Very happy for Isaiah and Violet. Their relationship seems very healthy and happy, and they both love each other a lot so I'm sure they'll be very happily married when the wedding comes around :D

āSENT TO THE GULAGā IS KILLING ME
okay yes hop has probably atoned for his sins by now and his monologue at rock bottom was really good but it still pisses me off sometimes idkk. im just waiting for the payoff of seeing him actually DO better this timeš
and exactly! the angst in s2 is like- messy- but thatās good television! it gave us a top 5 millie preformance how can i even be mad
men in stranger things are weird sometimes cuz you have to overlook their CRIMES, (iāll be like āomg jancy!ā then i REMEMBERā¦) itās weird when a character is randomly at their worst for a scene or a season just to meet the storyās requirements
jopper can scream at each other all sam and diane for nostalgia in s3 but when you look at it in a larger context itās kinda dicey. like how weird of hop to doubt her when he already knows to trust her instincts.
and also itās just like- nobody drags him enough for me! heās so loved- male characters can do ANYTHING kinda- so i have to get him. out of principle. and i see that hopper (and like david harbour) is too important to kill off in the show and that him and elās relationship isnāt all lows, not even in s2. i think iām just bitter that 1. st tiktok treats el like she was SO unreasonable in that scene>:( (i need to stop going there it makes me want to rant on tumblr) and 2. how much time was devoted to bringing him back last season like my cali boys were so neglected. :( (after 2 failed prison escape attempts i was like (why i am still looking at this insanely bruised man) so-
but yeah i need to stop typing now cause i have a million thoughts in my head about hopper and the way that he is. and the way the show treats him. (how funny is it that even the viewers can have a complicated relationship with him. maybe iām not giving the writers enough credit in that regard)
: )
-No like, I agree 100%. We forgive but we never forget
-I have a hard time even being really mad at Jonathan for the Incident cuz like, that was such a weird ooc moment that was clearly just so the plot would happen. Like he got possessed by the spirit of the writers to do that shit. And like I can't even be mad at the writers either because like, the plot they were servicing is really fucking good? I might be the only person in the world who thinks this but I think this show is phenomenally written esp from a plot structure perspective. Near perfectly even. Like this show single-handedly instilled a sense of how to do super satisfying setup and payoff, and how to have every scene push multiple things forward, and how everything seen on screen needs to be relevant to as much as possible. Its so tightly written that its like...yeah Jonathan had to do that shit. It allowed like 3 perfectly intersecting plotlines to play out. There was no other option. And like there probably was and maybe I'm coping or whatever but like...idk it's perfect to me :) But still we forgive but we never forget. And we only forgive after they display a marked change in behavior. And we still never forget <3 (side note: remember when El dumped him and Mike ((and Lucas)) went full andrew tate for a second? That's the one thing he's ((they've)) actually ever done wrong lmaooo ((tbf they were also 13 so like)))
-Who tf is saying she was being unreasonable??? child???? traumatized??? isolated in a tiny cabin for a year?????? With Hopper?????? A cop????????? HellO?????????? Bro ppl HATE her bro this needs to stop
-I think the biggest problem with the Russia plotline is just that it's not fun? Watching Hopper get tortured in a labor camp is not fun? I came here for 80s vibes, friendship and supernatural shit and it only delivers that whenever Joyce and Murray are onscreen (who are really fantastic together tho) and once the monster finally shows up way too late into the proceedings. There should have been inklings of monster throughout to add some intrigue and let us know that this was all going to have a point that tied into the plot of Stranger Things the 80s Monster Show. But alas.
#I've hated a character in canon so much that I actively deleted them from the fanfiction I'm always writing in my head#can't say anyone in this show is near that level#but like#well I only care about the party lmao#everyone else is side characters#anyway thank you for the essay as usual u are correct and I will be citing this in my college thesis#acab

sorry, this got so long, i definitely got off topic to cry about stevebucky and sambucky and you did not ask for the novel length of this š¬
okay, I finished that silly little book. I can appreciate it for the fact that we finally have some more exploration of buckyās character signed off by marvel but I went into this without having read the blurb (my own fault) and so to discover it was an AU, I started reading it before I sent you that ask, was kind of disappointing. I really wanted to love this but the way bucky was portrayed in here almost felt cartoonish and wildly out of character, more a bumbling idiot than the sharp, responsible buck we know and love, and you couldn't really tell bucky was seventeen for the most part, he almost felt like a twelve year old kid in the way he acted.Ā
itās also intended for a young audience so I guess this is why that 1941 plotline had to be dragged out for so long. I do think itās funny that the entire āwho the hell is buckyā moment was with an actually confirmed lover in this book, which kind of confirms stucky was romantic, if you squint. maybe not. and oh my god, steve!! he was there for like two minutes, but I loved that quick little interaction they had.Ā
(and I mean, I can get behind the au thing of it all but how in the hell did bucky survive cryostasis and the torture without the supersoldier serum? šI KNOW itās a comic book based story, but still)
I loved this book for the 1954 storyline, god. the reason why even wears the mask to begin with broke my heart all over again. the last two chapters and his mission in riga really sealed the deal for me. so, if anything, Iām glad I read this book for those chapters. the last two chapters were so good.
mostly I just feel resentment towards the mcu for sidelining buckyās character for years. there is so much potential, or was, I wasnāt a fan or even aware of the cap trilogy back in 2014 but having watched ca:tws now I felt like, okay, after this itās finally time to explore buckyās character more in-depth. I felt like this was the set up to finally tell buckyās story. and why didnāt they? heās one of the most beloved characters ever. itās crazy to me how homophobic those marvel execs must have been, they saw sebastian stan and chris evans had a little too much chemistry and were like nah, we canāt ever let those two be seen on screen together for longer than five minutes. and I love stevebucky, I do. but I didnāt expect marvel to ever go there. just a movie exploring buckyās life as the winter soldier from 1945 to 2016 and after. his friendship with nat, those years on the run, wakanda, maybe. Iām so glad fanfic exists bc it definitely fills that void but I kind of feel bad for sebastian bc he clearly had expectations and wants for that character that he never saw fulfilled. the state of the mcu just makes me want to scream, thinking about tfatws feels like a fever dream now knowing that in cap4 and thunderbolts the writers will just āforgetā this show ever happened. forever mad that they never hired good writers after cap2 who actually cared about these characters and narrative coherency.
this book just made me want to reread not easily conquered and dive back into the steve/bucky tag for good wwii fics. these characters had so much potential! and they went nowhere with them! I think on a panel in 2018 cevans joked about a potential tv show or something where they could dive into steve and buckyās lives in the 40s and then immediately said itād be impossible to make this show.
No worries anon, I'm happy to hear your take on things! And I do largely agree with you. The teen Bucky section wasn't nearly as strong as the Winter Soldier stuff. In the comics, you can see that young!Bucky struggles with being impulsive, at least partially because he's driven by this desperate need to prove himself. In the book, he was just like... kind of dumb lol (and also weirdly sexist at first, in a way that was probably realistic for the time frame, but still very off-putting).
But the 1954 chapters are much more compelling, especially towards the end. I kind of wish it hadn't been a YA novel, because I think it could've leaned deeper into the sort of slow-burning horror aspect of the Winter Soldier gradually realizing that he doesn't know who he is, and he can't trust any of the people around him. Like you said, the last two chapters were gripping, probably the highlight of the book.
As for everything else... lol, yeah. I've resigned myself to the fact that the MCU will never live up to what I want it to be. Which is a franchise that like... actually cares about its characters lol. Instead, it's more interested in expanding, creating new properties to milk dry and then move on, only occasionally giving us crumbs of the stories that roped people in in the first place. I'd love a WWII-era show, or really anything that gets into the backstories for Steve, Sam, or Bucky. And I think it could be really cool to tell those stories in some of the animated shows. But I also don't think that's going to happen lol.
I think you hit the nail on the head by calling TFATWS a "fever dream." I will be seeing C4 and Thunderbolts, and I'm glad to get new content, but... tbh I would be more excited if I believed we'd get a Sam and Bucky reunion down the line. Unfortunately, I'm not super optimistic that'll happen.
But! That's what we have fandom for, at least.

rott spoilers ahead
so iāve given myself some time to think about everything and try to process it all and here are some of my thoughts on trollhunters: rise of the titans...
- straight off the bat, i loved the intro. opening with blinky telling the story of what happened up until this point was incredible. i would have loved if they had circled back to this though (i saw someone else say it should have been him telling the story to jim and claireās kids and i loved that idea!)
- i also liked that they didnāt waste time at the start, instead they just jumped right into the action which was fun.
- honestly, i thought jimās plotline throughout the movie where he basically thought he was useless without the amulet was just really not fun to watch. i understand why it was there and it played into the climax but i really did not find it one bit necessary seeing as i felt that we have grown beyond that. i felt it was overused. weāve been there before and jim is aware that heās the trollhunter, amulet or not.
- douxie being so soft with nari was genuinely one of the most heartwarming parts of the movie. i feel that we were really robbed of so much potential with douxie in this movie though. we didnāt see nearly enough of him. it seemed that the writers were picking and choosing when to remember how powerful he is. switching with nari and connecting to her are two examples of when they actually used his power, but aside from that they just disregarded it a lot.
- and speaking of forgetting how powerful people are... iām genuinely so hurt and let down over what they did to claire. do they not realise how powerful she is? did they just forget about her character arc? it sure felt like it. she got to use her powers a few times (connecting to nari, portalling the titan, etc) but mostly it felt like she was saying she was spent and therefore unable to do anything. she is so strong and so powerful, and thatās just so empowering - especially for young girls. and then it kinda felt to me that rott was reducing her to basically nothing more than jimās love interest.
- okay another quick note, it kinda felt to me that krelās potential was also pretty wasted? he barely did anything and i just think he deserved more too.
- ew okay i donāt even want to think about it but i know i canāt discuss rott without talking about the mpreg thing. seriously, what the fuck was that? at first, i thought it was going to be a joke. i thought aja and krel were gonna wind steve up and see how far they could go with making him think he was pregnant just for a little bit of comic relief. but then he was actually pregnant. and so i laughed, because even though it was dumb it was kind of funny. weird and unexpected, but kind of funny. but by the time the movie was over it just didnāt sit right with me. looking past the fact that it was just more of them making steveās character into a joke, i couldnāt see the logic in giving so much time to that subplot when other characters (claire, douxie) and other relationships (claire and douxieās friendship) were sidelined. maybe if he had gotten a whole season the mpreg thing could have been included as comic relief or whatever, but with such limited time i really donāt see the point of wasting so much time on something so pointless.Ā
- speaking of steve, i need to talk about creepslayerz... they really deserved more :( like i get that eli literally helped steve through child birth and then named one after him which was lowkey adorable but i loved their friendship so much and i was really hoping to see more of them. i was kind of hoping theyād get to do more as well. look i gave up on hopes of a romance long ago (even though i still really wished it would happen) but i hoped that at least weād see some more of their friendship.
* by this point my brain has decided to forget absolutely every point i wanted to make... cue the brain fog (we donāt like her) and allow me to take a moment to read back and try to find my point again *
- i donāt think i can stress enough how much i loved the visuals in this movie. holy fucking shit it was just phenomenal. like wow. the art was absolutely fantastic and iām really hoping for another the art of... book because i love the art of trollhunters and i feel that they could do with updating it to include the newer stuff. but yep, the animation quality was incredible and i donāt have a bad thing to say about it because just wow.
- speaking of art... a moment of appreciation for character designs. just wow wow wow. we love to see such intricately designed villains. we love to see growth in our other much loved characters. and the locations too? fantastic. beautiful. amazing. loved it.
- another moment of appreciation for jim. the hair. the scars. the injuries. the winter jacket. the fact that he looked a little older.... loved it. loved it, loved it, loved it. i cannot wait to spend hours pouring over reference pictures to draw them all.
- and claire... her armor being weathered and worn. her eyes!! her hair looked great as always. i just love her...
- nari nari nari... my goodness, her magic is so beautiful. i wish we got to see more.
- also, the jlaire moments were very cute. their kisses? so soft. they literally love each other so much. i adore them.
- what happened to the babies from the darklands btw? is not enrique just chilling in the lakeās house with a ton of babies?Ā
- barbara deserved better. i would have liked to see her and strickler happy.
- on that note, why the actual fuck did they think a few explosives would win against magic?? literal ancient magic and these dumbasses were like huh i guess we should blow it up. iām sorry, what?? yāall are stupid.
* currently trying to think of every possible point that isnāt to do with the ending because i really donāt want to think about that yet *
- the whole thing with archie and charlemagne felt super unnecessary. like usually characters sacrifice themselves and itās like sad and you can see the reasoning and stuff. but they literally could have gotten out. i really did not vibe with that. it felt like they just did that to leave douxie with no one.
- that trollmarket was beautiful though.
- speaking of trollmarket... they really restored the heartstone just like that? are you joking? i was not impressed at all. the heartstone was dead and gone, could not be destroyed. did they just forget that? half the shit in wizards wouldnāt have happened if the heartstone could have been restored. very pissed off by that. it was dead, that was it.
- okay back to jim... love that he pulled the sword from the stone. it was cute that it was a group effort, kinda would have preferred if it was just him but thatās just a me thing. and maybe me and my daylight tattoo are biased here, but excalibur is not half as pretty as daylight.
- not gonna lie, jim yelling come on trollhunters! kinda got me. i was very emotional watching this.
- i think the most in character jim moment of the whole movie was when he dropped excalibur, he didnāt have his armor, he was all alone and he decided to make a fist and fight the wizard/god with literally no weapon or means of defence. i donāt think yāall understand how much i love this dumb self sacrificing selfless boy. iāve said it before and iāll say it again, he is literally one of my most favourite characters of all time. i love him with all my heart.
- the armor!! wow wow wow. that was a fucking cool scene. beautiful.
- jim getting stabbed or whatever with that fucking spear thing nearly killed me.
- okay here goes... toby. my sweet toby. jim and tobyās friendship is one of my absolute favourites ever. my goodness. and toby getting in the van and going to save jim was incredible and such a toby thing to do. of course he would think of doing that.
- but like seriously... claire and douxie are so fucking powerful and they were both just like lol i guess we canāt do anything to help jim? iām sorry what?? donāt tell me that claire wouldnāt go full on black and purple eyes and get herself up their to him. i just... iām so bothered by the fact that they were sidelined yāall :|
- also, do not seriously try to tell me that aaarrrgghh!!! would let toby go on his own. he would have went with him. he would have followed him.
- literally as jim was falling the first thing that went through my mind was oh aaarrrgghh!!! is gonna run up and catch him.
- and while weāre on the topic of aaarrrgghh!!! why tf did they have such a build up that something was going to happen to either him or blinky for literally no reason? wtf
- aaarrrgghh!!! would not have let toby go alone!!! if he had been there, he would have protected toby, he would have saved him and none of that mess of an ending would have happened.
* ugh hereās the bit i was dreading... the ending *
- first off, i am choosing to ignore it.
- time stone? really? weāre... weāre gonna do this? literally one of the most original things i have ever watched is now - at the literal last possible minute - rip off another movie?? really?? whyyyy???
- i literally cannot express how much i hated it. it was so fucking unnecessary.
- he didnāt need to go back that far!!!
- iām actually trying to block this out but i suppose i have to at least touch on it. jim would never ever put that burden on to toby. he just wouldnāt. before even looking at all of the other issues with toby getting the amulet, i need to say that. it just wouldnāt happen. he struggled so much with being the trollhunter, he wouldnāt put that on toby.Ā
- also toby literally never wanted to be the trollhunter?? he never wanted the amulet? he wanted to be a duke and have his war hammer and go on adventures with his best friend and his wingman and eat mexican food.
- okay so um i guess they all just forgot about unbecoming? cool cool cool.
- seriously though, was it not established many times that jim literally had to be trollhunter? and if he wasnāt it would be draal and everything would go to shit? did they just forget about that??
- having jim just decide to give toby the amulet literally takes away from the entire meaning behind jim getting the amulet and becoming the trollhunter. the amulet chose jim. merlin chose him. out of all of the creatures in the world, it had to be jim. he canāt just give that to toby!!
- and as much as i love toby, he would not last a day as trollhunter.
- and thatās not even beginning to mention all that jim erased by not becoming trollhunter. no father son relationship between him and blinky. they didnāt stop steve from picking on eli so no steve redemption and no creepslayerz. is he just going to allow enrique to be taken? toby will not have the same incentive to go into the darklands to save him if thatās the case. strickler will not show any sort of sentiment towards toby either. and then the big one...
- IS THAT FUCKER REALLY GOING TO ALLOW CLAIRE TO NOT GET HER POWERS??? WHAT???
- if jim isnāt trollhunter and the whole thing with enrique doesnāt happen then claire will never get her shadowstaff. letās be real, strickler probably wouldnāt even need angor rot with toby as trollhunter. somehow i canāt see him making it that far...
- if claire doesnāt have her shadow staff then the whole thing with morgana wonāt happen. she wonāt destroy the shadow staff and then she will never develop her powers. would jim really rob her of that?
- okay i canāt do anymore, itās too much for me now...
- i touched on this already in a separate post but i gotta say it again... i did not enjoy the destiny is a gift bit at the end. first of all, jim having toby find the amulet literally takes the meaning of that speech and his destiny away instanty. and second, i just could not stand hearing emile hirsch say the words that belonged to anton yelchin. it was just uncomfortable.
aaand i think iām done. maybe iāll have more later but i have a headache now from all of this.

