Man tbh I'm at a weird crossroads with Pokémon. I love pokemon it is one of my most major special interests etc etc but I think I've become, like, a beta-genwunner. I don't really like the creature design direction starting ~gen 6 or so and SWSH/SCVI as games just really are alienating me from the series. Pokemon has so much potential to be one of the most fantastic open/semi-open world games of all time but they keep rushing the games and making stupid decisions (see: dexit) that do nothing but polarize the fanbase.
#i dont even really know how to articulate my feelings on gens 1-2 vs 3-5 vs 6-7 vs 8-9 (slash 6-9) tbh#every generation of pokemon is kind of distinct and while certain things in the game that have changed are grating to go without#like physical/special split and reduced hm presence and exp candies#i feel like pokemon has kind of lost its spark. especially starting in gen 8#ppl shit on gen 6 for fair reasons but i think it was only the catalyst of some of modern pokemon problems#like lazy and soulless animations for the pokemon and birds being forced to fly 3 feet above the ground for nearly 10 years#as well as generally dumbing down the difficulty#pokemon was never hard but gens 6 8 and 9 are esp easy. the children of today aint gonna have to hustle against geeta#gen 7 got hard sometimes tho credit to alola for having scary ass bosses#really a lot of my complaints are just kind of nitpicks#like i dont like modern pokemon designs bc i think they're too overcomplicated and cartoony in proportion#many of my favorite pokemon are relatively simple in design so i am biased#idk. i dont like chewtle's neck or fennekin's bug eyes or baxcalibur's anything#maybe i just need to sit down and really try to appreciate scarlet. its left a sour taste in my mouth#and i think it is fueling my nostalgia driven tendencies. because of how much i cannot get into it.
