#i got to these insights via discussing sylvie always being given a lower social status that isn't low *enough* to fit her feral backstory

the two extremes of loki fanfiction:
fetishising his social status and making him the Hot CEO (lolwhut) in a story, often with a frankly bizarre habit of casting characters of equal status (Thor & Sylvie, for instance) into lower class positions because... reasons? This is a bit more justifiable for Sylvie except most of these things don't make her homeless or genuinely living in a precarious situation, they make her lower middle class at 'worst' and also we'll all just ignore that she's otherwise literally a princess.
everyone treating him like he is unimportant and lacking in influence and can be casually picked on by basically anyone, like he can't just have the W4 flogged if they get too annoying. i would put this one down to focussing too much on Loki's view of things in the first Thor movie, which is that if you're not the heir to the throne you don't matter, which misses the fact that this is a very blinkered view and objectively wrong. this lad is pretty much guaranteed (unless he were to somehow fuck it all up...) to only increase in power and influence over time. fandom treating him like a poor little match-child with his face pressed sadly to the glass, staring in at the warmth of a fire when he cannot afford even a single lump of coal, is fucking baffling to me.
#scalding take: the w4 are probably annoyed that both thor and loki got away with pretty much anything growing up.#i think loki being SHOCKED by thor getting banished owes a lot to neither of them having to face real consequences most of the time.#“what do you mean we can't just go off on a murder-spree for the fun of it? it wasn't even in asgard this time!”#i got to these insights via discussing sylvie always being given a lower social status that isn't low *enough* to fit her feral backstory#so don't blame me blame all those fics where sylvie is 'only' middle class and we're to pretend that makes sense somehow.
