Okay so after the whole Sakuna/Wansarut and Phaya/Tharn "characters description" fighter (protector)/healer+protector(mediator) post, now imma talk about about our resident Snake (PhD), Doctor Chalothorn being a fighter and well how do you convince a fighter to not fight?

I've already made a whole gifset about this but I needed to put the stuff into words cuz u just can't say everything in a gifset so this post is gonna be about a few things, first of all, the way Charlothorn's goals shifted in the last 2 episodes, from wanting to kill Phaya so he can have Tharn, to wanting to save Tharn and Phaya's end not really mattering anymore, and second of all Tharn's role in this shift and where have we saw something similar to this shift before aka Wansarut and Sakuna and how Wansarut even did that

Same disclaimer as the last one applies : pulling this out of my ass from watching the show, these are raw out-of-order thoughts, ill try my best to separate but like the last post because I'm going to have to go back and forth between Wansarut (love of my life, talking about Wansarut has to be my favorite activity rn), Sakuna, Tharn (smooching him smooching him), Phaya and Chalothorn this might get hard to follow but hey that's what it's like inside my brain so welcome to the mess

So like I said in the last post, Chalothorn is a fighter, like you can't get more fighter than this, the man is literally the prince/ruler of Nagas and he is right in the middle of the battle field anytime there is a fight to be had, and like I said in Sakuna's part of the post he is a level that can probably can only be rivaled by Sakuna's brother, you can't be a higher level of Naga fighter from what I understand, so like how do you fight this man if you are Wansarut and Sakuna? (ep. 8)

Keep in mind that : the answer is that they never were supposed to fight Chalothorn

SCENARIO 1 : Chalothorn wins

This is what we've seen in the show, Sakuna/Wansarut/Phaya/Tharn would never win against him in a fight because they just aren't strong enough to began with, Sakuna and his Garuda were not Chalothorn's level when he was alive, Wansarut is a healer/protector not a fighter, Phaya can only do ✨Sparkles✨ of Garuda powers as of rn and while Tharn can do some powerful protecting he is of the gang the person who is the less in contact with his past and magical self (other than for protecting Phaya magic, we have not even seen his Naga in this lifetime) and also his past self wasn't even a fighter, so it makes sense that Chalothorn just keep killing them and every single one of their reincarnations, he kills them so much that it was destroying his own soul (ep. 8) because surprise he is getting affected by the little cyclic karma thingy they got going on too, this isn't just about Wansarut/Sakuna and PhayaTharn, Chalothorn is trapped in this shit too

Clearly fighting is not the answer, because even if you win, which Chalothorn has been doing a lot of, you still lose, Chalothorn is losing control of his Naga form, not only does it destroy his soul (ep. 8) but he might just not be able to turn into his human form anymore aka would be forced to be a Naga forever (ep. 9)

Another lost of this is that he keeps losing Wansarut and having to wait for the cycle to start again so he would get another chance, like the level of psychological damage getting done to him because he kills the one he loves and he is always left behind alone to wait is enough to drive anybody insane (ep. 11)

And I think that's one of the reasons why it took him so long to understand that he should let Wansarut/Tharn go, because when you do something so despicable and keep doing it over and over again you have to justifies your bad actions to yourself so you don't break and the more you justifies them the harder it becomes to see clearly through them, so you just keep doing it, like Chalothorn probably hates himself more than he even hates Phaya or love Tharn at this point because he keeps killing reincarnations of Wansarut, like this is his reaction to killing Wansarut the first time, falling to his knees screaming and everything (ep. 8), the cognitive dissonance in that man's brain must be insane

SCENARIO 2 : Phaya wins

Now let's imagine for a second there that they did win, Phaya succeeded in killing Charlothorn, and then what? Isn't Charlothorn just gonna reincarnate and come back for them again? Like yes it might take some times but it will happen, and then Phaya and Tharn would be the one destroying their souls and making their karma worst, that's just not a solution

Also we saw with Narong's case part of the show that "victim turned attacker" is not the answer (anyways that's what the show says), when Tharn and Phaya are talking to the abbot at the end of episode 5 the abbot keep repeating that over and over again killing is not the answer

When Phaya Says "Those victims are left with no choice but to fight back in order to survive. They have to kill." The abbot answers "The basic code of moral conducts for human beings like us is the 5 precepts. One should be abstained from killing other living beings. These precepts can bring peace and happiness to your family and the society. Undertaking the 5 precepts will benefit not only yourself but also the people around you." Basically straight up telling them that [not killing] is the only answer that will bring peace to everyone

Also so many parallels can be made between Narong and Chalothorn (which is probably why it was easy for Chalothorn to possess Narong to attack Phaya but let's not get into that), because like isn't this Chalothorn? (ep. 5)

His mind is so clouded by anger and wanting to kill Phaya and getting Tharn that he is obsessed with it, he literally do not see anything else, specially if Phaya is in the room and/or mentioned, like I said a bit higher in this post, he hates Phaya, but he probably hates himself too, and so much hate and anger just blinds people

Also sidenote that I'm not really gonna dive into : How do you think Tharn would feel about Phaya killing Chalothorn, knowing what u know about him? like Tharn loves Chalothorn as a friend, and that's even if Chalothorn is responsible for all the bad things in his life (ep. 12)

Tharn may be looking at Chalothorn saying this but he said "Please stop killing each other." he could not be more clearly talking to both of them, he doesn't want Chalothorn to kill Phaya but he also doesn't want Phaya to kill Chalothorn

SCENARIO 3 : Tharn Wins

Now lemme say this, you can literally never convince a fighter by fighting him, like if you've ever had a fight/argument with someone you know that you cannot reach a compromise in the heat of the fight when everyone is angry and losing the control of their emotions, it just doesn't work, but what does work in the context of the show?

Wansarut and Sakuna

And now I'm back to Wansarut (<3<3<3<3<3<3) and Sakuna because well Wansarut did change a fighter's mind before already, this is part of Wansarut's power that's why I also describe Wansarut as a mediator, and what did Wansarut do exactly?

