hae in saying she was threatened by the idea of hyun woo being falsely accused. her husband. home girl could've said she didn't want to work with eun sung because he does things like falsely accuse people, but she made it personal -- a big f u to eun sung and a declaration to hyun woo. as someone who doesn't always use her words, this was very specific.

This is definitely reading too much into Tony and Tom so feel free to disagree... BUT I've been thinking about it a lot and I gotta ramble a bit.
Tony is portrayed as a very stoic man, who deeply loves his wife and daughter(s, because sometimes he has two). Whether or not he actually IS, is up for debate, but there's no doubt that's how Tom wants to PORTRAY him.
There's a bit in the Mind Cage that I think is supposed to show this. Idra says that Annie is "spoiled" because her dad *wasn't* there to "set her straight"--and Jones and Anja both semi-agree! (What the fuck Anja!) Parents aren't supposed to "set you straight", they're supposed to teach you how to be a functional human being *before* you fuck up so bad you need to be set straight. Of course Annie was unruly and headstrong--a child who grew up playing with ghosts in the hospital would have a hard time adjusting to a regular school, even with an alive mom and present dad. But she didn't have that. So, she was allowed to run wild, and then when Tony returned, he had to "set her straight"... by immediately humiliating her in front of her friends (the people who were ACTUALLY THERE FOR HER AFTER HER MOM DIED), and he was just casually cruel in a way he didn't have to be.
But anyway. It brings to mind the stereotype of the stoic British father, who is silent and stern and stone faced, but still have love for their kids, and show it through actions the kids are meant to interpret, rather than words that the kids can understand. These dads don't cuddle their kids or call them poppet, but they will bandage their foot (stoically, with their face away from their child) while their kid gently tugs on their shirt. They'll sternly say "wipe off that makeup!" in front of your peers and embarrass you, but that's because he was taken off guard and he feels bad about it :( But they love you, don't you know that? You don't need to hear it, just feel it. And an apology is ridiculous, you already know they feel bad, don't you?
(And I don't care he has his mind cage on around Annie, he can and does say sentences to her. Or he could have said something to the Annie he opened up to! He doesn't have to cry, just fucking say "I'm sorry"!!! Dude!!!)
Tom has never seemed to care about whether people think his characters are good people. Like, he didn't make a chapter explaining how Zimmy and Gamma's relationship is Good, Actually--he just said "they're happy together and their feelings are requited and that's all there is to it". And he didn't feel the need to defend Paz and Kat's relationship, either; they were just two girls who were in a regular high school romance. They just are, and if people raise criticisms, founded or unfounded, he goes "eh, whatevs, it's my comic" and let's it roll off his back. But Tony? Tony gets a whole chapter where his abuse victim stands up and says "I don't care if he continues to neglect and abuse me, because I will always stay by his side and enable his mental dysfunction, rather than setting boundaries."
And I'm just stuck with "why". Why is Tom so protective of the fan's perception of Tony, rather than Annie or Zimmy or Kat?
And the answer I came to is... I wonder if Tony based off of Tom's dad? I don't think it's an exact one to one, because Tony is a fictional character and is exaggerated in ways real life people can never be (like, there's aspects of autism alluded to in Mind Cage, but it's not... realistic). But I wonder if Tom also had a relationship like "my dad only seems emotionally distant, but he actually loves his kid(s) a lot, he just has trouble showing it".
Tom (as far as we know) was never a high school girl in a relationship with another girl, nor was he tormented by hallucinations of monsters that could only be dispelled by his lover/friend/therapist/emotional crutch, and he was also (hopefully) not in a sexually/romantically charged relationship with an immeasurable age gap (ex Jones and Eglamore, Ysengrin/Jerrick and Annie). So if people complain, it's whatever to him. But, if Tony was based on his dad, then it's understandable why people pointing out the faults of Tony hit a bit closer to home for him.
But also maybe I'm wrong. I don't know Tom nor his family, nor do I really want to. This specific thing just stuck out to me because one of the things I always admired about Tom was how much he said "I don't care what the fans say, this is my comic and my characters, and you guys can take it or leave it". But then the Mind Cage seems like the complete opposite of that philosophy, where he makes all the characters spell out why Tony is a good dad. So it got stuck in my craw a bit, why there was this 180.
But I also could be wrong! We'll probably never know.
All so true! Thanks for this thoughtful ask. I think there actually was some point where Tom said outright that Tony is based off either his dad or himself? Even if not, I think you’re probably right on the money. Everything makes perfect sense if the author sees Tony as less of a character and more of an avatar of a real person he knows.

Hello, Purva bhadrapada, Leo stellium native here, I also wanted to add that I think purva bhadrapada, since it is Brahmin caste is probably more prone to this, then punarvasu and finally vishaka, who in my experience is the most materially/self interested Jupiter nakshatra, which is why we see it in so many celebrities compared to the other two, especially purva bhadrapada.
I've always been at the role of teacher/smart one since I was a little girl, I've always been a bit parentified and I think that comes out a lot in my relationships with nodals, since I'm the one who has to keep things in control, now that we are on the topic, I'm gonna trauma dump about my Magha sun, mula moon friend 😭
I don't want to bad mouth her since I do still have affection for her, but this woman put me through so much. One time she face timed me whilst she was drinking, she got so drunk and then started driving! She face timed me whilst she was drunk driving talking about how sad she was, all whilst I could hear all the dangerous turns she was making, so I called her mom to come get her, I couldn't do it myself cause I live too far away. The next day she wouldn't stop complaining about how pissed she was that I called her mom on her, talking about how she got in trouble, but what was I supposed to do? WATCH HER DIE ON CAMERA?! She made me the villain and not our other friend who she also face timed, who is also nodal.
