FUCKING consequence! you could do a LOT with how he worded it to twist it badly (im a nadakhan return truther for life)

3. not dropping every single intersting character trait ever. and also not dropping the GOD DAMN ADOPTION ARCCCCCC and also not revealing jay to be so crushingly insecure he physically cannot stop himself from lying to ppl and putting on a happy mask and then turn him into a one note comic relief character. [becoming a soulless husk]

LOL i realise this sounds now like i hate skybound I DONT i just think its very flawed. BUT thats whyyyy i love it... because its so interesting! its flawed in a way like "there is soooo much i cld do w this" and not like "i dont care about any of this its so bad". w ninjago my fav parts have always been the weird icky edgy parts that are almost too much for what it is... which is a childrens lego show. ik they cld never have done most of the interesting stuff i imagine coming out of skybound and thats ok! bc i get to think abt it evilly.

tips to make ur ed less miserable !!

- don't worry about every single calorie you consume, I promise 50 extra calories is not going to ruin your progress

- don't spend every second of every day counting calories and worrying about how much you have left to eat within your limit every day it's just exhausting. instead of tracking your calories in mfp or whatever app you use try making a rough estimate of how much you ate halfway through the day to see how much you have left and try not to worry about it afterwards

- don't spend an inordinate amount of time body checking I promise your arms did not get bigger after looking away for two seconds

- don't low restrict, your hair will fall out and it'll take forEVER to grow back if you ever try to recover and I know you might like the brain fog and dizziness and general sick feeling but I promise u it's so much better to not feel like ur gonna die any second,, plus if u low restrict you'll seriously fuck up ur metabolism n it's just not worth it

- I can't stop u from restricting so if you must, try high restricting (your definition might vary depending on who u are but definitely try eating over 1200) now I know that sounds horrifying, trust me I used to cry every time I ate that much but honestly now it seems like not enough food bc guess what? It's Not enough food !!!

- plus if u high restrict it's so much easier and u can get away w it way easier in front of family/friends

- and I know this is gross but I feel like we don't talk abt it enough - if u high restrict u won't be so horribly constipated !! :)

- which leads me into my next point - don't abuse laxatives pls u'll become dependent on them or u'll shit urself or any number of horrible consequences. If u need something to help u make a bm, eat some fruit, drink a lot of water, drink some coffee, and/or do some light exercise if u have the energy to <3

- I know how badly a lot of u want to be literal skeletons but do u ever think abt how when ur that thin ur asshole is literally out bc u don't have any ass fat?? I know I'm talking abt ass related things a lot but I'm trying to de-glamorize this illness bc it's not glamorous it's fucking gross.

- also when ur that thin it really is painful. satoshis hands a rly big with thick fingers and calloused skin, short neatly trimmed nails that he is constantly picking soil out of. he has a binch of tiny scars from his years of yardwork and cooking bc hes stubborn and insists that gardening w gloves isnt as fun and cooking q gloves on is Weird?????? hes like a walking forest of human hair and his hands arent an exception, the backs f his hands and his knuckles have thick black hair. The way he touches things w his hands tho is suuuuuuuuper gentle?? he touches people like they were made of glass, and his fingers are rly nimble?? he used to play the piano a lot (one of the reasons masa got into music lol) and he cracks his knuckles only when he's stressed. he only wears the finest leather gloves bc hes bougie

milagro does just as much manual work as satoshi does but her hands are Significantly nicer, bc shes always putting on lotion lol. her hands arent small but theyre like. fat. and the softest hands on the planet, probably. she always has a rly nice manicure done, and she clicks her acrylics on surfaces all the time w/o realizing it?? she bites her knuckles a lot when shes mad or stressed and shes managed to break skin more than once and shes prone to getting paper cuts all the time??? she never fucking learns how to properly hold paper?? her hands get sweaty rly rly quick and its kinda gross but masas never even Once complained abt it.

