I think Dabi is like... tumblr sexyman adjecent? Like he ticks MOST of the boxes of a tumblr sexyman. Morally grey, unhinged, ungodly amounts of thirst about him on tumblr, obviously. But he's just too much of a twink to be a full tumblr sexyman. He's too pretty. The same way dean winchester or david tennant's doctor can't be tumblr sexymen cause they are just too attractive.

The thirst towards a tumblr sexyman should be met with bafflement and confusion. (I know loki is also a twink and a tumblr sexyman but he's the one exception, okay? My Roman Empire is Normaler. I'm serious. I think about them all day long, anytime, anywhere. Like will they ever be canon? Will Illumination ever confirm this? Is it true that there is a deleted scene with young Norma and Onceler? Did the creators plan to make them a couple but gave up on the idea? Did the creators deliberately create so many elements to confirm this theory so that we could guess it ourselves? Why does Norma know so much about Onceler? The creators did it on purpose or just made her an all-knowing character? Why do other characters (not all) look different and Ted looks like a young Onceler? Did the creators do this again on purpose or by accident? Bernice/Helen doesn't have a father specifically in the film or is it because the creators suggest something to us? What would happen if they ever confirmed this ship? So many questions, few answers. Illumination, give us a sign. We just want Normaler, come on.

i should preface this by saying that i dont think shes like. a bad person. and i dont have some secret knowledge of problematique things shes done that we should all Cancel her for.

tl;dr i just think her videos are really bad. she keeps making videos about stuff that i was there for and then being wrong about them, and it drives me crazy. on top of that, it just rubs me the wrong way to make your whole brand "the lady who talks about tumblr"

like, i think her homestuck video sucks (and i think its very funny that she admitted that she only spent a week making it, but ALSO got really defensive when people said she was wrong about stuff. like, i think the way whatpumpkin and andrew hussie responded to her video was Bad but also that doesnt retroactively defend the original video from being poorly researched and, in my opinion, in bad taste. it was weird to make a video where you talk about all the controversy about hs^2 not that long after the whole project got cancelled because too many of the trans women working on it were receiving daily death threats)

and i think the mcelroys video sucks (that was the last one i watched before i gave up entirely. its really long and very boring, and basically is just her listing a bunch of stuff they did that people had problems with, which essentially puts "travis was annoying on twitch" on the same level of seriousness as "taz: graduation used a lot of harmful native american stereotypes". i genuinely am not sure what the point of this video was supposed to be, because it feels like its her reading a tumblr callout post. also she was wrong about taz: amnesty. the ending WAS foreshadowed, it did NOT come out of nowhere, she just wasnt paying attention.)

but the onceler fandom video is honestly the absolute pits. i am still friends with a lot of the people that i was in the onceler fandom with, and i genuinely havent met a single former onceslut who thought her video was good, or the least bit accurate. her thesis basically boils down to that the onceler fandom was just a bunch of young teen girls projecting fantasies onto a nonthreating decently attractive fictional guy, which isnt that weird and people are only making a big thing about it because they hate teenage girls. and her conclusions arent WRONG, per say, since people DO hate teen girls and this is a thing theyre known to do... its just. thats literally not what the onceler fandom was at all?? first off, when i got into it i was 17 and i was the youngest person i knew by far. almost everyone i saw in the fandom were in their 20s, and a lot of them were not girls at all. and as far as any of US remember, the thing sustained the fandom wasnt 13 year old girls exploring their nascent sexualities, it was people using the barest pretense to make OCs, and then craft stories with and about their friends OCs. it was a really cool unique experience because it was a fandom for the things the fandom built. a lot of the people i knew had never watched the movie The Lorax at all, or didnt really care about it one way or another, but DID get really invested in the dynamic between Swag and One, or got really invested in the two big AUs the fandom had. By the time i got there, most people had kinda moved away from the canon onceler anyway, and were focused almost exclusively on the AUs (there was a high school AU and a zombie apocalypse AU, and then during the summer the high school AU blogs would do a child summer camp AU. i liked the zombie one best because i love melodrama, but the high school one was most popular). i know she was IN the onceler fandom (allegedly...) but as far as i can tell, she was just there at the very start, because it changed WILDLY even just a few months after its inception. and there's no way anyone who saw the fandom that I was actually in would make the sweeping statements about it that she did.