Another time, she was dating this dude and SHE ALWAYS DID WHATEVER HE SAID FOR NO REASON, one time we were all hanging out as friends, a whole ass group of people, and this girl started sucking this mans dick in front of us 💀😭 like they were not slick in the slightest, I caught sight of it and then I tried to politely tell them to stop before the others noticed, she did not stop and others caught them, to which they all collectively said "Wtf? Stop please" AND THEN SHE COMPLAINED TO ME ABOUT THIS? HOW DO YOU WANT ME TO TAKE YOUR SIDE? 💀
Another time, I was really busy with some work but she texted me about how suicidal she was feeling and how she wanted to attempt, I stayed with her the whole night trying to talk her out of it until she just stopped talking to me all together, I panicked and spent hours debating whether to call someone, since I don't know if she really attempted something, but I didn't want her to be mad at me again. It was one of the most anxious nights of my life. Eventually, she called me and said she was fine 💀 I SPENT ALL THAT TIME WORRIED AND SHE DIDNT SAY ANYTHING! that was my breaking point and I just cut contact with her after that
The worst part of all of this is that she never took any interest in my emotions or any of the problems I had, in all the years of friendship we had I only opened up to her twice and I regretted it immensely both times. She never took any time to take care of me, and would always accuse me of telling her what to do after giving her advice THAT SHE ASKED FOR!
Anyway 💀 yeah it was traumatizing
💀💀💀💀 I'm glad you've cut her out
My Swati Sun, Magha Rising ex was somewhat like this. He texted me saying he's having a panic attack and does not know what to do (at like midnight) and then after I text & call him mad worried, he does not respond. He texts me back the next day afternoon saying that "it was just a spur of the moment thing, I'm alright" like wtf??? He always kept me on edge with his mental health stuff and I was always made to feel like I'm on suicide watch only for him to turn around and be like "oh I'm over it now bc I've drunk away the last thought I had in my head"
He once video called me at 8 in the fucking morning because he wanted company while he smoked
Let me just say that there was a clear imbalance in our relationship bc I had to watch out for him while he did batshit stuff and I could never do the things he did and expect him to have played the supportive role 😒
There was another Magha Moon girl I used to know who completely did unhinged shit, she jumped from man to man every week (not slut shaming, just pointing out poor choices) in India, the arranged marriage system prevails and she received a proposal from some 5'2 30 yr old (when we were like 21) who was loaded 💸and her family rejected the proposal and she was already dating some deadbeat loser. Guess what she did after she broke up with the deadbeat loser many months later?? She started talking to the 30yr old guy who came to her house with a marriage proposal 😭and literally 2-3 weeks later he publicly announced his desire to marry her at the wedding of a mutual relative and she said "I'm not interested in marrying you" PUBLICLY, it was super shameful for the families and all parties involved bc like ??? what on earth was she thinking??? he made his intentions clear from the get go??? did she think she could hook up and rebound with the guy who contacted her family with a goddamn marriage proposal??? and she played the victim when in reality throughout their 3 week tryst she led him on and on and on, why didn't she say she would never ever marry someone like him?? so embarrassing lol
There was a Magha Moon guy who I had mutual friends with and he's a complete deadbeat loser. He hasn't finished his degree (he was my senior at uni) he's broke as hell and all he does is go on road trips and drink till he drops and he had the audacity to ask my friends if I'd be interested in seeing him and I was like 🤢🤮ew no and he literally repeated this process every month no joke. He's asked me out more times than I can count, he's made our friends ask me on his behalf a billion times and I'm like ??? how oblivious or lacking in self awareness do you have to be?? He always told them that he thought I was "hiding" my interest in him 🤮🤢🤭so idk I feel like Nodals can be supremely delulu

this whole time had been exhilarating for dixie. she loved being there for brock, cheering for him from the box, bragging about his wins, celebrating each time. but she could tell the nerves were getting to him, the uncertainty even though things were looking up, they never knew when the tides might change. so she blocked off her time, promising to work double time in the studio when she was back, but brock had been there for her so many times, she wanted nothing more than to be there for him.
though, she attributed it to the traveling between each game, dixie had been feeling off. she couldn't quite explain it, it wasn't exactly sick but...maybe it was just exhaustion. that day she decided to rest in the hotel (which turned into song writing sessions, her producer would be happy), when the realization hit her. she hadn't had her period yet, and she was a few weeks late.
calling down for the front desk for a test - she didn't want to face random fans finding her at cvs - brock let her know he was coming back and her heart soared. she had just been delivered the tests and taken them, was currently waiting on the results when brock tumbled in.
moving from the bathroom she moved to lay down next to him, wrapping herself close to him. though brock was the most wonderful man she knew, she was nervous to even bring it up. would this throw him off his game? it had been her worst nightmare with her ex-husband. but this was the future dixie wanted with brock, she was just a bit unsure of the timing. "depends on how well you play if you deserve it." she laughs, though of course she'd kiss him after the cup, she just couldn't think about all of the germs. she just nods, as he speaks arms wrapped around his waist, gazing up at him, still debating whether or not she should tell him.
but by this point it was impossible for her to keep anything from him - even surprise parties. "my period is late." is all she got out, eyes searching his for a reaction.
"i'd hope i'd really deserve it." brock teased as he gave her a wink. "one more win and we can go home." as much as he loved playing hockey and being on the road with her, he did miss now getting comfortable in the house that they built together. as he tucked an arm behind his head, he sighed happily before closing his eyes and taking in the moment. when she said that her period was late, he opened one of his eyes and cocked an eyebrow at her. "oh do you know..." he couldn't even finish his sentence when it finally hit him. out of all of his brothers and sisters, he had heard countless stories about how they found out they were pregnant, and here before this huge game finding this out might top them all. he could feel his heart beating in his chest as he looked over at her, feeling a small smile play on his lips. "compared to it being early?" he teased slightly in hopes of making a small joke to hide his nerves.
would this mess up their wedding? her album? everything else that they had planned? his season was almost over but he wanted to make sure that they were both ready for something like this. he rolled over a bit so he could look at her and pushed some of her hair out of her face. "do you think... i mean the last win was pretty special." he teased with another chuckle. "did you take a test or anything like that? shit did people see you?" he didn't even think of keeping things under wraps or what exactly they'd have to do if she was pregnant but she was sure they would cross that bridge when they got there.
as he gave her another smile, he tried his best not to get too excited, since anything could happen. it could have just been late and that was all, or they could have their whole lives changed right in front of them. "whatever happens, i'm right here." he muttered as he kissed her forehead. "i'm not going anywhere, and i am most certainly not naming our kid brock jr." he teased in hopes to make her laugh a bit.
