Elliot: honestly eli popped up in my head one day so there wasn’t a process to creating him, but to flesh him out and get used to him, i wrote him as much as i could and read as much lgbt period lit i can get my hands on. usually that’s how i write charas--i begin them myself and then support them by finding similar or suitable precedents. wilde is an incredibly obvious influence with Love Over All and several other associations like fashion and social criticism. otherwise, he’s got some dark academia and war poetry in him, and i’d compare him most closely to characters like sebastian flyte or réné teleny but listen only in the first ch of the book ok sdjhfjhdf

Nolanel: i made nol rather quickly and he hasn’t changed much from the way i first designed him other than to become more of a solider than a knight. initial inspirations for him came from familiar settings from my past reading, like mining--an old obsession--or medieval fantasy from media like fire emblem and proooob ranger’s apprentice. I also put much of FF’s dragoon trope in him. There’s also some dickens--particularly and obviously in great expectations, but also copperfield. he has tons of war poetry and wwi research in him, esp from the field of war neurosis. his most similar charas are andrei bolkonsky, pip, philip ashley, and hes a real person but ra leighton.
