Also, YET MORE ATHF HEADCANONS (mainly mooninite biology related stuff+ some Plutonian bio stuff)
1. I mentioned this before a couple times, but juvenile mooninites are called “kits” and occasionally “bitkits”. “Bitkit” is a term generally reserved for newly-hatched kits.
2. As babies they are small enough to fit in a human hand.
3. Before they develop the ability to talk, they make a variety of electronic-sounding noises. Mostly beeping. Pretty much all beeping. They sometimes also sound like Gen-1 Pokemon cries and NES sound effects. And zebra finches.
4. Elsewhere in the solar system we have the Plutonians, and regarding them I’m not sure if I mentioned my headcanon that the species consists of two subspecies, one carnivorous and the other herbivorous, before, but I’ll explain it here anyway.
If you pause the show at the right moment you can see that for some reason the animators gave Emory sharp teeth. Oglethorpe does not have these (to my knowledge). His teeth are more in line with those of an herbivore.
Herbivorous Plutonians are generally squatter and spikier than their carnivorous cousins, being less adapted for hunting. The spikes are an ancient adaptation intended to protect them from predators.
Said predators at one point included the Carnivorous Plutonians. For thousands of years the two subspecies were basically at war until they figured out they were actually the same species and decided cannibalism was fucked up. Carnivorous Plutonians are leaner, less spiky, and more agile.
5. Jumping off of that, juvenile Herbivorous Plutonians are basically like little sea urchins or porcupines. They are absolutely COVERED in sharp, SHARP spines...which really sucks for their mothers because the species is viviparous. Ouch.
They lose these “baby spikes” starting around age 3 and tend to have all their adult spikes by age 12. And yes, they have their own version of the tooth fairy but for spikes/quills.
Carnivorous Plutonians, on the other hand, aren’t born covered in tons of sharp spines but rather completely and utterly lacking in spikes. They don’t grow spikes until they hit puberty.
6. That waste product/soap is actually a slime coat that’s meant to aid in keeping the skin from drying out. It congeals into a thick, viscous purple substance in higher temperatures. Which basically means anything close to 60 degrees Fahrenheit or however much that is in Celsius. It’s not actually poop. It’s more like if you could sweat lotion but if you were out in the sun too long it turned into expired pudding.
And yes I am aware that analogy makes no sense.
Plutonians consider anything over -15 degrees Fahrenheit to be uncomfortable.
