we’re also never getting anything mulan out of twst even tho it’s a classic because disney i think now realizes their portrayal of the huns was racist 💀 and bringing that back into the spotlight would be bad for business

#thoughts #really crazy how a disney movie focuses on the actual historical conflict between chinese hans and the huns like that’s crazy #i cannot think of any of their other movies that focus on real world events like that #and esp not anything as idk. charged as a settler conflict between 2 distinct ethnic-cultural groups whose descendants still live today #even if it was thousands of years ago like damn!!!#i have such mixed feelings on mulan and anastasia (not disney) animated films because like the characters there at least some of them were #it’s weird to see people who really lived in history contorted into easily digestible archetypes for a fictionalized story #weird always but esp weird in children’s animated movies that use magic and stuff. idk shrug #not saying all the villains in these stories were good ppl irl #but they were real people who were alive and it’s strange to see them made into caricatures of themselves in order to be villains #like rasputin was a weirdo and probably not a good guy like at all but the way he’s portrayed in anastasia is weird knowing he lived #in a time that he could be photographed. we have photos of this man lol
