"Bye!" You call to the other trainers leaving the raid as you adjust your bag a bit on your shoulders and make your way down the hill.

"You've been going into those crystal caves a lot lately," Arven says as he joins you. "Are you sure it's safe?"

"Well...." You reply, your voice gaining pitch as you draw out the word. "Jacq isn't entirely sure..."

"Seriously?!"

"But! I mean, who else could be safer than a champion in there, right?"

Arven sighs, his shoulders slumping. "I guess... It'd still probably be best if you didn't go in at all..."

"Who else would take care of the terastallized pokemon then? Besides, I'm finding some other powerful trainers in there, and I think we're working up a pretty good system of getting the pokemon calmed."

That seems to settle Arven a bit. "Really?"

"Yeah. We all have to be powerful enough to battle them, but with a good team strategy we can get them down quickly."

"Huh..." Arven pauses a bit. "Maybe you should introduce Nemona to them."

You laugh. "Maybe! Not yet though. I love Nemona, you know that, but she's...a lot... I kinda wanna keep at least one of'em to myself for the time being. At least for his own sake. Nemona would definitely scare him off."

Arven bristles, but you don't notice.

"Oh? ...Him? Who is this guy?"

"Haven't learned his name yet. He's really quiet. I don't think he quite knows our language well yet because when he speaks it's with a really thick Unovan accent. He's super strong though. He understands his pokemon really well. It's crazy impressive. He's got a huge dragon."

"Yeah, well, so do you." Arven retorts, sounding defensive. You stop.

"Yeah. I know. I was there. You gave him to me. Technically, I think the PokeBall is still registered to the professor. What's wrong?"

"Nothing, nothing," Arven replies, continuing along the path. "I guess I just don't get what's so great about this guy."

The next time you leave a crystal cave with the black electricity crackling around it, Arven seems to be in a foul mood.

"So did you see that Team Plasma guy again?"

"What are you talking about?"

"Well, you said he was Unovan."

"Are you being for real right now?" You laugh. "Just because he's Unovan doesn't mean he's a member of Team Plasma. C'mon. That's gotta be racist or something."

Arven huffs. "Well, did you ask?"

"What? If he was a member of a terrorist organization? No. I didn't."

"I'm just saying..." Arven grumbles, and you let it go for the time being.

It's a week or so before you run into the Unovan again, so this time you decide to ask him along to your exit to the cave. May as well, right? You more or less communicate with your rotom phone the desire to strategize and talk about pokemon, so he agrees. You offer your hand so as not to lose him in the trek out, and he follows you out into the light.

In hindsight, maybe offering your hand like that was a bad idea? Because waiting there at the entrance was Arven, and when he sees you with the Unovan, you feel like you've done something wrong, somehow.

You don't have a claim on Arven. You're not dating him, and he's not dating you. You're also not dating the Unovan. There's nothing to feel bad about, yet...

"Arven!" You call out to him before he has a chance to turn tail and leave. "I wanted to introduce you to that friend I was telling you about from the raids."

He stops and turns back to the two of you with an uncomfortable look.

You gesture to your new friend. "Arven, this is... Uh... N. Just N, right? I'm saying it right?"

N nods and holds his hand out to Arven. "Good day, I am charmed." He says with an exceedingly thick accent.

Arven narrows his eyes and tentatively shakes N's hand.

"Uh...Yeah. Hi."

"I told N we should do some team strategizing for different teratypes and invited him for lunch."

You feel like you can see the hair on Arven's head stand on edge like an angry maschiff "But I was going to make us lunch." He whispers to you in frustrated tones.

"I know, I know... I'm sorry, I didn't think I'd see him again, since there's no guarantee when these things happen. We can eat somewhere if you like. All three of us? My treat? I don't want to waste your good food."

That seems to calm him somewhat. "...Fine. But you're playing translator, too."

At the restaurant, Arven makes a show of being the one to sit next to you in the booth, which you don't particularly mind. Having him next to you will make it easier for you to swipe food off his plate without him noticing.

After you all get through ordering, you and N start the ordeal of figuring out how you'd best like to approach different teratype/regular type pokemon combinations.

