I don't really watch/consume much BL but do you have any unpopular word of honor opinions 👀
Idk what the popular opinions of WoH fandom is actually other than like, Ah Xu and Lao Wen are in love lol
I guess if I had an unpopular opinion it'd be that the show is actually kinda bad? Lol like, the narrative is all over the place, convoluted, and difficult to follow. Ngl everything about the glazed donut shit was boring as fuck to me.
Like Zhao Jing's secret murder plot was predictable, but also he was so irredeemably hilarious bad and pathetic he didn't make a compelling villain at all. And he's kept so far away from WKX for most of the show that when their plots finally converged it felt anti-climatic tbh and also like, daaaaaamn this mofo been busy for decades huh? His day planner's been PACKED I wish the show made him more thoughtfully evil? If they were gonna go full evil lean into it make him a Bond villain, camp it up the show was already campy as fuck anyway. Instead he's pathetic which made him less intimidating and not in his on purpose moments of being pathetic I liked those, but in general he was so obviously swamy it's like, okay sword society over here is just fucking stupid so fall and then he was working with ghost valley but that was also super convoluted and meh
I don't think it's unpopular that Gu Xiang shouldn't have died, or that whole episode, but I didn't like HOW it happened. I actually wouldn't have minded if all those characters died if it didn't feel so out of nowhere and then almost immediately dropped after? Like all these characters we spent a lot of time with are dead (fuck that one guy LQQ was with he was annoying as shit couldn't stand his ass was happy he died why was he even there) now and it happens and then we're moving back into the glazed armor plot and like what? what????? WKX just lost his little sister and we're just gonna keep on trucking along I guess??? I would like a moment show.
Almost all the men on the show suck and are either boring or annoying. No one in the main cast, and I liked YBY and our dear Scorpion King the up-in-coming Regina George of assassins but all the other men? Boring. Basic. Don't Care. Why are you here? Waste of my time.
Personally I think the narrative of the show outside of the love story of ZZS and WKX and their found family plus SK with his gaggle of wlw crew are the only good parts of the show that work outside of the boss costumes, wigs, and makeup. What saves the show is really the characters cause the the plot?

I can read in Italian, so I'll check - well, I've already checked the novel already, and I was "C'est Germinal!" - and Germinal, Zola's novel about the miners of Northern France, is the one I was never able to finish. The horses in the mines traumatized my mum for her whole life... (easier to focus on the horses than on the people). and talking about sad, I checked Sciascia, and according to wikipedia there's around half of his books thant haven't been translated?
hahaha yeah c'est germinal indeed!! and oh god this is kind of funny to me because my mom a while ago went into a zola frenzy and read ALL of the rougon-macquart books and was like THAT WAS SO GREAT and now that she's finished it she's going through the whole of balzac's work from beginning to end and I know more about the latter than I thought I ever would but like I read germinal only ages ago and YEAAAAAAAH THE HORSES WERE TRAUMATIZING but don't you worry rosso malpelo fills all your needs for sad people working in the mines and does it without a whole novel to make you suffer! ;)
UUUH yeah I forgot to check because I figured they'd translate him but yeah looks like they got the most important stuff but not all of it, then again I have a feeling that sciascia is less marketable to an english audience than the fellow sicilians pirandello and camilleri (tho tbf I have NO IDEA how they even translate camilleri in any language but then again it happened in korean so I suppose where there's a will there's a way xD)

No, it's not a cry for help. I'm just crying.
The Beauty Which Only Beast Knows
I know we originally planned to have the full release by the end of January and today it is... February 5th. Unfortunately, the full team became quite busy in January, but we are all still dedicated to finishing the project! We've made a new timeline and milestones for completing the project (hopefully by April).
[Secret?]
This month, I accepted and spent most of my time working on a commission for a VN project, which is why I listed "Comm" in my update list. I'm not sure what the marketing plans for this project is so I'll write more/support when it comes out.
tbf, if you're in the devtalk server as well, I'm sure you've already seen me talk about it and seen previews of the work.
Stuck in a Yandere Visual Novel... HELP!!
Flat coloring 10 BGs in one week may sound like I've been working throughout the week to responsibly complete this milestone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
No, my dumb ass flat colored 10 BGs in 1 day.
Flat coloring is easy, but even 10 in one day hurts my soul...
I fully blame @usarin for cursing me to complete all 10 in one day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Go check out their stuff if you haven't already. They make really pretty art and awesome visual novels, too.
Why do I only show 9 BGs btw? Oh, I was stupid and forgot I did 5 during the second session. I only realized it after closing everything that there was a fifth window open and it wasn't a reference.
[Fan Project]
I debated adding this here as these two projects are essentially unrelated to VNs, but part of my creative interests and will take a decent portion of my time. (Don't worry, I still intend to prioritize my ongoing VN projects.) I may change my mind on including it here in the future, but I've included its tasks in my VN to-do notebook since I look at that every day.
That's it for this week month! (I'm going to try to update weekly, but at this rate...) I'm going back to sleep 🥱 I woke up earlier than I wanted to today.