broadly, her videos are too unfocused and not really well-written. her one on Oppa Homeless Style was a genuinely good video!! I know she CAN do good videos!! But so many of her more fandom-focused videos dont really seem to have a thesis beyond "this happened" or maybe even "this was kinda weird right?". like what is the viewer supposed to take away from the video about the mcleroys? that they made a podcast that was really popular and then got less popular? why did that take you TWO HOURS to say? and even when she does have a strong thesis, its always muddied by the fact that she feels compelled to add in really long, boring digressions. I think the video about All or Nothing was good, and made an interesting point about how pan and ace people are really starved for meaningful rep, but i dont understand why she felt compelled to recount the entire plot of the webseries someone made? what did that contribute to the thesis? its like shes reading a wikipedia page, and not like. an actual ESSAY. that someone structured to convey a POINT.

but overall i just take umbrage with her whole "tumblr historian" shtick. i think its kind of gross to put really niche (generally woman-dominated) subcultures on display so people can come gawk at the freaks. ive heard the defense that "she IS a fandom person!! these videos are FOR fandom people!!" but 1. if its supposedly supposed to be for me and NOT an audience of people unfamiliar with the thing shes talking about, then there would be no need to spend so long explaining what everything is, and 2. i can at least say, in my own subjective experience, that i said basically all this to my sister, who told me that thats why she likes sarah z at all, because the videos let her come gawk at all the fandom freaks on tumblr. so its cool that sarah z is giving the person who bullied me my whole life (specifically because the way i engaged with media was too cringe) more reasons to bully me for being cringe. big preesh sarah. glad youre making money off of the free content all of us put out, and even more glad that youre profiting by taking all that free content and presenting it to a largely hostile and judgemental audience who already thinks im a fucking idiot. why dont you make a video about my popular hamlet post next, since you seem to make videos exclusively about things i did.

anyway if i want to watch video essays about fandom, i'll watch princess weekes, whose videos are substantive and not... idk very juvenile. not that i think there cant be more than one youtuber talking about fandom!!! its just that sarah z's videos are mid at best and actively bad at worst, so im not gonna bother.

for numerous reasons! which could easily be bogged down to mental health reasons so uhhh essentially

1) Onceler fandom just has not been good for my mental health at fucking all, I think it's pretty telling since I've been trying to dissociate myself from the fandon in small ways (although I guess I'm still in it?)(not in the fandom or left it, just a secret third thing)

like I'll still reblog some Onceler stuff, draw Onceler stuff (just the OCs I don't care about Canon Oncie and hate the original movie), keep up with shit like Trufflu and Weehawken etc. but yeah I just don't really consider myself to be a Onceling at all anymore

2) I felt bogged down and chained up when trying to write for him since he's a Onceler?? IDK I just felt like I didn't have the complete creative freedom I want + need for OCs so he's getting deoncelerized and becoming a regular ass OC (already even has a new design)

everything is also just outdated and not relevant to his new lore

3) got too popular... kinda stupid reason probably but 500+ followers for an OC ask blog is fucking terrifying and I'm not really sure how to explain why it sucks so much fucking balls in my POV, having 80+ asks in your inbox at all times is just exhausting man

I think there's been a few fandom headcanons that have mistakenly been posted on wikis and tvtropes as canon, and I really wish it didn't happen that way, because I don't like misinformation being spread. I think in the early years of the fandom I drew it because it was popular, but since then I've been more true to myself and I only draw what my heart desires now. So now I can say that I've never shipped oncest, though I've shipped onceler askblogs together before. And I'll always be a fan of 7212, though that's not the classic oncest we're referring to here. But I still support whoever does ship it, I think that's totally cool!

Nothing with mainverse Cupid will be canon mostly due to the fact that he is aroace, but I don’t mind ppl shipping him! I know some of yall ship him with Hobo and I will sometimes entertain stuff like that on the blog but, again, it will never actually be canon. 

Pinkcest is fine lol. I sometimes draw Main Pink x Powder, but if ya wanna ship Pink x TFlu Pink or TFlu Pink x Powder that’s chill too.

I personally don’t vibe with Cupidcest for a few reasons, but do it if you want I guess (I’d rather you didnt)

Do NOT ship highshcool au Cupid and Valentine (Eros and Father Evangeline) first of all Eros in that au is a minor and Evangeline is a teacher, and secondly they’re legit related in that AU

Ohhh hoh, boy! A jubilant "Howdy, Neighbor" to you indeed!