yasus hands are big for her frame and she doesnt like that so she hides them behind rly delicate frilly girly gloves?? she's a seamstress and her finger tips are calloused and the skin there is so thick she can stick a needle through it w/o feeling anything and masa h a t e s when she does that bc it makes her want to Die, but yasu thinks its super cool. she has rly long natural nails and repaints them every other day (or gets masa to paint them for her bc masas 10000000000x better at it) and she overuses alcohol hand sanitizer wayyyyyyy too much so her skin gets rly dry and irritated, so she like. fucking bathes her hands in heavily perfumed lotions?? she pops her knuckles all the fucking time and wont stop until her fingers ache

catriona could be a hand model if she wanted to. her fingers are long and elegant and shes never had to do physical labor a single day in her life so her hands are flawless?? she never moisturizes but her hands are still nice and supple and beautiful. and always covered in ink. she only gets her nails done when she has a social function to attend, and she just does basic french tips or solid colors. when her hair is down she is constantly combing through it w her fingers, and she gently picks out all the knots every morning instead or ripping through them. she clenches her hands a lot and when shes rly pissed she leaves deep marks in her palms.  her grip is strong and she throws things around carelessly, and she tends to pinch izzy a lot w/o realizing it?? like whenever she wants to get izzys attention she just. pinch the back or her arm or smth and izzy hates it.

izzys hands are actually a Very Normal size but shes so fucking Huge And Beefy that her hands end up looking like baby hands in comparison to the rest of her. her fingers and knuckles are rly calloused bc she exerts all her frustration via housework or punching things lmao. shes got a lot of freckles on the back of her hands but only a few on her palms??? she can count them. her nails are super super short but bc she cuts them, not bc shes a nail biter. izzy doesnt wring her hands but she like, interlocks her fingers and squeezes them rly hard when shes stressed. she doesnt rly touch people, unless she feels super comfortable around them?? one of her favorite things in the world is holding hands w people???? like catriona, she constantly runs her fingers through her hair, even when her hair is shorn off. she tends to hide behind her hands a lot?? when she smiles, when shes sad, when shes mad, etc. also whenever she DOES touch ppl shes super delicate?? shes ready to pull back her hands at the drop of a pin. also her hands have always just. been super fucking strong. she packs a lot of punch, literally. shes also super dexterous?? she never played an instrument in her youth, but in the empire she picks up the guitar and is p good at it rly quick?? and she is A Master cake decorator?? her piping is Amazing and she makes it look absolutely flawless. she Absolutely sucks at hand jobs tho bc shes always too rough bc shes Too into it. as an adult shes wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more touchy touchy Especially with her children?? shes always touching them, always fixing their hair and gently squishing their cheeks and poking their bellies and tickling them and trying to pry small toys out of their grimy disgusting mouths. and shes SUPER hands on in the military, she v quickly learns how to handle a wide range of weapons, but if theyre ever torn out of her hands she is Ready to use her Fists and She Will Win. also special note, she cannot stop touching her wife. she  subconsciously reaches out to touch her at all times, even if its just a light fingertip touch

so like??  if u think the kiddos react poorly when its kara that’s hurt, i need ya to remember that they’re still pretty confident that kara will always walk away from a fight in one piece.  like she might get hurt??  but they (perhaps a lil naively) dont think that kara’s rlly ever going to be Hurt.  like they’re terrified in the moment, but it doesn’t like??  stick i guess??  i guess it’s sort of like…….she’s a superhero, danger sort of comes with it and kara’s careful and she’s like???  invincible??  one time stella gets rlly scared for her, so maia gets the idea to prove that they cant get hurt and bends like all of the kitchen knives trying to stab her hand so like…thats what’s in the kiddos’ heads when kara goes off to save the city/world.  bent kitchen knives and stella’s laughter and maia’s grin and finn rolling his eyes but going alone with it, holding his hand over open flame to prove he can’t get burned

but lena??  lena is terrifyingly human.  lena can burn and bruise and bleed and each kiddo has their own relationship to that, like finn cries and frets and maia seethes and rages and stella worries and plans (mind u, stella probably is the most……not ok with it, but she’s the most comfortable with lena’s vulnerability if only bc she’s just as vulnerable, often has a similar target on her back from lex/lillian bc she’s the most easily hurt of the kiddos??)