"but i love you a lot, you know that. whatever happens we'll figure it out. we'll go on our own timeline, right?" brock said with a little shrug of his shoulders as the pulled her a little closer. "do you wanna know right now? i do but if you want to wait we can."
it was almost as if dixie predicted the very near future, since brock and his team were able to make it to the finals, and currently they were up in their seven-game series. they only needed one more game to win and then just like she said, he'd be drinking beer out of a very dirty cup and be whisked into a parade. his one request was for her to stay close during the whole series, there wasn't anyone he wanted to spend this time with and celebrate with even if he was as nervous as ever. she was able to calm his nerves especially during the last game which was closer than he'd like it to be.
the practices were longer and harder than any practice previous, but he knew that everyone wanted to perfect their craft. if anyone made even one mistake, they would have to keep clawing back to just get that one win. every now and then he was able to get a quick break to send dixie a text, hoping that she was doing alright by herself. he didn't want to leave her alone, but he knew she probably didn't want to see them during practice. he was exhausted to say the least, he hadn't worked out this hard in such a long time that when they were all finally over, he needed to take a moment to himself. as he opened up his phone, he sent dixie another text letting her know that he was heading back.
BROCK: my legs feel like jello lol BROCK: i'll be back in a minute love you
when he finally had enough strength to move, he headed back to the hotel near the stadium, pushed open their door and flopped on their bed. "i promise i'm clean." he said as his face was buried into one of the pillows. his stomach was twisting and turning about the possible outcome of tomorrow's game but thankfully he was able to relax a bit more now that he was here with dixie. "if we win tomorrow, are you still gonna kiss me after i drink out of the cup?" he teased as he finally rolled over so he was laying on his back. "i'm sorry these practices have been so long, coach just really wants us to make sure that everything's perfect." he said with a little shrug as he finally got comfortable against the bed.
"i gotta head over early again tomorrow, but you can come with me if you want. we're just doing some press stuff before the game and a quick little warm up."

"I'm bored" You mumbled into your palm as you kept your gaze on the papers that were set up in front of you. "It's your fault for trespassing their area, [Name]. You should know by now how strict Dream is with the boundaries of the countries." Wilbur interpreted, his brows furrowing by the second. "They could have killed you."
"I'm sorry, I was just curious" Hearing you apologize, he softened up and groaned. Wil patted your shoulder with a somewhat forced smile before leaving the room. "Make sure to finish brewing the potions by the end of the day. For now," He looked back, nodding his head. "I'll see you around, [Name]."
"You too, Wil" Sighing, you turned to look at the blonde-haired boy who stood awkwardly in the corner. "Well uh, that went well at least!" Slamming your first, you startled Tommy as he shrieked. "I got in trouble in YOUR PLACE-"
"Yeahhhh, about that, I'm sorry!" Tommy shook you by the shoulders, a grin spreading across his face. "I'll make it up to you okay? I'll set you up on a date with Wilbur if it makes you feel any better" Your cheeks darkened, giving the kid a pathetic slap as you covered the bottom half of your face.
"It's really nothing like that. I don't.. like him.." The last part of your sentence was muttered, and as usual, the boy who knew of your feelings let out a hollering laugh. "I knew it! Who would have fucking thought that you'd fall for Wil! Out of all people!"
"LOOK-" You turned to face him, your face getting hotter and hotter the more you thought about it. "I have my reasons okay! He's a good guy, and on top of that, he's an amazing friend"
"An amazing friend you say? He's also one hell of a fucking leader that's for sure. But enough about your crush let's go out and play with Tubbo!" Dismissing him with a single wave, you gave your best sympathetic smile. "Sorry Tommy, but I have to finish brewing these potions by the end of the day. I can't afford to be disciplined by Wil again"
"Hm, whatever, fine" The boy shrugged, leaving you alone. "THIS ISN'T THE END WOMAN! You will join me and Tubbo on our conquest sooner or later!" You chuckled, smiling at his childish behavior. "Yeah, yeah, now go on and have fun"
You can hear him shout out loud, laughing as he tackled what you perceive to be Tubbo. "I never wanna leave" The sentence that slipped out of your mouth caught you off guard. Despite being an outsider to their nation, they treated you with respect and saw you as a member of their group.
Sitting back down, you continued to flip through the pages of the book. Studying the recipes and applying the specific ingredients to each bottle. "Oh shit, I ran out of spider eyes" Cursing, you stood up to walk towards the door, looking out into the hallway. "Niki!" You shouted from your office, capturing the woman's attention. "Yes, [Name]?"
"Do you know if we have any spider eyes left in the chest room? Or have we completely run out of it" She pondered for a second, answering once she finished checking her inventory. "I don't think we have any more spider eyes. I'm also not carrying any with me sadly"
"Oh, that's alright. I can just outside and kill some spiders myself" Pushing yourself forward to one of your chests, you opened it and took some resources. A bow, 10 arrows, and full iron armor apart from your golden shoes. "[Name], you don't need to go out and kill some on your own. It's dangerous at night"
"Exactly, which is why I plan to go to the Piglin market to trade some gold for a few stacks of spider eyes" Niki shook her head in denial, refusing to let you pass by. "That's even more dangerous! We're humans, we can't go inside there unless we have the King's permission. And usually, we'd have knightly escorts to go around with us"
"True, but I can slip in and slip out without being noticed" You shrugged on your hood, a robe that covered your full body apart from your face. "I can hide with this, besides if they aren't able to tell that I'm human they'll never be able to report it to the king"
"Al..right.." The short-haired girl had a troubled expression on her face, but nevertheless, let you pass. "Good luck! Please come home safely" You turned to give her a single nod, a reassuring smile that was enough to calm her down. "I promise, so don't worry about me okay?"
