Kimetsu no Yaiba Character Designs: of Kny Girls, Thoughts and Breakdown

I’m just a huge nerd when it comes to character designs, and I think Kimetsu no Yaiba has did rlly well on that. I especially like how artistic and varied the designs of the female characters are. So here, I'm going to talk about their visuals, as well as my own thoughts on it as an artist!

So here is my take on the characters designs of kny girls! Given some of my knowledge as a design student who took a short course on character design, I wanna talk abt my thoughts in the design, how it relates to the character of the girls, and what I like and don’t like about it. Keep in mind that this is for fun, and I might also express my personal thoughts on their style and aesthetics, bc I like to think I have some semblance of fashion sense (lol), and also bc I believe style and aesthetics also connect to character design in one way or another.

Sooo let’s start w Nezuko!

-Cute, wild, but also modified to be more practical (given her circumstances), those are the first two things that come to mind.

-I love the whole black and pink and red color scheme

-I like how her outfit is really just a simple kimono, but the slight modifications on her outfit make it visually interesting. It really shows her transition from a regular human to a demon girl. The little details, like how her skirt more open, to free up her legs for battle, considering how a kimono skirt has a restraining vibe to it.

-her hair gradient is symbolic visual of her human and demon side, how she tethers between the two.

-Her hair creates a wavy-ish silhouette, which expresses her dangerous/erratic side as a demon, Silhouettes are very important in character design, and can tell a lot about the personality of the characters. The red gradient shows her hidden fiery side (and her relation to the hinokami kagura), and obviously, the focus on her design, which is the bamboo on her mouth, all of which shows that she’s dangerous

-but despite this, there are cute details on her outfit which creates a contrast, like the ribbons on her hair, and the shape of her footwear, which is round and chunky. I think it provides a nice visual contrast to the fact that she is also dangerous and would kick your ass. The fact that her kimono is baby pink makes me feel that I want to take care of her.

-The leaf pattern on her kimono is a Hemp Leaf (Asanoha). It is frequently associated with growth and child health, this could possibly symbolize her caring and nurturing personality, especially towards her younger siblings. (aw)

-Or, it could be a symbolism of the growth of her own demon abilities

-The only thing that bothers me personally is that she doesn’t look like she has taken a bath, or changed out of those clothes in YEARS.

Kanao

I like the lace boots, and the white and pink color scheme that makes the pink pop more

-A very simple and subtle design, the silhouette is pretty basic, but her side ponytail does make it recognizable

-Personally, it also looks a little plain for my liking, but I think it does make sense for her character. Since Kanao has always had trouble expressing herself, it does make sense how it could reflect on her clothing choices (now I feel sad thinking about this) but still, a few adjustments would surely improve her overall look.

-I do like the subtle bits of asymmetry on her design though, like her side ponytail and the ribbon on her cape and sword. Asymmetry is something that is highly encouraged in character design, and its the most obvious in Kanao’s getup. Generally I do feel that kny could use some more asymmetry for its other characters.

-From her outfit, she seems like the younger sibling that wears hand me downs, because her hair pin once belonged to Kanae, and the design of her sword, which is flower breathing, was the technique Kanae once used.

-I prefer the sword design of the manga version more. The color scheme matches her hairpin, and the color of the flowers matches her eyes, when she uses her scarlet spider eyes technique.

-The cloak is fastened by a flower knot! (cute!) making it ever consistent with her flower breathing theme.

-I do wish there could be a bit more going on with her cloak though. It looks very under designed, maybe there could be a subtle pink gradient, or a more unique "flower-like" cloak, to show her connection to Kanae, just anything to not make her cloak look like a towel because its too flat. It would also be nice if they would continue that same pattern on her lace boots, make her overall look more consistent.

Shinobu

-ara ara

-This is peak design, easily a 12/10. It’s one of my personal favorites alongside Mitsuri. I love her flowy and elegant style, and how she embodies the butterfly aesthetic. What her design really did well is the repetition of patterns, all the little details on her are all related to butterflies. BUTTERFLIES! what more can I say, down to her hair pin, and haori and even her leg wraps, all the patterns, are consistent all throughout. Not many people can pull of her outfit the way she does, sadly, bc of how bulky it can look at times

-In the manga, her eyes have crisscross patterns that resemble an insect, befitting on an insect pillar. I’m disappointed that the anime removed that.

-The silhouette of her haori, especially when she’s gliding, feels very agile and delicate, which also reflects on her fighting style, which is less on brute strength, and more on precision, It also reflects on her sword design, which is thin and needle like. The size of the haori emphasizes how petite she is.

-her color scheme is a bit more on the subtle side, You gotta look past the details to appreciate the gradient on her haori, and the like. I also like that her hair is tied neatly, bc it puts more emphasis on her butterfly clip and haori

-The butterfly motif in general, represents, resurrection, endurance, hope and life. This shows through Shinobu’s own perseverance despite her disadvantage in her strength as a swordsman, and also the general fleetingness of her life. (sad in hindsight)

-also on the matter of butterflies, I was told that some butterflies are toxic, which suits her duality with medicine and poisons, reflecting her design motif. It really shows the dual nature of her character.

-Her sword design kind of looks like insect wings too now that I think about it.

-If I do have one critic, it is that her hair gradient looks a bit dull, and her butterfly clips colors also ( idk, blue and purple is kind of a boring scheme) maybe the colors of the hair pin could the same as the haori, so that it would look more consistent. The colors of her sword also doesn’t pop as much I would have liked it to.

Mitsuri

-WATERMELON QUEEN!

-Also one of my personal favorites! I love her style, reminds me of an art student (which she is, in kimegakuen!). Aside from that, she reminds me of a Shoujo heroine, which brings me nostalgia of my pink and magical girl phase, until society told me that being girly girl sucks and I needs to "mature" so I have to hide what I like.

-But hey, Mitsuri’s character is all about going against those expectations imposed upon her, and it shows in her appearance, which is why her design is well thought of, not to mention inspiring too!

-I initially hated that cleavage window but now, I do see how it completes the look. The shape of her braids creates this rounded shape, which expresses her sweet personality. The fact that her braids are so exaggeratedly big is done on purpose, it is to emphasize the silhouette. In character design, some proportions are made bigger and smaller on purpose for this exact reason. The curvy silhouette is further emphasized when her whip-like blade is out. Curves are associated with emotions which indicates, how Mitsuri is someone motivated by her emotions.

-The design really did well in terms of visual continuity, the gradient of her long braids just leads you down to her cleavage (lol) and her sword handle, which has little hearts on it! Did I mention her braids itself looks like hearts too, really befitting of a love pillar, and shows are quirky she is! 

-Extending past her braids are her stockings. The stripes and the continuity of her color scheme, elongates and puts emphasis on her legs, which makes sense cuz her fighting style has lots of legwork!. The little ribbons on her ankles are a cute detail too. It is a simple yet striking design, and sometimes you got to look past her color scheme to really appreciate the details in it.

-The design of her sword guard is a four leaf clover (Katabami Leaf), this symbolizes luck, hope, and love, which also relates to Mitsuri’s love for many things. I saw some of MetiNotTheBadGuy 's analysis and It also be a reference to the crest of the Katabami clan, a clan that created its own form of martial arts, similar to how she created the Breath of Love. It represents how Mitsuri turn her feelings of love into a weapon that she can use to help others.

-Gotoge also did well with the pink and green. Complimentary color scheme can be a hit or miss depending on how you apply it, put too much and its going to look painful, but with Mitsuri, Gotoge was aware to make her uniform and haori plain, so as it balance out her colors and make the focus of her design (hair, sword and stockings, pop out more)

-I think the adding white to her color scheme is cute, bc it adds to Mitsuri's food related motifs, not only does her hair represent the sakura mochis that she ate, but she also embodies the colors of hanami dango! One of her fav foods! 🍡

-But still, I wish the Haori could have a bit more design. It was apparently suppose to be Rengoku’s keepsake, but it felt like an afterthought because it lacked interesting visual. Maybe if the haori has a bit more subtle design to it, it would be better, like some texture, or perhaps play around with its shape, just like with rengokus haori (so they can match)

-Also, while I do love her hair, I think it would be better if there's a bit of yellow between her hair gradient for a smoother visual transition!

-Overall still a great design, 9/10, her cute and quirky outfit, shows how unique, sweet, romantic, and artistic she is.

