top 5 items you would bring from the neath to your actual real living space if you could! -@neathyingenue
Kudos to this ask leading to me staring at my Fallen London inventory for an alarmingly long time. What a fascinating question.
That's so dependent on what implications the existence of some of these items would have, whether they'd keep all their qualities or be diminished when exposed to our world, and also how the more abstract items in Fallen London would be handled. Does a key to a Handsome Townhouse grant me ownership of an actual townhouse somewhere?
Basically all of these come with caveats:
Hesperidean Cider/Peach Brandy
Does this work without the presence of Stone? Without the Neath? What does it imply about theology and the world, considering the former's association with the Garden of Eden? Does the immortality and wound recovery only work in a hypothetical Neath, or would it work for those on the surface? Is it a limited amount?
Thought experiments aside, the nigh-boundless healing from injury and sickness make either of these invaluable, even if I wasn't keen on the immortality part. I'd even take the visions.
Deed to a Handsome Townhouse
Dependent, of course, on whether or not I actually get a house. 🥲 I would very much like a house, and a Victorian style one? With room enough to host either salons or an entire orphanage? Sun room?? Sign me up.
Concentrate of Self
The life affirming realisation: not only were you right, but you were right when others had driven you to doubt. A potent liquid – to be dosed carefully.
I'm not above admitting I could use the self confidence or clarity of self. Couldn't we all?
In lieu of that, I will also take a customized Tasting Flight of Targeted Toxins.
Neathoscope/Ray Drenched Cider
Looks cool, okay? Pretty. I can be trusted with Neathbow effects-

Tie between a Fabulous Diamond (money) or an Aeolian Scream/Storm Threnody because I want to know what it sounds like
Honourable mentions that I probably should not be allowed to have even hypothetically:
Any soul: implications for theology and the human form and all major religions somewhat troubling. Morally unethical. Rather concerning as a curio. Still tempting. It.. It would look cool, I bet.
Any item of implied mass control/incredible political sway/powerful influence (Rumormongers' Network, Dreadful Surmise, Favours in High Places, Secret College, etc. etc.): Warabola should not be trusted with Government secrets. Entirely uncertain how this would actually work in the real world, or how to cash them in without being assassinated for it. Too complicated.
Any implied drug or consumable substance (honey, any food item, dishes from the Station VII kitchen, crystallized euphoria, etc): Listen. Listen, okay. I am often seized by the fatal need to have a good time and/or give in to my curiosity. I am so fucking curious.
Anything contained in a mirrorcatch box: See above.
Potentially world-shattering revelations or academic discoveries (Impossible Theorems, Sealed Copy of the Crimson Book, research items, etc.): I'm not smart enough for this. I would not know what to do with this. I cannot guarantee that me having this wouldn't either break my mind or unleash some kind of memetic horror unto the world.
Any boat: Expensive. Requires docking fees, maintenance, a crew to man it and their wages-- no matter how much I might be compelled to have a boat, I cannot have a boat, even if I do live on an island.
Amber in the context of being able to perform shapeling arts, even though it would be So Gender Euphoria of me to have it: I have no ability for visualization and no greater understanding of biology. No.
Sugarplum: Disqualified for being a creature and not an item. See also: world shattering revelations.
Any of the treasures: Dear god, no. Do not let them have these.