And so you left, walking to the basement of your home where the Nether Portal stood tall. You gulped at the mere sight of it, how mysterious yet alluring. The purple particles only making it look majestic. "beautiful.." You muttered as you slowly entered, the change of temperature really hit you hard. It was hot, humid compared to how it felt in the overworld. "Goddamn how do piglins live like this"
"Shocking, right?" A male voice erupted from the silence, causing you to stiffen. "I'm assuming you're not used to traveling to the Nether." You slowly turned around, only to be met with a man with dirty blonde hair. "Pardon?" You tilted your head, staring at his smiling mask. "Nothing, would you like me to escort you and keep you safe?"
"And what makes you think I'd trust a stranger" You questioned, earning a chuckle from the man. "You're not as dumb as you look. But don't worry you're not my type, I won't do anything."
"WH-" His hand went over your mouth in a flash, he moves fast for a person with netherite armor, and on top of that a black robe. "Keep your voice down, first rule when entering the Nether World is to never bring unnecessary attention to yourself."
"Got it" Your voice was muffled from his large hand, he stepped back before leading the way, making sure that you were tailing right behind him. "The second rule, make sure to always be with somebody. Never travel alone or you'll die in an instant without somebody keeping you safe."
"Safe? Is the Nether really dangerous for you to say that?" Observing his reaction, you realized how sharp his jawline was. You can't peak through the mask but his mouth was fully exposed. "Yes, I take it you've never looked into this dimension?"
"Well, to be fair I've only heard of the Nether. This is my first time actually setting foot into the portal" The man's mouth pulled back into a dumbfounded snarl, almost as if he was silently judging you for your actions. "Weird." Was all he said before nudging you forward. "We're here, keep your guard up. What are you here for exactly?"
"I'm here to trade gold for a few stacks of spider eyes" He sighed, pulling your hood closer to your face. "You do realize you could have killed a few spiders in the overworld without having to come here."
"Uh, not really the best in combat you see" You admitted, darting your attention to the passing piglings who stood at least 5 feet taller than the man leading the way. Their species were large and brute compared to humans, they were cool but dangerous to interact with. "What the hell were you thinking when you decided to come here without somebody to guide you."
"I honestly have no clue" You stared at the man with a blank face, earning a disappointed grunt from him. "Well, turn around Princess because we just arrived at the Mob looting store. Stay out here, I'll get the eyes for you."
"Wait a second- I feel bad you're the one who led me here and protected me-" The man that accompanied you patted your head with one of the most genuine smiles you've ever seen. Despite him being awfully mysterious, he has shown nothing but kindness all throughout your journey. "Don't worry about it. Just stay here and don't run off anywhere. It's even more dangerous inside because piglins tend to fight over items."
Fidgeting with your hands, you finally agreed. The blonde took that as an agreement and stepped into the store. You were left to stay outside, leaning against the wall that was nearest to the door. A few seconds passed, and yet you were still outside waiting. You were beginning to think that the man who you walked with abandoned you.
"Ex..c.." A piglin with long pink hair muttered, his hand reaching for you. "Excu.." You stepped aside, worried that the mob was here to harm you. The more you stared at him the more you realized he was one of them, but one that looked more human. "Is there something you need?" You questioned the man, earning a nod. "What is it?"
"Do you.. Do-" Before he was able to finish his sentence, your eyes widened in realization. You swung your right hand to open your inventory, taking out a gold bar to hand over to him. 'I heard piglins liked gold, maybe he'll leave me alone if I gave him one' Was what you thought as you urged the hybrid to take it.
He looked at you back and forth, debating whether or not he should accept it. "Take it, it's alright I have plenty of where that came from" The man in front of you hesitantly took the gold into his hands, his eyes widening when he realized how shiny and well kept the item was.
"You..-"
"Hey." The man who accompanied you shouted once he exited the shop, pulling out his netherite sword. "Back off."
"Hey wait! He didn't do anything wrong, leave him be" You pushed the blonde male back slightly, apologizing to the other person with a forced smile. "Let's just head back before we get caught!" Turning around, you tangled your fingers with his and ran away, waving the piglin goodbye.
"What are you doing." He asked, narrowing his eyes from under the mask. "You said to keep attention away from us so I am-"
"I wasn't even that loud." You turned to glare at him. "It got a lot of people's attention" The man laughed, swooping you into his arms, and began to speed up his pace. "You're a good listener." He complimented, a smile fighting to break through his irritated expression.
It took time for the two of you to finally reach the same Nether portal from before. The blonde slowly lowered you onto your feet, handing the bag of spider eyes into your chest. "Here, it's heavy so make sure to hold it with both hands."
"Thank you.." You muttered, gladly taking the bag with a smile. "Say, um.. I never caught your name?" Before the man was able to walk away, he turned to look at you one last time before telling you his name. "Clay, the name's clay."
"Clay?"
"I'll see you around." With that, he pushed you into the portal. You fell onto your back once you were transported over to the overworld, lying there with staggering breaths. "I never got to tell him my name though" But once you sat up, the Nether Portal's liquid-like wall disappeared. The particles were being sucked into the middle, and the doorway to hell was disappearing.
"What the..-"
"[NAME!]" You hear your name being called out by what sounds to be Wilbur. Turning to look over your shoulder, you see the whole group running towards you with a worrying expression. "You're back!"

This is a personal opinion but from where I see it the Given movie and the anime itself definitely was... something that I would question because somethings just.. didn't make sense to me. The development of the Characters were either super fast or super slow and it made the pacing really really weird for me idk. But I do think that a huge reason so many people love the Given movie is because of the fact that when you compare Given to OTHER JP BL animes, there's very very slight improvement in terms of the story itself of Given. Is the story poorly executed? Fucking hell, who the hell is going to say no here. But is it better then some of the JP BLs out there? That's depended on how you view BL to be. For a lot of people things like Super Lovers or Hitorijime My Hero are super unbearable to watch because it's "problematic" (which honestly okay, you do you BB) which then leads them to look for BL animes that DON'T have such "themes." Leading them to actually liking things poorly executed but just "not problematic", Given for example.
Given is “not problematic”? Debatable.
Their first kiss was right after Mafuyu finally had a courage to sing a song about his ex who commited a suicide. ???