my unpopular dsmp opinions, some of which genuinely should be popular
c!dream has crossed the moral event horizon and is irredeemable. once you cross that threshold, you're no longer a 'morally grey' character.
pre-recorded, heavily produced lore killed the lore. it was cool, sure, but you completely misunderstand the magic that the smp had when people watched it initially. the story is improv and that's how we like it. we can tell the cc's have lost interest in it, you can admit that to us, we'll understand, just stop lying to me.
c!dream's pov isn't necessary to understand his character or his motivations. if you've watched literally any c!primeboys stream he's basically spelled it out for you.
i don't understand how fans can dislike l'manberg or have claimed to be against it since the beginning. i honestly don't get it. what's so bad about wanting your own spot where you make your own rules and skirt accountability that has been used to technically oppress you before - and, before someone who never saw the earlier streams tries to disagree with this, the og l'manberg crew were imprisoned for shit that everyone else on the server was practically encouraged to do. also, what do you have against fun and happiness?
i think some of you forget that 'hybrids' aren't a thing, discounting c!ranboo. there's no piglin hybrids, c!techno is just a pig. there's no avian hybrids, c!phil is just a man with wings. there's no creeper hybrids, c!sam is just a creeper who's indecently exposed from the hips down. canonically there's no hybrids, and therefore no hybrid discrimination. people ran with that concept too much.
the loss and the fanon rewriting of the early lore up until pogtopia has ruined fandom perception of c!dream and the og l'manberg boys. c!tommy is more morally white than you think he is, and c!dream has always been a villain - he massacres and he kills and he destroys and he schemes and he always has broken his own rules. no wonder the boys wanted their own space after how they were treated.
i think ranboo oftentimes forgets his own lore. he brings stuff up that c!ranboo may have done, such as exploding the community house to frame c!tommy, holding onto Cat, and it goes absolutely nowhere. we've gotten all of these developments in his story but they have never been expanded on, and we're nowhere closer to figuring out his relationship to c!dream and what his other side is and honestly i see no hope that we'll be any closer to knowing even by the end of the year.
your characters don't all have to be morally grey for the story itself to be morally grey. this is fiction - some people can be nothing but evil and others can be nothing but good. being purely good or evil doesn't mean that you're one dimensional, either.
c!dream apologists have ruined c!dream for me. he's not a good person. how about you let me enjoy a villain for who he actually is, rather for than your percieved woobified ragdoll you pass off as c!dream.
the story was better when there was a central writer. it was brilliant back when wilbur wrote it to be that the environment drives the characters and the story, and it was really good in early s2 up until techno's execution day when it was more character driven. since then, the amount of autonomy people have over their characters without any central 'director', as it were, has been a detriment to the story overall. there needs to still be one overarching figure or director or writer.
not everyone is a main character. just because they have a pov, doesn't mean they're a main character. some characters have such little impact on the overall plot and describing everyone as a main character oversaturates the story and makes some characters seem more important than they are.
the egg lore had so much potential up until it didn't. all that built up threat that we were expecting and we still don't even know what the egg wants really other than just controlling people. does it hatch?
genuinely, if there's no major plot developments by the end of the year (and let's be honest, it's a very big possibility at this point), a few of the more prominent members of the server should do a podcast style stream talking about where the story would have gone, because at least then we would have gotten somewhat closer to a conclusion.
c!techno is a villain and an asshole and a bad person. he stops caring for people once their interests don't align with his or if they look at him funny. he makes meta-jokes about his own tyrannical and oppressive nature. stop taking that away from him. he's a bad person. cc!techno does a fabulous job portraying that in a comedic manner and the balancing of him being a deeply flawed person with deeply flawed morals and ideas with his comedically-portrayed stubbornness and lack of willingness to hear out opposing viewpoints is incredible. i want to like characters who are arseholes for the sake of being arseholes, and who refuse to take into account the hurt they've caused either out of self-righteousness or because they don't care, so let me. he's the anti-peacemaker, LET ME HIM ENJOY HIM FOR THAT!!!!
i think tommy and wilbur's way of doing lore is my favourite. relies heavily on improv, voice acting, sprite acting and facial expressions. really shows off the acting props and they pull off the emotional moments well for the insanity of the creative medium.
i'm not a fan of fan-music. i find songs about media i'm into difficult to listen to. coincidentally i'm also not a fan of shit like slam poetry or live music/musicals/pantomimes.
the death of l'manberg killed people's motivation to go on the server casually. i've talked about it more in depth before, but destroying what was a central, driving environment for the story killed momentum and motivation. imagine in an episode of she-ra, the princess alliance just nuke the freight zone and all of the members of the horde just have to deal with it. that would be shit.
until season 3 has some momentum, i'm counting the end of the smp as january 20th. that had a conclusion. season 3 has... whores, technoblade and tommyinnit. that's about it.
i wasn't a fan of the development of c!tubbo joining las nevadas. i preferred snowchester and the walled city conflict. give c!tubbo some backbone and some badassery. also tubbo where's the fucking nuke bro if you're shelving that plotline just tell us on like an alt stream what the plan was i beg
add like 2 or 3 new people to the server so that michael mcchill has someone to talk to and so that there's something always happening on the server. it gives the og's more motivation to return if things are happening in and out of canon and it'll help with momentum, and who knows? maybe they can write their own story/stories.
i really think that c!sam is an underrated character. he's multilayered, extremely interesting, and the dichotomy of his loyalty to his job and how far down the rabbithole that's taken him versus the genuine love he has for his friends that drives him to do what he does out of wanting to do right by them is brilliant. i don't talk about c!sam enough.
STOP HAVING FUCKING VILLAIN ARCS!!! I'M FUCKIN SICK OF IT!!!! i want to see more characters who see everyone else being absolute selfish, abhorrent cunts and go 'if nobody else is going to be a good person, i fucking will'. GIVE ME SOME MORAL WHITENESS!!! IT'S INTERESTING AND MORALLY GOOD CHARACTERS ARE FUN!!!
let tommyinnit build cobblestone towers. everyone bullied him too much for how ugly they were and the one he built outside of the prison looked genuinely really nice. it gives the boy something to do.
i'm a fan of the revive book and the canon lives system. don't ask me why, but i think it might just be the morbidity of it. it adds to c!dream's god complex persona, and i think the fragility of death itself is a really fun concept. not enough fan cc's have made connections with that and c!mumza, and it could make for cool fanfic.
ranboo your house is fucking ugly. it's an eyesore
c!niki, and to some extent now c!jack and c!fundy, are boring me and ruining my mood. i think c!jack is the closest to being an actually interesting sympathetic villain, mainly because nobody else seems to realise that c!niki is a villain. not a good one imo, but she's a villain. c!jack just has the problem of starting a new project over and over and over and over again and because of the slow in momentum for the primary cast, there hasn't been a lot of recent development for him.
not really a dream smp opinion, but if philza went full geordie accent, i would love it. i want him to, in canon, say shit like 'me n ye' instead of 'me and you' and use geordie dialect. i want him to be physically unintelligible because it's funny.
i don't really know what's up with c!foolish but i think he's a dumbass. he had a while to think about c!q's proposal and then changed his mind about joining the guy to admitted to letting him die just because. moron
i wish there was more c!eret lore. i wish he was an actual king with an actual kingdom and actual subjects and royal advisors. c!eret is far too fucking cool to be the king of nothing and nobody. fatten up the kingdom and the castle with people who work with c!eret, and don't just make it tyrannical and dictator-y to prove the point of the server's 'anarchists'. make it a healthy working environment, please - if you want moral greyness, have 'anarchists' who claim to care about the welfare of the server oppose a kingdom of happy people under a fair and just ruler because their ideologies clash.
the server needs more characters who oppose anarchy in more peaceful ways, or passively wish for systems to be a part of. i think a chaos vs order conflict ending only in mutual understanding where everyone understands that they should just leave each other alone would slot nicely into the story that's been created so far.
you need to have watched all of the previous arcs to understand the story. i've seen people argue that they don't need to know about earlier lore to understand the prison, but that's the equivalent of only watching the final season of pretty little liars and expecting to understand the context of what's going on.
some characters aren't that morally grey. some characters, take c!tommy for example, are definitely on the whiter side for the morality scale, he's just an asshole. he's abrasive and rude and a dickhead but he also doesn't agree with terrorism, he's patriotic, he strives for a better world, he's apologetic, but he's also a fucking BITCH.
you can add onto this if you want, but not if you're a c!dream apologist. nobody likes your opinions

GOD YOUR QUINN POST!!!! because i wholeheartedly agree and i hate that ryan murphy royally fucks up and over her character like i have so many words. i really could just talk hours and hours in depth about quinn (and rachel and faberry) and just how much injustice the girl went through. i also hate how much people donāt actually realize that quinn kind of went through the most shit compared to the rest of the characters and the story and mpst of the fandom (just glee in general not faberry) kind of just ignores that????
i could also talk for hours about them and (as my irl friends can attest to) i have. almost by accident glee developed such a compelling love story and such a
and yeah she went through so much and it's just. none of it is taken seriously. and i think part of it is glee's tonal shift partway through s1 - it started out as satire and eventually became the thing it mocked, so quinn's pregnancy, as something initially introduced as a joke/intentionally soapy plotline, got caught in a weird in-between space. like you have the objectively wacky "will's wife is orchestrating an elaborate hoax where she tricks her husband into thinking she's pregnant in order to preserve their failing marriage" right alongside dianna's heartbreaking acting and "i really thought i was going to get out of here." even within the same episode we get this tonal dissonance - "you're having my baby" happens literal minutes before quinn gets disowned. so everything about her gets kind of...muddled?
i feel like s2 managed this balance best by giving quinn a plot beyond beth without forgetting what she went through in s1 (albeit in funny ways - "oh please, she has a family, she's a MOTHER") and taking her feelings seriously but it still doesn't always land. i always thought it was a little weird that we had a very direct parallel set up in 2x18 with the nose job plot and then we never see rachel actually react to the lucy caboosey reveal. like i get that it's a crowded episode but that feels important since the two of them basically compose the a- and c-plots of the episode (kurt is the b-plot technically, though because it's a long one and the pacing is a little different there are technically four plots since emma also gets a fair amount of screentime) and their relationship - however you want to define it - is a central part of that episode. like even one scene where rachel acknowledges it would do. but eh.
glee fandom has very...out of wack priorities generally imo. like i don't know how i've ended up becoming a finn hudson defender since i don't agree with a lot of the choices the writers made with his character either but people act like he's the devil while letting other characters (p*ck) off the hook. so yeah people are hard on quinn but i feel like they're actually worse about rachel if only because they hate her in a way that they at least don't seem to openly hate quinn.
thank you for the ask!

ooo those comic asks let's go 1, 2, 9, 12, 15, 23, 34, 42 sorry that's so much i just want your comic takes
answering this was difficult bc my cat decided she needed to walk all over me and my laptop the moment you sent this
1. How has DC/Marvel/publishing company wronged you, specifically?
oh god in many ways. For dc:
>making talia evil >making cass evil and then ignorable
>making jason suddenly an antihero with no development to go from villain to hero
>letting babs walk again
>the whole mess with wally west after the reboot and the two wallys. also he hasnt talked to pied piper YET ITS BEEN YEARS
>almost everything about the n52 reboot honestly
>countdowns existence but esp the plotpoint where they took my fave minor character pied piper and handcuffed him to trickster and then had trickster be homophobic to him for most of the 52 issues; this is not treated as a bad thing. also trickster has known pied piper for years and was never homophobic before i hate dan didio
for marvel:
>constantly making the comics more like the MCU pls fucking STOP i hat you so much
>trying to make loki evil again. die.
>everything theyve done to wanda. everything. but esp making her not related to magneto again. or the incest thing in ultimates. ugh
2. What character death for the sake of drama was the worst?
dc: hmmmm most of the deaths i can think of i dont mind. i guess most ppls deaths in Heroes in Crisis, esp roy's. that was so dumb ugh. not big on them killing damian but the writing in batman and robin was rly good so it makes up for it. im sure theres someone im forgetting--oh WAIT
bart allens death in the flash it sucked so bad and one of his creators was so upset and died before bart allen was revived. that one definitely that one.
i blocked it from my mind
marvel: WANDA WANDA WANDA WANDA WANDA STOP KILLING ER OFF FOR DRAMA DEAR GODDDDDDDDDDDDD
9. Whatās the worst plotline youāve read?
oh boy. does all star batman and robin count its rly bad ghhgf i also didnt rly get checkmate (2021). also i guess theres a lot of talias bad writing that i went thru for damian ):
for marvel uhhhh i dont read enough marvel so i have nothing to say. maybe when i read house of M well say that one lol. i did read some of civil war in middle school?
12. Are there any comics youāve read knowing theyāre bad and why?
not many. all star batman and robin bc its so bad its funny. parts of rhato for that jason content but ive never finished it and i think rhato vol 2 isnt always bad.
for marvel, nah
15. Tell me about a plotline that could have been interesting if anyone else wrote it.
anything devon grayson does tbh like dealing with dicks stress over murder and guilt or him being romani (Tho him not knowing is dumb). it was so bad and racist ugh. other than that I think the spyral and ric grayson arcs coulda been good if they were like, combined maybe? and shorter. lmao
also the current robin 2021 run tbh... i think the idea of a tournment and damian grappling with guilt could be fun but the writer cares waaaaaay too much about his ocs to give damian real breathing room
speaking of damian: teen titans 2016 coulda been SO fun if they werent so racist and wanting to make damian a bad guy for caring about immigrants and people of colour lol. i rly loved what few good moments he had with wally, emiko, jackson, and the others.
for marvel... mybe trial of magneto coulda worked if the writers cared about magneto and wanda lol. or x-factor 2020 it had some good ideas but was ruined by the writers weirdness about akihiro and david... like just the racism combined with weird views of bi men lol
23. If you could erase one comic book from canon, what would it be?
oh this one is so hard.... either heroes in crisis (wally being a mass murderer) or batgirl 2011--no more abled babs she doesnt exist.
or countdown. i rly fucking hate countdown.
for marvel idk. can i just destroy the mcu instead
oh wait. ultimates avengers. pls i dont want to think about the ultimates universe maximoff twins ever AGAIN
34. Which retcon do you hate the most?
for DC, four come to mind:
>Parallax isn't Hal Jordans fault
so if u dont know hal jordan back in the 90s broke down after his city was destroyed by doomsday and he lost many loved ones. as a result he went full on villain (parallax) and ended up destroying most of the green lantern corps and caused the zero hour event
he then was killed and later came back as the hero spectre, basically being a ghost hero and trying to atone for his actions he did in the lowest point of his life
anyways later on geoff johns got the reins and revived Hal and said it wasn't hal's fult at all, he was just possessed by an evil space bug made of fear, the real Parallax.
aaaand i hate that. I hate taking away Hals role in everything and making him a victim. I dont mind the other retcons Geoff Johns did to GL lore--hell i prefer it because he really fleshed things out and added the other colours and explained the weakness to yellow even!--but I think it all could have been done without stripping Hal of any wrong doings or guilt. Its rly lame.
>Babs can walk again!
ok not rly a retcon bc she was still shot but i hate it i hate it so much die die die die die die die die
>Jason was actually a rly mean, stupid, and bad robin and no one liked him and his death was inevitable
He had his momentts of violence, yes but his anger had a trigger; he wasnt angry all the time, he was a sweet and intelligent kid who loved Bruce a lot and had a rocky relationship with Dick at first but they did eventually get along. He had a few friends, knew the titans, and was well liked by his family.
too many stories stress his violence and impulsiveness and make him out to be a bad person with at least trying to explore why he is that way and sympathsize with him.
not only that but the treating of his death as inevitable or his fault or anything like that frustrates me so fucking much bc the weight of death in the family, of its aftermath and a lonely place of dying, of under the red hood, really hinges on the fact that jasons death was a tragedy, one that shook Bruce like no other. because he lost his child who he loved!!!!!
wait fourth one
>theres two wally wests with the same powers
super lame. shoulda either made the black wally into bart allen with some explaination for the fake name or just kept the black wally and given him white wallys memories and stuff. maybe aged him up idk. it was such a cop out
for marvel. well we all kn ow what its gonna be
>WHY THE FUYCK IS MAGNETO NOT WANDA AND PIETROS DAD ANYMORE? WHAT THE FUCK? IT RUINS SO MANY STORIES AND ITS STUPID AND ITS JUST STUPID MCU BULLSHIT I HATE IT SO MUCH FUCKING UNDO IT
42. Whatās a fandom trope you hate?
oh boy.
>Dick and/or Damian get rescued by the mean racists by Bruce and/or Tim and/or Jason. Cass and Duke are mysteriously absent.
>Bruce has all his kids with him! Who's Cassandra? (....who's duke?)
>Jason was manipulated by the big mean Talia into hating his dad. He has never done anything wrong in his life, its all Talia who hates Bruce so much she wants to marry him or something idk i never read a talia comic in my life
>Redhead jason. let it fucking DIE
>tim is the best robin ever and a lil uwu bean and damian and jason are just soooo mean and always wrong esp damian whos 10
>whats a woman
>did you guys know you make Dick hot without making him a '''''slut'''' esp since hes an SA victim.....
>im so tired of jokes about republican wally esp since none of these ppl have ever read his flash run or even know who linda park or hartley rathaway are
>making jack drake way more abusive than he actually is in canon (hes neglectful at times yes) for sad white boy points or making jason a victim of CSA for sad white boy points (also you guys know someone doesnt have to have been assaulted to hate sexual assault right????)
>making tim asian and jason latino. holy racist stereotypes batman
im sure theres WAY more i could do but theyve been blocked out of my mind for now
for marvel tbh i dont deal with the marvel fandom much so!
the most i could say is
>forgetting loki is bi and genderfluid bc they wanna fuck a white cishet boy
i did all of this and realised i only talked about dc and had to go back and add marvel btw jvfdhghfdhgfdh

750 Followers Celebration - Q&A
Thank you so much for supporting me through this journey! You guys don't know how much this means to me. Every single one of you is amazing.
Below the cut are my answers to the questions that you all submitted.
Q: Do you think Jay is going to become Sergeant this season? A: There has been a lot of debate over this question because of the past few seasons and all of the "Easter eggs", like the sergeant exam poster hanging in the background of the show. In my opinion, I do not believe Jay will become Sergeant. Yet. I think it won't be until the beginning of next season because, if this is a possible storyline, I would expect that the producers and writers would make the finale of season 9 about Voight stepping down/getting promoted, etc.
Q: Did Chicago Justice deserve more episodes? A: I'm sort of split with this question. I loved the fact that there was a big episode involving Kevin, and they always included people from Med, Fire, and PD in some of the episodes. However, the whole plot of the episodes was kind of slow because it wasn't like they were police officers and could go out and chase suspects and arrest people and what not. Their job was just to gather the evidence and then present it in court. I think for many, the show fell flat because there wasn't much action, and part of me does agree with that, but the whole idea of the show itself was kind of cool.
Q: What would make you stop watching each Chicago show? A: This is a tough question because I've only ever dropped one show that I can think of, and it was only because the plotline got really dumb. Maybe if some major characters died in each show I'd stop watching it? But then again, I love the One Chicago universe so much that I don't think even that would stop me from watching. So yeah. I really don't know.
Q: Do you believe in magic? A: As much as I would love for magic to be real, I don't believe it is. But I feel like everyone thinks that way. Cause lets be honest, Harry Potter and Disney make magic look so cool. However, we all know deep down somewhere that it's almost impossible for certain things to be real, and magic just so happens to be one of them.
Q: Are you superstitious? A: I'm not the most superstitious person out there, but I do somewhat follow a few superstitions. Whenever I find a penny on the ground with heads facing up, I pick it up because I believe I'll get good luck. Doing the whole "fingers crossed" thing is something I do a lot. I believe you shouldn't open an umbrella in the house or else you'll receive bad luck. Broken mirrors are bad omens. Those are the top 4 I believe in, but other than that, I'm not really too superstitious.
Q: Is your perception of yourself similar or the same to how others perceive you? A: I mean, I would hope so. I appreciate my level of smarts, and whenever my friends acknowledge them or compliment me on them it makes my day. However, with that, people think that I'm always only doing things to boost my intelligence. For example, I love to read. So whenever I say that I didn't do much over the weekend, people always assume that I read a bunch, when I really didn't. Or that I always study for tests or do homework like a week before it's do. That is not the case. But for the most part, I believe my perception of myself is the same as how other people perceive me.
Q: Who is your favorite couple on each One Chicago show? A: Okay, so for Med, there aren't really any couples at the moment besides Maggie and Ben, whom I love but they aren't my favorite, so I'm gonna pick a past couple. When I first started Med, Manstead was my prime ship, so I'll choose them. Will had been pining after Natalie for so long so I was glad when they finally got together. For Fire, it's gotta be Kelly and Stella. They were literally made for each other, and they support each other with everything. Also, they are so cute together and all of Firehouse 51 ships them as well! And for PD, while I do love Burzek, Upstead is my favorite ship at the moment. I've seen the connection between Hailey and Jay since season 5. You don't understand how angry I was in season 7 when Hailey was so close to confessing her feelings. So season 8 made me very happy when Jay and Hailey finally got together.
Q: Jay and Lindsey or Jay and Hailey? A: I respect everyone's opinions on this matter, so hopefully you all respect mine. I thought that Erin was almost toxic in a way for Jay. She continuously broke his heart when all he wanted to do was help him. But what really does it for me is that she left Chicago without telling him goodbye. Hailey, on the other hand, has pushed Jay to seek out help when he needed it, like when she recommended he take seeing a therapist seriously to help with his PTSD, and she is always there for him, no matter what. That's why I believe Hailey and Jay are the better pairing.
Q: Which character death got to you the most? A: There have been too many sad deaths in the One Chicago world. But if I had to pick one, I've gotta go with Otis on Chicago Fire. Otis was always one of my favorite characters, even way back when I watched Fire with my dad when it was first coming out. He was witty and funny, and his friendship with Cruz was everything. So, when I watched the episode where he died, I was full on balling. I had to pause the episode for 10 minutes because I couldn't stop.
Q: Who is your favorite character on each show and why? A: I'm gonna do favorite male and female character because I've got too many favorites from each show. On Med, my favorites are Will and Natalie. Will has been my favorite since day one, and I like that he will go out of his way to help patients, even if it means he could get in serious trouble. Natalie, even though she's not in the show, always pushes for the best of care for her patients, and whenever she dealt with kids it was always the sweetest thing. On Fire, I like Kelly and Sylvie. Kelly is so headstrong and driven, and he will do anything to protect the other members of Squad 3. Sylvie is such a hard worker and you can tell she is passionate about her job. I feel so bad that she's had to go through so many partners. On PD I love Jay and Hailey. Jay has not always been my favorite male character. Back when I watched the show for the first time, I adored Adam. However, I love that Jay has such good morals and is always pushing to do the right thing even when Voight disagreed. Now, it took a few episodes for me to warm up to Hailey, but after seeing her be so badass, it was hard not to like her.
Q: Where do you get inspiration for your stories?/How do you get inspiration when there's not a request? A: This question is always hard to answer because I really don't know. Most of the time I'm fulfilling requests sent in by you guys and I just write what comes to the top of my mind. If there are requests that are not requested and I come up with them on my own, chances are I saw the plot somewhere else, like in a book or show or movie, and I just tweaked it a bit to fit the One Chicago universe. Either that happens, or while I'm trying to fall asleep, I make up random scenarios in my head, and if I find one that I really like, I'll make a note of it on my phone so I don't forget it, and then I'll write about it.
Q: Do you think Brett and Casey are endgame? Why or why not? A: I'm gonna go with yes on this one. Now, Brettsey is not one of my top ships in the universe. However, they are cute together, and I've been expecting them to get together for a while. The two of them, even when Gabby was around, had a great relationship and always cared for each other. Plus, Matt jumped out of a firetruck to go help Sylvie when the ambulance flipped. He was willing to risk an injury just to make sure she was okay. And now that they are officially together in Chicago Fire, you can see that they really love and care for each other.
Q: What inspired you to start writing? A: I always seem to get this question whenever I do a q&a, but that's okay because I don't mind talking about it. I first got into stuff like this as a reader. Basically, I went on to Wattpad and Tumblr to read other people's stories. I had no intention of creating my own. And then, one day, I started imagining myself in some of the fandoms I was apart of, and I thought, "If I'm imagining myself in these fandoms, chances are others are too," and I began creating stories that followed the plots of movies and shows exactly, just adding Y/n in it. However, that got tiring after a while because I wasn't able to have much freedom because I was following a set script, and that's when I remembered I had a Tumblr account I never used. So, I revamped my account just a little bit and started posting story ideas I had that I couldn't post on Wattpad because either they didn't fit with the stories or they were for someone I didn't write for on Wattpad. And now, here we are. For anyone interested, I've posted this before but I'll post it again, my Wattpad handle is @Writer_Reader05.
Q: Jay or Will Halstead? A: I'm sorry, but I really can't choose between the two of them. I love them both so much. Will and Jay are two of my favorite characters in the whole One Chicago universe. While they do have some qualities that I'm not the fondest of, at the end of the day, I adore the both of them, and I could never choose between them.
Q: Who would you rather date: Jay or Will Halstead? A: Why do you guys do this to me? I love them both so much! But, if I have to choose, I'm gonna pick Jay. The only reason is because I like the characters in PD more than Med, so if I'm dating Jay, chances are I'm friends with Hailey and Adam and all of Intelligence. Will is just as awesome as Jay though and I feel like sometimes people sleep on that.
Q: Which of the requested fics youāve written is your favorite? A: I think I'm gonna have to go with a Jay Halstead x reader I wrote titled Two Becomes Three. Something about the plot just makes me smile. And to think of Jay being a father......So yeah, while I have so many amazing requested fics thanks to you all, that one has to be one of my favorites.
Q: Whatās your favorite series youāve written so far? A: I love all of the series I have written. Something about creating a whole story that's more than just one part is always fun. If I have to pick one series, I'm gonna pick On the Loose. It was the first series I wrote on Tumblr and the plot of it is something I'm really proud of. However, From the Big Apple to the Windy City, Identity Loss, and Difference of Opinion are all amazing! The first two are finished series and the last one still has a few chapters left to go. Go check them out if you haven't already.
Q: What's your favorite imagine you've come up with and why? A: I don't have a lot of fics that are solely my ideas. Most of my stories have plots that were sent in by you all. However, if I had to pick a favorite out of my stories, it'd be Back Home for Christmas, a Halstead Sister fic I released when I was somewhat new to the platform. Something about writing sibling fics always makes me happy because I get to express the familial side to the characters.
Q: If you had to be roommates with 5 of your mutuals/fellow writers, who would you pick and why? A: I love all of my fellow writers/mutuals so much! I know how much work we put into whatever we post, and most of us are very active on this site. As for who I would pick to be my roommates, I'd choose @hereforhalstead @fighterkimburgess @halsteadlover @resanoona @sylviebrettsey because I feel like we'd all have great conversations, mainly over One Chicago. And every Wednesday night we'd all watch the episodes live together and experience them as a group and then freak out over what happened..........Now watch me fantasize about this all day.
Q: Do you listen to music when you write? A: It depends. On some days when I plan that I'm gonna write, then yes, I do put on some music. When there are days that I have a few minutes to spare, I don't put on music just because I'm only writing for a few minutes and I don't want to waste time. But mostly when I'm writing I do play music in the background.
Q: Do you know how your fics/stories end before you finish writing it? A: This is a really interesting question. The answer is no, I do not know how I'm gonna end a fic before I finish writing it. The only story I had a set ending for was my series On the Loose, but that one wasn't even fully planned out until I got a chapter or two in. Obviously, if I get a request that includes a set ending, like two characters get together or something like that, then I know what the ending will be. Otherwise, I have no clue.
Q: Have you ever met someone who had a very similar personality to your own? Did you get along? A: You know, I can't say that I have. Everyone is different in their own way, and that's what makes us all unique. I would imagine if I did meet someone with a similar personality we'd get along because we'd basically be a carbon copy of each other, but who knows. Maybe our similar personalities would cause us to clash.
Q: Do you hold yourself to higher standards than you hold others? A: Not really. I know myself more than anyone else so I know what my limits are and when I've reached them. With people, on the other hand, I always feel like they can be doing more with themselves and their lives. So I do not hold myself to higher standards than others.
Thank you to all of you who sent in questions! I never thought I'd reach 750 followers on this platform. The only reason I have is all thanks to you wonderful people out there!