Overall

Though I did have some personal opinions about the styles and aesthetics, the fact that their appearance tells a lot about their character really shows how good the character designs are. I think Gotouge really nailed it, down to the motifs, details, and the silhouette of each of these girls!

oh wow i have no idea whats going on with this show. I’m so intrigued and so lost and ive just been reading through theory posts going oooooooh yeah omg maybe but here’s my questions at least (im gonna try to put a read more bc its kind of a lot) (and check the tw at the end and please lmk if i missed smth)

I mean mainly, where are Martha and Nora? I feel like Nora has to be alive or Rachel would be more obviously devastated than she is, and sort of along the same lines with Toni / Martha. I wouldn’t think either of them could be so calm if the other girls weren’t alive.

however, i was definitely intrigued by the post saying Martha could have actually died after not getting the medicine, and they’ve been hallucinating her since then. it definitely bothered me that the fact she was almost dying was resolved without saying anything the next episode, which took place (i think) a few days later. one theory i really dont like is the insinuation that instead of the goat they were eating Martha in the last ep bc thats wayyy too fucked up for me and also like Martha was (at least in Shelby/Toni’s mind) on that walk with them to find food so although i suppose they could have hallucinated her i just dont think so

my personal theory for Martha is that she’s just incapacitated somewhere—maybe she was injured in the final moments and had to be taken to a hospital or smth, and shes unable to give an interview. I gotta say tho, the bit with the box of all her stuff definitely makes it seem like she either died or went missing—another theory i had was that Alex (p sure that was his name) had something to do with her disappearance and maybe brought her to that other island with all the boys on it. like its also improbable but like isn’t every theory to be taken loosely 🤪

I’ve seen theories saying oh, Shelby had her allergic reaction bc she put her retainer down on the table where dot had put her seafood but like that seems kinda like a stretch to me. how could they possibly have planned something like that out? unless Nora had some tell all before whatever happened to get them off the island, i dont know how they possibly could have planned that. the possibility they would be in the same room, the exact spot on the table, even the fact dot had access to seafood at all seems too much of a stretch. so in that case, was she faking it? how could she know the right time to do it? a lot of my questions have to do with the logistics of their plans lmao

one theory ive definitely latched on to it that more time has passed on the island than they thought. its possible that it was just an editing mistake having rachel’s amputated hand look so healed, especially while their faces were all still healing from the sunburns, bc while sun burns do take awhile to heal in my experience (like 2 or 3 weeks even sometimes) and also idrk how amputations work but it seems unlikely it could look so healed so quickly. I do think that it’s possible the girls have been drugged again at least once since being taken off the island—its clearly been shown Gretchen has the capability to drug them, so it’s definitely possible she did it again.

what i really want to know is if the girls know what is going on. does Nora tell them? I think one thing they’d really want to know is what happened to Jeanette—that was likely extremely traumatic for them and they deserve to know what happened to her. do they tell her family? obviously her and Alex were close, is he gonna betray Gretchen in some way? he obviously blames himself for her death (which makes sense since like he almost saved her but didnt)

I’d also like to see the boys island storyline resolved—like quite honestly wtf is going on there? is it the same island or a different one? are they as in the dark as the girls were or do at least some of them know what’s happening? do they go all lord of the flies or are they able to operate in relative harmony too? i hated lord of the flies so i hope that asshole is proved wrong.

Rip backstory is my favorite and I sure have a lot of it lmao

Rip’s mother was Barbra “Barb” Bloom, and she died when he was 9 (his brother Chuck was 11). But up to that point, Rip actually had a pretty good childhood. Barb also has a power, she was pretty sure, but it was so nebulous she could neither prove nor quite define it--either the ability to always find what she was looking for, or simply being in the right place at the right time, one of the two. Break didn’t believe it, and she didn’t bring it up a lot, since again, she couldn’t really explain the feelings she got, she just knew that some moments were special.

When Rip first started seeing things, she thought he was just being an imaginative kid, but then she realized it could actually be magic when she noticed that like... Rip doesn’t really have that great of an imagination. He’s more analytical, he doesn’t really color outside the lines or tell lies or get in trouble. Idk how to explain it, but sometimes ppl just seem like the type to say anything, you know? And then there’s ppl you can’t imagine ever lying or doing anything crazy or anything like that.

Anyway, so they were in it together while she was alive, and he had her there to talk about what he was seeing. But then she died, and Rip took it very hard. Everyone did, but Rip lost the one person he could really talk about magic with. And on top of that, he didn’t even know if he believed in magic anymore, bc if Barb was in the right place at the right time, she wouldn’t have been hit by that car, would she? So he doesn’t know what to believe, bc if she was wrong about her magic, then was she wrong about his? How does he know that he’s not just crazy? And he can’t talk to Break about it, bc Break does not believe. Chuck doesn’t really, either, but he’s nicer about it.

So that all leads to sort of a downward spiral as Rip grows up, bc he doesn’t always trust his perceptions. And that leads to the desperation to just jump thru a flyway when he’s 17, he was really not in a good place at the time. I touched on it in my other post, but he was gone for a couple weeks, and Break legitimately thought he was dead. And then when he tried to explain about the flyways and getting lost, of course that just pissed off Break even more bc it’s just more of Rip’s bullshit, right? So Rip eventually just says he ran away and then came back when he ran out of money (which is kinda-sorta the truth, if you strip the magic out). So Break’s furious with him (and so is Chuck), he’s grounded forever... But that’s actually a good turning point for him, bc he met Lilliana. And after the flyways, and Lilliana giving him some (begrudging) answers, he knows he’s not crazy. His friendship with Lilliana only lasts a few months, but by the time she cuts him off he’s friends with Finn, who may not believe him but also doesn’t fight him at every turn when he brings up magic, he’s more like lmao ok buddy whatever you say, which is honestly better than what Rip gets at home. And Finn does come around awhile to like wait no shit, really? For real? Which Rip can’t really believe but he’s so grateful.

Anyway so that’s up to 1989. Fast forward a couple years to 1991. Finn and Anne have been together for awhile, but Finn’s kind of like... He doesn’t want to break up with Anne, he still loves her a lot, but since their relationship has to be a secret, and it can’t really be any other way, it’s starting to wear on him. And he’s started to develop some romantic feelings for Rip that he wants to pursue, in part bc it would be much easier, honestly. But when he brings this up to Anne, she really doesn’t want to break up with him, either, so she says that he should just date Rip, too. And Finn’s like and... you’d be fine with that? And Anne’s like I will learn to be, anyway. And Finn’s not really sure if this will work or if Rip will even go for it. Rip is hesitant but he’s open to basically whatever so he’s like we can try it for awhile, I guess. Anne really makes an effort to be chill but it is hard on her and Rip’s like maybe we shouldn’t do this and Anne’s like I think the problem is that we don’t really know each other. Like Rip and Anne aren’t really friends, they’ve obviously met before but never really hung out one on one so Rip really knows her as Finn’s girlfriend, and she knows him as Finn’s weird friend. So they decide to start trying to get to know each other and be friends.

Rip doesn’t talk about any magic stuff with Anne for a couple reasons, one of which is that he doesn’t want to come off any weirder than he does when he’s trying to befriend the woman, and also bc she’s a royal and Rip does not care for royals. Not bc of anything politically, he just doesn’t think they are careful enough with magic and he doesn’t trust them with it. (He doesn’t trust anyone with magic, actually. Not humans, not fairies, not anyone.) So he has to give her the edited version of events when she’s like have you dated anyone before? And Rip’s like it wasn’t really dating but I did have a brief relationship with Lilliana Roxelle and Anne’s like. You mean the French supermodel? And Rip’s like yeah and Anne’s like how did you even meet her and he’s like I crashed her NYE party. And Anne doesn’t know what to make of him, bc it’s such a wild, specific thing to say that it could be a lie but it just feels like it’s true, bc why not say something more believable if you were going to lie? Anyway Rip’s more chill about not being believed at this point bc he has one person on his side again (Finn), so he just shrugs it off. And they just kinda move on and talk about their families and not getting along with their fathers, which are very different situations but it’s enough to commiserate over, and they just keep going like that.

And at the beginning of this, remember, Anne thinks of Rip as just Finn’s weird friend. She has no idea what he sees in Rip, romantically. (Or platonically, for that matter. Like he’s fun to hang out with but why not literally anyone else?) And Rip’s not super good looking, either. Like, he’s handsome enough, but you probably wouldn’t look at him twice. (He’s Break’s son, so that kinda limits how hot he can be lmao.) But he just has something about him. Like, when you talk to him, you get his full attention, he’s really supportive and sympathetic and he always feels like he gets what you’re going thru. So Anne starts to get it, and then she’s like wait am I catching feelings for this guy? THIS guy? And yeah, she is. So the three of them actually end up dating for awhile, which is a lot more complicated but they like each other enough to make it work.