Well Wansarut healed Sakuna, even if he is from the enemy side, and took care of him and acted in a way that was protective of him, even if again Sakuna is an enemy of Wansarut's people (literally brother of the Garuda king) because that Wansarut's character, Wansarut is a healer/a protect/a mediator that's how Wansarut fights (ep. 8)

Then Wansarut tough Sakuna about Naga culture (Naga offering and breathing fire to pay respect to Buddha, on the 15th nigh of the 11th waxing moon)

And while being in love with each other did facilitate this change of view in Sakuna (which would later turn him a bit into a protector of Wansarut), you really do not need to be for this to work, like the best way to change people views on some things truly is just to expose them to the thing from the POV of the people living it, when nobody is in any immediate danger

And that is exactly how Tharn succeeded in convincing Chalothorn that the love between Phaya and him is good, by being there for Chalothorn and taking care of him, and being patient, until Chalothorn was ready to let him go on his own, not in the heat of of fight when everyone is angry and putting the blame on each other, which was again so healer/ protector/mediator of him like I talked about in my other post

Tharn and Chalothorn : the final

So with Wansarut and Sakuna we saw how Tharn could change Chalothorn's mind and what really does work, now imma dive into the last 2 episodes of this show aka the shift in Chalothorn

So in episode 6, Chalothorn says this

And at that time I think those words were true cuz that's literally what he has been doing isn't it? Like everytime he lost, both Wansarut and Sakuna's reincarnations died, so he was "okay" with killing Wansarut, as long as it meant that Sakuna was also dead and they weren't together (crazy way to fight cognitive dissonance if you ask me) but then something changed around episode 11 because Chalothorn started saving Tharn even if Phaya was still alive? (Ep. 11) (ep.12)

The importance of Chalothorn saving Tharn those 2 times, is that 1) now Tharn knows what the fuck is going on and 2) (like I said in the other post) Tharn end up understanding that Chalothorn can be talked too and reasoned with (the abbot would call it enlightenment), because in that 2nd saving he told Chalothorn to not kill Montee, and Chalothorn listened

Sidenote : Wansarut also did tell Chalothorn to not kill Sakuna and Chalothorn did listen that time too, like Wansarut has a BIG influence on this man (wish we saw their relationship before the mess), the only reason why the fight did continue was because Sakuna did not let Wansarut go

Why did he listen then? because he loves Wansarut, it really is as simple as that, and that's why he also listened to Tharn with Montee, because our chronically involuntary celibate man is head over dick for Tharn (valid and relatable)

So remember when I was talking about cognitive dissonance and stuff, well by ep 12, Chalothorn cannot justifies killing Tharn anymore, he is tired, he is turning into a Naga, and he cannot stand seeing another reincarnation of Wansarut die again, but most importantly he cannot stand to see Tharn die by his own hands

It's easy to concentrate on Phaya's distress in this scene but Chalothorn is in as much distress as Phaya, you can hear Chalothorn's voice break when Tharn is dying in both Phaya and his arms after asking them to stop killing each other, they are both screaming Tharn's name, and this time Chalothorn just listen because this is too much, his hatred for Phaya is just not important anymore, killing Phaya is just not as important anymore because anyways Tharn did choose him didn't he? isn't that what he wanted? even if Tharn clearly is in love with Phaya, Tharn did choose to come with him, so in a way none of this shit even fucking matters anymore

So for the 3rd time, he saves Tharn, this time by literally giving Tharn his soul so he would live (wish we saw him breaking down over Tharn dying in his arms in the Naga caves until he ended up giving Tharn his soul tbh), Chalothorn chooses to save a life instead of ending one and thus ending the curse on his part

Notes: something super quick i wrote cuz i had a couple cheesy lines pop in my head

Some people would say that taking a blind man stargazing was absurd. Some would say it’s like adding insult to injury - almost literally in Matt’s case considering how he lost his sight. But at the end of the day, Matt found it was possibly one of the best dates he ever had. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

Matt Murdock had been dating Y/n L/n for a few months now and it was safe to say Matt was completely enamoured. She was everything he wanted in a significant other. She was smart, kind, and friendly to everyone she came across. And she brought out the best in Matt, despite knowing his alter-ego; even Foggy and Karen mentioned how much brighter Matt was since he started dating Y/n, always walking into the office with a huge smile on his face. Approaching month four, Y/n suggested they take their first trip together and Matt was all too eager to agree. The destination, however, had him curious.

“Wait, where do you want to take me?” Matt asked, brow raised.

“Camping!” Y/n said excitedly. “Adirondack Mountains to be specific,” she continued informatively. “Come on, haven’t you ever wanted to get out of the city? Experience nature?”

Matt chuckled a bit. “I suppose I’ve never really thought about it, to be honest.”

“Besides, with all your super senses, you’ll probably be able to experience it like no one else does.”

Matt’s smile softened at this. Leave it to Y/n to make everything seem amazing. “Alright, you got me. Let’s do it.”

“Really?!”

He chuckled again. “Really,” he said, giving her a peck on the lips.

Y/n squealed a bit and ran to grab her laptop from her bag, pulling Matt over to his living room couch to show him what she found so far.

A few weeks later, Y/n and Matt were in the middle of the Adirondack Mountains in northern New York. Knowing Matt didn’t exactly have a lot of money and had just recently started his new law practice, they decided to make the trip four days. The drive itself was around five hours; not that either of them minded - it gave them time to talk and just be in each other’s presence. 

When they arrived, Matt and Y/n spent most of the day putting their tent up and setting up the site. When they were able to settle down for the day, the sun was starting its travels towards the horizon. Y/n excitedly pulled Matt to his feet so they could start hiking.

“Now?” Matt questioned. “Isn’t it gonna be getting dark soon?”

“Technically yes, but that’s the point,” Y/n smiled. “Just trust me.”

Matt smiled back. “I do trust you.” He wove his hand into hers. “Lead the way.”

