Exodus 10:1-12:13, Matthew 20:1-28, Psalms 25:1-15, Proverbs 6:6-11
Today is the 30th day of January, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian it's great to be here with you today on the eve of the last day of the first month of the new decade 2020. Itās great to be here with you today to take that next step forward. And in the book of Exodus, which is what we have settled into there is a showdown happening between God the most-high, andā¦and the Pharaoh of Egypt. And the battle is over God's people who have been enslaved in Egypt. He wants them out and Pharaoh who thinks he's a God himself isn't having any of it, but he's learning some pretty hard lessons in the process. So, weāre reading from the Evangelical Heritage Version this week. Exodus chapter 10 verse 1 through 12 verse 13.
Commentary:
Okay. In the book of Matthew Jesus continues to talk and reveal the kingdom of God. His ministry is centered around this revelation and the interesting thing about the revelation is that it is a different kind of kingdom than anyone is expecting. They are expecting a kingdom that is rooted in the physical world that can be experienced by the senses, right? One in which a great battle and great destruction and lots of blood of the enemies is involved. And Jesus is indeed announcing the kingdom of heaven, but it's not that. It's a totally different thing than that. It's something that is happening now if we have eyes to see and ears to hear. And, so, Jesus gave us another piece of what that looks like today. And, so, He tells a story as He's prone to do as we've already explored. āIndeed, the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard.ā That's how Jesus began, and He tells a story of how He hired some workers in the morning and a then, you know, He hired some workers midday and after launch and in the afternoon and getting toward the end of the day with only one hour left to work He hired more workers and they all went into the field. And, so, when everybody lines up to get paid, He starts with the people who got in last and he gives them a denarius, a day's wage, the agreed-upon days wage from the people who started first. And, so, when He gets to the people that had worked all day, theyāre obviously expecting maybe something a little more than what they had agreed to. But at the end of it He gives them what they agreed to, like everybody got the same, everybody got paid. Of course, this angered the ones who felt as if they deserved more. They had agreed to the terms and they were given exactly what they had agreed to but as they compared themselves to others, they got a sense of entitlement that made them feel as if they deserved more. And the response of the master says it all. āAre you envious because I am generous? In the same way the last will be first and the first last.ā So, what can we glean here about God's kingdom from what Jesus is saying? We can say that those who believe that they are owed something or deserve something from God because they have earned somehow something from God will get what they deserved and get it last. Those who realize that they are unspeakably fortunate just to be here at all can appreciate the value of what they've been given. Everyone gets the same. Nobody's better. Nobody deserves more. Nobody deserves more spotlight. And why would this be? Because weāre one body with one head. Nobody can say to anybody else, āI don't need you.ā That's not true. God's kingdom is not a kingdom of comparison and selfishness. And as we explore this kingdom that we are a part of and that is happening through the lips of Jesus we are being awakened. We are learning. We are becoming aware. But we can see that Jesus disciples were not completely aware either. After this Story takes place, Jesus is continuing his journey to Jerusalem and this isnāthat t for a visit, thisā¦this isā¦this is Jesus going to die. And, so, He pulls His disciples together on this walk and tells them that He's going to die, that He's going to be arrested and turned over to the Gentiles and killed and that He's gonna come back. And, I mean, just imagine that you had that kind of foreknowledge about your own life. Imagine you knew thatā¦that youāre gona die in a couple of days and youāre trying to kind of comfort everybody and share things. And, so, you say what youāve gotta say and then a couple of your kids come to you and say, āhey since youāre gonna die can I have your car?ā I mean that would be like so out of place, so bizarre. And yet thatās essentially what happened to Jesus. Heās telling His friends, āI'm gonna die.ā And He unpacks all of that and then they keep walking and two of Jesus disciples and their mom come home to talk to Jesus and the momā¦itās the mom, she'sā¦she's doing the requesting. Promise that in your kingdom these two sons of mine may sit one on your right hand and one on your left-hand. So, Iām not pointing out that piece of the story to bring us to some kind of application to our lives or some ways to think about this, I'm just pointing out the disconnect. Here we have the son of the living most-high God on planet Earth operating in a kingdom that is being revealed and living a life after a human fashion but completely whole and He's unpacking all of these parables, He's teaching privately of the kingdom. And now they're on their way to His death and this is how disconnected it is, āpromise that I get a throne next to your throne. And we can often find that that'sā¦that's really the motives, that's really what we're after is what we want. Like, weāreā¦weāre in this whole faith thing to get blessed, like to get stuff but if Jesus hasn'tā¦Jesus hasn't made it clear enough yet, God's kingdom isnāt a kingdom of stuff. And we can be just as oblivious as Zebedee's sons sometimes.
