HAPPY BIRTHDAY KKOTDA (DEAR-KOI) ˖°𓇼
for a month with so little notable (national - us) holidays, august sure is a busy month for dear-koi (both this blog and i have our birthdays in august!). to celebrate, i am planning on opening rolling slots for art requests! it'll be on a first come first served basis. i will close requests on september 1, 2024 (no more requests will be accepted when september starts)
what this means:
all of my followers, mutuals or not, are eligible to participate! please no requests sent with anonymous! they will not be honored! (i don't plan on publically posting requests unless given explicit permission! so please allow images in your ask box or dms open!)
please continue reading to learn how to participate and other important rules!
how to participate:
in an ask (or dm if we're mutuals), tell me what you'd like! character only art and selfship are the ones i'm most comfortable doing, but i'm willing to hear out other requests (oc's for example). maximum of 7 requests (characters) per person are allowed! note: you will not need to provide me with any sort of monetary compensation in order to participate! i will not accept any monetary compensation! (i don't have the means to do so). this is supposed to be all in good fun, to practice and develop a style i think suits me! so taking money for making your request a guinea pig would make me feel all types of guilty (if you really feel the need, tell me your favorite song(s)! i'm always open to new music! better yet, donate to a palestinian family!) for selfship art requests, please also include a picrew from which i can color pick (i.e. the more accurate the picrew's colors are, the more personable it can be!) and reference poses. if the picrew is not accurate, please feel free to provide preferred hex codes or color 'swatches'! vague descriptions like dark brown aren't very helpful and might make the situation uncomfortable (though i will of course honor any changes that are needed!). i will honor character requests from any media even if i am not a part of said fandom group! (i will ask for no idol/celebrity requests though because i am uncomfortable with that, sorry in advance for any inconvenience!) for oc art, please provide as many details, references, picrews as possible. i absolutely do not want to mess something as precious and valuable as an oc up. i will try my very best to fulfill your request to fit the image you had in mind! tl;dr: give me so much information i have to spend days reading (also i forgot to say this but if you'd like a background that isn't white, you're more than welcome to change the color! transparent is also an option!)
ok to draw:
people (characters, etc), small animals (like pets), sfw (suggestive is also okay with enough reference pictures!), chibi
not ok to draw:
nsfw (i'm not that good yet, i'm sorry T-T), gore/horror, overly complicated things (i'll let you know if it gets too complicated)—basically just ask, and i will tell you!
please keep in mind:
i am slowly getting back into drawing (but i was never good in the first place tbh...) so i'm still very much learning! my art style currently is still a lot of mimicking (i do not use fanart as references, please don't misunderstand!!!), and as such i will ask you all to keep your expectations very very low T-T like rock bottom low...
default art will have a white background! i can and will color if colors are provided! (but there won't be any crazy good rendering, i'm sorry ;-;)
the purpose of this event is me practicing and learning art, but it's also me giving back to my beautiful friends who make the world go round! thank you so much for trusting me with your request(s) and i will do my utmost to make it come to life! if you'd like a 'portfolio' of sorts, please search the lovekoi tag! it is my art tag that i'm using and all of my stuff will be there (there's not a whole bunch though unfortunately >.<)
if you have any questions, please ask! i feel like i've left out a lot of things...
and finally, some parting words:
dear-koi has come a really long way i think. i moved here on a whim and essentially lost all of my previous mutuals (i should've just shared the url... </3) but you all found me again! and new people found me too! i'm so honored to have been worthy of the follow to following transition, you guys will not believe the squeals every time people i've looked up to like big time became mutuals with me... it's still crazy to me actually... but that aside, thank you for spending my birthday and dear-koi's 1st anniversary with me! here's to many more!
i love you all, please remember to smile today ᰔᩚ

PRESENTING THE REDESIGN OF THE GIRLBOSS QUEEN AMAYA 📢🗣🗣(I AM SO HAPPY TO HAVE FINISHED THE DRAWINGS)
It should be noted that this is a redesign for the Wish Au character written by @ animación , who helped me with the ideas and references for Amaya's design,@ animación it is very fun to collaborate with you :D
Now I will start to explain how we came to make this design:
-At first I didn't have many ideas for their design (the truth is before I was concentrating more on Aster and Asha) so I decided to watch the Whis movie to get a better idea of the aesthetic I wanted to look for them………yes, the movie is not that good, later I will talk about my opinion of the movie but in terms of design I was disappointed that out of so many possibilities for the design and costumes of royalty, Disney chose a neutral color palette with small details of blue color, I don't know, I feel like there were so many striking possibilities wasted for they desings.
-Well, continuing with the topic, the author of this Au Wish sent me references about what her vision was about the design of Amaya, which were mostly about the storyboards of the movie, I really liked the idea, since it gave me vibes of a threatening but elegant queen, she also sent me some concept art of Mother Gothel that I used as a reference for the structure of Amaya's face
This gave me the idea of also using Sephora that belongs to the movie "The Prince of Egypt" as a reference for the aesthetic that I more or less wanted for the character.
so first I decided to practice the structure of the face to familiarize myself with the design :D (I clarify that I traced the structure of the drawings here because it was just a practice, I used none of these sketches in the final result)
After a while I started making my own sketches when I finally understood how to draw the face
(For the hairstyle, I was guided by the photos that the author sent me, I almost forgot to put that😅)
-I also decided that instead of putting a crown on Amaya, I put a kind of headband with a jewel, because in addition to being comfortable, practical and cute (something that greatly characterizes Amaya's style)
It is also a parallel to my Asha design which has a diamond-shaped tattoo on her forehead.
-Now talking about Amaya's dress, yes or yes I wanted to design a cape with a hood, although at first I thought about adding a neckline to the top part of the dress, an idea came to me which was to be inspired by the Greek mythology character Circe, since curiously she is also a sorceress, I mentioned this to the author and she mentioned that at first when trying to draw her she was inspired by the conceptual art of Megara, who is also Greek, so in the end she decided that maybe the queen comes from from a town in Greece (Also this could have something to do with her backstory 👀)
-At some point in the story we discover that Amaya keeps different potions inside her dress (I guess for emergencies, I don't know), that's why I decided that the dress has a small opening, because in addition to making it easier for you to walk, it would also help you. get your potions out in an easier way (her potions are attached to a belt that would be on her leg or waist I suppose).