Problematic doesn’t only mean stuff like “he’s underage”. What about using someone to get over your grief or getting into a relationship with someone who is still not over his ex death and is vulnerable at the moment? Is this suddenly “not problematic” bc they’re same age and he haven’t pushed him into a wall in throws of passion?
To me it’s not even about the fact if it’s problematic or not (it’s rarely not tho, no matter what ppl think), it’s about whether its believable and feels genuine or not. It depends on many factors: situation, characters past, traumas, etc, etc. It depends on the story and how you write it.
Change some stuff and it’s gonna be a completely different thing. Make it like Uenoyama only hugged Mafuyu after the song, even tho he wanted to kiss him, but knows that it’s not the right moment. Make Mafuyu heal first, make Uenoyama be in his own angst that he loves Mafuyu so much for example, but cares about him recover more, so he doesn’t expect for it to go somewhere, then he tries to date someone and Mafuyu first starts getting out there, when he feels like he can start trying again. Someday he gets sick and Uenoyama cancels his date to take care of him even tho it’s nothing serious and then the realization comes. Make Mafuyu kiss him first and take the first step. This would’ve changed everything so much. He should’ve made the first step when he was ready, this would’ve felt so right. Uenoyama kissing him after that song is just.. it feels, I was like ehhhmmm.. weird?
Seeing someone saying that Given is a masterpiece is hilarious to me. The fact that it includes heavy themes like suicide, doesn’t make it a masterpiece, esp when it’s handled this badly. Once again, if you pick such thing as a base for a love story, do it right then, not in a “bibbidi bobbidi boo” kind of thing.
BL or not BL, any relationships, it depends on whether you watch it and it feels plausable or not.
For example, if Yuu says that he can’t live with Mika, my tongue won’t even twist to call it “unhealthy” or be like “dude why”. But if some high schooler in slice of life anime who has a caring family tried to end himself bc his two weeks friend left him, I would’ve yelled “bitch go see a doctor”.
Depending on the story you can sell some feelings or not.
Nezumi and Shion are also problematic according to ppl’s logic these days. But I 100% believe they’re each other’s true loves. Only 11 episodes and it’s sold.
In Given I didn’t believe it. Bc it’s ridiculous, ok? It wasn’t the right place or time to start this relationship. It is not a new love story, it’s just a sad story.
Given movie is slightly better compared to other japanese BL? Why would you offend Sekaiichi Hatsukoi, Uragiri wa boku no namae, No.6 and many others?
Also better where? They kept the same old “’stop, i don’t want to’, but he did it anyway” stuff AND on top of that the story sucks.
The way he used him knowing very well that he was unrequitedly in love with him for so long is so disgusting that it leaves a much grosser feeling than many yaois combined. You’re saying “it’s slightly better” bc they’re of age or don’t have an age difference? I don’t get it. It somehow makes everything better?
No, thanks. I’d rather watch Onodera sleep with Takano in high school with them being genuinely into each other and it going great than whatever happened in the Given movie. I don’t care if they’re both 18 there, it made me feel bad.
I didn’t feel bad, when Wei Wuxian thought “why the fuck didn't I have sex with Lan Zhan back when I was 15? I've really pissed away all my days, haven't I?”. I wonder why is that.
Like what you’re saying here is that their opinion on BL is so low that they automatically would give it 10 out of 10 bc it’s slightly better than smth that they find “unbearable” to watch? What kind of evaluation is that exactly? Maybe also let’s compare each anime to “boku no pico”, then everything will look like a masterpiece.
Like excuse me for the fact that when I watch some shonen-ai and yaoi, I judge it the same way I judge any other genre and any other relationships (hetero or gay) in animes. On a scale whether I care or don’t care, whether I believe that they love each other or don’t, whether it’s a good story or not. I don’t get what it means “it’s good for yaoi”. It’s just not good. This movie is trash, I mean, the relationship in it is trash. Who the fuck cares gay or not gay. Trash relationships are trash. Bad story is a bad story. Whether it’s a bad gay story or a bad hetero story, I don’t give a shit.
The reason I’m more into boy on boy ships is because I love the relationships there more than relationships in most heterosexual couples. My fav hetero ships are either “from hate/attraction to love” stories like “gone with the wind”, “anastasia” or “pride and prejudice” or stuff like “equals without pink goo, who only see each other and don’t need no one else and would die for each other, epic soulmates” like Richard and Kahlan. In anime 99% of those fit bromances, not romances. Like I don’t find Midoriya/Uraraka appealing at all for a reason that “she said ‘hi’, he blushed as a tomato, now they’re supposed to be each other’s romantic interests” is not what I find romantic. I find romantic the fact that Todoroki is forever devoted to Midoriya bc he knows he’s amazing and is not afraid to say it; and he’ll always be there for him when he needs him, no matter what it is, him just sitting there crying, some villain trying to kill him or if he’s too late out ther grossery shopping. Uraraka most of the times doesn’t even care where he is.
Most hetero romantic animes, I just find ridiculous, too cheesy and unrealistic and I’m not ready to watch 50 episodes for them to hold hands. I’m not in that age and I also never found things like this romantic before either. Stuff like Kisa/Yukine, when you meet someone, find him attractive, wanna fuck him, then fall in love accidentally.. yeah, that’s understandable to me. Stuff like Takano/Onodera “I was an naive idiot in high school, but now life made me a sassy bitch and I can’t open up to people as easily” also yes, relatable.
When you’re turning into a tomato bc someone said “penis” and think holding hands will take your virginity or smth, that’s not my thing.
So when I watch BL, I expect more, not less. So if it’s bad, I just say it’s bad, I’m not gonna be like “hmm... unproblematic... then 10/10″ like what?
1stly, even “little mermaid” and “cinderella” are problematic.
2ndly everyone is so focused on purity these days, like storyline don’t matter at all. It’s like any great love story is automatically trash if they have age difference. Any trash love story is great, if they don’t?