After about twenty minutes, they reached a clearing Y/n was looking for. Stopping them, Y/n pulled a blanket out of her backpack and laid it on the ground, pulling Matt down to lay down next to her. Matt let silence stay settled between them until Y/n spoke.

“Tell me what you sense, Matt,” she said quietly, taking in the sights around them. Matt turned his blind gaze in her direction and raised his brow. Y/n chuckled a bit. “I just…I want to ‘see’ the way you see.” Y/n knew he had heightened senses but didn’t know exactly how they worked.

Matt smiled. “Well, it’d work better if we do this,” he said, gently putting his hand over her eyes and closing the lids, making her giggle a bit. His smile widened and he moved his head back to face upwards again. “Tell me what you sense first.”

Y/n’s lips quirked up a bit. “Well…I can hear the leaves rustling when the wind picks up. And I can smell the fresh air around us. The grass under us is long and soft.”

Nodding, Matt honed in his senses to take everything in and began describing everything to her. “I can hear the wind blowing, how it speeds up and slows down, the leaves dancing as it passes and pine needles hitting the ground from about fifty feet away. The air is definitely cleaner than in the city; it carries the smell of the pines, the leaves on the other trees -which are beginning to turn as we’re getting closer to fall, and the smell of about four deer that passed through this area about thirty minutes ago.” Y/n’s smile widened as she listened to the amazing details Matt gave. She opened her eyes and turned to look at him.

“Keep talking,” she whispered.

“The grass is soft but the ground under it is hard. The dirt is packed hard - likely this is a popular spot and a lot of people have rested here. I can hear rushing water about half a mile out - a river. There’s something big stepping into the water - probably a bear from the more muffled sound; water against thick fur…big splash…teeth sinking into flesh…it just caught a fish.”

Y/n huffed an awe-inspired laugh. “That’s…That’s incredible,” she gushed. “This is how you sense things every day? You can tell all these things? Even from far away?”

Matt chuckled. “You could put it that way, yeah. At times it can be overwhelming. But I’ve learned to separate the noise at times, especially when I meditate. Or when I’m trying to impress an amazing girl.”

Y/n laughed and elbowed him, making him laugh as well.

“Ok ok, that’s not it. But it’s working, right?”

She giggled again, weaving her hand back into his. “Maybe.”

A moment of comfortable silence followed. Matt broke it this time around. “So why did you want to come to this spot?” he asked, giving her hand a squeeze.

“I wanted to see the stars,” Y/n said a bit meekly. “I mean, I felt kind of selfish thinking about it because you can’t see but-”

“I’m not offended,” he said honestly. “I know you love the stars.”

Y/n turned to face him again, slightly shocked. “You remember that? I just mentioned it once - on our first date,” she said shyly.

Matt smiled and shrugged a bit. “The things you say are worth remembering. I knew you were a keeper.” He could feel the creeping heat radiating from her cheeks and he held back a chuckle, just squeezed her hand again. “Tell me what the stars look like.”

“Didn’t you ever see them when you were little? Before you lost your sight?”

“Sure I did. A bit anyway. But you know how much the city lights can obscure them. I want to see what you see,” he said, copying her words from earlier.

She smiled and faced the sky again, now pitch black.

“Have you seen fireflies?” she asked. Matt nodded. “The stars are like mini versions of fireflies stuck in the sky. But white instead of yellow; some bigger than others. They’re like strings of fairy lights spread across an all black canvas. Hanging there with each other without a care in the world, free to do and be what they want to be. If you catch them right, some of them seem to dance and flicker in the sky. Pure symbols of beauty. That’s what stars look like to me.” She ended in a whisper. Matt had long ago turned his face towards hers again, focusing his senses on her, smiling as she described something she loved.

She now noticed and turned to look at him too.

“You know,” he started slowly. Thoughtfully. “If I could see…I think that’s exactly what I’d see when I’d look in your eyes. Freedom…and beauty.”

Y/n’s face split into a wide smile and she gently grabbed Matt’s face in her hands, pulling him in for a kiss that he gladly returned.

“Do you know what I see when I look at you, Matt Murdock?”

“What’s that?” he said breathlessly.

“Love.”

Million-shanix question: Why does Megatron, of all TF characters, in his alt mode have to literally put his fate into another’s servos/hands?

Well, that’s the thing.

It's the same case with Shockwave (who interestingly, I never see anyone criticize despite them both bein' laser guns, but whatever, this ain't about him tonight 🙂‍↔️).

Furthermore, if Megatron can fly in his robot mode, then flying/levitating as a gun shouldn't sound as implausible, right? (ᵕŏᴗŏ)

(I mean it sure does sound funny, but also terrifying, since he can freeze midair, aim with near-perfect accuracy and fire at will)

Oh yeah, and Soundwave's still capable of flight too as a microcassette recorder.

Megatron: Soundwave! WTH!? Come back!

(Ok, at least with him it's just funny. Maybe he can blast [insert appropriate music here] while he's at it)

So knowin' this, why does Megatron still pull this damn stunt, if he's quite capable of doin' it all on his own?

People also wonder why Starscream can't just "accidentally" drop Megs, and then stomp him out like a bug that's not as innocent.

