what are your thoughts on the crew and squadmates in mea (all of them, yes)?
uh oh, lol. well, to absolutely nobody’s surprise I like the female crew a lot better than the male crew, but here we go:
jaal - boring and kind of sleazy? I don’t know. he reminds me of an eel. I don’t talk to him if I don’t have to.
liam - heavily adhd coded (impulsive and restless, does things without thinking them through because it seems right at the moment, has a hard time to control his more aggressive emotions, seems more youthful than he should at his age, strong sense of “instant fairness”). but of course it’s not adhd, it’s a character quirk, which is always fantastic when writers do that (that was sarcasm). he’s fun, but I don’t really get why he’s in andromeda (except if he’s actually got an adhd in which case everything makes sense if you don’t think about it too long).
drack - he’s a krogan. he’s got one emotion with perhaps the capability of developing a second. rah rah rah I’m a krogan
cora - I make fun of her a lot, because she’s trying so hard to be an asari. it’s good that she’s so super nice and supportive. I don’t know if there’s perhaps banter with peebee and cora about cora’s weird attitude? it would be appropriate because peebee feels alienated from asari culture and then there’s this human who wears it like a costume. and she’s straight so of course she’s super oppressed or whatever. idk she’s okay but she also makes me feel weird.
peebee - super fun, a lot more emotional and empathetic than I had expected. tragically sexualized. would go get drunk with her, but only with vetra as backup.
vetra - homegirl needs a break. she’s working too hard. she’s the kind of character I always wanted, except tragically not gay. she’s tall and strong and smart and a female tank and funny and caring and everybody’s best friend by default. how many female characters do you know who get to be so damn perfect? she says “shields are up. I’ll take the fire.” and I always want to throw myself in front of her but then remember that I’m a tiny fragile human and she’s fucking xena but with tech armor.
gil - very gay, which is good. kind of obnoxious sense of humour. more handsome than I thought at first. his story is about procreation wtf bioware
suvi - I don’t know if she knows other words than “amazing”. she sure doesn’t know the word lesbian as far as I can tell. I don’t know. she’s my people but I can’t relate to her at all and that’s really stupid. just to be clear, though: she’s still my people, don’t touch her.
kallo - I like him. a much better pilot than joker that’s for sure, and his feelings of loneliness are relatable and sad. my decision to save the salarian pathfinder over the krogan scouts had partly to do with him.
lexi - hearteyes. platonically, of course lmao. I mean, nobody can replace dr chocolates, but I’d like to go out for a drink or sth with lexi. I like that she’s more involved, too, and you can talk to her about your emotional well being. she just really cares about the crew and I hope she knows I care about her :’) her diet tips give me heartaches, though. 1 or less servings of fat, lexi. what the hell.

Obligatory question post
This is gonna be long as hell, sorry in advance. orz
(I haven’t finished the game yet, just fyi, on the Hunting the Archon quest right now)
The basics! Whats their full name, gender, and sexuality? Describe their general appearance and/or include a picture. Is there anything you canon beyond what the game allows?
Althea “Thea” Marie Ryder. Cisgender Female. Bisexual. Picture at the top of the post.
Beyond the game - She has a small amount of chub that she can’t get rid of no matter how in shape she gets and has begrudgingly learned to accept it.
Can’t always wear Initiative whites and blues, Whats their dress style like? Do they prefer casual wear, or being in armor? Is it the same as it was in the Milky Way? How, if applicable, has it changed since arriving in Helius?
She loves cool and dark colors, like navy and deep purple and black and dark gray and forest green. She prefers casual wear, and lives in jeans and hoodies. Occasionally skirts and drapey shirts. Heck, she went to meet the Angara while in her favorite hoodie (she wore it for luck). Yeah, it’s the same as in the Milky Way.
Do they have piercings, tattoos, or notable scars? Do they dye their hair, or is it a gene mod?
She has a belly piercing and a celtic knot between her shoulder blades towards her midback. She dyes her hair in random colors depending on her mood, and decided to make it white before she went into cryo, as a sort of clean slate type thing. She’s lazy about it and lets it grow out an inch or so before she redyes because her hair grows very fast. And is very thick and bushy. Which is also why she generally keeps it short.