TGF Thoughts: 5x08-- And the dĆ©tenteĀ had an end...
I did not like this episode! I had many problems with it! More under the cut...
A purple line is painted on a curb and then weāre watching footage of Wacknerās show. Question: do they only wear the costumes when itās a low profile case? It was very noticeable they didnāt have them on in the cancel culture episode, and they donāt have them on in the Julius scenes in this episode...
Also, can I pretend that the horse and cat wearing tiara are meant to be BoJack and Princess Carolyn? Ā
Del is remote-watching a focus group about Wacknerās show when Liz walks in. He refers to Wackner as āyour guyā and Liz replies, āMust not be going well if youāre calling him my guy.ā Sounds like āwhy is she my stripper when she does something bad?ā
The focus group is in Vegas āwhere the real Americans live.ā The clips from Wacknerās show being tested seem to be only the most ridiculous ones. Unsurprisingly, the focus group hates the show.
And here is my first question: Why are they testing a version of Wacknerās show that seems to be exclusively silliness? I know, you know, the writers know, and Del knows that thatās not funny.
Wackner Rules is not a good title. Ā
I love Liz being amused by the focus group going poorly.
Why donāt people like Wackner Rules? Well, the cases are stupidāfights over barking dogs, shoes that donāt fit. Theyād rather see burglary or robbery. This is silly, because while Iām sure most of Wacknerās cases are silly, we've seen a fair number of cases with a little more substance (or at least zaniness that makes them less mundane), including the one with the high profile comedian that was filmed explicitly to be part of this reality show. So is Wackner Rules, despite its cases financed by David Cord, just the most boring shit possible? And if so, why? Again, everyone involved here knows better than that.
Also is this just Delās pet project? Is that why he is producing it, testing it, and approving it?
Liz rolls her eyes at the āwisdom of the crowdā on display. Then she shuts the laptop without realizing what sheās doing and jokes around about it.
If I were Del and my partner had just disparaged my work and then shut down my laptop while I was working, I would be furious. However, this is a bad episode of a television show and I love Liz so I am amused. Ā
Del goes to fill Wackner in on how the focus group went. Wackner does not care about the opinions of twelve people. (This is funny, given that he has decided he is the most important person when it comes to making decisions and also that juries have twelve people too.)
No, dear god, no, please do not make me sit through tiny office jokes again. Have we transported back in time to season seven of TGW? I hated the door slamming against Eliās desk then and I hate the sudden addition of this ājokeā to Wacknerās chambers now. Ā
The calendar says February 2021. Is it supposed to be February? Ā
Apparently, the focus group likes the court, the costumes, and, mostly, Marissa. Just not the cases. Ā
Marissaās all, āwell what do they want, a murder case?ā and Del gives her a look like, āCan you???ā
Again, the cases werenāt so silly they were boring in any other episodes and we know that Del/Wackner/Cord were meeting to discuss the best test cases for TV. So, like, how did people waste their time and energy making this obviously awful episode of TV for the focus group? No one involved is that clueless and it makes me dislike this plot.
AND RIGHT AFTER LAST EPISODE WHERE THE CASE ESCALATED TO THE POINT OF PRISON? I think thatās maybe my biggest complaint about this plot, and this episode as a whole. The last episode gave the this season a lot of momentum. Prison! Stakes are raised! Will Marissa say anything!? How much power is too much power for Wackner?! And then we get this episode, and itās like, jk, forget about all that, now Wacknerās cases are drying up and everyone involved has zero critical thinking skills and weāre going to forget the prison thing ever happened! Ā
āHis court needs this show. Look at Trump. He wasnāt shit until The Apprentice,ā Del tells Marissa after Wackner exits. Marissa does not react to the Trump reference, which may be the low point of this episode. Does Marissa Gold want to build the next Trump!? Is Marissa Gold not concerned that someone has just suggested that the goal of her show is to make someone in to Trump!? Hello?! This is not a reference you drop casually! I would be concerned about partnering with Del if I heard this! Marissa would be too! So why isnāt she?! Ā
Also, this line + the āreal Americansā as the target audience for Wacknerās show + the USA! Chanting at the end make me think the point here is somehow supposed to be about Trump and, like, cults of personality? I donāt really see it but Iāll reserve judgement until I see where Wacknerās arc ends up.
Julius heads to Wacknerās court to meet with Cord. He pitches them on his new firm. How is Julius going to start a new firm already? Wasnāt RL the only place that would take him? And pitching Cord on a firm with the 20% of staff that was laid off is a stupid idea, too. As Cord says, hiring the people laid off means hiring the āB-Team.ā I dunno if that is actually true, but I know that Cord and anyone else who knows those were the people who were laid off will see it that way. Why is this in Juliusās business pitch? Like, is Cord wondering where Julius would get employees from? Is that a question? Ā
Reddick & Lockhart, Julius says, is no longer eligible for no-bid government contracts. I want to know why: is this because RL is actually STR Laurie, or is this because Diane is white? If the latter, then youād think weād hear a little more about it...
Why is Cord calling the Copy Coop somewhere near the courthouse in a business district in Chicago āthe middle of nowhereā? Ā
Anyway, Cord passes on the new firm because it is not innovative and it does not disrupt anything.
Then Julius pitches the firm but with known-innovator Diane Lockhart and her client list. Cord is kind of interested. Cord cares that much about Diane? Alright. Ā
Julius, after involving Diane, calls her to tell her what heās done. When he gets back to his car, he is being given a ticket for parking in a purple zone. A purple zone is, apparently, court staff parking for Wacknerās court. Ā
Julius rips up the ticket, then gets another ticket for destroying the ticket, and another ticket for destroying that ticket.
Wackner asks Marissa to find out how he can get out of the reality show. Marissa refuses and says sheās going to find out how theyāre portraying Wackner, since the show benefits him. This is because he has āfewer cases this week than the week before, and fewer than the week before that. This court goes away unless more people know youāre here.ā What? Where did that come from? Iām so confused. Last week Wackner had infinite money and a prison and was dealing with cases with settlements in the millions and famous comedians. Now his audience is dwindling and Iām supposed to care about this plotline? Thanks, but I cared about the plot you already sold me on, writers! Ā
Hey, wasnāt there a thread at some point in this season about David Lee bugging Lizās office? Odds we ever hear about that again? Ā
Diane does not like Juliusās new firm idea. āDavid Lee is insisting that I stay,ā Diane says, as though David Lee actually has that kind of power over her. Ā
Julius points out that all the other partners are threatening to resign unless Diane is replaced, and āat a certain point, it wonāt matter what David Lee says.ā Diane says sheāll think about it.
Julius tries to talk to Cord again and finds that his car has been towed. This scene is too long, and watching Julius get confused by shifting, fake rules feels a little too much like the first Memo 618 episode. This episode only has a 40-minute run-time and we spend a lot of it on building up this plot. I don't really get why. Sure, itās fun to watch people act incredulous, but we already know Wacknerās court is trying to put some muscle behind its authority (violence to encourage compliance, literal prison) so I donāt know why we need to spend so much time on what feels like a lower key bizarro version of a theme we are already aware of.
Just, like, do a boring ass case of the week episode if you donāt have ideas. Donāt regress the plotting and kill the momentum.
SPEAKING of killing momentum, remember how Carmen got a stellar introduction, a few episodes of development, and then pretty much disappeared for several consecutive episodes? Ā
Then thereās another one of these scenes where Julius tries to get his car and more and more people enforce Wacknerās fake ticket. Ā
I do not like āWacknerās City of Chicagoā being on the seal. I think he'd have something more clever than that on the seal.
David Lee calls Cord in to pitch him on bringing over all of his business. This scene confuses me, because youād think Cord would be a big get for giant corporation STR Laurie. But no, David Lee wants Cord to bring his West Coast, East Coast, and Europe business to boutique firm Reddick Lockhart. Or, at least, thatās what Cordās hesitance suggests to me.
Cord tells David Lee that Diane is leaving and that he wonāt go to a firm that is breaking apart. David Lee denies it.
THIS sounds like the Hitting the Fan score. Ā
David Lee insists that Liz and Diane drop what theyāre doing and come up to his office. They do. Ā
David asks Diane if sheās leaving. She says she was asked to join another firm, and that she was told that the equity partners are planning to resign unless she resigns, so sheās considering it.
āNo one is threatening to resign without my permission,ā David responds. Those must be some contracts if he is this powerful...
David warns Diane about poaching clients and sheās all, theyāre free to leave if they want (ah, so theyāre free to leave when youāre leaving but theyāre your clients and can be stolen when YOUāRE losing them, I see). Liz is irritated by all of this and pre-accuses Diane of stealing clients after what sheās already done to keep her position. Fair. Ā
David asks Diane what her issues are. āIām a name partner being squeezed out of the decision making process,ā she says. āAnd why is that, Diane?ā Liz asks. āBecause of my race!ā Diane insists. āBecause no one respects your decision to stay in your position. It is not yours by right,ā Liz says.
āIāve fought as hard as anyone here to keep this firm solvent. And I didnāt inherit this firm. I was invited in, and I earned...ā OOOH FINALLY WE ARE GOING TO ADDRESS THAT LIZ HAD NO EXPERIENCE RUNNING A FIRM BEFORE THIS ONE FELL INTO HER LAP. Shame itās a throwaway line. Ā
STRLās presence both adds and removes tension here. I wish they pushed this a little further. Sometimes David Lee seems to be functioning as an outside mediator; sometimes he has more power. Whatās the point of all of these dilemmas and battles if at the end of the day, STRL owns and controls everything? How much can RL really mean to them? Thereās even an RL in their name that doesn't stand for Reddick/Lockhart. I just donāt understand what it means to be a name partner in a black firm when that firm is actually controlled by some giant company. The way I see it, Diane should want out of RL because sheās past retirement age and being controlled by David Lee and that canāt be fun, and Madeline et al should want out because the mandate to focus on profit over social justice is not mostly coming from Diane or even Adrianās legacy... itās coming from the giant power and profit hungry corporation that owns you! Ā
David has Diane and Liz stand on opposite sides of his desk. āAre you gonna spank us?ā Liz says. I love funny Liz. Funny Liz is my favorite. But you know what I wish we also got more of? Lizās thought process in general.
Davidās point with this is that David is going to ācome live and work withā Diane and Liz if they donāt figure it out themselves. I know they canāt easily get out from under STRL but Adrian did it so thereās surely a way to resign... this feels so demoralizing... I canāt believe Diane just takes this. Ā
As they walk downstairs, Liz says, āIf youāre going to leave, thereās nothing to talk about. āLiz, I donāt want to leave this firm. And you donāt want me to leave. So why donāt we hire a partner to replace Boseman?ā
(1) I like that theyāre acknowledging that Liz and Diane clearly want to work together and like working together and are having this fight mostly because they have to have this fight, not because they actually want to. Pretty much nothing Liz has done suggests she actually wants Diane to step down and pretty much nothing Diane has done suggests she actually wants to switch firms. So good, thatās text instead of subtext now.
(2) Werenāt they going to hire a partner to replace Boseman in the first place? Why didnāt that just... happen then and avoid all this? Ā
Liz says sheāll think about it, but we all know that this is what she and Diane both want. This is where they shouldāve been weeks ago. Ā
OMG okay I knew they had talked about it before! In 5x02 Diane suggests this strategy from the start! Why does it go away!? Itās clearly the right strategy and doing it that early couldāve prevented a lot of conflict and tension. At this point, it feels almost too little, too late. Whatās it going to do other than smooth things over with Diane and Liz? Ā
They really are keeping the cameras rolling for Juliusās dumb parking ticket thing? Guarantee this does not make Wackner look good. As trivial as parking spaces seem, this feels like the sort of issue that would really piss off a lot of people. Maybe that would make good TV, but you want people to like and trust Wackner to keep people coming back to a reality show... Ā
Julius, being Julius, refuses to apologize to Wackner and make the whole issue go away. I think why this rubs meāand so many others; I have seen nothing but negativity about this episode among friends and on the internetāthe wrong way is that this feels like power for the sake of power. It is trivial, self-important (āWacknerās City of Chicagoā), disconnected from anything resembling reality. Thatās not to say anything else about Wackner has been realistic, but the writers have been walking a very fine line between surreal, allegorical storytelling and straining credulity. This feels so mundane and unneeded that I actually have an easier time accepting that Wackner has created his own prison system than I do accepting that heās tried to reserve parking spaces for his staff. At least with a prison, I see the larger-than-life point the writers are trying to make.
The parking attendant tells Wackner she wants to add more reserved spaces up the street and Wackner is like, oh, good! I donāt understand! Who is this lady that just wants to enforce Wacknerās rules? Does she want more spaces because itās kind of a powertrip to give people tickets? Why do they need more reserved staff parking when cases are dwindling? Who is Wacknerās staff? Why do they need more parking?
And like, itās one thing when Wacknerās antics affect people who are part of his little bubble, since they all have agreed to be there. How can he just reserve street parking? Wouldnāt this get shut down in a day? Julius would NOT be the only one furious. Ā
Then Julius decides to steal Wacknerās book of seals so he can make it look like his ticket is paid. Ā
So if they have footage from the cancel culture episode of Wackner Rules, why wouldnāt they have used it? We see it here, in the editing room, so why are the cases so boring again? (Iām sorry, I know I've said this like 1000 times, but itās bothering me so much that this episode isnāt even internally consistent.)
(This whole plot is a time-filling detour tbh. I have no problem believing Wackner Rules could be an interesting TV show seeing as how I am watching it as part of an interesting TV show, so I donāt get why we need to spend all this time on how this obviously bad first draft of the show is bad and that it can be improved by fixing a non-existent problem? Also, there are zero stakes because Del owns the show and is also the one deciding whether or not to air the show.) Ā
(Like, there could be a version of this where the focus group really helps us get into where Wacknerās stuff does and doesnāt translate and the changes heās asked to make and how the fact itās television changes the court, blah blah blah. Instead, the premise seems to be that the show is capturing what Wacknerās court was like in the days before Marissa or Cord or Del became involved, which makes no sense and is also boring!)
Theyāre mentioning Marissa being in the IDF again. This comes up because the re-edit of Wackner Rules is all about Marissa. This is kind of fun and meta! Marissa would definitely be a favorite on a reality show! Ā
It turns out this re-edit is mostly about how the editor has a huge crush on Marissa. Ā
I know that these tv writers know the process for tv writing and production better than I possibly could. I still do not believe that this reality show has one producer (Del) and an editor who is making executive decisions about the content of the show, and that this is for some reason happening in a mobile trailer parked outside of the court. Surely there would be meetings about what direction to take, not just a vague instruction to āmake it betterā? Ā
In case I needed more evidence that the writers did not bring their A-game for this episode, we get Diane talking to RBG, again, because apparently now there are no other ways to clue us in on what Dianeās thinking. This is just lazy.
The RBG thing worked for me in 5x06 because it felt like a novel way for Diane to get to talk out loud, and that episode that wouldnāt have worked if we didnāt have a way to see what Diane was thinking. Here, it feels like the writers are doing it because they did it before and it worked and itās thematically connected and itās easy. Ā
Doesnāt this entire scene just radiate laziness???? Ā
I know not every episode can be great but just donāt try to do something interesting and innovative if youāre going to half ass it. Ā
Iām not even bothered by the thought that Diane daydreams about conversations with RBG. I buy that. I just donāt need this conversation (which feels way too much like itās supposed to be an actual conversation for my taste).
OMG please stop talking about how RBG and Scalia were friends, I beg you, if youāre going to do this device again can you at least have a different conversation. Ā
So much exposition. Diane knows someone named Allegra through EMILYās List and thinks sheāll be a perfect choice for the third partner. Diane did hear she had a meltdown, though. Ā
Julius gets arrested for stealing Wacknerās sticker book. When he starts shouting about how itās a fake court, the officer is like, āAs real as Officer McFinelyās death?ā calling back to the last episode. I do find it interesting the police would be willing to overlook Wacknerās complete disregard for the law because of a grudge involving the law firm, and I like that choice. Ā
Allegra is basically a slightly more toned-down version of Elsbeth. She has a messy, rented office, and trails off mid-thought. Since sheās kind of a familiar character type, Iām not overly impressed by her, but sheāll be fine to add some little bits of humor to the office drama, I think. My hope is that they use her in small doses, because I have a low tolerance for quirk.
Allegraās office has tons of books. I canāt see what most of them are, but she has a copy of The Nix, and I liked that book! Itās the only fiction title I can spot; the rest seems like political commentary or pop sociology/business stuff. Ā
Diane mentioning her RBG hallucinations to Allegra is probably a very smart way to win over Allegra. Ā
Marissa encourages the editor, whose crush is so obvious itās uncomfortable, to put Wacknerās outburst in the show. The one about how Del is using the show to rehabilitate the comedian!? Why would Del air that?! How does this help anything?! If the goal is to get Wacknerās court more cases, why would this make anyone choose to take their case there?
The police bring Julius to Wacknerās court, which I have a slight bit of trouble believing (not that any of this is believable, but you know what I meanāI donāt feel like itās logical given everything else I know about this premise) but I'll roll with.
Now thereās some ridiculous, awful fake lawyer who was ādevilās advocateā with devil horns in the last episode and David Cord is prosecuting Julius and... what the actual fuck is going on in this scene? This Devilās Advocate man would not have lasted a second in what weāve seen of Wacknerās court before this pointāhe is an obvious liar and showman who Wackner would have no patience for. And if Cord has a bone to pick with Julius, this is an odd way of showing it, because it feels like Cord is there as a familiar face and not for a story reason. Ā
Like, does Cord actively HATE Julius? Is... that supposed to be the point of this?
Seriously though, Devilās Advocate would get like two sentences into his story about how Julius grew up poor before Wackner would make him stop, and if he got farther than that, Julius interrupting to ask āWhat are you talking about?ā wouldāve prompted Wackner to hold up that ācut the shitā card. Ā
This humor is so fucking lazy. In the worst moments of this show, they take gags that have previously been successful and run with them until you canāt believe you ever found them endearing. Thatās this scene.
Also it just occurred to me when I referenced the āCut the Shitā card that weāve seen Wackner be able to get audience responses to his cases. Seems to me like you pretty much already have your focus group results, no? You do more of the things that make the live audience excited and fewer of the things that make them get up and leave. The things that the live audience plays along with and reacts to are the catch phrases youāre going to put on merchandise. Iām not a TV producer and this is very obvious to me. Ā
Instead of telling this lying lawyer to stop, Wackner instead asks the court musician to play āThis is Us like music.ā Make it stop. I donāt know who finds this funny but itās not me!
Can you IMAGINE the fake reality show airing any of this? I dislike it and I know all of the players and context.
There is a shot of Del looking excited to see whatās going to happen. Iām sorry, but if Delās instincts are this bad I just do not believe he runs a streaming service. Maybe his main role is to do the business stuff, not the content stuff? (But if so, whyās he always hanging around Wacknerās court?)
This episode is full of extremely essential scenes, like Marissa and the editor having sex as they watch footage of Marissa. Good for Marissa, I guess? This couldāve really easily just been implied. And if you really want to give Marissa more material, give her an arc, not a hookup where the focus of the sex scene is the editor dude. Or, like, just let her react to the whole prison revelation from the last episode. WHY ARE WE NOT TALKING ABOUT HOW WACKNER IS SENDING PEOPLE TO PRISON?
Liz and Allegra meet. Allegra makes it sound like it is about her book but then sheās extremely (and intentionally, I think) obvious that sheās there to be the third partner and that Diane scouted her. Ā
What is the point of Allegra asking if Liz has a view of Willis Tower and misidentifying the building? Presumably Allegra lives in Chicago, so youād think sheād know its most recognizable building by sight (and would probably also call it the Sears Tower). Ā
Liz likes Allegra. Ā
Now there are a ton of cops in court and Del is loving the drama. Sure, itās dramatic, but is this really want you want to air? Some convoluted thing where a bunch of police officers intimidate a lawyer who works at a firm that was unfairly linked to a cop killing because that lawyer refused to pay a parking ticket issued by a fake court? Who... who is this for?! Whatās the angle? Who is amused by this? Ā
Marissa sees Julius is the defendant and jumps into action. She asks Wackner why heās prosecuting Julius and he says itās his job. She argues that Julius is from their firm and this is bullshit. Wackner still wonāt let him go.
If Julius is from the firm and Wackner employs the firm, is Julius NOT covered under the court employee banner? Why do I even care.
Wackner acts like heās just not bending the rules, just like Marissa wanted. Iām not interested in this enough to decide whether I agree that this is consistent or think this is actually a different scenario. I just want to be done with this episode so I can forget about it.
I imagineāmaybe hope is a better wordāthat this episode is bad because itās hard to write five great episodes in a row without kind of phoning one in. I wish this episode didnāt kill the momentum coming out of 5x07 but Iām hoping that it is an isolated issue and not a drop in quality that will also spoil 5x09 and 5x10.
Wackner closes the door on Marissa, which I think is supposed to be meaningful, and Marissa calls Diane down to Wacknerās court to help Julius. Ā
Diane and Liz both go to court. āIām about to be sent to prison for parking in a purple zone,ā Julius explains. āWhat does that mean?ā Diane asks. āIf I explained it to you, it wouldnāt make any more sense,ā Julius says.
Oh so now we remember that Wacknerās prison exists. When I said I wanted more about it, I didnāt mean that I wanted it looming as a threat... I meant I wanted to explore what it meant that Wackner was promoting prisons...
Diane asks if they should call the police, āthe real ones.ā I like that it takes her a second longer than Liz and Julius to understand the cops are real. Liz also notes that the SAās office wonāt help either because they might be happy with anything that fucks with RL. This scene is decent. Some of the themes in here are decent. It just feels poorly timed and with the emphasis in the wrong place. I imagine the goal here is to show that Wackner is now more concerned with enforcement than with the process for trials, and that enforcement brings with it a lot of uncomfortable questions. I wish that weād spend less time on the incredulous reactions and silliness and more time reckoning with those questions. Ā
The next focus group likes the Wackner anger outburst, because, in Delās mind, they want to see Wackner care about something. Does Del have the worst judgment ever? Wackner looks invested in every single thing he doesāhow could anyone accuse him of not seeming like he cares? His whole thing, the whole thing that got Delās attention, is that he pays each case the kind of individualized attention it deserves. Now he only looks like he cares if he blows up? Even if the thing heās caring about in the explosion in question is his own reputation? Is Del trying to make Wackner into a mid-2010s anti-hero? And if so... why?
Wacknerās outburst that accuses Del of corruption is apparently so good it got an unprecedented ā95%ā from the focus group. Sure. Why not. Ā
Then Del tells him to keep doing cases ājust like thisā and theyāll keep the court going. Does that mean just like the ALREADY HIGH PROFILE AND ALREADY HAND PICKED FOR TELEVISION cancel culture case, or cases like the Julius case? If the first, well, duh, thatās why they picked that case in the first place. If the second, again, why?
āYou and your colleagues think you get to decide when and how justice is determined. You think it is your right to make and break the rules as you see fit,ā Wackner says to Julius. UM, WACKNER, THAT IS LITERALLY YOUR ENTIRE DEAL??????????????????????????? Ā
Thatās the point, right????? Please tell me the point of this is that Wackner is supposed to look totally hypocritical and like an egomaniac who thinks his own judgment should not be questioned but everyone elseās should be????????????????????????? If this line isnāt meant to be supremely ironic I... I wouldnāt even know where to start. Ā
āThe law belongs to the people,ā Wackner says, and the cops start chanting, āUSA!ā. What?! Ā
And then we cut away from this and suddenly weāre welcoming Allegra to the firm and... did I miss an entire episode or something? What happened with Julius? Why are Liz and Diane smiling? How did Diane and Lizās conversation about Allegra go? Did the other partners agree to this? Did David Lee? This is a very big development! I need more! Ā
Madeline seems welcoming towards Allegra. She and another partner are still suspicious of Diane because they have seen right through this strategy. So... I guess we arenāt done with this arc yet. Ā
Aw, Liz has a picture of herself with her son when he was a baby on her desk. Ā
Diane and Liz drop Wackner as a client. It takes longer than it should for Marissaās name to come up in this conversation. Ā
If you were wondering about the Julius case we spent most of the episode building up, itās resolved off screen by Wackner releasing Julius with time served. Why? Donāt know. Did it seem like it was headed that way during anything we previously saw? Nope. Ā
Wackner wonāt let Diane and Liz back out, saying he gets to choose his representation (does it REALLY work this way?) and also, probably more importantly, that they wonāt be able to get all of Cordās business if they piss him off by dropping Wackner. Ā
Wackner also notes that they picked up his pilot. Iām sorry, what? Del didnāt just decide that the series he created for his streaming platform would be straight to series? That whole little āWackner doesnāt test wellā plot was resolved by showing an episode with the COTW they obviously shouldāve shown from the start and then Wackner made a total of zero changes to his behavior or attitude and now the show is a huge success? What was the POINT? Why did I just watch that?! Ā
āFuck,ā Liz says as the episode ends. Ā
Iāve kinda always thought this, but itās worth saying again: Madeline and company should resign from the firm. BOTH RL and STRL care more about profit than anything else. Liz and Diane want to work together. Liz and Diane both take the threat of losing Cordās business seriously. If Madeline wants a firm thatās focused on social justice, it doesnāt matter if Diane is name partner or not. Liz is probably even faster than Diane to decide things based on money, and even if she werenāt, STRL owns them! Plus, I have a feeling that Diane, her clients, Liz, and Cord are probably individually worth more to STRL than Madeline and the other partners combined. If Allegra is down to pursue profit and deal with corporate overlords too, then Madeline and the others matter even less to STRL. Just cut your losses and start the firm you want to start. At this point it wonāt even compete with RL. Ā
Donāt get me started on this absolutely idiotic title sequence for Wackner Rules. Iām sure this is someoneās idea of a joke. If I take it seriously, then I have to write about how it is even worse than all of the things I just complained about for the entirety of this recap, and honestly, Iām exhausted. Ā