I have an OOC happy moment for everyone!

I don't know how many people will remember me saying waaaaaay back in the early days of the AU that once the actual plot started going, I would take some time to clarify up some character stuff as well as list general trigger warnings and things of that nature! Well guess what! Today, that day has come! It is finally time!

Since the journey of the Once-ler fandom began on Tumblr, I thought it only appropriate his journey began similarly! Right here on Tumblr! Now it is going to branch off yet again to another platform that I'm sure many of you around these parts are familiar with; Archive of Our Own (aka ao3)! If this worries you because of website security, fret not! I will not be typing and uploading directly to ao3. The lore will be backed up and safe!

Now, what is it exactly that is getting posted there? Well, let me tell you! It is what I am calling "The Deep Lore"! It is lore that is extremely significant to not just what is happening in the AU, but what happened to Penny before it all took place. What's fun about it is you don't need to know it in order to enjoy the AU! So if you miss it, you'll still have fun :)

The Deep Lore is going to be basically 100% of Penny's pre AU lore; who she was, what she was up to, how she came to the universe she made, all that juicy stuff. Not much of it will directly have to do with MO!Wally (Mister Onceler Wally in case anyone has missed that up to now), but it will fluff the horror elements of the story to read what gets uploaded there. There will be no illustrations in it at all (most likely), and that is a symbolic choice! One which I will let you chew on and think about!

Now on to the next thing!! I wanna clear up the narrative tone for you. I know its been confusing, and that has been on purpose! It will probably not become less confusing! Sorry! Mystery and obfuscation are kinda the names of the game, Neighbor! 💚🤭

Okay! So! From here on out, a completely OOC moment from me, the runner of the accounts and maker of the characters is going to be indicated by ((double parenthesis))! Sometimes, the characters might refer to me as "The Narrator," but if they do, it will probably just be for memes or whatever silly shit. It wouldn't be a canon thing. That leads to Penny!

Without spoilers, who is she in the story? Who/what is she to me? How do I feel about her? I will tell you!

Penny is The Artist. Her name is Penelope Jane Parsnip, and she prefers to just be called Penny. She is The Artist for the Biggering AU of Welcome Home! She is from our world and finds her way into the AU she made through means that you will read about on ao3. She has access to our internet, and that includes when she is outside of her reality! That is how she is posting about the AU; she is using human world internet that she can access from the AU via her smart divices that come from reality!

What is Penny to me, the actual Penny?

I'm not sure what the label for her is, but! I can explain her, I think! She started as simply the way I represented myself to the audience when I needed to speak for whatever reason. She was aesthetically based on me save for the fact i gave her a different eye color from me because she's a cartoon (I do actually have heterochromia like she does, though! That is true about me, haha! ). She had my personality because she was essentially just a mouthpiece for me! I thought of her and designing her as quite literally making a digital muppet of myself, and nothing really more than that.

But then it occured to me as I wrote more and fleshed out more details.. if I am going to write a character like Onceler Wally, who has no regard for the 4th wall whatsoever and understands what he is.. he would totally want to know the one who made the world he's in. So then Penny started to become less of me (the person) and more of her own character. But by the time I had these realizations, she had already been represented several times, and it was too late to change it! So I just took the personal L's about that, lol! I have let her go, despite the fact that she is a character based very directly on myself. She's her own gal now as far as I am concerned. I will still use her to represent myself, of course, because she does look like me, haha! But I don't have the emotional attachment to her to call her a self insert/ sona or anything like that. I'm not really sure what she counts as now. She exists sort of by accident, lol!

The tone from here on with all this in mind:

alright, so I'm not the first person to make a t7mblr sexyman RTC AU but I really like this idea that I came up with (also thanks to @mountain-dew-tickledpink for helping me fill some of the roles

So Bill Cipher is gonna be Karnak, that feels pretty obvious, but I thought it would be funny if Cecil Gershwin Palmer was Virgil, and he's just like, holding Bill at memory-erasing gunpoint (like the one that was used to defeat him in the finale).

