Charles works for the most brutal band ever and while I do think he has genuine compassion and sympathy, I do not think he has any EMPATHY for anyone he kills or maims. He doesn't even apologize to Edgar, he doesn't do anything to particular evil to him either. He accepts him as a valued member of his work after the fact but he never anything but work appropriate. I think he might even find a bit of joy from being able to just snap his fingers and have someone be taken care of. Like for fucks sakes he smiles when he tells the klokateers that its show time aka to kill the Jomfru brothers.

Sorry but I think he might be a lil bit of sadist, just a wee bit. Under all the finely tuned wraps is a guy who likes pie, he likes rapping and he maybe thinks something like final destination is actually kinda funny.