@the-wip-project day 35:
I don't know what today's question is but I gotta write a wall of text about what happened last night because holy shit
I was on the verge of falling asleep and, like I usually do, I decided to hunt for some spicy fanfics to read on my phone. I found one.
All my posts are long but this one is real fucking long. CW for touching on dub-con and injury mentioned in the type of context it probably shouldn't be.
It's time for me to admit that not only am I a oneshot writer, I'm also a oneshot reader. I am drawn to short fanfics. If I click on a chaptered fic, it's (usually) because it's rated E for smut and I'll go in with every intention of skimming it for the spicy bits. I'm not proud of this. I've avoided saying this for years because I don't want to disappoint people who work hard on their very long and well thought out chaptered stories. I have a short attention span, and I know what I want.
But anyway, last night I clicked on a fic with 5 chapters and some amount of words, around 30k? Long, by my standards, but I was tired and I just wanted something to read while I dozed off.
This particular fic hooked me in, though. I still skimmed it, but the writing was so unique in a way that made me writhe with writer's envy and admiration. Whoever wrote this had their own language - nothing borrowed - their own vision.
I guess I should tell the good people who read my posts (ya'll, seriously, thank you) that the fic in topic is called Fault Lines by Recidiva on AO3. I would link to it but uhhhh I may be using my work PC for "extracurricular purposes" right this moment ^^; so maybe when I get home I'll remember to add it.
I skimmed it - like I said above - for the spicy parts. It generally follows the plot of Bioware's canon. Thane begins as possessive and manipulative, likely uncomfortably close to dub-con for a lot of people. He kisses her and knows full well that his kiss will make her willing but intoxicated, and how he will use that to fulfil himself. But as the story progresses, he falls in love. Their relationship is what I'll call "edgy." Both of them are renegades. There's a scene where they get down in the shuttle after a fight and they're both still injured and it borders on downright unrealistic but fuck it, it's fanfic and I bought it. However their relationship develops a certain heart-wrenching tenderness. She asks him what Siha means over and over again, and eventually tells him she thinks "bitch" when he says it. But in that moment they have a playful banter, he knows full well she's probably already looked it up on the extranet, and they fall into bed together. The smut is mind-boggling.
By the time it gets to Shepard's arrest, he's taken up a place on Earth and visits her, breaks into her house arrest. There's a scene where they see each other for the first time in a while, she tells him how much she's missed his mouth and how it's not right how bad she wants him, and wants him bad enough to smother him with affection. She says something to the effect of "if you're looking to die, I'd volunteer to be the cause," implying that her lust is powerful enough to endanger his life. And it was at this moment I realized I fucked up.
It's established that I live in my own headcanon and I'm not burdened with considering the end of Thane's life as part of my fics. And the suspension of disbelief was such that I forgot he doesn't make it. So at this moment in the fic, chapter 4 out of 5, I realized "Oh shit this isn't going to have a happy ending." I skipped to the end right away, I wanted to confirm my fears.
In their final exchange, she asks him to lie to her - something that's repeated in other chapters of the story. I forget what he says, I was reading desperately, but he asks her in return to tell him something true. She kisses him and tells him she loves him, and he breathes his last breath with the lingering tingle of their kiss to carry him to the other side.
I was so entrenched in the depth of their relationship up to that point. The level of fathomless love the author conveyed, unlike anything I've ever managed to write before, but more realistic to my own understanding of love as I've experienced it. Not because they're renegades, but just the selflessness with which they feel, communicate, banter, and make love.
When I read that last paragraph, something inside me broke. That sounds dramatic but that's honestly how I would describe it. It felt like waking up from a night terror, when you bolt up in bed from a dream so bad you immediately get up even if it's 4am because nothing feels real and you're so terrified you have to get up and do something - literally anything to take your mind off it, to ease you back into reality. I put my phone down and stared into the darkness of my bedroom and told myself "it's just a fanfic, no need to get upset." And then I started to cry and I didn't stop for 30 minutes.
My husband was downstairs watching Bohemian Rhapsody and I went down there and wrapped myself around him so tight and cried. Bless this man, from the bottom of my heart - bless him - for his unfathomable kindness. I felt like a fucking fool because I was crying over fanfiction but he paused his movie and just listened while I tried to articulate how it wasn't exactly about the character death, or the characters at all, it was just the writing and how it wormed into my brain so convincingly. I felt the loss like it was my own loss. I am terrified of losing my husband. So many feelings coalesced and I realized one day I may be in that situation, kissing the man I love goodbye for the last time, never to hold him again. I'm at work right now and I'm tearing up because it's so hard.
I tip my hat to the author, but I genuinely wished I hadn't read that fanfic. And isn't it kind of funny after that grandstand I took yesterday about not wanting to write the pain of loss and grief, that I ended up reading it instead and probably fucking myself up just as badly, if not worse, than if I had tried to write it myself?
It gets worse, too. Because it got me thinking about my own writing, and how I could never hope to achieve what that author did. So I sat there crying out my painfeelings while simultaneously feeling like a shit writer and like nothing I put out matters. I got up from the couch, sat down at my PC and picked up where I left off in the Omega DLC in ME3 because video games are great for taking the mind off things. It didn't exactly help with the intensity I'd hoped for, but I managed to fall asleep, by 3am.
Fast forward to this morning. I dragged my sorry ass out of bed 4 hours later and drove to work. By some fucking miracle, no one is here right now except our field director. And I'm stewing in how this one fic really fucked me up bad, reconsidering everything. I feel like I've been put in my place.
So what changed?
Yesterday I posted about how I'm struggling to write a plotline. I know what happens, but I'm not interested in the little bits that tie it together. I want to write the romance. I think there's a way to write the plot and the romance at the same time, but it's damn hard.
I started doing this because I wanted to grow my skills as a writer, and I knew it might be more than I could chew. I'm at that moment now where I'm about ready to give up.
Even if I felt like a shit writer last night (and still kinda do this morning), I know that the stuff I've put out has value. We can't all write these epically tragic smut-romance-renegades-to-lovers tales, we'd all be sad all the damn time. There's a time and a place and - I would argue - even a need for lighterhearted fic out there. There are really no rules. I'm confident in what I know how to do.
But the plot. Fuck it, man. I think maybe I'm trying too hard to be something I'm not. I'm trying really hard to write like other people. I may have mentioned before that I saw a post about how many artists spend their time pining for the skills of others, thinking "wow, when I can draw like that, I'll have made it as an artist." That same post cautioned against this, basically saying you already have your own unique style, it's just harder to see through the lens of your own eyeballs. It's fine to challenge yourself but try to acknowledge what you do that sets you apart already. I feel like I have that something - maybe not to the extent that I wish, but I have something.
So what's the point of the plot? Why do I need to tell my readers how I cured Keprals? I'm asking myself important questions here. I like to think I've come up with ideas that no one else has, but as I said above, I don't read a lot of chaptered fics. I very well may have come to the same ideas as other writers and I'm not even aware of it. I don't know if my ideas are unique but I still arrived at them all by myself.
The challenge here - the thing I'm struggling so much with - is how to put them together with the same elegance of my fellow writers. I'm looking at you, shrios fam (yeah I'm calling you that, yall know who you are). I know I can write words, but it's like I have a bunch of pieces from completely different jigsaw puzzles and I'm struggling to make a new picture out of them. I struggle with the transitions between them.
The point here is I have to find my own way. And I have to stop taking myself so seriously. In fact this level of "seriousness" is one of the things that got me into so much angst over World of Warcraft over the last two years. At least I know how to recognize it.
I have to find my own way. I have my own things that are worth sharing. The author I read last night had a language all their own, and I have a language all my own too. Their wordplay was actually more choppy than I would ever write. I've talked before about how I'm scared of starting too many sentences with pronouns, how I maybe write too many run-on sentences, whatever. This author did that with reckless abandon. It worked for them. So if they can make that shit work, I can make my own shit work.
I have to find my own way.
My most current WIP is Thane and Shepard's first time. I've been working on it pretty nonchalantly because I hadn't intended to publish it until I built up to it. It takes place further into my timeline, and it would probably ruin the point of a slow burn if I put it out there now. There are some really memorably moments in this WIP, and there are other moments that need to be smoothed over as well. I never knew what I'd really imagined for their first time but I think I've mostly developed something that's unique in its own right, and I think will be fun for people to read.
I'm just so fucking torn over what to do with it. I feel guilty for working on it. I should be writing "other shit" leading up to it but I don't fucking want to. I actually wrote probably 2-3k words this weekend, which is a pretty staggering amount by my standards. Some of it was for this smutty WIP and some was for something I just threw together, Thane observing Shepard on Horizon and the emotional toll it takes on her. He's seeing her humanity. I don't know if it's worth it to continue but I wrote a lot of it and the words are more precise than usual for a draft, I don't know. I have so much fucking insecurity. Fuck dude. I want to write this longfic, but I don't want to write it. I want to skim to the spicy bits like I always do.
I am wracked with insecurity, of my own making. I know what I can do but I feel compelled to see this idea through. Somehow I have to find my own way.
TLDR I feel like if I don't publish something soon I'm going to burst and I don't even know what the fuck to work on first and fjslfjsojoiejrj
I would be really down for, like, a bunch of hugs and a bowl of ice cream shared over memes and fanservice.
#this post is EXTREMELY fucking long send help#ITT: i read something that probably changed my brain chemistry for a few hours and it's painful#zet vs 100days#i'm just glad to get this off my chest good lord#anyway if people want to send me links to their favorite shrios fluff i would welcome it

