a trope that i really enjoy in stories is when an incredibly repressed or tightly controlled character’s mask slips for just for a minute because they’re so overwhelmed by something and you realize that they actually feel things very deeply but can’t/won’t show it most of the time

#like kwannon in hellions punching the wall and screaming do i look like i blame other people when her ai daughter was destroyed #or missouri kite in the kingdoms sitting with his back to joe and joe realizes he's crying but he never turns around #or aemond at storm's end being this sinister calm and collected villain until he screams give me your eye #i just! i reallyyyyy like it when characters are tightly controlled but let go of it for a second #pie says stuff #tropes #writing #oooh also percy de rolo being like a stuffy inventory guy for 2 episodes and then going nuts on the briarwoods in the 3rd ep of vox machina #it's a good trope. makes me insane when employed well