-In the end I designed these 3 prototypes and sent them to the author to help me decide which one to choose or which to combine because the truth is I couldn't choose alone (I'm too indecisive). As I said, I was inspired by the character of Circe, so I looked for references of how the Greek goddesses dressed in ancient paintings, and if you look a little closer you can notice that I added the Leo symbol, since it represents the lion. , an animal that was associated with the Greek mythology character I mentioned
Another important detail is the moons on her dress, since it represents motherhood, an aspect that Amaya uses as a facade with her people, and speaking of space, the writer gave me the idea that Magnifico represents the sun since in her own words:
"I know the association with the sun and the moon fits their personalities really well. As the sun can be seen as bright, fun and warm like Magnifico presents himself, but it can also be a force of destruction that burns and is unpredictable. And the moon can be associated with Amaya for being a protective glow in the darkness like how she presents herself as a caring guide, but the moon also has a mysterious dark side we can never see.And the moon only shines to us because the sun is shining on it, so like… Amaya only shines because she’s next to Magnifico"
(Honestly, I'm always surprised by how much symbolism the writer can find for the characters, I only put it in because of what I mentioned before and because I thought it looked cute lol).
(I came up with the belt and most of the costume thanks to this circe painting)
-Don't think that I decided on the colors yellow and dark blue just because they go together well, nonono, this one also has a meaning :D , you see, while I was looking at some of Wish's concept art there were these discarded designs of Magnifico:
And doing a little google search I found this:
-That's why I chose these colors, blue is a color that represents the truth, something that Amaya and Magnifico want to pretend, but the color yellow represents what they truly are, liars.
-And finally (because this writing is taking me more than 2 hours) the roses that are in her dress and hair are natural, and without giving you too many spoilers about the rewrite, Amaya suddenly ages a little, and when this happens the roses also have a change as they wither
Final comments :D
wow, that was quite long ,wasn't it?, I'm more than happy with the result, I hope you like it too, @annymation and I've put a lot of effort into this design and history of Amaya :)

BOBA AU - CHAPTER 1 EXTRAS
I had actually drawn a few more things than could fit within the 30-image-per-post limit. Here are the ones that didn't make the cut, with commentary!
(tw: mild animal abuse, n*zi mention, suggestive themes)
Zilch's animal companions. I named Carmina Burana and Tortellini, Gucci and Bosch were named by my friends - though Bosch was supposed to be called Hieronymus, it just didn't fit on the nametag lol
I wanted to illustrate some examples of Zilch casually mistreating/neglecting the animals but this was as far as I got. I don't think he would be a full on animal abuser, just... the type of person who likes having a bunch of pets to show off but doesn't really think about properly caring for them. He likes the aesthetics of animals much more than the logistics.
This was gonna be the chapter cover and I forgot. Oops.
This was just practice drawing the church characters from their sprites.
Zilch: I must say, it's an unexpected pleasure to run into another kindred spirit around here. I'm Zilch~
This scene was actually cut deliberately. I drew it before I decided exactly what the Nun's issue with Zilch would be and then once I did, I felt like it didn't fit anymore. Zilch is still excited to see someone else with ears and tail like him, but in the final version, he's a lot more derisive about it.
I imagine the Nun is, like, an actual animal-human hybrid whereas Zilch is a furry with a wallet that can afford bioengineered bodymods. (One day, my friends... one day...)
Zilch being flippant and Halara being dismissive/tsundere. Couldn't really find a place to put it but I still like the drawing - even if I did accidentally give Zilch human ears.
By the way, you might notice Zilch hasn't been wearing his cap. There are two reasons. One is to show off that his ears aren't actually connected to it. If I had the time to go back and redraw the prologue with him wearing it - so Halara's "holy fuck" reaction makes more sense here - I would. (Not really worth trying to fix though, not until the rest of the story is done.)
But the other reason is that upon looking closer at Zilch's original design, I thought it was a little too evocative of Nazi imagery and wasn't really comfortable with it. It's not really the same style of hat, sure, but combined with the swastikas in his eyes??? yeah no way is that not intentional. (I redesigned his eye symbols to be catlike slit pupils instead.)
I get he (or, the hitman, I guess) is supposed to be a villain, and a minor one, in the original game... but here I'm gonna flesh him out a bit more. So I guess in that sense the removal of the hat symbolizes his growth as a character beyond his terrible awful fascist upbringing lol (more on that in the Gumshoe Gabs soon)
If I were making this an actual game it would be fun to have Yuma get a fun little added gameplay element of using Zilch's Forte like he does with Halara's. He gets some little animal friends!!!
I imagined Zilch would ask to be carried, but Halara won't do it without getting paid an exorbitant amount. And then Zilch forks over the cash on the spot. Yuma screams internally. If he had that the whole time why were they even trying to negotiate over the coat???!? Why does he still have his own debt to pay if Zilch could just cover the whole thing up front????
Halara has to pretend not to be enthusiastic about this opportunity.
Shinigami is... there, I guess.
Martina my wife driving around her little parasite of a boyfriend. Ms Electro please call me
Was originally gonna have Seth say that out loud but then I remembered he doesn't want to lose his job. (It's okay, he loses it anyway.)
(Also yes this is pre-Vivia-DLC.)
And then the mystery is solved!
Zilch feels indebted to Halara for saving him from the Nail Man, and wants to follow their example, turn it around, treat his animals better... his act of goodwill here is extremely performative, though. But, hey, everyone's gotta start somewhere!
Ultimately I cut this scene after coming up with the cat bed idea. (Was very tempted to have Halara cruelly taking the coat from the boy, but just decided to skip it instead.)
So Zilch kinda idolizes Halara now... which is fine... but then the morning after he really lets his simp flag fly.
Congrats on your furry boyfriend, I guess?????
A doodle from the margins of this comic way back when.... which finally has a place to belong! \o/
Zilch's fursona. His "zursona," if you will.