Beyond the game - I’d change her hair color every so often if I could, since she’d redye it for various events and also just because.
What’s their personality like? How do they feel about being Pathfinder? How do they change, if at all, over the course of the story?
She’s a bit flippant and sarcastic, but mostly she’s a sweetheart. Sometimes inept, occasionally says something idiotic and offensive, but rarely on purpose. Seriously, she cares a lot. Doesn’t matter if she knows you or not, if you like her or not, if you need help and there’s a way she can help you, she’ll do it.
However, her biggest problem is that while she is more than willing to share her happiness, she very nearly absolutely refuses to share her problems, and will distance herself and block everyone out while she deals with it on her own.
It’s very noticeable because she’s usually very cheerful and bubbly, but when she’s in a bad mood or going through something, she’ll go very, very quiet.
Being Pathfinder just made her more stubborn and determined to do this, since she feels that she needs to be an example, and needs to show everyone what they need to see rather than... the flawed human she is. It also made her even more determined to take on everyone and anyone’s problems and fix them the best way she can.
She’s changed somewhat over the course of the story though, through getting to know her crew. Liam and Jaal especially are helping her to learn to open herself up and express herself in a healthier way.
She’s also an incredible nerd. Loves exploring and finding new things. Loves learning as much as she can about almost everything.
What’s their preferred profile, or class? Were they naturally inclined towards combat or technical skills? Were they a developed biotic, or did they first experience it with SAM?
Biotic. All the way. She wasn’t naturally inclined towards using her biotics for combat, oddly enough, preferring instead to use them to screw around and fling shit around the room. She gained her biotics through the exposure to eezo that her mother received.
Canon says they served in the Alliance before joining the Initiative, do you keep this canon, or have you made some changes? Explain their backstory either way.
She did serve in the alliance, almost more as a punishment than anything else. She was... a bit wild and got herself into some rather serious trouble, so it was her parents way of getting her shit together while also helping out the alliance.
Beyond the game - AFAIK Ryder canonically grew up on the Citadel. Not my Ryder. She spent most of her life on Earth, growing up in the southern US. She only moved to the Citadel in her late teens. She was only there about six years or so before they left the Milky Way altogether.
She’s got a slight southern drawl that gets stronger when she gets mad or upset. She uses southern slang without thinking about it sometimes, but sometimes she does it deliberately because it confuses others and she’s a little shit.
Everyone’s got one… List their (or your) favorite powers, weapons, and armor sets. Any special reason for these choices?
Weapon - N7 Eagle pistol. She modified it to shoot energy blasts and she freaking loves that thing.
Power - Lance. Love how it just splats directly into their face.
Armor set - Not particularly.
Its all in the family. Explain their relationship with Alec, Ellen, and their sibling. If you changed anyone’s names or added a different sibling in your canon, explain why.
Alec - He was very distant, always busy, so she doesn’t actually feel that close to him. There is still a bond, and she still has this urge to make him proud, but that’s... about all.
Ellen - She loved her mother very much, they were very close. It was her mother that helped instill in her the love of exploration and of learning that she has.
Scott - Her and her brother have a sort of love/hate relationship. They give each other a hard time, insult each other at the drop of a hat (usually they don’t mean it though) but they have each other’s backs no matter what. They were the sort that made up their own secret language and hand gestures to get into or out of trouble.
What’s their favorite memory they have of their sibling? Of their parents? How have they dealt with the aftermath of Habitat 7? How deeply does this effect them?
Her and Scott are both biotics, and since they were little shits they’d often try to think of games and stupid things they could do with them. Like the time they tried to play volleyball by hitting the ball with biotic blasts. It didn’t work. They ended up putting a hole in one of the walls. The parents were Not Amused.
Honestly, Habitat 7 hit so hard and so quickly that she was in shock for a while afterwards. She didn’t really deal with it, she just kind of packed it away.
As they unlock the memories, how does this change, if at all, their view of their parents?
As she started unlocking Alec’s memories however, she started to actually come to terms with his loss. It made her feel a little empty, since she didn’t feel like she’d actually had a lot of him there to lose.
Explain the way they feel about their squadmates, both initially and over the course of the story.