Let’s then also rate “Dororo” as 1, bc it’s like 24 episodes of them falling for each other while she’s 11 and he’s 16. Wow, such gross relationships they have during the whole story. Doesn’t matter that she grew up at the end of the last episode, the whole anime she’s a child. And let’s rate Noragami 0, bc 2000 years old perverted Yato is into 15 year olds.
No one has to fuck asap (heck even in the same hella problematic “Super Lovers” you talk about, Haru refused to fuck Ren even tho he was 17 in s2 and wanted to fuck another guy) and the rule “you can only fall in love after 18″ doesn’t exist. Also underage is not BL thing, it’s all anime thing. It’s time to shut it already. There are zillions of age gap couples out there who are great. Hyakkimaru waited for Dororo to grow up, it’s fine, seriously, they love each other in the right way, he didn’t want to fuck her when she was 11, okay? They did love each other tho already then. Pls excuse them for that.
3rdly, some relationship that ppl here call unproblematic are 20 times more problematic, than what they call problematic.
4tly, why the heck it’s like couples who have an amazing character and relationship progression, who love each other to death and will do anything for each other, ppl go: “wow, at the very beginning, he grabbed his wrist, he needs to go to jail”. Meanwhile a relationship who has no base, no story, no logical progression, no anything are “yes, best love story in the world”. Yeah... who cares if it feels like it’s all been pulled out of an ass and doesn’t make sense, very healthy tho.
It sounds lately like if most ppl here had two stories in front of them and one would be about two men who just met and the next day one proposed and they lived happily ever after and 2nd would be some complicated incredible story with a natural progression of the relationship, but they yelled at each other once, they’d be like “1st is better”. Well, not to me, no.

I was really put off by the entire dialogue leading up to Daenerys' murder. Because that wasn't a conversation to me?! It was an investigation, a trial, & the minute she said something that was off or that Jon didn't agree with, her fate was sealed. That's just so fucked up. Here Jon is, internally debating whether or not he needs to KILL her, and Daenerys is almost begging him to lead with her, to not leave her alone. And he covers up his decision to end her life, with a kiss. Ugh.
Yeah, I feel you. I knew as soon as Jon looked back at Tyrion before going to Daenerys that she was a goner. And even though I knew that I was still hoping for something better lol.
She still seemed pretty much like Daenerys to me for the most part. The only thing she really said/did that didn't really seem like her was burn King’s Landing and then say “they don’t get to choose” bc we all know she’d never say something like that. That’s a Cersei line right there imo (I obviously believe they switched their stories lol).
It was just really disgusting to see Jon kill her the way he did. It would still be terrible no matter how he did it bc I mean, women die everyday irl at the hands of their current or ex-lovers/partners and seeing it romanticized on the biggest show on TV doesn’t really help. But he could have done it differently! It would have been nice if he hadn’t been such a coward (imo!) about it and said “you deserve to die for what you did” or something! Deceit and manipulation aren't a good look on characters that are supposed to be honorable. I know he was conflicted about it but he already knew what he was gonna do even though he didn't seem to like it. And I know this isn't the Jon we know and love, the Jon that couldn't kill Ygritte, his enemy, but it's also hard not to be upset about it bc it's still out there for people to see!
And you're right, it was anything but a conversation. No one wanted to have a conversation with her! Anyone with a heart would have been trying to take care of her after Missandei and Rhaegal’s deaths bc that's just a natural human instinct. At least I think it is. When someone’s upset, even just a little, you want to do whatever it takes to cheer them up! But Daenerys didn't even get a hug or a “how are you?” from anyone! Nope, they just all started saying she was mad and decided she needed to go! Bc women aren’t allowed to grieve I guess. Especially when she knew what would happen if people knew who Jon was. She was right and she was depressed so of course the men she was supposed to count on all decide she’s mad bc it seems women aren’t allowed to feel anything (but they still have to feel SOMETHING bc then they’re a cold hearted bitch) and they’re definitely not allowed to be right.
It was easy to ignore the sexism before but this season it was just all up in your face! Not to mention the racism and ableism. They just really didn’t care what they were doing to their viewers and the messages they were sending. Especially during a time when the extreme right are gaining power all over the world irl (which is really scary ngl)!
I was dumb enough to think that maybe D&D were just trying to keep their misogynistic viewers watching when there were so many powerful women in charge but they were just trying to keep the feminists watching lol. Not sure why I would have thought that in the first place but you can't be smart all the time I guess!
Idk that I’m gonna ever let myself get attached to another series or female character written by men ever again lol. They always let me down! Even some women. There was so much potential for this series as a whole but they ruined it long before season 8, that’s for sure. I would even say they ruined it from the very start! Like I'm not even halfway through A Game of Thrones and it's already so much better lol. Which is funny bc you usually like the TV show or movies better than the books if you watch them first!
But yeah, I think we're all pretty upset with how things went down. Everything was ruined bc D&D don't seem to understand why people enjoyed the shock of Ned’s beheading or the Red Wedding, even though it's not hard to understand. Maybe they learned their lesson, but I doubt it. They're too egotistical for that.

one hundred and eighty
Eden – Eden and I go way back. Even if she wasn't always a big part of my life, her brother was at one point and because of that she's always been there too which I appreciate more than anyone and anything. She and I met at a tourney that her and Michael attended and though I can't say my feelings for her were very strong in the beginning (I mean, she used to tell me I smelled like shit all the time) I'm so happy that our friendships blossomed into what it is now. She is the sweetest human on this Earth, and has one of the purest hearts I've ever had the privilege of getting to know. I'm convinced our initial encounter was fate, because otherwise I can't imagine we would've been able to get to know each other as well as we do now.
Jade – To say our past is complicated wouldn't be the right term to use. However, I just don't know how else I could describe it. I harbor no hard feelings for Jade, but at the same time, I wish whatever had happened, didn't happen. Not that I look back on it now and cringe or whatever, it's just something I could've lived my whole life never being involved in. She's cool, though, I guess, and I don't really have anything negative to say about her.