Thanks again for reading! I love everyone's comments in the tags and I'm so glad you all like my version of Zilch especially. Excited to develop him some more in future chapters >:)

Hello hello, I love your work and was wondering if you'd be open to making a little breakdown of your art style?
It's really interesting to me and I love taking bits of different artists art style elements and incorporating them into my doodles to get better
Totally okay if you don't want to! 💜💜💜
Take care and have an amazing life 🤗💜☺️
Hello!! Thanks for asking 🤗 I'm not making a little breakdown of my art style I already WROTE A WHOLE ESSAY ABOUT IT!!
Sorry I exaggerated it a bit🥲🥲...
I was very happy to receive this ask, but at the same time I felt worried. Honestly, I didn’t know how to give you a relevant answer because I don’t even think I have a consistent art style 🥲. Except for my usual chibi style which I feel most comfortable with, I feel my style constantly changes. So after going back to review my old paintings, I think my style is a combination of children's book illustrations and Japanese anime style. Many times I have received comments about my paintings looking like they are from children's books, and I agree haha, maybe because I mostly draw small characters in big settings and I usually use bright colors.
My favorite artists:
My drawing style is mostly influenced by my all time favorite artists Heikala and Koyamori, I stumbled across their Insta accounts during my 1st year in college (that was 10 years ago) and from then my drawing style gradually took shape. I also admire Paulina Cassidy, mostly because I like her whimsical nature sprites theme. Recently I’ve been investing in Stephanie Law’s artwork, her coloring technique is so god-like that I hope one day I can reach that level…
Ideas and Inspirations:
Japanese anime/manga culture has had a great impact on my childhood. It was a dream come true for me to be able to pursue my college study in Japan. I think this journey greatly affected my current style. I draw lots of things from small doodles to funny comics. I'd describe my drawings as “silly and cute” since I love to make people laugh and I also live for the fluffs (Sometimes I drew angst too but it still turned out cute haha..). Aside from that, I prefer making “storytelling” illustrations with colorful backgrounds. My favorite things to draw are tiny characters in big scenery, I like to create peaceful static moments that when looking at them help warm my heart and calm my mind.
When making game fanarts, I usually take screenshots as references for background and imagine how the character will act in that setting. I just do what I feel comfortable and use my own judgment for composition … which… sometimes results in weird perspectives (and you know what I’ve just discovered the rule of third recently 😅…).
Characters:
When it comes to drawing characters, I honestly don't know how to explain my style. I think chibi is my most recognizable style, apart from that I usually draw characters in semi-chibi (is it the right way to call it??) or simple anime style. I don’t usually draw characters with dynamic poses or movements ( that’s why I still suck at anatomy and expression 😩😩). I think I’m shifting from anime to a more cartoon style since I kinda have same face problem and I’m trying to practice face shapes.
I think my character drawing style is most influenced by Akihiko Yoshida (who is behind many FF/Nier/ bravely default concepts), as I always draw my characters with chubby round faces and dreamy eyes. I made an example of how I usually draw my characters below.
Technique:
Watercolor technique is quite complex so I’ll explain how I always do my paintings in another sharing post. I’ve posted part 1 of my sharing here. Generally, I love using bright, saturated tones and black ink brush pen or color brush to paint line work.
. I hope I could answer your question. I’m definitely no expert, all the things about art I've learn was self-taught but I'm happy to help anyway I can. 💕💕
And you 🫵🫵 yes you dear sweet anon! I wish you a happy life too!!!! 💕💕

HERE IT IS
this is my definitely completely necessary, i promise, sonic style study!! i spent nine and a half hours on this canvas! aaa! i will master this style if it's the last thing i do!!!
more about my process under the cut!
the purpose of this study was to really get the proportions down as i figure out how sonic characters fit into my style. for this specific study i was mainly looking at the model sheets for the sonic team racing animation. i like the cartoony/sharp style combined with the more modern designs. eye and especially muzzle shapes played an important part in my progress with this.
my process began with looking at the sheets for sonic and shadow specifically-- sonic, because he's the blueprint for the style, and shadow because he's a lot like sonic and also i lov ehim. you can see i took lots of notes and "measurements" at first (on the left) and heavily referenced the poses from the model sheets. i made an effort to avoid relying on tracing at this stage. (and later on, i colored using my best judgement-- no color picking! gotta train your eye for color too!)
there's still so many intricacies that i'm trying to get an eye for, but after this i feel a lot more confident in portraying this style in a way that satisfies me. there's just so much to balance!!
after i felt comfortable with my more scientific approach, i tried getting more expressive, experimenting with different expressions and poses that i thought fit the characters (and injecting some of my headcanons obviously). this was to practice conveying each character's personality and as well as drawing them in ways that weren't completely static, like so much of my art has been lately (character designing kinda leans into that...)
i would have drawn more but i ran out of space and got tired lol. perhaps i'll do a part two, because i want to draw more characters interacting than who i usually gravitate towards. amy and knuckles were a dip into that. (side note, i was kinda shocked at how much easier knuckles was to draw with the right references, and how difficult amy is despite looking similar to sonic and shadow, who i have a lot more experience with. it's her hair...)
anyway, i'm very proud to have completed this, and i feel like it helped me improve so much! i highly recommend style studies if you have the patience for it. you can get the same effect by just drawing the characters a lot, but it feels good to sit down and really dedicate some time and space to it. for me anyway :)
#sonic the hedgehog#amy rose#shadow the hedgehog#tails the fox#knuckles the echidna#sonic#my art#astrophysician#does anyone know if tumblr still only tracks the first five tags....#i'd really. really like to use a lot more for my art sometimes#also ugh i'm sorry rouge but there wasn't enough room for you :(((#i'll have to put her in the next one#omega too... but i doubt i'll find a model sheet for him as easily#and i'm kinda scared of drawing robots LOL#omg. i have to include eggman too eventually#AND METAL SONIC. MAN.#hmm.... noticing a bit of a theme here....#...sth needs more girls

Hello sorry to be a bother but I was wondering if you have drawing recommendations? Because Art block has captured me -_- and Body poses are so hard to draw in my opinion so any recommendations?
Again sorry to bother you Have a lovely day Melissa ! ❤
Annie .
Hello, Annie!!!