Arven sits there, quietly stewing, unless he has something to offer by way of insight regarding typing related to his own team of Pokemon or Pokemon he faced in the wild that left a strong impression.

N meanwhile proves a little difficult to communicate with, even with translation devices. It's not his fault; just shortcomings of the technology. You all work through it as patiently and politely as you can (Arven a little less so, admittedly), and by the time the food arrives you think you might have a simple outline. Nothing crazy, but it's a start.

Arven's the one to break the subject from the raids. "So, uh. Why are you here? Why'd you leave Unova or wherever?" You give Arven a harsh look for the blunt question, but N only tilts his head and gestures to your phone, so you type in the question to your translator. Once he's had the chance to listen in his native language he thinks for a moment before responding.

"I love pokemon. I want to do good with pokemon and see how...people and pokemon can...live together good?" He phrases it like a question, you imagine, because his grammar isn't perfect, and he's aware of it.

"You couldn't do that at home?" He retorts.

"Arven!"

N holds up a hand, seeming to get the gist.

"Home is......hard. I need to learn for myself. Unova is different...culture."

You nod, understanding.

Arven sees that and speaks up. "Yeah, I've heard about how Unovans treat their Pokemon. Didn't you all literally have a terrorist group nearly wipe out your elite four and gym league or whatever?"

You kick Arven under the table, and N very visibly bristles.

"Team Plasma." He says in the Unovan language (Galarian? They're the same language, right? Fuck, Salvatore definitely taught you better than this), but you both get the gist. N opens his mouth again then closes it and moves to his phone to have it translate for him. "Plasmid Group brainwashed people of innocence. I do not agree with them. They are unfortunate recent history."

"See, Arven?" You scold. "What did I tell you?"

"Whatever..." Arven slumps down in the booth a bit.

From there, the meal continues on a bit awkwardly, but you and N are able to continue working through your plan. He seems surprisingly unbothered by Arven's attitude, so you just kinda let it go.

The meal ends without further incident, so you usher both men from the restaurant and back outside.

The three of you dawdle for a moment, and it's clear that Arven is very uncomfortable. N meanwhile seems to be none the wiser.

You break the silence. "So..."

Before you can continue, N pulls out a PokeBall and releases his dragon whose name you don't entirely remember. He climbs up on its neck while Arven blanches at your side.

N reaches out a hand to you. "You like to ride together?"

You look up at him incredulously, thinking about the possibility of getting on top of such a large pokemon. It's definitely a lot bigger than your usual ride around the region.

"Absolutely not," Arven interjects, getting between the two of you.

"A-Arven?!"

"Just... No. Okay?" He whispers to you without turning his face from N. "Please?"

You look up at N and slide your hand into Arven's. He squeezes it gratefully.

"Sorry, but no thank you. I'll see you at another raid?"

N shrugs, then perks up like he just had an idea, then lifts his phone. "Number change?"

"O-oh! Uh..." You look to Arven. He frowns but makes no other sign to stop you.

"Sure."

N tosses his phone down to you, and you plug your number in quickly and send yourself a text before tossing it back up.

N looks at his phone then back to you and smiles.

"Okay! Until another time!" Then he flies off with a wave that has yours and Arven's hair fluffing in the resulting wind.

Once the dust has settled, Arven breathes out a major sigh of relief.

"What was that?" You both ask at the same time

"What was what?" Again you jinx one another.

"That pokemon?!"

"That behavior?!"

It's late afternoon when I stumble into Slateport, and it takes me much longer than I would like to find a motel with a vacant room. The Pokemon Contest that drew ASH here must be responsible for that.

When I finally find a place, I whip out my trainer ID and announce myself as a former Champion before the clerk can react to my appearance and odor. I've never been checked in so fast in my life.

After a long and thorough soak and shower, I check my email. Sure enough, there's a message from nifti@koyn.lab It reads:

Hi Spiral!

Great news! My team says they have all the battle data they need! Thanks so much for all your hard work!

When you get to Slateport, shoot me an email and I'll tell you where to meet Trizztan, our head artificials researcher. He should have all that data crunched by the time you get there.