Liam - Initially she saw him as just another squadmate. Didn’t think about him, he was just kinda there. “Eh, seems an ok guy. Hope he doesn’t die or anything. That’d be a shame. Oh, shit, I forgot to get a drink before we left. Dammit.” After she got to know him though? Shit, he’s her new bestie. “There are so many movies we gotta marathon. Also, I have to make you some of my marshmallow popcorn. I swear you’ll love it.” There was a brief bit of flirting, but she ultimately decided they’d be better off as friends, and they’re both perfectly happy with that.
Cora - Initially she was kind of put off. I mean, she basically just talked about Alec and Asari and... yeah. But as she got to know her, they got to understand each other more and are now comfortable with each other. Sees her as a sort of surrogate big sister.
Vetra - Initially.... “Wow, what a badass. *hearteyes*” Now? “Wow, what a badass. And she’s my friend! What the fuck! This is amazing!” Secretly admires her cereal hoard. Secretly wants to steal Sid to be her own sister.
Peebee - Initially? Peebs jumped on her and she just kind of stared back in shock and somewhere deep within her brain she was like “I... have GOT to bang her before I die.” It was nearly instant crush. “She’s so cute! And smart! And sassy! I’m so gay!! How did I not know I’m so gay?!” Now? Well, she did bang her so that’s done (but it was no strings so..). The instant crush has mellowed out, and she cares for her a great deal. She doesn’t know how it’ll go yet.
Drack - Initially... holy shit, she actually squeaked out “Daddy!” when he first showed up, thank god he didn’t hear her. Liam did and snort-laughed so hard he nearly choked. She totally meant it in the family way though, not the “daddy” way, I swear. He’s practically adopted her by the time of his loyalty mission though so it worked out for her. He swears that she’s got a little krogan in her, and she just laughs that she must get it from him. Would have totally headbutted a krogan on Elaaden had the chance presented itself. He would have been so proud.
Jaal - Initially she didn’t really see him as an individual as much as she did just a representative of the Angara. She had a lot of scientific curiosity, and was bound and determined to make sure that he’d be taken care of and such, since he went with them in good faith and it’d be pretty shitty to send him back with a missing limb or something like that, but that was kind of it. She was kind because she’s a kind person and genuinely wanted to help his people, but she didn’t really care for him specifically in any real way. Then Liam started talking about how he wanted to get to know Jaal as a person and such, and she started seeing how the crew helping him effected him, how he kept commenting on how kind she was, and it really started sinking in. She started actually trying to get to know him too and spend time with him, talk to him about things that weren’t just her picking his brains over his culture and people (although she did that too). And whoops, she cares about him now a whole lot more than she ever expected to. She’s shying away from putting a label on those feelings as of yet, but whatever they are, they’re strong.
Explain the way they feel about the rest of the Tempest crew?
She finds Suvi to be an adorable little nerd even if her cooking is terrifying, she likes and respects Kallo quite a bit, and she likes Gil a lot even if she also sort of thinks he’s a petty little shit at times. Her pyjack, Jackjack (creative, isn’t it) and her hamster, Boo (yeah, I did that) are beyond reproach, even if she lives in fear of Jackjack pissing on her bed.
Beyond the game - She doesn’t keep Boo in that tiny little glass trap. What kind of cage is that? What the fuck? She put a nice hamster setup in her room and occasionally lets Boo run wild in a little hamster ball (only under supervision).
How about Nexus leadership and the people on the Nexus in general? What were their reactions to the Angara and the Exiles? How did learning there was a whole new species in Helius affect them? How did news of the rebellion affect them?
On the whole she likes the Nexus’s people. Mostly she’s neutral. Director Tann and Addison both annoy the hell out of her but Kesh and the turian (wtf was his name?!) are a-okay in her books.
She was actually scared shitless when she first met the Angara because she was certain they were gonna blow her ass out of space. Then she was just nervous because, while they hadn’t shot her, they still weren’t very happy to see her. And she was the first human they’d ever met. She can’t fuck this up!! She can’t!! Holy shit!!! Then Jaal got in her face. Overall it was very nerve-wracking and she tried to be as chill as she could but ended up telling a stupid joke anyway (but it all worked out in the end).
The rebellion and the Exiles both make her sad, and feel like the Nexus really really dropped the ball and let them down. Mostly she wants to help the ones who want help, and let the ones who don’t want it do their thing and be left in peace.