Oh heavens- you aren’t a bother at all!! I’m so very happy to help other artists in any way I can!! :)
OOoOooOoO Art Block takes another victim~ Dude, I get it- it feels horrible as an artist or any kind of creative when you just feel- STUCK. Stagnant. Dain Bread. I have been there, and I will do my best to help you out of it. :)
So, first off- and I’ll use my own art to help you visualize this- I would go straight to trying to draw two characters interacting with each other.
They can be chatting, arguing, or just sitting in silence.
If you want to try something a bit more difficult, but still pretty fun, you can take things a step further and have the two characters physically touching and interacting with each other like this.
Physical contact between characters is far more difficult to make it look natural, but with a lot of practice, (and ESPECIALLY looking at references), you’ll learn to figure out how to draw the poses. :)
Next would be trying to draw different things and in different styles.
I NEVER draw the 2012 series style. EVER. And believe me, it was ROUGH learning how to draw all the funky shapes and sharp but rounded edges, and the PLASTRONS- GEEZ THE PLASTRONS STILL GIVE ME A HEADACHE
But getting out of my comfort zone and trying to visualize and draw something new was really good for me in growing as an artist. So I encourage you to draw things you don’t normally. :) A character or style from a tv show; cartoony, anime, sharp, rounded, chibi or whatever!
Also never underestimate what drawing silly things will do for your spirit ;) MY OLDER SISTER ALWAYS CALLS THEM FROGS- WHAT THE HECK, MEL?!?!??
And finally. Draw something that goes deep. Draw something that has left an impact on your heart. Something that can make you feel loved, sad, happy, or even mournful.
For me, this was this little sketch of Lotus finally learning to find contentment and joy during her long recovery. This sketch symbolizes my own battle for joy and hope when I’ve spent thousands on doctor’s visits, and return home with empty hands and zero answers. My recovery is still happening, but every day God guides me through. Every day He teaches me to be content and hopeful.
I hope all this helps! :) The best thing to fight art block is to KEEP DRAWING ANYWAY. To keep creating ANYWAY. So don’t give up- don’t give in- keep on going. :)
~ Melissa

I don't know if you've ever been asked this question, but I was wondering:
Did you learn to draw somewhere, or were you self-taught? Maybe you have some tips or hints for beginners? What was your favourite thing about drawing?
Sorry if this ask is too personal, but I really like your drawing style and wanted to ask some advice :D Have a good day! 🌸
it's a mix of both, really! i grew up loving art from the very beginning, like. im talking about making teletubbies fanarts and asking my dad to make me learn to draw characters from w.i.t.c.h. and tomb raider fandsndfs, according to my parents i had a pencil in my hands before i even started talking -- and that's what led me to actually learn to draw "properly", first in a art-centered high school (that. did less than good to me tbf but it was a matter of 90% of the art-related teachers being garbage) and the comics academy in torino where i think i started to truly "understand" what i wanted from my art style
if i may give some advices other than the good ol' "keep practicing and try to at least doodle something once a day", i could go with:
don't compare yourself to other artists negatively, especially those younger than you. it's probably the hardest part, but you need to "force yourself" to be positive. if you find yourself thinking "this 14 years old draws better eyes than me", go with "i love how they draw eyes, let's see if i can learn from it"
copy copy copy copyyyyy!!!!! copy from references, copy from photos, copy from comics, copy from movies. of course don't plagiarize people and then present that stuff as your own, but try to make a pose yours and learn to take pictures of your own hands, feet, face or ask people to pose if you can't find the right position
your art will look like shit to you, a LOT of times, but know that at one point you're going to quit. if you don't like what you're drawing, either quit there or restart, don't try to "fix" it because you'll just end up noticing more and more issues with it - issues that, most of the times, aren't even issues to begin with. letting go of perfectionism is very difficult, but at some point you'll have to do that--
and about perfectionism, a VERY good exercise we did in comics school was being forced to "draw fast". this isn't me telling you you NEED to draw as quick as possible, but it's an exercise that forces you to learn quickly where certain body parts go, to prioritize specific details rather than others. we had a model, and at first we had to sit there for an hour drawing her, then the hour became 30 minutes, then 10, then 5, and at the end 1. it took us a few lessons to do that, but at the end the super sketchy 1 minute copy went from ???? to a stylized human figure!!!
learn to draw realistic anatomy, and then make it your own style.
for the love of god learn prespective it's a bore it's a chore but as soon as you learn that everything becomes SO much easier
for shading, just. put a point in the canvas where the light source is and go from there!! if the light is on the right, the shades will be on the left
if you're coloring, play with the shades' colors. a good idea is to use the opposite color you use for the lights - if the light is yellow, the shades look great in purples, for example just don't use pure black unless you wanna go for a more dark/noir aesthetic oh my god
professional comic artists retrace a lot of their backgrounds. i'm js. use this as you wish :)
learn to draw different body shapes!!!! like getting out of the anime phase of "fat people are just like thin people but with a huge belly" can be difficult, but it's very satisfying
go out of your comfort zone. if you have problems drawing horses, spend a few days learning to draw horses. take some pics and try to understand them.
body proportions are so fun once you realize how so many things are the same. generally speaking, your spread hand is as long as your face, your feet and half the size of your arm; the outer corner of your eye is at the same level of your ear, and the inner corner is perpendicular to your nose and the corner of your mouth; if you leave your arm on your side, your elbow is at the same level of your bellybutton, and your fingers reach halfway your thighs. it's so fun
and yea, i can't stress it enough. it'll take time. art is painful, art is stressful, art can be discouraging. take a step at the time, accept some failures and celebrate any good thing - even the smaller ones. you learned to draw hands today, and you should be proud. i tried to draw a cat for the first time and it looks wonky, but the cat you will draw tomorrow will look better. i believe in you

WAIT wait wait this just occurred to me. If a catgirl (or doggirl, or indeed any creature-human with ears sticking up out of their head) was muslim, would their nekomimi need to be covered? Or could they have hijabs with holes in the top for their little kitty ears? Inquiring minds want to know bc given the propensity of cats to lie on prayer mats, I absolutely think many catgirls would be muslim.