god they dont handle lena being in danger well At All and they handle her being hurt even worse, bc like??  she doesn’t heal as fast as kara, she heals at a human rate and there’s no magic sun lamp to make her all better

like when the kiddos are p young (like finn’s eleven or so) lena gets in a minor car accident and breaks her wrist and they all sort of freak the fuck out and that first day after she’s released from the er, she’s taking pain killers and is sort of just lazing around and taking it easy and the kiddos wont leave her side, like kara runs out to pick up dinner and the kids r sort of hovering around lena, pretending like theyre doing their own things, but when she comes back, they’ve all just cuddled up to her on the couch and maia’s carefully painting the nails on lena’s injured hand and stella’s fallen asleep on lena’s lap and finn’s tucked up against lena’s good side and they dont rlly move for the rest of the night tbh

i would say they have a p good grasp of the sort of threats against lena, like they grew up knowing how to behave in panic rooms and learned several emergency drills as part of their routine and saw lena hurt, threatened more times than they’d ever like to remember.  they react as well as can be expected from kids in that sort of situation, and it helps a lot that their moms r so good and rlly work to make sure they feel safe as much as possible and try and assure them as best they can

but like??  they’re all so protective of lena, they rlly are, and unfortunately they have good reason to be.  she’s on several ppl’s shit list tbh, and there are a fair few attempts on her life within the kids’ memories, like stella was there for several just bc she generally spends more time around lena and every single time resulted in her refusing to leave lena’s side for weeks after the fact.  she just Will Not, like when she’s older and has to go to school, she is just constantly texting lena and like normally lena would tell her to stop, she needs to pay attention in class, but she also saw stella all but wailing in kara’s arms when lena got loaded into the ambulance so maybe she writes a note for stella’s teachers asking that they excuse her texting for a couple weeks

finn like…..idk its not like he feels like As the Man of the House he needs to protect all the girls in his life bc thats ridiculous and ignores their agency and his mamas raised him right, but he grew up watching kara protect their family, their city, the earth and he carries those instincts rlly deep in him and like he worries abt everyone, he’s such a worrier, but its different for maia and for kara and its even different for stella, bc stella at least has powers, can sense things, but lena is???  completely human????  

and the first time he’s fully aware of this is when he’s three and his little sister is still so small and round and giggly and he had a stomach ache so lena calls out from work, tells jess to push her meetings so she can stay home and she’s put maia down for a nap and is coming in to check on him when he hears her scream from down the hall and like??  u know how little kids dont necessarily know when bad shits going down, but they Know??  well he knows.  

so finn forgets all abt how his tummy hurts and runs as fast as he can and he’s rounding the hall just as kara barrels through a window, shoves him into the bathroom and pulls the door closed, but he saw lena on the floor, face twisted in pain with blood at her temple, oozing sluggishly from her shoulder and down her arm, saw the masked man that stood over her

he doesnt rlly ever forget that.  the memory fades a little, dulls over time, but he has a lot of nightmares abt it, can’t completely put it behind him bc it was the first time he realized his mommy wasnt the same as his mama, wasnt as strong, wasnt as safe

it’s rlly bad for almost half a year after that, like he has nightmares more often than he doesnt and ends up in kara and lena’s bed most nights after waking up sobbing

when he gets older he sort of??  he doesn’t outgrow that bone deep fear, but it gets channeled into different avenues i guess

the first time maia ever has to confront that shit, she’s eight and its the assassination attempt from sun is gonna shine above and she’s never??  realized???  like she saw lena with a broken wrist and she’s seen her sick and so on and so forth so she’s got a grasp on the fact that lena’s human, not quite so invulnerable, but she’s never rlly understood what the consequences of that might mean??  but then they’re all sprawled on the floor of the deo and finn’s wailing into kara’s arms abt how he thought they were dead and she looks at lena and she looks at stella and she looks at kara and she’s terrified suddenly and she starts to cry and it all becomes a blur after that but then it’s a couple weeks later and she’s finally processed a little and she sort of scares her moms bc she crawls into their bed one night very late and asks very seriously if lena’s going to die

and like???  shit what are you supposed to say when your eight year old asks if you’re going to die???  jesus, there was no chapter abt this in literally any parenting book either of them have ever read

they explain it as best they can, that there are some very bad people in the world and they dont like lena very much and sometimes they want to hurt lena, but kara’s quick to remind maia that they’re all very safe and that she and aunt alex and uncle james and everyone at the deo work rlly hard to make sure they all stay safe but maia’s sort of changed after that??