However, meanwhile, Rip has met Calissa. And she’s a mermaid, and a queen, and she’s married, and she has a kid, but... Well. The heart wants what it wants. So Rip has to break it off with Finn and Anne. He can explain to Finn about Calissa, so they could maybe still date, but he can’t really tell Anne about a mermaid, and if he doesn’t tell her she’s a mermaid he doesn’t really have a good excuse for why they can’t ever meet this other girl and it just feels weird. And it’s already complicated, he can’t be in so many complicated relationships at once. And Anne’s really confused about why Rip would break it off, until he says that the girl he wants to see is already married, and Anne’s pissed that Rip would pursue something with a married woman. And he says he knows it’s wrong but... he’s gonna do it anyway. (He can’t exactly say that she’s not in love with her husband but can’t get a divorce bc she’s a queen and it would be a political nightmare... Which might not help, anyway, but at least it’s better than interfering in a loving marriage, right? Right?) Anyway, Anne thinks he’s not the man she thought he was and she doesn’t even want to be friends with him anymore. Finn still is, but they don’t hang out the three of them pretty much ever again.

Rip has his secret relationship with Calissa, she gets pregnant, and then they don’t really know what to do bc they don’t know if it’s Caligo’s baby and it’s fine or if it’s Rip’s baby and they need to panic. But as her pregnancy progresses, she’s pretty sure it’s Rip’s bc the baby’s movement feels different, she’s pretty sure the baby has legs and not a tail. So they really start to panic. Rip obviously wants to take the baby, but he can’t just show up at home with a random kid and say that hey btw my mermaid girlfriend gave birth. Break would think he was insane. Anyway so that’s when Rip gets the idea to fake his death, which he does. And he moves down the coast a ways and raises baby Merliah for about a year, until the Gloss Angeles guard track him down.

Cue botched execution and 17 year exile in Fairytopia, and then he returns to Earth in December 2012.

And life is actually... pretty damn good. He’s reunited with Calissa and Merliah, and his dad now knows he wasn’t lying about seeing fairies and meeting a mermaid and all of that. He has a lot to contend with, re-adjustment-wise, with how much the world has changed in the intervening time, and he also has 2 other daughters he had no idea about, and then Calissa gets pregnant with twins pretty fast so there’s a lot going on, but he’s used to chaos and having to learn about new environments so he takes it in stride, pretty much. He also reconnects with Finn (at Merliah and Kylie’s urging), so he even gets his old friend back.

And then, in 2016, a year post-RNR, Finn tells Anne that Rip’s alive. Which is in response to her telling him about keeping Sloane from him, and so he takes the opportunity to say I’ve actually been keeping something from you, too. (Idk if those two secrets are roughly equal, but for the characters I’m going to say they are.) And so Anne reconnects with Rip, too, and finally gets brought into the loop and learns about Rip’s powers and what really went down with him and Calissa and all of that. Which is a big shock but also he has some helpful advice about how to approach the situation with Sloane, having done it twice himself lmao. So honestly, everything comes up roses for Rip. He gets to live the rest of his life in quiet domesticity, which is all he ever really wanted.

The ONLY thing that kinda sucks is that due to how mermaids (and fairies) age, Calissa basically looks the same for their whole marriage. So as he gets older, she looks more and more like some young trophy wife, and he hates that anyone looking at him would think he’s some weird old man lmao. (He’s only 3 years older than her in actuality.) But that’s basically the only thing that sucks. Everything else in his life is very good, bc he deserves that goddammit.

OKAY SO MY PARANORMAN IDEA WAS THAT:

Like ok my idea is a little conflicted and it’s going to be in 2 parts because I have 2 other versions (or 1 since my 2nd version isn’t making sense and isn’t too thought out) to write and this one is already long. This version goes with the “oh MC went down Hades route and listened to Astraeus and she loves Alex yet she kills all the gods.” So going down that part of the idea is that:

She is in pain. She is scared. She doesn’t know what to do. That one raised hand meant everything to her. And Hades raised his hand,,,and was going to let her die. He was going to witness it. And she was scared. Petrified. And so she listens to Astraeus. It pains her to kill people she does care for, but she doesn’t know what else to do. And when she sees Alex not even wanting to help her (I can’t remember if they turned their back on her? I can’t remember my bad-), she loses it. She listens to Astraeus, takes the clothes he gives her, steals the artifacts, and kills the Gods. However, MC takes a death blow and she’s dying and only Alex is there to comfort her. They swore to always be there for her since they were kids, and they failed before, and they’re not going to fail again.

“MC, I’m so sorry,” they would whisper to her, voice shaking with emotion. They blame themselves but MC smiles at them and places a hand on their cheek. “It’s not your fault,” and then her face turns into an angry scowl, “it’s the GODS’ fault!” Alex winced at the anger in her voice. They’ve never heard it that loud and that roaring, but they still comfort her. They love her and they failed her, and in her last moments they hold her close to them, listening to her heart beat and her words as she speaks, and then she takes her last breath, and they wish they took their last breath with her.

And like,,lets just imagine the funeral happens, and Alex goes home and sleeps one night. I sincerely don’t know how to do the scene where Aggie and Norman meet in the spirit world (In a way???) for Alex and MC so,,they got there by sleeping lol. They’re at a beach and its sunset. They don’t know why they’re there, but they know it’s not a dream, so they look around. They see MC wearing the clothes she wore as she died, and she was standing in the ocean, the water only to her thighs. She’s staring at the sunset and it’s not even hurting her eyes. They walk over to her, not caring about getting wet, and they stand next to her. They look at her beautiful face and see tears streaking down her cheeks. They move their hand to wipe them away and she closes her eyes at the comfort. 

“This...this is where Hades proposed to me, you know?” Her voice is shaky and sounds a little distant but they push through and listen to her, like they should have done before. “It’s beautiful here.” They looked at the sunset and it truly was beautiful. If they were to propose to her, they would do it here as well. “We were so happy,” she said, voice getting quieter with every word. Alex knew she truly loved Hades and they knew Hades loved her, and so they can’t understand why he wouldn’t fight for her. Was it fear? Cowardly? Shame? They don’t know, but they can see why she’s in pain. They don’t know what to say to that, anger rising in their chest from all of this mess. They heard the water swish and looked back at MC to see her turning to face them. “Alex...I’m so sorry.” 

More tears slipped from her eyes and their eyes became blurry from their own tears. “I was so in love, but was I blinded? Was I an idiot to not see this coming? Why would he do this?” Her questions weren’t directed at Alex, she doesn’t even know who she wanted to ask. Alex would grab her hand and hate how cold it was. She looked down at their hands and saw how Alex’s grip was tight, but gentle. “Why?” Alex was confused for a moment. “Why what?” Her hand began to shake. “Why are you here? Comforting me. Why? I destroyed your family! I got rid of everything you care for.” She didn’t look back up at them, she was scared to look up at them. She loves them and they are family to her, and she has ruined that connection, there’s no doubt about it. However, Alex tilts her chin to make her look back at them. 

“Because I love you. You were blinded by anger and I see why. The God’s did a terrible action, not a mistake.  I disagree with your actions, yes, but I love you, MC.” Their words were rushed as well. MC finally looked back up at them and she was in shock. They love her? How did she not notice? She’s known Alex since they were both kids and knows Alex better than anyone else (other than their Mother and Nyela), so how did she not notice? “Alex...”. She didn’t know what else to say, so she only said the name of the last person she loves. “I’ve messed up. I’ve done something terrible. I’m gonna just end up in Tartarus and I see why,” she said with a small laugh at the end, even if they know it’s filled with sadness. “I went against everything I promised to never do. I always promised to forgive and help people, not do what they have done to me, but I’m just as bad as the Gods, Alex!” Her voice was now loud with despair. 

She believed she was now just like the Gods, even without becoming the Goddess that’s resting under her skin. Well, that was resting under her skin. Alex shook their head. “MC, you did something terrible, but listen to me. You were angry, you were in despair, you didn’t know what to do, and the Gods have done worse. They have killed innocent people in the stories I’ve read so many times that I’ve lost count, and you weren’t going to let it happen again. It’s okay, MC. I promise.” MC still felt horrible, but to see Alex just...here and comforting her brought her a bit of peace. “And I’m angry too. I love Hades and my mother, but they would’ve done something I would never forgive. They would’ve killed my best friend, someone I love more than a best friend, someone I’ve known all my life, and someone I broke a promise to,” their voice got quieter with every word, but they know MC hears it by the way a smile comes to her lips and more tears fall from her eyes.

“Alex, I know why you did what you did, and I still love you.” They know she didn’t mean it in the way they did, but she smiled brighter at them and placed her hand on their cheek. “I don’t know what I feel. I love Hades still, even after what he’s done, but my feelings...are changing? They’re weird, Alex,” she laughed at the end. “Feelings are extremely weird,” they said with a laugh as well. They needed to hear her laugh one more time, and they did. She then began to slowly fade away. She held out her pinky finger to Alex. “Will you pinky promise me that you’ll find me again? That we’ll find each other,” she said with a smile and a choked back sob. Memories rushed back to both of them as kids and Alex and MC promising each other to be always be there for the other. That they’d love each other forever and help each other, and it brought tears to Alex’s eyes once again. Alex linked their pinky with hers and they both smiled at each other. How could they not promise it to her?

