How to use Twitter bc it seems like a lot of you genuinely dont know how to use it
Disclaimer, this is just how I got around to Twitter being my favorite social media, this might not work for everyone. Also this kind of only works if you're in fandoms, or at least a creator, because honestly I dont know how one goes about using Twitter without being in a fandom/being a creator.
STEP 1: SEARCH WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY
Use that funky little search feature and look up whatever fandom you want, or something like #photography, #illustration, #dnd, etc.
The "top" category is where you want to fill up your following queue. YOUR TIMELINE IS GOING TO BE SHITTY IF YOU FOLLOW SHITTY PEOPLE. Twitter is what you make it, if you dont like someone's tweets? Unfollow them! Tailor your timeline to your preferences, that's what its for! (Remember Marie Kondo. Do this person's tweets spark joy for you?)
Find some art/content/etc you really like in the "top" category, then visit the OPs page. Dont just follow because you liked one tweet, take the time to actually see what kind of content they post. Heres some things to look for:
-Do they retweet a lot, or are they mostly posting their own content?
-Do they post a lot about the thing you searched for, or was the tweet you saw a one time only thing?
-Do they mostly tweet media, or do they talk in their tweets? What are they talking about?
-Sometimes Twitter profiles will have some kind of about/byf/caard that will tell you about the person. Do they sound like someone you want to follow?
Personally when I'm considering if I want to follow a person, I prefer that they retweet from other people, because that means more content for my timeline, and more good content creators I can discover. I also like if they talk about themselves/things they like/upcoming events because it adds a sense of personality and I can better connect with them. That's just my preferences, maybe you dont like that! Take it into consideration when you're finding people to follow.
STEP 2: POST YOUR OWN STUFF
You're not likely to get a lot of followers if your page is an empty slate / only retweets. Dont be afraid to post your art/content (yes, even if you think it's bad. Like tumblr, you can find a wonderful community of creators that will give you feedback and support. You just have to find the right people.) Like with most social media, fanart is more likely to get you more attention. Dont let that stop you from posting original stuff! One good, supportive mutual is better that 100 unresponsive followers. If you're not a creator, just talk about stuff you like! New episode of that show you like? Talk about it! Scream about it! Talk about anything and everything you want, because it's your page. Try to keep it organized, though.
STEP 3: (this is when it starts to get fun) GET INVOLVED
Twitter is different than Tumblr in that it's a more personal experience. With Tumblr, you can reply to a post, but op is not guaranteed to see it, and even less likely to respond to it. With Twitter, conversation is more encouraged, and that's good! Most of my closest internet friends are people I've met on Twitter. Heres how to start:
Get back in that funky search engine and search what you like again. This time you might consider the "latest" tab, along with the "top" tab. Find people you're following from step 1 (optional, but it is kinda weird to get messages from someone that's not even following you) and find a recent post you really enjoy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
TALK TO ARTISTS LIKE PEOPLE. (ie, dont put them on a pedestal.) PEOPLE THAT LOVE COMPLIMENTS. Making an artist friend on Twitter is incredibly easy. Just bond over mutual interests (in other words, what fandom is for) and say nice things about each other. Find people who, like you, have one brain cell and horny post about minor characters that were in canon for maybe 10 minutes. If that's what you're into.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's not incredibly different than tumblr, is what I'm saying. The only major differences are your likes are public (I know, it sucks, whatever), you can't rant in the tags you have to rant in posts like a barbarian, and it encourages communication. Anyways I don't know how to end this post have fun bye
