Thankful for being brought a new drink by the bartender, Erica realises she might have read the scenario wrong (and maybe she'd been just a little too hopeful). Still, she offers a small, if not awkward smile.
"Sorry if you feel objectified," She says plainly to the other woman, laughing under her breath, mainly at herself. "I... think I read you wrong. I'm Erica. Can I... buy you a beer?"

guys I hate to say it but Zara’s story (four weddings a funeral) finds Keeley’s (Ted lasso) dead.
#it’s not even really Keeley’s fault or Juno temple’s#but by the end they just strip her of everything good except her friendship with Rebecca and they just don’t center that#and she becomes the saddest little girlboss you’ve ever seen. Zara’s story is so good and so real and she is such a funny sweet icon#just rewatched four weddings and I love her more than ever#there’s such steadiness to her underneath the exterior#anyway I never finished the show so maybe TL course corrects but …….

I genuinely want to rewrite The Penumbra Podcast (the Juno Steel story only) I am absolutely obsessed with the concept and characters of the Juno story but have some problems with the writing (and a LOT of problems with season 4!) Would anyone else still in the penumbra fandom be interested in helping or just following me to give your input as I post? The plan is to rewatch the series first, give my input here as I go, then start putting things together when I finish the podcast.

tagged by @curiosity-killed and since I'm busily procrastinating on work this morning
Last Song: "Dynasties and Dystopia" by Denzel Curry et. al. from the Arcane soundtrack, apparently, though I had to go check because it's been a while
Currently Watching: rewatching Kinnporsche, The X-Files, and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, as well as campaign three of Critical Role (very slowly). Do I have a bunch of new shows to watch and/or partially finished shows to finish? Yes. And yet here I am rewatching three different things I've already seen instead.
Currently Reading: Revolting Prostitutes: The Fight for Sex Workers' Rights by Juno Mac and Molly Smith, which is excellent and I highly recommend.
Current Obsession: well I did just finish my Wheel of Time reread so there's a lot of that bouncing around in my brain at the moment, but at core it's still the vegaspete and yi city show most of the time.
though I haven't had a lot of brainspace for fandom obsession while I'm busy obsessing about everything else happening in my real life instead, so really hoping that changes soon because the fandom stuff would be more fun
tagging: @veilchenjaeger, @fatalism-and-villainy, @gloriousmonsters, @portraitoftheoddity, @vegaseatsass and uh how many people am I supposed to tag here again? @sugarbabywenkexing let's go with that many

Get to know you tag game!
I was tagged by @optiwashere Hi!!!
Three ships: I mean... Shadowheart/Nemeia(My Tav)/Karlach is absolutely my big ship right now if we're looking at everything I've written the last month or two. Then Obitine (Obi-Wan/Satine) from Star Wars. They brought back my love of writing after so long of being stuck in writer's block hell. And then I must go with my forever love, Selene/Michael from the Underworld series. I will forever love them. I have written and loved them since 2012, made some of the best friends ever because of them, and then just... even if I was scorned by the fifth movie, they will always hold a special place in my heart.
First ever ship: Faithshipping (Yusei Fudo/Aki Izayoi) from Yugioh 5ds. The things I could say about these two and how deep I was in fandom because of them. I started writing fanfics because of this ship. I was so big on them and once in a while, I find myself rewatching the final scene from the sub between them which was as close of a love confession that we could have gotten.
Last song: The Killing Kind by Marianas Trench
Last movie: The last movie I watched in full was a rewatch of Underworld Evolution so I could get Michael's voice in my head for something I was writing. I did start watching Nightmare Before Christmas too, but I had to leave for work so I didn't finish it.
Currently reading: If we're talking books, I've been trying to read Red, White & Royal Blue for a while but life keeps getting in the way. If we're talking fanfics, I just read the latest update for Nightsongs by @optiwashere and I am absolutely in love with this fic!
Currently watching: I've been rewatching Bones for the first time in a very long time but I've been more on the podcast train, so I'm including that so I've been relistening to The Magnus Archives, keeping up with The Penumbra Podcast (Specifically the Juno Steel stories) and listening to Wolf 359 for the first time. I highly recommend all of these!
Currently consuming: Hot Chocolate with a Peppermint Stick because it was actually cold these past few days and I can get away with it!
Currently craving: More free time to write and more coffee.
Tagging: @the-blue-quetzalcoatl, @isaakandreyevs, @beetlesacquired and whoever else wants to do it (Also no pressure to do it, I just needed to tag people)
#about me#Hi hello this is me#Please do not feel pressured to do this#Also sorry for tagging you twice if you read this#Your fic is also the most recent thing I've read and I'm obsessed

What made you write your fanfics?
if we're talking in general what made me start writing, it would be because i was bored one day and we were in lockdown and i wanted to try and get better grades in english lang by practicing
if you want the specifics of why i started each fic, well, look no further!
growing pains: i found the empires fandom on tumblr (after binging all of scotts empires videos in one day). and was looking around for fics too and found aiahs. i read that. and then i found a piece of fanart with scott and semi-realistic antlers. and then i thought to myself. what if he actually GREW the antlers? and that fic was born!
shifting perspective: i read this fic one morning before school. and i had english lit that day. which is never good because it means im not at all engaged and looking for something else to do other than romeo and juliet. and i was still thinking about that fic. and i thought to myself. what if pixl WAS an old god. but the difference is that the gods are already dead? they were killed by his followers (shifters, because he could shapeshift in that fic) when he decided enough was enough a long time ago? and then i started thinking about how that would affect scott. how that would affect xornoth. and it just developed from there onwards (fun fact: all the notes written for the initial idea of shiftng perspective were written in galactic bc the girl i sit next to in that class doesnt know how to mind her own business)
forged in blood: i saw a post by sleepsaur. from like. last november about them being brothers. and i just went. yknow what, i could get behind that. and started writing for it. the original concept for it changed a LOT since the start of the rewrite. it was meant to be longer than it is going to be. and would have involved more of scott doing shit with his ice powers. but then i sat down and thought about it. because xornoth went through the same thing with their fire, theres no way in hell they would let scott go through the same
tommy smajor au: im counting it because im having too much fun with this! i read a fix where tommy sheltered in mcc (??) and scott adopted him. and i wanted to put my own spin on it
lifetimes apart (from a lifetime together): i watched jimmys last life video where he got exiled. didnt finish it and wrote a fic where he went to scott rather than his exile house. realised he got accepted back and slapped a 'canon divergent' tag on that thing
night watch: which is the vigilante au! thats what its going to be called when i actually get around to writing it, and i want to talk about the development of this one bc its the most interesting to me
so. last year when i first started writing. i wrote for the dsmp fandom solely. there were so many different ideas that i had in my drafts that just never got used. and one of these was a fic that was loosely based off of stranger things (because guess what my first fandom experience was!) and id done a rewatch recently before thinking of that idea. the basic premise was that everyone had powers and there was a little underground group of them.
anyways. a while ago (however long it was) i was clearing out my old stuff. and i stumbled across that and thought to myself. i could use this in a fic, adapted it to be a more modern vigilante au - and there we are! we've arrived at juno's vigilante au!