What about their interactions with the Kett?
She wanted for that first meeting to go well, she really did. When she found out how they were treating the Angara though and what they were doing, she felt less bad and is more or less out for their heads.
Did Ryder fall in love? If so, with whom? What drew them to that person? Would their sibling approve?
Things are complicated for her right now on the romance front. She is definitely crushing on Peebee, but she may or may not be falling in love with Jaal. She’s also kind of in denial about all of it, because, like Peebs, she’s skittish about matters of the heart. What drew her to them? Peebs is not only a fellow nerd, she’s a lot of fun, and a genuinely sweet person. Jaal is such an open and great guy that she seriously feels like she’s becoming a better person just by being around and close to him.
Would Scott approve? Possibly. Mostly he’d just be shocked that his weird little sister was actually in such a position in the first place. And that she’d already banged one of them. Jesus, Thea, wtf were you up to while I was out of it?
What does Ryder do in their spare time? What are their hobbies and interests? Do they share these with their friends, or are they more private?
Listens to music. Reads up on all the new info on stuff in Andromeda. Paces around the ship. Randomly pesters everyone else about whatever they’re up to and their thoughts on various things going on.
She’s more private about her reading, but occasionally shares her music with the others. Tried to set up a karaoke night but it was shot down. She did end up singing in the bar on Kadara once, though. It was pretty fun.
How do they feel being in command of the Tempest? Whats their favorite part of the ship? Least favorite?
She loves the Tempest. It’s gorgeous. It’s got space. It’s fast as hell.
Favorite part - Her room.
Least favorite part - Doesn’t have one tbh.
How about driving the Nomad? Are they a good or terrible driver?
She absolutely loves driving the Nomad. She’s a shitty driver in that she will drive up every mountain and over every cliff she sees like she is trying to kill her squadmates. She does it for the thrill though. And efficiency.
How do they feel about their connection with SAM? What’s their views on AI in general? Knowing Milky Way history and the attack on Eden Prime and the Citadel a recent memory, did the Geth influence this view? Does their view on SAM change?
SAM is a blessing and a curse. He is learning to be more human, but he can still be cold at times, and... also very, very repetitive. Honestly, all the stuff that happened with the Geth just made her more set in her opinion that AI should be treated with dignity and respect like any other sentient life.
Favorite world they landed on? How do they feel getting to be the first human to step in many of these places?
Her favorite world is actually Kadara. She freaking loves the sand and all the pools of hot water (well, after they got fixed so they wouldn’t melt you). She can’t wait for it to stabilize to the point that it becomes a spa planet. Then she’ll probably live there. The political climate is much more stable, and all she really wants is a tiny hole in the wall. The people are all liars, but the planet itself is a+. And there’s a great bar!
She doesn’t think so much about how she’s the first human, she just gets caught up in how amazing it is to see everything for the first time.
How do they feel about the Remnant? Are they worried? Curious? Simply accepting of what they can do with it?
She’s a little worried about the rem-tech. The more they use it, the more it feels too good to be true. She still uses it though, since it does so much good.
Do they ever wish they could just return to the Milky Way? Do they miss anything in particular about their old home? Did they bring anything special with them?
Honestly, she misses people more than places, and there’s no going back to them.
What she brought - Tons of music and picture files of particularly scenic places.
How do they feel about what they’ve accomplished in Helius? Are they proud? Worried? Do they feel positive about the chances for a cluster-wide unity? If they could change anything that had happened since everyone arrived in the cluster, what would it be and why?
Overall she feels like she’s doing a pretty good job. She’s proud of herself and the Initiative as a whole (even if they’ve stumbled more than she’d like). She does kind of wish they’d gotten there sooner, maybe they could have helped the Angara out more, prevented some things from happening, but there’s no way to know that for sure so she doesn’t think about it much.

30 days of Juniper
source
earlier entries
8 Days: How does Ryder feel about aliens? Are they uncomfortable, wary, intrigued, curious, intimidated, not bothered, etc? In the Milky Way, where did they stand on humanity’s place in galactic society - Earth first, Terra Firma, human superiority, peaceful cooperation, pro-galactic integration & unity, etc? How will they feel upon discovering that there are sentient alien races in Andromeda?
