FYI to all the kids going off to college for the first time from someone who worked on campus as well as got two degrees.
1) Be nice to the advising center front desk staff, the admin desk staff, and the cafeteria staff at your favourite stations. Getting to know your profs is all well and good (and a good idea) but these are the people who can truly make your life miserable if they want to. I used to pick flowers and bring them to the grill station breakfast chef in the cafeteria and sometimes it is the only reason I ate before dinner because of my schedule v the open times. This small thing cost me nothing and gained me a lot.
2) Avoid 7 or 8AM courses unless you have no other choice (yes some colleges start class this early). Yes, waking up early is misery but it is often misery for your professors also, they are not inclined to be kind in the class either and your own morning misery may cause you to run your mouth and make an enemy.
3) Find out what the last day to switch from grade to credit/no credit is. If you find you are struggling with a class early or your professor is a stickler in ways that punish their students, it is often better to just take the credit than have it impact your GPA. If your uni offers this option it is often limited to a handful of classes so be careful about using it but *use it* if you need to. When I took Japanese, the only reason I passed 102 is because the prof knew I would sign up for 103 and she had a class minimum to meet to make sure it wouldn't be cancelled, but taking it c/nc meant I didn't have a D dragging down my GPA. I also wished I used it on a Biology general requirement class because even though I had the highest grade in the class, because the prof was a dick I still only had a C+. Again, highest grade in the class. It hurt my GPA horrifically and gave my advisor an excuse to try to tank my enrollment, which caused me a very brutal senior year.
4) If your advisor is a dick (and there are so, so many of them) request a change ASAP. They can do more damage to your time at college than you expect.
5) Get everything an administrative employee tells you in writing. I had my undergrad steal so much money from me because they told me and my parents that we could let it go or they could kick me out. When I went to school it was so much cheaper and thankfully my college fund covered the thousands they stole, but they still stole a couple quarters worth of tuition and admitted it in writing where they also admitted to refusing to fix it. It wasn't worth suing them then, tuition is pricey enough it is worth suing now. *This university has continued the practice now over twenty years later to the point they have a reputation for it.*

Week 2: The One Where UROP Students Remember Weâre Here to do More than Just Travel
This week marked the beginning of classes, research, and⌠well⌠actual responsibilities. Considering I just spent the past weekend living it up and galivanting in Amsterdam, I supposeee it's an acceptable time for some routine.
So what exactly does âroutineâ look like as part of the UROP program in Aachen? This is a question I personally wanted answered while applying, so hopefully this blog post can give you a good idea of what to expect!Â
Overall, each week involves two half days of German classes, three and a half full days of 9-5 research, and one half day for optional program activities (anything from hikes to lab tours).
Let's break that down shall weâŚ
German
Because the program does not require nor expect any German Language experience, most students are placed in UROP-specific courses that cater to this schedule and students of the program. For those of us who randomly decided to start taking German classes in college for the simple joy of flexing my 3rd grade-caliber German and a limited number of professionally relevant reasons, we were placed in actual university courses with RWTH-enrolled international students. Unfortunately, 1) this course started about two months before our program began and 2) the other students have been immersed in this language for far longer than the measly one week Iâve got under my belt. For these reasons, it's safe to say intimidation levels were pretty high.
After the class ended though, all the students offered to go to a cafe together. While there, our conversations flowed between spanish, italian, english, german, etc. each person having a way to understand and relate to another, if not by their home language than by the german weâd been learning in class. This unique dynamic really emphasized to me the power of language, and I am truly excited for the rest of where this course takes me.Â
Post German class cafe trip!
Research
You know how I said I was intimidated by German? That was nothing compared to how nervous I was to undertake this research project. Truthfully, before this week, I did not know much about my future work beyond the project description Iâd applied for back in January and the few emails Iâd exchanged with my Supervisor since. After my first meeting with him on Monday though, I already feel a bit more at ease. While each supervisor in this program is different, they all seem to be really laid back and eager to help you succeed.Â
As I mentioned in a previous post, my project focuses on a new method of building realistic user behavior datasets to train more robust intrusion detection systems. I will be working with expanding Selenium, an existing automation testing software, to accomplish this. Basically, I get to do a lot of programming for something really in line with my interests and I canât wait to see how it develops over these next two months.
Activities
Even with the new responsibilities, this program continues to emphasize travel at its heart. Each wednesday afternoon and weekend, there is a new trip planned for UROP students to get the most out of this experience and location.Â
Ultimately, if youâre looking for a program that lets you learn a new language, do cool, meaningful project work, and still get the whole âhot girl summerâ (ok admittedly so far more of a rainy, mid 60s girl summer but holding out hope for June/July) travel experience, I canât recommend Aachen and its program schedule highly enough.Â

How Do I Become a VFX Artist After My 12th Grade?