#asks#can you tell i like talking about this stuff lmao#and yeah. the vigilante au did originally stem from a stranger things au#im sorry to inform you of that fact#daisy mooon

last song: Stray Italian Greyhound by VIenna Teng. I could sing along to this one in my sleep but it never gets old and the fact that it makes me think of all of my grumpy, jaded favorites who get knocked off their feet by an inconvenient and immovable ray of sunshine is an added bonus. “What do I do with a love that won’t sit still?” ♥♥♥
last show/series: I’m currently binging Secrets of the Zoo and am completely obsessed. It’s the perfect comfort/distraction show.
currently watching: I’m about halfway through my Battlestar Galactica rewatch but have pressed pause because of travel (and tbh because I need more cheerful content right now). I’ll return to that once I’m back home. It’s been a great rewatch so far, though! I love this show so damn much. Other than that, I’m enjoying this season of Abbott Elementary, just finished s2 of Kevin Can F*ck Himself, am cautiously optimistic about this season of SVU, and am angrily watching the last few episodes of The Walking Dead because I am a clown that got lured back in with false promises of a Carol Peletier spinoff and am (foolishly) invested in her ending even if I’m not expecting it to be satisfying.
favorite color: Yellow. with bright blues and soft grays not far behind.
sweet, spicy, or savory: I can’t say “all of them”? I love chocolates and pastries, etc., but too much sweetness can really ruin something for me. Savory is delicious and I do love salty snacks so that’s a solid contender, but at the end of the day, I carry hot sauce around in my purse like the Louisianan I am so I’ll have to go with spicy. (Even though I am literally eating a praline right now.)
currently reading: I just finished Honey in the Marrow by Emily Waters (loved it, unsurprisingly). I brought Her Majesty’s Royal Coven by Juno Dawson, Love, Sex, Gender, and Superheroes by Jeffrey A. Brown, and The Poems of Marianne Moore (blaming @ellydash for that) with me for my time in Louisiana. I’m also just a couple of days rom getting my hot little hands on Mistakes Were Made by Meryl Wilsner and cannot WAIT.
what i'm working on: My health has taken a pretty massive downturn this past month so my stress levels are high, brain fog is severe, and ability to focus is limited. In short: not much. That said! I’m officiating my brother’s wedding this weekend so finalizing and polishing that script is at the forefront for me, and that’s really exciting.
currently obsessed with: My mom’s new cats 😻 She adopted three in February and this is my first time meeting them, I am in LOVE!!! My brother and his soon-to-be husband arrive tonight with their two cats (also new to me) so it’s going to be a delightfully full house and I am so excited. I’m also obsessing over the new Star Trek: Picard trailer, that one picture of J. Smith-Cameron with all of the bookshelves, the ancient Limited Too rainbow hairbrush I found in my old bathroom closet, and my incredible new tank top ft. this Hacks design by @hellpopgroove.
Tagging @sheep-in-space, @witchqueenlilith, @lizwontcry, @alittledizzy, @missparker, @sarking, and anyone else interested!

Keepers Of The Chaos (3)
Summary: Tam, Linh, Dex, Keefe, Biana, and Fitz are part of the tiny fandom for Keeper of the Chaos, and Tam and Linh’s podcast convinces some of their other friends to watch it as well. The group finds themselves strangely invested in this show, where students at Tumblr High School who work together to write about an elf named Sophia, cause incomprehensible chaos, and fight their rival Pinterest High School.
Content warnings: Cursing, religion (Jewish Vackers), and Amsterdam (just in case, I know that was stressful for some people).
Word count: 1621
Notes: Most of the episodes are just events stolen from Lynn's roundup, Dex's memes are here
(Read on AO3)
The life of an amateur meme maker on dumbles dot com was a strange one, that was for sure. After finishing xyr favorite show- Ze-Ra: Monaerchs of Powhir- for the third time, Dex had searched for another show to fill the void in xyr soul. Biana recommended this show called "Keepers of the Chaos" and described it to xem. Xe was doubtful at first, but after watching the first episode, xe was hooked.
Xe used to not have many friends at xyr school, so xe did what every neurodivergent queer teen would do- made an account on dumbles dot com. People seemed to like xem- or at least, they liked dizznee-plus's memes and edits of Ze-Ra characters. Even after Dex befriended xyr squish, Fitz, thons sister, Biana, and aer girlfriend, Sophie, xe continued making content on dumbles. Around that time, the Ze-Ra fandom started dying off, and xyr memes started getting fewer note
In a sudden, two am burst of inspiration, Dex made edits of some of xyr favorite characters, like Ref, Akki, and Rose, with their respective pride flags (all of them bi) over them, and captioned it "we must be gay." The post blew up, or at least, what could be considered blowing up in Keeper of the Chaos's tiny fandom, and that was how Dex found xyr calling as an amateur meme/edit maker for KOTC.
History had been repeating itself, with the KOTC fandom starting to die off, until it was revived by an announcement from creator Saturn Nolastname- a season two would be released soon. Frantically, Dex made a meme about season one episode two, with the car salesman meme. Xe edited "chaos keepers" onto the car salesman, "the rarelynoticed" on the car, and "this bad boy can fit so many stripper outfits into it."
That had been... an interesting episode, to say the least. The chaos keepers had been talking about the antagonists of "Sophie and the Dark Duck"- a rebel group called the Rarelynoticed. In the information packet they'd been given, it was confirmed that the Rarelynoticed wore black cloaks and armbands, but no other clothes had been mentioned. Somehow, the chaos keepers came to the conclusion that the Rarelynoticed really wore neon pink leotards and green stripper heels, then drew this idea.
