LITERALLY THIS. people only pirate when they have no other choice. I want my DVDs again :,c i wanna watch new shows and hold the physical copy of it in my hands.. btw! i did find a website called https://www.backtothe80sdvds.com which allows to buy physical copies of cartoon series ! sadly they are quite,,, unaffordable? all seasons of my little pony: friendship is magic costs 71 usd and 106 euro, as an example.. but its good to know that there are still places that have these services at all still <3 tho im not even sure is that website is legal at all either. i wanna actually still like support the og creators of the show, do things officially...... i dont WANT to pirate i wanna be able to buy my favourite shows easily and affordably and legally?? is that REALLY so hard???
People against piracy fail to realize that no, I can’t just ‘buy it.’ They stopped making DVDs and Blu-Rays. They’re barely offering digital copies for download. I am not spending money I could use for food or bills to pay for a subscription service just so I can always have access to a beloved piece of media. Especially not when the service will remove media on a whim without concern for how the loss of access to that piece will make its artistic conservation nigh impossible.
For example, I recently learned that Disney+ had an original film called Crater. It’s scifi, family friendly, and seems cool - I would love to buy it as a holiday gift for my little brother! But: it’s exclusive to D+ and THEY REMOVED IT LITERALLY MONTHS AFTER ITS RELEASE.
The ONLY way I can directly access this film is through piracy. The ONLY available ‘copies’ of this film are hosted on piracy websites. Disney will NEVER release it in theaters, or as something to buy, and it may NEVER return to the streaming service. It will be LOST because we aren’t allowed to purchase it for personal viewing. If I can’t pay to own it, I won’t pay for the privilege of losing it when corporate decides to put it in a vault.
So yes, I’m going to pirate and support piracy.
Edit: if you are able, use $5 you would otherwise use for a streaming subscription to donate to a GazaFunds campaign.

heya! youve sold me on Everything Everywhere All at Once but idk where i can watch it. i dont have any streaming services but i also dont wanna pirate it bc it seems like the creators are good people who deserve to get paid for their work. do you know where i can find it?
it’s such a great movie and helped me reinforce more positive ideologies in the face nihilism so im glad it got you curious enough to want experience it for yourself that means a lot to me!!
so my recommendation for where to watch it without a subscription to something or pirating is get a physical copy!! buy it once own it forever! no ads or buffering, and shows direct support. plus bonus material is really common on dvds for most movies too, so it’s like, even more worth the price. so if you have a dvd player already or want invest in owning your media of course go for it and if not then buying/renting it on vubu, microsoft, google play, amzon, or appletv is always an option and still shows monetary support (weirdly its not on youtube tho?). anything else is sub only unfortunately.
hope that helps you out, comrade! sorry i couldn’t get around to answering sooner <3
#i freaking LOVE physical media#i <3 dvds#sidenote but dvds are cheap for the value they offer and need to be saved#getting physical media keeps it from dying#even getting second hand dvds off of ebay or at thrift stores is good#keeps the circulation of that media moving#and selling old dvds you don’t watch anymore so someone else can enjoy it is great#usually cheap enough that you can use the extra money to support whatever creator you want to in other ways#all up to you but it feels good to physically own the things you love#so companies can’t randomly take it down or inject ads or lose wifi in the middle of it#with so many extra features i don’t understand why so many people turned away from dvds#some game consoles can be used to play blue rays too#so there’s options when it comes to this especially compared to the sub alternative#anywho say for the ramble i just couldn’t help myself i seriously love dvds#don’t let the dvd die

so do ppl on tumblr not realize u dont need streaming and that u can still buy dvds like ?? i see so many posts condemning streaming as if every single thing doesnt come out on dvd and bluray, often with a version that also includes a digital version for things like vudu or to simply just save on your pc? that's two and sometimes three versions of ownership for the same price it's always been to buy a physical copy. and yeah it's gonna be 20 bucks for a physical copy, it's always been that much for a movie that recently came out and/or is extremely popular. and as for shows being streamed, you can buy those eventually too. it takes the same amount of time to wait as it always did for your favorite cable shows, sometimes less. this is how i can tell a lot of you never had to pay for your own shit that often as kids and you're terminally online. y'all really think the streaming thing is killing dvd and bluray but in all actuality it's everyone who never goes to walmart and fye to purchase physical copies of media whenever they get a chance and the people who think pirating shit is the only way to watch stuff that isn't on the services you do have. i utilize all of those things personally and my dvd/bluray collection is poppin cause i use streaming instead of cable for my shows, pirating for shit i cant find anywhere else, and i buy whatever i really like because i feel it's worth having a copy of my own. i'm not saying this because i think i'm better than anyone, i'm saying this because y'all are complaining when you can literally just go to walmart and buy a movie/season of something or two and no one will stop you.
also this comes from a post saying they wish that collecting media like that was still trendy and guess what? it is! if it weren't special editions and box sets wouldn't fuckin exist anymore but they come out with one every day, bro. and if you really wanna see a movie or show that you can only stream but you can't on the platform you have or don't know where to find a place to pirate it; suck it up and wait for the bluray release and then spend your money on that.
honestly sometimes i wonder if y'all actually wanna spend money on the media you consume or if you just want your shit for free. like i cannot stress enough that prices have not changed much if at all for a copy of the thing you wanna watch. it has always been upwards of 20 dollars for a bluray or dvd and slightly more for a combo or version with special features. you want to get away from streaming? there are hundreds of stores and sites online you can make a purchase for a physical copy right now. don't wanna support amazon if you cant get to a store physically? there are other sites you can use. there really fucking are. get off tumblr for ten seconds and you will realize.
#rant#i saw like three posts today#bitch my home contains aproximately thousand dvds and blurays#many of shows and several were purchased recently#because we make an actual point to get the shit we really really like as a physical copy#fye and walmart are not going out of fuckin business yall#just go to the goddamn mall ffs#go into town and to the local big box store#you can get your shit at costco#you can get it at the goddamn dollar tree sometimes#i got the animated harley quinn batman movie from a few yrs ago for a whole buck about a month or two ago