Riverdale 4x18 Review, Analysis and Theories
Iāve finally watched the episode and Iāve got alot of thoughts about it. To be honest it went pretty much the way I thought it would, mostly. Weāve been given some more information and a whole lot more questions. There were four plotlines in the episode, two main ones and two sideplots, so I figured we could go through each one and unpack them to see what clues weāve been left this time. So if you want to read an analysis of the episode and get my opinions and theories then read on below the tag. As always these are just my own opinions you are welcome to disagree also there are spoilers obviously.
Jughead, Charles and the Video Tapes.Ā
So the first plotline I want to talk about is the one where Jughead and Charles are invesitgating the tapes. The episode starts out with Jughead showing Betty, Alice and Charles the newest videotape that he found at the end of the last episode. A couple of sidenotes here which arenāt all that relevant but I figured Iād mention anyway. I love how protective everyone was of Jelly Bean. Even Charles who stood up to block the her view of the tv. But also where was FP? I feel like this is something he should be included in so it was a bit odd that he was missing from the scene. They could have at least mentioned him like said he was investigating it from the station or something. Anyway getting back to it. Jughead asks Betty if she wants to help him look into the tape but Betty says she doesnāt want to get pulled into another mystery. This is when Charles decides to suggest that Jughead and he could investigate it together. I loved that Charles called Jug little brother. I just thought it was really sweet. Also I would like to see more of the Jones/Cooper/Smith family interactions. Whilst weāve gotten a decent amount of Charles/Betty and Charles/Jughead sibling bonding moments we havenāt gotten as many with Charles and his parents and other than this brief one I donāt think weāve had any with Jelly Bean and Charles so I wouldnāt object to seeing those relationships developed a little more. Also I would like to point out that while it was really nice that Charles is always offering for Betty and Jughead to help him out with the investigation, I canāt help but think that Charles has an ulterior motive for this. I mentioned in my theory post about Charles and the video tapes (which you can read here if you want) that I think Charles sees Betty and Jughead as loose cannons. When they first meet Charles he says something likeĀ āI hear you two are quite the detective duo.ā Or something along those lines. I actually think Charles keeps asking for their help so that he can keep an eye on what theyāre doing and make sure they donāt do anything to mess up the FBIās own investigation into the tapes. I mean think about it, if Charles gets them working with him then he knows where they are and what they are doing, so he knows they arenāt gallivanting around town getting themselves into all kinds of mischief, classic big brother move.Ā Ā
Through Charles we learn that there are two drop off boxes where people can turn in the tapes they recieve. One at the Sheriff station and one at the FBI office. They are both monitored with cctv cameras but there are hours upon hours of footage so Jughead and Charles decide to make some popcorn and go through all the footage in the hopes they can find some clue as to who left the murder video tape. Also can I just say that this episode made me remember why I love Jughead there were just so many little moments that were, well I donāt know how else to describe them other than they were very Jughead. Like I donāt know what was funnier that Jugheadās response to facing hours of footage seraching for a potential killer isĀ ādo you have popcorn?ā or the fact that yes the FBI does have popcorn. Maybe its just me but I just got a chuckle out of that. Anyway while going through the footage Jughead does spot someone he knows and decides to follow the lead alone. Of course we learn that Ethel is the person he sees leaving a tape behind. But before we get into that I want to talk about something else I noticed. When Jug is leaving the camera pans down to show us Charlesā laptop with the cctv footage. Now they had to have done this for a reason there had to have been something in that segment of cctv that is important to the plot. The footage is very grainy and sped up but we see a woman enter the building. She walks down the hall, appears to stop briefly to talk to whoever is at the desk at the end of the hall, This person seems to gesture around the corner. The woman disappears around the corner and then a few moments later reappears, walks back towards the camera and leaves. I managed to grab a couple of screenshots of this footage.Ā
If youāve read my last theory post where I talk about theories around both Charles and the Voyeur (the one I linked above) then you will know I have a theory that Donna is the one behind the tapes and also the one who is wearing the Betty mask. Now I know the image is really grainy but to me this looks like a female with long dark hair who is wearing a jacket and trousers very similar in style to what Donna wears. Her build also seems very similar to Donnaās aswell. I mean...
Iām just saying the woman in the cctv, the woman in the betty mask and Donna all look real similar to me. As for why Charles didnāt recognise her, well as we can see the image isnāt the best, it was sped up and he could have been distracted by Jug saying he saw someone he knew. We donāt see where he is looking so for all we know he might have been watching Jug leave and not at the computer screen, point is he could have just missed it. Also another thing worth noting is that right before the footage is shown Charles asks ādo you recognise someone?ā Obviously he is directing the question at Jughead but it could also be the writers way of asking us the same question, do we the viewer recognise someone in this footage.
So Jughead goes off and talks to Ethel about the tapes and she says she was just dropping off the tapes that had been left on her doorstep, that they contained the same as all the others, static footage of her home. She gets upset when Jughead tells her that one of the tapes was different and asks if she knows anything about it. One thing I will say is her lineĀ āIām just trying to make it out of Riverdale in one piece.ā really resonated. Like it really makes you think how much crap these kids have gone through with all the murders and cults. It is almost like its more of an achievement for them to reach adulthood than normal because so many of them could have been killed by one of the many serial killers that have rampaged through the town. Also I feel like a lot of the kids in Riverdale see college as being a way to escape from Riverdale.Ā
After talking to Ethel Jughead comes up with the idea that maybe the Voyeur is a film maker, so he and Charles hit the video store. I do love the store owners line when Charles asks if any of his customers were acting suspicious and he repliesĀ āthey all act suspicious.ā I do think the writers might be having a little laugh with us here because its very true for Riverdale as a whole, like every character on this show acts shady as hell most of the time. The store owner gives them their records and they discover that Ethel has rented the horror movie Friday the 13th sixteen times. Charles then tells Jughead that he considers Ethel to be a prime suspect as she has a predilection for horror movies, was seen dropping off a tape and as per Jugheadās admission an obsession with him. But Jughead clearly doesnāt want to upset the progress Ethel seems to have made and points out that he doesnāt think she would have the equipment for it and tells Charles to drop it. When heās next at school Jughead goes to the office to get info on the AV club, the members of which would have access to the equipment needed to make the video tapes. He not only learns that Ethel is the president of the club but that Charles had already been there asking questions and had already left with Ethel. Jug goes back to the FBI office to find out what happened from Charles and finds out that Ethel had somehow got ahold of the sex tape of him and Betty from Stonewall prep. Now I have seen some comments saying that they think Charles going after Ethel alone was really shady and that it could mean he has something to do with the video tapes. Iām not saying that he doesnāt have something to do with the tapes, its could be a possibilty, but out of all the shady behaviour weāve seen from Charles in my opinion this wasnāt shady at all. I think because we see everything from Jugheadās point of view its easy to forget that its not a case of Jughead is leading an investigation and Charles is helping out but the other way around. Charles is the lead on the investigation into the tapes, heās the FBI agent. So if he thinks someone is a suspect heās not just going to drop that lead just because some teenage kid said he should, even if that kid is his brother. Also can I say that this is such a Jones/Cooper thing to do, they get told not to do something and then the next scene you find out they did the exact thing they were told not to. We see it with Betty and Jughead all the time so it was kinda funny to see the same thing happen to Jughead in a role reversal. It was a good thing he didnāt drop it too as if Charles hadnāt gone and searched Ethelās home they probably wouldnāt have found out about the Scarlet Room.Ā
So speaking of the Scarlet Room it shows that there is an even darker side to Riverdale if that was even possible, this is a definitely x rated room in the back of the store where they have home made videos. The store owner says sometimes people sell the videos and sometimes they trade them. But these tapes consist of some sex tapes, rougher ones and weirder ones but also more sinister than that snuff films which Jug finds. I was able to catch some of the titles which could be clues as to which other murders might be re-enacted next. The one of Jason Blossom is called a Maple Murder which is pretty self explanatory. There is one called Black Hood Unmasked which I think could be Mr Svensons death. The Blackhood Diaries is another self-explanatory one. Thereās another called Carrie the... I canāt make out the rest of the title but that one is clearly Midgeās death. Then thereās one called Popās After Hours which I reckon is from the Halloween episode where Veronica kills that serial killer in self defense. The curious thing about Jason Blossomās murder being there though is that as far as we know there are only three copies of that footage. Betty has one on her laptop and Cheryl has the other on a USB. The third from what I remember was given to the police, I canāt remember what happened to it after that but I think the Blossoms asked for it to be destroyed? Sorry if Iām wrong about that. So if only those copies existed then how did one end up in the store. Well I do have one theory for that. We know that Betty gave Chic one of her old laptops, now Iām going to assume she wouldnāt have been careless enough to leave that footage on the laptop if it was ever on that one but you never know, we also know that Chic was in the house alot when Betty wasnāt there and he liked to sneak into her room. Itās possible that Chic found the video and took a copy to the store to get some extra cash. But the Scarlet room as a whole is a very creepy idea, that people including Students like Ethel are going in there and renting footage of people being brutally murdered, I mean no wonder there are so many serial killers in Riverdale cause thatās just messed up. On a side note I thought it was absolutley hilarious when the store owner came in and told Jughead that only over 18ā²s were allowed back there. Like dude you are being invesitgated by the FBI and theyāve just found your highly illegal collection of homemade sex and snuff films and you think telling them that only 18 and overs are allowed in this section is going to save you. So anyway the FBI confiscates all the videos so lets just say the FBI have now got a ridiculous amount of video tapes at that office what between these ones and the ones collected from the town residents. But I do feel like the Scarlet Room tapes are going to be important to the plotline in some way like theyāll find some kind of clue in them.Ā
The episode ends with Jughead getting a call from Cheryl who says she just got a tape. When he and Betty go over there they find out its the same kind of thing as the one Jughead found. Two people in masks re-enacting Jason Blossomās murder. There is something I want to cover quickly before we analyse the tape itself but there does seem to be some confusion over whether these tapes are actually real or just acting. I mean Jughead calls the tape he got a faux snuff film and talks about how whoever filmed it went through the trouble of hiring actors. It also does seem like the person wearing Jasonās mask in the newest video is acting along. If they arenāt real it would also explain why there havenāt been any bodies showing up or missing people reported. Yet I get the feeling that these are real, I mean they look very real to me, particualrly the one with Jason. As to why it looks like the one wearing the Jason mask is acting well they either could be under duress told this is the script play along or else, or it could be that they didnāt know what was actually going to happen, maybe they thought that the gun was fake or that the other person wasnāt going to actually pull the trigger which is why they seem so relaxed and calm right before they are shot. I donāt know though maybe it is all fake? What do you think?Ā
But the discovery of this lastest tape raises some more questions. Once again we have two masked individuals which begs the question who are the people behind the masks? One thing we do know is that its not the same people as the first video. The attacker in the first video was definitely a woman and was much shorter than the attacker in the latest one. Also the murder victims in both are also definitely different people, the one in the first video who was dressed as Jughead was much more muscular than the one in the Jason mask who had a much slimer build. This could also maybe be evidence that its possible these really are murders going on. I mean if the first guy really was killed then obviously he canāt be in the second video. To be honest I donāt have any idea who could behind the Jason mask, at all.Ā Ā
Ok but who do I think is behind the Cliff mask. Well here I do have a theory and it ties in another of the plotlines from this episode. The tickle ring one. I donāt think its a coincidence that its in this episode that Terry, the one who approached Kevin and who films them, suddenly turned violent. I mean up until now heās come across as a decent guy by Riverdale standards. Now heās threatening to break peoples fingers and issuing threats. Also it is worth noting that when Jughead says maybe the voyeur is a film maker the very next scene is the one where Terry comes out the room and pays Kevin, Fangs and Reggie. The writers are being very obvious with the message here I mean its like Jughead: Maybe its a film maker? Riverdale: Look its a film maker! I mean they couldnāt be more obvious if they put a neon sign above Terryās head that said guilty. So is there anymore evidence to suggest Terry is the one in the Cliff mask? Well I grabbed some more screenshots.Ā
Ā So we have that same old problem of the qualtiy of the images in these tapes that are being left arenāt great, it does take me back to the good old days of vcr oh the nostalgia but Iām going off track. Despite the bad quality we can still get some clues from the image. Now it is a little differcult because of the lighting in the video tape is bad but take a look at the top two images in the grid above. As it was with my Donna behind the Betty mask theory its the hair that I think is the biggest clue here. There isnāt really anyone else weāve seen in the show that has this style of hair where its longer on top and fades at the sides. I mean I donāt know about you guys but I do think the hair of the guy in the Cliff mask is very similar to Terryās. Now obviously we canāt just convict a man based on his hair style. If we look at the two bottom images. I know it is hard to see the video tape image all that well but I have watched it over and over on slow motion and they do seem to be similar in build and height. The other problem we have comparing the two images is that while its useful that weāve got a shot of Terry standing next to someone seated like the people in the tape, the sofa that Fangs is sitting on is much lower than the chair the masked Jason is sitting on, plus you have to take the height of the individuals themselves into consideration. But taking all that into consideration lets look at a bigger image...
As I said the difficulty we have is that Fangs is sitting on a much lower surface than the masked Jason. But lets have a bit of fun and do some estimations. Lets say the blue line on the picture on the right is the approximate height the seat of the chair masked Jason is sitting on. The black line is the length of Fangās torso from his seat to his head. The green line is the height at which the top of his head would be if he was sitting on a higher surface. Now I know this is very much an estimation and not all that accurate its more just to give us an idea. But I think Fangs and the masked Jason seem to be of similar height so when we compare the two images we can see that the height difference between masked CliffĀ and a seated individual is roughly the same height difference as Terry when standing next to a seated individual. Also something else that could suggest Terry might be involved is that he would be able to get the actors who are playing the victims. He already has a client pool he could pull from. It wouldnāt be that much of a leap to think that he might approach one of his tickle boys and say do you want to get a little extra cash? Iām working on another project if youāre interested.Ā
What if it isnāt Terry though. Who else could it be? Well the other person we are shown acting suspect in this episode is Mr Honey is shown to be someone who visits the Scarlet Room and it seems he does this regularly. I did think there was something about the way the masked Cliff moved that reminded me of Mr Honey but in my opinion I donāt think the hair style or height of the indivdual fits with Mr Honey as well as Terry. Also we know the person in the mask is imitating Cliff and so is mimicing the way Cliff would move which I think just happens to be similar to Mr Honey. However I donāt think that necessarily means Mr Honey is innocent and Iām going to cover my theory on that in a bit. The other person I thought it could potentially be is Bret. As I said in my theory about the Stonies having something to do with the tapes, we donāt know when these tapes were filmed or even where they were filmed. It could be that this was filmed before Bret was arrested. However while I think height wise it could be Bret the hair style is completely different from Bretās who has much longer hair.Ā Ā Ā
Now going back to my previous theory post where I said I was pretty certain that it would turn out to be Donna behind the tapes, you could say that this newest tape derails that theory as there is no link between Cheryl and Donna. So why would she bother making a re-enactment of Cherylās twin brotherās murder? Donna might have had a motive with the previous video depicting Betty and Jughead its no secret she hates them both. But on the contrary I actually would argue that the appearance of this tape further confirms my theory. While itās true there is no link between Donna and Cheryl there is a link between Donna and the Jason Blossom murder. When Jughead wrote his first draft for the Baxter Brother novel, the one that originally won him the contract it was based on Jasonās murder, it was called The Boy in the River. Later they tell Jughead that they donāt think its good enough after all and he starts writing one based on the Black Hood instead. But he finds his original draft based on Jason in a envelope saying ready for publish. He discovers that it has been rewritten but that it is the same story. Dupont later tells him that all of his classmates had a go at rewriting it, this includes Donna. This means that Donna became real familiar with Jasonās story. The premise of my original theory was that I believed that Donna was upset that she wasnāt able to commit the perfect murder. Especially as she was so close, I mean Jughead says himself that it would have been perfect if it werenāt for the fact that he didnāt actually die. I think Donna then decided to have another go at the perfect murder. A do over so to speak. Like I said we donāt know when that first copy cat murder video was filmed. If it was quite a while ago then its possible that Donna believed she had got away with it and so she looked at other imperfect murders that she could make perfect. I mean if you think about it like Jugheadās attempted murder Jasonās murder was very nearly perfect. Cliff so very nearly got away with it, from killing Jason after he was already reported missing by Cheryl, to having FP clean up and then take the wrap for it. The only reason he didnāt get away with it was because of one tiny detail, the fact that the footage of the actual murder was out there and the USB was found. If my theory is right then I think Donna is only going to continue looking for murders to redo. I think sheās going to become addicted to it and weāll start to see more and more of these copycat murders. Also I had a thought about why if these are real murders there arenāt any bodies. Weāve been told on a couple of occasions that you can dissolve a body with Lye. As Donna says to BettyĀ āNo body, No crime.ā Itās possible sheās been dissolving the bodies with lye so there isnāt anything to find. Also if she is picking the victims right then there wonāt be any missing person reports espicially if she is choosing people from out of town and then releasing the videos in Riverdale. The authorities might not be making the connection.Ā
So if Iām sticking with my its Donna theory how do I explain that it definitely wasnāt Donna in the latest video. I mean it was without a doubt a male right? Well we know that Donna works with a group. Sheās the mastermind but she needs her disciples. I think she started this with the Stonies where they released the videos of peoples houses, most likely this started out as a prank. We know that the Stonies liked to pull some pretty crazy pranks like locking people in coffins overnight, we also know there seemed to be a little bit of a rivalry between Stonewall and Riverdale high schools. We also know that they were filming their fellow classmates, it wasnāt just Betty and Jughead and Moose. There were tons of illegally recorded tapes it seemed like quite the extensive operation. We also know that some of those tapes ended up in the Scarlet Room. But Donnaās got a problem now. Her disciples have either left the country are dead or are in jail. So she needs to find new ones. I think sheās formed a new group and I think this group consists of Terry and Mr Honey. I think Terry helps out by getting the victims. Heās got a wide pool of employeeās who do films for him, he could easily get people from out of town who would sit down in a chair and be tied up and think nothing of it just assuming its part of some weird kink, because I refuse to believe innocent tickle porn is that only kind of video that man shoots. I also think that he was the one in the Cliff mask. As for Mr Honey Iām not as sure on what his role could be. But we do know that Donna has worked with a teacher for nefarious reasons in the past so it wouldnāt be unreasonable to say that she could be doing it again. He could possibly be the delivery guy. Maybe heās the one going around putting the tapes on doorsteps now. It would be much less suspicious for someone to see Mr Honey about Riverdale than Donna or Terry. He could also be dropping some off at the Scarlet Room. Speaking of I do think this could be where they all met/ connected. I mean as a film maker it wouldnāt be unusual for Terry to sell some videos to the store. We know Mr Honey visits the Scarlet Room. As for Donna while Jughead assumes the tape of him and Betty was put there by Bret, Donna had admitted to seeing the tape so its just as likely that it could have been her that put it there.Ā
Maple Rum Snoosefest.
So I figured Iād cover Veronicaās and Cherylās Maple Rum storyline here as to be honest I donāt have alot to say about it. Unlike the tickle ring stroyline which could potentially have some relevance to the main plot, I just donāt see how this one fits in. To be honest I find the whole thing boring. I mean its just another plotline with Veronica being at war with her Father. Plus the whole Veronica thinks her dad has changed because he spared someone only for us to find out he had murdered someone. Like we get it Hiram is a horrible, manipulative git you donāt need to keep showing us that at this point. I suppose the purpose of it was also to show that Hiramās illness is really starting to have an effect on him because he never would have been beat up like that before, its this idea that Hiram is finally starting to get weaker so we might be coming up to his downfall. Also I found the whole scene after the thugs break into the Maple Club and Cheryl is all like poor momsie and Veronica is all apologetic to Penelope absolutely hilarious. Like this woman is a murderer, you had her on trial a few episodes ago and then you locked her up and now have her in forced labour as punishment but all of a sudden weāre suppose to be concerned for her. Weāre suppose to believe that these two girls are concerned for her? Really? Being brutally honest here I kinda feel the same way about Penelope as I do Hiram which is I just donāt care. I donāt care about the rum storyline, I donāt care that Hiram is ill and I donāt care if Penelope nearly gets beat up by thugs, I just donāt have any sympathy for either of those characters seeing as theyāve been painted as truly terrible people and parents so far so why is the show trying to get me to care about them now. Sorry but its just not going to happen.
BarchieĀ
Ok so the other main plotline and the one I think its the one most people are talking about. Now let me start out by saying that I donāt think for one second that Barchie is over. In fact I think this is just the beginning. The episode in regards to Barchie pretty much went the way we all thought it was going to go with Archie being much more willing to persue something than Betty. So lets go through all their scenes and analyse every little moment of them because you know its fun.Ā
We first see Barchie away from each other. Betty is refusing to get caught up in another mystery and while some of this might be because sheās got too much else on her mind with what happened with Archie, I do think some of it is that she is just tired of it all, sheās going to Yale in a few months and I think she wants to just leave all that murder stuff behind her and focus on her future outside of Riverdale. When we first see Archie we see him playing his guitar and it looks like he might already possibly be working on the song for Betty. While he is playing he flashes back to the kiss. He then walks over and looks at the form for the Naval Academy and then out the window towards Bettyās room. I do think this is suppose to show that Archie is torn. Heās torn about whether to go to the Navy and hes torn about what to do about his feelings for Betty. I also think the two are linked, he unsure of whether to join the Navy because of Betty. Also I think the writers have left another little clue for us in this scene. When Archie picks up the form underneath it are some dominoes. I do think this is symbolic of the situation they find themselves in now. That kiss was the first domino andĀ theyāve knocked it over, now thanks to the domino effect all the others are going to come crashing down too, its only a matter of time.Ā
After Archie looks out his window we switch over to see Betty in her room reading her diary. This entry is talking about the day she first fell in love with Archie and we get a flashback to Mini Barchie waving at each other through their windows so know weāve got another iconic window scene to add to our gif sets. Itās worth noting that while reading this entry she is smiling so we know she is thinking of the memory fondly. Howver when Alice comes in and they start talking about the future and getting teary eyed, Alice asks what Betty could have to cry about it Betty flashes back to the kiss and gets teary. It shows that while Betty might be looking back on the past fonly she has lot of guilt and uncertainty about the more recent kiss. Sheās very confused about her feelings.Ā
The next time we see them is the first Bunker scene. Here we see them laying on the bed together and they start out by telling the other where their significant other is at. Betty tells Archie that Jugead is with Charles and Archie replies that Veronica is with Cheryl. I think in this moment wher ethey are lying close together and its intimate and all these feelings for each other are welling up they bring up Jughead and Veronica to remind each other that there are two other people involved in this, who are going to be affected by this. Itās at this moment that Betty asks what they are doing there? She is trying to figure out her feelings and what all of it means, whether its real, sheās despesrately trying to find the answers. But Archie doesnāt have an answer for her as he as just as confused by situation as she is, there is one thing he is sure of though and thatās this feels nice. Betty then admits that yes it is but that they canāt do anything more than this. This is very telling because it tells us that not only is Betty thinking about doing more with Archie she clearly wants to. It almost like shes saying it as a caution to Archie and herself, she saying this is nice I like this but we have to be careful because it would be far to easy to get lost in each other and go further. I did think Archieās response to this was kinda funny, heās like weāre just hanging out. It is a typical Archie/ teenage boy response and again its very telling because it actually shows that one Archie is a little in denial here, there is obviously more going on here than them ājust hanging outā. It also seems like Archie is trying to find a reason for them to keep doing it by painting it as being more innocent than it actually is. He trying to justify them being alone together by thinking well weāre not doing anything romantic or anything. But while it may seem fairly innocent, I mean they are just laying on a bed, on top of the covers, with their clothes on, the reality is they are both having romantic thoughts about each other and this moment is actually a very intimate moment on an emotional level. The might not be physically cheating but they are being emotionally unfaithful and deep down they both know it. I think this is why Betty says she loves Jughead at this moment. She needs to say it out loud because sheās getting overwhelmed by her feelings for Archie, she needs to remind herself of Jughead who she could really hurt. Archieās reply is actually really interesting firstly because he pauses for quite a while before answering, his response doesnāt come automatically to him but also because all though he also says he loves Veronica he adds a but. Have you ever heard that saying that nothing a person says before the word but really counts? I think its from Game of thrones. I think that is relevant here Archie says he loves Veronica but this feels nice. So if weāre saying nothing before the word but counts then what Archie is really saying is this feels nice. He also adds a question to the end of it. This feels nice, right? Again this is important because it is telling us that Archie needs that confirmation from Betty. He needs to know she feels the same that heās not in it alone. Although Betty doesnāt give a verbal response to this I do think we can safely say she does feel the same as we see her turn to look at him and they spend some time staring into each others eyes before taking each others hands. I think in this moment they needed to make some kind of physical contact with each other, their feelings are drowning them but they know that at any moment they could knock some more dominoes and cross the line. But handholding is safe right? I mean theyāre just hanging out right?
The next time we see Archie he has gone to his Fatherās grave. Like I said I do get this feeling that Archie is just really confused and at a loss. He talks about how he wonders what advice his father would give him. That it would probably something like follow your heart. Archie admits that he doesnāt know which way it is pointing and he doesnāt want to hurt anyone. He is at a crossroads right now. Heās got several paths in front of him that he could take and he doesnāt know which one is the right one, and even scarier than that he doesnāt know where any of them lead, what could be hidden round the bend? Does he stay with Veronica, something he is familiar with and a person he loves and has a lot of history with? Does he stay in Riverdale after high school and focus on the center and his dadās business? Does he persue his feelings for Betty another person who he has alot of history with but who he now has new romantic feelings for? Does he join the Naval Academy and get an education? There are so many possibilties in front of him but so many unknowns too. Its no wonder why heās really missing his dad right now as thats the person he would ordinarily talk this all out with.Ā
And then we were back with Betty. Again she is reading her diary, this time its about the proposal. She describes this day as the happiest day of her life, which is just super adorable. She again flashbacks to Mini Barchie and the proposal and can I just say that red heart ring is so cute and I do think it might pop up at some point again, they did take special effort to give us a close up of it and I canāt help but wonder what happened to it. Did Archie still give it to Betty anyway as a kind of promise ring? Did he keep and its in a draw somewhere? Who knows but I do think itll eventually end up with Betty. Kevin interrupts Bettyās thoughts when he asks if she ok and when she answers yes she was just thinking, he asks if she was thinking about simpler times to which Betty agrees. The thing is if we look at it from Bettyās point of view it really was a simpler time. Back then she was certain about what she wanted. She wrote in her diaryĀ āI know I want to marry Archie but I know weāre too young.ā Little Betty knew exactly how she felt and exactly what she wanted. There was no boyfriend whose heart she could break, there was no best friend who she could utterly destroy with her betrayal. There was only her and Archie. Fast forward ten years and shes in a very different situation then what her younger self thought. As a child she believed this was the time when she and Archie would be getting engaged, when they were 18 and in high school. Now all those feelings she felt then are back but its far from a simple situation.Ā
I donāt think its at all surprising that when we return to Archie he is working on a song. Archie has always tried to work his feelings out through songwriting and music. We can see him smiling throughout the entire process of wrinting this song. Now I was going to wait and talk about the meaning of the song later when going through the second bunker scene but I actually think we should cover it now. I mean if Archie has written a song for Betty then obviously we need to study every single line in great detail just because what else would we do with it? So lets first start with the title. According to the video I found on youtube its calledĀ āCarry the Torchā. Now if this is the official title then this is very intersting as the phase means to love something for a long period of time. Us Barchie shippers have been saying all along that Barchie never lost their feelings for each other and I do think this confirms that. The first line of the song isĀ āThereās no warning when everything changesā, pretty obvious that Archie is talking about the sudden emergence of their feelings for each other here. I also think its interesting that for Archie everything has changed. Literally nothing is the same for him anymore, not his feelings for Veronica, not his plans for the future, his feelings for Betty, literally everything is up in the air.Ā
āYou let down your guard and I saw something strange, I thought sheās not made for this world and neither am I.ā The part about her letting down her guard I think is in reference to how previously in season 1 after he broke her heart she became more guarded with Archie to the point where when he tried to talk about his feelings with her in the season 1 finale she shut him down. Now though sheās let that guard down, sheās kissed him and sheās met with him in the bunker, she admitted she was feeling something for him. As for the part about seeing something strange and thinking sheās not made for this world I again think this is a throw back to how he used to see her. Iāve said before that I always thought a huge part of the reason why Archie rejected Betty in season 1 is because of how he saw her as this perfect girl next door and so much more than he ever would be. I think heās now realised thats not true. That sheās not the same person anymore and neither is he. The line about not being made for this world is a little more ambiguos to me but I think he means they arenāt made to fit into a box, they both a little different. I mean I think they have had similar paths, they both have struggled with a dark side that was brought into exisitence by the same man, the black hood. Archieās anger at the black hood lead him down some pretty dark paths, Betty got the calls from the black hood that also took her down a dark path. They were both manipulated by someone they thought they could trust. Archie was manipulated by Hiram and Betty was manipulated by Chic. They have both lost their Fathers suddenly. I think Archie is trying to say that whereas before he saw them on different levels now he recognises that they are on the same, that they match. It could also mean that they arenāt meant for the world of Riverdale, this world thatās steeped in blood and violence, Archie has always seen their relationship as being something pure, that childhood innocence, maybe heās saying that their love is being blocked because of this world where they can so easily be corrupted. How he feels for Betty is so pure that it doesnāt belong in this world of evil and corruption its on another level it doesnāt fit in with this world, its just too good if Iām making sense here.Ā
āCause you make me wanna be stronger than I am.ā Another fairly obvious one Archie wants to be good enough for Betty he wants to be worthy of her. She inspires him to better himself and again we this alot throughout their relationship. She supports his music and encourages him to persue it, we know that story of how she helped him get caught up as children so he wouldnāt have to repeat a grade, we also know that she helped him with his schoolwork when he got out of prison. She always believes in him and he always listens to her advice and lets her guide him. The next line isĀ āMaybe Iām reaching, misplacing a feeling. Thereās no way to know but to try.āĀ This line is really showing Archieās confusion. But it also tells us alot about how Archie is thinking. He recognises that isnāt certain of his feelings that he just be mistaking nostalgia but he also says the only way they can know is to try. This is kinda what Iāve been saying myself. The only way Barchie are going to get closure is if they explore their relationship otherwise they are always going to wonder, theyāll always be a what if. It seems from these lyrics that Archie thinks this too that he wants to try and see what they could be.Ā
Ok I do want to point something out real quick here. We know that Archie didnāt sit down and write this song all in one session. This song was written over a couple of days and as I said I do think Archie uses music to sort through his feelings. All of the lines above come from the first verse of two. Hereās the thing there is a huge change between the two verses. In the first it is very much about new, tentative and unsure feelings. However as you will see as we go through the second verse it is much more sure and certain. Archie has made up his mind about what he wants and its reflected in this second verse.Ā āSo give me tonight, I donāt know much but I knoww this feels right.ā Archie might be a bit clueless most of the time, he might make mistakes and he might not have all the answers but in all that uncertainty one thing he does know, beyond a shadow of doubt that what he feels for Betty is right. I mean if you compare the lineĀ āmaybe Iām reaching mistaking a feelingā with this lineĀ ābut I know this feels right.ā This is such a huge turn around. Those lines couldnāt be more different. From the line give me tonight it does make me think that the first verse was written sometime after the first bunker visit but before he goes to see Betty and arranges to meet her at the bunker tomorrow evening. I think the second was written the next day when he knew that evening he was going to sing the song for Betty. In that time he had recgnised that his feeling were real and that they felt right.Ā
āSo give me tonight, If you carry the torch, Iād follow the light, Iād follow the light.ā Here again Archie repeats give me tonight. I think he understands that Betty is unsure and so heās asking her to hear him out, to keep an open mind to come to this conversation he wants to have. It seems to me like Archie very much wants to talk about how they are feeling and have that conversation that lets be honest they should have had the last time they kissed. When he says āif you carry the torch Iāll follow the lighāt this is huge. He is literally saying that if she says that she has feelings for him, if she wants him too then heās all in. He wants to be with her, its as plain as day in those lyrics. Like without a doubt if she had said she wanted to be with him he would break up with Veronica and be with Betty and does come across as what he wants.Ā
One thing I will say real quick is that I do think Archie needs to break up with Veronica anyway. Irregardless of whether Betty is willing to be in a relationship with him or not if he is having feelings as strong as what he is portraying in this song that its not right for him to continue with Veronica. As much as it would suck for her and as much as Iād hate to see her hurting, I think Veronica is an amazing woman and person and deserves a heck of a lot better than to have someone settle for her.
When we go back to Betty the diary entry of the day is talking about how they used to listen to records together. Again I donāt think its a coincidence that right after we see Archie working on a song Betty flashes back to them listening to music, music has always been a predominant part of their relationship. Again child Betty describes it as the best day ever. Betty seems to be trying to work through her feelings by looking back at old memories everytime we see her shes got one of her diaries in her hand. What I do think is interesting is that while Archie seems to be looking forward, looking to their furture Betty has chosen to look backwards. I kinda get the sense that Betty is frightened of the future and so her tactic for dealing with that is to just not think about all the much. So sheās getting lost in the past. Archie then shows up and can I just say I love Archie heās so adorable, like he literally spent the entire episode writing songs and trying to think of ways to hang out with Betty. When he says that heās there to help her with the year book it is so obvious that he is looking for any excuse to be around her. Definitely had th esame vibe about it asĀ āweāre just hanging out.ā Bless ya cotton socks Arch. Anyway Betty sees right through Archie and points out that heās not there for the yearbook. This is when Archie confesses that he canāt stop thinking about her. She says that they canāt do this but then after looking at him for a moment continues withĀ ānot hereā. Naturally Archie gets very excited at this little bit of hope and Betty admits she canāt stop thinking about him either. Now the next couple of lines of dialogue I think are very important. They arrange to meet at the Bunker but Betty doesnāt want to meet that night but the next. The reasoning she gives for this is so that they have time to think about it and āmake sure this is what we really want.ā The reason why this is such a big deal is because of the implications behind it. Betty is basically saying that in this moment at least she wants to be with Archie, this means that in this moment she had pretty much decided she was going to leave Jughead for Archie. The intersting thing is that she asks for that delay. I think some of it is yes so that she herself can be sure that it is what she wants and that she isnāt going to change her mind. But more than that I think she wants to make sure Archie wonāt change is mind. I mean look at it from her perspective he has broken her heart before. Not only that but after they kissed last time when she next sees him after that night he is kissing Veronica and its obvious their back together, we know that Barchie hadnāt talked about the kiss at this point and they shared a look when Archie spotted her and realised she had seen him kiss Veronica. This must have hurt Betty too its possible she hadnāt spoken to Archie yet because she was working up the courage, unfortunately Archie could have seen the fact that she hadnāt tried to talk about it with him as indifference on her part which is part of the reason why he goes back to Veronica. I think Betty is thinking ok he says he canāt stop thinking about me now but lets wait a bit and see if that cools off and it changes because if we start something up for real then not only have they hurt the people they care about for nothing but Bettyās heart will be broken again.Ā
Betty continues to read her diaries in the meantime and the next entry we get is acutally really telling given what comes next. In this entry Betty is talking about how much she hates Cheryl for kissing Archie. This is relevant because unlike the others this isnāt some happy memory of childhood love, in this memory she is remembering what it feels like to see someone you love kiss someone else. I suspect she is then recognising that this feeling is what Jughead and Veronica will go through if she does persue things with Archie. These thoughts and feelings are fresh in her mind when Cheryl comes in. This part of the episode does seem to have split some opinions in the fandom and caused a bit of a stir. Alot of people feel like it was really out of character for Cheryl to say that what Betty feels for Archie isnāt real and that she is in love with the idea of him considering she was the one saying that it looked pretty real to her just a few episodes ago. I agree with that I was very confuse myself by it when I first watched the episode. But since then Iāve gone back and watched the scene again and Iāve got a few things I think we should think about with this scene. Firstly we need to remember that Cheryl unlike the audience, doesnāt have all the facts. She doesnāt know about the kiss, she doesnāt know that Betty fantasized that dance, she doesnāt know about them meeting in the bunker. Betty straight up denied anything had happened between them when Cheryl asks. I think in these instances its really important that we look at it from the characterās pov. We can actually learn alot from studying Cherylās facial expressions during this scene. They are very subtle but if you look closely enough it can make you understand Cherylās thought process also it gives us an excuse to look at Cherylās beautiful face so its win win. This is Cherylās face when she first realises that she was right and Betty is having real feelings for Archie.Ā
She is clearly excited and happy at the news. This is much more in line with what youād expect from Cheryl after her comments about it looking real. However her demenour changes after Betty says she thinks a part of her had been in love with Archie for the last ten years and she suddenly looks alot more sombre and well sad to be honest...Ā
Ā So why the sudden change? Well her expression also seems really sympathetic to me as well as sad and her expression makes alot more sense when you see what she is seeing. She is looking at Betty in this moment and this is how Betty is looking at that moment.Ā
I mean look at her, she is so devastated, she is clearly hurting and struggling. Now again we have to look at this from Cherylās pov. While she might put on an act alot of the time and while its true she seems to enjoy chaos, she isnāt a heartless person. In fact on many occasions we have seen a softer side to her an example of this with Betty is when Betty suspected that her dad was a serial killer she went to Cheryl and she was supportive of Betty and gave her some really good advice. Well they might not be bosom buds Betty is still Cherylās cousin, her family. Again if we look at it from her point of view not knowing about the kiss or any of that then Cheryl likely sees it as Betty has started to have feelings and the idea of it is really upsetting Betty. If Cheryl did know about the kiss she might have given different advice but she doesnāt. Itās also possible that Cheryl may be feeling some level of responisibilty for Betty feeling upset now because she was the one who put the idea in her head that she had real feelings for Archie. I actually think Cheryl is trying to find a way to cheer Betty up, to comfort her when she gives this explanation that sheās just in love with the idea of Archie.Ā
I went to a body language class once and the guy told us that when a person lies or is trying to tap into their imagination they look up and to the right because its the creative side of our brians. If a person looks up and to the left they are trying to tap into the memory side of their brains. The interesting thing about Cheryl in this scen is she actually does both, her eyes flick from one side to another. Now Iām not an expert in body language I only ever went to the one workshop that covered the basics but to me this would suggest that Cheryl was searching for something to say here whether it comes from her imagination or a memory doesnāt matter she just wants to think of something to say that will cheer Betty up that will make it better.Ā
If you look at Cherylās face right before she says false and then goes on to explain that sheās in love with the idea and that what she has with jughead is real, to me it has that lightbulb look. You know the one I mean, when youāve just had an idea pop into your head? Yeah I think this is Cherylās thatās it, thatās the solution to the problem moment. You can see it alot better when you watch the scene you can see the moment where it pops into her head. So I do think this was more Cherylās miguided way of cheering Betty up. I mean like I said she doesnāt even have all the information about the situation all she knows is that Betty is feeling hella upset right now. I think Cheryl meant well but that she didnāt give the best advice at this moment. Also thereā another much simpler reason for why Cheryl said this. The writers. I think they want to draw this Barchie storyline out and play on the angst a bit and so they are using Cheryl here to throw a spanner in the works and delay Barchie getting together.Ā
However that doesnāt mean that what Cheryl said doesnāt have some merit. In particular I think the line about being in love with the idea of the perfect romance is important. You know I actually half agree with Cheryl here. Only half though because I think this used to be true in the past. I think back in season 1 when Betty was more innocent and naive she was in love with the idea of the perfect romance with Archie. However now, when you think about it, itās not possible for her to be. Mostly because she canāt have the perfect romance with Archie. By this point Archie has already broken her heart once, whatās perfect about that? They have already kissed and then hidden it from their significant others while pretending it didnāt happen in season 2, again whatās perfect about that? Now theyāve kissed again only this time its worse because theyāve actually cheated and now they know that if they do decide to be together alot of people are going to get hurt, yeah thereās definitely nothing perfect about that. My point is their relationship is already flawed, its already gone through the wringer and they already bear the scars from it, its not perfect so how can she be in love with the idea of a perfect love story with Archie?Ā It not perfect but it is real. I need to point out as well that in this scene Betty admits that she has been in love with Archie the whole time. Yet when she talks about Jughead she says āI love Jugheadā not in love, love. I do think theyāve done this deliberately, this difference between the two phrases but I havenāt figured out what the significance of it is yet.
So now weāve gotten to the second bunker scene. It starts off with Archie playing the song for Betty. What I do think is significant here is that whilst he is playing she flashes back to that scene where he was playing for them all and she gets overwhelmed and runs off. Like before when she was reading the diary entry about Cheryl she has remembered a time when she felt hurt and in pain because the person she loved had kissed someone else (Veronica in the cupboard this time) again she is thinking about how much that hurt her and how thatās how Jughead and Veronica are going to feel on top of that sheās got everything Cheryl said spinning through her mind and all just overwhelms her and she was to stop Archie. Another thing worth pointing out is when Archie asks if she doesnāt like the song she repliesĀ āitās us, itās usā again here she is admitting that they are real, they are right because thatās what the song is about, so if she thinks the song is them that she must believe that. Yet I think in the end as she says she doesnāt want to hurt or lose Jughead. Ultimately thatās what it comes down to. Itās not that she doesnāt have feelings for Archie, its not that she doesnāt think they are right for each other, it not even that she doesnāt want to be with Archie, she just doesnāt want to hurt Jughead. She doesnāt want to face the consequences and so instead she just ends instead trying to convince them both that its just nostalgia and fear of things changing.Ā
The immediate scene after shows that Archie is still playing the song and his mother comments how it must have been written for someone special, she assumes that its for Veronica. This is the moment when Archie says that he wants to join the Naval Academy and says he thinks itāll be best to just have a fresh start. I mean this poor guy is so heartbroken that heās decided that the only thing left to do is join the Navy. I do think being in the Navy is going to drastically change Archie in some ways it might be good for him as it will give him more control over his emotions and discipline but it also might make him a much harder person. We wonāt know for sure until after the time jump but I do feel like we should prepare ourselves for seeing a very different Archie. Again though we are being shown Archie looking forwards to the future as a way of dealing with his current situation.Ā
In contrast Betty is still focussed on the past, mainly on burning it away. But I do think its interesting that while one of them is obsessing over the future as an escape the other is losing themselves in the past in an attempt to deal. The thing is though neither one of them is focussing on the present on whatās going on right in the moment and so I feel like they are missing out. Its obvious that in this scene Betty still trying to convince herself that her feelings for Archie arenāt real. When her mother asks what shes doing she says sheāsĀ āexorcising her demonsā and then later after Alice points out that they are her childhood memories and that they are precious, Betty replies that they are just memories. I do think she is trying really hard to convince herself that what Cheryl said was true. I do think its interesting that its Alice in this scene that saves the last diary. I do think this diary is going to be an important plot point. I am very curious about whats in it. But I do find it ironic that Alice was the one in 3x01 who was trying to convince Betty to burn all her diaries but now shes the one trying to save them. Also it could be significant that Alice is the one to do this considering her past. When she was Bettyās age she too was in love with someone, FP. She too, like Betty is now, decided to not face these feelings and instead went for the safer option in Hal. As a result alot of bad things happened to her. While her life wasnāt necessarily terrible there was still something missing for her, the same can be said of FP. That decision to not face there feelings for each other had a direct impact on there lives. It had a domino effect. Like Betty and Archie Alice and FP had other opportunities to be honest with themselves and each other but didnāt.Ā
As I said before I donāt think that Barchieās story is over yet. There are too many things left undone. We still havenāt heard the whole song in the show yet. I do think its possible that Veronica will somehow discover the song, whether because she hears a recording of it, or hears Archie playing it or becuse Mary asks her what she thought about it. Then one of two things will happen. Either Archie will be faced with the awkward situation where he either has to admit the song isnāt about her or pretend it is and play it for her. Or when she hears it Veronica realises right away that it isnāt about her. Maybe Jughead also hears the song and also gets suspicious. I also think that diary is going to come back into it, maybe Betty reads something in it that makes her realise Archie is the one she wants and so she rushes over to see him and tell him only to find that he has already left, she gets to his room and there is a letter for her on his desk. Inside the envelope is an explanation that heās left for the Navy, a loves confession and the heart ring is in there too. Then weāll have the 5 year time jump where we find out theyāve been longing for each other the entire time. Oh the angst. The other thing is that Jughead and Veronica still havenāt found out about the kiss and with these video tapes popping up all over the place its only a matter of time before that one comes out. Also its worth saying that technically Archie and Betty still havenāt had a proper conversation about their feelings. While they were better this time around and they did touch on the fact they couldnāt stop thinking about each other their conversations were more about what they didnāt want then what they did. They donāt want to hurt Jughead and Veronica. So at the moment they are kinda at a stalmate.Ā Ā
Well thank you to everyone who read all the way to the end of this. I know it got real long, like I said a lot of thoughts about everything. Again I canāt wait to see whatās going to happen next. Iām not sure how much information we are going to get from the next episode as its going to be a revenge fantasy from a story Jughead is writing but you never know, either way Iām still excited for the episode. So until next time.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā

Finally!!
Todayās the big day! At 9/8C the new season will start airing. I hope all of you who are able to watch will do so! Iāll be excited to see your opinions.
I donāt expect too much from the first episode this season; itād be silly to hope for something mindblowing. On the plus side, I imagine it will be a better/more cohesive bit of entertainment than the holiday films usually are. Iām kind of curious to see how they approach just jumping into a new season vs. having a film length āepisodeā to break the ice between seasons.
I took a pretty big step back this year and didnāt stay on top of all of the promos or sneak-peek scenes. I know the basics, but thatās it. I hope allowing some things to be a surprise will work for the better for me.
As to hopes and dreams for the season, well, more of the usual youāve probably come to expect of me, I guess. Hereās a little list just for giggles.
Iām still holding out for AJ to make an appearance this season, though at this point Iād be happy if she even got a mention. Is this really silly of me? Probably. But Frank was mentioned last season, so it stands to reason that they areĀ aiming for more cohesive storytelling. Even if all that was said was that theyād had a letter from her, it would be enough to tie up the storyline in a way that feels less bad than, you know, she just went to prison for the rest of her life and nobody cares about it.
I think weāre going to get aĀ āwashed up old manā character arc for Bill. Based on the short scene of him putting on a red serge jacket, though, it may be much more nuanced than that; after all, even when Bill was working for the mounties last, he was a forensic investigator wearing plainclothes. Maybe this is more about aging and missing youthful capabilities? Either way, Bill is one of my favorite characters, and those sorts of plotlines would suit him. I have some faith that this sort of narrative will be approached with respect not only to the character, but also to the audience members who might relate to the situation.
No matter how the triangle resolves, I hope it feels satisfying to everyone involved. I think my biggest concern is actually with regards to insensitivity in the narrative. For example, Elizabeth chooses Lucas and in two episodes Nathanās on a date with someone else.
I think it could be argued that Lucas might be the type to try courting someone else as a means to forget about Elizabeth, but he and Nathan have been invested in her for a couple of literal years at this point... I hope the writers donāt forget that heartache like that wonāt leave easily.
Also, regarding the triangle... Most of you know I havenāt been a big fan of it. I still feel the same: splitting the fanbase was a huge mistake.Ā
Their attempts at saving face (all those interview comments about how deeply they thought about the choice and everything) were... I donāt know. They had to say something about it, and Iād hope theyād actually consider the character and what would continue to make interesting storyline bits down the road, but...they probably shouldnāt have admitted to theĀ āwhat will make a good storyā bit, even though itās true and as a writer I know exactly where theyāre coming from.
To clarify, they are probably considering Elizabeth as a character and her most likely choice, and coming up with plot ideas for down the road well in advance to make sure they can continue the story seamlessly with that choice in mind. Like,Ā āwe made sure that with the choice we made, we could still continue the story for many seasons to come. The thing is, this is the default mode: the audience already believes in this. Calling attention to it just makes people question whether or not the writers bothered to think about who the character of Elizabeth would choose.
Nathan is my pick for Elizabeth, but I donāt love Elizabeth enough as a character to stop watching if she chooses Lucas.
Nathan seems like the better/easier choice because āinteresting future plotsā with Lucas will have to rely on being mostly internal issues (he failed to tell her some big information about himself that is important now, discussion about having more children, how to be a parent/if he has a right to discipline Jack/etc), whereas Nathan plots canĀ be internal when the storyline fits the characters, but due to the nature of his career itās very easy to make plots stem from an external source without it seeming goofy or forced.
One last point about the triangle: so far theyāve done a really good job of making Lucas and Nathan appeal to pretty much opposite types of people. Lucas is the type of guy you root for if you like bold men who are not only confident, but secure in understanding their own emotions as well as declaring them. If youāre taking him at face value, you know exactlyĀ where you stand with him without ever really having to ask. Nathan is the kind of guy you root for if you like the more shy/sensitive men who are capable of emotion but do so awkwardly. It can be hard to tell where you stand with him until you learn to read him, or better yet...learn how to put him at ease.Ā
I hope this trend continues but does what it was intended to do all along. I feel like both men got the short end of the stick at various points in the story just due to how the narrative portrayed things.
Iāll be honest, I used to really like Jesse and Clara, but I think their story isnāt interesting anymore, and Iām worried that theyāll try to force some marital discord just to give them more screentime, when it might actually be better to let them fade to the background, or add them to scenes with other characters who are around a lot. Iām not sure what would get me invested in these two again, but there has to be something the writers could do...
Like many others Iām hoping Rosemary and Lee decide to either live the childfree lifestyle or adopt an older child who needs a home if theyāre set on being parents.
I hope more of the side characters get good quality scenes this season. I feel like they will, but Iāll say it anyway. We have some really great actors on board, and itās a waste of talent not to use that talent.
By this I mean: I donāt want to see Molly, Hickam, Florence, and Ned used only as funny bit characters. The last season or two were particularly bad for that.
I feel like Iām forgetting a few things, but this is long and Iāve got other things to do. :) Hope to see yāall around later today!