Needless to say, the Tumblr staff did not let them write that into the book. Nor did Lynn, the unofficially chosen leader of the group. Unfortunately for her, this didn't stop the chaos keepers from drawing more of these- or the fandom from making a ton of memes. In addition to the car salesman meme, a post with Drake saying no to "wearing normal fucking villain outfits" and yes to "leotards and stripper heels" gained popularity within the small fandom.
Though nothing could match the absolute shock of seeing the Rarelynoticed stripper outfit for the first time, Dex decided to rewatch the episode anyway- it was funny to see the chaos keepers freak out, and maybe xe could get some good screen captures. The good Saturn Nolastname indulged xem, and xe captured an excellent scene of most of the chaos keepers either laughing or screaming at the Rarelynoticed stripper outfits, with Kimber- one of xyr favorites- sitting on the side, explaining to Juno and Kaitee why Bianca Cracker was bisexual.
Xe went over to dumbles, posted the picture, added an image description, and captioned it "Live photo of me not caring when my friends talk about sex/romance." Xe chuckled to xemself- this really was how it felt to be aroace. Xe tagged it as aromantic and asexual as well, since dumbles added flag colors. Smiling, xe went to go check xyr notifications.
Xyr jaw dropped when xe saw that @lordofthesnuggles- Fitzroy (Dex didn't know thons middle name) Vacker thonself had liked and reblogged all three of xyr memes, even adding compliments in the tags! Xe'd had a bit of a platonic crush on Fitz for... a really long time, but xe always felt too awkward to talk to thon, so it was nice to see that thon appreciated xyr humor.
Feeling energized- and excited to procrastinate on xyr math homework- Dex went to watch the next episode: Dark Duck Is Jewish Now. Being Jewish xemself, this was a really funny episode to xem.
Lynn had been writing a sort of spinoff- it would be called fanfiction, but it was for her own story- about some of the Dark Duck characters celebrating Christmas, and added a throwaway line about Bianca and Finn Cracker celebrating Hanukkah. Then, her fiance, Shai, had taken that idea and run with it, writing a list of ideas about what would happen if the Cracker family was Jewish. Hir friend Sam had jumped on the idea, and soon they had abandoned writing the actual Dark Duck in favor of writing a story about Jewish Dark Duck characters. Some of the other Jewish chaos keepers, like Ref and Cat, helped out.
To be honest, it kind of surprised Dex that no one had made a joke about the Jewish Crackers just being matzah, so xe supposed xe would have to be the first.
Xe posted that observation, quickly getting a like from Fitz- which made xem smile. After a few minutes, Dex posted another meme: Shai and Sam standing in front of a door with a sign that read "elves don't have religion," and them saying "This sign won't stop me, because I can't read!"
It was accurate.
While that episode was great for Jewish representation, and funny, the Banana Noir episode was just plain weird.
It focused less on the Dark Duck than most of the other episodes, and was more about the crazy interactions of the chaos keepers. The episode was named for Banana Noir, who was really Cat Noir, but in a banana suit. Banana Noir was the son of Mellie, who looked like a shark, and Nora, who had platonically married faer. The mothers tried to arrange a marriage between him and Akki, who loved the side characters of the Dark Duck series. However, Akki wanted to marry Amelia. After a lot of shit that basically no one understood, Banana Noir's attempts were thwarted, and Lynn officiated the wedding between Akki and Amelia.
Yeah, Dex had no idea what the fuck was going on either. Xe'd watched an episode of Twins of the Chaos and a youtube video by arsonpog analyzing the Banana Noir chronicles, as it had been dubbed by the chaos keepers, and both expert opinions seemed to agree that Saturn Nolastname and the rest of the writers had probably been on crack when they made that episode.
The next episode made slightly more sense, though it was a low bar. After taking a break from the "official" Dark Duck story, the chaos keepers began collectively writing a Cinderella story about the characters Sophia and Bianca. People weren't allowed to be queer in the official story, but the chaos keepers still wanted to have fun with their obviously gay characters.
Even to the viewers of the show, who only received secondhand information about the Dark Duck characters, knew there was no way any of them, let alone all of them, were allocishet. The exact identities weren't entirely clear- when Dex had made edits of the characters' official art and xyr headcanons for their pride flags, a few people had disagreed- but both the chaos keepers and the fandom knew that despite what Shannon said, Sophia and Bianca were in love, and their Cinderella story should have made it in to the official Dark Duck story.
While excerpts of the Cinderella story were quoted in the show, most of it was left unclear, so Biana had taken it upon aerself to write aer own version of it. Dex was expecting an update later that day, actually, or maybe the next. Ae wasn't always 100% reliable with aer update schedule. Still, Dex looked forward to when it eventually did come.
After the brief calmness from the Sophianca Cinderella episode, season one episode six, Amsterdam, exploded back into chaos. A few of the chaos keepers decided to discuss a fake scene in the book in which crazy shit went down, with the scene supposedly being located in Amsterdam. It had never been written and was never going to be, but everyone discussed it like it was real. Some of the highlights involved all the Dark Duck girls having swords (and the chaos keepers being gay for them), and a speedboat chase scene through the canals. Fitz had a popular theory that the chaos keepers would actually travel to Amsterdam in order to commemorate this crazy part of their lives. Almost as popular as that was a meme Dex made, with a man labeled "chaos keepers discussing amsterdam" and gesturing feverishly to a wall covered in papers and red string.
Of course, episode seven (Dark Duck Disney) was chaotic too. Everything was chaotic with this group, it was in the title. Shannon announced that the winning Dark Duck story would be adapted into a Disney movie. After past experience with terrible book to movie adaptations, the chaos keepers panicked. They panicked so much that it became major news within their school, which until then, had been largely ignoring the chaos keepers. Once the discussion about the movie settled down, they talked a lot about how in awe they were that their Dark Duck shenanigans were trending within the school.
But of course, none of that compared to the last episode of the season...
Dex changed xyr profile picture to include an ominous pair of teal eyes and sighed.

Dive [Duncan Shepherd x Jim Mason]
Summary: Duncan joins Jim and Medina on their yearly visit to Palos Verdes, where things get a little heated.