She then faded away and Alex was left to look at the sunset for a few more seconds before they woke up. The ache in their heart is even worse now, but they know she’s coming back. They know it. And they won’t let her face a fate such as this. Whether she ends up with them or not, their love for her will last an eternity, and they will use their divinity to protect her, because they failed her this time...

how do you make poses for the roof? i'm not sure how i can know if the sims will clip into the roof or float

honestly i just...eyeball it...because all roofs are different and you can’t put them into blender so. i just winged it lmao...i just made a pose that looked like it could’ve been lou climbing out the window, only the rig was still ground level, and then i used alt + 9 to lift the teleporter onto the roof as best as i could. that’s why it probably wouldn’t be a very practical pose to release, because i have no way of making it easy to use

“I’m Not Gay”

Edit- I have changed a little of this bc when I first posted there were some similarities on a paragraph to another story. And even though I didn’t copy it, I still felt awful that it was so similar so I’ve decided to edit mine.

Pairing: Reddie A/N: This is my first Reddie fic and it was supposed to go in a different direction but we ended up here. I don’t love it but I don’t hate it. ALRIGHT SO! Both boys are in college in this so around 19-20. It's not quite smut but it is about friends with benefits so. Summary: Fuck, when did Richie catch feelings for his best friend. This was just supposed to be some casual fucking. Words: 1,200+

This should've been like every other time. Eddie beneath him, a mixture of curses and Richie's name spilling out in moans. This time though, his kisses seemed sweeter and his hands roamed longer. He was taking in everything. From the look on Eddie's face to the curls sticking to his forehead.

He was beautiful.

Richie couldn't get enough. They had been, for lack of better phrasing, friends with benefits for awhile now. It started on a tipsy night last semester, neither boy had really planned for it to continue but here they were. Richie literally balls deep in Eddie. 

As he looked at the small lad beneath him, he felt his heart race. He wanted more. Maybe now wasn't the time to be having an epiphany but seeing Eddie begging for him and knowing only he could make him feel that way really got Richie hot. 

Maybe it was the pleasure pooling in his stomach talking but he never wanted another name to fall from those lips. 

"Richie faster p-please." Richie groaned, hearing how much Eddie wanted him was almost enough to push him over the edge but he always did as he was told. He quickened his pace. 

"As you wish, Eds." 

"Don't...oh my god," Eddie moans "call me that." Richie smirked, "I make you feel this good and still can't call you Eds?" once again quickening his thrusts. Eddie grabbed a fist full of Richie's shirt. His moans quickly turning to full on screams. Richie loving every sound.

Before long they were both entangled on the bed breathless. Eddie's head resting on Richie's chest.

"Gross, your shirt is soaked in sweat. You should've just taken it off."

"But then you wouldn't have anything to hold onto." Richie gave a smug smile, 

"Besides, you weren't feeling foreplay today so I figured we'd just get to the fun part." He leaned down a placed a small kiss on Eddie's temple before removing the disgusting shirt and tossing it across the room.

The after cuddles were starting to become Richie's favorite part of all this. Although the sex was extraordinary. He tightened his arms around Eddie's petite waist, as his fingers swirled cute designs on the small of Eddie's back. Eyes closed just enjoying the intensity of Eddie's skin on his. It was like a small fire beneath his finger tips. He could practically feel the sparks.

Fuck, when did his life turn into such a damn rom com? Here he was pining over his best friend who was painfully oblivious. His inner monologue getting interrupted by small hums. Eddie was nuzzling his face further into Richie's now bare chest. Content. He would describe them as content. He thought he might die right here. Eddie was just too damn cute. He probably didn't even realize how much this was killing Richie. Being so close physically yet so far emotionally.

"I love you."

The words flew out like vomit. No warning and leaving an awful taste in his mouth. FUCK. Did that really just come out of him? Richie could feel his heart beating through his chest. If his rib cage wasn't there he was sure it would've burst through his skin.

Everything seemed to go in slow motion. His breath hitched as Eddie moved his head to stare into Richie's eyes.

"W-what?" his voice cracking with uncertainty. Richie didn't know how to respond so he didn't. Both boys just staring in silence. Neither of them wanting to be the next to speak. After what could've been ages, the silence had become unbearable.

"Richie..." Eddie's tone was stern, he wanted answers, "what did you say?" The terrified boy below him was shaking. He broke away from Eddie's gaze. The feeling of tears started to well up behind his eyes. He would not cry right now, not in front of Eddie.

He cleared his throat, pulling himself together. "Oh, ya know Eds. Love ya and all that. You're my best friend." It was a long shot but Richie had to try to mend this situation. Eddie only stared.

"No, that's not what you said."

"It's basically what I said."

"Trashmouth, I'm gonna need you to not fucking lie to me right now." Eddie had sat up by now, legs crossed beside his boy. Richie just laid there, arms around himself instead of Eddie. The wall must've been the most interesting thing he'd ever seen. He couldn't tear his eyes away.

Have you ever just decided FUCK IT? Richie has.

"I said...I'm madly and utterly in love with you. My dear Eddie Spaghetti. I'm not sure when this changed from a casual fuck to much much more. But here I am. Dying to be this close to you for the rest of my days. Look at those lips! I wanna kiss them every day. Cute dates? You got it baby! Hands cold? Use mine to warm them! Jesus Eddie, I just wanna scream to the world that you're mine. I know this is unrequited but I guess my heart needed to speak up before my brain could interfere. Regardless of anything I just hope we can still be friends and that I didn't make you too uncomfortable."

Richie took in a much needed breath and finally tore his gaze from the wall. Eddie's face was unreadable. His eyes wide and mouth agape. Now was not a time that Richie could handle the silence. He gave up.

"I'm sorry Eds, uh I mean Eddie. I'll let myself out. I shouldn't have just thrown this all on you." He was off the bed and scrambling to find his clothes in seconds. Eddie, still speechless, didn't stop him. The tears finding their way back to his eyes. Richie couldn't bring himself to fight them back this time. He just let them fall.

Having finally dressed himself he turned back to Eddie one last time. Then headed for the door. His tear stained cheeks breaking Eddie's heart.

"You idiot, Trashmouth." Richie stopped, hand on the door. He knew he was an idiot, especially to think that just maybe they could be together.

"This is your room dumbass." Eddie stood, walking to Richie. He took his hand off the handle and held it within his own. "You're also an idiot for thinking, even for a second, that I wouldn't feel the same."

"But, but you didn't say anything."

"I was...pausing for dramatic effect. I, uh, also couldn't believe you felt the same. I've been trying to figure out how to tell you for weeks. I am so sorry I made you cry, babe." Eddie's thumb wiping away the stray tears Richie had let fall. He cupped his face, pulling him down for a sweet kiss. Richie's face broke into the largest smile he's probably ever had. He kissed back with all the emotion he could muster.

This kiss.

This was his favorite. In the past, their kisses had been rushed, hungry, needy. Both just needing to get their rocks off. Not this time though, this time it was slow and soft. Eddie's arms around his neck and Richie's snaked around Eddie's waist. You could feel the love within this kiss. Each boy smiling, and excited for this new chapter of their lives.

"I'm not gay." Eddie said breaking away but his smile never left.

"My dick was literally in your ass half an hour ago." Eddie's face went red.

"Beep beep Richie," Eddie laughed, "I love you Trashmouth Tozier."

"I love you too, my Eddie Spaghetti."

Youtuber AU Headcanons

(Lowkey inspired by a post by @whizzerbrowne who brought the idea to my attention and it has since dominated my brain). Let’s just get started:

(This got way too long, yikes. I had to include a read more line)

~ Three Youtubers: Jason, Cordelia, and Whizzer.

Jason

Type: He’s one of those younger, newer youtubers. He started when he was nine, and he talked frankly about stuff like divorce (bc his parents were going through a divorce at the time) and being an introvert and being autistic and being Jewish and dealing with a difficult relationship with his parents. He has trouble really talking to people so it was like really easy to just sit in front of a camera and start talking at them. Side note: this was totally Mendel’s idea as a therapy exercise that actually worked, okay? And (as we’ve seen in the musical), Jason has this raw honesty and wit to him that is very funny and real to watch. As he’s gotten older, he’s started talking about other things - like not such heavy topics. He talks about the things that he’s hyperfixated on (baseball, chess, the emoji movie, etc), and though his content is pretty erratic and all over the place, people just love his commentary and he’s amassed millions of followers in just a few years??