I feel light as air. I shoot her back an email right away, and while I wait for her response I text Rosette and tell her I'm in town. She asks whether I can meet her for dinner, and we arrange to meet at a nearby hotpot place. By the time we've finished, Nifti has responded with the location of an office building near the market district, and I'm able to confirm that I can make an 11am meeting.

I stare at the meeting time and place for a long moment. I don't want to dampen my own excitement, but my misgivings about Koynlab and ASH's warning keep knocking around in my skull. After a moment's thought, I forward the information to ASH. He quickly responds that he'll wait for me outside the building.

The ingrained laws of inconvenient politeness tell me I should refuse and force him to insist before I give in, but I surprise myself by simply responding, Thanks.

No matter what the outcome, something tells me I'll want someone to talk to when that meeting ends.

.....

When Rosette sits down across from me, I can tell she's not in the best mood. Her smile is much more tepid than usual, her expressions more muted. I wait until the waiter comes and goes to ask her about it.

"Work got you down?"

She looks at me for a long beat, long enough for me to feel nervous.

"What is it?"

She sighs, settles her purse on the booth next to her, and gives me an uncomfortably serious look. "I met with ASH."

"Oh." I blink. "I thought...I thought you'd just talk to him on the phone, or text him or something. That was nice of you to meet him in person."

Her expression doesn't lighten. She continues to study me from behind her glasses.

"Did something go wrong?" I venture.

She sighs and adjusts her glasses. "No..." Her tone is uncertain, and her gaze shifts off of me and into the middle distance.

I want to push, but I wait for her to collect her thoughts. When she looks back at me, she looks somewhat sad. "Spiral, is there anything you're not telling me?"

"Huh? About ASH, or...?"

She stares at me expectantly, and I wrack my brains, but I can't think of anything relevant I haven't told her. I shake my head. Her eyes flash, and a hint of anger enters her expression.

"Ro, what is it?" I ask. "Was he a jerk to you or something?"

"No," she says roughly. "Well, you know how he is, how he can be." Her eyes harden. "He's just kind of rude, you know?"

"What'd he say that was rude?"

"Just some little remarks about my job, the League. He said..." Her eyes flash at me again. "He said he made you cry."

"Oh," I laugh.

"It's not funny!" I flinch at the pain in her voice. "Why didn't you tell me about that?"

I drop my eyes, sobering. "I was just embarrassed. You know how I hate to cry. And the only reason I did was because he said he forgave me for killing his Pokemon."

"But that was his fault! I've been telling you that for years, and if he's going to be guilting you about--"

"I don't think he was." I hold up my hands. "Ro...I know he comes off kind of dickish, but I honestly think he's been doing a lot of soul searching."

"Not enough to accept responsibility!"

"He does, it's just that--"

"He just thinks you should get half the blame, too."

"Shouldn't I?" I say, my voice taking on a ragged edge.

"No." She leans forward, pointing her finger in my face. "Absolutely not. And you can't let him put that on you."

"I could have called the match after the first casualty. If I hadn't been so proud--"

"He could have forfeited, and he should have."

A silence unspools between us. She sighs, her face softening, and looks at me with desperation in her eyes.

"Spiral, I just don't want you to get hurt."

"I know. I can hand--"

"Listen." She presses her palms together. "Even beyond all that stuff that happened in the past, he's just...chaotic. He thinks he knows better than the League, better than everyone. He chases bizarre theories and bulls through whatever's in the way. He stress-tests things until they break."

"He's changed." My voice is weak.

"I believe you when you say he feels bad about what happened," she says. "But I'm not sure it's enough to keep him from making the same kind of mistakes."

I take a deep breath. This is where I should tell her that ASH will be waiting when I finish with Koynlab tomorrow, but the words stick in my throat. Instead I just say, "He's only helping me with one thing. I'll be careful."