All cats are Muslim 😌
To answer your question, though, there’s two answers to it:
1. There’s no rule because like, the Quran doesn’t really talk about cobsiderations for catgirls or fantasy races, I doubt any scholars have made rulings on it, and you could not pay me to go ask a local Imam his thoughts about it ñflgldñglfllgkg
2. That being said, I don’t often draw anthros, but I do tend to draw lots of fantasy characters, many of which have elven ears or something similar. I commonly draw them as having holes for their ears/horns/etc because it seems the most practical and comfortable in some situations, but it would depend on the anatomy (even with elven ears, for example, there’s different shapes and sizes, so a half-elf or someone with smaller ears probably would be fine without holes, whereas someone with large elf ears or animal ears wouldn’t easily be able to). Not to invoke real religion talk into silly hijabi catgirl discussions but faith isn’t meant to be a burden, and I think in this hypothetical, having to wear a scarf that covers and pins down your ears seems seems unnecessary and uncomfortable.
For my fantasy characters with different anatomy, I tend to put a lot of thought into how they veil, though I tend to do that with every character but it’s fun to come up with the logistics of say, wearing a niqab when you have horns. I’d add some images and compare designs for various characters of mine and why they have their specific style of hijab and the considerations, but I am on mobile right now and technically I should be working.
As a side note, at this point I feel like I should have an FAQ with this sorta question in it because over the years I have been asked a shocking amount of questions about islamic catgirl modesty 😂

Hey losers!
Do YOU want pixel art of your OC? A real life painting of YOUR animal companion? Well you are in luck! I need practice with BOTH!
-
The pixel art characters are simple little doodles, but I can add up to two things in their hands, or one big accessory(see examples below). They'll cost about $3-7 depending on complexity.
I am willing to try drawing just about anything, but keep in mind the style of character does not lend itself to a great deal of detail, and since these are for practice, things may not turn out exactly as you planned.
These will be paid for in total upfront through PayPal.
Estimated time for completion: 1-2 days
Examples:
-
The pet portraits will be real, physical paintings that I will mail to you. I can add whatever you want to them, and the stranger the animal the better. They will cost around $50-80(plus shipping) depending on the size of the canvas.
As of right now, I am only offering single animal portraits until I am more confident in my skill.
I will need a high quality photo of your animal with little to no other objects in frame. I will also need an address to mail the finished product to. Under no circumstances will I share anyone else's personal information, but if you are not comfortable sharing your address, then I cannot send you the painting.
These will be paid for half up front, half upon completion through PayPal.
Estimated time for completion: 7-10 days

Woody: Hi, there's a letter for you from my creator. And I'm sorry that without knocking, you just have a hole in the wall there. But keep the letter and good luck.
Jusko! Woody! You scared me, man…(Are you wearing a mailman outfit?)
Oh uhh…You got a letter for us from your creator?
Thanks, careful on your way out!
…Tan-awon nato ni…Oh it’s a bunch of questions! Cool, been dying of boredom in my little canvas here.
“How are you doing with your art?” Doing good! Since I have a few characteristics like my creator I have the same art style as her! Though I prefer different brushes than she, but this is the only brush I have access to…She currently isn’t here so I’ll answer for her. Hold on, let me just…
Here! Creator has been practicing how to draw characters in a style she is comfortable with, since she doesn’t know her art style yet she is currently looking for it. And also practicing uhhh….
…Anatomy….
Anyways, next question! “How is your creator doing?”
She’s doing fine, just got back home, but tired due to traveling around hometown all day, but you know her, always like that, uhhh “What will you plan in your drawings in the future?”
She plans to get better, maybe even create her own series, but when she has time and fixes her writing skills, she wants to learn how to animate as well, so the list is she wants to learn/have animation, anatomy, her own style, and maybe a series if we are lucky.
Thank you for taking the time to make such things! Creator read your note and is really happy and thankful as well, and is really looking forward to your future in art, Woody, thank you so much and I hope this is enough. See you!
Wait what happened to my art style—

[ID: Photos showing the progression of a chibi-style drawing of Gale Dekarios, done with marker and colored pencil. In Thorass, the word "Illusion" is written on the left side of Gale, while "Gale Dekarios, Wizard of Waterdeep" is written to his right. /End ID]
Did a chibi Gale!!! I really just wanted to practice drawing him. I know my current style is pretty repetitive (hell, I trace a cutout to get the base shape correct) but it's what I'm most comfortable/confident with right now. I'm currently flirting with the idea of making a Gale paper doll, so this gave me an idea of what he might look like!
More rambling under the cut!
Things I wish I'd done differently:
The bracers and belt. Dear gods. I tried the details in the base sketch and realized it looked awkward so I erased it, and then when I went to do my initial line I just started drawing them in again! Next time I draw this outfit I will definitely NOT ink those in that way!
I wish I could do more shading. I'm not really sure how to shade, but it's harder with colored pencils when your color options are limited and you can't just slap on a Multiply layer. I tried to shade on the leg with black colored pencil and I wish I had tried that on a different project first 😔. I also think the arms and torso blend together bc even with the little shading I tried they're still not distinct.
Overall I think I could have found a better balance with the details. The bracers and belt did not need to be that complicated compared to the pants and boots and earring. I just kind of got lost in the lines when I was trying to get the shape of Gale's belt figured out.
This is less a critique and more a lament, but I really wish I had more markers and some paint pens. They would have really spiced this up!
His eye shines looked so good in the sketch and then I messed them up with the first brown pencil and couldn't fix it 😞
Things I like in this piece:
I like the way the orb and the lines came out! I'm not very good with inking fine details like that, so I'm happy with the way it turned out.
I really like the shade of colored pencil I found for the robes. It's almost exactly the shade of the robes in game.
Though I wish I could have made the eyes darker, I still like the way they turned out. I'm not really sure how to draw eyes that aren't anime-girl-shaped, but I tried to convey Gale's sweetness and softness. (I did forget about the eye whites when drawing on his face-lines, though...)
Despite going overboard with the details I do still like that I was able to do them. The belt turned out messier than intended but I think I figured it out in the end, and having never drawn a bearded character before I think I did a decent job!