Warnings: fluff, angst, swearing, mentions of drug use, emotional, a little bit o’ violence
WC: 2.3k
A/N: I rewatched Tribes of Palos Verdes today and I am not okay :’). Had to quote Jim at the end because it fit so well and I almost cried again. Desperately wanted Jim to have a happy ending. Part of my little Duncan x Jim series that can be found on my master list, here. Thank you for reading! -Juno
GIF by kaetastic
Music blasted through the RV that they had rented for their road trip. Duncan bobbed his head lightly to the music, hand tapping away at the steering wheel as he drove. In the passenger seat was Jim, hand placed on Duncan's thigh, thumb rubbing small circles with his thumb. Jim peaked his head around the headrest, checking on his sister and her boyfriend who were peacefully asleep, cuddled up together. They had both decided that they still wanted absolutely nothing to do with their parents, hence the renting of the RV. They didn't even know they were coming. Plus, with their love the beach and surfing, Duncan thought it would be good to just park the RV in one of those special RV Parks near the beach.
"So this is PV, huh?" Duncan asked, turning his head to look at Jim for a few moments as they passed the Welcome to Palos Verdes sign. His eyes quickly scanned his surroundings. They had made it just in time before the sun started setting. He knew how bad Jim would want to go the beach once they got there, so he made it a point to leave LA when they did.
"Mhmmm." Jim said, squeezing his thigh a little bit. "A place full of horrible memories." Jim sighed before removing his hand from Duncan's thigh, running it through his hair before looking out the window at the all too familiar place he once called home. It didn't even feel like home. This was the one time of year that he dreaded the most. Only once every year, before Duncan and Calvin came along, would Jim and Medina visit PV. Something about remembering their "roots" Medina would always bring up, but with all the pain, Jim could care less. There were beaches close to LA they could spend all day surfing at, but nonetheless, it didn't give some sense of warmth to visit the place that started it all.
"Which is why we're going to make a lot of good memories these next 2 weeks." Duncan said trying to bring him back up. He grabbed Jim's hand, giving his knuckles a kiss. "Right?"
"Right..." Jim mumbled.
"I know you hate doing this every year, ocean eyes and I'm glad that you brought me this year to be apart of it. I know you're hurting and this place is always going to hurt you, but I'm here with you now and I'm going to push all those bad memories away, okay?" Jim looked at Duncan for a moment, chewing down on his bottom lip before returning his attention to looking back outside of the window.
"It'll be just like our little meetups when we first met on one of my business trips, hmmm?" Duncan continued, raising his eyebrow. "Look at me, Jim." Duncan waited until he could feel Jim's eyes on him before he continued speaking.
"How so?" Jim questioned, a little agitated. "Don't try to compare this place to what we had before we started dating. Aside from the beach, this place is fucked up."
"Long walks and conversations on the beach." Duncan continued. "Little food dates at your favorite food shacks around here. I know you have some. All the alcohol we can drink. Tons and tons of wild and nasty beach sex. And if we get lucky, those two will be gone a little bit and I'll get to fuck you senseless in the back of this RV. And I know you think I don't understand Jim, about how you feel about this place, but I do. But I want you to show me, Jim."
"What is there to show you, Duncan, that you don't already know. I was addicted to drugs, is that what you're trying to see? Me on drugs again?"
"I knew you would take it there..." Duncan said underneath his breath.
"Say it with your chest, Dunc." Jim said sarcastically before snatching his hand away from Duncan, his jaw clenched.
"Why do you always get so defensive with me, babe? Of course I'm not trying to see you on drugs again, ocean eyes. What the fuck? Why would you even think of something like that? When I say show me, Jim, I meant show me the beach boy that's lived in Palos Verdes. The beach boy that loves to surf with his sister. The carefree beach boy who loves the feeling of the sand between his toes."
"I-,"
"The beach boy with nicest ass in or out of his wetsuit. The beach boy with the beautiful head of hair, a perfect set of lips, and beautiful eyes I get lost in. The beach boy who can't keep his hands off of me. The beach boy I fell in love with. Y'know? The one with the rocking personality?"
"I'm sorry..." Jim croaked out, regretting getting riled up towards his boyfriend.
"None of that. You have nothing to be sorry about. I just want you to relax this trip, okay? Can you do that for me? Or at least try to? Like I said, show me the Jim before the storm that made him even stronger than he was before."
"Yeah." Jim said, sitting a bit and wiping his face, nodding his head. "Yeah, yeah, okay."
"I love you."
"I love you too."
***
When they had arrived at their parking location, everyone wasted no time getting things ready for the beach. Thankfully, Duncan had invested in a cooler with wheels or else the walk would of sucked for whoever was going to have to carry it. They all took the time to change into their wetsuits, taking a group selfie in the process. They had just found a good spot to set all their stuff down, when a familiar voice yelled out for Jim.
"Aye, Jimmy!" the voice yelled again.
"Fuck..." Jim sighed. "They would fucking be here."
"Just keep walking." Medina said, throwing her arm around her brothers shoulder.
"Who is he?" Duncan asked.
"Trouble." Calvin huffed, a previous Bay Boy himself.
"Hey!" the voice yelled again as it got closer, way too fast. And before Jim knew it, he was being shoved forward, out of Medina's grip. "So you leave PV after high school and then show up maybe every once in a while and don't even shoot your old boys a what's up? Shit what are we now? Like 28? 10 whole years man! Don't think we haven't seen you around when you come to visit, Jimmy."
With anger from already being in a bad mood and without thinking, Jim spun around, hand clenched in the tightest fist he could make and punched the breath out of him, the feeling of fresh blood splattering across his knuckles. And when he fell to the floor, Jim took that as opportunity to continue, punches flying.
"Jim!" Duncan yelled, running over to attempt to pull Jim off of the guy. Wrapping both his arms around Jim, he pulled him off in one swift motion, holding onto him as tightly as possible, so that he couldn't break free. Medina joined Duncan's efforts to calm her brother down, whose face was beyond red.
"You just couldn't stay away?" Calvin asked, stepping between the guy and everyone else so that he was at least out of Jim's line of vision.
"Once a Bay Boy, always a Bay Boy." the guy said, standing up and wiping the blood away from his mouth, spitting after. "And he needs to realize that."
"Jim doesn't owe you or the Bay Boys, anything. And neither do I before you say anything else."
"No the problem is you fuckers think you can just leave PV and keep coming back like you still own these waters and then have the nerve to not even check in with us. We let it slide the first couple of times because we really really really like, Jimmy. Until we realized he was avoiding us."
"But you can see why, though. Putting your hands on him and for what?"
"Not my fault Jim's always been a little soft." And behind their conversation, all you could hear was yelling between the 3. Jim finally broke out of Duncan's grip, turning around to shove him in his chest, hard.
