Shanks stayed behind for Buggy when he was sick, but if the roles were reversed, would Buggy do the same for Shanks and miss out on Laughtale? I'm 50/50 but my opinion means nothing because I'm not a One Piece fan (I just love Shanks and Buggy). I'd love to hear your thoughts. You're much more qualified to answer 😂
ooh.
my first thought is: no, he doesn’t stay behind, but he regrets it almost immediately.
justifications below the cut.
see, i’m mostly thinking about this in terms of the character traits that mirror best. shanks is optimistic and passive, his decision to stay put and wait for another opportunity makes perfect sense to me. it makes no sense to buggy, who is impulsively active and a pessimist, assuming the worst and doing things without thinking his actions through, usually with terrible consequences.
but how can going to laugh tale come with consequences?
well. what if buggy feels the same way as shanks—i don’t want to go there without him—but doesn’t realize it until it’s too late?
standing on the last island, watching the rest of the crew walk into the cave that’s supposed to hold this incredible treasure… buggy wants to see it! he wants to take it! but there’s a pit in his stomach that grows bigger and bigger the longer he stands there, alone.
this is wrong.
there’s supposed to be someone else here.
he’s made a terrible mistake.
i don’t think anyone notices that buggy didn’t come in with them until they’re packing it in, done with their laughter (and maybe carving a message for the future at the bottom of that last poneglyph). but rayleigh spots buggy at the entrance to the cave, hunched over in a shuddering, weeping ball, and he realizes what’s happened.
“you didn’t want to see it without shanks after all, huh?”
buggy startles, tries to pretend that he saw it, that he’s fine. he’s just—allergic to something in the air here, yeah! that’s why his eyes are watery!
rayleigh isn’t fooled, but he lets the excuse lie. he gives buggy a reassuring pat on the shoulder and leads him back to the ship. “i’m sure he’ll understand.”
and shanks probably would understand… if buggy ever told him.
because the second key part to this au is that i cannot see buggy ever admitting to this flagrant weakness. he was at the site of the greatest discovery in history! and he turned his back on it because he felt bad that shanks wasn’t there???
he can’t say that!
especially not when they return to that island where shanks has been waiting to find him recovered nicely, pretending that he wasn’t absolutely miserable on his own eager to tell buggy all about the fun little adventures he got up to while he was waiting for them to come back!
he can’t tell shanks the truth now, not when shanks clearly had no problem having a good time without him.
so buggy lies through his teeth, tells shanks that joyboy’s treasure was so cool and it’s too bad shanks was sick and missed it—but hey, they can always go there together someday! buggy already knows the way, so it’ll be easy! plus then buggy will be the only person who’s ever seen it twice, and won’t that be something!
shanks’ eyes are still a little red after whatever captain roger said to make him cry. he manages a small smile. sure, buggy. whatever you say.
and maybe buggy shouldn’t be surprised, the day roger is executed, when shanks tells buggy he doesn’t want to go to laugh tale. after all, shanks was never the kind of pirate who wanted treasure, was he? and what could it matter to buggy? he’s seen it already.
words dry up in buggy’s mouth.
later, the shame will curdle to rage—how dare shanks refuse to go! when buggy turned away from glory and riches for his sake?!—but in the moment all buggy can do is run away.

Could you write Natasha x daughter!reader where Nat has been really busy and stressed at work, so she gets upset and tells r to leave her alone. Then r gets hurt or goes missing, and the last thing Nat said to her daughter was basically to go away. (Apparently I’m in the mood for pain). Happy or sad ending is up to you!
Ps. How are you doing today? Have you drank enough water? Did you sleep well? Hope you’re taking care of yourself ❤️

What I put as a picture to the story is so random hahaha bare with me😭
Piles and piles of work that's what it is. Natasha's table was filled with different missions and works that she has to check and some needed to be passed to Fury. Her eyes were concentrated on the mission she was now typing on her laptop.
When she glanced at her table she hated how the stacks of paper that almost looked like a tower reminded her how she had more things to do and it gives her reason to just stop and throw this all out of the window but she can't.
All her aggressive typings were stopped when she heard a knock at the door. She sighed before letting the person come in.
It was Steve with another pile of papers to be given to her. She gave Steve a 'really? More work' look and Steve sympathetically smiled at her.
"Sorry Natasha" Steve apologizes. "I could help you if you want?" Steve suggested going on onto one of the piles but Natasha stopped him.
"It's okay Steve I can take it from here," Natasha said giving Steve a tight lip smile.
"If you say so"
Steve bid goodbye and Natasha was now again left with another paper to work with.
You were in your room feeling a little bored with the common occurrence of your daily routine so you wanted something new to do today.
You were skimming through the Netflix shows trying to binge something to past time but all you did was skip and skip to another series and ended up not picking anything.
So after a few contemplations on what to do, you ended up wanting to do something with your mom.
You noticed that it was her day off and you haven't hung out with her for some time now. Not that you mind you always were considerate with your mother's work. Always giving her time and letting her rest. You'd always say that you didn't mind if she'd say pass for a time with her daughter cause you know she's busy and you didn't want to be annoying to her.
You haven't decided what you want to do with her cause there were a lot of options. You could go to the mall or the park or cuddle or just watch movies.
You exhaled calming yourself down before knocking into your mother's office.
