i think hybe definitely was shady for greenlighting illit's concept when it's clear there was inspiration from newjeans. i personally just assumed they discussed this with ador but i guess not?? so weird that they don't act like proper adults in that building. i'll also say that i don't think min heejin's concept for newjeans is original or considered "hers" but since most people associate that concept with newjeans, it's safe to say that illit's creative director probably got it from newjeans anyways. another thing about hybe tho is that i don't think they've been doing strong concepts for their groups. txt did have a strong one initially but bighit just stopped trying for them (probs bc their team got moved to source music 🥲) i think belift did a good job with keeping the vampire concept for enha consistent and i was initially scared that it would stop after hybe fully acquired cj enm, but i think they've recognized that enha just has too much connected to their vampire concept (their webtoon, storyline for their music videos) but enha's also been neglected by hybe a lot so screw them 🚶‍♂️

Txt cb rant: Marvel's Fantastic Five?

This txt comeback gotta be one of the most anticlimactic cbs I've ever witnessed. It was worse than when tbz released lipstick just after roar.

(disclaimer: I'm a txt fan and love the bsides but wtf is this tt?!)

First of all, the mv

Txt mvs always had this extensive story and symbolism, even gbgb was more meaningful than chasing that feeling. The mv looks like it was planned to be for the Weeknd but was last minute used for txt. The whack marvel CGI doesn't make it better. I feel like I'm watching a teaser for a marvel movie: The fantastic five.

The song itself

Once you listen to the English version, the Korean version starts to sound pretty bad. Often it works when songs are written in English and then translated to Korean. This time it clearly didn't work bcos this song just sounds a lot better in English.

I don't need to mention that it sounds like a the Weeknd song, but that's not even an issue in my eyes. My issue is that it somehow doesn't sound like txt. They always used different styles throughout all the albums but the songs all still sounded like txt. No matter if they were cheerful or dark, mysterious or dramatic, it all sounded like txt. Chasing that feeling just sounds as if they're covering another artist. I think all the bsides (minus DILT) sound very much like txt but the tt somehow ... not.

The golden thread

So far I always was able to connect the mvs with each other but this time it doesn't seem to have any content in the first place. It doesn't seem like I need to watch the mv in order to find any missing pieces from the lore. It appears like a 'filler' instead of an actual cb with plot. Chasing that feeling with THAT sort of mv is pre-release material and not a tt.

I surely do have my theories what this mv means in context of the narrative however it's just a horribly boring mv in my eyes.

The bitter aftertaste

When I listened to the album preview I knew growing pain would be a banger. It's a style that doesn't rly occur in kpop and it would have been a cultural reset (#overdramatic) if that had been the tt. The mv could have been insanely dope. I'm seeing a dark and gritty 'txt as a gang in a big city' -narrative, being chased by enemies and trying to survive. Could have been connected directly to gbgb jap. ver. Which literally would fit the overall lore. Bighit do u wanna hire me?

In conclusion: I don't hate the song. But I dislike the mv, and I dislike the missed potential of other tracks as tt. I think the song is solid (minus the chorus that falls flat in my eyes) but the combination of mv and song is just horrible in my eyes ...

The choir and the horror like harmonization that you mentioned sounds AMAZING. I think the most obvious answer to why they're like that is bcs of ***. Hybe simply wouldn't exist without them and the *** members literally have shares in the company too, so fans view any criticism of hybe as a criticism of ***, which isn't necessarily the case. On top of that, *** wouldn't be where they are without the fans so they also feel personally responsible for the growth of the company too (in a way, they kind of are) and so perhaps they also view criticism towards hybe as towards themselves too and they can't handle that.

Through the "underdog" narrative, hybe have been able to get people to root for them. The problem is they're not the underdogs anymore. Actually they've become everything they were against in the beginning. However, creating the blindly devoted unconditional fan unfortunately also discourages critical thinking skills too which makes the fans more likely to believe the narratives they're being fed without questioning them. They also have lowkey pushed the "not like other girls" narrative too which has resulted in this insane superiority complex amongst their fans. They genuinely believe all other kpop companies are bad except for hybe bcs they're the good guys. Hybe have successfully been able to make their fans wholeheartedly believe their "we're all in this together" rhetoric, whereas fans of other companies aren't really buying into that belief anymore. Comparatively, hybe is a new company. I feel with the other companies prev mentioned - sm, jyp, yg, cube, starship - they have all been around for years and kpop fans have seen them do a lot of incredibly awful and stupid things so fans don't have a connection with the companies anymore, bcs we see the reality. They're a business. They don't care about you or the artists. They just want profit.

Hybe fans are currently in a bubble but give it 10 years and that bubble will have burst and they will eventually see that reality too.

Yes, it's a business relationship, but it's one based on a long-standing closeness to those in charge of the business. They have personal connections to key people at BH and HYBE. Also, Tae has never said a bad word about BH/HYBE, he may complain about certain aspects, but he's never outright criticised the company.

As for HYBE, no-one puts them on a pedestal around here, but I make observations about them. Whilst profits are important to any company, HYBE but more so BigHit, because I need to make the distinction, are not the most terrible company in K-Pop, and generally, Lee Hyun, TXT, BTS Jo Kwon and the other members of 2am, have never saida disparaging word about BH.

This current ongoing bashing of HYBE se, I see them as pretty good company for their artists. No fans on the other hand is up for debate... I truly think this is where are of the HYBE hate comes from Fans getting shafted over various things that HYBE has done, but generally for their artists and in particular BTS they're relatively good. Additionally, HYBE now being a the bigger K-Pop company means that more people feel they can criticise them, when really there's sometimes no basis in fact from those criticisms.
