Before, in a version of his life Henry prefers not to dwell on much any longer, there had been one thing he had looked forward to.

Fatherhood.

He had always known he would eventually have to face the music and marry. While the best he could hope for was a lavender marriage back then, the thought of having a child had been the one thing in the murky image of his future that had not made him shudder in horror to imagine.

How that child would come to exist, on the other hand, made him want to crawl out of his skin. But it was something he'd deal with when the time came, something he could deal with if it meant having a family of his own. It had to be.

He refused to let the crown take that shred of hope from him.

That is not to say that it didn't come with it's own fears and anxieties.