I was honestly really nervous about this one until I put down his hair and face colors. That was a really fun moment when it all came together! I think adding in color really helps with a style like mine, because otherwise I find the details kind of mush together.
By the way, I wrote "Illusion" in Thorass next to him because of how much the word gets associated with him in game. If you choose to do Gale's Weave Sex Scene, the book you look at on his balcony says "Illusion" in Thorass, albeit backwards and upside-down.
Things I want to work on next time I draw:
Body types!! I know when drawing in chibi style it's hard to show a character's actual body, but I want to make it obvious that this Gale is chubby!! I think widening the chest would help with that, and rounding out the torso in general as well.
Shading, as mentioned above. That might be something I have to practice with digital art, but maybe someone out there is an expert at colored pencil art and can throw me some advice.
I want to make him even Gale-ier. I wanted to include all his wrinkles and put some gray in his hair but the former is difficult in my style without making him look angry and the latter is hard when I don't have any silver drawing tools other than a regular pencil. I think he's pretty Gale-y already, but I want more.
I need to be more careful not to press my pencil in so hard when getting my shape down and sketching. I can see lines in the paper where the sketch happened :(
I gotta get a better idea of what his boots look like. And learn how to draw boots in general. Lol.

I love your art style and how you draw hands! Mind showing us how you draw said hands? ✋🤌✌🤟
Hey there, thank you so much for your kind words! ✨
I really if I'll ever be able to explain how I draw hands with pedagogy, but I'll give out some tips that were always useful to me and I'll break down some sketches with notes explaining the creation process!
👌 ||| t i p s
• Draw the hands. Keep drawing it. Sketch it several times on the side if you're unsure and need to practice with the pose - but draw it. No one's gonna think less of you if it looks clumsy. But draw the damn hands! Just like everything else in art, practice is key and you won't get it anywhere else.
• Look at hands. Look at your own hands, at other people's hands. At the way hands are drawn in your favourite manga/comic/cartoon/anime, how artists render their hands - try to look for their personal tricks. Is it obvious that they use references? Do they simplify the process by stylising hands? How do they deal with foreshortening?
• Give your hands some character. I know it's hard to get the hang of it in the first place, but a big part of learning how to draw human figures is all about diversification. Learn to draw all kinds of hands, and when you draw them, ask yourself - who do they belong to? Height, weight, age, body shape, fashion, hobbies and work - these are parameters that will shape your hands. And to an extent, that will also determine the position you want them in.
• Struggling with the position? Go for an alternative. Sketch out the overall rudimentary shape of what you might have in mind. Use a bigger brush or a marker and determine the silhouette of the hands with no outline. Go for something simpler. Practice on another canvas; if you're struggling with a position, try drawing it from another angle or with another shape of hand; if you're struggling with a shape of hand, try drawing it from another position or another angle until you get the hang of it more naturally; if you're struggling with the angle, try drawing it with a simpler shape of hand and adjust it until you're satisfied.
🌟 ||| b r e a k d o w n
I gathered some old sketches of Bella Yaga that I lined and finished. I put the creation process with notes under the readmore! Fair warning, my sketches are horrendous and barely readable.
When I start constructing a character's base, I want to determine the position's dynamism right away - I find my balance with a few strokes, and I by the time I'm satisfied with the rough base, I know what the hands are supposed to be like, even if my sketch indicates nothing. Here's my thought process:
You'll see that being comfortable plays a huge part in how you construct your sketches. I used a character that I know by heart, so the shape and position of her hands came to me naturally - if it was someone I wasn't familiar with, the sketch would have been a lot more detailed and hesitant.
I tend to determine the details when I draw the lineart because it's a lot more efficient and time-saving - but you're free to draw an additional sketch to detail your hands before you line them.
Here's the finished look!
Thank you so much for your ask, I really appreciate your kind words 💕 I hope I made sense here and my tips will be useful to you!
#.ask#.tuto#.art#earwig and the witch#.bella#im unable to be normal about hands and i actively enjoy drawing them fr#thanks a lot tho i really appreciate the validation <3

Hi there @tea-n-ink !
Figured it'd be easier to try and answer this as a post rather than in comments. I'll try to answer the best I can but in all honesty I'm not entirely sure how to answer this question in a way that will be satisfying or insightful. Because while I have an education in visual media and work in the field (which contributes to the studying and progress), a lot of my personal work has been (for lack of a better way to phrase it) "fucking around and finding out" for better AND for worse. A lot of how I work is both in contrast to what's required of me of my job but also based on habits built to perform that job. So I'm not confident in how much I could recommend approaching art the way I do or how applicable it will be. I can only speak to my own experience. Everyone will want to achieve and pursue different things with their art so I don't think there's going to be a specific answer of exactly what to do. I think I can only recommend some amount of framework to consider at best? I'm also not a good writer and struggle to articulate specifics especially when it comes to my creative process because it's very uh…. soupy? unstructured? But I want to make an attempt! I'm so sorry if this ends up being a rambling mess.
I haven't done studies/ brushing up on basics for a few years and I'm actively feeling the limits of how I draw because of that. So I absolutely would recommend brushing up on the fundamentals and doing studies every now and then to help prevent that kind of rut. I feel like it's something to do relatively consistently? It's like stretching and exercising a muscle to keep it in shape. However, how much and how frequent a person does that is going to be up to them based on what their lifestyle is and I feel this is more of something to consider to do long term over time rather than in short term bursts. But if you have the time to do a lot in the short term and won't impede life responsibilities then that's great! Just remember to take breaks because sometimes what you've learned and observed needs time to sink in. But also to protect your hands and physical health.
