trying to research historical vietnamese clothing lead me down a rabbit hole i wasn't prepared for
#by which i mean i see a lot of people claiming that the vietnamese and the koreans 'stole' chinese hanfu#a few of those people had chinese flags in their usernames or bios but all the comments im talking about are in english#for clarity's sake#they're like posting pictures of old vietnamese and korean art along with chinese art and pointing out the similarities in the clothes#while saying shit like 'the thieving viets stole chinese culture!!'#admittedly im not an expert on east and south east asian history#and i know there's bad blood between them#but i *do* know that china occupied vietnam and korea at different points in their histories#and in vietnam's case it happened in the han dynasty which was like 200 BC to 250 CE#(but not throughout that entire era)#and in both countries china had such a strong influence in the politics and culture#like vietnam used chinese hanzi for writing since the han dynasty and in korea#the chinese language has influenced the korean language since like 100 bce#i mean most korean surnames are classified as sino-korean in origin#i just don't think you can accuse nations of stealing a culture that's been a huge influence on theirs for thousands of years#mickey.txt

The double standard is so obvious to anyone who's been following the war in Ukraine that it's simply infuriating. Everything that Israel is being accused of doing, rightly or wrongly, has been done by Russia. It had been happening—on a full scale!—for almost 2 years before October 7. The discourse surrounding the two wars is so incomprehensibly different my jaw is still on the floor.
- The insistence even by foreign-affairs experts that what Russia is doing is a regular old war and not a genocidally-motivated colonialist, imperialist conquest. As opposed to what Israel is doing, obviously, even though Israel was attacked first, Russia wasn't. Also, have you seen the two countries on the map?
- The denial or understatement of insane war crimes, even ones as well documented as what happened in Bucha or the stealing of Ukrainian children. Rape, torture, purposeful striking of aid workers. Imprisoning and killing of journalists. Actual, well-documented conspiracies to influence other countries' politics. All of these things Russia is doing right now but I can only see people screaming about Israel, often without nearly as much evidence as there is for Russia right there.
- The insistence that Israel is the most racist country on earth when, again, Russia is right there. Do you know what's happening to brown people in Russia right now? Have you heard how Russia is literally tricking foreigners into signing up for the military en masse? Do you know how big of a neo-nazi problem Russia has? Do you know how much land Russia has stolen, how many cultures it has decimated? Just look at the fucking map.
- The narrative that Russia is not islamophobic. LOL. Google Chechnya why don't you. The idea that ISIS would never attack Russia because it's pro-Palestine?! What is this Pravda-level propaganda shit?
- I and many Russian nationals I know have never been made to feel responsible for what Putin is doing by random westerners. We've been treated with sympathy and understanding—but also often with doubt as to whether Russia was really as bad as the western media was making it out to be. Surely some of it is just propaganda and exaggeration? Oh man, it's a shame that we can no longer work together with Russian scientists. But a Russian national who's also an Israeli national? Oh boy, guess how she's been treated. It's fucking insane. It's completely batshit insane.
As a non-Jew, there's simply no other explanation I can find for this than blatant, unrepentant antisemitism. I can't stop thinking about it because I thought you guys (westerners) were better. Not inherently better, no, of course not, but just a bit ahead of us (post-soviets) on social justice issues. I was so, so wrong. You have lost the plot so completely.
I'm not Jewish. I was raised a very boring type of protestant, and now I don't really connect to any religion.
I have observed, and been told, and believe, that it is not safe, is scary and dangerous for Jewish people to say out loud such 'controversial' things as Israel is a country that exists and we need to work within that basic reality if we actually hope to make any change or progress.
So I will say it. And more people who have a basic grasp on reality should say it too so it isn't only Jewish people making this very obvious statement.

In relation to the #StopAsianHate tag, it seems fitting to add this contribution since China has been doing a lot of horribly questionable things(to put it mildly), and this has led to a rise in anti-asian rhetoric, with extras on the anti-chinese rhetoric.
It has affected overseas Chinese-descendants and the Chinese diaspora around the world badly, since they had no hand in what China did, nor do they share the same sentiments of China, yet they still get harassed and targeted. Even to the point of cop agents admit to accusing a Canadian professor of Chinese descent of being a spy, Hongkongnese coworkers mistreating overseas Chinese not from China, and a British-born Asian man getting deported without question.