The 100 Highlights -Ā āAcceptable Lossesā (5x07)
Hey guys!Ā
Iām back to do my highlight recap of episode 5x07,Ā āAcceptable Lossesā, written by Jeff Vlaming. I am really happy to say that I enjoyed this episode a significant amount more than I did the previous one, and Iām really excited to dig into it with this post.Ā
If you would like to view my other highlight posts you can do soĀ here.Ā
āShe was shot, Marcus. Octavia Blake killed her - not me.āĀ
^ Okay so I want to start of this post by talking about this line from Abby because I honestly think its really important. The fact that Kane was sort of implying that Abby was responsible for that girls death was really rubbing me the wrong way because, like, yes: maybe, if Abby was well, she would have been able to save the girl. But you canāt get a drug addict to fix themselves just by asking them to. And you canāt expect them to be able to fix other people too. As much as Abby may want to stop, thatās not how it works. I donāt think anyone should be blaming Abby for the death of that girl. It shouldnāt have even been Abbyās responsibility to treat her, to be honest. Jackson is a doctor, too. And heās in a way better condition to handle that kind of situation at the moment. Obviously they wanted Abby because they can use drugs to get her to do what they want, but it doesnāt seem right for Kane to put that guilt on Abbyās shoulders.Ā
It just reminded me so much of Abby saying to Raven in 4x03 that the radiation wasnāt killing that child - she was. Itās not true. Raven didnāt kill that girl, and Abby didnāt kill this one. It was Octavia.Ā
Also I know everyoneās having fun hating on Kabby this season but I must have missed the memo cause I donāt really know why yāall hate it so much
Anywayyyyy
Harper SPOKE
āFunny, thatās the same thing we said about getting back down to the ground. And then we found you.ā
LISTEN. I donāt know why yāall were hating on Bellamy forĀ āshooting Octavia downā in this scene. The way she was talking to him in this scene absolutely SCREAMED manipulation to me. I was so happy when he said this to her - like, weāve been waiting for seasons for him to stand up to Octavia, and finally he is. Itās a lot better than him just sitting there in silence, taking whatever she was probably about to throw at him once she had his sympathy and compliance.Ā
Also, WHAT A DRAG. This writer has all the one-liners, damn. There was so much sass in this episode - I really enjoyed that aspect of it.
Okay, I REALLY love that they brought back Jasperās suicide letter again in this episode. It was just SO important. So easily they forget about characters who have died on this show and what they meant to the people who are still alive, and Iām happy that that doesnāt seem to be the case with Jasper and Monty. Jasperās presence in this episode felt like the callback this season needed - it helped me feel a lot more connected to the show, and to the characters. It was a well-needed reminder of the heart of this show and what itās about.
Also, it is absolutely necessary to give ALL the kudos to Tree Adams for the work he has done this season (and especially in this episode). Itās crazy how much that man has managed to emote with his music. His presence on the crew of this show has served to elevate it in every single way. When I heardĀ āThe Awakeningā being played over the scenes revolving Jasper ... it was A Lot fam. I think it is the most tragic and beautiful song that they have done on The 100 and it is also very deeply linked to Jasper as a character and everything that he went through. I love that, even though that song is from Season 3, they have continued to bring it back for both Season 4 and 5. It shows that they remember where they came from, and the journey that has brought us to this moment.Ā
It Just Means A Lot.
Actually, everything to do with Monty and Clarke in this episode was INCREDIBLE. Man, I really felt their dynamic. They connected so well and it just made me really emotional. They used to be such a team ... Before. Itās nice to see that they can click back into that place so quickly again. Them teaming up ... it almost felt like old times.Ā
āMonty, you canāt pick a lock with pruning sheers.āĀ āYe hath little faith.āĀ
Thanks to this post here I am now aware that this is exactly what Monty said to Jasper in 2x07 when they were trying to unlock another door and Now Iām Sad (and yet also really happy that they put so much care and detail into this episode?).
Monty was just amazing this episode - like damn heās so smart. Heās such an undercover badass. We donāt appreciate him enough.Ā
I have to hand it to the writers with this one cause I really did NOT see that worm thing coming lmao. I was SO sure that we were about to get a cannibalism reveal and Iām pretty sure the writers are well-aware of that. They were having fun with us.Ā
But on another note, Iām actually really happy that they brought the worms into the story. Otherwise, 5x05 would have pretty much just been a filler episode with no real significance. But, in doing this, theyāve made it so that episode is even more relevant than we thought. AND WOW WHAT A FUCKING TERRIFYING WAY TO DO SO.
BELLAMY AND MONTY AND CLARKE HAVING A CHAT JUST LIKE OLD TIMES WOW IāM EMO
We canāt forget they were the OG murder trio of 2x16 i love three pals bonded through the blood of their enemies
āBe diplomatic.āĀ āGet out.āĀ āReal diplomatic.ā I LOVE TWO (2) COMEDIANS WOW BELLARKE REALLY HAS ME SHOVED STRAIGHT UP THEIR ASS HUH
āClarke, he was there when Pike shot her and killed 300 of her people.ā I know everyone is really mad about this line but on rewatch I noticed that they changed this line from the script so that it puts the blame for the massacre on Pikeās shoulders rather than Bellamyās and while I do think it was a bit of an awkward placement, I appreciate that they changed the line so it didnāt feel like such a punch in the face.Ā
Also, Clarkeās pause and thenĀ āIāll go with himā? Peak comedy. I love a woman.
āWhen I was a kid, after the battle of San Francisco, I watched the evacuation on TV. Thousands of refugees being packed into aircraft carriers. I remember seeing soldiers pushing helicopters overboard just to make more room, and Diyoza was there. She was the one giving the orders. The machines were expendable, but the people werenāt. But up in space, when we reported that the miners were getting sick, Eligius saw it differently. Order Eleven came down:Ā āBring home the Hythylodium, leave the prisoners.ā Like they were garbage. Captain Stevens agreed and I didnāt.ā
Thereās something so compelling about the way Jordan Bolger delivers his lines. It reminds me of him talking to Clarke in 5x03 - I could listen to him talk about his backstory for hours. When he speaks he just has a way of captivating the audience. And also CHARMAINE DIYOZA WAS A MFING WAR HERO AND I WONāT HEAR ANYTHING ELSE. Damn, she continues to be the absolute best.Ā
āSo you see, Diyozaās not as bad as you think and Iām not as good as you hoped.ā WHAT A FUCKING LINE.
I am living for Zekeās character and his relationship with Raven is so intriguing. Jordan and Lindsey have such great chemistry.
āAn honest spy is either incompetent or working an angle. Which are you?ā CHARMAINE TRULY CAME FOR HER LIFE GOD SHEāS SO SAVAGE I LOVE A WOMAN
āKarina died because her doctor was too high to operate.āĀ āReally? And here I thought it was the bullet.ā THANK. YOU.Ā
The way Charmaine calls Kane out in this scene really just made me want to like, pump a fist or something, lmao. When heās likeĀ āmaybe it would be a good way to get rid of some of these ...ā and she says,Ā āWhat, Kane? Undesirables?ā I. FELT. THAT.Ā
āKind of like sending 100 juvenile delinquents to die on the ground. Or abandoning 300 prisoners on an asteroid?ā You know, I really didnāt expect Charmaine - of all people - to bring back this old argument from Season 1 but I WAS SO HAPPY THAT SHE DID. Say what you will about Diyoza but sheās nothing if not loyal. Sheās not here to abandon her troops and sheās not willing to discard any of them - just like she wasnāt willing to abandon any of those refugees. The fact that sheās so open to allowing defectors into the camp at all, that she is feeding them, giving them shelter, actually sitting down to have chats with them is just so ... uncharacteristic of aĀ āvillainā? And I love it.Ā
āTrust her? Sheās a drug addict. ... Too soon?ā
Literally me, every time Diyoza opens her mouth:
Got to take a short second to say again how interested I am to see how this whole Gaia/Madi plotline is going to play out, now that we know that she is actually here to keep her safe. Itās such an interesting dynamic, with her being so close to Octavia.
I know a lot of people are annoyed that the flame is still part of the show but honestly, I think it makes a lot of sense (considering Madiās position as a nightblood) and plays a lot more interesting of a role now that the time of the Commanderās is supposedly over and their faith has been destroyed ... almost. In any case, Iām pretty sure that the flame will be gone for good by the end of this season because I think that whatever happens with Madi and Octaviaās reign and Wonkru is going to lead to its destruction, but in the meantime I really donāt mind it being part of the story.
I have to talk about the scene where Gaia shows her the flame because I LOVE how it was filmed. The music was so eery and fit the mood perfectly, and the fucking whispers??? Weāve never actually seen how a real, living nightblood reacts to the flame and I think itās actually super cool that Madi can feel a bond to it - it was literally beckoning to her. It was giving me major Lord of the Rings vibes.Ā
And wow, Lola really killed that scene. You can clearly see the way her emotions are creating inner turmoil for her. Sheās been hiding from the flame since birth and yet she also cannot deny the draw that she feels towards it (again, like Frodo with the ring). Lola has such a potential as a little actress - Iām really excited to see where she goes.
Side note but ... whoās going to tell these writers no one actually refers to their sibling asĀ ābig brotherā just casually?Ā
āThere are times in war where you have to do the wrong things for the right reasons.ā And Iām sure this is exactly how Echo justified every single thing she did pre-Praimfaya too. I have to admit that I actually liked what they did with Echo this episode just because it shows that she still has areas that require growth. Her priorities and loyalties changed up on the Ark but she has yet to be truly tested. This is her test, to see how much those six years really changed her. If this episode is an indication, her instinct is still to fall back into old habits during times of war. Iām optimistic that what this means is we are going to get to see Echo have real development, on-screen, this season.
Monty reading Jasperās letter ... I Am Not Okay.Ā
Again, loved all the callbacks to Jasper in this episode. Itās really interesting that his character arc has carried over from Season 3/4 and seems to have reinvented itself in Monty now. Iām hopeful that Monty isnāt going to go down the self-destructive path that Jasper went down, but that he might actually use Jasperās memory to pave the path towards real change. We rarely get characters who want to end the fighting rather than continue it - Iām interested to see where Montyās character arc goes as the season progresses.
āJasper was smarter than all of us [...] If the war is the only way to have the last survivable land on Earth, then maybe we donāt deserve it.ā Heās not wrong ...
Octavia throwing a skull at her mirror in rage ... I just have to laugh
āIf we lose, [you helping Kane escape] will be why. How does that make you feel?āĀ āAwful, and Iād do it again.ā
LISTEN INDRA THIS SEASON IS EVERYTHING. Sheās one of the few characters who is not afraid to call out Octavia on the way that she is leading. She can see so clearly through Blodreinaās bullshit and yet she loves Octavia despite it. Thatās Strength.
āI miss him, too.ā Lemme just go roll into my corner and CRY MY FUCKING EYES OUT because Bellamy and Jasper was one of my all time favourite dynamics and I miss it so much
āMake algae, not war. Thatās cute.ā IT IS FUCKING CUTE BELLAMY ALL RIGHT
āIf the early batches donāt kill them like they nearly did us.āĀ āThatās before I got the recipe right, and you know it.ā I STAN
Seriously, though ... Monty is just SO (so) underrated.Ā
BELLAMY BLAKE HAS A FUCKING DIMPLE ON HIS RIGHT CHEEK AND I WAS NOT EVEN FUCKING AWARE OF THIS FACT BECAUSE IN ALL THE FOUR AND HALF SEASONS THAT CAME BEFORE THIS THE CAMERA HAS NEVER FOCUSED ON HIS SMILE LIKE THAT BEFORE SO YEAH I AM SALTY BECAUSE WE HAVE BEEN ROBBED OF THIS CUTENESS GOOD NIGHT
ā75% of your people are dying.āĀ āWell, thatās good . . . For Octavia.ā The casual way she delivers this line askqiakdksansks i stan a comedian
LISTEN. The reveal of Diyoza being pregnant LITERALLY made me gasp. Out loud. I literally jumped off of my couch and cheered. I am SO excited about this reveal. I didnāt think they were going to actually use the fact that that Ivana was pregnant during filming in the show because they had her taking tequila shots in 5x05 (*sigh*) but Iām really happy that they decided to. It just adds a whole extra layer to Charmaine. Sheās not just a leader - sheās a mother. And I do wonder at how that might affect Abbyās and Charmaineās dynamic, because thatās one thing they both have in common.Ā
Another reason I really liked that reveal was because I think Charmaine being pregnant gives her a higher chance of surviving this season. She still may die, but itās a lot darker to kill off a character when they are carrying a baby inside of them than when they are not, and I know the CW has regulations on that kind of thing.Ā
That being said, Karina was heavily implied to have been pregnant and she still died ... Although they did cut out the lines that explicitly stated she was pregnant from the script so maybe her death was why?
Anyway, Iām really excited about this plotline.
Raven looking at a beaten up Shaw with tears in her eyes ... this is the angst I live for. Man, I could get invested in this relationship. Not to mention, Zeke becoming one of the prisoners is SUPER intriguing. His role within Eligius is what kept him conflicted before, but if Eligius has rejected him too now, who will he become? What will he do to help Raven and the others? Right now, Iām sure he wants nothing to do with her but I know that wonāt last forever and Iām really excited to see what they do with his character.
I know that Madi beating Ethan in that fight was a TERRIBLE idea but Iām really excited about it. Madi has surprised me as a character (in a good way) because she has so much of her own agency outside of Clarke. I think the story of her struggling with her hero-worship and glorification of Octavia versus her love and loyalty to Clarke is super interesting. She may be fucking everything up but sheās doing it on her own terms, and thatās exciting, because Madi easily could have been written in as a plot device to cause conflict between Clarke and her friends as well as within the Grounder system. Instead, the writers have given her flaws and strengths in her own right. She is way more fleshed out as a character than I was expecting going into Season 5 and I think this story with her and Octavia will be really interesting.Ā
Also, I 100% predicted that Madi would be Octaviaās second in my spec masterpost months ago. In fact, a lot of my spec about Madi and Octavia has been taking shape pretty nicely so Iām really interested to see if the rest of my spec regarding that relationship follows through too ...
Clarke taking the radio and calling Diyoza just like she called Emerson in 2x16 ... damn. DAMN. Nice to see the return ofĀ āyou may be the Chancellor, but Iām in chargeā. Sheās So Powerful.
BELLAMY AND CLARKE STARING DIRECTLY INTO EACH OTHERāS EYES DURING THE ENTIRE RADIO SCENE UNTIL BELLAMY COULDNāT TAKE IT ANYMORE AND TURNED AWAY AM I SENSING SOME TENSION HERE
But seriously, he knew exactly what she was going to see even before she saidĀ āThatās why weāre going to take her out.ā Even after six years Bellamy can read her so well
Iāve been waiting all season for the turbulence I was promised and OH BOY AM I READY FOR THE ANGST
HAKELDAMA 2.0 HERE I COME
BOOM. Out.
That was a KILLER episode. It took me forever to get through this recap because there were so many aspects of the episode that I really, really enjoyed. It hit all the right emotional beats, the music was on point, and the plot was super intriguing. It really feels like the story is picking up and I am SO excited to watch 5x08.
Itās going to be harder for me to keep on top of these recaps for the rest of the season as Iām going to be very busy (and Iām not even sure if Iāll be able to watch most of the episodes live) but Iāll do my best to get them all done. I canāt promise that they will all be completed in a timely fashion (before the next episode airs), as I have been doing them thus far, but Iāll try to get them done when I can!
Thanks for reading!