In short, the less he can do in order to conserve energy, the more of a chance he’ll have to win for once lol

Sooo while i was looking at my fav post of yours, I was reading the description and you were talking about the new blend brush in magma! So, I'm assuming you use magma? I've been using it for like, half a year, but im not a pro at digital art so I don't really know what all the layer settings and whatever are. I did watch a video but it was a bit confusing. I know about like opacity and whatnot but I'm still a bit confused on mainly the layer settings. Also, I can't find any tutorials on magma apart from blending :(

I was wondering if U could maybe explain a bit, just the basics like multiply and add and most of the layer settings a begginer would use :) I'm sort of stepping out of my comfort zone because I don't usually bother with colouring and stuff. Any tips U recommend for magma would also help tons! Omg I just realised that this is kind of a stupid request because you probably have to explain a lot... Sorry!

ok ok this will be a long post!!

i made this graphic a long time ago for my friend @mythology-lover, this is using all layer blend modes with the colour bright orange, so you can see what each one does. most of them are self explanatory, I hope. there is no "add" in magma, but colour dodge is similar. I'll go over how to use the blend modes below!

not sure if you want to know how to use the blend modes to render stuff but i'll show you anyway lol

this was a drawing i posted, and i actually detailed my step by step process for my friend again, but I use multiply or darken for shading, its the best way to shade and personally I use dark red for shading but this can change based on lighting. obv I also lower the opacity cuz I don't want bright red. my tip for using multiply is to use a colour more saturated/brighter than you think you would use, cuz multiply ends up darkening the colour anyway.

i recommend using blend modes for shading because they have some "transparency" to them, if you put on shading in a block colour with no blend mode it'll just cover up things you already drew like blush or makeup. i also just create more multiply layers to build up darker and darker shadows.

also, when it comes to more dramatic lighting, ill just put a multiply layer over the WHOLE drawing since in real life in a dark scene there will be a shadow over everything including darker shadows for the actual details. after I add the multiply layer (this one is blue because its supposed to be a nighttime scene and the sky is dark blue) I just erase parts where light is hitting the object

(this isnt well done because im making this quickly)

and when it comes to lighting i like to use overlay, it creates this really nice saturated glowy effect. you can use colour dodge too but it creates these weird artifacts of pixels that are a completely different colour, at least for me

also maybe you already know this, but the little square icon next to the opacity bar is alpha lock its useful if you don't wanna have to make a whole layer and clip it to the layer underneath

also... my BEST advice for magma has got to be to use filters, they save my life, and I frequently use them when my colours arent looking too good. and I specifically LOVE using the "curves" option when you click filters.

they let you control how bright the drawing is, and specifically the amount of each colour (red, green, and blue) in your drawing

here i reduced blue, increased red, and reduced yellow, plus reduced contrast and increased saturation plus made it a bit brighter. looks a lot better in my opinion, filters can really save a drawing lol

random tips: use lasso selection its basically necessary! if the paint bucket/fill tool isn't working that great, increase tolerance and turn on anti-alias, you can also try using the smart option. although I gotta say generally I don't use fill tool as it only really works if you have very clean, sharp, and connected lines. usually what I'll do instead to save time on colouring is make a layer below the lineart, and then make the target layer "above," and then fill it, then fill in the gaps manually. i also recommend using the full mode layout option, unless you have a small screen then it's most optimal, because then you can see all the tools and options.

i also use this layout thing, idk what its called, and have each one be a different brush with different settings (for me, one will be a soft brush with hardness and density lowered, another a hard round (default) brush, another a textured lineart brush, a brush for stars, freckles, or other scattered dots where I just turn up spacing, scattering and jitter for size variation)

also... make sure you flip your canvas to catch your mistakes, you wont notice them until you see it from a different perspective, and the flip canvas button is up top

this is for colouring, but periodically go to "view" and click "show in greyscale" so you can see the contrast between your colours. if everything's the same shade or similar shade of grey, you need to make some parts darker or lighter to make them stand out

ngl i think that's it, unless there's something else you need to know. just realised I've been using magma for like 4 years at this point, time really flies by. hope I helped!

Oh right I saw examples with it, but not in Manhwhas but in Chinese bite sized short webnovels

Asian fiction has similarities so it's not rare they have similar tropes, I read Chinese short webnovels (cuz I can't handle the full length 1000+ ones) translated in Vietnamese and it's a whole community in Vietnam

Some are good, some are terrible but you can't expect much from short stories, anyway it's a huge trend that they write stories where those are criticisms on the tropes of "mindless genocides on a big number of people for the smallest things", like "killing an entire family cuz a kid said my daughter's hairpin looks ugly" sorta thing, though sometimes the mass genocide is for a deeper reason since it's a stereotypical trope and actual historical fact that a clan's mass execution is a real thing usually for treason, though the real life events are because one of the families committed treason or show disrespect to the Royalty, it's more than "someone said something bad about my kid", the reasons can be deep shit like murder of high profiled individuals, Embezzlement, corruption etc. it happens in Vietnamese history too, it could be one huge charade where a family gets framed and they got unfairly executed, usually the details are much complicated than we think, court schemes are much terrifying than petty fightings of women over the Emperor

Though this "clan's mass execution" or the historical name is "Nine relatives extermination", the punishment involved the execution of all relatives of an individual, which were categorized into nine groups, it's another historical victim of historical fiction, using something serious as an outright minor thing even though it should not be that way, it's ridiculous that a family gets killed cuz someone scolds the princess, even though this isn't entirely impossible, people can kill for the smallest things, it's not false or illogical, you know how humans are, they're easiest the ones who would kill cuz they're just pissed at you for no reasons

But sometimes ppl abuse this trope so much, it's ridiculous, this punishment in its long history is supposed to be a bad thing, no one actually thinks this punishment is great bcuz it's a universally accepted concept that you shouldn't be punished for someone's crime much less being punished for the crime of a relative, so yeah I would appreciate it if Fiction treats this as normal, as bad as it is, not the clown shows they did with it

I've seen or heard of or imagine examples where the Protag Princess easily orders the deaths of a family cuz her friend outshines her, hell there's a scene where the Princess' Mother ordered the execution of a clan cuz her daughter's friend's dress is better than her daughter's, a Protag when he's Emperor wants a family dead cuz they refused to do this and that to him (Like ending an engagement of their daughter to him cuz the guy goes broke or he's just unworthy) in the past even though their refusal wasn't unwarranted and even seem right at the time, you know those examples where FL's hot dad killed an entire family cuz they kinda slight his daughter for the littlest things, it's utterly ridiculous

It's terribly shallow, cuz this trope can be played for a minor backdrop or a justified punishment, you can't justify killings, murder in any way isn't entirely good, it's understandable but it's not good