Have you ever wondered how the wizards on broomsticks in the Harry Potter films or the dragons spewing fire in the Game of Thrones series were created? What exactly is that green screen you frequently see in "behind-the-scenes" clips from practically all movies, but especially fantasy films? If that piques your interest, a career as a VFX artist might be for you. Making a decision about a career after the 12th grade can be very difficult, in part because there are so many options. Visual effects (VFX) is the industry for you if you're interested in a creative job or want to work in the movie business.
A vfx class in Pune teaches students how to manipulate images on the screen to create visual effects that cannot be captured in real life. A course in visual effects will train you to become an expert in the discipline. VFX, or visual effects, refers to the creation of visuals that are physically impossible to construct.
Let's look at everything you need to do to become a VFX artist now, shall we?
 1. Understand your characteristics:Â
The first step in choosing a career is determining whether your personality attributes match the demands of the position. The following qualities make someone a good VFX artist:
⢠Creativity â A creative mind is the most essential quality a VFX artist should possess. The first step to being an artist is imagination.
⢠Design talent â In this position, it's critical to have an eye for color combinations, a visual sense of what appears appealing on-screen, and attention to detail.
⢠A fundamental knowledge of physics and computers is required for VFX, which involves working with motion graphics, vectors, velocity, angles, lighting, and many other terms you might be familiar with from physics classes. A stronger foundation is produced by having a fundamental comprehension of these technical ideas.
⢠Teamwork â VFX is ultimately a team endeavor involving several people working on the same project. Being a team player and correctly coordinating with your coworkers and colleagues goes a long way.
⢠Meeting deadlines â The VFX industry often operates under a strict schedule, thus as a VFX Artist, you will constantly be required to do your assignments by the deadlines assigned to you.
 2. Enroll in a VFX program at a reputable institution:Â
You can enroll in one of the top VFX programs as soon as you finish your 12th grade year. Along with graduating, you can enroll in full-time certificate programs in visual effects.
 3. Hone your technical abilities:Â
This is the most crucial part of your quest. Make sure to learn these programs while you are taking a course:
 Adobe Photoshop
 Autodesk MAYAÂ
Adobe After EffectsÂ
HoudiniÂ
Adobe Premiere ProÂ
NukeÂ
ZBrushÂ
Mocha
For a VFX artist, knowing how to code can be a great asset. The most used language in VFX and gaming is python.
 4. While studying, take on independent tasks
To improve your chances of being hired by a premier VFX business, you must have a strong portfolio. You can create your own independent projects and work as a freelance VFX artist. They will help you develop your portfolio in addition to providing you with real-world experience.
The adaptability of this field is its greatest benefit. Whether you graduated from high school or dropped out of college doesn't matter if you have a passion for visual effects and computer graphics. Your skill set is the sole thing an employer would be considering. You will have a better chance of finding employment right away after successfully completing your degree if you receive placement assistance.

The AP Club: CAVAâs Scholars
by Peyton C.
AP Club Logo Created via Canva (Peyton C./The CAVA Voice)
CAVAâs AP Club currently has around forty members, operated and supervised by a yearly-elected council of six students. Each member belongs to or is interested in an Advanced Placement (AP for short) course offered at our school. The club gathers on the second Friday of each month at 12:15 P.M. and is open to any students interested in AP classes. At CAVA, there are around twelve AP classes offered to students so that they can have the opportunity to earn college credit. But while taking an AP class sounds easy to some, you should make sure you are a dedicated and responsible student before enrolling in one because AP classes require more engagement and have higher expectations than other courses.