So in lieu of letting this storm rage over even more, the better option appears to be to address everyone's concerns and assumptions about people of Chinese descent who are citizens since birth in other countries and have never set foot in china before.
The main point is: NOT ALL CHINESE AROUND THE WORLD ARE WUMAO COMMUNISTS, NOT ALL CHINESE DESCENDANTS SHARE THE SAME SENTIMENTS AS CHINA OR DOING THINGS FOR CHINA. Got it?
Now, to move on to the other part of attacks on Chinese culture and shaming people just for being Chinese.
1.It is okay to be Chinese-born; there is nothing wrong that you happen to be a Chinese person. You deserve dignity, pursuit of happiness, liberty and respect, just like any other race of person, black, white, Jew, etc out there. You are a person too and don't let anyone treat you otherwise.
2.Chinese people are not "spawn of the bad" or "corrupted subhuman" or "tainted genome"; they are not inherently rotten just by being of Chinese descrnt. There is no proof of that, when you pick apart gene sequences from a Chinese descendant in the clinic, it's still very similar to any other person's dna. Just like every nationality, there's kind people and there's assholes. And just like most other countries, who also had monarchy inbreeding, illness, and radiation(did you know of the Radium Girls in the 1920s, or the very unsafe nuclear testing in the 50s to 90s? They even used to put Radium in wristwatches for citizens to glow in the dark so casually.), the Chinese are no different. Just like to bring up the good parts of others' history rather than focus on the bad so much like china.
3.Chinese history, philosophy and culture does not have all bad parts. Please read and analyze everything, good and bad parts, if you want to make a proper judgement. It is very shocking to hear everyone at this point, so comfortable with joking: "let's nuke the Chinese" or "hope we bomb china badly if there's a war" or "the British and Japanese were good to wipe out the Chinese first" so casually! It is not a fair sentiment nor anti-racist one. If it's wrong to say: "the native Americans should have gotten rid of the arriving pilgrims because they were gonna genocide them anyways so might as well" or "black people should be allowed to hurt white people now for all they've done" then statements of that nature against Chinese is also wrong.
And just like other nations who came before and around the same time, these other nations also had bad parts of their culture. No one seems to highlight how colonizers used to practice Safari Game Hunting in Africa for centuries which killed a lot of animals leaving endangered species, no one talks about the quack and irrational remedies doctors in medieval Ages used to do, how they used to mix arsenic in paint on toys in Victorian era, European wars against indigenous peoples, as much as they keep on bringing up Chinese history's weak points and irrationally using it as a weapon to hold against Chinese people irrelevant to the cause of their past generations for years. It is unfair to whitewash your history while scorning the Chinese people's past.
Some Chinese clothing is nice. Some Chinese food is delicious. Some Chinese architecture can be very beautiful. Some Chinese inventions are useful. Those are the good points of Chinese culture. Not everything is tainted.
4.Not all Chinese are ugly. Or yellow skinned. Or receded jawed. Some have hooded eyes, some have high cheekbones, bigger mouths, wonky noses naturally too. Please look at every Chinese person without plastic surgery and analyze the whole populations faces, before you pass a half-assed judgement of how "ugly" they are in general! Seriously, if not how can you make a proper judgement?
5.As for other Asians who are non-Chinese, please stop trying to compare your cultures against theirs, treat it like a contest and say which one is the 'better Asian' to the people of the Occident(white). It is not cool nor necessary. Just do your thing go brighten your own little corner and you'll be great. Not every wumao is stealing your culture all the time sometimes cultures and trads just overlap or happen to be similar or shared through separation and migration reasons. Yes, you are a different non-chinese Asian and unique, there's no need to make noise or insult Chinese people just to prove your point too.
6.Overseas Chinese had ancestors who suffered too hence their migration and diaspora. Read about the Nanking Massacre, their Opium Addiction, 731 labs, Mao's rule, and other conditions. A lot didn't migrate for fun and games.
This is not dedicated to defending China's misdeeds or the Wumao, this is dedicated to the OVERSEAS people of Chinese descent, the Southeast Asian Chinese, the Chinese diaspora in the west, and anyone who didn't ask to be born with Chinese genes or ancestry but got it anyway: it's not your fault. Don't let yourself be shamed for being born this way, even when it's 'cool' to make fun of Chinese, and find a little pride in yourself. Take care and look out for yourself. There may be 1.4 billion mainland Chinese(even with the birth control policies), but there are many more overseas Chinese who need to be understood as "overseas people of Chinese descent" and respected as such.
