Bakugou was so upset when Izuku lost his quirk, for a lot of reasons. But he wanted the two of them to stay together, be heroes together. And he worked so hard to give Izuku back his dream, just to find out that Izuku's dream had changed. He wanted to continue being a teacher. He wasn't going to focus so much on being a hero in the same way that Bakugou was. In 431, he no longer shows any interest in standing shoulder to shoulder with Bakugou, in pushing each other to be the best.

431 makes it feel like Bakugou is holding on to a past that he hasn't fully accepted he lost, and Izuku has "grown up" in a way.

Which....kind of is a good thing for Izuku.

He was constantly pushing himself beyond his limits, breaking his body because he shouldered every responsibility himself. The manga....addresses this as a problem pretty often. But we never reeeaally see him learn why he shouldn't be doing that.

The Vigilante Deku arc was supposed to accomplish that. Show Deku learning to let others help him instead of destroying himself because he can only focus on the responsibility he feels to protect everyone. But the messaging is kind of undercut by Izuku being Izuku about it (Saying that All Might never did anything wrong and it was all his fault he became like that, never really confronting or admitting that he has an enormous amount of pressure placed on him externally that he needs to learn how to deal with better) and also the fact that we get the the 2nd War immediately after this, which has Izuku (with everyone else) pushing themselves beyond their limits and risking life and limb to win the war. Izuku narrowly avoids having another breakdown about everyone dying (understandable) and is once again breaking his body, risking his life, and doing more than anybody else (except arguably Bakugou) to save the day.

But it's necessary, because otherwise everyone dies and we don't get a big epic final battle, so this time it's okay.

The lesson is there, but it feels like there is a lack of follow-through. The fact that Izuku loses his quirk in the end kind of absolves him of really internalizing the lesson. It kind of feels like his growth ends after losing his quirk and he just kind of settles into complacency rather than actually maturing.

And for Bakugou, it just feels....sad. Because Bakugou really wanted Izuku to be in his life like he used to be, and Izuku says no. And we don't get a clear picture of how Bakugou plans to handle that, find another way to push himself to be better and keep moving forward. And we're told that Bakugou is actually dropping in the polls. Bakugou was always going to be a good hero, and he isn't obsessed with being the best anymore (also a good thing) but it seems like he's lost a lot of the fire he had, specifically because Izuku isn't there.

When you left to America, Bakugou was furious, after all you all have been through, he thought this will unite the group, will unite the both of you.

He was pacing in his room, looking at the floor as he thought of ways to make you stay, damn, he even thought in confessing his feelings for you, thinking it might change something, his last hope.

After what felt like an eternity, he decided to walk towards the common area where he knew he'll find you and ask for a minute of your time. Only to be met with sad expressions and you… nowhere to be seen.

“Sorry man, they already left” said Kirishima and he felt like all of the air of his lungs where punched out. “I saw them standing outside your room for I while, I thought you two talked” Kirishima adds, which only makes Bakugou feel worst.

Eleven years has passed, Bakugou had achieved everything he wished when he was a teenager, He was the number one hero, had a nice relationship with his coworkers, friends and was not insecure anymore and of course… had a beautiful fiancé, patient, funny and smart.

The thought of you leaving still lingered, but he always made sure to push it away, telling himself it was a stupid teenage crush and that he was over it.

“Bakugou!” Kirishima's voice “you're coming tonight, are you?” He asks, looking excited

“Huh? What are you talking about?” The blond asks

“The UA reunion party at Kaminari's! Midoriya will be there, and I heard (y/n) was going” Kirishima says and Bakugou just freezes “you're coming then?”

“Y-yeah- yeah” Katsuki answers, still not processing the whole information correctly, but he nods anyways.

“Great! Do you think you can pick me up?” Kiri asks, trying to keep the conversation going, but Bakugou only nods, lost in thought.

Later that day, Bakugou pulls out in front of Kaminari's house, swallowing hard as he gets out of the car

“Oh man, I'm so excited to see everyone, I've heard (y/n) has a great career in America, and they’re one of the top heroes there, we have so much to catch up on” Bakugou grunts as he hears your name, looking away and mentally preparing himself as he walks inside Denki's place.

He looks around, searching for you but he doesn't see you, making him feel more relaxed, thinking you haven't arrived yet, leaving him time to compose and prepare for your arrival.

Bakugou engaged in a few conversations, with Sero, Mina, Midoriya and anyone he can encounter, trying to take off his mind off… you- there you were, speaking with Iida in a corner, you looked… marvelous, and for a second, the blonde forgot he was engaged.

