if i may. inej and nina making their way through the world as girls who are treated as subhuman. jesper and matthias being raised "angry and afraid" of Grisha power. nina and kaz keeping their promises to get allies out of the bad situations they put them in. matthias and wylan being brainwashed by their father figures. jesper and inej having family waiting for them somewhere. wylan and kaz seeing relationships as transactional because of their culture and experiences. inej and nina being kidnapped from their home country. kaz and matthias being driven by cause. jesper and nina learning to hide behind false confidence. wylan and inej spending their teenage years locked away. they all started out the series with their own motivations, revenge or freedom or plain survival, but by the end their priority becomes the safety of all the others. No one has looked out for them like this before, so they learn to just do it for each other.

inej and kaz having issues with touch due to trauma. kaz and wylan drowning and being reborn in the ketterdam harbor. wylan and jesper feeling like they have to hide a part of themselves due to their fathers. jesper and nina being grisha with addictions. nina and matthias being raised as a weapon rather than a human. matthias and inej being deeply religious. inej and wylan making themselves smaller because of the abuse they suffered. wylan and matthias being forced into a life of crime. matthias and kaz losing their parents and siblings. kaz and jesper being thrown into the barrel because of reckless behavior involving money. all of these characters being so different yet so similar and forever interconnected with each other because they know that no one else will understand