For those who are non-chinese reading this, please think carefully anytime you want to post something, is it attacking only the current leaders in china or also targeting Chinese people or overseas Chinese-descent peoples too, before you become the very bigot you hate against a group of people or do a hate crime you might regret. Take a moment, and calm down.
Whoever needs to see this, glad you seen it, even if you need it translated. If you can tag it that would be helpful as well.
this right here 👏👏👏
i hope everyone remembers that it’s not all chinese people who are supporting the unjust things the government is doing. China in general is a very patriotic country and so when given the choice to believe something bad is happening or believing what they have been taught their entire lives (china is great and the best country in the world) they are going side with the statement that has been drilled into their heads since they were children. Chinese people aren’t ignorant they really just don’t know, every news outlet and media platform they use backs up the point that China is the best and they know if they step one toe out of line China is very powerful.
This is the government and the people of power’s doing and it doesn’t matter what the people think. The people either don’t know or don’t understand and it’s fry oho we many people repeatedly blame China as a whole for just a small part of it’s country’s doing.
What’s going on there is absolutely a violation of basic human rights and terrible but please take a moment to remember half the people don’t even know what is happening outside or inside their country because of how controlling everything is there.
Next, because everything there is decided by the government chinese immigrants have NO control over what happens there heck the people in china barely do. So the hate crimes in the west make no. fucking. sense. You’re not going to reach china by attacking u.a or canadian citizens you’re just adding to unnecessary violence. Elderly people, adults and children of north american citizenship are assaulted, harassed and bullied for somethings they cannot control and it’s terrifying how normalized the hate has become.
To all the chinese people seeing this stay strong, there’s no reason to be ashamed of where you or your family is from or how you look.
This anon put it best 🤍🤍

Lets Talk Culture
the 7th of February is the independence day of my country (happy 48th Grenada) and while watching the annual parade and a few people from our sister isle partake in celebration while tourists watched I ruminated on our national dish that I had the day before and thought about us, a small island with a dying culture.
Grenada is a Tri-Island state in the Caribbean with a majority black population. we gained our independence from England in 1974. before that, we were a colony of France and Spain that (we were deadass passed around like a hot potato). our countries struggle has been extremely bloody for a small island that now has a very low crime rate compared to Trinidad an island next to us.
from this point there is no structure I'll just be talking but bear with me it will make sense
first and foremost I am doing history in school for no reason other than I can but also so that I can learn. truthfully we don't spend a lot of time talking specifically about Grenada and we spend it talking about slavery. slavery was a big thing here, most of our plantation houses are still intact and maintained. while the general public doesn't talk about it because of blissful ignorance they actively take part in the culture we built off slavery, mainly J'ouvert.
now J'ouvert yeah please stop crediting things that originated in Grenada to Trinidad. they didn't make J'ouvert or the steel pan or oil down. ( i get mad about this thing especially because we do it better and get accused of stealing and Trini oil-down is ass hot ass respectfully) Trinidad is larger than Grenada so most people see our national dish and J'ouvert from there. and we play mass better I have never played J'ouvert before. I hadda give credit Trinidad's fancy mass is one of if not the best in the Caribbean.
every if not most Caribbean culture has carnival and with no bias, ours is the best with Nevis as a runner up. J'ouvert is part of carnival, which each country has during a different time of the year. but not all carnival has J'ouvert.
now this brings us to the crossroad of language, culture, folklore, and tradition. we shall start with language. J'ouvert is a French word and Grenada has patios but most young people including myself cannot speak outside of the common words. we don't know how to speak it because older people wanted to speak without us knowing what they were saying. now the older generation now complains that no young person they know can speak patios when they were unwilling to teach us in our youth when we wanted to learn. which leads to gypsy which i can speak and understand and so can most young people here. though our dialect, patois, and gypsy are languages that our English teachers correct us on every time it is heard. I cannot express how many times I or someone around me has been told to speak proper English when we speak like that, they correct us using the dialect too.