Prayer:
Father we thank You for Your word, we thank You for another day to be in Your word, we thank You for what Your word is revealing to us and we thank You that as we do this day by day over and over coming back day after day, changes are happening within us and we are so open to it, we welcome it. We invite You fully to lead us into all truth. Come, Holy Spirit we pray in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:
Hi, DABbers Iām calling in to ask for your prayers. At this point I donāt even know what to pray for anymore. The reasoning behind why I need prayers is so complicated. Iām so lost I donāt know whatās the right thing to do or whatās the way forward but essentially I pray that God will hear me and He will come to me and show Himself to me and point me in the right direction because thatās the thing I need the most right now. A guy who I was seeing for a while, we were in a relationship. We broke up about seven months agoā¦about seven or eightā¦about eight months ago right now at this point and at the time of our breakup I didnāt realize that I was not okay with it. I just accepted it and I thought that it would be for the best but seven months laterā¦eight months later I still found myself unable to move on and I just donāt know what to do. Every waking day and moment of my lifeā¦itās just so painful and everything is just a reminder of him and the relationship we had. And the reason why itās all the more complicated is because he actually started dating somebody else about three months ago. So, I donāt know what to do. Please pray for me.
Good morning Daily Audio Bible family this is Praying for my Unsaved family and it is the 23rd of January. I just wanted to thank Brian for his __ on Joseph on the 21st of January. I found it so helpful when you were talking about taking the long view and what weāre wallowing in right now is temporary. It was so encouraging. Thank you, Brian. I really needed to hear that as I work through some family issues that have brought me very low in the last couple of years. So, thank you. I also want to say thank you to Denise who called into the community prayer line on 11th of January at about one hour 47 minutes and she was talking about praying for her unsaved father and never giving up. And it really struck me at the end of your message Denise that when you said the gates of hell cannot resist us. Thank you for your encouragement because again, I pray constantly for my father who is in his late 80s now and not in the best of health and someone whoās hated Christians and Christianity most of his life. So, please family join me in praying for my dad. His name is Ivor IVOR and I would be very grateful for your prayers. Thank you all for such a wonderful podcast and thank you for all your encouragements. Thank you.
Hi Daily Audio Bible family this is Harold in St. Louis and I am the one who is running the Chicago Marathon. Today is January the 21st. It is about 5:30 PM. I am in the middle of Tower Grove Park right now. I just ran 2 Ā½ miles roughly according to my Garmin watch. The temperature is 17Ā° outside. I am a day off, so I was listening to the 20thās podcast because Monday I went and ran with some friends of mine. And as I got to around the 40sā¦40-ish minute mark there was a lady who was just welcoming me to this family. The next message came from a lady named Karen who also just welcomed me to this family toā¦to be with you guys and she gave me the Scripture first Corinthians, I believe it was nine. Iāve got the podcast actually stopped right now so when I get back, I can go and write this down somewhere. But I just wanted to say thank you because I am out here right now, itās dark, itās cold putting these miles in and Iāve found myself while Iām doing this, Iāll hear different folks out there like Terry the Trucker who Iāll say a prayer for while heās actually praying and I donāt know if God answers my prayer because I still havenāt given myself over or thereās a couple in Illinois, Kingdom Seeker I believe and his voice is wonderful it makes me happy when I hear a song from him. Or even for Anonymous when I just hear someone else prayer for her and I just say, you know, Amen or yes Lord while Iām running and Iām finding it that I am crying and even now and crying and I have goosebumps on my arms. But Iām happy. Thank you. Thank you everyone.