He also vlogs /a lot/, which is how his audience got to know Trina, Mendel, and Marvin.

Trina - Everyone literally adores her. She is v nervous and awkward in her cameos in Jason’s videos, but she is also very honest and vocal about her opinions and calls herself the Cool Mom even though Jason’s like “Mom, you don’t let me stay up past ten even when it’s not a school night” and Trina’s just “A Cool Mom can’t still care about your healthy and well-being??”

Mendel - As a one-off, Jason asked his followers to submit questions to Mendel the Psychiatrist for a collab idea with his stepdad, and his pieces of advice were kinda off the wall and funny and it quickly became a series and one of Jason’s most popular series ever. Some people are convinced Mendel is just playing a character so Jason has to be like “no he is actually like this. You have to believe me.” Also: Mendel gets a snapchat that everyone follows. He uploads grainy pictures of like trees and makes puns and constantly spams his story with pictures of Trina with captions like “look at how pretty she is” and “how did i get so lucky” and “rare photo of an actual goddess.” 

Marvin - Tbh, the audience’s reaction to Marvin is a little more mixed, esp at first. Jason had talked a lot about his difficult relationship with Marvin and his “Draw My Life” video did stir up some contempt for Marvin’s selfishness. But like, over the years and through small snippets of cameos, it is generally believed that Marvin has changed and grown up a lot and is like an amazing (but dorky) dad. His cameos in Jason’s videos are the best bc it shows how eerily alike those two are and at one point Marvin briefly talks about internalized homophobia and toxic masculinity and hints at the stuff that he is’t proud of, and everyone - no matter their outward opinion of him - has like a little crush on him. Also, the videos with Marvin and Mendel both?? Their petty arguing gets like millions of hits every time.

Jason also totally does all the trend/tag videos but also has like that sarcastic, almost ironic vibe at first but he ends up really sincerely liking it. 

Jason also does like monologues of his thoughts and opinions while also doing mini skits in between and he is iconic and a jack of all trades really.

He is very articulate and seems so mature but like any hate whatsoever does get to him a lot. He’s learned how to deal with his self-doubt and ignoring the trolls better than he had when he first started, but every once in awhile it still gets to him.

Also??? Remember that Roast Yourself Challenge trend??? Jason did that, and it was on the top page for like a solid week. He went too hard and too real.

Cordelia

Type: Totally like Hannah Hart’s Drunk Kitchen, are you even kidding me?? That it totally Cordelia. She drinks and talks about current events and makes really bad food puns and it is Everything. She also branches out after awhile and starts doing like satirical how-to videos. Lowkey once she tried to make a wry, parody version of a beauty vlogger how-to and she ended up having so much fun with it and her after make-up looked ballin, so she starts doing make-up tutorials, too.

She’s also very very proudly gay and out. Like, her username is literally lesbiancaterer. But she still gets like comments on her videos saying “are you straight?” or “her boyfriend must be a lucky guy” and it just makes her go “????? How could I ever make this clearer?” (once, in a collab with Marvin, one comment said “ahh, her and her bf are such #relationship goals” which then launched a very satirical, very deadpan boyfriend tag video with her and Marvin that made it abundantly clear just how fucking gay those two are).

Charotte first got introduced very very early in her videos bc once during a drunk kitchen, Cordelia cut her finger with a knife and called for her girlfriend and Charlotte went into complete Doctor Mode and started treating her immediately. Cordelia is a little tipsy at that point and starts blatantly flirting with her and calling her “my doctor” and that video’s comment section is just keysmashing and the phrase “my doctor.”

Cordelia does not try to hide her relationship in any way. She and Charlotte have done all those cute couples tags and Charlotte is the star of Cordelia’s social media and vlogs. Now they are #relationship goals.

Cordelia actually got into Youtube bc of Jason and everyone was like lowkey shocked when it turned out that these two popular but different youtubers knew each other and cameo in one another’s videos a lot and Cordelia is like “he is literally my godson, guys. Ofc I’m gonna be around him and support him.”

Whizzer

Type: Ohhh boy!! Whizzer is def the kind of youtuber that has been around on the platform since circa 2007 - are you even gonna try to fight me on that??? He is a fashion channel (also has like a series of the youtube version of fashion police) but also like a major storytime channel bc he’s been around and tells the craziest but realest stories of all time. He is also quickly considered The Gay Icon^tm of Youtube.

He is definitely one of the biggest youtubers on the platform but he also lowkey feels too old to still be on here and has that like Shane Dawson kinda feel of like keeping it real about youtube drama and rebranding himself and learning from stupid old videos when he was still like a shit 20-something that was lowkey problematic. 

He stans so hard for Britney Spears and Carly Rae Jepsen and he got Carly in one of his collabs and he could not stop smiling and fangirling and he is literally all of us.

He is very, very vocal and honest about his sexuality and sexual history. He has a lot of Body and Sex Positivity videos and speaks very bluntly about the importance of self-esteem and body image and safe sex.

(One of his most popular videos is the one with him candidly speaking about having HIV and he talks about his mistake with unsafe sex and all the terrible stigmas around the topic. He talks about how it’s both a physical and emotional struggle, and he also talks about treatment and awareness and prevention and seeking emotional help to combat depression).

He arranges a collab with Jason bc they are alike in that they always speak candidly about issues and struggles and have like the exact same sense of dry, almost scathing humor. Whizzer meets Marvin bc Marvin is like “Jason, there is no way you’re meeting a strange man who you met over the internet. I am definitely going to be the one that goes with you.”

(Awkward moment when Marvin and Jason get to Whizzer’s apartment, and Marvin and Whizzer’s profiles light up with one another from one of those websites like Grindr). Whizzer has like lowkey commented on Jason’s videos before with lewd comments about his hot dad, but like this is so not what Whizzer had been expecting?? Yeah, at the end of Whizzer and Jason’s collab video, Whizzer puts like a small blooper reel and it’s him continually flirting with Jason’s dad (who’s behind the camera) and the Internet suddenly has a new fave ship.

(Marvin and Whizzer totally messaged each other and hooked up like the next day).

But like, they keep the budding relationship very underwraps bc they both really don’t want it to affect Jason’s channel and neither really think at first that their whole arrangement will go anywhere close to serious because Whizzer has never been in love or had a steady boyfriend and Marvin cannot hold a relationship either even after his divorce.

But of course they fall in love, and of course the internet knows something’s up. Whizzer keeps vaguing on Twitter about the new man in his life with weird tweets like “I can’t believe I’m deliberately sleeping with a man who UNIRONICALLY knows every word to Allstar” and “get you a man who always sends that courtesy ‘thank you.’ text after you send him a dick pic.” And when Whizzer vlogs, he always makes sure to keep the camera trained on himself but you can see that his eyes are always looking away as he’s like smiling at someone who does not want to be on camera. Also, Jason’s weekend vlogs have cameos of Whizzer in them now.

They mess up when in one of aforementioned Jason’s vlogs, there’s a grainy clip of Marvin and Whizzer in the background and Marvin kisses Whizzer’s cheek. The internet loses their minds

(After nine/ten months of dating, Whizzer and Marvin abruptly break up and neither really acknowledges it. However, weeks after their break up, Whizzer decides to make a story-time video about this fucking asshole boyfriend that broke up with him over a chess game. He wanted it to be like both petty but also very funny because that is such a ridiculous story, but like when he’s editing it, he notices himself being like on the verge of tears in some parts and being overly bitter and tense, and he never uploads it and he realizes that he isn’t over Marvin like he had said he was).

(However, Whizzer does end up making a story-time video later about how Jason’s baseball game brought him and Marvin back together).

After they get back together, they’ve worked out their issues and are couples goals now and they do not hide their relationship and Marvin makes cameos in both Whizzer and Jason’s videos/younows and it is incredible.

Through Jason and Marvin, Whizzer and Cordelia meet and they become best friends. They collab all the time and they complain about queer struggles and they talk about their relationships and get drunk on camera and be weird, loud idiots and those videos get tons of views.

And Whizzer gets candid about how he’s always felt like alone in the world and hasn’t really had the opportunity to rely on anyone but himself but through Jason and Marvin, he meets Cordelia and Charlotte and Mendel and Trina, and even though they might not get along all the time and some people are closer to other people, they’re all his family and he never thought that he’d really have one that close before. It’s one of his most vulnerable videos.

The most successful videos on all three’s channels are the collabs of the three of them together: Jason and Cordelia and Whizzer. And they become like one of those Youtube cliques that collab all the time and tweet about each other’s videos constantly and always hang out with one another at all the events like Vidcon and Playlist Live.

