apologies to everyone who actually keeps up an aesthetic on their electronic devices but, in my humble opinion, commitment to the bit comes first. i'm so committed to this bit that i've had nick cage as my homescreen/lockscreen for four years. i'm not even kidding. the bit has long since passed the talking stage – we're balls deep into a committed relationship. you know how it goes. first base is watching national treasure together, second is making him your phone screen, third is co-writing a nicholas cage x reader fanfic, fourth is holy matrimony. that's right. holy matrimony. all my sorority sisters are off tying the knot with their eager eager frat beaus, but nickie's taking his sweet sweet time in asking me to forever bind my life to his. but i don't mind the wait. one of the best things about being in a digital parasocial committed relationship is that your boyf will not be going anywhere ever, because his actual personality has become so warped by perspective and idealization that all reality has been lost. yeah. your man might be real but mine is a b-list celebrity who lives in my phone. uh huh. let's see who comes out on top when the heavens crumble and the earth gives way beneath your feet. when the rivers rise and the moon blots out the sun. you will cling to your mortal dalliances and sob for all that has been lost; but not i. i will not despair. for the god i worship has no throne above from which to fall, no fiery lake below in which to drown. he is a mortal trapped in amber; an unadulterated idea; the most undying parts of the doomed human consciousness. he peddles neither salvation nor damnation – merely imperfect perfection, an unreal balm to smooth the aching gears of the human condition. the thing which i value most can never be lost, for it has never truly existed. except, perhaps, my lockscreen streak. breaking that would be truly tragic.
