61 albums, fuck ton of posters and postcards (some from albums and some are freebies from keychains i bought) , my little binder has 146 photocards (including fanmade ones), and 2 lightsticks (shinee and loona).

i have 4 out of 8 skzoo plushies (i dont really want the rest tbh, puppym and hanquokka were gifts) 2 furbies with batteries taken out (mr blue sky is fully working, msslimer has a broken voice. both of them just get too annoying when theyre on but i still love them) 2 oui ouis (tomato is not named, shitter oui is named taemin) the., oui oui tadpole thing (named yeojin) and you cannot see but bang chan is standing in front of the 6 card decks i have (all diff themes, favs are my f13, pmmm and dbd card decks) little unicorn kitty plush is named charlotte and i got her from one of my buddies :)

not pictured are my loona summer pckge and skz seasons greetings bc theyre boring to look at, my poster tubes (onew dice + circle, 4 key posters, 1 xh overload and the 2023 smcu shinee) and my stack of folded posters (3 key, 2 skz, and 3 loona) and the rest of my loona seasons greetings is off somewhere bc my dumbass threw away the box when i got it. also my pinboard and figures but ive posted my figures already and my pinboard is empty except for some dbd and ososan keychains and various tiny pins i have. theres also a bunch of other plushies but i dont really count them in this and i have 2 bts cupsleeves from cupsleeve events (idgaf abt bts but. i have them) also loona fabric poster i have hanging on my lights and my trickster fan. my trickster plushy sits on my desk next to super sucklet and my wife figures.

the cd holder has all the cds from these albums (so somewhere around 61 except some albums had multiple cds and one album is a cassette tape so it doesnt really go in there)

i flipped off my skz poster bc the top corner always wants to fall off the fucking wall and i haved to put it up with duct tape bc it kept falling down.

i would put up my other posters like the key ones but my parents wont let me so the small ones in my closet and on my bookshelf are all i really have. Maybe one day like 20 years from now if im still kicking

@somewhereohio has once again knocked me flat with this episode. The worldbuilding around Jasmine and what's going on with her memories is incredible! I am an Orange Splice stan 1st and person 2nd. Also the Nadia/Alex scene breaks my heart because I know how they end 😭.

New Technomancy Project was SO GOOD!! And I was FUCKING RIGHT!!! I said this before but I love having all of them play Belial's game this time around and I don't think there's a single EPO agent who didn't make me cry this ep. The Technomancy Project continues to kick ass

Continuing to make my way through the Storage Papers this week and episodes 13-19 were VERY good. I said "Nope, don't like that" out loud multiple times while listening to 19 which is the exact reaction you want from a horror pod.

The Big Finnish Music Project for International Kääryleet, part 6.

Go to part 1 for all the context. We pick up where part 5 left off, as the list is more or less in chronological order.

This is the last part before the bonus part, and this part takes us from 2015 to 2024.

Paleface

Could be called the godfather of Finnish hiphop. Paleface is like the OG of all OG's, but he was relatively underground for a long time. He made music in english at first, and was known but not massive. His first album in Finnish came out in 2015 and it was a massive success. It was also openly political and heavily critisising capitalism and the way the country was ran. This song is Talonomistaja, from that very album.

Antti Tuisku

Antti Tuisku rose to fame 2003 through Idols singing competition, but the reason he is in the 2010's section of the list is because the linked song, Peto on irti, really started a whole new era, arguably the most iconic era, in his career in 2015. Antti Tuisku got a lot of shit in the early 2000's for being the girls favourite and for "looking gay" and having "a gay vibe". He got so much hate, it was insane. But Peto on irti/En kommentoi album started his fuck you i'm doing me -era, that really exploded into a phenomenon in Finland, and is arguably also the era that Jere looks up to - the icnonic entertainer era of Antti Tuisku. Also the era of Auto jää, so, on this list, Antti Tuisku is a 2010's artist. So here is the song that kicked off this new gear, Peto on irti. Ironically enough, when Ville-Galle from JVG made a version of this song on a popular tv show, it quickly becme the goal song of the men's ice hockey team, so in a way, Antti Tuisku really got back at the toxic masculinity culture that always shit on him.

Teflon Brothers

A rap and dance trio, who made hit after hit after hit especially 2012-2019. Their hits are usually about drinking and partying or sex, so they definitely fall in the entertainment category with comedic elements that was at its peak in the 2010’s, but they’re not as obviously crass or wacky as the likes of Petri Nygård, and the members do more serious projects as well. The linked song is their 2015 hit Pämppää, which has definitely become a party classic.

Behm

Jere never shuts up about Behm, he drags Behm by the hand to Emma Awards stage with him, just Behm this Behm that, so if you guys haven't looked up her music by now, here is her first single, Hei rakas from 2019, just one click away. She is one of the most critically acclaimed and well regarded singer songwriters in Finland at the moment.