As for the "just do studies" / what studies to do, I guess a bit of a combination answer incoming? Because of the nature of my job (what is asked of me and MIGHT be asked of me), doing studies is going to be of the vague/broad variety because of how much possible ground I might need to cover. So I've done studies, sketches, looked at reference material etc. of a bunch of different things for years. A majority was outside of my comfort zone and I think it's important to try to to challenge yourself in such a way every once in a while. And definitely trying to explore many different topics (people, plants, architecture, animals, etc) will give more knowledge and possibilities of things to draw. However, it's also not very realistic to expect anyone to study everything to its minutia. I sure can't! I can try my best to draw some basic structures but I don't have enough knowledge and practice to make a convincing cityscape. And even with all the dabbling in different topics I've had to do, I still focus in more on the most likely things that's required of me or what I personally enjoy to draw on my free time. That tends to be characters. So when I do need to brush up I lean towards anatomy, musculature, human observation, that sort of thing. And I feel regardless of what anyone's style is, If you want to draw figures of any sort, practicing and revisiting that is always helpful! Also doing studies of specific things you want to improve on or things you are aware are your weakness is also an avenue I recommend. I think the last studies I did was of hands because it was something I wanted to improve on at the time. And I think it's high time I give buildings another shot.
As for style it wasn't something I actively worked on or envisioned. Rather, it was the inevitable mishmash of the aesthetic choices I liked in the artwork I enjoyed, habits I formed and not wanting to draw how I needed to during work hours. And this was a slow and gradual process over my whole life so far and it'll keep on going as long as I continue doing art. And I wouldn't consider it a linear progression either as there were many points where I backpedaled on certain choices because I didn't want to do things like that anymore and went another direction. As for how to develop and refine this actively, I can't say for sure. But what I can say is a person's style will be a love letter to the things they enjoy. Inevitably you'll be influenced by the things that speak to you and you might not realize it until years down the line. In my case, Jet Set Radio was something I played as a kid and it deeply impacted how I drew and what art I gravitated to for years before I realized how formative it was. The more you consume what you enjoy, the more it'll show in your art whether consciously or not. I suppose a potential exercise that can be done is maybe looking at several pieces of art you enjoy and trying to figure out exactly what it is about them that you like? Especially if maybe you find a common element to their styles that really speaks to you that you'd like to incorporate into your own art? While I can't say how effective this'll actually be, if I were to say, "Jet Set Radio, The World Ends With You and Dogs: Bullets & Carnage are things that had a lasting impression on me," and then you were to look at my art I think that statement would track.
But I also want to note that when I create I'M ACTUALLY VERY UNSURE OF MYSELF. I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT IM DOING WITH COLOURS AND I'M CONSTANTLY JUST HOPING FOR THE BEST EVERY TIME EVEN THOUGH I DID GO TO SCHOOL FOR WHAT I DO AND I SURE DO WORK HERE NOW. I rely a lot on my gut for things and end up trying over and over, sometimes fully scrapping and then unscrapping before my art gets to whatever I post online. And many things just never end up online. Sometimes things don't work out, and that's ok. And sometimes it feels like things won't work out but then they do. So don't feel discouraged when things don't work out the way you planned. I've found for myself, having a plan in my head of how i want to progress would just contribute to my already abundant anxieties so just letting things happen as they do was really helpful (outside of actual critical deadlines and professional responsibilities). There's always chances to try again and sometimes all you need is a break and to come back to what you were working on with fresh eyes.
I dunno how well this answers your question but I hope you were able to find something helpful amongst my brain soup.

Uhhii!!!! I was wondering if you could do an outsiders matchup for me if you're still doing them? I want it to be a male character please!
Physical description: I have thick shoulder length wavy brown hair. It's really soft (like- it's practically fur) even though I barely do anything to it (like I literally just use shampoo and conditioner wtf-). I have pale skin and blue eyes. I pretty much always have big ol’ bags under my eyes. I usually wear sweatpants and a hoodie along with my black and white converse with little sharpie lines that make them look like paws :3. When I’m not wearing my coat I'll have a slightly oversized T-shirt. I also have this coyote tail I'll clip onto the back of my pants and I've been wearing that a lot! I’m also a bit chubby. (I honestly forgot how tall I am so uh around five and a half)
Personality: I’m pretty quiet until I become friends with someone and then I will just not shut up. I don't really understand other's emotions that well and I have a hard time showing mine. I also have a hard time putting how I'm feeling into words. I tend to struggle with empathy and comforting people. I try to make jokes about bad things happening to me or shared experiences with me and my close friends. I have really high energy except when I’m tired, and then I'll practically be passing out. I tend to hold grudges for a long time. I don't really care about what happens to me which leads me to just not for anything for a few days and I'll be miserable because I don't have anyone with me and I need to be told to take care of things to do it most of the times (like I can barely take care of myself). I qwill however do literally anything for my friends, even if it puts me directly in harm's way. I don't really know what to talk about most of the time so I'll just follow them around like a lost puppy. I also act like some feral gremlin a lot of the time. I show affection like a cat or crow just bringing the people I care about weird little trinkets.
Things I like: PALEONTOLOGY!!!!!!!! Musicals, drawing, animals, and fantasy! I mainly like to draw dragons and dinosaurs and I read books about them lot! My favorite type of book is probably xenofiction!! (Stories told from the perspective of nonhuman things. Like warrior cats or wings of fire!) I love to read and I’m really good with spelling (on paper. I make so many typos omg). I also like going out to the country and howling with the coyotes!!
Other info: I sleep like a cat. I have a hard time falling asleep but I sleep in really weird and uncomfortable positions. I can also bend my fingers back a lot more than normal without touching them(I only found out this wasn't how far everyone else could bend their fingers back this year ;-;) I hate milk. I literally gag while trying todrink it. But I willeat almost everything tgat isn't food! This could be little bits ofetsl, stuff offthe floor, paper, and other stuff. My rule is if I don't gag while trying to ingest it it's fine. (I have a problem.) I’m Transmasc and a gay grey aroace (i think-)! My pronouns are He/It/That
No pressure to do this!! If it isn't enough info I'll happily resend this!