Every single year in May, AP students who want college credit must take and pass an AP Exam for their specific AP class. A non-profit organization called the âCollege Boardâ provides and administers these exams for students. Students must pay a registration fee of $97 per exam, with a late fee of $40 for those who miss the November registration deadline. Although this may seem costly to most students, AP Club President Khadija C. offers advice for students worried about this issue. She says, âIf they're taking an exam that they feel they understand the concepts well and it would help them in the future for their career they should take it. However, if the subject of the exam is not their strong suit and it won't really help them if they get the credit for college then they shouldn't take the exam. Also if a student doesn't want to pay the late fee, they can wait till next year, study more and pay the fee on time and possibly get a better score. It all differs on the situation.â While the thought of taking these nearly three-hour exams seems scary to most students, the AP Club is there to provide answers and moral comfort for stressed students.Â
As I sat in on the AP Clubâs February meeting, I felt a sense of support and fun. Not only does the AP Club schedule virtual meetings every month, but theyâre now scheduling in-person outings for club members to have the chance to interact together without being behind a screen. This monthâs meeting was no exception, with students and teachers sitting together at a pizza parlor while listening to what was on the AP Clubâs agenda for February. One of the first orders of business was going over important study tips that would benefit members taking AP exams in May.Â
The clubâs elected Webmaster, Dean H., shared that websites like Khan Academy, YouTube, and Marco Learning are all great resources AP students can use for studying. Parliamentarian Juan D. then discussed the times for each upcoming AP exam so students could mark the dates on their calendars. After that, a music video about AP Economics class parodying Disneyâs âLet It Goâ was played for students. But the most intriguing aspect of this monthâs meeting was the clubâs guest speaker and one of CAVAâs various AP teachers, Mr. Luna.Â
As an 8-year teacher here at CAVA, Mr. Luna has had a lot of experience interacting and working with students virtually. He teaches two AP classes offered at our school, AP U.S. Government and AP Macroeconomics. Throughout the meeting, Mr. Luna discussed why students might want to consider taking these AP classes in the future. According to Mr. Luna, âIf you donât have an understanding of economics, your understanding of government is lacking because politics must always account for economics.â An example he gave of this idea included how taxpayer money funds both government and public programs. For this school year, the AP Club intends to bring more guest speakers like Mr. Luna to discuss the various AP courses offered at CAVA and how they will help students learn and prepare for life after high school.
Iâve been a member of our schoolâs AP Club since the 2021-2022 school year, and I donât know what I would do without it. Last year, I enrolled in my first AP class and was extremely nervous about it. But the tips and resources I obtained via the AP Club helped me pass the class and receive an excellent grade on my first-ever AP exam. I encourage every AP student or others wanting to take AP classes to join the AP Club. Not only will they provide you with a ton of support coming straight from fellow students, but you will gain knowledge that will stick with you forever.Â

Getting Your MBA Online
In recent years, online degree programs have skyrocketed in popularity. The convenience and lower cost of online education attract a sizable number of students each year. Â A distance MBAÂ is a great option for someone who wants to continue working while they earn their degree.
So, let's start from the beginning:
Students can complete an MBA program entirely online, saving both time and money. Students who either have to commute a long distance to campus or who have demanding work schedules can benefit greatly from this program. The curriculum of distance MBA programs is identical to that of regular MBA programs; the main difference is that students in distance MBA programs conduct their education primarily or entirely online.
Second, how does one go about completing an MBA program while working full-time?
An MBA can be earned online in a variety of formats. Find a school that provides the program you want and do the classes online. You also have the option of enrolling in ta program that has been approved by relevant accreditation agencies and then taking individual courses from various institutions to fulfill the degree requirements. The procedure is the same in either case. An application, academic transcripts, and references may be requested of you. If your application is accepted, you will be able to begin your studies immediately.
Thirdly, why would I want to get an MBA via distance learning?
Getting an MBA from home has several advantages. The most obvious perk is that you can get your education paid for while you work. So, you can keep your current job and advance your education simultaneously. It also means you won't have to uproot your life and move to a new place only to further your education.
The flexibility of a distance MBA program is another perk. As a result, you won't feel pressured to rush through the content to stay up with the rest of the class.
Last but not least, a distance MBA program might be a fantastic opportunity to expand one's professional circle. Having a larger professional network can open doors for you.
What is the average price of an online master's degree in business administration?
The annual tuition for an MBA degree might range from 1 lakh to 7.5 lacks if you want to take classes online. However, the total cost of an MBA will vary depending on several aspects, such as the institution's location, the duration of the program, and the concentration.
Hybrid programs mix online and on-campus instruction and meetings at some schools. The price of these courses is usually more than the price of the same course offered in an online-only format. Furthermore, many educational institutions provide discounts to students who enroll in multiple courses at once.
It's important to keep in mind that an MBA can be quite profitable despite the degree's high price tag. A recent study found that MBA graduates typically make 10 Lakhs per year, which is significantly higher than the average wage of those with merely a bachelor's degree.
Visit SimpliDistance for a Simple Online MBA Application Process

Put in the details there.
You need to be able to check off a few boxes before you can enroll in a distance MBA program. The first need is a bachelor's degree from a recognized university or college. To top it all off, you'll need a minimum of two years' worth of professional experience. You must also show that you have a good grasp of the English language. You may apply to a distance MBA program if you satisfy these conditions.