“Did you hear that?” Denki asks to a Bakugou who was completely lost in you, he shakes his head, slowly starting to walk in your direction, like something was pulling him towards you.

When he sees you looking at him, he let's out a small gasp, reminding himself to act normal as you finish your conversation with Iida to walk towards him.

“Hi!” You say, with that sweet voice, bringing thousands of memories back.

“Hey” Bakugou says back, trying to act normal, calm.

“I heard lots of you lately, congrats on being the number one, you always wanted that” he hears you talk, you sound… happy

“Heh, thanks, it was obvious tho, I am the best” he smiles at your giggle for his comment “h-how have you been?” And like that, two old friends feel like sixteen again, chatting and laughing together.

“You know, I still remember that day” Bakugou hears you say, you were both outside in Denki's backyard, stargazing as you both drink “I stood outside your door, wanting, no- wishing to stay, I even thought of confessing my feelings for you in that moment, thinking it would change something” you whisper, kind of embarrassed to say such an intimate thing, and Bakugou just freezes at your next words “i-… think i never stopped”.

Katsuki doesn’t say anything, he doesn’t even move as he thinks at your words, you… You like him? You were going to stay for him? Everything could have been different, so different.

“Y-you like me?” He asks, turning his eyes at you “i-i'm… I'm engaged” the blonde whispers, mostly to himself as he looks down, thinking what's next

okay just for fun i'm going to compile the garbled knowledge i have about what happens in bnha going forward (so everything after season 5 episode 8/middle of the joint training arc).

this is a few years of passively picking stuff up through tumblr, ao3 and a friend who reads the manga and would periodically upon request tell me how my kids were doing

upcoming arcs: endeavour internship arc, plf arc, ??? other ones probably, final war arc

bakugou, midoriya & todoroki intern at endeavour's agency. endeavour redemption arc continues to be a thing that is happening

midoriya develops the past OFA users quirks - blackwhip first, then float, and then the others are i think...danger sense, smokescreen, some kind of...healing thing? i have definitely seen them all referenced in fic but i mostly just remember float and blackwhip

touya reveal!! dance with your son in hell!! we stan. i have no idea what the outcome of this is other than that i believe natsuo never gets on board with endeavour redemption but fuyumi does. i think maybe shouto as well...

at some point things about hawks?? and the hero commission's...stuff?? with hawks?? gets revealed publically and contributes to growing unrest about heroes' roles in society. and the touya stuff i think also gets revealed and contributes to this

oh kurogiri obviously. that's season 5 i'm pretty sure. kurogiri is a noumu made from oboro shirakumo, aizawa & mic's (& midnight's?) UA friend who they thought died under some rubble during agency placements. it was actually aizawa they were after but they got oboro instead. aizawa & mic go to confront him and try to get through to him and it initially does not work

while i'm on aizawa knowledge: he gets shot with a quirk destroying bullet in the leg and fucking cuts his own leg off to try and stop it from working. and on what is maybe a separate occasion he loses an eye, i think to shigaraki. idk if eri rewinds one of both of these injuries??

eri does successfully rewind mirio's quirk back. and at some point midoriya loses his goddamn arms?? but eri fixes that. so often when i asked my friend for updates it would end up being about how many limbs my faves currently had

midnight dies. idk how or why. twice i think also dies. again, no context.

aoyama is revealed as the UA traitor. he was born quirkless and was given his quirk by AFO. it was an overall sympathetic he had v few good choices kind of situation i think

at some point everything kind of collapses. i think this is to do with public reaction to hero stuff?? but the whole city seems kind of wrecked and a bunch of people are sheltering on UA's campus i think...and then midoriya for reasons i do not really understand runs off on his own for an iconic yellow scarf of sadness era of going rogue. and 1-a has to track him down and yell a lot about how they love him and he needs to cut it out. this includes a bakugou apology i believe

i think the midoriya run away coincides with OFA reveal?? he writes them letters i think...then he comes back and there's a lot of discussion about baths

climactic midoriya shigaraki fight...we find out shigaraki used to be quirkless. i think AFO gave him the quirk used to kill his family or something equally fucked up. midoriya...throws all his quirks out? to like? achieve something? so he (temporarily) is quirkless...

bakugou dies but they fix it. i think with...shigaraki...somehow. oh and at some point during all this i think kurogiri does do some helpful for the heroes teleporting?? so they maybe did get through to him in the end?

timejump and SHINSOU IS IN 2-A. this is the only thing that matters actually!! my boy!! he did it!!!!! he took aoyama's spot bc aoyama didn't feel like he could come back even tho he'd pretty much been forgiven. so we just missed canonising the iconic 'shinsou hitoshi is in class 1-a' tag bc it's 2-a and fully did not canonise the 'shinsou hitoshi replaces mineta minoru' tag

I have some random headcannons for you!