Yes, Daily Audio Bible this is Cara from and Iām from Spring Hill Tennessee and the Lord gave me the name Shara Shalom. So, when I call in that will be the name that Iāll be using. It means song of peace, which is interesting because I have struggled with anxiety most of my entire life. And Iām calling in response to Esther who called just today, left a message from Nashville Tennessee. And I wanted to encourage you Esther that one of the ways that I dealt with and that the Holy Spirit walked with me through the recovery of anxiety, which Iāll probably always deal with, but I have found victory over this anxiety through the Scripture Philippians 4:6, which you had quoted. So, I want to remind you of the entire Scripture. āBe anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known to God and the peace of God which surpasses all comprehension shall guard your heart and your minds in Christ Jesus.ā I found that the best therapy for me was immediately when I will open my eyes my mind was start racing, my heart was start racing, everything would start. I would have this feeling of dread and overwhelming anxiety and the Holy Spirit started prompting me to thank Him. The first thing in the morning, open your eyes and start thanking Him forā¦for being alive. Thank Him for your breath. Thank Him for a roof over your head. Thank Him for the simple, the basic things. And as you begin to thank Him forā¦for your life and for the justā¦for the simple little things in your life, that you have breakfast, that you have a car, that you have clean clothes, whatever it happens to be, the thanksgiving replaces the anxiety and it is an amazingā¦itās an amazing thing to watch, an amazing therapy to watch. And I know it worked for me. I know that it is actually now considered a legitimate therapy but thatās how I walk through the incredibleā¦
Hello Daily audible Bible community this is Terry and Kansas City. This is my fourth year listening to the Scripture being read. Iām learning so much. Thank you, Brian. But this is my first year to really come into the community with prayerā¦with listening to prayers and praying for others and for that I am thankful. I was reminded today that there are people in this community that their only church is with the DAB community because, as the lady in England said the churches are not close to her so we have become her church. For the gentleman who had the stroke three years ago and this is the way that he hears the word because he cannot read it and God gives him an understanding. That is a blessing. But my heart and prayers go out for Heather who called with a desperate urge and desire to have Godās presence back in her life after Satan has destroyed her family and her tiredness just broke my heart. Iāve been there with being tired. So, I pray that God will show himself mightily in your life and will restore to you the years that the locusts have eaten and that you will feel His mighty presence in your life and that you can be the mom that you were called to be. My prayers go out to all of the community and thank you for praying for all who need it.
Yes, my name is Dana Roger Smith Iām from Arab Alabama and I was just listening to day 23 or January 23rd, the prayer from Heather from Atlanta and it actually broke my heart. I donāt know what happened when Satan attacked you, I donāt know what exactly happened, but I want to tell you last year was a very rough year for me. And I was at the end and at breaking point contemplating suicide. And I lost a child six years ago September 2013. She was 11 days old and I have childhood trauma. So, Iāve never truly recovered. And last year was a veryā¦a breaking point. You know, I realized that people cannotā¦you knowā¦you try to rely and depend on people and you really canāt, but God puts people in our life sometimes that He works through them. Anyways, and so that was a lot for me. I am so sorry that you are going through this and you sound so desperate. I hope you get this message and know Heather that I am praying for you. You know, I come to Atlanta, you know, live in Alabama and itās about maybe three hours, four hours from my house but I do come and I will definitely be praying for you anā¦and I wish there was a way we could get in contact that I could actually just talk to because, you know, you sound like you just really need someone. So, Heather in Atlanta I pray that God reveals Himself to you in such a way that is undeniable and that He sends His army of angels to lift you up and to fight this battle youāre going through. In Jesusā name I pray. Amen.
Hi DAB family this is Jenika. I am a bit more new to Brianās devotions. My mom has been listening for years, but I have started on my own. Itās January 23rd and I heard this woman calling in about feeling lost and broken and abandoned and I want to knowā¦to tell you that I understand that. Yours seems so much bigger than I feel but I want you to know that I love you, that I am praying for you, that God loves you and that these trials, even though they hurt, that I have been shown so much that this year that there is a reason for them. I love you so much and I thank you so much for sharing because it has encouraged me for the first time to share as well. And I want you to know that Iām praying for you and I love you. Thank you.

I like that (FP Jones-Riverdale)
Summary: Y/N's Jughead's friend who works at Pop's whereĀ FP Jones saves her from a creepy fratboy.
It was a lovely day in a small town called Riverdale. This town was used to be one of the most boring and calm towns in all the universe. But not long ago an unexpected accident happened that caused the whole town to became suspicious of absolutely everyone they knew.
