Verdict on Venom. Not a great film by film-making standards, no. There’s some very awkward acting, the interview scene is...not great at all, there’s a tone problem, we have too quick a turn around into Venom being like YEAH I LOVE THIS EARTH PLACE BABY, and the final fight scene is basically everything I hate about American fight scene choreography in one scene (but it is still better than anything in the Bay Transformers films). That said it was fun? Like it’s not what I’d call Quality Cinema but it was fun. Had more fun with it than I’ve had with some of the Disney produced Marvel films. Like those are more competently done by and large, but it was nice seeing something that wasn’t like cookie cutter ass mediocre bullshit and just a kind of awkward trainwreck that was an amusing way to spend time. Editing was mostly adequate. I say mostly. There’s some transitions between scenes that I felt happened too fast and the scene where we establish how Eddie’s job goes just...wasn’t good. Like it accomplished what it set out to do in so far as I get the point but it was kind of. Bleh. I’d rather we’d have just had like a more traditional ass montage sequence or maybe like a reporting scene that wasn’t the interview with Unremarkable But Functional Villain Man. Also the final fight scene editing was trash but I feel that way about a lot of fight scene editing now. I also feel like some of the set ups and payoffs were a bit too Obviously A Set Up And Payoff. Like I was counting off the moments with those. That might just be a me problem though? Structurally I could follow what was going on, but I do think we needed to slow the film down at points. In particular Eddie and Venom needed to have at least one more scene that establishes their working dynamic. Like there was a nice rule of three with their action sequences, but the second one did not allow for the downtime necessary to let us settle into this relationship. Nor did it allow for the downtime needed for Eddie and Venom to just have a quiet time moment. We kind of had a quiet time moment but that was ruined by the intrusion of the reminder of the sound thing. Which we really did not need there. That scene would have worked a lot better had we shuffled some shit around and let them have a quiet moment up there where Venom is like ‘Your world’s not that ugly, huh,’ and Eddie’s like ‘I guess,’ or some shit like the depressed dipshit he is. And no fucking reminder of the sound frequency weakness. Stick that bullshit elsewhere. Christ. In terms of tone...it varied...a lot. A bit too much? It feels a bit inconsistent. Especially how the ending scene meshes with the earlier scenes involving Venom. I do feel like we could have made a nice transition from horror movie style editing and framing into the more jovial romcommy shit in the last scene, but the way the film’s set up it doesn’t feel even. I think tonally the best moments were probably the Eddie is out of a job and miserable scenes. This section has some of the better shots, editing, lightning, and sound. And it’s probably got the best bits from Hardy performance wise. The second best handled section I feel like on this front is the part where Eddie is initially bonded to Venom and is trying to work out what the fuck is going on. It’s just comical enough while being just horrifying enough to get across what I feel should be gotten across. Made decent use of techniques staple to the demonic possession horror film subgenre. Performances were serviceable. Eddie and Venom were probably the best in this department. They’re also the best of the characters writing wise, though I do think they’ve got issues in terms of how their arc progresses. I did like the little bit characters like the lady at the market quite a bit. I just wish that I gave near as much of a shit about the scientist villain man. Riot’s ok. He’s got some nice horror type stuff establishing him as a threat and he’s at least visually interesting, if not thematically compelling. Scientist villain man just feels a bit too evil? Like in a way that pulled me out of things. He’s also not that fucking interesting. At all. I did really like the dynamic between Eddie, Venom, Anne, and Don though. Themes...I get what they were going for? And some of it does work but...the thing as a whole just isn’t pulling them together. There’s a potential for something good there and it’s not really paid off on. We just have interesting snippets. Scientist dude didn’t have to be dull as fuck. Venom and Eddie’s relationship didn’t have to be so abrupt. Riot’s conflict with Venom too for that matter. We’ve got interesting themes that can be very fun that just aren’t done the justice they should have been done. I like them. I just wish they were better handled. I did really like the symbiote effects. They’re properly gross and goopy looking and they’ve got a fluidity to them. I wasn’t really put off by them in a ‘Well that’s not real’ sense, which is nice. They’ve got a ‘texture’ to them. On a deeply personal note...I did really like the general concept with the relationship between Eddie and Venom? And how bits of it are portrayed. As someone who practices religious ecstasies and voluntary possessions that all kind of rang true and relatable to me. I also really liked the weight behind Anne telling Eddie that all this shit is his fucking fault. That scene was done nice, speaking as someone who’s royally fucked things up before and blamed it on everyone but myself.