Bakugou's sense of hearing and touch in his hands is a bit fried bc of his Quirk, but he'd be the last to admit it.

Kaminari's sense of touch also isn't that acute. Also sometimes his system messes up bc nerves run on electric charges. Sometimes his body moves without him telling it to or he just randomly starts feeling anxious or excited or sleepy.

Izuku gets cramps in his hand when he writes too much. When Uraraka sees him massaging his hand she'll ask if he wants her to write for him while he dictates and the answer is always yes.

Aoyama gets laser poisoning.

Bakugou calls Aoyama French Fry.

Once Shinsou got his Quirk, he started talking less and less until middle school. He spent the entire time never speaking to a soul unless absolutely necessary. He answered questions in class to avoid being noticed but otherwise he never spoke. Even at home. Even now he only talks when there's important information to impart. Tho sometimes Aizawa can get him to talk about his interests.

Also he's lying about it having to be a question. I can't count how many times in cannon he's ensnared people with statements.

Eri's family is her dad (Togata), her other dad (Aizawa), her dad's husband (Mic), her brother (Shinsou), and her uncle (Izuku). Izuku wants to know why he's her uncle and she says it's cause he takes care of her like the others and she loves him to death but he spends a lot less time with her than the others (bc hero work/school/friends) and therefore there's slightly less of a bond. Izuku promises to visit more.

Everybody thinks Kirishima and Bakugou are dating but they're not. If you ask Kirishima he will laugh and not give you a straight answer. If you ask Bakugou he will yell at you. Kirishima is cryptic for the express purpose of annoying Bakugou.

Shigaraki loves dogs.

Koda has lost his homework more than once because he left it in range of his rabbit. And other people's homework. And the occasional chair leg. His rabbit is a holy terror and Supreme Overlord Queen of Everything.

Ooo Ive never heard that for Kaminari before! I imagine hed probably have things like occasional numbness, “pins and needles” feelings, and have his hair stand on end too. I think its so cool when bodies can handle their quirks, but not enough where it completely negates all side effects

Uraraka writing for Deku is so cute, and you cant tell me she wouldnt start taking two sets of notes in class when she notices hes having some issues

The Shinsou angst… I wonder if he wouldve taken to having more online friends, or even learning a signed language so he could make friends with people who wouldnt immediately distrust him. I could also see him even texting his family as opposed to talking to them, as sad as that is

“My rabbit ate my and everyone elses homework” is probably the lamest excuse. He probably had to bring her into class and let her eat a sheet of paper to prove he wasnt lying!

Okay so this is how i see it (sorry if this kinda comes off as negative), I think the reason why Horikoshi made Bakugo be rejected by Deku was that he kinda wanted to shut down ship interpretations. Normally Deku and Bakugo being a duo and joining in the same agency would make sense but I think he wanted it to be shut down because those were ''ship-y'' stuff and Horikoshi decided to get rid off those interpretations, thats why I think we have Bakugo be rejected and then have Deku chase after Uraraka. It's like Horikoshi wanted to show that Deku's future will be with Uraraka now instead of with Bakugo. That's how the writing came off as to me tbh.

I personally don't agree mostly with it, but thats of course fine! thanks for sharing your perspective!

I believe the best way to shut it down its making it clear neither want to be closer to the other, nor imply theres an unresolved problem of self esteem and communication -just making them part ways, with minimal interaction, or in case they want to focus on katsuki too, then give him scenes unrelated to deku. I mean if after 10 years of being the bnha it ship, if he really was annoyed by it there were so, so many ways to just not make them shippy -for example, bring up him instead of all might when rejecting himiko! he does admire him but doesnt want to share the same heart as him, right? easy way to shut it down; call them brothers, it doesnt stop the shipping but it closes the option for canon; not give katsuki all the possible heroine scenes and story; etc.

I think a way to see it simply and plain, without adding any conspiracies about not wanting to do 431 or whatever, is that he just wanted to avoid repeating the bkdk movie.