Juniper grew up surrounded by aliens, formed tight bonds with them, worked with them, kissed some of them. She has basically zero prejudices towards other species and knows that humans are the ones invading other worlds and hopes for peaceful contact and diplomacy. For her, the whole galaxy holds the possibilty of learning and discovering and making new friends along the way. Sure it’s a tad naive to assume that every specias can live together, while respecting their own background and uniqueness, but one can hope. Juniper is all about galactic society being full of peace and learning from each other and doesn’t care about “humanity first”.
7 Days: Ryder’s father gave the twins informal N7 training in the past. How did Ryder feel about this (pressured, resentful, grateful, motivated, overworked, excited, etc)? What are their feelings on “N7” as a symbol? How do they relate to it, if at all?
Pressure. With Alec Ryder everything is always about pressure and shaping his kids into something they don’t even want. Part of her is still bitter and angry about having to put so much work in informal training. Not that Juniper isn’t grateful in general, because the training could save her life, but she grew up seeing what N7 meant to a family, how it seemed more important than loved ones. She’s pretty critical of the concept in general.
6 Days: Does your Ryder know your Shepard? What do they think of Shepard? Would they get along? What would Shepard think of Ryder?
Everyone knows Shepard. Or has at least seen some of the vids about what happened at the Citadel with the rouge spector Saren. Juniper is pretty impressed with them, but far away from any kind of hero worship. She has her own shit to deal with and not enough time to follow the famed Commander. I guess my Calanthe Shepard would find Juniper too obnoxious and loud and too naive and would slap her on the back of her head (gently)
5 Days: Out of the squadmates, Tempest crewmembers and other characters shown so far, who do you think Ryder will get along well with? Who do you think they will get along best with? Why?
Everyone? Kinda. Hard to answer, because I don’t know them that well, but Liam and her humor match, and she’ll be super impressed with Drack, while her and Jaal share an emotional openness, which can be pretty uncommon, and she has immense hearteyes and respect for Vetra and will try to form a close relationship with Cora. Not to mention that I’m sure that she’ll click with Suvi.
4 Days: Out of the squadmates, Tempest crewmembers and other characters shown so far, is there anyone you think Ryder won’t gel so greatly with, dislike or otherwise come into conflict with? Why?
Peebee. Just. No.
3 Days: Do you plan on romancing anyone with Ryder? If so, who? Why? What qualities would Ryder find attractive in a partner (if applicable)?
I think so, yes. Of course, I got this whole huge backstory about Juniper and Elon and it’ll be hard to find anyone, who can click with her like he did? I have my eye on Liam, though. Maybe Vetra. Juniper needs someone, who accepts all of herself, the too much parts, the uncomfortable jokes, the awkward moments, the dancing and singing and collecting pretty rocks. Someone, who calms her, makes her feel whole, but also doesn’t take themself too seriously.

So, Tenny plays Mass Effect Andromeda...
Aka my impressions and what do I think so far. (I will try to keep it spoiler-free, but some minor spoilers anyway)
My Ryder
Tumblr media
Sadly, I don’t have a better pic yet since screenshoting doesnt work, so pic from my phone at least. (used preset 4, i think?)
I kept her default name, so she is called Sara. Her brother is adjusted preset 4, as well.
And what she is like? Well, she is kind of a dork and very unsure in her new role, but she is getting there. Mostly tries to be professional and calm and sticking to principles, but has lot of empathy for others. (i usually use professional conversation option and mix of logical and heart)  She misses her family a lot.
She didn’t have time yet to think about romance or anything (she is biromatic ace, btw), but she really likes Vetra and Jaal is certainly interesting too.
So far, I really like all the companions - Liam is a bro, Cora is great, Peebe is fun, Vetra is *hearteyes*, Jaal is new and amazing, Drack is my new grandpa. And crew is great too, I just wish Kallo and Gil wouldn’t fight so much! The only crew member I am not that keen on is Suvi cause my atheist ass kinda feels uncomfortable around her. Oh, well.
I havent met any game-breaking bugs yet, only some minor annoyances. The jumping is great and nomad is certainly better than mako.
And I am really enjoying the game and story so far!