''Y/N! Wait up!''Ā A black haired boy with a grey crown like hat yelled as the girl with a floral dun dress made her way out of the Riverdale high school.
''Juggy, hey, what's up?'' Y/N turned around to come face to face with her friend.
''Going to Pops?''
''Yeah. My shift starts in about 30 min.'' She smiled.
''You're probably the only person who is excited about going to work.'' JugheadĀ said with his face seeming like he's totally done with everything.
''I'm not excited about work, silly.'' She smiled, elbowing him playfully. ''I'm excited about people.Ā Do you have any idea how many different people I meet everyday, how many people i talk to, how many stories i hear everyday.'' She explained looking up at the sky.
''You're something else.''
''Huh?''
''You're so positive, I don't think I've ever seen you mad or sad..''
''Oh c'mon that's not true, I do get mad.''
''Lecturing aĀ drunk on what feminism is after he told you he used to date an 'ugly feminazi bitch' doesn't count.''
''It very much does.'' She fake glared at him before adding, ''Besides we have you and your angst, we don't need mine as well.''
''Sure, but i can't help it, ism w-''
''You're weird, you're not like us, you're not the perfect next door kid. I know.'' She cut him off before bursting in to laughter when she saw his annoyed expression.Ā ''I'm sorry buddy, you know i love you.'' She added hooking her arm trough his as they continued walking.
''I know, but it would feel a lot more special if you wouldn't act like you're in love with absolutely every creature on this planet.'' He said sarcastically before smiling down at her. ''But yeah i love you too.''
''That's totally not true, i don't want snakes anywhere near me.''
''Here you go, one black coffee and a chocolate muffin.'' Y/N said with a smile on her face as she gave a man in his late 20's, hisĀ order. ''If i can get you anything else let me know.''
''Actually there is something else.'' The man said clearly checking her out.
''Sure, what can i do for you?'' She said, with a smile still on her face, trying to ignore the fact that she felt like a prey, being surrounded by a lion.
''You can let me do you.''
''Excuse me?'' She tried to give the guy the benefit of the doubt, hoping he meant something else.
''I'm just kidding.'' He said causing Y/N let out a sigh of relief. ''But you can give me your number.''
''Sorry iĀ actually like to separate work and pleasure.'' She tried to reject him in a nice way.
''But how can you say no to all the pleasure i would be able to give you?''
''Also, I'm saving myself for Jesus, sorry.'' This was probably Y/N's favorite lie to use, and being an atheist she thought it was just so funny how many times this line has worked and made the guys stop annoying her.
''Don't worry you'll be screaming 'Jesus' all night.''
''Ha-ha'' She faked a dry laugh before turning around and started cleaning the tables next to his desk.
''C'mon cutie pie don't be that up tigh-'' The guy was cut off by a deep voice coming from behind Y/N.
''She is not interested! Say one more word and i will rip your head off your shoulders.'' The mysterious dark figure behind the girl said, making the guy shut up and look down at his phone in shame.
''Thank you.'' Y/N whispered as she released that the man in his late 40's that saved her from the creepy frat boy, seemed very familiar.
''Anytime.'' He said shortly before taking a seat on one of the bar stools.
''Can i get you anything, on the house.'' She said with aĀ smile on her face as sheĀ made her way behind the bar again.
''Sure, a beer.''
''Coming right up.'' She smiled before getting the beer and giving it to him. ''Here you go. And thank you again, Mr. ...''
''Jones.'' He said looking up at her with those warm brown eyes. ''But everyone calls me FP.''
''Nice to meet you, FP. I'm Y/N.'' She said offering him her hand which he took and shook. His hands were big, his skin rough bellow her small and soft ones. ''Jones? Any relation to Jughead?''
''Yeah that's my kid, you know him?''
''He's one of my best friends.'' The girl smiled. ''He's a strange but good kid.''
That made the older man laugh, it was a nice sound. He had black hair with some grey hairs here and there, making him even more handsome, and his eyes, oh his eyes were do warm and inviting, even tho his whole persona wasĀ very dark and uninviting.
''Strange is an understatement.'' He agreed making the girl laugh.
''Very true.'' She nodded, pouring herself beer as well. It was getting late and the pop's was basically empty except the frat boy from before who was just making his way out.
