Canum only gave a huff in a billow of condensation, a slight turn of the head to the miqo’te bundled up in what he was fairly certain was at least four layers on each limb, white tail curled up inside the long and ridiculous puffy coat, all that could really be seen of him was a pair of blue and gold eyes. 

Another billow of cloud sighed out, sitting on the bare cold steel, only a jacket more that he wore in the uncomfortably balmy La Noscean weather. “Our apartment used to be there. Or, about halfway up the building that used to be there. No elevators, of course.” He pointed to a pile of twisted steel and rubble gathering snow, the building sheared down to the pavement. “The academy was down that street,” A partial building, a corner still stood, but surely it have been looted for scraps thoroughly, “There was a market, there, that sold even to aan in the city, I was cen, back then, but some friends weren’t so lucky.” 

There was a moment’s pause between them, the cat seemingly taking the information in as they watched the ruined empire grey and freeze. Canum sitting on the ledge, feet dangling some twenty floors up, Q’ruhka leaning into an alcove of what once was a corner of an interior room, out of the wind’s reach. But he expected that it was what he hadn’t said that was garnering more consideration. 

“Probably could make lux damn easy if’n yeh stayed, yeh know, they’d be idiots to turn yeh away with th’ state their in. Mal even.” 

“It was unheard of to give someone like me jen, before.” He wasn’t sure where he was going with that, things have changed, the cat was likely right. The things he wanted so badly before, before…

“No. Couldn’t do that to dad, his remaining joints wouldn’t survive it.” He decided flatly, “Gridania’s been good for him, ‘making old geezer friends’ as he puts it. And you know he wouldn’t let me be up here alone.” 

“Hmm. Aye, stubborn ol’ beast he is.” 

“Besides, I prefer my work there,” Canum pried himself off the icy beam, pants half frozen to it already, to stand and straighten himself out. “And not having to shovel five fulms of snow every morning.” 

“More arms an’ legs then? Or ready t’ move on in another sense?” 

“I think I’ll revisit my discrete exoskeleton designs, moving limbs that can’t be moved.” 

“Aye, well,” The cat reluctantly pulled himself out of the corner to step into the small skip of an airship docked to the side, “Sure you’ll find some use fer it anyways.”