Portion Boys

Many of you know them, they pop up from time to time in the Käärijä world, and competed against him in UMK. They broke through in 2021 with their song Vauhti kiihtyy, which features Matti ja Teppo, an iconic iskelmä duo of brothers, who have been singing together for decades. Portion Boys are part of the scene that is making old iskelmä (Finnish schlager) music popular with the kids by adding a dance beat to it and their own lyrics to verses. Portion Boys songs are also often about partying, and they’re often full of innuendos as well. Their vibe is like entertainment and fun above all else. This is them performing Vauhti kiihtyy together with Matti ja Teppo in the Emma awards in 2022.

KUUMAA

I almost want to just tag every mutual i have who i know is into KUUMAA and just let them do this part, to really highlight the KUUMAA fever in Finland right now. They've risen to massive popularity and fame in quite a short amount of time, and many of you will also know them from UMK23. And also from the Käärijä boyfriend Pokedex and as one of his fave bands. Consult your nearest kuumblr member for more information on the actual music, you'll find them by shouting into the Käärijä tag. This is one of their bigger hits, Tulipalo from 2023, which as far as i know, has been on the Spotify top 50 list in Finland for some ridiculous amount of time, like a year straight or something.

Mirella

I put Mirella here because I know she is like the hottest name in Finnish pop music right now, but that is all i know about her, and i'm gonna keep it super real and leave it at that lmao. This is Timanttei from 2024.

Final thoughts at the end of part six:

Notice how so much of the full six part list is rock? How prevalent rock music and even metal music was in Finland 20 years ago, 30 years ago, 40 or even 50 years ago? Notice how all of the most globally successful Finnish artists are either rock or metal, with the occasional electronic music artist? Notice the gradual rise of rap music in the last 30 years? How many of the domestically big names are rap/hip hop? Well, throw all of that into a big pot, sprinkle in some of that humorous and comedic side of Finnish music, and what you get is basically Käärijä. It makes sense that what he does works so well, that he is so good at it, and that it grabbed Finnish people immediately, as soon as he made it on to a national platform. He is something new and different, something we haven’t quite seen before, yet still quintessentially Finnish.

And I'm almost tempted to start a similar list of all the Finnish comedy shows and memes he has ever referenced but it could actually end me if I attempted it because the list is endless, but we shall see. The man simply lives and breathes Finnish culture.

Alright SO! Here's the breakdown and I'll give like the ~vibes~ of these too, for those of you who have no idea who these artists are (meaning you DOA).

Rumours is very much spiteful witch classic rock goddess vibes thanks to the multiple breakups and affairs going on with that group in 1976. I don't think anything else can compare to it, to be honest. Every single song is still played on the radio to this day, and 8 of the 10 tracks are singles. It was pretty fucking traumatic for them to make but the music has held up nicely. Christine and Stevie writing songs about their ex-partners while also having affairs with band members and sound crew was........... something. Check out You Make Loving Fun and Dreams for more evidence. (This is kinda cheating but there's another song called Silver Springs that Stevie wrote about Lindsey which was a B-side to his spiteful anthem You Can Go Your Own Way which was written about her. Anyway, Silver Springs really gives him the finger. "I'll follow you down 'till the sound of my voice will haunt you/You'll never get away from the sound of the woman that loved you" is a curse if I have ever heard one. Like FUCK Stevie....... jesus christ woman)

River of Dreams is classic rock, heavy on the piano and bass. Billy's chops are on full display and his writing is clean and clear. It has some underrated bangers like Two Thousand Years and Famous Last Words. The album is overall more symbolic than most of his work. Think literal dreamscape (which is then-wife Christie Brinkley designed the cover art in reference to).

WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? is indie pop at its finest. Billie and her brother/producer Finneas created something utterly fucking whack and unmistakably brilliant, and it's one of my favorites because Billie's main design when crafting music is using a minor key and 4/4 time, which is like my go-to when finding new music. I love her other works too, but ilomilo sits inside my psyche so well that I forget where I am and let it guide me into a writing flow. I also love bury a friend mainly because the high-pitched whizzing sound bite is a literal dentist drill. Finneas recorded a literal dentist drill to create that sound.

Let's Talk About Love is your typical contemporary love song album with lots of slow and steady major key songs, but Treat Her Like a Lady is my favorite track on the whole thing. I love its reggae rhythm and upbeat anthem sound. A close second is the much slower and moodier Where Is The Love. Also, Celine doesn't write her own music, whereas everyone else on this list does. But I love her sound and her technique is a masterclass.