There can be stories where the Protag is driven by revenge cuz their family was unfairly executed which can be good but then some of them ended up putting the same things on others like them (Making the clan's execution happen to someone else), it's just totally fucked up and the Protag being glorified for it is just shitty to me, that's why I would say if the crimes are committed by a number of people, then that number of people should be punished, don't drag innocent lives into this bullshit

cant send this on anon. sad! anyways i think the point of pattons arc is to accept that the others have importance. learning to not bottle up his feelings was the first step to fixing a larger issue about himself, that being that he tries to put all responsibility of himself. and that manifests in a lot of ways, including not respecting the others and their roles.

but then you get to the end of pof, and after janus resigns to being wrong about everything, patton says that they both know that's not true. that to me signifies that something shifted in him after pof. thats him directly recognizing that janus was right. that selfishness was the right choice, that janus is important. and this is a direct consequence of janus pointing out his flaws to him (when he turns back into a human he admits that he doesn't know what hes doing and he cant pretend that he does anymore. which is a direct response to when he resolves to make sure thomas isnt a bad person in svs)

does that mean he's good at it? no. not at all. but i do think hes trying. given that hes already had a major breakdown in a video i cant see the same happening for the finale but he should definitely take time to acknowledge the others roles. maybe he can talk logan/orange down and tell him that the rage he feels is justified and important to thomas? something like that. i would love it if remus got a chance to be involved but i have the bad feeling hes gonna be the designated one dimensional comedic relief. which i kinda get why but also come the fuck on. anyways thats my two cents idk

i absolutely agree with everything you said. this is patton's arc. his arc isn't "i'm too nice and i need to stop being too nice" HELL NO that's not his arc whatsoever and there is no indication of that being his arc even though people constantly pretend that's his arc. NO. his arc is that he needs to learn that he is not the end-all-be-all of thomas' mind, and that he is not always the most important voice in the conversation. though he doesn't have overstated hubris, how highly he thinks of himself and how lowly he thinks of the others is blatantly obvious through his actions, and he's slowly getting better at, like, NOT doing that and it's really good change to see! he still has a...long...long...LONG way to go, but at least he's going somewhere. i just wish people would acknowledge this super interesting journey instead of watering patton down and being super fucking annoying whenever i try to critique him the tiniest bit.

I don't know who's going to see this, if it'll be seen at all, but I wanted to ask this question somewhere and maybe get one or two answers.

This is directed to the Lunime Gacha Community, so I'm not expecting some positive answers from them (I just had a past idea that got absolutely crapped on so I'm a bit skeptical, that's all), but feel free to provide your points of views. I just need to know the different perspectives and how to approach these things on my end, so whether you're for or against it, I'm willing to take it into account.

(although don't blame me if I start arguing with you if I feel that my point wasn't understood)

Anyways, the question I have at hand...

How would you feel if someone criticized your series/mini movie?

I do want you guys to read the rest of this blog, too, as this question has a lot of open-ended questions or can lead to certain assumptions.

It's something I've always wanted to do for a long while, but I've been putting it off since... you know... criticizing stories made from a younger generation that most likely had little to no experience with creating a story? Really?

But regardless of that backlash, I love helping others, and if it's through writing a story (something I'm extremely passionate about, especially since I've been writing for over 13+ years), that'd be even better. Additionally, I know this sounds kinda bad, but I believe that criticism can be given to anyone regardless of age, experience, and other factors. Of course, as long as it's not "criticism" that specifically targets and belittles certain group.

Which, I think that might be the reason why I'm always cowarding away from doing this---I feel like the term "criticism" lost its meaning over the years and it's almost used like another adjective for hating and/or gatekeeping certain works. In this case, I guess it's only proper to define it in my point of view.

Criticism to me is a form of grading and teaching. The criticizer would find flaws in the work, explain why it's not as great as the artist may see it as, and offer ways to improve. Of course, just like teaching a group of people, criticizing should only be choosing the most problematic and discuss different ways to get to the solution, and this should be done with little to no feelings attached. Being biased would only lead to unfair treatment, in which case would only cause more problems than solutions. Of course, this doesn't mean going full villain mode either as that doesn't do anything other than agitate the other party---unless that is the choice the criticizer decided to go with yet still has the same value as what I've said above.

That's a lot to take in, but criticism is a bit complicated too. I mean, it's more in terms of perspective of how it is given and received, and a good majority tend to receive criticisms as if it's another hate mail.

But, keeping an open mind, I do wonder if this kind of definition shown to the community would be accepted. I mean, I've been a ghost in the Lunime Gacha Community just as long as I've been writing (whenever Anime Gacha came out), so I've seen a lot of bad, bad, bad things happen here. And because of those terrible situations, the community, I feel, had gotten a lot more defensive and tend to jump the gun more faster than most.

I mean, to be fair, that's probably like every community out there, and I can't really blame them. Who wants a community with those types of people roaming around?

Anyways, if you actually read this, thanks. Lemme know your thoughts cuz I wanna proceed with this with a bit more insight from other people that's been, I guess, more nitty-gritty with the community.

Might be deleting this blog too, unless I either forget or feel like it's fine keeping up. I don't know. I'm always on and off about this idea. Not to mention I want to make this as some kind of career (not the whole criticizing a bunch of nonprofessional stories if possible but at least in the editing department), and maybe this can be a practice for me? Inspired by the recent puppy post from Motley Zoo and my undying love for animals, here's what I think each of the ghouls/ghoulettes would keep as a pet :

Phantom : He saw someone walking their dog his first week topside and made it his life mission to get one. After a lot of research and internal debate, he ended up adopting a pitbull/labrador mix from a local shelter. Her name is Petunia and she's the definition of sweet baby angel.

Mountain : He decided to fully commit to the farm boy aesthetic and he got himself some quails. They have their own coop and fenced little garden. They used to be have free range on the entire gardens but they'd always end up eating his vegetables. They look like tiny little chicks when he's holding them. He lets the other ghouls choose their name which unfortunately got him stuck with one called Cum. His favourite was affectionately named Nugget by Swiss.