"Now you understand, huh?!" Jim yelled. "This is exactly why I hate fucking coming back here! I knew this would fucking happen one year or another!" He looked at Medina too. "Outcast sister and druggie brother return to hell once again, huh?!" Jim shoved Duncan in his chest again, before storming off back towards the RV. Medina called out for him, wanting to follow, but Duncan stopped her. Jim was always so unpredictable when he was angry and if anyone was going to get hurt, it wasn't going to be her. As Jim approached the RV, he looked behind him, seeing that Duncan wasn't trailing too far behind.
"Where are the keys?" he asked as Duncan got closer to him.
"Jim..." Duncan began to say.
"The keys." Jim said again through a clenched jaw, sizing Duncan up. And again with anger and without thinking, he just started grabbing at Duncan, forgetting he was in his wetsuit.
"Stop. Jim. St- STOP." Duncan growled, grabbing Jim by his arms and slamming him up against the side of the RV. Luckily they were out of eyeshot for no one to see.
"Give me the fucking keys." Jim said. "Don't make me hurt you.
"You wanna hurt me, Jim?!" Duncan asked, raising his voice. "Huh?! Will it make you feel better?!"
"I'd probably feel better if I was laid out on the beach d-,"
"Finish that sentence. I dare you." Duncan stepped up to Jim once again, getting in his face. Jim looked up at Duncan who in this moment, towered him. His lip quivered and the tears began falling. "I get it, Jim."
"No. You don't. Stop saying you do because you never will. You've never had to deal with this place, Duncan. Open your fucking eyes for once."
"My eyes have been open, Jim. I haven't lived through this hell, but I've lived through my own hell. You wanna know the difference about my hell and yours? You got the chance to escape, Jim. I spent my entire life, until I met you, in DC Jim. I was lied to, Jim. I've been hurt by people I thought cared about me too, Jim. And I'm not saying that my life was ANY worse than yours, but DON'T tell me that I don't fucking get it."
"And I want to understand you more, Jim, but you keep shutting me the fuck out." Duncan continued, his voice cracking. "You can't keep running away every time, Jim. Whether it be in situations like this or when we argue. I made a promise to you that I would always be here, no matter what and I've been here, Jim."
"I know..." Jim said, shaking his head. "Don't you think I know? But what's the point of continuing to visit when there is nothing out here for us anymore? This place ruined me, Duncan. My random depressive episodes, my anger outbursts, days where I just want to be left alone? I wasn't like that before everything. My teenage years were robbed from me and I'll never get those moments back. It's so easy to run and that's exactly what Medina and I did when we just left and moved to LA. We ran. We told nobody. Our parents couldn't do anything because we waited until we were of age."
Duncan sighed, resting his forehead against Jim's. He could feel the heat radiating off of Jim's body due to anger, but also from the comfort of having Duncan so close to him. Even when they had their arguments back home in LA and Jim would start throwing things or shoving Duncan away, when Duncan did manage to get close, Jim melted. Amongst all his rage, Duncan always made him feel like he was floating.
"Why does it have to be all bad?" Duncan questioned, his eyes closed, nose pressed against Jim's. "Yes, you will never get those moments back, ever. You're right. But what's stopping you from creating those moments now? We're still young right? Like you tell me all the time. We can still do all those things, Jim. You, Medina, me, and Calvin. We can turn this ugly place into something beautiful."
"You always know what to say to me, huh?"
"I'm being serious. The past is always going to be the past and you can't do anything to change it. You can only embrace it and accept that it's apart of you. But what you can do, is not let it drive you back into the ground. You did drugs, Jim. You drank like crazy, Jim. So what? You don't now. And you're glowing. Fucking glowed so bright when I first saw you. I won't let you slip away, Jim. I love you so much."
"Jim..." Medina called out, poking her head around the side of the RV. "Sorry, I know you didn't want me to follow, but I- I-, I don't even know what I'm trying to say. I'm sorry, Jim. I'm sorry I keep dragging you here. I'm sorry. I was just trying-,"
Jim stepped away from Duncan, walking over to his sister to wrap her in a warm hug as she burst into tears, the both of them stumbling to their knees as they continued to hold each other. He wasn't mad at her. He wasn't mad at Duncan either.
"I think about what you said a lot." Jim began. "About sticking with your tribe? We're our own tribe. It's what you said. We don't need anyone else. Right?"
"Right." she croaked, barely above a whisper as she held him tighter.
"And we're going to turn this ugly place into something beautiful." Jim spoke again, turning around to look at Duncan, his own tears falling. "It's what you said. Right?"
"Right." Duncan answered, giving Jim a small smile.

survey by tickticktmr
Do you have a digital camera? What color is it? No, haven’t held one in years. The last digital camera we had was a bit of a magenta shade; it actually belonged to my sister but I borrowed it occasionally.
Did you like the movie Juno? It was ok, though to be honest I’ve mostly forgotten what it’s about. I remember fairly liking it but it’s not the type of movie or genre I’d rewatch.
Name something you think is way over-rated: Big Macs, which I’ve never found tasty.
Do you remember your first friend? Yes, it was a girl named Kaye that I sat with in preschool. She didn’t stay too long in my school, so I haven’t been able to reconnect.
Would you rather live with your mom, dad, a friend or on your own? On my own.
Name something your pet(s) like: Walks.
Do you listen to country music? No, I don’t.
What does the color white remind you of? Peace, serenity, doves, minimalist homes.
What show/movie/song makes you cry every time? Show: From Brooklyn Nine-Nine - either the episode where Rosa Diaz comes out as bisexual or the episode where Terry gets racially profiled.
Movie: La vita e bella.
Song: There isn’t one song that makes me cry 100% of the time, but I suppose Why We Ever by Hayley Williams had this effect on me for a time.
What was your last fight about? I spilled a drop of our dinner’s soup on the dinner table last Thursday and my mom did a sufficient job making me feel incompetent and a dumbass about it, so I was hurt by it and didn’t speak a word for the rest of the evening. Not really a fight, but y’know.
Do you text a lot? I used to not but anymore. I usually get prepaid for LTE now, not to have credits for texts.
Have you ever been screamed at by a teacher? Many times. A number of them didn’t like me for whatever reason...
Do you smile or scowl more? I definitely try to smile more, but idk for sure if that’s what I do more frequently.
Obama or Bush? Idk, maybe Obama? Considering we were colonized by the US at one point and imperialism remains to linger in my country, I generally don’t take kindly to any US president, though.
Batman or Superman? I don’t like comic books.
Are you excited about Blink 182 getting back together? I don’t follow the band so I’m not sure how recent or relevant this news is, but generally speaking I don’t remember ever being stoked for a Blink-182 comeback in particular.