Dreamboat Annie oh my god... Dreamboat Fucking Annie. What a hell of an album. You've got Magic Man which is a funky, swamp witch type of song, and then you have the frenzied Crazy On You with its wide swinging tomtom hits and strong bass line, and then the sisters on Sing Child is like the female version of The Guess Who's No Time with the beautiful harmonies and HOLY *SHIT* Nancy Wilson can play a guitar. Like oh my GOD can she play a guitar.

second nature - love it. def feels like a grower on me though.

slow dance - the flute part toward the end was interesting. def the percussion reminds me of immunity w the snare. love it??

thank you - i love the upbeatness of this omg. i think this might be my favorite so far!!!!! literally so good???

terrapin - i loved the percussion on this one. it feels reminiscent of immunity in its simplicity but also like sling with how everything fits in tandem with one another. its so calm and chill and i def think its a favorite for me. like second to thank you. i like the lyrics too. it just feels nice.

juna - okok i think i have to take back what i said on the last track being my second favorite so far. this one trumps that one. its my def 2nd fav. its GOT SUCH A VIBE UGHHH I LOVE IT. i know i keep bringing up the instrumental but holy shit i adore this sound for herrrr. her vocals on this too. it fits her!!! its so good. we are literally so back. eating so good as clairo fans.

add up my love - FUCK SHES MAKING IT SO HARD TO CHOOSE A SECONF FAVORITE ON THIS ALBUM. ITS LITERALLY SO GOOD TOO WHAT THE HECK. I LOVE THIS ONE OMG. LIKE- ATP GIVE IT A 3 WAY TIE FOR SECOND PLACE UGHHHH I LITERALLY ADORE THIS ONE OMG. LIKE ITS GOT SUCH GOOD VIBES AND GODDDDDD THE PERCUSSION!!!! IMMUNITY CORE LOW KEY. literally every song slaps and we are literally so back.

echo - okay this one was good but i didnt feel all that blown away over it. it definitely was nice and i liked the second half of it, but i feel like this ones a grower for me in terms to the track list so far. HOWEVER THE FUCKING TRANSITION INTO THE NEXT SONG!!!! WHAT!!! THATS LITERALLY SO EVERYTHING!!!!

glory of the snow - i liked this one omg. i feel like i sound like a broken record but this one was really nice. i dont think it compares to the earlier tracks for my favorite because theres so many already but if i had to itd be on that list toward the bottom. its definitely a favorite but slightly less favorable than the others i was freaking out about. she really has made it hard to pick favorites on this album ffs. 😭. ALSO THE SONG TRANSITION TOO??? WHATS WITH THAT MA'AM!!!

pier 4 - this definitely felt like a good closing track to end the album. i enjoyed it overall. it feels like her, but in a different perspective. its not immunity and its not sling but a whole different thing that feels like it bonded the both together. i think this album is sooooo good for her and like her best work yet but i dont think i could compare it at all to her other albums because they feel like their own seperate lives and beings. its somewhere in the middle of them that brings out the best parts of both of them that charm lives. its genuinely a good album and has so much replayabilty for me. i loved it!!!! i think i have to listen to it again to grasp a list because the songs meld so cohesively that it makes it hard to remember my feelings on them because im so caught up in the moment of being excited for the new music.

18. Do you title your fics before, during, or after the writing process? How do you come up with titles?

All three!! Titling is actually my favorite part. Usually, they come from song titles, lyrics, or references that I felt either really captured the theme of the characters or the plot. Or sometimes they are the inspiration!! Sometimes they are funny, catchy or sexy in ways I think will bring people in but mostly they are song titles/lyrics haha  Almost all of the angsty Harringrove fics I wrote (13+ i think now) are MGK songs haha 2020-2022 was my all MGK all the time period because he dropped two sick fucking albums in two years and helped me out of more spirals than I can count.

Oh shit idk can I check that? Let me go look… Alright im too high to do that and google wasn't helpful so i'm taking a guess haha probably Smut or angst. I don't write exclusively smut or angst but almost every single fic I have has hurt/comfort scenes or sex scenes in them. Probs cuz people cry and have sex in real life haha and i'm tired of the bullshit on tv

I don't write anything with scat or piss play, just not my thing so i think it would be difficult to write it for me. I don't have usually any hard no’s when it comes to writing. The content I consume is a different answer though. Likely because I have the ability to just not think about the things I don't want to think/write about whereas if I don't check does the dog die.com before a movie I’ll be panicking the whole time I’m gonna be triggered by on screen SA which seems to be a recurring theme in EVERY scary/thriller these days (fuck YOU hollywood)

40. If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?

AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! Dude any!!!! But i'm also a horny slut so really any of the Hankconvin, steddiegrove, harringrove, parksborn sex scenes are good with me!!

I’m a huge re-reader/reconsumer. I will watch the same show 100 times and never get tired of it. Same with the fics I read. I’m a SUCKER for that good good content

Wait I lied going in a rabbithole of songs that made me feel this way I think Heaven by Dr Dog is the perfect contender. It's fucking instrumental but I genuinely had to bar off that song all last year or else i WOULD cry. Dr Dog can do this to me I know Living a Dream did that for a long time still does.

28. THIS IS SO FUCKED UP. I feel like Singers are just such an important part of every band this is impossible. I genuinely could not give one single song because what just happened above would happen again HOWEVER I have to say there is such a charm to really early and rough recordings from any band ever, or at least any that we have demos and early work of. Their style and voice just haven't quite found where it wants to be yet, but it still sounds wonderful. Marc Bolan's voice in his early works make me smile a bit because you can hear his bob dylan impression and i think thats cute.

