flicking back through journey into mystery 2011 and thinking about how the whole story revolves around servitude and treating people as tools/possessions/extensions of oneself. the disir and the helhounds. "the tongue of the serpent" and "the hand of hela". nightmare claiming other people's minds as "his domain". uprisings in vanaheim and otherworld and hel. ikol manipulating loki and loki enslaving ikol, and both of them creations of the loki who died. the all-mother using loki for asgard's dirty work while claiming to love him. loki favouring companions he has power over - ikol, leah, thori. loki's utilitarian morals, modelled directly on thor's advice but never understood as noble when wielded by loki, and how they lead him both to try to sacrifice others and, in the case of thori, to show mercy... in the form of redemption by force. and he really thinks he's being kind, because that's more kindness than anyone is showing him.