(( Hey guys. Mun here. I know, I know, Iāve been relatively quiet lately. For... a while now. I should probably give a life update. A bit more of a comprehensive one.
After a simultaneously wild and dull 10 years of my life beginning with university, which included a lot of online and a little offline drama, the end of a 7 year relationship that Iām still kind of reeling over several months onward, and a whole lot of paranoia and health problems both mental and physical... My life situation IRL took a drastic turn and almost brought my online presence to a screeching halt. Around May-June of this year, I moved back in with my parents, got a job at a major UK toy store chain, and have no longer been able to sustain my wild-ass 10am-5am living due to changes in schedule and having major responsibility for the first time in my life. One such responsibility being not keeping my parents awake til fuck knows in the morning, ahaha. And, yāknow, actually getting decent sleep before work... (something Iām failing a little at right now,,,)
Iāve got mixed feelings about it, but overall... itās actually been a pretty positive experience. Being definitively useful, wanted and moreover neededĀ does a lot for oneās self-esteem. Knowing Iām good enough at doing something that people will take my advice, and that I will get called into work for more hours instead of having my hours cut, is kind of a good buzz, even if itās taken a lot of getting used to and been stressful for my RP life. Not having any friends IRL sucks hard when I canāt talk to my online ones as much but... Iām trying to deal as best I can.
But right now, letās forget all that. Itās time for me to be sappy, because itās late at night, Iām sick, and itās almost Thanksgiving. ))
youtube
(( Now, I know Iām not American, so when it comes to Thanksgiving, I donāt go there. I might have humoured aĀ āturkeyā dinner of my own for a couple of years just so I wouldnāt be left out. Which I guess might be kinda sad but I prefer to think of it as an act of sentimentality.
And, what can I say? Iām a very sentimental person.
That sentimentality is what leads me to make this post. Thereās so many important people Iāve met that Iām grateful for. Iād like to talk about some of them, because I donāt think I should be particularly shy about this. I might not get all of them, because Iām kinda scatterbrained (and at least as of making alterations to this part of the post mid-way through typing it itās 11:30 and I have to get up at 8).
First off: if youāre in the Sunny Day CafĆ© server? You fucking rock! Even if you donāt talk too much in there, your continued support of my first real attempt to run a relatively public RP server is really appreciated. In particular on this front Iād like to thank Rose (blogs: @kxndncssāĀ @grxxnheartā @hopxlcssā), Shad (blog: @flapsinhandsā) and Ozi (blog: @magicbyhalvesā) for helping me with moderating the place. Iāll be the first to admit that my moderation skills are a bit... well, š. Iām often not a good judge of situations, and find it difficult to trust my own judgements. Itās something Iām having to learn. So the help is really important to me.
Of course, these three (who I will dedicate more time to in this post later for sure) have also been really helpful with plot stuff. Thereās a particular group of people whoāve been helpful with plot stuff, actually, aside from these three, and Iād like to mention them too.
Letās start with Ziz! (blogs: @unseenbutnotgoneā @seenbutgoneāĀ @unheardanduncaringā @distastefulblossomā @setebcsā)
My memory is trash, but I think Ziz and I started talking over Wings wanting to get to know Fin back when he was Sleazy? Because he was getting involved with his son, and of course a good dad would want to make sure his son is in good company. He wasnāt, but Fin grew from that, and Iām thankful for that too, but also Iām thankful for what happened when Fin ended up applying this relearned kindness when Wingsā son was forcibly fused with a corrupt fragment of his.
And then it all went really gay from there, and now theyāre married and have spread the gay even further. Itās not even over yet, thereās so much potential for Reset and Fin still and Iām eager to explore it and fit them into this intricate new world that Iāve never really touched on in RP before. And to write with someone as caring, empathetic, funny and smart as Ziz? Iām really honoured. Theyāre really inspiring to me and I adore RPing with them. They put so much work into their muses, visually and historically and meaningfully and I just... šš Mwah. Ziz as a writer, and an artist, and as a person too - I look up to them so damn much.
And I definitely cannot mention inspiring people without coming to talk about Rose. She and Ziz were ultimately the reason I started to invest so much in my Gasters, theyāve provided constant encouragement with my writing, Iāve been able to bounce ideas off of them not just for my stories but for theirs too. Theyāve been emotionally supportive and emotionally constructiveĀ too, which is honestly fantastic. I know Iām someone who has a lot of growing to do. I appreciate that thereās people whoāll stick by me while Iām doing it and help me along.
Rose is such a pleasure to write with. Her prose is utterly gorgeous to read, it feels like seeing the individual threads coming together in a tapestry. Her talent for finding mood music is fantastic and something I honestly aspire to, because mood music for writing or setting a scene is so so important. Her characters are always really well researched and have so much depth to them, and itās really great seeing her influences because damn she has good taste too. And whatās more, I honestly do look up to Rose, because while her life experiences may not be perfect sheās accomplished a lot of things I would love to accomplish myself. Sheās really inspiring to me.
While these are the two folks I talk to most, particularly about RP stuff, thereās a whole gang of bastards Iām thankful for... Iāll have to bullet point these guys because thereās a good few blogs associated with them and I want to try and include all the active/main ones?
Rav - @imbreaking-sansā @imdespondent-sansā @mraudio-the-audaciousā
Bets - @fellythealphaskeletonā @xa-eviterxā
Situ - @shadowbirdsituā @sourtroutā
Del - @skellie-beanā @pocketpunk666
Collectively these are people I know I can come to when I need help with things, RP or otherwise, people I can vent to, people I can share experiences with, and people I can laugh with and listen to and just generally hang around and be myself with. Which is kind of really important, especially when I donāt entirely feel like I can be myself IRL still.
Rav honestly has such a good way with words, both when it comes to people and when it comes to prose, and seems wise way beyond her years at times. Her level-headedness has sometimes been a little intimidating to me, but possibly because itād been a rare quality in people Iād known prior, and something Iām often lacking in myself. I look up to pretty much everyone for different reasons, or sometimes similar ones. Rav is one of these people I look up to, in part because of this level-headedness. (And also because holy shit sheās dealt with so much and still come out on top!!) Sheās a lot of fun to write with and a very trustworthy person Iām honoured to call a friend.
I think, if my memory serves me right, when I was really starting to talk to this group asĀ a group - not as it is now, but as it had been, with a few different people there or not there - it was Bets Iād first encountered. And, well, I didnāt make the best first impression, I donāt think... but I like to think it got way better afterwards. Bets is honestly a really fun and wild character whilst simultaneously having that level-headedness I really admire in people? And like, she has wack plotlines (Iām looking at all the Felly stuff especially with fuckin BIRDSCAPE), but itās so much fun to see them unfold and be a part of them! I consider her one of the comic masters of the group alongside Ziz, and though their styles are fairly different I have a high respect for both of them. And whatās more, Iāve always found Bets super easy to approach, which is invaluable to me as someone who is very shy and unsure of themselves.
While I say Bets was one of the first people in this group that I encountered, but as the group stands now it was actually Situ. Prickly and Fin had this thing going between them that grew into joke-flirting that became actual flirting, because when you do something like that itās almost certainly going to stop being a joke if you keep doing it. If thereās one thing Iām a sucker for itās slow burn and these two delivered so wonderfully. Situ has always been super friendly, super eager and super full of enthusiasm! And while I regretfully havenāt always been able to match that, I have always had fun RPing with her. I love her art, her muse designs, and - honestly this might seem out of left field one day could you gimme a hand with my hair? Yours always looks so good!! ... Er, that aside, youāre another really approachable person who I appreciate a lot. (I also admire your muse dedication like holy shit how many blogs do I have now)
I absolutely have to open with the Del paragraph by stating she is fucking hilarious. Thereās a reason sheās using the Jevil icon on Discord at the moment; sheās definitely our Joker. Iām legally obligated to state sheās full of beans (itās funny because the beans are her muses), and I respect her so much for sticking with child muses and RPing them so well when it must be really damn difficult at times. Thereās a lot of challenges that come with child muses for sure. Del is also a great listener, an enthusiastic plotter, and an incredibly sweet person. Fun fact: she sent me a plush jackalope a while back and heās sat by my bedside ever since, receiving cuddles when I needed them most! Another fun fact: sheās usually the person who initiates theĀ āhewwo??ā in voice calls. Chaotic alignment as hell.
Iāve talked a lot about a particular group of friends but they arenāt really the only people I interact with... and while the people I interact with regularly has dwindled a little, thereās two people not in this specific group who are still super important to me, who I mentioned earlier, actually.
Iāll mention Shad first - blog linked further up - as someone who Iām really glad I grew closer to? Weād shared a few friend groups but it took a bit for us to really start interacting, and Iām so glad we did. She has a fucking killer sense of humour and it bleeds into her RPing in the best way. Being involved in her plots in any way is freaking awesome, and sheās been super great about getting involved in mine in a way thatās really fleshed them out and given them direction and form. Not to mention she was one of the reasons I got back into Guild Wars 2 and we have such a good time playing together and talking.
I think at least for now the last person and absofuckinlutely not least Iāll talk about is Ozi... whose friendship with me long pre-dates my current blogs, as we started RPing together in the League of Legends community. Sheās a really positive influence in my life, and Iām honestly really grateful that sheās stuck by me through our changes in fandom. Seeing her grow and improve as an artist has been an absolute pleasure, and her writing has always delighted me. The development turns she takes are fantastic and really well thought out, and that she can work with so little and make so much is inspiring as all hell. (Iām mostly talking about the amount of work she managed to put into fleshing out Thresh back when we were in the LoL fandom but damn sheās doing such a good job with Shantae in this regard too?? Thresh was just a lot more... bare-bones. Ba dum tsch.)
Itās about now that Iāve run out of steam and itās past my bed time but I would like to say that this list is by no means exhaustive. Thereās a lot of people who have put me on the path Iām on today, some who I may not talk to as much, some I talk to more, some who I donāt talk to anymore at all. Maybe they left my life on a good note, maybe on a bad. But each and every person we meet leaves some kind of mark, however big, however small.
Iām grateful for all the people whoāve not only left kind marks on me, but stayed, too. ))
#{}{} OOC#long post ))#(( sorry if this came out dumb or if there's any missing or incorrect details ))#(( i'm sick and very tired which is not helping my usually poor memory in any way ))#(( but pls know that i love u ))

Random Review (2)
Voltron season 4 review.
Overall this season was somewhat darker while still enjoyable, and it had many thoroughly hilarious moments. The visuals were amazing and the plant designs still managed to awe me. Fighting and the choreography of the battles were stunning and well planned. We also get some good moments from all the characters, some more than others of course.
Like my last review I will be covering:
Plot
Characters
Feels
Graphics and sound
Any extra points
And thatās about it for the spoiler free overview. I will be getting into the good stuff below.
Ā Plot:
Ā Itās an, interesting carry on from Season three. It kinda felt like some of the stuff we were working towards in season 3 got discarded this season. Example, last season we saw Keith struggle with becoming the leader but this season he backs out and Shiro can now piolet the black lion. However I thought the coalition plotline worked really well and had a good payoff in the finale. I perhaps would have liked to of seen more of the alien races and how they would have fought in that battle.
Episode 2 was fantastic, though it could have perhaps been shuffled around with the other episodes because matt didnāt seem to show up in episode 4. Either way it wouldnāt have changed the narrative because ep 2 is pretty self-contained.
I know we had a short screen time budget but I didnāt feel as rushed this season. Plenty happened in each episode and they stuck pretty straight to the main narrative whilst providing some good side moments. The only noticeable things that were cut out were: 1, The Blade of Mamora mission. I know Keith went out on his own mission but we never got any updates or anything from their point of view. I can understand this decision but it just means we donāt get to see Keith or how his time away from the paladins affected him. At the same time it does put us more into the other paladinās shoes as they donāt know whatās going on with him. 2nd, We didnāt see much of Lotor and his plans but I would also put that down to the writers keeping Lotorās motives in the dark. So it works in their favour.
But overall the writing was good and I am interested for the next season.
Ā Characters:
I didnāt see this and anyoneās particular season but there were defiantly some highlights.
Pidge: Starting with Pidge because she is my fave. She has been working her butt off to find her brother and Iām so glad she finally did. I love her relationship with Matt and how they are both science nerds. (can relate). Also the scene where she gets mocked at school for being smart draws on similar feeling from me so it was a case of making my favourite character even more relatable. I love how her alias was actually the nickname her brother gave her. I didnāt know that before and itās adorable. Her action scenes were great, and she makes a really good team with Matt whether it be in the science or combat department.
Matt: I was very interested to see how he would integrate with the team. Especially after Keith left. (My sister made a comment of, the reason they got rid of Keith was so Matt could replace him.) I thought episode 3 did a good job with that. I loved how Pidge, Matt and Hunk are now the nerd trio and that Matt gets to ride tandem with Pidge in the green lion. And how could I forget that Matt also fell head over heels for Allura, that was hilarious. But anyway from what I saw in the last episodes I think Matt will be hanging out with the rebels when he isnāt with the team.
Lance: Seems to be back to his usual self. I think the show business gave him a boost in confidence. Although he doesnāt flirt with Allura itās funny to see that he still doesnāt want any other man with her. His speech to Allura in ep 6 was touching and really showcased why the blue lion picked him in the first place. It added to the side of him we saw in season 3. His ability to act as the heart of the team.
Shiro: Shiro comes back and the first thing we see him do is argue with Keith. But anyway it was nice to see him back in action. Whatever the writers had instore for him we didnāt get to see. Though I suspect it may come up in the future.
Allura: She fits nicely into her role and it was cool to bring up her quintessence abilities again. And she is still absolutely badass at fighting.
Keith: Yeah, Iāll admit Iām a sucker for Keith in his Mamora outfit. I can only hope our emo boy is able to re-join the team next season, heās still one of my favourites. Despite being gone for half the season we still get a character arc from him. In the first episode we see him struggling to come to terms with the Mamora principal that the mission is more important than the individual. Then at the end Keith realises that sacrifices will have to be made in order to save the day. And that he is even willing to sacrifice himself for the effort. I mean kudos to the writers for putting that arc in there.
Hunk: My poor boy. Sidelined again. I really did like it though when Matt acknowledged Hunkās work in the science department. I would like to see more of that trio nerding out in the future. I thought perhaps, when Hunk was made fun of in the coalition performances, that there might be a payoff where Hunk saves the day, but that didnāt really happen. But we did have that moment in ep 7 where he works out the planet is a bomb. So he does come through in small moments but it would be nice to see more episodes displaying his skill, like the first 2 seasons.
Coran: It was actually interesting to see Coran take a serious episode. It really showed another side of him that we donāt see. A less confident guy that only wanted the best for his team. However the episode still managed to be hilarious.
Lotor: Like I said earlier, we didnāt see too much of him but I think it works well with the end of the season. We donāt really know what Lotor is planning and we donāt know how Lotor will use Voltron to his advantage. We know Lotor has been exiled before and I hope we can get some good backstory next season. Also I donāt trust him, I think he will side with Voltron until he gets what he wants then break away. It quite interesting having him as a third party.
Lotorās generals: Narti did not deserve this! But I did think her death did create and interesting dynamic in the group. Zethrid and Ezor feared for their own lives while Axca still tried to remain loyal. When Lotorās plan failed that was the tipping point. I also noticed Azca said there was one last option for them to go, I assumed they were going to Voltron but it was Lotor who got there first. It makes me question whether she had the same plan or is talking about another party. (I wouldnāt be surprised if they turned up at the Blade of Mamora) Ā Last of all we didnāt get to see any hand to hand combat from these girls. And thatās a shame but I guess the screen time budget couldnāt allow it.
Ā Feels:
Boy we got the whole plate. Whether it be feeling sad, laughing at jokes, confused in shock or rallied in a powerful moment. The Voltron team did a good job in bringing out the emotion. A lot of this comes from the creatorās ability to make an atmosphere. Music and visuals played a big part. (Plus the voice acting, Bex how dare you make me cry). What scenes affected you the most probably depended which characters you cared about more.
Episode 2 was a great one for me. The Part where Pidge found Mattās āgraveā was gut wrenching even though I knew he couldnāt be dead. But it still made me get caught up in the moment. The only thing that ruined it was the overused trope of āsomeone died/itās a funeral so itās rainingā clichĆ©. It kinda dragged me out of the scene, but it was still great.
There are plenty of other scenes I enjoyed. There were heaps of moments where I laughed. Voltron likes to take the viewer on a bit of an emotional roller coaster and it works pretty well for me.
Ā Graphics/sound:
Holly flip! Where is this improvement coming from? Like man, I thought the last season look amazing but this one took it up again. The planet had awesome designs and the space background had me awed. I always love the environments they created. Multiple times I found myself caught out just admiring how good the graphics were.
There were also some examples of animation we donāt usually see, especially in episode 3. Though I did find it strange the absolute absurdity of it just made the scene even more hilarious.
Fight scenes were great, whether they were in the lions or hand to hand, they still looked amazing to watch.
Music was also another thing I noticed. It was done really well and added nicely to certain scenes. They were also probably good enough to listen to on its own.
Ā Extra points:
This season had a very military feel to it. The tactics of the coalition were cool and the final fight was awesome. Death seemed like a much more real threat this season. And there were plenty of moments that carried a lot more weight.
Iām also glad the Kaltenecker was included in this season after disappearing in the last one.Ā
Just like the first 2 seasons the writers have once again ended on a cliff-hanger and I will be excited for the next season.
Thanks for reading to the end. Iāve decided this will be a bit of a thing now, writing reviews (when I can). If you donāt agree with everything Iāve said then thatās fine, you donāt have too. This is my own opinion after all.

ravewulf(.)tumblr(.)com/post/163778147780/hi-i-saw-that-you-were-one-of-the-few-that what you think?
I definitely got a headache from reading all of that. Ravewulf really loves to pretend that Jeff Davis is just an average, everyday, completely harmless & lovable showrunner that acts like every other showrunner in existence. He acts like Jeff doesnāt maliciously do things to provoke & antagonize people. And he pretends as though Jeff Davis isnāt a compulsive liar.
The first thing he does is proclaim that Jeff twists the truth & misleads people to keep important plot details from getting spoilers. In reality, we know thatās a lie, because Jeff Davis has blatantly lied to fans about a variety of things. He has kept his own cast members & fellow co-workers in the dark about things. And has continuously gone on to pretend that something in the show is more important than originally perceived, not because it actually is, but because heās too lazy to fix his own plot holes.
Next, he goes onto say that one of the reasons people hate Jeff is because fan expectation corrupted what fans want the show to be VS. what the show actually is. He says that fans have gotten it into their heads that Teen Wolf was a light & happy show, instead of it actually being a dark & intelligently written show... which is why it doesnāt make sense when fans complain about fan favorites being tortured, not being happy, out of character moments, & plot holes.
First off, the show did use to be a funny, somewhat light-hearted, & ridiculously campy show. Sure, there was violence, emotion, blood, guts, mystery, darkness, etc. But the main difference is that the show didnāt take itself too seriously. You had main characters that were high-schoolers, that tried to live as normal high schoolers whilst dealing w/ the supernatural. There was humor. There were light moments that balanced out all of the serious moments.
The show doesnāt do that anymore. It hasnāt honestly done that since season two. The show takes itself way too seriously now & tries too hard to be clever & shocking. Jeff tries so fucking hard to move in a direction that fans wonāt see coming, that in the end, it just doesnāt make fucking sense. I mean... a werelion Nazi? Are you fucking serious? Stealing plotlines from Sterek fanfic? Really? Kate coming back from the dead as some sort of werejaguar bonewoman La Loba because she drank rainwater out of a paw print? Literally....fuck off.
Also, completely disregarding plot holes, continuous & unnecessary abuse of certain characters (ahem...Derek), and total out of character-ness (Derek being completely chill & zen for no fucking reason) & (Stiles not even showing signs of PTSD after being possessed)...ugh. This isnāt cleverness. This is just lazy, unimaginative writing. This is just Jeff Davis throwing bullshit at the wall, hoping that it sticks, and hoping that fans will be too tired to point out how it all doesnāt make sense.Ā
Teen Wolf derailed the entire show the moment Jeff & the writers fell into the whole, ādarker & scarier equals betterā formula. Which isnāt an exaggeration. Literally, each new season is promoād as being āthis is going to be the scariest season everā, ālooool, weāre going to go darker than ever this timeā. And guess what...itās nonsense. But the writers are completely aware of their absolute failure at keeping the show popular, so they continue their attempt to infuse new seasons with season 1-2 nostalgia... things like lacrosse, carbon copied characters for the showās new generation, Masonās out of place, watered-down, completely dry impression of Stilesā S2 happy-go-lucky humor...ugh.Ā
Okay, so then ravewulf decides to say that the PR is to blame for most of the shit that went down with the show & the mistreatment of fans, and that people blame Jeff Davis for everything when they shouldnāt. Not true. Ex-fans blame Jeff, the writers, & the PR department as a collective, because they all played their hand in destroying the show & tormenting the fans.
Jeff does, in fact, take the brunt of the fandomās anger. As he should. And whyās that? Well, itās because heās the showrunner. It is his job to lead the show & itās his job to speak out when things go wrong. Thus far, he has completely ignored his duties as a showrunner & the fans arenāt going to play games with him. Every other showrunner will take to social media or release some sort of interview or statement to help ease fandom unrest for any sort of reason, but Jeff has been silent since 2012 because he canāt handle critique, criticism, & simple trolls. Other showrunners also try to improve their weaknesses & fix errors within their show. Jeff ignores everything and has barreled forward through multiple seasons with the hope that fans will forget...we didnāt.
Not only that, but Jeff has prided himself as the showrunner multiple times. He has openly bragged about being not weighed down by MTV executives & that they typically donāt cast shadows over whatever creative vision he wants to implement into the show. And he has boasted to fans that he is the one that makes the decisions, that fans have no say in what happens, & that heās going to do whatever he wants whether people like it or not. Thatās not how you make a show...thatās how you get your show knocked down from scoring 2+ million views per episode, right down to barely scraping by with 400k views.
So....Jeffās going to take every bit of shit that fans decide to give him. This is clearly the way that he wanted things to pan out for himself, because if he wanted things to be different, he would have built a better relationship between himself & fans. He would have course-corrected, listened to fandom noise, listened to his cast, analyzed all of the signs that he was sinking deeper into failure, & he wouldnāt have laughed himself out of the chance to stay beloved by fans.
Ravewulf does say that Jeff Davis is the figurehead & scapegoat for the fandomās negative experience with what happened on & around the show. And thatās very true. But you know what, itās his show. Itās his brand. Itās his vision. Itās his choices. He shouldnāt have been so smug & childish when it came down to mending the dissolving relations with the fans that supported his show from the beginning. He doesnāt get to complain about the price he now has to pay.
At the end of the day, I truly believe that Sterek was the make it or break it element for Teen Wolf. The showās decision to use Sterek shippers as a tool to gain viewers & recognition, followed by the showās decision to completely shut Sterek fans out & remove all Sterek from the show was their breaking point. Jeffās decision to purposely shut out fans & write against/ignore everything fans wanted (even small things: like learning Derekās age, or Sheriffās name, or seeing Allisonās funeral, or Stiles dealing w/ PTSD, or Stilesā bisexuality, etc.) broke the show.