I think its funny how, at least from what I understood, deku didnt went after her, he just noticed her AFTER not being able to go with katsuki in his car. Maybe im remembering wrong or something, but I dont see it as "deku's future is about uraraka", but more like "431 wants him to choose her" -even tho they have the same ideals and goals, they dont mention or imply talking about those, or wanting to know how to save others together, or make the world a better place together, and instead it just focuses on "I didnt talk to you even tho I love everyone, lets talk more and more" -pretty weak still, it doesnt feel hopeful like at all basically bc deku, our protagonist, has to be put in a world where being a pro hero makes no sense, losing a passion for it and having a tame priority, in order to make him closer to her.

He can't have greater dreams, or ambitions, or be a little selfish, or truly stubborn about what he wants in order to make him closer to her -he has to be a little lost in a lower self esteem, just like her. He has to choose a career he thinks he deserves after what happened with shigaraki, and he has to lose his liking for competition. He has to become bland, just choosing safer options, keeping teaching at a prestigious, basically Ivy League PRO HERO high school, as a way to "help and reach out others", and lose most contact with his "most special person", in order to "choose her". He has to be forced to walk back home instead of being on a car ride, in order to "choose her". Idk I think there were ways to make this -both shutting down bkdk and canonizing that ship- way better, simpler, and just natural.

I just cant understand what was the idea behind this, like at all. Why making katsuki sad? Why? Why making deku and ochako not talk in all those years? They could've gone in dates, and now profess their true love for each other or something idk lol.

Just- why making 431 where deku cant have a bright future with her? Why does he have to truly choose between them? That just makes it more shippy, like a love corner, and it gave us a lot to work with as it basically confirmed there are really, really strong feelings for deku coming from bakugou -to close off a ship, I dont think the best idea is to confirm half of it loves, worries over, and wants to be close to the other.

But again, 431 makes no sense in terms of writing (and some drawings), so your perspective could still be true.

I was thinking about this on the bus awhile back before school vacation, and just now im deciding to share my thoughts!

Bakugou:

I believe Bakugou would listen to hard rap. He works out a lot, so he probably listens to music that fits the vibe and gets him pumped y’know? HOWEVER, i also believe he listens to rock. the grittiest, edgiest, stuff. MCR, Get Scared, others with similar sounds. He doesn’t listen to pop, but some songs he likes (you’d have to catch him dead before he ever admitted it tho lol). I think he’d prefer masculine voices over feminine ones, but i think he could vibe to a female singer.

Kirishima:

He doesn’t listen to anything sad, he doesn’t want his mood to drop. Like Bakugou, he listens to music that pumps him up. Unlike him tho, it isn’t hard rap. It’s songs like Hall of Fame, Believer, For the Glory, Fight Song, etc. He has a preference for masculine voices because MANLY. He doesn’t mind female singers tho.

Kaminari:

Kaminari definitely listens pop. Songs about love and sex specifically. Bros trying to have his rizzlor dreams, yknow? Although, i do also believe he listens to alternative rock and other genres that i can’t think of the names rn lol. I’m thinking songs like Dear Maria Count Me In (All Time Low), Mr. Brightside (The Killers), Afraid (The Neighbourhood), Mr. Bigshot (Anarbor), etc. He likes both feminine and masculine voices

Mina:

She 100% listens to pop and the such. Cardi B, Ariana Grande, Megan Thee Stallion, The Weeknd, Lil Nas X, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Doja Cat, etc. Songs about being a girboss, things that hype up self-confidence, or just things that are really fun to dance to. Speaking of songs to dance to, she definitely listens to genres like hip-hop, dance, or really anything upbeat and danceable. prefers feminine voices over masculine, but is fine with either. 

Sero:

Honestly, i think his playlists would be all over the place. You’d go from listening to Doja Cat, to Destiny’s Child, to Mother Mother, to Juan Luis Guerra, to KISS, and etc. I think his music would get so weird that eventually songs from Jack Stauber would show up. Bro is not restrained by any means, he will listen to anything he can hum to. He listens to any kind of voice, doesn’t matter to him.

i rly cant stand the mha fandom on twt sometimes. it just sucks so much, you know? after a decade, hori finishes this series with such a heartwarming message and people take it apart to make fun of it, because it's not what they wanted. half of them probably wished deku never moved on from his vigilante era or sth bc god forbid, he doesn't have the strongest power ever.

i'm not saying it's wrong to not agree with the chapter. for example, i do wish deku was an underground hero or sth at the end, because honestly? it would have fit him and i feel like aizawa is the best example that it could have worked. i feel like him not being a hero at all for the time kinda just drives across that quirkless people can't be heroes, which is a load of bs imo. but. but i don't think the ending is bad. i think him being a teacher makes sense too. he'd be a great one.