Aether : Bunny. Tiny little miniature one too, all white except for a small black spot on its nose. It's free to roam around his room and Aether learned the hard way to hide any and all loose cables (more than once). He named it Dust. Because Dust Bunny. He swears it's funny.

Rain : AXOLOTL. She's albino and he named her Rose because of her pink little frill gills. He can understand her somehow, some weird water creature thing. She has a very simple brain tho and mostly screams at him for food. Dew and Swiss love to draw mustaches and hats on her tank with markers.

Dew : He has a black cat named Purrcifer. The cute little thing just started following him one day and Dew can't seem to get rid of him (not that he tried too hard). He says it's the Ministry's cat cuz he spends all day roaming around the ground and hunting mice, but the cat definitely sleeps in his bed every night.

Swiss : He swore he'd never get a pet, he's too unfocused to remember to take care of one properly. Until he accompanied Rain on a trip to the pet store and spotted a ball python. Love at first sight, just look at that puppy face. He spent weeks doing research and was pleased to learn that they only eat like once a week? Maybe every two weeks? That's perfect. He got a huuuge female and named her Fluffy. Fluffy is his pride and joy.

Aurora : Ferret. She wanted a cat at first but she discovered that they came in noodle format and was like !!!YES!!! She taught him fetch. They play with paper balls. He's stolen other ghouls' snacks on multiple occasions.

Sunshine : She really wanted a chameleon but she saw how high maintenance the suckers are and settled for a crested gecko. It doesn't officially have a name because it wouldn't recognize it anyway. Definition of no thought, head empty. Most times, she calls it NO STOP DON'T JUMP THERE. She loves it so fuckin much.

Cumulus : She has the cutest blue budgie. She taught it so many tunes that they sing together all day long. It loves nothing more than to hang on her shoulder all day and watch her do her tasks. One of its many favourite sounds to imitate is the ringtone of whoever's in the room with them. No one knows how it learned to differentiate them all.

Cirrus : She set up a pretty little saltwater tank in her room. It's home to two clownfish and their anemone. They're called Led Zeppelin and Metallica, no she will not take criticism on the name. The tank is very beautifully decorated and everyone keeps bugging her to put up a big one in the common room, which she always refuses cuz she doesn't trust any of them with salt water.

birthdaymassacre is the first thing that comes to mind, though i wouldn't mind dipping my toes into the moonriver a lil either. i've also had this one really distinct yagamane fic idea plotted out for a while now, so we'll see if i ever get around to expanding that into a proper fic instead of like. two pages of notes LMFAO

in terms of non-romantic relationships, i am Always wanting to expand on wammy's house stuff, particularly in terms of lawlight interacting w/ meronia. The Potential. it's There. also more beyond-- getting a physical copy of LABB has really gotten me back into all of His shit again recently lolol.

hmm smallest in what sense? i suppose in the very short term, posting this fic i'm currently in the process of doing final edits on (it'll be out in a couple hours lol). this question is tough cuz i feel like most if not all of my writing goals are some kind of long-term practice thing =3=" i guess Get Weirder maybe counts. i've grown to really like superegos over the last few weeks since i feel like it ended up being a really interesting twist on the usual sex robot tropes (interesting to me, anyway) and i hope i can do something similar again. there's an honesty that i genuinely feel like i can't get at unless i allow my writing to be fully weird and/or off-putting to the degree that i want it to be, so. also-- really Committing to writing some proper horror. though that gets a bit into the next question...

i have been Frothing at the mouth wanting to write the meronia sequel to praise the sweetness after K put the idea in my head however many months ago. thx for that. after my DJRBB fic this is my Top priority for fic writing moving forward. i fear talking about this in much more depth since i haven't gotten much down get and my ideas will inevitably change (also latent paranoia that the more i talk about something the more likely it is the fic will bury itself away to die a quiet death in my drafts. can't talk too much they can smell it and panic easily) but. yeah :)) putting mello thru the cult torment nexus 👍

also might post a little birthdaymassacre ficlet but We'll See, i'm still deciding if i want to commit to expanding on that or not.

🪩 Do you have any "good" writing habits you want to cultivate?

writing regularly!! and watching my tenses. screams. mostly just writing regularly. i think i got into a decent schedule last quarter but my classes are gonna change again after break so i'll probably have to re-figure my fic writing time again depending on how busy i get. the goal is always a little bit daily but frankly i don't invest too much in that while school is active since i don't want to totally exhaust myself or turn this into a chore that i hate. i feel like most other writing goals/improvement comes down to this though, thinking about writing means jack shit for me unless i actually try and Do It once in a while. i should also probably try to critically read my old shit to see what things i'd like to work on but, eh. we'll see.

I see a lot of people saying that phighting story is bad bc the devs keep adding new stuff instead of expanding the pre existing lore, and while I do agree that having not a lot of lore available can be frustrating, u guys need to understand that phighting is in ALPHA. A lot of the world-building/characters are gonna be underdone at the moment because of this. The current plan from what I’ve read is to finish making 26 phighters before starting on story mode, which should reveal most if not all the lore. On top of this, soda is writing a comic to reveal a lot of other lore related things that won’t be relevant in game. Another thing is that last I checked (correct me if im wrong), phighting currently only has 3 DEVS working on the ENTIRE GAME. I think that’s crazy!!!!!!! the dedication to make a whole ass game with 3 people of this quality without getting paid just for funsies is insane!!!!!!

