songs 4 the soul

So here’s something I’ve had on my mind for a min courtesy of an ask that @cmrnfry sent to @totallylegitakiraquotes: Akira character songs ! (sorry 2 piggyback of ur concept outta the blue but....it has haunted me ever since i saw it somewhere in the ether)

Tetsuo gives me strong “When I Was Done Dying” vibes by Dan Deacon, it’s chock full of manic energy and an unsettling yet captivating chaos that ultimately makes me feel some type a (SAD) way. I think it p well encapsulates the unimaginable, nonsensical transformation of Tetsuo, both physically and mentally, especially towards the end of his journey :( “Song 2″ by Blur also makes me think of Tetsuo...R.I.P. forehead boi.

Kaneda is so “Animal Keeper” or “Manic Machine” by George Barnett! He’s such a goofy, happy go lucky kinda guy (at first lol always easier to hide pain behind a smile) but I can never chase the idea of his undercurrent of Edginess™ just adding to his overall boyish charm instead of like actually making him seem more badass or anything?? ...like come on that boy is a jock at heart. watch Manic Machine and you’ll see what I’m trynna convey here hahah. This song is more of a joke tbh but “Therapy” by All Time Low...Kaneda could us some of that. 

Kei makes me think of Allie X’s fuckin banger of a song “Bitch” but like in an ultra empowering, kinda sad and melancholy way. she is obv the most mature and competent character in the whole series (yea i said it) like where would Kaneda be without her ?? prolly dead like five times over (yea i said that too!) which is why the song makes me think more specifically of the romantic relationship between Kei and Kaneda too (kinda toxic, kinda unfulfilling, but kinda addicting to the both of em yikes. always thought they’d make better friends tbh). Another song that reminds me of Kei is “I Eat Boys Like You For Breakfast” by Ida Maria because she’s just that kinda gal, you know? 

Yamagata ! def associate him with anything by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, but it’s a toss up between specifics like “Rifles” or  “Beat The Devil’s Tattoo”. Something about him has always seemed very somber and secure to me, a serious, let’s-get-down-to-business kinda guy. His name literally means mountain man ! Grounded, rooted deeply in the earth, immovable ! Out of all the Capsule members, he’s the one who really fits the description of Badass Biker Boy that B.R.M.C exudes imo, def served as Kaneda’s right hand for a reason. 

Kaisuke the angel bless his sweet soul makes me think of “Dread In My Heart”  or “Waiting For The World To End” by Mother Mother. He’s such a sensible lil bean, very emotive and sympathetic too, which makes me think that he would be insecure of his soft heart and often feel not quite cowardly, but simply not as brave and strong as his Capsule brothers. kinda side note but i will ALWAYS love his color scheme, a true fashun icon.