i also don't like how people take the little things and read into them the wrong way. his classmates obvs didn't forget about him, they probably still kept in contact. like, hori has always been good at depicting a realistic lifestyle despite quirks being a fantasy concept. the school experiences of the kids, the dorms, even the feelings and interactions of the people around all them—they are very much rooted in realism. it makes so much sense, that he would keep that sort of realism in their adulthood too. when you work a full-time job, you don't have as much as time. it sucks but that's how it is. and it's even more difficult to meet up than some people might think. i love my friends, but we go months without seeing eo in person bc we either a) are all super busy with our jobs and can't take off at the same time or b) don't live near enough to constantly afford meeting up. we still communicate online tho, and i'm sure the same goes for deku and the class. i also think sometimes, man, i'm a bit lonely, but not bc i'm truly alone but bc it's been a few weeks since i could afford to meet up with someone. those kind of thoughts and feelings are normal and it's sad that people take deku's so much out of context.

and i guess, it's sad that people can't appreciate how his current situation is cool as well. i think someone who's good at analyzing quirks, planning and strategizing, and has a good set of morals makes a great teacher for heroes as well. plus he's co-workers with his old teacher, don't you think that's kind of funny too?

and like said, the end is beautiful in a sense too, bc we get direct confirmation that all these yrs his class has been trying to get him back to where they thought he'd fit best, to where he wanted to be, a hero. bakugou having such a large involvement in that is also really heartwarming if you consider their relationship at the start.

maybe it's not the best ending for a manga, but it's definitely not the worst. that title will always go to demon sl— (sry, it's not that bad either actually sdfds)

Sometimes...sometimes the male characters I like give me the ick. And it's been happening more often with 2 particular clown characters 👀

If you know me, you know I identify as lesbian/queer, so like DUH. But I find it interesting that it's happening more often. Basically with any characters played by real people. I think the comphet in me is slowly dying, guys. I'm being so silly 🤭 but forreal guys, idk what to expect of my future with these characters I've long considered to be f/os of mine. a really popular term in grief groups, specifically ones that specialise in spouse loss, is second chapter. “i started my second chapter today; mike and i finally got married.” “david’s parents were enthusiastic about me dating again! his mother had big feelings but ultimately thinks a second chapter is important.” “my friends don’t understand why i’ve started seeing people so soon but paul is my second chapter.” etc etc etc. personally i hate it LMAOOO. whoever thought of that term was not a reader, jfc. condensing a whole person, a whole love, into a single chapter??? absolutely NOT!!! however—that’s just me being pedantic. 😔 most people understand what the term second chapter means, just by context. 🥺 and this is the thing: life is so long, for so many of us. you can’t just reread the one chapter, once it ends. 🥹 sometimes you’re impatient, sometimes you don’t like cliffhangers, sometimes someone in your day to day ends up spoiling the second chapter for you a little by telling you good things about it that remind you why you started reading this particular book in the first place—however you wanna think about it, whatever terminology you use, the point stands: ochako’s part in her own story ends, unfairly, but bakugou’s goes on. a whole lifetime’s worth of it. it’s sad now, at that chapter’s end—but it still goes on! and if ours ends up being apart of it? if it ends up being the same story? then eventually it has to even out to some kind of happy ending, right? 🥹

I’ve only recently joined the JJK fandom (think weeks), and immediately sinked with satosugu and I haven’t been happy ever since. Why do they have to be so tragic? Why can’t they get their happy ending? It doesn’t help that I always fixate on the most tragic ships, and came here right after a really bad phase with Eruri. I don’t know how to deal with satosugu either the sadness is killing me. Would you happen to know of any good fics where they don’t break up or Geto doesn’t die?

I only recently got into the jjk fandom too (think months, rather than weeks) and fell onto my face for satosugu not knowing the tragedy that awaited me, but I kind of thrive in the suffering even if it does make me very sad sometimes. I think stsg speaks to me partly because of their tragedy (tho obviously I too would like them to be happy) but I know it's heartbreaking

Unfortunately, I haven't read any stsg fics so I can't recommend any but maybe I have followers/moots who could offer some suggestions? Otherwise, as someone who started writing fic to deal with my meltdown over Bakugou, I could also recommend writing the thing you need - as a place to put your feelings and also to write the kind of world/story you want for them!