Your mother on the other side of the door however was already back with her productive pace. Typing at an inhumane pace and finishing a pile for over 3 hours. And someone knocking distracted her from her concentration and sliced through her thin line of patience.
"WHAT NOW STEVE? DO YOU HAVE ANOTHER PILE?!" She shouted in a sarcastic tone.
You flinched at her voice causing your heart to cramp at her tone. Maybe it was a bad time.
"It's me, mama" you mumbled enough for the redhead to hear. Natasha's head snapped in your direction and her eyes soften a little but there was still tiredness and annoyance lingering in her eyes.
"What's up?" Her gaze was back at her laptop typing again with inhumane speed. You watched with amusement at how fast her fingers could type.
"Uhm i thought we could hang out today you know because it's your day off. You shouldn't even have-" you rambled.
"Y/n-" Natasha was annoyed at how your voice filled the room and it made her irritated.
Somehow her voice didn't register in your ear because of how you anxiously rambled to her and continued. "To work today and do that stacks of paperwork. I just thought that maybe you could get some fresh air and hang out with—"
"Y/N!!" Your mom shouted
"you.." You mumbled the last part and looked at your mom with fear in your eyes. She never shouted before. When she's angry she talks in a more soft stern tone not shouting so this took you back a little.
"I have a lot of things to do cant you see?!" She gestured to the piles of paper.
"I see that but-"
"NO! This is where you zip it okay?" She pointed at you. "I have things to finish people to send this fucking works and you're here asking for a " hang out" when you fucking know I'm BUSY!" She rambled sternly spitting all the words with venom.
You cower in her gaze and fiddle with your hands.
"I have a lot of things to deal with Work, stress, and YOU!" She shouted the last part looking at you with despise. "Please don't be a burden," she said the last part in a mumble but you heard it. You heard all of it. Natasha glances back at her work and started typing.
You wiped the tear that manage to escape your eyes. It was your fault you were being a needy teenager, being annoying, and not considerate to your mother. You were being a burden. And she has to deal with it.
"I'm sorry, ma" you mumble before closing her door.
You ran to your room not really wanting to break down and cry in the hallway. Not wanting to bother anyone to see you cry. You would've called Wanda but your mom saying you were a burden gives you the impression that to Wanda you were one too.
So you cried alone in your room curling up to the pillow until your tears dried up.
After crying and sulking in your own sadness you decided that maybe you being here was the problem. So you picked yourself up and fix yourself.
You went to the bathroom and cleaned yourself up. You took a few essential things and put them in your bag. You needed to get out to catch some air and maybe find some new place to leave so your mother wouldn't have to pay for your stuff if you kept living in the compound.
But you didn't have enough money. You're not even half the responsible woman you are. So instead of going to places, you don't know you went to the place you do know. You went hiking up to the hill to past time and think of a place to go.
Your mom on the other hand finished all her work hours ago and it was dinner time when she noticed you weren't anywhere to be seen.
When she was calmed down and well relaxed as she realized what she had said to you. Before she could join the others for dinner she ran to your room to find it empty and she went to hers hoping you'd sleep there but there was no you around.
"Has anyone seen y/n?" She asked the team who was happily eating the dinner table.
They all glanced at each other as if they had the same answer and looked at the redhead then shooked their heads no.
"Friday track y/n" she ordered the wall.
'Ms. Y/n Romanoff is on a cliff Agent Romanoff'
Natasha's heart dropped at what Friday said and all the team frowned at the information.
"Give me y/n coordinates" Steve ordered.
All the team rushed at the quinjet and sped up to your location after hearing the coordinates.
Natasha's legs bounce up and down, she picked her nails thinking of the inevitable.
What did i do?
Did I shout too harshly?
I fucking told her she's a burden!
Stupid Natasha! Stupid!
"There she is" Tony called out. Natasha sat up from her seat and looked at the window of the quinjet. She saw you their body limp and resting on a bag.
Tears pricked her eyes and when the quinjet land she rushed on your way.
She held your body up immediately causing you to stir at the sudden movement of your body
"Mama?" You murmured not fully seeing her at how dark it is. Natasha sighed in relief.
"You're alive" she chanted. "You're alive" she chuckled through tears hugging you tightly.
"Why wouldn't I be alive?" You confusingly asked. "Because Friday told me you were on a cliff and your body was limp when I saw you and I thought you-" she stopped herself from rambling and looked at you inspecting some injuries to find none.
"I'm okay ma" you assured her.
She smiled. "Come on let's go home" she ushered you up but you hesitated.
"It's okay ma. I don't have to live at the compound I'm just gonna find someplace else to live so I wouldn't have to bother you guys" you gave her a reassuring smile that wasn't really reaching your ears.
"What?" Your mom asks with furrowed eyebrows.
"I don't want to be a burden" you murmured. You looked down again fiddling with your hands.
"Oh honey" she took your hands and lifted your chin so you could look at her. "You're not a burden" she softly cooed.
"I was wrong about saying that to you. For shouting at you"
"You are not a burden" she softly pointed at your heart. "You're my daughter and I love you and you could never be a burden to anyone"
All the dam was released you sobbed in her arms and wailed. "I'm sorry ma," you said in between sobs.
Natasha rubbed your back in a comforting manner and kissed the crown of your head. "No need to be sorry. I am the one who should say sorry" she continued brushing your back and helped you up.
This was a lesson to Natasha that even if she was upset or full of work and stress. She never will ever shout at you and give you the time of all her love and attention.