Elizabeth Aline is an 18 year old photographer from Kent, England. Elizabeth's work varies between film, polaroid, and digital photographs which combine to make a beautiful collection of hazy, colorful images. She uses both Tumblr and Instagram to share her work with the world.

As a Tumblr user myself, it is hard to ignore the popularity that 90's culture and fashion has on current teens. The soft focus and intentional griminess of photography witnessed in grunge style has definitely had an impact on the photographs that teens have been making in recent years. Elizabeth's work has those aspects as she experiments with multiple ways to create a photograph, but her work explores much more than that.

Through the use of color and personal points of view Elizabeth creates a different type of photography that takes shape into the form of a dream. Her photographs bring the viewer along as she documents her unique personal points-of-view.

Bennett Collective: How and why did you start shooting?

Elizabeth Aline: When I started taking photos I didn't have much reason... it was something I really wanted to start doing with art. I was never patient enough to practice drawing, but the spontaneous documentation of photography allowed me to practice, and I had my first commission within seven months of picking up a camera. It felt like an instant connection, I didn't have a reason to start taking photos. Now it has evolved into my spontaneous mind whirring and allowing me to take instant photos and instant works of art, something I've always wanted to do.

BC: Who and what inspires you?

EA: I'm heavily inspired by Impressionist art and painters in general. I know for a fact I wouldn't have experimented with art and found photography if it wasn't for a book on Claude Monet my mum would get out the library.

Artists such as Frida Kahlo give me a ton of inspiration. She painted in such a surreal manner that has me almost scared to look at it. With paintings, the thing does not need to exist, with photography, it has to exist to be captured. And I hope one day we can take Surreal art into photography fully, and create scenes that are concerning and weird, but exist, and that's what'll makes them weirder.

As for photography, David Hockney's photography is a huge inspiration to me. The candid nature and the mixed medium messes with perception, and I love that.

Finally, my own anxiety and perception of self inspire me to take many self portraits, to keep my documentation raw and personal, with a touch of Abstract and Surreal art in there too.

BC: I think it's unique how you're using photography to blog, but your photographs are also documenting something. Was this your reason for starting your (Tumblr) blog?

EA: I started my blog about a year ago. I had a lot of photography in my mind at that time that I didn't know how to document and I used my blog to simply post my progress as an artist, but also to look and see how other photographers and artists used their blogs to document art. My blog became a place of artistic experimentation that allowed me to discover the joy of spontaneous documentation.

BC: Have you found inspiration on Tumblr and if so how has that changed/helped your work?

EA: Tumblr taught me to experiment really, allowing myself to try editing, to work with point and shoot cameras and make everything into art. I'd say it has helped me gain confidence in my work and I've definitely been inspired by other creators on there.

BC: How has Tumblr's response to your photography been like compared to Instagram?

EA: On Tumblr, the comments in the tags, the reblogs, likes and occasional anonymous messages feel so much more genuine than the comments and likes on Instagram. While both have given me lots of opportunities to be seen by creators and get some commissions, it feels like those who reblog my photography on Tumblr genuinely like it, as opposed to just double tapping and scrolling away on Instagram. There is more of a sense of community on my Tumblr page, which I like. But, Instagram makes sharing faster and it seems to reach a larger audience, although I have more followers on Tumblr. Both have their pros, but I always share my work on Tumblr first. Tumblr just feels like a safer place to be hyper experimental and creative with all art.

BC: When I looked at your Tumblr archive and saw a bunch of photographs at once it felt like everything is connected. It also feels like I am a fly on the wall looking through someone's personal documentation of their life. This is what I see, but what do you see in your work?

EA: For me, my photography is very much personal documentation in the most surreal and eerie way I can imagine. I want to just capture every instant in life, my anxiety comes and goes, but I like to keep every moment in my photography surreal and somewhat anxious. For me, I just want my photography to be a place of personal thought, with a surreal edge to it that creates the feeling that the photos are all simply a dream.

BC: The colors in your photographs are gorgeous and definitely heighten the emotion in each one. Is color one of your main focuses when you look through your view-finder?

EA: For sure, I went through the usual teenage phase of 'black is my favorite colour'. I think after awhile I realized how much I love colour, how much I love to experiment with colour and how much colour changes my creative process. My film photography looks at colour in a soft, natural way that I think can only truly be documented on film. My digital photography focuses on those neon, emotion tugging colours that I adore and that stings the eyes and plays with the mind. As much as I love my soft colours, I'm very happy to be experimenting with colour and emotion far more than before.

BC: You said that your blog tracked your progress as an artist, do you have any ideas of what your photography might bring in the future? Any hopes?

EA: In an ideal world I'd love to become a full-time photographer, with my photos in galleries across the world and use my art to make money by selling prints, etc. But, I think if that never came around, I'd love to curate other people's photography for galleries. Writing and talking about photography is what I'm passionate about, and by curating I'd be able to keep the conversation of photography as an art form alive. In fairness though, who says I can't do both?

wow it’s been awhile since i’ve written one of these. i just realized that i totally didn’t write one last year. anyway i dont even know where to begin. 2016 has been an interesting year to say the least. i was rereading some of my old posts and i said omg a lot. the days just seem to go by in a blur nowadays, so i will try to recap 2016 as best as i can. i dont have a word to encompass this year though.

went to seattle in january. tried some really expensive sushi..twice..holy crap. the quality was a1 but man the bill was something else. seattle was nice though. definitely had a san francisco vibe to it, except for when you go to the waterside and look back at all the construction. i guess we kinda ran out of things to do bc on the last day we went to chinatown and the area seemed really dinky. also gained a ton of weight in seattle though u_u

in february we tried 5a5 steakhouse. and let me tell u. it is the best beef i have ever had. it is also the most money i have ever spent on a single meal. oh my god. i dont know if i'll ever be back, but i would like to, some day.

thus far, the semester was pretty okay. let's see..i had government accounting with a moody professor who would throw tantrums whenever no one participated. i also had business law with this old guy who was really lively and fun. i had strategic management with a bryan cranston look alike. the class was really interesting though and i learned a lot and it got me started on reading the economist lmao im so old. i miss having so much free time that came with school. 40 hour work weeks are not the life (even if i barely do anything at work).

went to LA during spring break. and at a good time too bc it was still the soft opening of harry potter world so the lines were v manageable. butterbeer was dope. the entire hogsmeade village just felt so real. had sooo much good food in LA omg. got to see some friends as well. had some of the best steak frites ever.

i cant believe i particpated in asu's talent show this year. much has changed in asu since i joined. it makes me wonder if i was behaving that way when i first joined. it seems a lot more clique-y and high school and drama filled but hey maybe it was that way when i was active but i just never noticed. had many fun lunches with my grand little but man there is a lot of drama in asu and im just glad i wasnt in any of it. i kinda miss the old asu days of staying out late to eat or do nothing at all but also i dont miss it bc i get enough sleep and im a lot more productive without asu lmao. finally ended things with tram for good. maybe things turned out the way they did for the better. the entire friendship was such a roller coaster. im glad its over.

the end of the semester rolled around!!! and i graduated!!!! :') attended my sisters graduation which was pretty boring bc high school students have such a narrow view of life (not to say that college students are any better). attended my own graduation. felt really fortunate to have jessa and anthony there. this one kid in my graudating class gave a speech about accomplishments...and he revealed the wrestling belt he was wearing underneath his graduation gown...and then he made the grads stand up and chant thank yous to the friends and family sitting behind us. it was so embarrassing and extra omg.

shortly after graduation i was on a plane headed back to the motherland. and let me tell u. i hated most of it. it was super hot and humid and my sister and i shared about 100 mosquito bites between the both of us. also. i know i shouldnt but..vietnam is so dirty. i know its not their fault that theyre a developing country but man there are exactly zero sanitation standards and i dont even know why we were there bc the water had recently been polluted so none of the fish were edible and my mom didnt trust the food stands to have clean food either. i guess i made some new friends and visited some cool places but at what cost??? also i think my entire fam got sick bc we slept with the ac on but either way, the meds i took made me lose my sense of smell i think and i couldnt taste or smell anything for two weeks. the ac air also dried out my nose and gave me a skin infection (which i will discuss later). during our trip to danang a small ferry got flipped on the big river and a bunch of ppl died and the government tried to cover it up bc bad publicity etc. they played it off as if only a few ppl died rather than most of the ppl on the boat. our tour guide in danang was in the know tho so he told us everything and w o w that really could've been us on that river bc it was a boat the left the dock about half an hour after our boat left. crazy.