''Wait, how do you know him, you have to be at least in your early, maybe mid 20's'' He said taking another drink of his bear.
''I'm 19, I'm a senior at your sons school'' The girl told him as she took a sip of her beer.
''You look older.'' He observed and raised an eyebrow at her beer.
''Well i guess it's the experience that matures you, not your age.'' She said nodding in the direction of where the frat boy used to sit. ''And this,'' She continued, lifting her beer, ''I'm European, I'm basically already an adult in every way.'' She said winking at him.
''If you say so.'' He let out a laugh again. ''Europe, i knew your accent can't be American?''
''Yep my mum and i moved here when i was 16 after she divorced my dad, he was kind of an asshole, also probably the reason i have daddy issues.'' She said.
''Daddy issues, huh?'' He said raising an eyebrow as he shifted closer to the girl.
''You should beware, you're right at the daddy age.'' She winked before letting out a laugh.
''Well then.'' He sent a smirk her way, making a soft blush creep on her cheeks.
It was nice, besides the fact that there was a huge age gap between then they got along, they both had the same seance of humor and were able to talk about nothing and everything, as cliche as it sounded.
''Y/N, sorry I'm late, I'll own you one.'' Hermione said stumbling trough the door.
''Oh, don't worry about it, I didn't even realize what's the time.'' Y/N said straightening up and looking at the clock, it was just a bit over 4am, she was supposed to end her shift at 3am but she ended up sitting next to FP on one of the bar stools and talking since there were almost no other costumers at night.
''Give me a sec I'll just put away my stuff and take over.'' Hermione said walking in to the closet area behind the bar.
''Sure.'' The younger girl said as she stood up from the stool.
''How are you going home?'' FP asked garbing his jacket from the stood on the other side of him.
''I'm walking home, pretty much just to shower since i clearly don't have time to sleep before i have to get to school''
''I'll drive you.''
''You sure?''
''Yeah, it's the least i can do.'' He said, genuinely feeling happy without beingĀ drunk
''Alright, I'll just grab my things.''
''Thank you again, Y/N'' Hermione hugged her before she made her way out of the restaurant where FP was already waiting on her.
''Ready to go?'' He asked offering her his elbow trough which she hooked her hand as they walked towards his truck.
"Thank you again, for standing up for me." She said as they made it to his car, where he opened the door for her.Ā
"It was my pleasure." Ā He said before closing the door behind her and Walking over to his side, and starting the car.Ā
"You should come by more often." She smiled as he started the car.Ā
"Now that i know a girl like you works there, i most defenetlyĀ will." He said, sending her a quick smirk before looking back on the road.Ā
"Are you flirting with me, Mr. Jones?" She asked scooting herself closer to him and laying her head on his shoulder.Ā
"Have been for the last couple of hours. Thank you for noticing." He said with a chuckle and in that moment she knew exactly where Jughead got his sarcasm and snaky commentary from.Ā
"Oh I've noticed." She said before being interrupted by her own yawn. She gently wrapped her arms around his arm, which he was now resting on her thigh as they drove.Ā
"We're here.'' FP said as he Parked his car at the address the girl told him was her home.Ā
"Mhm" was all she said before cuddling in to him even more. She was already half asleep.Ā
"Come here." The man let out a chuckle before picking the girl up in his arms and caring her out of the car bridal style.Ā
"Wat arr you doin'?" She said Partially Waking up.Ā
"Getting you home safely." He said just as they reached the top step if her porch where he gently set her back in her knees. "Will you be able to make it the rest of the way?" He said a smile on his face.
"Mhm, I'm a big girl, remember?" She said searching for her Keys in her purse. "Got 'em" she smiled pointing the Keys in the air.Ā
"Good job baby girl." He said clearly amused by her sleepyĀ attempt to get in to her own home, the fact that she drank a couple of beers probably didn't help.Ā
"I like that." She smiled up at him, enchanted by the new nickname.Ā
FP raised an eyebrow at the girl as she stumbled closer to him.Ā
"Thanks." She said before stepping on her tips toes and pressed sing a soft but quick kiss on his lips.Ā
FP didn't have time to react as she already turned around and walked trough her door.Ā
"I like that." He said to himself before Walking back to his car with a proud smirk playing on his lips.Ā