Life of a Paulinian College Student
When I first arrived in St. Paul back in August to enroll, I never really had big expectations of what my college experience would be like in this new school. There I was, transferring at 3rd year in college, where in fact I should have been graduating already. And so the several days that I was trying to finish enrolling myself and providing all the needed documents for transfer, I thought to myself âJust lay low, do my thing and letâs graduate without any hiccups this timeâ.Â
I thought classes started way too soon after that since it was the week right after the enrollment period but then again, who was I to complain. I got nothing else to do but study anyway, thatâs why I relocated here in Cagayan in the first place.Â
And so the first few weeks went by, I had trouble with some classes since some major subjects coincided with others and even schedules were being changed by the professors too. The first month went by and I was starting to settle down and get comfortable with the schedule, the night classes, the commute, the traffic, and the unhealthy amount of SPUP corndogs that Iâve consumed for that one month only. I was getting adjusted well in my opinion.
My classmates are a different thing though. The thing is, though Iâm in my 3rd year, I have a lot of backlog subjects for the 2nd year. Itâs because my previous school and SPUP had totally different curriculums so some of my units didnât get credited for my new curriculum resulting in me having to take a lot of minor subjects. Also, other than me transferring over, I actually technically shifted my course too because in my previous school I was taking Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and it turned out that St. Paul was only offering the Bachelor of Science strand. I, for one, am not even looking to shift to a whole different course and so I just decided to take this option and shift to BS Psychology. If I were to be frank, I really donât see myself taking a different path as Iâve already enveloped my learnings to my way of thinking and my perspective in life.Â
In that aspect, I was enrolled in multiple major subjects for BS Psychology students that I wouldnât have taken if I stayed with AB Psychology. And the most exciting part is that the head of the Psychology department, Maâam Anna Hernandez herself was the one teaching some of those major subjects. I thought to myself how amazing that is, to have an accomplished and distinguished professor for those heavy subjects. In addition, our Abnormal Psychology class was handled by someone that is both a registered nurse, psychometrician, psychologists, and a clinician in practice! I definitely made sure to listen attentively in our sessions because Sir Fabroa would sometimes drop some very informative and applicable bits of knowledge to us either from his practice or from his experience as a board exam student of many different courses. I would always jot down notes and keep it in mind especially some tricks Sir had told us on taking the board exams. I feel happy that I was able to meet and have such kinds of professors in this school!
Despite saying all that though, I cannot lie and say that I did not struggle academically. In all honesty, I was not used to taking the periodical exams like in Prelims, Midterm, Prefinal, and Finals. I got used to my previous schoolâs project-based type of exam where we either construct a paper or anything deliverable but rarely a printed exam. In SPUP I find that the usual type of exam here was standard multiple choice, identification, fill-in-the-blanks, and even enumeration. Iâm not saying every subject applied this to their exam style, but most of my subjects followed this way of measuring studentâs performance and comprehension of the academic topics discussed by the professors. To be quite frank, I found it difficult to adjust to. In essays and projects, I had all the freedom to showcase my knowledge of the subject topic. On second thought, am I only saying all this to rationalize the fact that I score average in my tests? Are my observations and reasoning because of unconsciously sour graping? Perhaps. Perhaps not. But one thing is for sure, I donât think the school would change the way they handle the academic policies and implementation just because some student posted about it on Tumblr. So, I guess I just gotta suck it up and get going huh? Anyways, I only have 3 semesters left before graduation. Hopefully I graduated without problems.Â
How is it like being a Paulinian student? Though Iâve been one for 5 months now, I donât think Iâve got the answer yet. Honestly, Iâve yet to fully open up to my classmates. I go to school when I have classes and when it ends, I go straight home. Iâve never really explored what Tuguegarao has to offer me, nor Cagayan in general. I think to grasp the meaning of being a Paulinian is to also take into perspective the vicinity of where St. Paul exists in the first place. The culture and tradition of Tuguegarao, Cagayan is what highlights the St. Paul value. This is because St. Paul consists of students, teachers, staff, administrators, and even visitors that embody the life of the place.Â
This is why I have made a decision for the upcoming semester instead. I wouldnât say that Iâve wasted my first semester by being reclusive, unsocial, and overall unwilling to open up and fully adjust to my new life here. This coming semester I plan to allot more time in school, staying in the library, eating in the cafeteria, hanging out in the Psychology Lab where all my fellow classmates hang out a lot in between classes, socialize more with my adings, take more pictures of the campus and actually, actually, nurture the thought inside my head that this is already my second home. My classmates and teachers are already my second family.Â