Juniper – This bitch is the main reason I wish gay people would just go extinct already. I couldn't tell you if her being a lesbian makes me hate her more or not, but I know one thing for sure and it's that if she were up in flames and I had a glass of water, I'd drink the water. I'm sure the feeling is mutual as well, and quite frankly, I couldn't give a single fuck. She wants to play hardball with me, I'll give her hardball. I don't give money to people I don't feel deserve it and if she has a problem with that she can kiss my pale ass.
Blossom* – It's not very often that you find female sources on the dark web. Whether or not that makes me trust Blossom more is debatable. I have to say, however, that her reliability is commendable. So much so, in fact, that when I found out she was no longer working for 7 Deadly Sins, I just had to reach out to ensure our deal was still on. I'm not letting her go easy, and I'm sure she knows that. She's local, dependable, and knows what she's doing. Not even most of the men I've worked with before have had one of those traits, much less all three.
*Blossom is Katarina. Katarina and Gio's storyline consists of him contacting her (as Red, of course) after hearing about her severing ties with 7DS. He is adamant on keeping her as a source for women to use on his site, since she is his most convenient option at that moment. They have yet to figure each other out.
Vida – The least I can do in this town is get one person to trust me on a business level, right? I'm helping Vida for both our sakes. I'm not gonna lie and say I'd do what I did for her even if there was nothing in it for me, but it was still a lot more than I had to do and now I've got her where I want her. Whether our future as business partners work out or not is really up to the both of us. It's risky as all hell, but I'm always one to hold up my end of a deal if it's something I want. And I definitely want what she can offer me.
Jude – I got a little too high and a little too drunk and ended up talking to Jude about the time I did butt stuff with an awful ex of mine. I look back on it now and am thoroughly disgusted and embarrassed by it, but truthfully it's nice to finally talk all of that through with someone who I knew couldn't judge me for it. I'd initially gotten Jude into some shit with my fanbase regarding his sexuality, but I finally owned up to what I had said about him and apologized for it, which is incredibly rare for me to do.

I saw the news headlines and stared at the megaphone in a mixture of shock and awe. Surely it was a coincidence, I told myself, and decided to leave it alone.
The next day, the headline repeated itself, but this time the reporters were more skeptical about whether or not "The Voice," as they'd called it, existed in the first place. Well, moreso Veronica Hazelwood, who sought to show how "rational" she was and to convince everyone how "even-tempered" and "level-headed" she was. She almost seemed to mock the Voice, saying it was a "speaker malfunction." Like any speaker could be powerful enough the whole town heard it.
It had haunted me from the moment I'd purchased it. Not that any harm had come to me, but moreso curiosity. What if it HAD been because of me, I wondered, and what would people say if I never came back?
I'd decided to test it out. I went to my window and cleared my throat, closing my eyes and sighing. "I have a request," I simply spoke into one end, "that tomorrow night Veronica Hazelwood wear a red cardigan on the news. If she does, then I have more to say."
Sure enough, the news the following morning, at least when I'd flipped to it, was a heated debate between Veronica and her co-anchor, Trevor Fitzgerald, who was goading her on to change before the nightly news. "Just see what else the Voice has to say," he said with a grin as he poked her side, something they always did to tease each other. She tried to avoid it as much as possible, but Trevor still commented how "It will be fun," and "Let's just see what'll happen, huh?"
She eventually caved. On the nightly news, under her burgundy overcoat, she wore a deep red cardigan. My heart raced all day, and seeing this confirmed it. I really was the Voice. I rubbed my eyes, trying to see if I was just tired. I wasn't. I decided to step outside and take a walk.
Outside I had run into Jimmy Valentine, probably one of the sweetest people I'd ever known. His wife left him because she had finally run out of uses for him. I remember her yelling at how much of a "deadbeat" he was as he was even packing up his things and moving stuff around her house (the divorce lawyer sided with her) to make it more comfortable for her and her new boyfriend. Jimmy had loved Denise, so much so that he left when she asked him to. No fuss. No mess. No yelling or getting the neighbors involved (except for George Shapiro, who happened to be the judge over the court case), and Jimmy gave his now ex-wife everything that she wanted. Ever since then he'd been living outside of my apartment building. We were nice enough to keep his stuff inside so he didn't have to worry about them getting ruined, but he chose to camp outside instead of shacking up with us because he "didn't wanna intrude."
Jimmy was always more concerned with how others were than he was, to a fault. He asked me how I was. How school was. How my girlfriend was. He had a kind of goofy smile that you would always remember if you ever needed a friend. Today was no exception. I told him I'd had received a gift that was actually a lot more than I could've thought, and he sat me down and offered me some soda. "You know," he said, "I've had experiences like that. Pets, amirite? All you gotta do is make sure that they make you happy and you make them happy. Otherwise, it'll all fall apart. Whatever it is, I'm sure it'll make you happy, and vice versa."
I kept this in mind as I walked inside, struggling to think of what to do next. It was a quick conversation, maybe 10 minutes, but Veronica was already back on her soap box about how the Voice wasn't real. I sighed and held up my megaphone and cleared my throat.
"I have a request," I began. "There is one among you, Jimmy Valentine. Many of you may know him. All he's done is give to people, and now, it's his turn to receive. Housing, food, clothes, work, whatever you can give him. He's by the apartment complex by Fourth and Rogers." I gulped, knowing I may have put him in harm's way somehow, and finished with a simple edict: "Do not disappoint me. If harm comes to him..." I let them leave it up to their imaginations. I had no way to fill out that threat, but I knew it may help. It was only 5:00 p.m.
By 7, I'd counted 3 bankers, 4 separate companies, and about two dozen random people stopping by and dropping off various things. When I'd talked to Jimmy, he was practically crying. He'd told me how Oscar Adaams, an old college friend, got him a job at a law firm he'd worked at as a janitor (which, surprisingly, paid well) because that's what he'd done before. Susan Edwards, head of the local Credit Union had basically given him a deed to a house, but almost panickedly. Conner O'Malley had given him the keys to a spare car, and Kim Wesley had dropped off a bunch of clothes her son who had just left for college wanted her to donate. She said she'd "found the right place to drop them off" when the Voice spoke.