It’s ok to point out the worldbuilding flaws but I think it’s kinda annoying to point them out when a lot of the worldbuilding isn’t actually there. That’s like critiquing a half baked pie. It’s not finished yet!!!! And, personally I think it’s really cool and actually a good thing that they’re prioritizing the actual game instead of the lore. They’re adding new characters to make the game better, and the lore for all of them will be expanded eventually. Also also, if they were to finalize the lore now, they wouldn’t be able to add new stuff at all!!! Adding new characters is kinda the best thing they can do until they start on story mode. I think it makes perfect sense esp from a game developing stand point. Rushing them or telling them to work on lore is just kinda redundant and unhelpful. They’ll get to it eventually and I’d rather have a good game than sooner lore reveals. I think it speaks to the integrity of the devs (game development wise, ik soda defended a groomer 💀) for them to continuously put the quality of the game over the lore for it. Not saying you can’t have both but again, if they started finalizing and honing in on lore rn they wouldn’t be able to add new stuff later. also like,,,not trying to say u can’t criticize the game but at the end of the day this is their project, they can take their time with it and write the story however they want, and some of y’all need to sit the phuck down cuz I’m tired of seeing lectures attacking the devs for honestly good design choices. At the end of the day phighting is currently a pvp game, not a story game, so the lore shouldn’t be their first priority at all anyways?? And really, I hate when ppl say that bc I think we all know how much the writing can make or break a game and how important it is, but u guys are being way too serious about this, esp since the devs already plan on adding more lore. This level of criticism is srsly unjustified imo. Even if they gave up development all together (it is a passion project afterall), I still think they would’ve made a great game and it definitely wouldn’t have fallen into the issue of adding too many new features without expanding upon the main stuff. Everything added so far seems to just be improvements. This even applies to choices outside of the lore. ok this rant was long lol oops ily take care

I’m gonna rank the couples in The Lunar Chronicles and explain why because I’m immensely bored I apologize in advance. And also just because it’s in a lower position doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing like there are only 4 spots-

4th PLACE

WOLFLET- it’s the whole alpha thing that caused this I’m sorry like they need a lil more screen time and a lot less calling each other alpha. But I did really love them just not in the book Scarlet. I loved them in Cress and Winter when they were separated and it was just immense amounts of pining and I think they’re the most solid/loyal couple in the series like they’d do anything for each other and I love that. Honestly they’re a top tier couple and I wish we got more time with them like SOSN was peak because we got to see them being domestic and like adjusting I loved it. If they were put up against most other couples then they’d win I swear

3RD PLACE

CRESSWELL-these two were almost in 4th actually cuz they’re one of my least favourite tropes where it’s like “experienced suave guy who’s so hot and elite and older” and like “naive girl who’s never left her house and this is in fact the first human she’s spoken too” but somehow they made it enjoyable like I loved how she was like his sight in Cress and how well they work together. He also helps her come out of her shell and know her worth. I also love the fact that he’s a slut in recovery. They’re also the funniest couple and they also had the most slow burn which I enjoyed and I loved their ending. They’re very fun and again in any other circumstance in other list they’d be higher up (I also don’t like that Thorne’s 20+ and she’s 16 like it’s a lil weird-)

2ND PLACE

JACINTER-ok I’m kinda sad I put them in second and not first but yeah they’re my babies. They’re the best amalgamation of tropes I’ve ever seen like they’re childhood best friends to lovers, they’re forbidden love, they’re sun x moon (LISTEN HEAR ME OUT ON THIS), they’re grumpy x sunshine. I also love how much they genuinely adore each other and fight for each other to be safe as much as possible. They also have immense amounts of chemistry and tension in every scene they’re in. I also love that even though Winter is obviously the most vulnerable one in the relationship it doesn’t feel like he’s constantly doting on her like it feels equal like she doesn’t feel like a child being taken care of because of her mental health. I could talk about them hours like the pining the immense pining and the way they talk about and to each other it’s so beautiful like I miss them sm and they’re not popular enough like they’re the cutest I also have a headcanon that when they both move to Earth Jacin eventually retires from being her bodyguard and goes to medical school and they get to grow old somewhere where it always snows.

1ST PLACE

KAIDER- I love them they’re my favourite book couple ever actually like they’re like the first couple I ever genuinely shipped. And they were perfect in EVERY BOOK LIKE I WAS STRAPPED ON THIS TRAIN WITH THEM THEYRE SO ENDEARING AND PERFECT. Like ugh I genuinely had no notes on them for like bad stuff that I didn’t like. Like as I’m typing I’m think of criticism??? They’re so loyal to each other it’s makes me wanna BAWL AND THEYRE SO IN LOVE IT JUST YES. One of the main reasons I love them is because we had the two of them for so long like in Cinder it was only two POVs (if you don’t count Dr. Erland) and we got to see how they felt constantly and they’re such lil idiots and I love them like they’re it. I also love how much they compliment each other and bring out the best parts in the other if that makes sense like Kai learns a lot from her.They did almost lose to Jacinter tho and it came VERY CLOSE

So!!!!!!!!! i literally only have half of a design for the two of these ocs, i've only drawn one of them ONCE and i don't count it cuz i wanna redesign him COMPLETELY (that piece is not even canon, i had to do that for a class so i put stuff in there that doesn't even belong to the type of story it is </3), i've written for the two of them a couple times but im not even sure THAT'S canon anymore

i think the writing might still be canon tho, i do still kinda like a lot of the stuff it went over with that. N E WAYS.

basically there's this pair of witches (they don't. really have. names. oops. they did but i don't like them anymore) who enlisted and then eventually rose to the top of fighting this war/apocalypse/encroaching disaster that has been ongoing for a LONG time. like, they're at the end of the world but turns out the end of the world is a hell of a lot slower than anyone imagined. they've been fighting it for a long time (and it does involve actual fighting? like i like to think that this apocalypse acts more as like. locust swarm but the bugs are big big buggy boys that hates you hates you hates you and eats the magic out of the world)

and the first (we'll call him A) is the one who rose up in the ranks to be best of the best very quickly, because his kind of magic is very powerful and was critically effective in the fight. and the second guy (we'll call him B) is kind of. worst of the best. SORT OF. he was best of the best because he fought alongside A and B's brand of magic explicitly deals with the bond the two of them shared. (i call it bonds magic cuz i can't think of something better for now) (yes it's power of friendship) (there more to that but whatever) it was IMMENSELY powerful!!! not moreso than A's magic, but still!! very powerful!!! so B rose up because A pulled him up (not entirely true!!! but you get the point. nuance)