I should start learning patois from a friend's grandmother who is willing to teach from July. it is a dying part of our culture that is dying due to ignorance.
now we talk about culture and tradition together
in Carriacou, one of the three islands that makes up the tri-island state, culture and tradition is kept alive and breathing. their carnival is in February I think I haven't been to one in years and it is a beautiful display of big drum and maypole dancing, parang and band playing, donkey racing, and other fun activities (if you want i can get videos or my people love there to talk about it). they're just good at keeping it alive they teach the younger generations from small and its just nice yall trust me.
Grenada, the mainland, on the other hand, does not preserve or at least not well the significant bits of culture that each parish has. there is the moco jumbie or the jab jab and other things that I will not try to spell because old french is hard. these things have lost significance or people with the ability to do it because people are not willing to teach so in turn people are not willing to learn. I used to play steel pan and maypole dance but I'm too scared to return because it has been more than six years and my sill has been reduced to ash. they were both enjoyable and culturally significant but they will ultimately die out.
j'ouvert will never and neither will jab jab because Grenadians like to be drunk and have fun and not even a pandemic could stop that. jab jab was originally slaves in molasses and tar scaring slave masters in our slave rebellion. but now it's old oil on skin with animal blood in your mouth (think racist depictions of black people except the lips aren't as big). the history is discussed only when you ask and most people who do it don't even know.
Because Grenada was a major export of spices including nutmeg and cinnamon and cocoa. I get cuss because I don't know how to clean spice aka cinnamon for donkey ass. but you scrape the tree bark, cut it around the circumference beat is the peel the cinnamon off he now good firewood. my uncle cuss me because I don't have the skill nor can watch the tree and say 'yes johnny this one good' its not my fault that my childhood was books and trauma. he said at least can care for cocoa and clean nutmeg.
while Carriacou has maroons for getting things done, granda rarely has one. even if we are tight-knit communities we come together to get things done. a maroon was a settlement of runaway slaves but is when a community comes together to do hard work like building a house while singing playing music and then eating and going home because (if you're not black just say itis) niggaritis does hold them.
off-topic but food here is just yes. I went to maroon when I was a child and fell in love with roll rice and roll cucu (god alone know how to spell that but its made from cornmeal)
anyway, folklore here is trauma and I live 'behind god back' so I seen some shit, I heard some shit and I know people who've been through some shit. but if you want I'll tell you about our mythos ( and why most of their names french I cannot spell anything that isn't standard English because our dialect is one of the hardest in the Caribbean to accumulate too because at first, it's like oh yeah I understand because our accent is like Antigua or Jamaica but when you listen you hearing cacapul (fowl shit in patios)).
we go talk about colorism and other affairs in a different post this one is about how my culture outside of its food and Carriacou is dying and no one will do anything to stop it but like I can talk about the murder assassinations and invasion too because you know we had a civil war so bad America came and buried our prime minister in a mass unmarked grave which has not been found. my late grandfather got shot in that and had the scar to prove it.
do with this hot mess of a post what u will I'm just saying I live on a dot that has been through some shit

because my notes on my fics are CLEARLY a national treasure here is my amazing notes i left on the top of the doc for this fic. i apologize for any incoherence these were for myself, but apparently i am funny so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ WARNINGS FOR notes on racism, specifically against those of asian descent. between the chinese characters (note to myself) and "lasz if you don't..."
blue, purple and red are discord convos, blue is sola, purple is me, red is jercy
i have no idea how to do read more i am so sorry
“He can do the SPLITS he’s got amazing hair he’s so cute w his gf”
“AND he's Good Friends with THE eric bittle”
Do u think chowder would have a hockeyblr
if only to flail about the sharks
YES and bitty tweeted abt him so much!
Bc he’s such a fan of the sharks + he’s got exactly the kind of bubbly personality to run a big blog
lmao he doesn't specify his identity
and so shenanigans ensue
SECRET HOCKEYBLR
and he's the biggest sharks hockeyblr too
chowder would clap BACK at ppl who mess w jack though
there is DRAMA bc he never mentions chris chow
and "oh no sayusharks doesn't like chris chow"
imagine chowder’s had this blog for years, making stellar sharks content and sharks content p much only, and then Jack graduates and his blog abruptly starts posting tons of Falcs content
falcs AND sharks content
Everyone’s like “BETRAYAL callout post for sayusharks, he started liking snow more than chow”
what if he eventually posts a selfie
and people are like "THAT'S SO FAKE"
Drama route: no one believes it’s him, THEN they accuse him of either being a puck bunny or stealing it from a private insta
does sayusharks post about group content that includes chowder tho?? 🤔
yeah!