I'd congratulated Jimmy, but I couldn't shake the feeling of how he'd described the way Susan had given him the deed. "Panicked," he'd said. "She was almost fearful... Wonder what'd gotten into her?" I went back inside shortly after and went to bed.
The next morning I'd woken up, turned on the news as normal, and heard Veronica talking about "the Voice," but slightly less (and yet slightly more cynical) this time.
"The Voice has spoken again, and been fulfilled, but at what cost? Several hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of things - given away!" She seemed distressed, but Trevor straightened his collar and responded, "But look at how much good it's caused! A citizen, and well-valued friend, Jimmy Valentine, has gotten back on his feet after his divorce with Denise Platsky. Maybe the Voice will come through again?" Veronica huffed, then went on to a story about the Zoo.
I'd stopped by work after school, and my friend Amy McKenzie. She asked a lot of questions, mostly about the Physics homework we had (which, for the life of me, I couldn't help with, so we resolved to talk to Hayman Trudy tomorrow,) but then the conversation rolled around towards the thing everyone had been talking about for the last week: The Voice.
"Brendan Newman says the Voice is spooky," she said, wiggling her fingers in my direction for emphasis on the last word. "Says he doesn't like that he doesn't know where it's coming from. I assured him it was OK. What do you think about it?" I simply shrugged and got myself a soda, sighing as we walked out the door. "I think we'll know just how spooky it is if we ever find out WHERE it's coming from..."
We parted ways after we went by my house, which easily a few blocks away from work, and only a few blocks more from school. My phone rang, and, lo and behold, it was Rachel Day, my girlfriend. She'd been out sick, and had called me to catch up.
When I picked up the phone, she was panicking. I tried to calm her down, and she did, but she was still sobbing. I asked her what was wrong, and here was what I got: her brother had gotten into a car accident on his way home, and the only doctor they could afford was a few hours out of town. The only qualified people who were in town were well out of their price range, and I sighed and did my best to comfort her. I'd asked her who the doctors in town were, and she gave me a couple of names, but otherwise told me not to worry about it, since I couldn't do much. "I'll be there in a little bit, ok? We'll get this sorted out," I assured her. The other driver had apparently survived with little to no injuries, but both cars were totalled. Rachel's brother, on the other hand...
I knew what to do. I grabbed the megaphone and, with an air of authority, spoke. "Zack Long, Yohan Kemp, and Preston Barton. I have a request of you." The news was on, and the anchors seemed to go silent as I spoke. The whole city did.
"There has been an accident," I began, "one that I know you three can help with. A man named Ian Useff has been injured severely." I proceeded to then relate all I knew, including the hospital he was currently being kept in while Rachel's family was awaiting transportation. "Eighth and Quincy," I said, "at the Memorial Health Center. I need you all there as soon as possible, and help fix this poor man."
I quickly set down the megaphone as Veronica and Trevor began talking about the message the Voice had given, Trevor urging the doctors to assist in any way they could. They promised to send their correspondent Mary Yelsky to do a live coverage on what they could, with the consent of the family.
Ian survived the night, and was pronounced to be "in recovery" the following morning. It was a rough night for Rachel, but we got through it.
"Norman Ziegal live on the scene of what appears to be a miracle," the voice over the hospital waiting room TV announced for the 7:00 news. He, of course, was talking about the Voice and how it had saved Ian, but I knew better. Rachel promised me she'd be ok so I could go do what I needed to before heading back to my house to check in with my parents.
On my way back home, my Physics professor, Larry Xegal (of X-man, as some people called him,) and I ran into each other. He offered me condolences to pass on to Rachel when I could, as he was already running late, and informed me he was cancelling all assignments until Ian was better. I'd asked why, and he simply said, "To let everyone take their own time to heal, and offer help to those in need. This time, it's Rachel and the Days."
Quincy Carver and his best friend Ulysses Grant (no, not named after the general, as far as I know,) were talking to Jimmy about what had happened, and helping him load the rest of his stuff up to take to his new home. I went up to my apartment, and ran into Wanda Ingland, who tried to talk to me about how crazy the past few days had been and how much has changed. I smiled and nodded, making polite small talk as we stood there. When I'd let her know that I was checking in with my parents then heading back to Rachel, she hurried me along without a second thought.
I'd just come in the front door when I saw I had a message from Xander James, one of the guys from work. He was asking if I could pick up a shift, and I shot him a quick text back saying I'd be out of commission for the next couple of weeks.
I slipped into my room, and found the megaphone. I wanted to make my next message as powerful as I could, and so I let my words guide themselves.
"I know I've asked a lot of you all recently," I began, "and I know how hard it's been for some of you." I took a deep breath, sighing before continuing.
"I want you all to know I'm very proud of how the situation's been handled. I was wary, but have enjoyed the results... But..." I bit my lip. "We need to do more. Feed the hungry. House the homeless. Give everyone what they need, no questions asked. Why, you may ask, should we do this? Did they earn these things? In fact, they did. By simply existing, they've earned the right to basic human functions and resources needed to survive. So tell me this: why shouldn't we? We have the resources to, so let's do what we can to help our fellow people. Not because we have to, but the opposite: because we want to. Because it's the right thing to do. I know you're capable of fulfilling my request sevenfold," (to which I internally snickered because I liked the sound of the word,) "so doing it once should be just fine." I set down my megaphone and went about my day as normal.
Little did I know that I wasn't just hitting my town. The hospital had the local and the national news side by side, and I was astonished. "VOICE MAKES FINAL PROCLAMATION, WHY SHOULD WE FOLLOW IT?" was the main headline of the night. The next morning, I decided to check the international headlines and, sure enough, Voice was there too. Some called it divine. Some demonic. Most agreed with my last statement. Not everyone, but most. There were questions about who or what was behind "The Voice," but I'd decided to let them keep wondering as I helped Rachel go up to see her brother.
I couldn't help but smile as we walked up to the door. "What's that about?" she asked, in much better shape than yesterday.
"Things are just... Going so well." I say as I open the door.
You stumble upon an old megaphone in an antique shop and jokingly pick it up and say, “Everybody listen up!”. Later that night, the news headlines read, We’re all listening for what the voice has to next say next!”