Relentless Replays:

These albums could have made the all-star list because I played them enough for it. Consider these projects as taking the silver medal on the podium; albums absolutely worth listening to and if I could chuck everything into the all-star list, I would. Alas, artificial limitations.

Antarctica - Bayang (tha Bushranger) Not content to leave 2023 without spoiling his fans, Bayang makes his catchiest, most optimistic project yet. "GANGA" is my favourite song he's released period and it sits aside a bevy of songs where you can hear how much fun went into it. Give it a bit of time to process (it was a December release after all) and this could easily be my favourite Bayang project and definitely the one that will get the most playtime because of how accessible it is.

I Was Mature For My Age But I Was Still A Child - Grouptherapy Do you also miss BH because they were formative to your growth as a person and all the allegations coming out against them have you down? If so boy howdy do I have the album for you! IWMFMA reels you in by reminding you of the Saturation era (in particular the first instalment) but doubles down on the fundamentals, swapping DIY coarseness for polished technical prowess. Bombastic, chock full of personality and incredibly versatile, there is a track for every person and every occasion here.

Beloved! Paradise! Jazz!? - McKinley Dixon Mckinley Dixon made For My Mama and Everyone Who Looks Like Her, so I should not have been caught as off-guard as I was when this project was released. And yet, the first time I heard this album I was already convinced it was practically flawless. In its brevity, BPJ doesn’t skip a single beat nor miss a lick of detailing and polish, as each song feels vibrant and full of the essence of living.

April Mixtape 3 - Snow Strippers I have never been an EDM girly, but this album makes me want to go to raves, drop a tab and just space out for hours. Endlessly replayable with beautiful vocals soaked in distinct internet electronics, this album will make even the most intense introverts want to take caps and stare at glow sticks for a night. The Aux - Blockhead A cavalcade of creatively assembled instrumentals featuring a highlight reel of the underground hip-hop elite. Blockhead casually reminds you why he is one of the best producers working right now. 

Shapeless - Daine I read a lot of think pieces about the death knell of hyperpop in 2023 but with releases like Shapeless, I think people are opting to be wilfully deaf. Daine puts their whole chest into every hook on this album with beats that flutter with technological clangs and heaves. Exhilarating hyperpop euphoria Quaranta - Danny Brown Danny Brown returns with an album that has supposedly been finished for a few years - telling, considering that the emotional poignance of the album feels very specific to a point in time. Fantastic and highly consistent, it is a much more mellow album for Danny but no less quality than what we have come to expect. Guts - Olivia Rodrigo You motherfuckers tried to write this girl off as making teeny-bop music and I won't forgive you for it. Olivia Rodrigo is one of the most promising pure-pop artists of this generation. She says it on the opener - she knows her age, acts like it, and makes music that perfectly encapsulates it to boot. Sundial - Noname Lmao im sorry fuck Fantano, Noname is one the most important artists of the current day and Sundial is a testament to both her intellect and spirit, with words that prick the conscious like spears. I genuinely do not have the words to describe the beauty of a track like gospel?, nor her second verse on "balloons" which tactfully breaks down the voyeurism of black art. You almost have a responsibility to sit with this album properly.

Bite-sized Brilliance

2023 was the year of the EP and I'm so glad because they are great introductory pieces to artists or just compact packages of enjoyment.

Violet, Zion Garcia, Darling - LITERALLY EVERY FULL CIRCLE RELEASE For my coldest take so far, 2023 was the year of Full Circle. With growing attention on Western Sydney, this clique absolutely spearheaded it. Every single release from every single artist was fantastic and at least one song off each made my year favs. (there is another project that Im gonna mention in my all-star list hehe). If you want grungey RNB with vocals that smother in sensuality, listen to Dylan Atlantis. If you want creative Jazzy hip-hop from one of the brightest upcoming rappers in Aus, Zion Garcia. If you want a digital genre collage dedicated to the sounds of the city, FRIDAY* is your man. Anticipating everything this group does for the foreseeable future. GUILD I - SEVY x GRASPS x BAYANG x UNCLE KAL They really got Kal rapping again - with tracks that are this undeniably infectious, I can see how! Feel-good fun for late-night activities Another Triumph of Ghetto Engineering - Open Mike Eagle and Lilac Diesel - R.A.P FERREIRA A couple of short but sweet releases by two underground hip-hop legends that should keep fans satiated until their next major releases. Reflections on the Water, ONE7OVE, Michelangelo - Gian Santorno One of the most promising discoveries I made this year, Gian raps on the perfect instrumentals to suit their vinyl-crackle rapping and the unashamed self-dissection of themself is enthralling.

Ohmgee...so I listen to a huge range of music and I like introducing people to my favourite artists, so I’ll try to get a broad scope here for my song list. I listen to way more music than this, a lot of game OST’s, breakcore, getting back into some shibuya kei (it’s really just Serani Poji) but I tried having music that wasn’t too niche here.