and like…..her anger isnt from this one flashpoint alone, but it is a launching point.  like??  her mom is so kind and loving and soft, why would anyone want to hurt her??  why should the world allow her to get hurt???  it’s not fair.  so maia gets angry and she stays angry and she takes it out on bad ppl that hurt her family, takes it out on bad ppl that try to hurt lena and the difference btwn how she reacts with kara and how she reacts with lena is that she never, never says a word of it to lena, she refuses, bc if she does that, she’s admitting she’s scared that lena’s going to get taken from them, she’s admitting that lena’s human, that she’s mortal, that she can bleed and die and maia’s not willing to admit that

stella is probably the kiddo that never rlly has the realization bc its so ingrained in her like and i dont mean this in a bad way but there’s this understanding that where kara and finn and maia are alike, stella and lena are alike and stella understands that she’s not as strong as her siblings so it makes sense that lena’s not as strong as them either, u know??  it doesnt come as a surprise or anything and her powers mean that the threats to her mother dont come as a surprise either, bc by the time she’s registered what those threats rlly mean, she’s already been living with the reality of them for years

and ive said this a bunch but stella responds by becoming lena’s shadow tbh, she just sticks even closer to her mom and freaks out when she can’t bc she feels rlly powerless???  she cant help kara, but that makes sense, bc stella’s not the same as kara??  but she’s like lena and she can’t help her either, so what good is she to anyone, what use is she, how does she deserve her mothers

and to be fair, most of these feelings arent hers alone, bc when she gets sad or angry or hurts, its a lot easier for her to sort of take on negative emotions from the rest of the world, so it sort of spirals but that is the reality of it, she’s sad and she’s scared and she refuses to let lena out of her sight every time lena gets threatened or hurt

Can you explain why your OTP is Jongyu and Jongtae? I like reading people's explanations about their OTP. I think they're both very supportive ships.

i’d love to give u those big long paragraphs that ppl normally do when asked this but im kind of tired and my head hurts so this probably wont be that great.

but!! its simplest to just say i like the dynamic w both ships respectively. i like how soft and supportive jinki is towards jjong. even when theyre playful theyre both just v gentle about it u know?? like theyre so cozy together theyre the definition of friday movie night cuddling. theyre v different ppl in the sense that jjong is a lot more willing to be open than jinki often is. jonghyun is a very expressive person and hes forthcoming about a lot of his feelings whereas jinki typically isnt. this contrast is interest to explore as a dynamic for lots of reasons like a) i think jjongs Openness about his feelings can draw out some openness and willingness to communicate more freely from jinki as well and b) in a lot of situations (like when hes crying) u can see jjong go over to jinki for Comfort nd its nice to see jinki validate and take care of jjong often. there was also that time where jinki was all i just want to show the World how cute jjong is and i lov that its so lovely and Soft. jinki is a really validating and encouraging sort of person and jjong Appreciates being validated and encouraged. jinki is a really layered and difficult to understand person imo i think theres a Lot of him that he doesnt share. 

and i love jongtaes dynamic too!! i feel like jongtae are the type to stay up all night and monologue to each other about various interests and get Incredibly existential at like 4 am. theyre also quite clearly amazing friends. its pretty easy to see how much jjong wants taemin to Succeed bc hes always going on about being taemins Number One Fan but even if taemin is less vocal about things, he quite clearly cares a lot about him as well. like when he talks about jjong and hes well aware of all his habits and says things like ‘he makes it hard to hate him.’ he verbalizes it less than jjong but he shows it through his actions. taemin also playfully teases him a lot (when hes not getting called out for being a Messy Disaster) and i think thats always fun. i think something about taemins ultimate sloppy shitpost self and jonghyuns dainty precise princess self works rly well when its put together. theres just enough affectionate playfulness and capability to have Deep Serious Life Conversations from them. theyre also willing to understand each others weirdness and support them even if theyre Weird in different ways.  like jongyu, theyre also pretty different in how they express themselves, and what theyre looking for that constitutes Emotional Fulfillment which i think is the core of what makes a lot of dynamics interesting. 

i hope this was enough rambling sdfkjsdf but its always fun to try and articulate why ur drawn to certain ships. ty this was pretty fun to talk about!
