hq ships as ballroom dances

hello welcome to my tedtalk. i now present to you popular hq ships and their probably preferred or most dynamic dance(s) or styles, as told by someone who has worked in a ballroom dance studio for several years. 

iwaoi: bachata (with hilarious tango additions)

bachata body rolls. there is untold power to be tapped here. i cannot overstate this. go google it please.

that cuban motion though??? HIPS!!!

okay, okay, i’m gonna tell everyone a hilarious secret about how to do a medio corte in tango: for the follower (usually the lady), you have to step directly in between the leader’s legs. we’re talking thighs tight together, and, as one of my coworkers put it, “like you’re trying to knee him in the balls”. the thing is, most followers are ladies, and most of them are shorter than the leader/man. 

i’m saying if oikawa is the follower and iwa-chan is the leader there is a Very Real possibility of oikawa not-so-accidentally kneeing iwa-chan in the crotch

asanoya: peabody (with hilarious quickstep thoughts)

BOUNCY ENERGETIC FUN!! 

most electroswing can be peabody and imo that only adds to the absolute fun it is

noya will 10000% gleefully dance to a song called “bootyswing”

i’m imagining them in a super fun 20s themed number not sorry

i also like to imagine noya dragging asahi into a quickstep but he would backlead SO BAD (quickstep’s a smooth/standard dance too so height differences make it....... interesting) 

i also like to imagine them sambaing but i’m sorry noya would be both... incredibly good and incredibly bad at it?? “NOYA PLEASE STOP BOUNCING SO MUCH” “but i have to be as tall as you asahi-san!!” “NO YOU DON’T” 

daisuga: club swing (with some groovy hustle bc it’s basically the same dance)

SHUT UP AND DANCE IS MY FAVE DAISUGA SONG NOT SORRY AT ALL 

they absolutely need something that’s like, sort of simple step-wise, but fun movements?? also ANY kind of swing/swing movements would be 100% daisuga literally fight me on this 

so hustle is just club swing with syncopation but like. GROOVY OLD MUSIC FOR THE OLD MARRIED COUPLE. actually i just adore them dancing to upbeat club music always. 

club swing is one of those dances that you can make ALL KINDS of shit up super easily and still be easily followed, too, and that kind of easy fun trust gives me a Feeling 

imo it’s the easiest fun dance and it’s impossible to dance without smiling because really silly/dumb twirls are standard. like, REALLY silly and dumb shit. 

bokuaka: jive (and also foxy FOR REASONS. sappy, sappy reasons) 

i had a very specific move in mind for choosing this but i can’t find it in gif form but it involves a lot of synchronized kicks

it’s suuuuuper energetic but highly matching (as opposed to complementary) and that gives me feelings

also lots of high kicks so they can both show off Those Thighs sorry

LIFTS!!!! SO MANY BODY SWINGS AND LIFTS AND HOLDS

foxy is basically high school dance swaying and. uh. my sappiness is showing but. i think it’s really really perfect for them. they’re totally capable of this high class, high energy, high sync dancing but they also just love this lowkey, tight hold, sway sway step type deal. it’s seriously just high school dancing.

yamatsukki: foxtrot (and salsa) 

this is definitely a case of “one character prefers x and the other prefers y”

that said their two dances are not a compromise, or something the other dislikes; it’s just a hilarious case of putting a smooth dancer and a rhythm dancer together and they have fun with it

they would have THE MOST BEAUTIFUL frame like oh my god. tsukki you tall noodle you are perfect for smooth and standard

that said watching tsukishima kei try to dance salsa is like watching a baby giraffe take its first steps. and shockingly he has FUN with it, mostly bc yamaguchi loves it so much it’s infectious

their dancing style is just. a mess. somehow, it works, because they complement each other so much

i’m in love with the both of them using those long legs for good in those big foxtrot steps though

ushiten: viennese waltz (and hell if i know this is already a clusterfuck)

okay listen. listen. there is a reason behind this weird ass choice and that is because it is the perfect mix of precision, control, and power and BUCKWILD MOVEMENT

viennese isn’t the slow, measured waltz that most people can immediately recognize; it is still graceful, fluid movements, but lots of twirling and FAST. nyoom

fun fact: you can viennese waltz to a lot of metal songs

shut up yes i do want ushijima in tails 

i want tendou’s weird bendiness to be used in something with a lot of twists and dips and this definitely fits that bill

to my absolute horror and sorrow, i cannot think of something that i like for kuroken, or a lot of other ships. that said, please fill my inbox with ballroom dance thoughts, and/or requests for other ships! i can definitely talk about dances and ships all day