after the long and arduous journey abroad i finally made it back home...and then headed to hawaii. hawaii was dope af. 10/10 would recommend, would go back. battled the tides when we went kayaking and sadly the tides won and i lost my hat but also almost lost my flip flops if it weren't for some kind random strangers who swam out to get my flip flops. we stayed on oahu and maui. hiked up a v steep mountain in oahu. lost my hat from kayaking. got caught in the rain when we went looking for a beach on the first day. had some of the best shaved ice ever. attended my first luau. fell asleep during the first part of a fire dancing show (bc the fire hadnt started yet). essentially pulled an all nighter to try oahu's famous bakery that opened at 3am. flew to maui but due to poor planning we arrived 4 hours earlier than check in lmao. the house we had in maui was so beautiful though omg. it was ocean side so we could hear the waves every night and it just felt so peaceful and tranquil to sit on the balcony in the mornings, just staring out at sea. in maui we went snorkeling. the last time i went snorkeling was like...10+ years ago...in cancun...and the water was freezing...and i also thought i was lost in the middle of the ocean on our way to the snorkeling location... but anyway! the snorkeling this time was so cool omg they had prescription swimming goggles so i could see EVERYTHING. they also provided lunch which was dope. it started raining on our way back to shore though lmao. the next day we drove all the way up the volcano in maui...to find that the top was foggy af and we couldnt see anything. the road up was pretty nasty bc super windy and 10000 ft elevation. it got really foggy after like 6000ft so we basically drove in all fog until the top which was still foggy but also like 20 degrees colder than the rest of maui. maui is super rural omg. we tried to find a place to eat after our trek but there were barely any food places in sight. we picked a random spot in the middle of nowhere and then decided to take the road to hana (which is on the opposite side of where we were staying, and was about 3 hrs away. and boy did we mess up. we took the alternate road there and it was scarier than going up the volcano bc 1) windy 2) small ass roads which were unpaved at certain points and 3) cliff hugging roads..i cant believe i made the drive there and back it was so terrifying omg. not sure if i would go back. at one point there was a big ass cow in the middle of the road. once we got to hana though, the hike was really nice despite the humidity. almost died crossing the river at the end to see the waterfall. all the rocks had big ants on them!!! how was i supposed to cross the river!!! we missed out on the wading pools though but we were so starving by that time. made the 3 hr drive back and everyone was dead. spent the last day on maui not doing much bc rainy and we were all so dead.

about two weeks after i got back from hawaii was training week in sac for my first big girl job. ngl but i felt super homesick that first night. idk why since i would be home by the end of the week anyway. probably just overwhelmed by how fast everything was happening. graduation and now transitioning into a full time job. scary stuff. but i did make a really good friend in sac so it didnt turn out so bad!!! training was pretty fun bc our presenter was pretty engaging. except when we went over the boring stuff and i was v close to falling asleep. did get to catch up with some of my sac friends though which was nice. went to the state fair for the first time as well. it was..exactly as expected but hotter lmao. my family went to san diego at this time bc my sister was going to comic con but i couldnt make it :(

got back from training and started my first big girl job. im not sure what i expected but it was easy but also hard? my first engagement i was only with one other senior and she was super nice and pretty and really good at lettering. i dont feel like i learned much? i only really did the tasks given to me but i feel like half the time i wasnt even sure what i was doing. i also hated the commute all the way back from walnut creek. the going there wasnt so bad bc i got a ride out to oakland but man it would take forever to get home. :'( my second engagement was just me and a partner and i feel like she expected me to know everything...but i didnt know anything...so i mostly sat around a lot??? esp bc she wasnt on site every day so i had zero supervision. :/ towards the end of the second engagement i got an email from the city saying that they were accepting me into their accounting position and i was like oh shit. i ended up taking the job, which gave me a week in between quitting the first job and starting the second, which i used to go back to LA lmao bc i had a season ticket to universal. actually ate at the three broomsticks this time. it was defs filling and i thought it was a good bang for buck. attempted to go to the walking dead tour..chickened out..twice. i probs would've died in there tbh. also went to disneyland!!!! that was lit. their macone-roni and cheese was da bomb. saw world of color for the first time except it was the 50th anniversary edition so it wasnt so great. bumped into the couple that was in jbieb's love yourself video. tried some new food places in LA and saw some old friends, again.

started my second big girl job. all my coworkers are super nice except the big boss is kind of crazy and anal. but we deal with it. my supervisor is so nice :'( work isnt so bad bc i dont do much lmao. the hardest part sometimes is just staying awake if im being honest. getting paid to do nothing is the life tho.

spent my birthday weekend in monterey. we were supposed to go atv-ing but ended up going wine tasting but also not really bc we liked the first wine so much we got a bottle of that to share. it was really cold that weekend surprisingly so we stayed in and then went to this spa place on a whim and it was definitely an interesting experience.

went as a rice bag for halloween and i think that was probably my greatest costume to date. except we ended up going to a party full of white ppl...and i was like the only asian there gdi

tagged along w my sister when she went to sd. got to see many friends!!! went clubbing as well and that was lit. took michelle clubbing for her 21st birthday, also lit. squadsgiving and christmas were super fun. got some supplies for bullet journaling so guess thatll be my new years resolution. but also to take more photos bc i didnt buy that camera for nothing.

okay so in conclusion. i did a lot of stuff this year. it feels like it was mostly all highs. or maybe i just block out the lows but im pretty sure there were way more highs than lows. 2016 was a great year tbh. oh yeah i also passed two of four parts of my cpa exam!!! woot. in 2016, i learned a lot...of accounting lmao. plus i ran my first 5k!!!!! oh yeah and i joined a gym and now im getting swole af. im not sure what my reflections are. i guess, if i were to compare 2k16 kim to 2k14 kim i've for sure come a long ways. i wasnt afraid to try new challenges and conquer them. i stepped out of my comfort zone multiple times, sometimes with the help of alcohol. i got my shit together and really focused in school (which got me a 4.0 during my last year of college). i also got my shit together and studied my ass off for the cpa (which is still ongoing i crey). i really wanna say this was probably one of my best years with everything i was able to do and everything i achieved. so here's to you, 2016, and may 2017 be even better!!!

okay, yikes. this one is difficult because i’ve been making gifs for over 5 years now??? so i legit do not remember a lot of them i’ve made until i see people reblogging them again, lmao. but off the top of my head, these:

13: Where or from whom did you learn how to gif

i literally don’t remember??? i know i started because of tumblr, and it was a lot of trial and error. i spent a lot of time looking at tutorials and once i figured out how to do it, it came down to coloring and figuring out what worked best for what i liked and what i wanted - in the end i learned that it’s kinda best to develop your own style in terms of how you like to edit. most coloring tutorials aren’t bad, but they weren’t exactly what i wanted, so i took bits and pieces from different tutorials and made my own thing. pretty sure i took a base .PSD from someone and formatted it to my own liking, so at the end of the day, it’s not 100% me in terms of the layers that i use, but how i color is mine. i have a .PSD with layers that i always use, every time. i have a system i stick to literally every time, and it doesn’t matter if a scene is too dark or light or warm or cool, it works so well. so i can’t tell you usernames as it’s been ages since i’ve found them, but yeah, tumblr is where. thank god for people who are kind enough to make tutorials.

14: How long does it usually take you to make a set

i can only answer vaguely - hours. and the reason is dependent upon what you’re trying to do - if it’s gif’ing one specific scene, it usually doesn’t take as long because you can color one gif and apply that coloring to the rest of them without fear of them mismatching. if text is involved, it takes a little longer due to transcribing and then making sure all the next is aligned.

so while that can take awhile, it’s shorter in comparison to say gif’ing multiple scenes that have different lighting because you can’t just color one scene and slap it on another gif. you have to individually color them and coloring is what takes the longest for me ie. trying to determine what fits best. sometimes i’ve gotten to an ‘end’ result with coloring and i hate it so much, i scrap it and start over. then, you have to add on how many gifs you’re gonna make in a set. if you’re doing 6 vs 8 vs 10, then that’s even more time. i will say, at the bare minimum, it takes over 2hrs for a gifset. that’s not including having downloaded the material and cutting the clip so it can be imported into photoshop.

it can also depend on your eyeballs, too. i know that sounds weird, but there are days where i’m just like....... you’re coloring is so off today wtf u doin. and then other days, i’m knocking out coloring and it doesn’t take me that long even if it’s multiple gifs.

I have a question. What advice would you have for someone trying to start making YouTube videos? I've been wanting to for awhile, but I don't know where to even start. I love you're stuff and have been following your blog for a couple of years now. I'm so happy you decided to start making videos again. ❤

I’m going to make this public to share with everyone! I find it so lovely that you mentioned I’ve starting making videos again- I have sooo many videos I’ve hidden after a rebranding of sorts, but I appreciate you being with me for so long!! I dont know how many people can say the same!