Her mouth quirks in a grim smile. "I hope so."

i've been in a really good mood overall for... possibly most of this past week! i have had Energy For Reading/Watching/Listening To things! i've listened to several more episodes of Mabel, a podcast i've always enjoyed the beginning of and never gotten around to the end of. i think those all technically count as the same good thing.

the other good thing is my cool irl writer friends and i are meeting up tomorrow and we're gonna Talk About Writing Stuff! i'm gonna show them a zine i made and we will discuss the artistic merits of old high school projects. is this technically an Ongoing thing? hm. i guess not. the conversation with cool writer friends is an ongoing thing?

the third good thing is i've been on a real pokemon kick lately. it started with me getting into pokerogue, a roguelike pokemon fangame, and now i'm delightedly trying to assign my favourite characters pokemon teams and learning lots of pokemon facts :3

oh gosh. i dunno. do i get to talk authoritatively about that? i think when i have trouble writing, the way to deal with it could be literally anything. go to sleep. scribble in a notebook. look at other people's art. try a new medium. lie down and simply do not think about anything at all for a while. go for a walk. take a little piece of writing and pick out all the reasons you like it very very specifically. do some kind of craft that uses your hands more than your brain. play the nearest instrument. try things and see if they help? i've had a lot of luck with Looking At Really Cool Art Other People Made and also Listening To Other People Talk About Cool Art, but i don't know how well that works as generalized advice ^^;

oh dear. i really don't think i get to dispense general life advice. i think other people with better examples have already said the whole [do whatever works for you to get the thing done] speech, and that's the closest i have to something i'd feel okay about giving as an answer here.

in my free time lately I have been dabbling in hand made goods, currently it's hair clips made with resin, and I have plans to sew a collar from a scarf i thrifted

but my favorite one has to be one I made with an old broken wired headphones I bought years ago, it's kinda bow-like in shape and I really love it I wear it almost every day lmao.. i'd love to make more with all kinds of recycled wires and such

it's just really relaxing for me to craft something with my own two hands when i'm offline...

I was thinking this morning about 別府のが懐かしいやばいよ.......it's been like almost 6 years and I want more than anything right now to go back i feel so homesick I really really miss being there... my japanese has been so rusty since coming back I haven't had tons of time to keep up but i'm definitely going to try more so i'll be more confident when I return....it'll definitely happen I know it

I'm good! Been playing Pokemon games lately, current one is Legends Arceus. It's really good, and does things differently from the main games. I'm more in the post-game part of it now.

It has been the only thing I want to do lately, which is annoying to the part of me that wants to draw/write, but I'm having fun.

I have also noticed that I haven't updated any of my main fics in a year, but I knew I'd never keep to a schedule on that. And it didn't gelp when I lost my previous plot points for each story, but I've made progress on redoing them, even adding other scenes that I didn't think of before, but also at the cost of forgetting some of the older points in some of them.

Oh! I haven’t played any Pokémon games so.. I’m not quite sure of the gameplay for them but I’m glad you’re having fun!

Just got done having my yearly birthday cry. Didn't know if it was going to happen this year but we got it in late. It was still a pretty good birthday all in all.

I slept really well last night. I missed James this morning but they left me a card. The 3rd one this week I believe. They have all been so sweet and made me feel so loved. I know sometimes James has trouble expressing how they feel so the long written notes have meant the world to me.

I got up a little early. I wanted to enjoy the whole day. I actually wore jeans. At least for most of it. I had texts from Jess and my parents. Steve would message me after noon. Out of the ordinary for him, he usually it the first to text me at midnight. Midday is still good. Kim sent me a voice memo of her singing and that made me feel so loved.

I would have cereal for breakfast and did my knitting. I baked cookies. I laid in my hammock. I was in a good mood.

Until I got a little overheated and then I felt upset but it was fine. I put on a tank top and calmed down.

I baked three dozen cookies. Mostly to give to Stanley at work. I haven't seen Mr Will in a bit. He is going to be retiring soon and I want to make sure I get him some cookies as well. The house smelled very nice.

I did some organizing. I made a bunch of outfits. Pulled out some colorful clothes. I think at the beginning of March I will do a full swap again. But for now this was good progress. I also went through all my bags. I have so many bags. I would get rid of 4. Which is so few but it is so hard to get rid of any for me. I love a bag. I would sort them in leather, tote, backpack, travel (big and small), and camp. I got rid of one from almost all the catagories so that was something. I picked out ones to keep out and put the rest in my storage box. I am pretty good at swapping out every few weeks. But it was nice to be reminded of what I have.