Obviously, the onceler is Ocean, he's the first thing anyone thinks of when they hear the phrase "tumblr sexyman" and he's got a huge thneed empire, of course he'd be the most successful boy in town, but he is also very entitled, much like Ocean, while still having room for redemption, so obviously he's the perfect fit

Next up, Alastor from Hazbin Hotel as Noel. This might seem like a bit of an odd choice, especially since he's supposed to be the most romantic boy in town but he's canonically AroAce, but being "romantic" doesn't necessarily mean romantic relationships, it could be about romanticizing ideas. So in this AU, Alastor is not a serial killer, but he's so bored with his life that he dreams of being one from the thirties, kinda like Monique Gibeau but minus the hooker part and his fantasy self would probably still keep the same name as he has, Alastor definitely has the dramatic flare and love of tragedy needed to make him fit as Noel

Dabi will be Mischa because well, his dad is Enji Todoroki, OFC he'd be the angriest boy in town. I haven't decided if he's still in the League of villains in this AU or if Mischa's rap career has fully replaced that, or maybe the League all decided to make a shared SoundCloud account lmao, also yes, Hawks will be the stand-in for Talia in this AU

I was really stumped on who Ricky would be but I decided on Wally Darling because he's always painting and I think he leads a cult or whatever (I don't know Jack shit about the Welcome Home ARG so correct me if I'm wrong) which I guess, could be like, his equivalent of Zolar? I even found a reason for him to be on crutches, because he's a puppet and has no bones (Don't ask how he would still be able to die in the roller coaster accident, maybe he got impaled by a piece of the track or something?)

I've decided to make Jack Frost from Rise Of The Gaurdians be the John Doebfor this AU, since he doesn't have very over-exaggerated proportions, it would be hard to identify him without his head, plus he apparently already canonically died and lost all of his memories, so there's another parallel to Jane, not to mention he's kinda the youngest person here. As for what he would replace his head with, I was originally going to make it a rabbit or white tiger plushie that he won at the fair, and I'm still gonna roll with that, but now I wanna change it from a tiger to a snow leopard, because themeing. Also, the Little Sister who he apparently died protecting from the cold in canon, would make a great parallel to Ezra

Lastly, Luigi Mario as Constance Blackwood because he just fits, I don't think I really need to explain much more than that

in the mood to post random dreampop facts instead of actually using his supposed askblog so anyway:

- his birthday is 5th Feb (there is an extremely long backstory to this but it's technically nothing to do with him so whatever)

- he's 6'4" (which I guess is average Onceler height but still)

- his favourite key is E flat

- I accidentally made him really ADD-coded while rping him in Camp Weehawken bc I don't know how people without it are supposed to act, but anyway he's now canonically got undiagnosed ADD (and also synesthesia)

- his first record was So Tonight That I Might See by Mazzy Star, which he bought in a charity shop when he was 13 just bc he liked the album cover but then it Changed His Life

- his favourite artists are Requin Chagrin, Wolf Alice, Lush, Alvvays and Mazzy Star (and many more but they're like his Top Five)

- when he's a teenager he refuses to listen to anything else but dream pop and shoegaze, but when he's an adult he'll listen to absolutely anything (can't be a famous music icon without a diverse taste in music)

- (but dream pop will always be his favourite genre <3 or else he'd have to change his nickname)

- he's 20 when he goes on his whole truffula tree search but doesn't become successful until he's 22

- he never chops down a single tree because he thinks 'Maybe they'll all run out someday. That won't be good' so he only takes the tufts, thinking he's doing a good thing. But then he still ends up indirectly killing all the plants and everything else bc

Honestly, my experience in the onceler fandom is somewhat good! I don't interact very much with it in general but I've found myself in a pretty good corner of the fandom that's nice and supporting. It has helped me improve in art a lot and more stuff..im only interested in the canon version of him (no oncest, askblogs etc.) And it's going well. Its fun, I've met the nicest people and i guess that was also a bit of luck haha. Personally I like to draw the onceler, simply because he's a fun character, and I love to explore the possibilities the movie could have had in it.

I'd say the bad parts of being in it (considering my personal experience)..are the overused jokes about the past of the fandom, and people that see the onceler as 100% innocent make me uncomfortable lol.

Other than that, I see the current fandom as people who are just enjoying a movie and a character they like, like every other fandom does. No problem!

Of course everyone has their own experience, and I'm sorry if anyone got a bad one. Hope everyone is doing well now, no matter what! Just remember to have fun. ❤️