Would you rather be a teacher, a stripper or a hairdresser? I’d go with teacher, and preferably of history, so that I at least can have an hour or so to talk about my passion with other people lol.
The last person you spoke to: how many times have they made you cry? Just once.
What's your favorite kind of gum? The classic bubblegum flavor is fine with me.
Have you ever failed a class in school? Just exams, but never altogether an entire class that required me to retake.
Are you even in school? No, not anymore.
Are you taller then your best friend? No haha, I’m slightly tinier than both of them.
Are you scared of spiders? I’d be scared probably of the larger kinds, but all we get here are the super small spiders so this isn’t an issue for me for the most part.
You can't eat anything ever again except for jello or apples: which one? Probably apples. I cannot stand the texture of jelly/Jell-O, and I guess I can move past my dislike of fruits for this situation since apple is kinda decent anyway.
Have you ever cheated on anyone? No, never man.
If you answered yes to the last question, do they know about it?
Do you paint your nails often? I never do and I never have them done either.
Mascara or lipgloss? Er lipgloss I guess, since I literally don’t care how my eyelashes look.
Who’s the last person you called? I think it had been Denise, a co-worker.
Describe the last person who sent you a text: It was just the delivery guy who brought Ysa’s gift to my place, so I don’t know enough about him to be able to give a sufficient description.
Do you ever watch TV shows or movies on YouTube? No, because for the most part they would be high- or low-pitched, in a tiny screen, sped up, zoomed in, or altogether fake. I also don’t understand why buying movies individually on YouTube is still a thing when Netflix exists for literally cheaper.
Myspace or facebook? Uh Facebook, I guess.
How old were you when you lost your first tooth? I was around 5 or 6, I think.
Have you ever embarassed yourself in front of someone you like? Yeah. But when I started dating them, fucking up in front of them became less embarrassing, of course.
Describe your hair right now: Wet and slightly dripping since I just stepped out of the shower.
Do you like it when it rains? Yes, it’s my favorite weather.
Does anyone miss you right now? I hope my friends do...but I can’t say for sure.
How many funerals have you been to? None. Just wakes.
Where's your favorite place to hang out? Depends on the vibe I’m feeling for the day and the company I’ve got.
Have you ever laughed so hard you peed in your pants? Oh gee, never.
Do you like video games? What's your favorite one? I was raised around video games and so much of my childhood was watching my kuya, dad, and a number of my uncles completing games, so I definitely hold a big appreciation and fondness for them. I never inherited any skills of my own though lmao, so I mostly watch walkthroughs; and the only video games I’ve ever met considerable progress on are Nintendo games marketed for all audiences HAHAHA.
Have you ever worn something your parents wouldn't approve of? Yeah I’ve gotten chided by my mom a handful of times, telling me to cover up with a jacket or something. But her reasoning was always men, so I’m usually able to defend myself and say that that’s not my problem and that’s something fucking men have to deal with themselves. We both know I’m right so she ends up begrudgingly letting me go out with whatever outfit I choose on that given day.
Where are your sibling(s)? They are in their respective bedrooms.
When's the last time a friend got dumped/dumped someone? September. That friend was Gabie and the dumpee was me hahahah, does that count?
Do you celebrate Valentine's day? If I have a significant other, yeah. I like keeping our activities lowkey though because from all my past experiences, malls and restaurants tend to get fully booked on February 14 and it ends up being more of a (very crowded) hassle than a celebration.
Do you celebrate Christmas? Yep.
Does it snow where you live? Never.
Have you ever wanted a pet unicorn? I never did, actually.
Would you like to work to earn money, or simply have money given to you? The latter is obviously the ideal situation, but I recognize the importance of hard work too and constantly working on my skills.
If you could be on any game show, what one would it be? Jeopardy or Family Feud.
Do you know anyone whose famous? Yes, at least locally.
Do you read those gossip magazines? I used to, lol those were my guilty pleasures back then. I still keep up with celebrity updates, but I’ve moved to social media now. I also filter which publications I consume and avoid the tabloid-y ones like Daily Mail.
Summer or winter? I’d go with winter so that I can actually experience it for once.
What do you hear right now? I’m watching an archived Facebook livestream of a senior citizen who had held a virtual piano concert to raise funds to afford his maintenance medicine. The media ate it up like crazy and it’s since gone viral, so I was able to I read about him earlier tonight. He reminds me so much of my late grandpa so I quickly searched for the finished concert on Facebook and now I have it on :)
When's the last time you saw a cousin? Around two weeks ago.
Where were you the last time you left your house? I can’t remember exactly. I think I went to Feliz...OH OK I remember now - I originally went to the nearby SM to handle an LBC delivery for work, and to stay at Starbucks for a few hours also to work. After that I went to their vape stall to buy new pods but they didn’t have any for the vape brand I use, so I went to Feliz as well to try my chances there. They ended up having a few flavors but not what I usually get, so I decided to try a new one - grape lol.
Describe the room you are in: Dark, filled with the lovely sounds of piano music, and the faint smell coming from my scented candle. Overall, light and peaceful.
What shoes did you wear today? I wore my Onitsukas when I walked Cooper this morning.

Weekend Top Ten #470
Top Ten Films to Watch on Star on Disney+
We’ve been watching a lot of Disney+ lately. This is partly due to the fact that our family movie nights have become, almost accidentally, a quest to watch every bit of Star Wars content on the service; so far, we’ve watched the entire Skywalker Saga and are now moving onto the spin-off movies. The younglings have become addicted: Daughter #1 is getting stuck into The Clone Wars, whilst Daughter #2 is demanding we jump straight into The Mandalorian. As for the Princess to my Scoundrel, well, she and I have been thoroughly enjoying WandaVision, which by the time you read this, will have finished. Sob! Nothing to do but gird our loins until the arrival of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier in a couple of weeks! At least this excellent TV programme appears to have whetted my wife’s appetite for watching more of the MCU movies. Maybe soon I can make oblique references to Mary Poppins, y’all, and someone else in the house will actually know what the hell I’m on about.
Well it looks as if there’s going to be even more use out of our Disney+ sub as the months roll inexorably on, what with their new Star channel. This is where they’ve shoehorned all the mucky films they bought from the naughty boys and girls at Fox; sweary adult dramas, sexy bits, and scenes of explicit wrist-slapping abound. So now we have this toybox of grown-up content to savour! What to watch? What not to watch? I’ve already started at the most obvious place by diving into some vintage Arnie with Commando, one of the funniest action movies ever made. It did not disappoint.