I would play a lot of Pokemon today. I beat the main game and now I'm doing missions and such. But it would take me a lot of time today to make my way through the bosses and such.

James ordered me sushi for a special birthday lunch.

I went to get that and the mail and ran into Kim. It was nice to get a birthday hug and a birthday pat from her dog, Kia. And then it was sushi time.

I got a seaweed salad, an avacado roll, and spring rolls. Those were just to make it to the delivery minimum. But were also very good. I had my lunch and played my game and felt really happy.

I would go lay in my hammock until James got home. I tied it up tighter and it's much easier to get out of now. And when James got home they had a smoothie for me. Love them very much.

They worked on dinner. I played video games. They would join me and cheer me on and they said I am very fun to watch so that felt good. I have a very silly team if you know anything about Pokemon but I stuck with them and made them the best team and I'm very proud of that.

We had our dinner. James got a cheesecake with strawberries for me. Sang and tried to hold the cake and Sweetp and that went as well as expected. And then I had a few little gifts to open. A beautiful solid perfume. A cloisonne knife letter opener. And a eyelash knit cardigan with gummy bear embroidery all over it. It's darling and I'm excited to make an outfit for it.

I would start to get a little sad after that. I don't exactly know why. I would spiral soon after and have a good cry with James in the hammock. We were squish in there and I got very upset. But I feel a little better now. Mostly just tired.

I am clean and wearing a soft sweatshirt and I have my hair ties up in silk scrunchies and I'm 31. I'm happy to be here. I'm privileged to be here. And I'm excited to see what the next year brings.

I used to play Sims but honestly I feel like I never wanted to actually play it, I just wanted to create them and their houses, but living their lives was too tiring and boring. yes right now I'm pretty fixated on acnh, back then I used to play super mario 3D land on my DS, was times. but yes I really enjoy the customizing and designing the island part of acnh, I'd honestly like to play more on my switch but since games are expensive, I haven't really bought any others bc I haven't found one that was worth it yet. I really wish I was more of a pokemon person. I wanna play more pokemon games, I wanna be, THE VERY BE- I have Pokemon, sword I think? bc my friend gave it to me, but haven't played a lot.

I gotta say I was always bad with defining music genres bc, I have no idea. but I guess mainly it's (Indie/alt) pop/rock, rap is really enjoyable actually, don't have a lot of it I listen to but also as someone into poetry. but I'm also one of those people that's like "I listen to it if I like it". basically I really love e-guitars, bass, and violins. I like dramatic emotional music, sad but loud songs, yes. I really love the 80's sound tho, that is kinda how I wish how people perceive me. movie soundtrack is fire too. and actually, since I'm in general just a fan of art with words and good rythm, like musical kinda songs are really nice, and I wish I could sing more like that.

Sans motherfucking Skeleton! (See above! There is evidence that he is aware of the RESETs, there is evidence that he helped Alphys with the Secret Lab & the Amalgamates. Yet, despite probably being able to figure out that Frisk, a little kid, is most likely being forced to experience death over & over again, he… really does nothing… Like, he said it himself, he promised his buddy behind the door to the Ruins that he’d look after Frisk, but he takes it to the literal & does the absolute bare minimum.)

Undyne (She chased a freaking kid all through Waterfall, throwing spears at that kid with the obvious intent to kill. She outright hates humans, admittedly for an understandable reason, but this is still a kid. Literally, the only reason that she gave Frisk a chance was because Papyrus used reverse psychology on her. However, it makes the friendship seem ingenuine. Not only that, but her bigotry is complete in that literally nothing you can do will satisfy her. If you’re a total pacifist, she calls you a wimp. If you’re not, she despises you for your cruelty. This bitch tells Frisk that everyone would be happier if Frisk were dead. Then, she has the freaking GALL to say that Frisk was a danger to monsters & humans alike in a Genocide run!!)