just not individual chowder content like everything else
actually i think it would be hilarious if there was no selfie he just makes a super long post on tumblr
What if sayusharks only posts chowder content when the face is like,,,, Johnson-sized and unrecognizable except for the fact that it’s the goalie
"this has been in my drafts since i signed my contract and i've finally decided to tell you guys some stuff about myself"
This is player’s tribune essay material
something something joke about bitty appreciating the jack zimmermann ass tumblr
For chowder’s sake it’d be adorable if he posted this long text post after he signs his contract extension? So he rlly does know that he’s gonna get to be in the nhl a while
maybe he originally writes it when he first signs his contract but edits and posts it after the extension
A time capsule of tiny chowder
www.sayusharks.tumblr.com
Don’t feel obligated to write posts chronologically!!!!!! You got this Laszlo!!! :))) ✊
martin jones gets a career-ending injury before contract signings happen in 2018 and the second and third strings fill in for the rest of the season KENT PARSON’S FAULT
as a lover of all goalies (save the really really assholey ones) this pains me
my poor crease sons ;-;
微攻击 from sharkiesharkieshark benne kétezer tizennyolc
infantilization - basically yeah what you have there, "omg my precious goalie child," "look at his baby face," "i wanna adopt him"
asian nerd stereotype - "damn he's looking at that puck like it's his calc homework"
asian ninja/magic sensei stereotype - "chow's like a ninja out there, i bet he has mad kung fu powers" (this is more blatant if they do this kind of thing and patchwork together different asian cultures
lasz if you don’t tag this “one (1) goalie was harmed in the making of this fic” you’re cancelled
mk so the Final Straw of sharkiesharkieshark is their response to the nickname FTG “oh no why is chow FTG he is such a sweet baby boy how is he terrifying at all” BULLSHIT BTW CHOWDER IS TERRIFYING LOOK AT THAT DUDE HE COULD STAB YOU WITH HIS HAIR
jones gets hurt november 24th, game goes into overtime and dell has to take over
option A: chowder is barracuda (ahl sharks) first string for like a month, jonesy gets big time injured so chowder gets pulled up in november, deller prob would still paly a couple of games but maybe he's not doing so great so deller becomes backup and chowder is starter
why actually write when you can talk about the things you learned as research for your writing
chowder signs a 3 year contract, which can only be extended in the last year. the “thank you” speech thing will happen after his signing in the preseason
i'm imagining that first interview with a beat journo like "hey welcome to the team chris, how's the locker room been? have the guys given you any nicknames so far?" trying to give a softball question that won't make chowder stressed and
chowder's like
idon'tknowificantellyouthatonlivetv
"what the fuh is a futguh"
lmaoooo
please i will include that
oh my god
sharks fans be like "oh jeez our new goalie just short circuited during his first star of the game interview. good to know he's carrying on jonesy's tradition of robot goalies"
his NHL-sona is very nice and bubbly in interviews but on ice he is Scary with a capital S. he is a Very Very good goalie. He did not complete his senior year at Samwell, instead got signed to the AHL, and then in November of his 1st year the shark's starter goalie had a career-ending injury (kent fucking parson). the shark's backup goalie became the starter goalie and chowder got called up and became the sharks' backup goalie. however, the former backup goalie wasn't a good starter so they switched him for goalie. this all happened within the first five months of his professional career. you can write from any time between these events and three years into his career, when the fic is set to end
[chowder's gonna mention tumblr?]
yes but like,,, super vaguely
or maybe he jokes about the great tumblr purge
bc that happens that season
i don't know yet
but it'll be like "IS CHRIS CHOW MENTIONING US"
"DOES FUTGUH HAVE A TUMBLR"
really fill out “in this house…” it is only barebones rn
postgame reporter: your teammate XYZ had himself an awesome night tonight, just what did you see from him out there?
chowder: yeah XYZ was amazing, had two great goals, i saw some really good gifs of the spinorama he did to set up that second goal
sharks hockeyblr: ASKLFJASKDJF;KASDKJFASLKDJFKD 🚨🚨🚨
never forget fuhgate
I FINISHED MY FUCKING FIC
hockey tumblr vs chowder