Anyway, onto videos! The absolute hardest part for me wasn’t the equipment, or the time, although those were important barriers for a while. Once I started a full time job I bought this camera which is popular among vloggers but I use it as my main video camera and it does a fine job! I also have Adobe Creative Cloud bc I can afford it and use Premiere Pro for editing, but honestly you can use an iPhone and Windows Movie Maker or iMovie and still make awesome vids!

The absolute hardest part, for me, was feeling like people cared about what I had to say. I really didn’t think my voice mattered or that making videos would make a difference or be successful. Getting over that fear of failure was basically saying “fuck it” in regards to what people thought ab my channel. I really started channeling my videos into helping others and being an active part of the fat positive community! Having a less scary goal made the fear of failing melt away- I always say, if my video helps one person, that’s all that matters. Same with my blog! If my photos can inspire one person to love themselves a little more that day, it’s worth it. 

Logistically, having a posting schedule is good. Decide how often you want to make videos, what days you want to post, etc. Then schedule that shit out! Get a video planner or use Google calendar and plan time/days to film, edit and upload. I often film 2-3 videos on one day and plan out time to edit them. It helps to get ahead. For filming, try to find a nice window to sit in front of to get good lighting. Natural lighting is always the best! But you can buy a ring light for filming in the evening. Make your channel art look nice too! Canva is great for that bc they have templates for that stuff. 

As for content, think about what you love doing/talking about, what’s important to you and your viewers, and what you are capable of! In my experience, plus size fashion videos are the most popular. I don’t have the money to buy half a wardrobe every month nor do I have any sponsors. In the Dressing Room videos are SO GOOD FOR THIS because you don’t have to buy anything! Use the resources you have, and try to be smart about it. Make an on-going list of video ideas somewhere you’ll always have, like on your phone or in a notebook by your bed. You might not use all of the ideas but it’s awesome to have something to look back on if you feel uninspired. 

It’s also great to follow other people in your niche group and be active on their videos and in social media. When you support people, they’ll most likely support you back! 

Okay that’s a very long introduction but these are the things that I wish someone else told me when I started making videos again! I studied video production in school and it’s part of my current job, so I love doing this stuff and I know a good bit about it.

He always believed in her. Whenever she joined H.E.R.A, he believed she could do things to make things better. He saw her grow up and how she did everything to help people. He was basically one of the people that taught her to do that. But he truly believes that it’s just in her soul. Even if he wasn’t there, he believes she would’ve done the right thing.

But he didn’t know doing the right thing would eventually lead her somewhere he prayed wouldn’t happen. Somewhere he hoped and begged the gods to not let someone else he loved go to. However, it still happened and his world crashed around him.

One day he woke up to a knock on his door. He got up sleepily and was confused at first. It was around 10 AM. However, he didn’t know if it was important, so he got up and answered it. He was a little surprised to see Alex there, but he noticed MC wasn’t there.

“Hey, Alex. Is something up?” Alex was sitting on the couch with Josh next to him. Josh noticed the distant look in their eyes and how they were silent for awhile. Alex was not the one to really be shy. However, Josh gave them time. He understood what it’s like to need time to explain yourself. So, after around 5 minutes of silence, Alex took in a breath and looked at Josh with such sadness. “I tried, Josh. I really did. I tried to prevent what happened, I gave everything in me, my mother tried so hard too, but...”. They stopped, eyes going to the ground as they braved themselves for what they were going to repeat.

“MC is gone...”.

Sounds seemed to stop, the world seemed to stop moving. Alwx didn’t move and Josh didn’t dare to move, as if this was a dream. Well, a nightmare. However, it wasn’t, and Josh eventually let out a cry. He didn’t like to be weak in front of people, he felt like he had to be the strong one. He guessed it runs in the family. Alex then began to panic again. “I’m sorry. I tried so hard, Josh, but nothing worked,” they told him, tears sliding down their cheeks as well.

Josh knew they would’ve done everything. Alex was family and knew how they loved MC and how she loved them back. You could basically see it in both of their faces when they just looked at each other. It’s what made Josh happy. Alex was family to him and to see MC and Alex finally get together, it made Josh extemwlt happen. However, he couldn’t stop that pang of anger, but he hid it. Because he knew he truly couldn’t hate Alex. He just couldn’t. It wasn’t in his soul. However, it still hurt, god it hurt. He lost his mother, which caused his protectivness over his sister. However, when she grew older, he believed in her, he always did. But now...she was gone...and there was nothing he could do about it.

Alex and Josh both cried for the rest of the afternoon. They couldn’t think of anything else to do. After their sobbing was done, Alex left after one more apology. Josh reassures then that it was okay. He knows they tried their hardest. However, both of them knew the other wasn’t okay, but both knew they needed time alone.

Josh went to his bedroom and sat on the bed, his life starting to feel not normal. Not even sitting on the bed felt right. He let out small, hyperventilating breaths every now and then. He felt hungry, but he couldn’t bring himself to do anything. It was so long ago when he felt like this, but he always pushed to be better since he had his sister to care for. His sister...that was now gone. He fell back on his bed and looked at the ceiling, which caused a memory of him and his sister to pop into his mind.

He and his sister were laying on her bed in her room, looking at the ceiling. Their mom had bought them this machine that projected stars on the ceiling and they acted like they were stargazing. “Woah!” MC was 8 and she found this so cool. Josh and her looked at the stars and just admired them. They may not have been real, but they both loved them. Josh felt a little poke on his shoulder and turned his head to the side to see MC looking at him. “Will you take me to actually see the stars?” He smiled at his sister and ruffled her hair. “Of course I will!” MC giggled and looked back at the ceiling. It was a lovely night.

He sighed at that memory. It would’ve caused happiness to bloom if it was yesterday, but now it caused sadness and grief to form. He did take her to the park to see the stars one night. Their mom came too and it was all perfect. But now, those 2 people were gone. The hole that was left from his mothers death suddenly got wider and bigger, almost taking up his whole heart. It hurt, it felt he was dying, but he knew it wasn’t.

Fate wouldn’t be that kind to him.

On the day of her funeral, it was held at a graveyard, but in the corner of it. They all wanted MC to have a special place for herself like her mother did, but Josh refused to have it on Olympus. He may have wanted MC to feel at peace...but he couldn’t step foot into Olympus now, and he knew her need to see her when he felt lonely and cold again. None of the gods and goddesses dared to look him in the eye. Hatred was surrounding him, but it was drowned out by sadness. Hades and Aphrodite walked over to him and tried to comfort him. He tried to hold back his mouth, he knew how Hades and Aphrodite felt about his mom and MC. He may not be as close to them, but he does believe they would’ve done anything to keep MC safe.

Around 2 months after the burial, Josh was walking downtown and knew exactly where he was heading. It was to his sisters grave. The one place he believed he could go to and feel...safe. The one place he felt like someone was actually there. Well, when he was at his mothers grave he felt the same way, but he hasn’t felt that in over 10 years, and now he felt it again...and it hurt so bad. But he still went there, craving some kind of comfort. Even if she wasn’t there.

He arrived there and saw someone already there. It was a familiar figure, but one he hadn’t seen for 10 years (other than MCs recent funeral). He couldn’t help the little pang of anger that was in his heart. He saw Aphrodite and his mom together. He saw the closeness and could see how happy his mom was with her. And he knew that she cared for him and MC. He knew she would’ve done everything she could’ve to save MC...but it wasn’t enough. He was feeling a little anxious, but still walked and joined her. He heard her letting out little sobs. She jumped at him sitting next to her, but she looked at him and her tears fell even faster.

“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I tried, me and Alex tried so hard. So did Hades. We tried, Josh, I’m so sorry,” she said, hiccups in between her words. Josh looked at her and his tears also fell. He may not have been close to Aphrodire like MC and his mom were, but he did care for her as well. His tears fell as well. “I know.” It was the only thing he could say. His throat was tight with emotion and he didn’t know what else to say. Aphrodite nodded and looked back to MCs grave and continued to sob. Joshs tears were silent and let out soft sobs. He just couldn’t let everything out with Aphrodite right there and he couldn’t talk to her.

He and Aphrodite stayed there, sitting next to each other for another hour. It felt so tight and it felt like neither of them could leave. They felt like they had to get their tears out now to let MC know they were sorry. To let MC know they cared and missed her. Josh was actually surprised to not see Alex with their mother. He’s assuming that Alex needed some time alone for awhile.

He thinks that’s what everyone needs. And now...everyone has too much of it. No one wants to address it or speak of it, just like their mothers death. Now, so many people were affected by her and her mother, so it leaves a big hole in everyone’s heart.

But no one was hurting as much as her brother is.

WRITING TIME.” This has been in my mind for awhile and I finally have written it all out. No proofreading bc I’m rlly tired and need to sleep (unless Meg says a response or I actually can’t sleep).