1. Eggs by Your Neighbors

One of my absolute favourite artists nowadays, every time they release a new single it’s like a holiday. Your Neighbors covers a really interesting range of genres. I’ve always liked this song but it’s semi grown on me even a bit more lately. Though Princess is absolutely my favourite one, and Rabies is a new great track also. Your Neighbors has some standout tracks but really not by much and I can never definitively put any one of their songs on my top ten or five of all time or something.

2. Ok Then by Matt Watson

Supermega fan obviously but I genuinely wasn’t expecting one of Matt’s songs to be maybe one of my top songs of all time? It’s in a list somewhere. I think the content of the song is incredibly relatable even if its really specific to Matt’s whole deal. I also just really like how it sounds. The chorus fucks and I like the double meaning.

3. Paisley Patterns by Jamie Paige

I’ve been listening to Jamie since Anew, Again as a result of Grand Restore coming up on my Soundcloud way back in high school, and the production on Bittersweet is fucking crazy. I listened to her songs so much during my life drawing classes in college...crazay. Anyway again I wasn’t expecting one of her songs to end up being another absolute favourite song of mine that’s pretty high up on the list to boot, but she’s good. I love the backing melody and the lyrics and the leitmotifs that she does in all her albums.

4. Pseudologia Fantasica by Foster the People

Wow first mainstream artist xP My boyfriend showed me this album during a bad time and it’s one of the most solid albums I own, I even got it on vinyl. Two. Because both of them were scratched for some reason. This is my favourite from the album and again is one of my favourite songs of all time. Instrumentals are so good. I really like it on piano too. I don’t listen to this song much anymore though.

5. 마음 약해서 by Warak

Finishing this list with a really obscure song that happened on my Spotify and I really like it. It’s not a top ten or anything but it’s going here for fun. I really like the whole melody and strings and electric bits or whatever lol.

Also because it's an older song, the audio on headphones feel kinda mushy. I really wish there's a crisp HQ version!

the way rhythm of the claps in “explode” on soul punk matches the rhythm of the drums in “(coffee’s for closers)” EXACTLY haunts me. it haunts me. i dont know if it means anything specific because i can absolutely believe that that’s just indicative of how patrick writes (he writes like such a drummer oh my god) but the fact that they have such similar messages (feeling constrained by societal expectations, fighting helplessness that swarms into rage) and that they have that exact same beat...like i said. it Haunts Me.

i think a lot of people miss how fucking infectious and powerful the guitar riffs on “novocaine” are. fortunately, they come through VERY strongly live.

also shoutout to “uma thurman” live when the sampling of the munster’s theme is replaced by joe doing the licks live. that genuinely makes the whole song pop and makes it absolutely BANGING live.

whenever they play “disloyal order of water buffaloes” live patrick and pete stand next to each other when patrick sings “what a match, i’m half-doomed and you’re semi-sweet” and sometimes pete mouths the words alongside him and it undoes me a little bit every single time.

in general it’s just really really sweet to see all the guys still doing the same rituals the way they used to. patrick and pete still turn toward each other during “where is your boy” live but they don’t have to prop each other up for support anymore. they can stand on their own, but that doesnt mean they wont still pay tribute to all the times when they couldnt.

and on the flip side, the little choreography that only started coming to bear posthiatus, like the little guitar-off joe and patrick do during sugar. like that wasnt really there prehiatus, and now they do it every time and joe makes faces at patrick every time and patrick grins every time and it is honestly everything to me.

if you’ve never sat down and really listened to the drums in “20 dollar nosebleed” do that. please do that. like i said patrick writes like such a fucking drummer so he and andy have a lot of synchronicity and it really really shows when you pay attention to the percussion in any fob song.

the matching guitar lines in “champion” and “the last of the real ones” is like an inter-album call-and-response. if you’ve never listened to those songs back to back DO THAT cause it makes them feel like they sort of complete each other.

the way you can hear patrick whispering “spin for you” on “favorite record” after each verse. the mixing on abap is SO good just in general there is a lot of little subtleties that it takes several listens to really get

the “american beauty / american psycho” title track is criminally underrated ESPECIALLY live. the instrumentation alone is fucking hypnotic.

obviously the riffs on “a little less sixteen candles a little more touch me” are catchy as hell but the little sprinkling on top...like you can hear it on the instrumental during the chorus but its just a liiiiiittle extra riffage on top of what we already got and its delectable.

the studio chatter on pax am days deserves its own bullet point. i’ve talked about how pax am days is so so so good in general but the way you can hear the guys all laughing and cheering between every song. joe swearing OHHH SHITTY CRAP SHIT at the end of “hot to the touch, cold on the inside” like it just adds this warmth and intimacy without any of the polish you usually get. it softens me up every time.

“caffeine cold” is legitimately one of my favorite fob songs ever. the build. the pacing. the urgency. the whole way segue into the ending. the goddamn LYRICISM. don’t breathe life into a monster then complain when he destroys it all again. i’m not a monster. just really fucked up. i’ll see you in hell.