So where to next? Re-watching semi-forgotten classics, films I’ve not seen in literally decades? Or checking out things that slipped me by (there’s an entire list to be made of “films I read about in Empire in the ‘90s, got really excited about, but never saw”). Do I watch the crappier Die Hard films, or cheesy action movies (er, like Commando, I guess)? Or dive deep into prestige fair? Or just watch Spy Hard for the Weird Al theme tune, practically the only bit of the film I remember? The options are virtually endless.
So that’s what this week’s list is: ten films I intend to watch on Disney+ very flipping soon. Or, y’know, just play Zelda until Falcon starts.
9 to 5 (1980): there was a lot of talk of Dolly around the New Year, and my wife and I even watched a documentary about her. As a result, I had a scoot around to see if it was possible to buy 9 to 5 as a birthday or Valentine’s gift for my better half; it’s a film neither of us have seen in years if not decades, and we’re both big Grace and Frankie fans too. Alas, it’s a difficult film to get a hold of; there doesn’t appear to be a Blu-ray readily available. Praise be, then, that it’s now on Disney+; a terrific comedy film, with a nice bit of feminist bite. I’m not sure if it’ll feel dated or – post-#MeToo – oddly prescient. But I’m really, really looking forward to watching it again.
Crimson Tide (1995): I do love a good tense thriller, and I seem to remember this as being a particularly great tense thriller. This feels like one of those “they don’t make ‘em like this anymore” candidates; a claustrophobic two-hander with no real action, almost a theatrical chamber piece, but made with huge stars and a big-time director (the late, great Tony Scott). I saw it once, on video, when it came out, so it’ll be great to revisit.
The Color of Money (1986): another minor classic that I’ve not seen for decades, and a film I remember even less well than Crimson Tide. It’s cool to revisit (or discover for the first time!) films by great directors, and this is Scorsese we’re talking about. Cruise as a freshly-minted movie star, still taking risks; Newman as a great elder statesman. I’ve genuinely no idea what it’s like, it’s been so long, but I’d love to see it again. Just wish The Hustler was on D+ too!
Quiz Show (1994): I’d mentioned before that there are loads of films from the ‘90s that I read about as an eager young film fan but never saw; this is one of them. An apparently-great drama about corruption at a hugely popular TV show in ‘50s America, with Ralph Fiennes in a very early Hollywood role. I think I’d enjoy it.
Looking for Richard (1996): another of those ‘90s films…! This fascinated me as a teen, and I’d love to see it: a documentary about Richard III, made by Al Pacino, featuring people talking about Shakespeare (got a lot of time for that) and also scenes of the play performed and filmed. It’s a real curio; also weirdly came out around the same time as McKellen’s Richard III. Maybe something was in the water? We’re due another big Rich in my opinion.
Jennifer’s Body (2009): a follow-up from Juno writer Diablo Cody, a horror centred around high school and female sexuality, this has always seemed like it might be a dark, delicious delight; it wasn’t very well received at the time, but has grown in cult status; as has its star, Megan Fox, who I’d argue has not had the easiest time within Hollywood. Anyway, I really like the look of it, and it’ll be cool to check it out.
Tombstone (1993): I love a good Western, and I seem to remember that this is a very good Western. A story of Wyatt Earp that goes beyond the famous gunfight, my memories of this are very vague; I know that there’s a very good Val Kilmer performance as Doc Holliday, and of course Kurt Russell as Earp himself. I might try out that “watch along” feature and watch this, remotely, with my dad.
Romancing the Stone (1984): I probably haven’t seen this since the eighties so I’ve got no idea if it’s really any good, but I do remember enjoying its Indy-inspired adventurism and – in particular – Danny DeVito’s bad guy. Douglas is always great value as a leading man, although from what I’ve since read this is really Kathleen Turner’s show. It’ll be interesting to see if it holds up, but hopefully it’ll be a good stop-gap until they finally get the Indy films up on the service.
Good Morning, Vietnam (1988): another film that I want to revisit, even if I remember it a little better than others on this list. My memory is that it’s utterly fantastic, a really stark look at the realities of Vietnam during the time of the war, and also a phenomenal, very human performance from Williams. Also I remember it being very funny when he does let off some steam (sorry, bit of Commando creeping in there). And really, it’s Williams I want to see again; that earnest, real, pained but beautiful Williams we get in his very best performances. It’s very likely I’ll cry just watching him on screen. God, I miss him.
Independence Day: Resurgence (2016): I needed some crappy sequel to talk about, and here it is. I can’t overstate how much I loved the first Independence Day in ’96, so the (apparent; I’ve not seen it) terribleness of this sequel hit me like a sledgehammer. It can’t be that bad, can it? Is it not at least so-bad-it’s-good? I mean, the trailer made it look atrocious, and it’s killed off Will Smith – the best character! – off-screen, so odds are not good that it’s a hidden gem. But I’ve got to know.
This was actually a pretty tough list, and I had to knock off some films that I’d love to rewatch (Conan the Barbarian, The War of the Roses), as well as stuff like Idiocracy and Office Space that I’ve never seen. Also Kingsman: The Secret Service, which is a fairly recent release that slipped me by, and I’m not sure why I’ve never gotten round to seeing; I blame the kids! Also, there was going to be some xenomorph or xeno-monkey action on here, but frustratingly all the Alien (and Predator!) movies are missing, and the recent Planet of the Apes trilogy – which I’ve also never seen! – is only served by its middle instalment. Yeah, I can watch the seminal ‘60s original again (and I may!) or the indecipherable and strange Tim Burton version, but what about, y’know, the trilogy that everyone raves about? I assume this is due to pre-existing deals keeping the films elsewhere (elusive…), but the sagas of Alien, Predator, and the complete Die Hard package are – I believe – being kept until most profitable (mark my works: Die Hard at Christmas). Anyway, it’s a bit frustrating, that, as I’ve never seen Covenant or The Predator, and I’d love to watch the whole lot from the start anyway.
I guess I can console myself by also watching the one Die Hard film I’ve never seen, namely the critically-acclaimed A Good Day to Die Hard. I mean, I’m assuming it’s critically acclaimed. I guess I’ll find out.