Alphys (Oh boy… My main issue with Alphys is mostly the fact that she only seemed in any way regretful of the things she did to the Amalgamates. Never once does she seem in any way guilty for what she did to the human souls. Think about it this way, she was extracting determination from them. Which is in-game acknowledged to be what allows human souls to continue to persist after death. Yet, she was taking it from them. Like, let’s not even get into the fact that those souls most likely came from kids because that’s a whole other can of worms that I’m just not mentally prepared to open again at the moment. What’s worse is that it’s confirmed in the Flowey fight that human souls retain a degree of sapience even in death. So, it’s disturbingly possible that those souls felt everything done to them… And that’s… horrible…)

Damn near every stinkin’ monster in Undertale! (Like, holy frick! There were literally characters chanting “Kill All Humans!”)

I also have some problems with Toriel because why didn't she go with the other humans & protect them or at least tell them the truth about how to get out & if they persisted, then train them to survive, but… well, I think that if this were brought to her attention, that she’d own up to it, which, for me… that’s the major issue.

I just… have a bunch of issues with Undertale’s underlying messaging & the hypocrisy of the idea that monsters are full of love, compassion, & hope, yet they are freaking blind to the fact that the simple fact that they know that they can draw out & absorb humans’ souls & that absorbing 7 will turn one into a godlike being proves that they, at the very least, can be serial killers, okay?

They portray humans as merciless & cruel, but it completely flies over their heads the fact that if this were actually true, then none of them would be there to say as such! They also say that humans can’t use magic, yet in the same breath, they say that 7 magicians or wizards or mages or whatever, placed a magical barrier around the Underground. So, which is it? Do humans have magic or don’t they?

THE CHARACTER THAT YOU LOVE BUT EVERYONE ELSE DISLIKES

Asgoire Dreemur (Dude was the king of an entire society imprisoned underground for anywhere between a couple of hundred to several thousand years. The Underground is stated to be becoming overcrowded & for all we know, they could also be becoming short on food. There is also the fact that monsters can enter into a coma & die simply by losing all hope. Asgore also lost both his beloved children, one having been killed by humans. Which is what sparked this whole issue. Yet, something of note is that he instantly regretted it & only continued for the sake of keeping his people’s hopes alive. That in no way excuses what happened as a result, but it makes it more understandable. There’s also the fact that he owns up to the wrong he committed. When you first meet him, you can see the regret oozing off of him. This is something that if he knew of any other way to save his people, you know without a single doubt that he would freaking jump on it! Not only that, but if you kill Flowey in a neutral run then go back to before fighting Asgore, he will literally offer up his soul to let Frisk get out of there. Now, admittedly, provided that the other humans were also kids like Frisk, then I absolutely think that he should’ve reversed the fuck outta that course immediately. This in no way means that I think Asgore should get off. In fact, I think he should’ve been tried & put in jail. At the same time, everything about him tells me that he would own up to his crimes & take full responsibility for them, which… if nothing else, I’d admire him for that.)

Frisk (Too many fans blame Frisk entirely for the Genocide run, saying that they're just fucking with the monsters' lives, & don’t really think about what it’d be like in their shoes. At least, from an actual story-telling & character perspective. Just because this kid is able to RESET doesn't mean they didn't feel the pain of death. This kid is literally being slaughtered over & over again. Repeatedly. They are being told by damn near everyone that, by proxy of being human, they are evil & at fault. That they deserve to die. Think about that… That would mess up an adult, let alone a child. You’re literally gatekept from getting the best ending by so much as damaging a monster even once. Let alone accidentally killing a Froggit one damn time! Yet, the only monsters held culpable for this are Asgore & Flowey. Like, anyone reading this, I recommend going to YouTube & listening to “All The Ways I’ve Died” & on Ao3, I’d definitely recommend reading “Somebody, Anybody” & “A Pacifist By Default,” both by StaringBack. Like, when you really put into perspective all the ways that Frisk is killed & the fact that you have to do so much, juuuust right in order to get these monsters to be willing to spare you, it starts to become much more clear why they might’ve decided to go on a Genocide run. There's only so much that one person can take before they snap.)

There tends to be an issue in certain media where fans & sometimes even creators, don’t honestly sit down & legitimately think about how something would actually work. Things like my rants regarding Undertale.

But for another example, the choice to make the Gerudo a female-only race that chooses to live in a sexually segregated society. I see a ton of fans seeming to think that living in a female only society would somehow magically make that society into some sort of feminist paradise. However, I see it very differently.