her first boyfriend cheated on her, and then her second boyfriend (her last one) actually dumped her via email when he was half way across the world because he had "fallen for someone else". so she's had really shitty luck with boys really and she's a bit down about it bc she's just fed up of being disappointed and people letting her down. she's always felt that way with boys and friends and stuff, her first bf cheated on her with her best friend, and then all of her friends sided w/ the friend rather than her, and so she'd always been a little muddled and lost and stuff

despite that tho she's a real upbeat honeybun like she's Very Smiley and she loves making pals but like she's a take no shit kinda girl???? she's dead fierce and protective and Does Not Tolerate Men. she's a feminist icon my dudes and guys ;)

she loves kiddos!!!! she loves 'em and she's very good with kids and so she does a lot of babysitting in her spare time? she's not stuck for the cash but she does a lot of that, as well as dog walking? just bc she enjoys it and likes helping people out :)

ok i'm still figuring this out cos in the last rp i actually played this bab and she was a nurse? but minnie's an actress? but basically this honeybun here is actually a trained pediatriac nurse? when she was younger she had her sights set on the westend, broadway, hollywood, anywhere that would have her! she wanted to act and that was that, but it was a fool's dream, or so they say? she's a pretty practical person so she has her head screwed on and she studied for something that she legitimately wanted to do, so while taking acting classes and hitting as many auditions as she could, she also studied hard at university and there you are, she's a nurse. and she loves her job. She loves loooking after the kiddos and loves seeing them go hum and being healthy and with their family. it does get her down sometimes cos it's so sad seeing these young'uns sad and unwell and struggling so much? and if they don't make it it's even harder, so she can get quite emotional and it could take its toll on her? so it's not unheard of for her to just walk into daisy's bedroom and just throw herself face down on her bed for a good ol' cry lol

but anyway yeah she still went to a lot of auditions and eventually they panned out, and she took leave from the hospital she was at and ended up doing a fair amount of romcoms and movies of the like, which was amazing for her because, duh, romance is totally her jam

people probably think her whole obsession with romanticism and whatnot is quite naive and silly? she's so far from it though, she just wants to believe that it's out there and it exists for everyone. she totally believes in true love and soulmates even in the most platonic sense, and she definitely sees daisy as her soulmate, so it's not like it has to be romantic, she just has a whole obsession and adoration for love. she thinks there's such a thing as having more than one soulmate, too, and if you're meant to be then it'll work out in the end. she loves going on dates!!!!!! she loves stupidly charming men who will scramble to open the car door for her, or pull her seat out in a restaurant, or take her hand as she's coming down the steps, and anything pure and romcommy, even tho she's a Pure Feminist who don't need no man, and knows the difference between a guy being a gent, and just pure condescension.

she develops a lot of small, harmless lil crushes? nothing major but if you're a cute guy and you make her feel good, it'll def make her heart race a little but nothing too overboard :)

she can't stand sleazy men or mean people or anything of the sort, she's not a judgy type and she'll fight for the people she loves

she's got a younger sister who is her whole entire world so if you fuck with her she'll break your nose in ten different places and the same applies if you even look at daisy the wrong way

she's not really into one night stands as such cos she wants to be swept off her feet but she's not opposed to it if she knows you? just bc you're someone she trusts and that it's just fun !!!

anyways romcoms are her shit, her fav movies in the whole world like truly!!! she loves the west end, once is her fav but she'll honestly spend a lifetime raging about the fact that girl and guy never got together, and how that shit's meant to be romantic and YET!!!!! and love actually is her favourite movie she dresses as the christmas lobster ever year for halloween

she has a particular soft spot for a good pal of hers, they kinda grew close and it never really took off, but he holds a very special place in her heart and always will, regardless of where she goes from here :)