“alone together” live is a treat but i want to give special mention to the riffing joe does that brings it all together. all the guys have at some point referred to joe as the connective tissue of their songs, and the guy who works on the actual sonics of fall out boy the most. i think that really really comes through live especially. he’s not a flashy guitarist by nature but that is most certainly not a bad thing and his instrumentation is basically the texture we’re always hearing behind every song.

people give “immortals” a hard time as though it does not contain the line “sometimes the only payoff for having any faith / is when it gets tested again and again every day” and that’s criminal.

ive mentioned this before but “church” has a fantastic bassline and while im sad pete didnt play it live, its genuinely so fucking good how joe picked up the bassline and integrated it into his riffing when they played that song live on mania tour. probably im reading too deep into it, but i find it sweet, that level of trust and support theyll dedicate to each other in a live setting.

there’s a misconception i’ve seen floating around that the symphonic strings we hear at the beginning of “the phoenix” are samples but they are not! they were recorded by the london philharmonic orchestra specifically for the song, inspired by the fourth movement of dmitri shostakovich’s “leningrad” symphony.

it’s a goddamn shame they never released a studio acoustic version of “wilson (expensive mistakes)” because i genuinely really love the performances of it we got during mania era. all two of them sob.

in general i think people undersell the presence of guitars on fob songs a lot. the guitars are there - they just have effects all over them! just because something doesn’t contain an 80s riff doesnt make it not a guitar song. i’ve seen buzz around the possibility that fob’s next project will be guitar based because joe called it a “guitar album.” you know what he also called a guitar album? save rock and roll. don’t underestimate what these guys can do with just their instruments; young and menace was all done with guitars, bass, and drums, pitch-shifted to sound electronic.

one thing that really stays with me is the guy who did a breakdown for the raw multitracks of the 2019 “lake effect kid” release. like not only does it REALLY showcase how much instrumentation and layering goes into every song (THEY RECORDED ALL THIS SHIT IN ONE DAY), but the one thing that sticks with me the most is the moment about 10 minutes in where the guy just stops and goes “this is why these guys are so unexpected and cool.” and it’s because he notes in the mixing that andy is playing the tambourine in sync with the crash cymbals. this is something that’s found in metal, that you’d expect to find in metal, and here it is fitting snug in a pop rock song. i just. find it so indicative of who they are and where they come from, that andy still plays like a metal drummer and is still essential to a band that writes pop hits. it’s like no matter how far they’ve gone, their roots are still there for people willing to look. there’s some part of them that hasn’t forgotten where they came from. they play songs that end up on radio, but you can tell they came from hardcore if you know what to listen for.

(She’s so pretty ugh)

You looked at yourself in the mirror. You leaned forward making sure your makeup was all good and to check if your lipstick has smeared onto your face.

“Everything good, hun?” Your makeup artist, Perrie, chirped from behind you. You took a step back, getting one more look.

“Yes Ma’am.” You turned to her and she was holding up the familiar bottle of setting spray.

“One more spray for good measure.” She motioned for you to close your eyes and you did. You breathed in through your nose as you felt the vibrations of the arena. The mix of the music playing out on stage mixed with the cheering of your fans added to your adrenaline.

The tour was finally at Inglewood, California, the last stop of the Sweetener World Tour. You had been traveling around the world for the past 10 months, performing every night in a different country or state. As tiring as it sounded, you absolutely loved the experience. Not only were you traveling and seeing new places, you were meeting your fans from different countries and doing what you loved. After 101 shows and 3 tour legs, it was finally coming to an end. The ending of tour was always bittersweet. You’ve been traveling with multiple people and crew who have grown to be another family. You were going to miss them so much but it was time for you to go back home to your real family. Not only have you missed your parents and siblings, but you also needed the rest. 10 months of nonstop traveling definitely took a toll on you. But nonetheless, it was all worth it.

“All done!” You opened your eyes to see Perrie smiling at you.

“Thank you so much!” You pulled her into a hug as your eyes began to water. You groaned playfully and tilted your head back.

“I’m gonna miss you doing my makeup everyday. Ugh, I haven’t even gone out on stage yet and I’m crying already.” You laughed through tears as Perrie began to protest.

“(Y/n), I swear if you mess up your makeup, you’re never going to hear the end of it. Cry later!” She laughed as she tried to get you to stop the tears from falling.

She gripped onto your arms and yelled, “NO TEARS LEFT TO CRY REMEMBER?” You bursted out laughing at her reference. You waved your hands at your eyes and when they finally felt normal, you looked straight.

“Okok, I think I’m good.” You released a breath as you smiled sweetly at her, “I love you!” You giggled pulling her into another hug.

“I love you too, darling. Have fun out there, you’re going to do amazing like always.” She squeezed you tight before letting you go. Victoria, one of your dancers and friend, peaked her head into the room.

