#i dont wanna go into the fetishizing of mlm and wlw as to the reason why anime watchers mainly ship marxfal and kabxlai

you'd pair marcille with laois? not falin? I'm curious about your reasoning for that (not jugementally!), because I've only ever seen people shipping falin and marcille, and it seems like those two's closeness is pretty central to dungeon meshi -- would you be willing to explain your perspective on that? no obligations to, of course, I'm simply curious because it's an opinion I've not seen before. hope you're doing well!
i get why people ship marcille with falin, especially since a lot of her motivation as the story progresses comes from falin. but at the same time, marcille and laios have more scenes that're definitely implied to be romantic, in my humble opinion — it's not shoved down our throats but it's a smooth thing that happens every now and then.
honestly, [SPOILER] ever since it was revealed that marcille was a researcher when falin was a student, and the canon ages presented in which falin was most likely a teen when they first met completely eradicated whatever ship was forming. [END]
plus, i think what bolstered the marcille x falin train was that one scene in the bathtub. but throughout the manga, we see more of marcille & laios more than anything else.
and i don't wanna compare manga readers vs anime readers but it seems like i have no choice but to do so: it's the dilemma i have with laios x kabru where, yes, people can ship whoever they want to ship but i feel very strongly about how laios and kabru's relationship is just kabru chasing laios in a way, and kabru having a more developed and AMAZING relationship with mithrun. but since kabru is a pretty boy twinky stereotype, and laios is a big guy, people naturally gravitate to it.
then there's falin and marcille, whose ship was even more popularized because of the bathtub scene at the beginning but as everything develops, it's marcille and laios who have more scenes that imply something romantic, especially at the end [SPOILER] where marcille stays with laios and their "monsters" eating each other [END]
i think more japanese fans are into marcille x laios, but western twitter is more into laios x kabru and marcille x falin. but again, this is just my opinion! PLEASE IT'S JUST MY OPINION RAHHHHHH

hello !! ♡ i just wanted to say that i love your art a lot !! i originally fond you when i had kaemaki brainrot 😳 then when i had soniaki brainrot 😳 and then when i had tokomaru brainrot 😳 u get the drift...ur art is just so pretty.!!! (glad someone is feeding us dr wlws) im so happy i made a new blog so i could follow nd support u!! anyways thats all,, sorry for being awkward if i was,, i normally dont do things like these,, but have a nice day!! ^_^
OH MY GOSH THANK YOU SO MUCH????
THIS IS LITERALLY THE SWEETEST MESSAGE I HAVE GOTTEN I AM GONNA CRY???
My blog is basically *drawing of Kaemaki* *Drawing of Soniaki* *drawing of Chiaki* *another drawing of Chiaki* *another drawing of Kaemaki* I AM JUST OBSESSED WITH THESE GIRLS.
Thank u aaa fandom spaces in general really have a lack of wlw content and I am here to help fix that!!! Honestly I didnt even notice the mlm drawings to wlw drawings ratio until after some time? Like I was just drawing wlw bc I am gay and that's what I naturally want to draw most but as I have come to realize that we really. REALLY need more wlw content, I made it my mission babey!!!
You weren't awkward at all aaaa this made me SO happy!! Thank you for supporting me!! Please know that I appreciate you ♥️♥️♥️
(Also I think I should clarify for my followers, when I say there is a lot more mlm content than wlw content, I am not saying there should be less mlm content. Like yes kings!!! You deserve those drawings! It just makes me sad to see that there arent a lot stuff for the wlws and the ones that are there don't get as much attention. The reason for this, obviously, is the fact that mlm is seen as a fetish by a lot of straight women in fandom spaces but I don't wanna go into that lol.)

how do i know im "fetishizing" lgbtq+ characters? idk if i identify as lgbtq+ bc im gray-a.... and most of my otps are mlm (altho i have a few wlw otps too). i dont think im fetishizing them i just think i enjoy their stories? like noah & brian from "I'll give u the sun" and ari& dante, and also andreil... and wesper and etc. i have so many mlm otps that i feel like maybe theres something wrong with me
it’s kind of a hard line to find tbqh. like, the fact is that a) while media is slowly creating more gay couples, it’s most often mlm and not wlw, so finding canon lgbt+ couples you like means you’re much more likely to find mlm couples; and b) there’s so few of them!! it’s so much easier to just like all gay lit because it’s new and something you can relate to. so the fact that you just like loads of gay ships on its own isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
there is a difference between enjoying them and fetishising relationships, though. for instance if you’re only into mlm ships then it can be a bit ehh, like you think gay boys are super cute but not lesbians because ???? whatever reason you can come up with is bad. this post kind of summarises for me what a big issue often is: the stereotyping. in a lot of media, they’ll include gay characters that are every inch the “gay best friend” stereotype (cough gl*e, riverd*le) and it’s quite frankly dehumanising. it leads to people doing this in the real world. the very idea of going up to someone and saying “you’re my new gay best friend!” is just so strange and like… the fact that someone is same gender attracted doesn’t determine any other part of their character, you know? that’s a big part of it in fandoms. so for men, it’s often making them out to be effeminate.
for women, it’s different. quite often it leads to hypersexualisation. (i know this isn’t really what you asked but i figured i’d briefly include it anyway, just for a more complete answer i guess) again, it’s reducing same gender attraction to a character trait, and often something to turn a guy on. which is. not cool. (examples here)
but to answer the question - i think if you enjoy the stories for what they are and don’t enjoy them in a different way you enjoy other ships, then it’s generally alright. it’s stuff like the people who still only focus on ev*k in sk*m and say that the actors must have practised kissing because it looks so real, for example, that’s where you’re crossing a line.
i don’t agree with all of this post necessarily, but there’s a paragraph i wanna pull out:
if a straight boy was constantly seeing “lesbians” everywhere, or talking about how those girls would look so good together, or making up headcanon about you and one of your platonic girlfriends, you would think he was creepy as fuck, sexist, and probably a pervert. Because he isn’t seeing you or other girls as people with real agency, he’s seeing you as an object to project onto. He’s invalidating your personhood and your sexuality and making your actual queer friends feel like their sexuality isn’t a real identity. That is what you’re doing to these boys; straight or gay, real or fictional, you are projecting onto them and invalidating them.
i hope this helps!!