Hey Terran! What were some of your favorite books you read this year 👀
Of the books I actually finished all the way through: Fifteen Hundred Miles from the Sun BY Jonny Garza Villa
^This was probably my favorite. It's a story about a long distance realtionships between two guys as they finish up highschool. It's got a good mix of conflict, it's fun, there are painful parts (there is homophobia but also a very good support system), and it's probably one of the fastest books I read through. I know the author has another book (Ander and Santi Were Here) that I definitely want to read as well when it comes out next year! I also enjoyed Parasite BY Darcy Coates. I went in knowing it was horror, and wanting to try that. It was a good dip in the genre I think.
Lastly, that I'm Glad My Mom Died book by Jennette McCurdy, she's a solid writer, and I enjoyed how she told her story. (I also reread Gideon the Ninth and enjoyed that)
OF THE STUFF I STARTED BUT HAVEN'T FINISHED: The Order of Time by Carlo Rovelli Rovelli approaches the concepts of time from both a scientific and philosophical approach, and it made the topic a lot more digestible to me that other science books I've attempted to read in the past. Sabriel by Garth Nix Okay, tbf I'm not super far into it, I've only started this recently, but it was recommeded by one of my best friends as its his favorite series but it gives me nostalgic to the books I read when I was younger, and the imagery is really good so far. I'm so eager to see where this story takes me, I already know I'm going to enjoy the rest of it.
I'm definitely excited to read more with the upcoming year, I have so many books I wanna get through. OH OH! Last thing. I did get to read the last volume of the Life is Strange graphic novel (been getting them by the volume, not the issue, so I had to wait until spring to read it) and... I've said it before but... oh, my heart. I will reread this story to the end of time, it healed my hurt from the game's... stuff. Didn't take it away tbc, but gave me new things to enjoy, new moments to love, and new characters to root for.

David Graeber's "Bullshit Jobs" is a fast-paced non-fiction work that's got so much humor and personality - and it's about, well, bullshit jobs! Super topically relevant.
Thomas Frank's "The People, No: a Brief History of Anti-populism" has the shadiest intro I have ever encountered. I haven't finished it yet but boy, lemme tell ya, I have never seen someone have so much bitchy fun with footnotes before. It's HILARIOUS.
Ben Raines' "The Last Slave Ship: the True Story of How Clotilda was Found, Her Descendants, and an Extraordinary Reckoning" is so, so good and less academic than the first time. Ben is a journalist and you can tell, in the best way. His writing is personal and interesting and he's really just telling a story in the book - a really well researched one.
"Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" by John Berendt reads like a magazine story (again, in the best way). It's tight, it's moody, it sets the stage like a movie. I honest to God thought it was a novel and was shocked to encounter John as himself, narrating the book, instead of the narrator as a character. It's a mostly true story, with John making slight changes to protect people's identities. I was devastated and shocked to find he'd only written two books - this man is clearly a master of his craft! - and then realized he's actually a magazine writer and editor. OH. Yeah, he sure is. You can tell!
These are just come books I've read/been reading lately that have been truly interesting and fun to read. There are also books that are worth reading and aren't fun. I've got Zora Neale Hurston's "Barracoon: The Story of the Last 'Black Cargo'" waiting for me at the library. I doubt that one's fun. It's nonetheless worth reading. (tbf, the Clotilda book by Ben Raines isn't exactly *fun* but it's well written and pretty fast paced.)
You know I do think that a lot of people need to get more comfortable reading nonfiction to understand Things & Ideas. I see a lot of people especially online expecting to be educated on current issues or on political ideologies or what have you ~through fiction~ and while that often works for like. the gist of the idea. you do kind of need to read nonfiction to understand most things past their most simplistic form

Thank you @osirisiii-bc

There's the usual three (one that will likely be novel length, maybe longer), an rp (a bit of Ghost, but mostly a mish-mash of ideas), but only fragments, and another that's just ongoing as I write down old reoccurring dreams. The rest are actually just different parts of a larger idea I'm working on that I may try publishing, but that are not going to be on AO3 (let's just say the collection of WIPs for a longer book will probably not go over well with devout Christians, but might be semi-popular with Ghost fans if I do finish and publish it):
Tangent
A Toast to Hell (Fragments)
Dream Cycle (some of these will migrate to the following WIPs)
***
Neanderthal
Eternity (more of a prompt than a WIP, might be an interlude, like in Brian Stableford's 'The Werewolves of London' trilogy, also I'll likely write another on Pain - but tbf, less serious, as it's not meant to be actual philosophical rumination, but instead purely AU things)
Eli
Confession
Heaven and Hell (long outline that's becoming part of eli)
In the Beginning (first chapter)
Blessed are the Meek (next to last chapter)
Drawings:
A certain moth that visited
Game idea:
An idea for a box game that I've been very slow at working on, but it will involve A LOT of drawing, mostly fruits and veggies (cards), but also a pastoral (box design) and a few other things (more cards)
Music:
Nothing at the moment or in the near future
Everyone that I'd normally tag for this is already above me ( @blackbird5154 @osirisiii-bc ), so tag yourself if you haven't been and join if you'd like.
Ok ok I see there is a WIP tag game so maybe I should actually look at them??
Thank you for tagging me @ghostchems, @da-rulah and @honimello

Here we goooo:
Archduke of Hell, Raphael
Imagine if an incubus was actually good at sex
Eating and then eating
Sold to Silco
What would happen if the Archduke of Baldur's Gate, the Hero of Baldur's Gate and a Priest of Loviatar walked into a bar?
I have no idea who has been tagged yet or not so sorry if you have and I haven't seen it already @missygoesmeow @delulluart @thew0man @her-satanic-wiles @adevilyoudo @blackbird5154 @blacktie-whitenoise