If anything, I believe that it would actually cause them to become, like, medieval levels of conservative. Like, think about it. These women get a singular male every hundred years, which forces them to go at this not from a “I’m a girlboss, I don’t need no man,” but rather “if I don’t find a man & have as many kids as possible, I could very well be contributing to the extinction of my people” perspective. There is zero chance that they’d be accepting of homosexuality in other Gerudo because the pressure to go out, find a man, & have kids must be absolutely insane! There is also zero chance that they’d be in any way interested in a transman &, in fact, it is far more likely that they would be extremely bigoted towards one. Because being part of a female only society that still reproduces the same way as any other human means that they are forever on the cusp of extinction & no one seems to truly take this fact in! Realistically speaking, each & every Gerudo woman would need to have at the very least 1 kid bare minimum in order to reliably keep the death rate & birth rate at evens. Because, if they don’t then that means that some other Gerudo has to have more in order to pack up the slack! And ideally, they should have 2, if not 3, each in order to account for unfortunate tragedies like being killed by a Lynel or something!

Yet, despite this, these girls are generally taken from their homes & their fathers at 3-5 years old & barred from interacting with males until they are at the very least 18. It’s no damn wonder they need a freaking required class to teach them how to interact with men, these women are ridiculously ill-socialized!

And let's not even approach how Ganondorf or any other Centrnnial King would most likely be affected by this.

Girls are affected very negatively by not having father figures. Boys... most likely even worse.

Both, although there is a definite bias towards the former.

With the latter it greatly depends on the overall quality of the show, as well as the style in which it is presented.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST FANDOM?

As a child I had quite some:

Disney Ducks, Pippi Longstocking, Ronja Rovarsdóttir, Princess Fantaghirò, Queen Millenia, and The Addams Family.

While I never was a gamer myself, I very much loved to watch others play games - especially the classic Sonic games, as well as the Super Mario ones … which you can (somewhat) call a childhood fandom of mine, too.

@mikeilo got me interested in Prince Phobos (W.I.T.C.H.) several years ago, but to say that I was “involved” in the fandom is a bit too much. It was more about this particular character, though.

No, why should I let a community affect my love for a fandom!? It’s not the fandoms’ / characters’ / authors’ fault that some people are just plain disagreeable and obtrusive.

If anything, it has just reinforced my aversion against the things I disliked from the get-go - especially if there is some “activist” fanaticism, connected with aggressive, proselytizing behaviour involved.

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE OTHER PEOPLE IN YOUR CURRENT FANDOM(S)?

Ambivalent.

There are some obnoxious brats, which should be ignored at best. Drama is a waste of time and energy!

Then again, there are also some very nice people out there.

Most of the time I prefer to have just a few contacts, anyway - i.e. like-minded ones I & my preferences & convictions get along with. Those, I do appreciate greatly, though.

I've always been fascinated by the concept of redemption.

In connexion with my favourite villains, it is a theme I am quite obsessed with and can't do without, as I find evil as such not appealing at all. In fact, what makes these characters attractive to me is their power & potential, and not their misuse of it. The process of redemption finally brings said potential out and puts it to good use, which I find deeply satisfying.

Plus there is also the element of defying the forces of darkness, who always twist and pervert - and this is the ultimate solution to it, making everyone and everything whole again.

Imho, redemption arcs are a great "f**k you" to the devil & I love it all the more for that!

Darth Vader doesn’t die and gets the chance for an actual redemption arc, atoning for his ill deeds as the Dark Lord - as an act of purification and reclaiming his original, true name - as well as helping the Alliance free the galaxy. (given how powerful he is, his contribution would be immense)

more importantly - he finally has the opportunity to make up with and actually get to know his children - especially Leia. That has always bugged me a great deal. Ani didn’t even get the chance to talk to his daughter. There is just too much focus on the father-son dynamic anyway. Nothing against Luke – love him, but it’s just not right that Leia was being left out of it almost entirely. Plus she is the one that resembles her father more (personality-wise) after all. I’d so have loved to see a confrontation of these two. (not to mention some cute father-daughter moments, eventually)