if im a bad taagnus shipper because i get tired of One kid acting like taagnus is inherently abusive and bad accusing me and my friends of being homophobic and fetishistic all while the same kid is stanning lupcretia (which i can definitely argue comes off as fetishistic but you know :) ) then so be it
i literally dont give a shit this discourse is literally the wildest shit and y’all wanna act like its ~legitimate~ just cuz they use big words and language that makes it sound smart but it literally boils down to “dont have fun in fandom you can only ship canon or ship for representation” which is the fucking. worst reason to start discourse ever
if you wanna talk about the downplay of w/w ships in comparison of m/m ships, you can do that without villainizing m/m shippers and calling us homophobic and fetishistic, you can do that without trying to paint a non abusive ship as an abusive one, you can do that without being a literal child about it and ignoring every mlm who doesnt agree with you.
you can have a discussion on the underepresentation of wlw in fandom and w/w ships without it immediately going into “ITS CUZ YALL FETISHIZE GAY MEN” shit cuz thats not it
it’s because the content in question is giving us like spoonfuls of w/w ships (ONE WHICH INVOLVES TWO GIRLS WHO ARE DEAD) it’s because misogyny exists, it’s because women are seen as less interesting and dynamic and in this fucking medium to be quite frank: the women are not as fucking developed as the central male cast and thats a problem with the medium, not the fans who create content for it
step off and if you want to fucking discourse with me, message me because i’m tired of my twitter tl and mentions and my tumblr notes being clogged up with shit

so ive been absolutely terrified to talk about this for a while because i dont want to be attacked, but i wanna be able to get my ideas out here with an explanation so that next time i say what im about to say, i have my reasons to back me up, even if you disagree (which i know like 99% of you do, which is fine!)
ok, well. I dont like yuri on ice. its not that i hate it, but... ok.
this is a dumb reason lol but the word ‘yuri’ is also used as a sub-genre of romance anime shows between two girls. now that yuri on ice is out, the first thing that coems up when you type ‘yuri’ into google is ‘yuri on ice,’ and its the first thing ppl associate the word ‘yuri’ with more often than not, which lowkey erases a term that was frequently used to refer to wlw and replacing it with a popular mlm trope.
thats not that big of a deal to me i guess, so ill move on. ive had so many people tell me that yuri on ice is the best anime they ever watched, and when i ask why, they say, ‘BECAUSE ITS GAY!’ now, dont get me wrong, this is great! im a gay girl, ofc i support this with all my heart! but its pretty obvious to me that the majority of the fanbase only love it so much because theyre blindsided by the queer elements to it. any show that relies pretty heavily on using same sex relationships (especially between males) to get a lot of fans and attention just doesnt sit right with me.
But let me add to that last reason- a lot of those ppl in the fandom who love yuri on ice because its ‘gay?’ are straight. thats right, im lookin at all of you straight people who like yuri on ice because of its same sex representation. i dont even think i have to explain why i think thats a problem because this is tumblr and ive seen many posts explaining why its wrong for straight people to be obsessed with same-sex ships on the level that many people are with those in yuri on ice. coughfetishizationcough.
and this part is probably gonna piss a lot of people off, and no number of ppl who try to argue with me on this is going to change my mind: if yuri on ice was the same exact show- but all the male characters were female- the fan base would be so much smaller. SO. MUCH. SMALLER. why? because the media has a habit of using queer rep between MALES to draw attention. for some odd reason, a bunch of girls (mostly straight) like to fangirl over two men who love each other because ‘its cute’ and all that jazz. no. thats disgusting of them to take the love between two men and objectify it. do u know how many yuri shows/shows with yuri that ive seen that were spectacular and got little to no attention? hell, its not just in anime. lesbian rep dropped dramatically on broadcast television, down 16 percentage points to 17% of all lgbtq characters.
i guess technically i dont dislike yuri on ice. but i hate how and why it got popular. if these were all girls, it wouldnt be as popular, because the percentage of wlw in media is drastically lower than that of mlm, because lots of straight girls enjoy fetishizing mlm which is sick. as a wlw this makes me sad. as someone in the queer community, it makes me sad that men who love men are often objectified.
im not saying all yuri on ice fans are like that. not at all. i just feel as thought they hype for the show was almost only because it was queer, and that fact triumphed over the storyline and all else. im so happy it DID include mlm! i really really am! im just disappointed that thats what its known for, i guess.
none of what im saying probably even makes sense. im hoping at least some of you will read this and kinda get an idea of where im coming from. i dont hate the show, i dont hate all the fans. i just hate objectifying same sex relationships and how that same objectification damages not only the genuine relationships between mlm, but it also lowers the representation of wlw in media.
sorry if this is all unclear. and if you disagree, thats fine. we have our opinions. no need to attack me.