“You ready? They’re waiting for you in the circle.” She informed you holding a hand out. The circle was like a pre-show ritual you had backstage with all the dancers and crew. You took her hand as you all walked out the makeup room. Your heels clicked against the floors, echoing in the hallway. The closer you got to the stage the louder the fans got and the stronger the vibrations got.

The circle was already gathered with all the dancers and crew. When Scott, another one of your dancers and friend, noticed you he began to cheer. Everyone followed along as you entered the circle. You were tucked in between Scott and Brian, who were twins. The two have been your dancers since the beginning and still are how many years later. You were truly grateful for them and everyone who was included in your Sweetener family.

“Damn. Last show ya’ll!” You began causing them to all cheer. You waited till they quieted down, shyly laughing, before continuing.

“Um, I don’t wanna get all emotional and shit right before going on stage. I’m gonna look like a mess out there with my mascara running down my face. Perrie I’m sorry!” You laughed. “I just wanna say, thank you to every single one of y’all. You guys have been the most fucking amazing people to work with. You guys have been working day and night to make the show as spectacular as it is and I love you all so much. You guys are my family and I can’t wait to write another album so I can tour with y’all again. I just want to hug every single one of you, you guys mean so much to me. Like literally, from the bottom of my heart I love all of you so much. I know I’ve said that like multiple times, but I really mean it. Y’all are gonna get a fatass check after this.” You finished making everyone laughing again. By now a few tears have made its way down your face. You even saw a few people’s eyes well up.

You laughed as you heard a chorus of “I love yous” as everyone squeezed in for a group hug.

“Alright! That’s enough crying, let’s get this show on the road!” You cheered to help everyone from crying. Everyone moved out the circle and got into places.

Before you can get in place, Perrie pulled you aside to fix up your makeup. Your stylists began smoothing out your skirt and making sure your knee high boots were securely on. Next was to get your earpiece on while one of the stage hands gave you your mic. From backstage you could hear the intro to the concert playing causing the fans to scream louder.

You got into place as you got the signal to start singing. You sang the opening lyrics of Raindrops (An Angel Cried) and began to smile as your fans sang along.

The platform began to move up when you finished and the beat of God Is A Woman began to play. You were now on the stage, the sea of white lights looking back at you. The adrenaline was still running through your veins. You performed the song, acing every move of the dance you’ve learned 10 months ago.

When the last note of God Is A Woman played, all the lights turned off except for the red lights on the stage.

“INGLEWOOD!” You yelled into your mic, your fans cheering even louder than before. You shared an excited smile with Brian.

“Welcome to the Sweetener World Tour!” And with that the opening notes of Bad Idea began to play, the show finally kicking off.

You were in the middle of singing R.E.M which was part of Act 2 of the concert. You moved towards the pit to see familiar faces beaming up at you.

“Boy, you’re such a drea— oh my god!” You squealed as you saw the pit full of your Marvel cast mates. You saw all the Chris’, both of the Tom’s, Robert, Scarlett, Elizabeth, almost everyone you’ve worked with in Marvel was there. You got down to your knees to touch their outstretched hands.

The fans screamed as the camera from stage panned down to the pit where all the actors were. You took the mic away from your mouth and leaned down to them.

“What are you guys doing here?” You asked them through the loud arena.

Scarlett, Brie, and Lizzie were the nearest to the stage.

“We’re here to surprise you! It’s your last show and we wanted to be here for it!” Scarlett yelled over the track that was playing.

“We’ll catch up later, keep going!” Lizzie urged you to continue the concert with a toothy grin.

You held onto Brie’s hand as you sang to them, “Inglewood let me hear ya’ll! Excuse me um...”

“I LOVE YOU!” The fans sang back to you, including your cast mates. You dusted your knees off and continued to walk around the ramp. Before you could leave, you sent an excited wave to Brie and the rest of them.

~After the show~

You hopped off the platform that brought you down from the stage and were greeted by a bunch of congratulations and cheering. You and your dancers shared another group hug.

“(Y/N)!” You heard a familiar voice yell. You follow the voice and see Anthony waving at you with his infamous grin. He was accompanied by the rest of the cast behind him. You run towards them and jump into Anthony’s outstretched arms.

“I’m so sorry, I’m sweaty, but I’m so happy to see all of you!” You wrapped your arms around Anthony’s neck as he spun the two of you around. He let you go and you were suddenly being pulled into hugs by everyone.

When you got to Robert, a proud smile was on his face as he cradled your face, “Sweetheart, that was amazing. You’ve outdone yourself.” He pressed a fatherly kiss to your forehead and pulled you into a hug.

“Thank you.” You laughed, your eyes welling up with tears once again. Next was Chris (E) who playfully shoved Robert.

“Stop it, you’re hogging her! Let me hug (y/n)!” He childishly whined. He gasped when he saw your eyes watering.

“And you made her cry! C’mere.” His arms enveloped around you as he hugged you tightly.

In your ear his whispered, “You absolutely killed it.”