Your Outsiders Ship: Darry Curtis
Explanation: starting off with your looks, I feel like he would be extremely attracted to you. He loves your hair and how soft it is, and I feel like he constantly be running his hands through it or asking if he can run his hands through it I just feel like it’s one of his favorite things to do especially at the end of a long day from work. He just wants to come home and run his hands through your beautiful hair and I support that honestly. He thinks your eyes are gorgeous and wishes that you didn’t have such bags under them if they’re from tiredness and if they’re natural, he’d find them cute but if you were tired and that’s why you always had them he would insist that you go to sleep more because he’s just caring like that. Your casual style is some thing that he can relate to, and I think that he would find your tail utterly adorable. I think he also likes it that you’re short because that’s some thing he would totally tease you about whether it’s just making a joke about it or lifting you up and spinning you around to show the height difference I don’t know. I just feel like he likes his partners shorter. he would start the conversation with you if you were more quiet and as soon as you guys get kind of that past awkward stage and you start talking a lot, he’s honored that you can do that with him and I just feel like he’d be so in love with whatever you have to say. I feel like he relates to not being able to express his emotions properly or really even understand them because I feel like he has some extreme anger issues that can often result in him bursting out into anger when he doesn’t even mean to be that harsh he just doesn’t know how to handle his emotions so I feel like that’s something that you would work together as a couple and he would absolutely understand if you ever had your fits of anger as well and you guys could work through that together and it would be good for the both of you but I feel like it’s something that you would bond or connect over. I’m not sure how he would feel about you casually joking about your trauma. I feel like he’d be a bit uncomfortable with it until he discovers that you really are just fine with it. You humor is way how you cope and it helps you kind of process your emotions and then he supports it and laughs along. You guys would also be perfect because if you can’t care for yourself, he will take care of you. He’s been taking care of people all his life and now he’s kind of used to it so I feel like he would be a great partner to have for you because he would be the one constantly reminding you to drink water eat food. Remember that you have that appointment today remember X and I feel like he would be just a great partner to help you, get back on your feet and get on track. He would be a great person to help you focus as well. he knows how to sort his priorities and would help you with that. He would love any weird little trinkets that you got him and probably cherish them forever and I feel like he would try to get you stuff too, and he would save up at the end of the month from all of his free money that isn’t going directly to bills and food in order to get you a nice gift. He doesn’t get xenofiction at first, but as soon as you introduce this new genre to him, I feel like it expanse his mind on literature because I also think that he’s a frequent reader like I don’t think pony is the only one in the household to Reese I think Darry is a frequent reader when you introduce him to this new genre of book he would totally be in love with it. I just feel like he thinks the concept is incredibly interesting and just yeah, really find it. Fascinating concept. He thinks it’s cool that you’re passionate about so many different things and he hopes one day he can have as many interests you and not feel so bland whenever he’s next to you because I mean you have a lot of different cool things that you’re interested in sometimes he feels like he’s not good enough for you which she would have to reassure him that he is. He’s made fun of you multiple times for your weird sleeping
Positions and I feel like some part of him is still satisfied though because he just likes seeing you and looking at you so relaxed in here really weird position and I feel like he’d only make fun of you for it and like a joking you’re friendly way and if it was something you didn’t insecure about he would drop it, but I don’t know. I just feel like it’s kind of funny to see you so relaxed and such a strange position but if it, makes you happy then it makes him happy. I think he would be a bit disturbed the first time he tries to see you eat something that isn’t food and would make you force it out of your mouth and he thinks that if something isn’t healthy, you should not be eating it so if you tried to eat something that was like not good for you he would definitely make you spit it out and he would pry this shit out of your mouth so don’t don’t even try around him OK? Anyway yall are cute!

tav challenge - (new tav) Ren edition!! This can be their introduction of sorts
They're a half-drow artificer (except I can't play them as an artificer because bg3 HATES FUN /lh) and they're being haunted by the ghost of the legendary pirate captain Juniper Stormaven. They're very pragmatic and don't tend to be very outwardly emotional, preferring to let the things they create speak for them.
favorite weapon: As soon as they find Dammon I think they commission a special sword enchanted to extend into a whip or retract back (if you've seen the Dragon Prince I took a lot of inspiration from a character in that).
style of combat: Ren is very tactical and likes to plan things out thoroughly before they get into a fight, though they try to avoid violence in favor of diplomacy.
most prized possession: A crumpled letter they've sewn inside the lining of their clothes. It's the only thing they have from their birth mother.
deepest desire: To run their own store or maybe even have a ship with all the things they enchant and to create/sell automatons that are both practical and beautiful. They want to use their creations to help people.
guilty pleasure: They have a huge sweet tooth
best-kept secret: Ren can't read. They're very smart and they've tried and tried to learn, it's just never worked, reading is nearly impossible for them. It's the reason they flunked out of wizard school - they were actually supposed to attend at the same time Gale was, but the academy refused to accommodate them (with magic items that could read papers out loud to them, etc), and so they failed all their classes and had to leave. Juniper and their parents are the only ones that know - they've been able to hide it from the companions because Juniper just reads things out loud over their shoulder.
greatest strength: Their ability to make creative and efficient plans and be objective and unbiased.
fatal flaw: They have a hard time communicating what they want and often bottle things up until they explode.
favorite smell: The ocean, I think they find it comforting after being at sea for so long.
favorite spell or cantrip: I'm not actually sure what kinds of spells artificers have but Magic Missile is always a good one.
pet peeve: People who judge other people's eating habits especially but also those who just generally are up in everyone's business. They definitely value privacy.
bad habit: Any piece of machinery they find ends up dissected, and it's really a gamble as to whether it gets put back together again.
hidden talent: They're very good at drawing people, likenesses and whatnot.
leisure activity: They like to tinker with things and build little automatons in their spare time.
favorite drink: Herbal tea, chamomile or peppermint especially
comfort food: Honey buns :)
favorite person: Their adoptive father, he's the one that taught them how to build and animate things. He's always been very supportive of them. Ren's favorite companion is Gale.
favored display of affection (platonic and/or romantic): Making and buying things for people, especially if it'll improve their life somehow.
fondest childhood memory: One day someone sold their dad (who ran a pawnshop) a broken clock. They took it apart together and he built them a little clockwork bug thing, which Ren then accidentally animated - that's how they found out they had a talent for magic. The bug is still wandering around their father's study, as far as they know.
Is there anything else you'd like to share? (feel free to include art or a screenshot of your Tav if available!): They were a low-ranking officer on an exploratory vessel after they dropped out of wizard school, which is where they unfortunately wound up haunted by Juniper. They have a lot of fondness for ships. Also Ren is short for Reneeginald for backstory reasons