rita’s super effective and totally always planned stream dates
written for @jupeterweek‘s day two prompt: season 1
read here on ao3
Juno slouches out of his office and into the reception area, yanking on his coat (one of the arms is inside out and he’s struggling, but he refuses to take it off and fix the arm). “I’m heading out early tonight, Rita,” he says. Rita looks dubiously at the clock on her monitor, it’s already after nine, but Juno is known to stay until after midnight. However, this evening there’s a slightly sticky stool in the absolute seediest, cheapest bar he can find outside of Old Town with his name on it. If he’s lucky, he can get a nice brawl in before last order.
Anything to avoid going home to think about things. Things like Annie Wire, or Peter Nureyev, or any of the other shit currently plaguing his soupy nighttime thoughts.
It must be written all over his face, because Rita gives him a wide grin and springs out of her chair, fetching her own coat. “Great! Because I think it’s time for one of our Regularly Scheduled Stream Nights With Rita!” she crows, linking her arm forcefully though his.
“You know, in order for something to be regularly scheduled, you have to schedule it, right?” Juno grouches.
“Just because you don’t ever know about it beforehand doesn’t mean it isn’t regularly scheduled, Mistah Steel,” Rita replies happily, dragging Juno out of the door and scarcely affording him the time to lock up properly before she leads him to her car.
“Look, Rita, I really just want to be alone tonight. I don’t feel like watching streams,” he says uneasily.
“You wanna be alone every night, Mistah Steel, I’ve learned to not let it stop me,” Rita says cheerfully, but then turns to him with a frown, “You’ve been kinda down lately. More down than usual, even. And you’re usually pretty far down, so that’s saying something. I’m not saying I’m worried, because I know you don’t like that, but it would make me feel better to spend some time with you outside of the office. And anyway, I’ve been itching for a rewatch of Moons Over Neptune Seven!”
Juno wants to argue some more, but instead just finds himself nodding wordlessly, a lump suddenly lodged in his throat. Probably an allergic reaction to genuine affection, he suspects, climbing into the passenger seat of Rita’s car.
She drives like a geriatric adrenaline junky, as usual, and nearly hits a sewer rabbit that must have gotten lost, but they make it to her apartment without any significant injuries. Rita talks the entire way, and Juno sinks into it, allowing the words to roll over him without really taking them in. He’d feel worse about not listening if he didn’t suspect this was her intention.
She leads him into her apartment, and as always he first notices how many plants she’s managed to cram into the small space, the entire living room cast in various shades of green and purple and yellow and pink, dainty flowers and massive leaves both leaning over the sides of pots. Juno was surprised by them when he first started visiting her home, Rita didn’t strike him as someone with a green thumb, but it seems that he isn’t the only one that she coaxes into flourishing under her attention.
Rita shoves Juno onto the couch, demanding he remove his coat and shoes, before microwaving popcorn and fetching several bags of her salmon flavored crunchies. She offers him hot cocoa, and he agrees on the principle that she always dumps a healthy helping of whiskey into his. And also marshmallows that melt and leave a nice fluffy coating over the top of the chocolate.
He sits and nurses his drink while she sets up the stream on her large mounted TV and they watch it in relative silence for a little while, interrupted only by Rita’s crunching and exclamations of excitement at certain plot points. After a while, Juno finds himself curled up against Rita, both of them sharing a throw blanket and a second bowl of liberally seasoned popcorn. A great leafy plant grows over the back of the couch, one of the soft leaves tickling the back of Juno’s neck. Once Rita had explained that she couldn’t bear to trim them. “I’m the one that brought them into my house, boss. Why should I demand that they don’t grow to their full beautiful size just because I don’t have as much room for me?” She had said when he inquired about a vine that had outgrown its lattice work and started dominating a wall of her hallway.
Eventually, the movie ends and they sit in silence until Rita gets up and brings a basket from her bathroom, which Juno knows contains at least a hundred different nail polishes. She toes off her house slippers and choose a shiny teal, shaking it before pulling the cap out and beginning on her toes.
Taking the hint, Juno begins to paint his own fingernails a soft blush red. “Wanna talk about what’s been bothering you?” Rita asks, quieter than usual.
Juno huffs. “Not really.” But then, he finds himself continuing, a little stilted, “You remember that Dark Matters guy? Rex Glass?”
Rita looks up at him with wide, excited eyes, but then quickly turns back to her toes. “Uhhh huhhh,” she says, probably trying to sound nonchalant, but it doesn’t work.
Juno groans. “He, uh. Well, that case went a little wild, you know?”
“You mean how he turned out to be a thief in disguise, escaping deep into the night with the very mask you were sent to investigate?” Rita asks. Juno looks at her sharply. “It was all over the news, Mistah Steel.”
“Ah. Well, then, yes. That,” Juno says uncomfortably.
“You can’t beat yourself up over that, boss. His disguise was very good, you couldn’t have known who he really was,” Rita says, patting his arm consolingly.
“No, I know. That’s not… that isn’t really it. He, well. We. Might have made out a little, before that,” Juno admits stiffly.
Rita squeals, nearly dropping her nail polish, but then regains some amount of composure. She has to stop painting while she giggles, but Juno manages to continue. “I feel really weird about it, Rita.”
“Because he was a thief who stole a mask from you? Possibly kissing you because all he wanted was to distract you and escape?” Rita asks, sounding a bit too excited for Juno’s taste.
“Actually, no,” Juno says drily. “I don’t think that’s all he wanted. In fact, I’m fairly certain it wasn’t. And that’s why I feel weird. A thief kisses me and makes off with a mask, but he might have wanted to kiss me for more personal reasons than that! That’s something to feel really weird about, right?”
“Do you want him to have wanted to kiss you for personal reasons?” Rita waggles her eyebrows, and Juno snorts.
“...Kind of. Yeah. I mean, at the time, definitely. And that feeling didn’t go away when I knew the truth. Even once he ran, really,” Juno sighs. “I have the absolute worst taste in men. And women. And others.”
Rita nods sagely. “You really do, Mistah Steel. But, to be fair, he was very handsome.”
Juno sighs, blushes, and then scowls. “Don’t remind me,” he says darkly.
But Rita is on a roll now, having finished the first coat of her nail polish. “Were his lips soft? Did he sweep you off your feet? Oh, before he left, did he leave you priceless jewels for you to remember him by, which you can never wear for fear of being caught with stolen goods, but also cannot bear to dispose of? Do you think he’ll come back? Mistah Steel, I promise, if you want to start a secret love affair with a thief I won’t tell nobody, not even Franny!”
Juno looks at her dully, but only says, “Thanks, Rita. I’ll keep that in mind.”