You thank him and move on to Scarlett who already had her arms out for you, “Surprise!”

“This was your idea?” You asked her as she hugged you. A cheeky grin quirked on her lips.

“Maybe” she teased dragging the ‘e’. You hugged her again as she laughed into your shoulder.

“Thank you, Scar. This means so much.”

“It’s not a problem, honey. We just wanted to see you together while you did your thing up on stage.”

You were now full on crying through a smile as your Marvel family showed you mass amounts of love. You stumbled into Tom (Holland) who instantly grabbed you into a bear hug. Tom’s actually seen your show in London with his friends and brothers, so this was his second time seeing you perform.

“You know what’s so crazy?” He asked you leaning down to your ear so you can hear him.

“What?”

“It’s literally just as great as it was in London. Like everything looks the same, you sound exactly the same, everything! The show was fantastic!” He looked at you with wide eyes with so much amazement on his face.

You laughed at him and patted his shoulder, “Thank you, Tom.”

Suddenly there was a commotion a few feet away from you. You saw Robert standing on one of the cases your crew used to store equipment in.

“ATTENTION EVERYONE!” When everyone backstage was looking at him Robert sent them a sweet smile and was handed a megaphone.

“Alright, so I gotta say, (y/n), you definitely know how to throw a show. Everyone who was part of this tour, your hard work pays off because that show was the most fun I’ve had in a while! (Y/n), you keep surprising us everyday with your talent and I hope you get to do more of what you love in the future. As my way of thanking you all for throwing such an amazing night, I want to take out every single one of you for dinner! I just rented out a whole restaurant just for all of us and I hope to see all of you there!” Robert said into the megaphone. A round of cheers and claps were heard from everyone at the announcement. As everyone began to file out, you were being called to get out of your costume.

Before you can turn to leave you hugged Robert and looked at all your cast mates who showed up for the night.

“Thank you guys for being here, it really means a lot.” You sniffled, wiping a tear from your face.

“And you, I can’t believe you rented out a restaurant for my crew, thank you Robert.” The older man just waves you off as he slung his arm around your shoulder.

“Not a problem, sweetheart. We wanted to be here and we are all so proud of you, you’ve come a long way, (y/n).” He gave your shoulders a squeeze.

“Now run along now, you still need to get changed and I’m starving. Go.” He teasingly turned you towards your stylists. You rolled your eyes as you waved at all of them.

“We’ll see you at the restaurant!” You heard Brie yell after you. You quickly turn back, “OK, I LOVE YOU!”

The further you got you heard Evans scream, “I LOVE YOU TOO!” You turned down the hall, your laugh echoing against its walls.

That was definitely one way to end a tour.

^ I actually did make an attempt at writing something like that, but god that's so much work lol. And I gotta make it sound fancy and then I gotta talk about the sound and the will-be-evidently-clear controversial nature of not only the performance on the stage, but then its even more blatant music video and yadda yadda yadda.

I'll just talk like me and not put more effort than i can actually give into it, but yeah, don't expect this for every fucking song

So anyhoo, today'd song is Oboro by Dir en Grey, which is my #1 song on spotify wrapped this year, so yeah, I'm excited about this one! BUT! Most likely this song's gonna ruffle some feathers cause I mean, the song's about stillbirth or abortion or something (my grasp of lyrics in general regardless of language is actually really shitty 'cause audio retention deficiency shit lol) and I really don't wanna deal with any possible fallback that might come from that so I wanna do my best to explain myself here.

So yeah, Dir en Grey and most likely both Sukekiyo and Petit Brabancon (I've only relatively recently got into them (2-4 years ago) compared to my listening to DeG since 2009) fucking relish controversy and can have some pretty disturbing shit in their... well, everything: lyrics, videos, performances, sound?, costumes. Is it all just there for shock factor? cheap thrills? "Look at this gross severed head I found" ? I mean, I'll be the last to deny that there's probably not a little bit of that in their motives. If you're a fan of DeG, you get to see a whole lot of fucked-up shit! I mean, in this video specifically you'll get to see a (fake) dead pregnant lady under Kyo's feet, scenes from the music video that include Kyo himself being born out of a very unfortunate lady, and the occasional entrail. But, despite all this, and only if you feel like you can handle it, I beg you to watch the video regardless. One thing that I love about Dir en Grey, and Kyo in particular, is just how real his emotions are, and how he manifests them through his art. He cries Real and Desperate tears right there in the middle of his singing. When he screams, you can feel within your own heart exactly where his pain is. You get exhausted watching him singing, because he demands you come and help him carry the emotional burden of his songs alongside him.

It's a heavy song, not necessarily in guitar riffs or harsh vocals (on the album version, at least. There are some in this live performance). If anything, it ranks amongst their quieter songs. It's heavy because it's a song of painful loss, of not being strong enough for someone who loves you, of begging for forgiveness, of the pain and acceptance of futility

This is a beautiful song. It is a part of my heart. Please love it alongside me.