BUT THEN. sometime after they had been in the war for a long ass time, A leaves. either from shame, either he's disillusioned, something happened, he won't say. and just kind of. leaves B behind. who still is very much part of the war and won't say anything to sway A's mind because he cares too much about what he thinks

years later, B's still part of the war/doom effort. and magic in the world has kind of deteriorated so much that it's. honestly kind of hard to come across a solid magic user these days. they still teach them and still get people to join the effort, but compared to the older days, it's a lot less. people can learn magic, everyone can, but it's hard to get like. a professional, someone who has unlocked the higher abilities of magic. people like A or B.

speaking of! yeah. B is still part of the war effort. and it's NOW at the period of time where he's the worst of the best, but he's the only one they've got. they still keep him around because who else is there, really, and also he can still utilize the powerful bond magic he made way back when with A, so he's still very powerful but it's just. different. ya know? he's standing in the shadow of just the IDEA of A, and he's not even here anymore. and it's not filled with resentment, never. never resentment. he could never tarnish that. it's only ever love. and looking up to A. it didn't feel like he cast a shadow because to B, to him, he only ever cast light.

but also. A left. left him. alone.

so he's dealing with that in a perfectly reasonable manner (not thinking about it)

meanwhile A has decided to live a pastoral life away from the apocalypse and is totally not repressing his issues either. <3.

and like!!! the council or whatever that's in charge of all the witches is like "hey. B. you know your way cooler friend? you still keep in touch right?" and sends him off to go find A again after all these years to bring him back to the war and there's a whole mess of meeting again and having to meet with all the things you left unsaid, and all the everything and OOUAOUGHFF it's a whole mess.

anyways i want to make this a comic but also i kind of need to. yknow. design and draw the comic if i want to make the comic. so like. rage.

Sinsmas short thoughts

I'll go into my thoughts on season 2 as a whole at a later date. This is just for the episode. This season's certainly been a rollercoaster, tho.....to the point where I might have to rewatch the whole thing in order to sort out how I feel about it as a whole. I adore this show, but not gonna lie, sometimes the quality jumps between episodes....XD B-but, uh, anyway-

-I...I really wish they hadn't spoiled that one line from Octavia in the trailer, not gonna lie. Cuz of that, I was able to predict exactly what'd happen with her in this episode after the last one ended. I'm not mad at her, I COMPLETELY understand why she'd come to that conclusion, and I do think this will help Stolas grow next season....but it still hurt. Even when I called it, it hurt. Her song hurt, too (altho I loooooove how it calls back to Loo Loo Land). I just think it would've been even more effective if they'd kept this whole thing hidden. Not really a critique of the episode, tho, rather a critique of whoever puts the trailers together. XD

-I AM looking forward to Stolas' arc next season, even if it might be hard to watch in places. He's honestly one of my fav characters now. I'm glad he's accepting responsibility for his own choices, and that moment where he tells Moxxie he doesn't need to call him "your highness" anymore was nice, but he's still got a long way to go. I'm looking forward to him working at I.M.P, and interacting with the other main characters. I think he and Moxxie especially will get along great. I wanna see episodes that focus on Stolas bonding with each one (a Stolas and Moxxie episode, a Stolas and Loona episode, etc.) Stolas is a good person who was just sheltered and friendless practically his whole life, so all that needs to happen for him to lose the unintentional classism is just to make friends and connect with other imps besides Blitzo. Season 3, when it comes, will hopefully be the time to silence Stolas doubters. I trust the show to do that!

-Stolitz was cute here, I loved the dance, and one of my fav things about the episode was how nice it is to see a more wholesome side to Blitzo. You can tell he's trying to be supportive, and how he's no longer being a prickly tsundere when it comes to his feelings, while still being in-character, which is great to see.

-Viv has some serious guts to add that scene of Blitzo refusing to shoot that guy after seeing him happy with his family. I personally don't have a problem with that scene. I even like it. It shows how, uh......m-mature Blitzo is becoming....? W-well.....m-more empathetic, I guess is the better way of putting it.....b-but at the same time, I saw that scene and I could practically SEE "critics" attacking the show as being "pro-cheating" again, like back when it was popular to defend Stella..... "Why is this show portraying the man who cheated on her sympathetically, huh?" Th-those arguments....

-The action was great as always, I love how they sneaked in some foreshadowing with Millie choosing to use a ranged weapon rather than a melee one, Stolas punching Andrealphus mid-monologue was satisfying as HECK, Loona suddenly transforming as if she could do that the whole time, Blitzo calling Andrealphus "Elsa"......it was all perfect. The only thing that scene was missing was, when Andrealphus was yelling at Octavia to stand down, Blitzo should've spoken up and told him to "Let it go". Missed opportunity....*sigh*

-Even if the trailers spoiled Octavia's anger at Stolas, there WAS one major thing they DIDN'T spoil, and I'm so so so grateful they didn't, cuz I was SOOOOO SHOCKED at it in the best way....M-Millie.....oh god....Sh-should I be happy for her....? But....why is she panicking....? Does she not....want it.....? I-I mean, I know her job demands a lot outta her, and she'll have to start....sitting jobs out, and she loves her job.....Is that why she panicked....? That's why, right.....? I-I have no idea how this is gonna go, and THAT'S the thing I'm most excited to see continue next season. Stolitz is great and all, but THIS has got me on the edge of my seat cuz.....yeah, I have no idea what's gonna happen. I don't think she has to worry about Moxxie's reaction, at least....but....job-wise? Episode-wise? Her role in the season, her dynamics with everyone, will a lot of it change now? Will she be giving stuff she loves up, or will there be a compromise? I dunno....It's just, when you have someone like Millie- MILLIE, who values her battle prowess SO much- and put her in this position....Yeah, I really am just drawing a blank right now.....
